Quill Scratch

Dubs Rewatcher once described me as "an intense literary analyst". I describe me as "a room of monkeys with typewriters."

It Is Definitely Too Late to Do a New Year's Blog · 1:07am Jan 8th, 2017

Consider this a sequel to last week's blog. If you haven't read that one, the tl;dr version is this: 2016 sucked, but some good things happened, and I'm going to try and read a lot of books in 2017.

I wanted to follow that blog up, though, because I have one other fimfiction-relevant New Year's Resolution that I wanted to share with you all, because, so far, it's actually going rather well.

Is It Too Late to Do a New Year's Blog? · 10:40am Jan 2nd, 2017

2016 sucked. There really isn't another way to put it. I've watched my country take part in a bitter, divisive referendum with a campaign that resulted in a significant spike in hate crimes, a quite alarming drop in the value of the pound, and something about the European Union. I've watched as the second female Prime Minister of my country rose to power on the basis of everyone else in the race dropping out and she happens to be the one politician I wouldn't want anywhere near 10

Quill Reads: Starlight Glimmer and Sunset Shimmer Are Dead, by Oroboro · 8:08pm Nov 22nd, 2016

So this is a thing, now.

Check out the original fic here. It's pretty great. It's seriously making me want to go and read the Stoppard play, and then write several thousand words about it.

I'm only half-joking.

Anyway, yeah, I read a thing. Should I do more of these?

Last Kisses is Now Missing a Whole Chapter · 11:43am Feb 7th, 2016

I'm sure we've all seen Xaquseg's post on the imgur blacklist, but I just wanted to confirm that, yes, this is why I now appear to have an entirely blank chapter of fanfiction, as well as a missing introduction to another chapter. I'm going to try and find a way around this asap, because one of the chapters I'm intermittently working on is also going to consist entirely of an image, and another is going to need a lot of them.

Quill Reviews: How the Half-Naked Santa Saved Christmas (Dubs Rewatcher) · 10:42pm Jan 7th, 2016

Warning: This is a long review. I know that I write long reviews as a matter of habit, but this one spends six paragraphs talking about the title and cover art for this story. It's long. You might want to go and get a drink before you start reading.

Quill Reviews: Through the looking glass (X3n0heart) · 11:10am Jan 5th, 2016

Yesterday, I tweeted about this weird review thing I'd done, and somehow a few people noticed it. Among them was X3n0heart, who asked if I could take a look at one of their stories. Being a tiny bit afraid of how much I might end up writing about anything longer than, say, 5,000 words, I decided that the best course of action would be to review a one-shot. Hope this helps you, X3n0!

Quill Reviews: Thanatosian Love (Majin Syeekoh) · 2:21pm Jan 4th, 2016

So for those of you who don't know, I like reviewing stuff. I do it a fair bit for the Writeoff Association, where I like to think I have a reputation for going into way too much depth in my reviews and just rambling on for more words than the story I'm reviewing. For a long time, I've been uhming and ahing about writing reviews outside those competitions, not quite sure if it felt quite right to provide the same sort of feedback outside of a workshop-like environment.
