I find it a very realistic take on the HiE trope. Thomas is trained for combat, he doesn't just magically know how to fight well. I also like that you've shown that ponies use a binary writing system. Many of the type writers we've seen in the canon show only have the 2 buttons for a pony's 2 forehooves, and not many writers take that into account. I also enjoy the idea that Thomas doesn't become a survival expert even though he is in the Marines. The TARDIS box also shows that Thomas is not the only one who is rooting for himself and that has piqued my interest. I also like the reaction of the ponies to the first encounter. They are not immediately hostile douchebags, since they know that they have not traversed and recorded all of Anima and that leaves room for new appearances of different species. They also have a healthy distrust of someone new and do not immediately befriend them. This all adds up to a good story worth watching.
