Silver Letter

I am a student of writing and I hope someday to be able to become an actual writer of fiction.

T

The colt, Silver Letter, had only known loneliness in his short life. Everywhere he had gone, friendship had eluded him. Thinking of himself as invisible, the road ahead appeared hopeless and fraught with danger. But things change and soon, life forced him to take another step forward. Friendship was out there. He just had to seize it. When he found a magical device which seemed to fuel his creativity, desires, passions and courage, Silver became a new pony who was ready to take on the world.

It's so simple, isn't it? Owning land is cut and dry because once it's owned, it's always going to be the same, never changing. That's what the Apples may have believed but the day Apple Bloom sees for her own eyes a forgotten truth, it becomes apparent that more ponies might have claims to the land than they do. And owning land becomes the most uncertain thing ever.

(Author's note: This piece was written in a short amount of time. If it helps, look at Chi and Canary as a metaphor for the nature of wanting to own land and the idea that more than one group can claim to own the same territory. The story doesn't focus on them because there's no changing the past, making them important side characters to a greater issue. There's no ongoing villain or anything suspenseful to stop. The story begins and ends with a question like the question of whether the Apples and the Pies share ancestry. It might not come to a conclusion but it's not really meant to. I want people to come up with their own thoughts on how things would turn out for everyone involved. In this case, the two opposing forces are families who have the same kind of history. )

(Author's note 2: This is written for the Poniverse Summerpalooza 3.0 contest. The theme is about family. I choose to expand on one family's personal history. Pixel and Buffy are characters owned by Poniverse but make a cameo for story purposes. )

Change is the only constant in the world. It brought Equestria a world where one princess controls the sun and the moon. Ponies invent things to make life easier. It brings the seasons, growing up and even dying. Nothing stays the same but few can really accept it, and even fewer may do so forever. Can Pixel Wavelength, the pony most accepting of change, do nothing but stand still as the world becomes something unrecognizable? And when that change affects her closest friends and allies, then it becomes all too personal. From a small town foal to a princess, Pixel is helpless to stop it. She just has to live her life the best she can.

((Pixel Wavelength is a character developed by Poniverse and used by permission for their "Mascot Summerpalooza contest"; this story won that contest and my version is part of the Poniverse canon alongside the other well written stories that was entered for other characters. Most of the characters are made up by myself. Final word count: 24332))
