On a warm, rainy afternoon, two young ponies take shelter in a gazebo. One is hoping to find a job at a bakery nearby, and just wants the rain to go away so she can make it to her interview. The other isn't really a pony, and just wants the rain to go away so he isn't caught.

Life tends to work that way, I suppose.

Golden Delicious has always known his friend Starburst as a mare who enjoys pushing herself beyond her limits. For years, she's worked herself to exhaustion on her visits to Sweet Apple Acres, and for years, he's tolerated it with a smile. What used to be incidents that scared him half to death are now a part of his routine: he and Starburst will work, Starburst will faint from exhaustion, he'll carry her back to the farmhouse, he'll tell her the dangers of overexerting herself, and she'll kindly dismiss his advice and just do it all over again. It's a tiring and endless circle, but he's more than happy to go through it again and again, always being there to take care of her when she's "burnt out."

He's just not sure why.

No marriage is without its challenges, especially not that of Spike and Rarity. Despite the fairy tale-like circumstances surrounding their courtship (Beauty and the Beast is a popular reference made at dinner parties), their relationship is far from perfect: indeed, the combination of her overwhelmingly large dress orders and his frequent extended trips across Equestria as Celestia's personal envoy makes it seem as though neither one of them has any time for their significant other. Yet there is one key factor, one constant variable in their lives that will always be there to remind them of how much they love and care for one another, no matter what issues they face.

To his surprise, she agrees to do it. He's certain he's got this one in the bag—after all, how hard can something as boring as harmony be?

Spike and Rarity have been dating for more than two weeks now, and he still hasn't kissed her. Sure, there have been goodnight pecks on the cheeks, but never a kiss. But he's going to fix that tonight, whether the rest of him is ready for it or not. And little does he know that Rarity's anticipating it just as much as he is, if not more. All she wants is that one, perfect moment—the kind that she's read about so many times in her novels—with her drakefriend. That's all, really. And, knowing what a gentledrake he is, she's certain that's exactly what he'll give to her: a perfect, magical first kiss. She knows he wouldn't disappoint her. He never has.

Anthea is blind. Turquoise Blitz is half-dragon, half-pony. Naturally, the two are drawn to each other, though the fact that their mothers are also best friends may have played a helping hoof as well. With most of their lives spent together, either with the rest of their group of friends or on their own, it makes sense that they would fall in love. With Turquoise's quiet personality and Anthea's unfortunate condition, it makes even more sense that nothing would happen for a long time, despite practically everypony in town believing them to already be a couple.

Then, one long time later, the two decided to stay out late and go stargazing.
