Having more options can actually make things, harder. The one pony that he would actually like to get to know is just out of reach. He doesn't want to lead anypony on. He doesn't want to hurt anyponies feelings. But, why can't he be happy.

Well she has found that and more as the newly crowned Princess Twilight Sparkle decides to take the bat filly under her wing making the filly her own person protégé. Narci still has lots to learn about the Magic of Friendship. But, she will learn that Twilight isn't her only teacher. Several other ponies stumble into her life. Ponies belonging to a secret society of time travelers and world jumpers. What dangers lie ahead for the pink eyed filly.

While looking for herbs in an alien part of the Everfree, Zecora comes upon the home of another pony denizen of the dangerous forest. She discovered a lonely young stallion named Elmwood Birch. She befriends the him and helps him get to know some of the ponies of Ponyville. Along the way he discovers a young mare who also ponders her own existence. Together they must discover what it means to be alive and what secrets lie between the shadow and the soul.

After two years on the run Eris is found by the alicorn Nox. She is adopted by the old stallion and learns what it means to be a sister to Nox's sons Hecteus and Noctus. As they grow up she develops a crush on Noctus but he could never be more than a friend, right? Hecteus is distant and quiet but he does what he can for his little brother and sister. Love, pain, jealousy, and betrayal are never easy things to understand.
