Snowdrop was the only mare in Equestria who could make the beautiful, delicate snowflake designs that the Princesses came to love. After her death, there was nothing left to do but wait until another heir came along with the talent, the destiny, to take her place.

Then came along a sweet little filly. All there was left to do was wait and see what her talent would be, and when it would emerge.

Everyone called her 'special.' Everyone called her useless. Everyone called her handicapped. Well, this disabled little filly managed to make a name for herself. She found her very own special talent. Shouldn't everypony be proud of her?

She'll make them proud if it's the last thing she does.

In the past, batponies had been hunted into near extinction. Their brave goddess Luna sent them into hiding before her banishment. There they have stayed, hiding and wasting away, dreading the day they are yet again discovered and forced into extinction.

One young stallion does his best to survive in a clan gripped with fear as he explores his limited world under the cover of darkness.

Snowdrop heard the twinkling in the stars in the dead of night. A sound which none other could hope to comprehend and, in her saddest moment, a single tear froze on her cheek. Down in swirled with the snow until it clicked into her hoof... And she heard it. The faint twinkle of a star.

Snowdrop's time came and went like every other pony in Equestria, but she left behind a gift of unsurpassed beauty: the glorious and intricate snowflake. But she left behind something else as well, the ever gentle and timid Snow Sparkle. Sparkle can't hear the twinkling of the snow or the stars, but she can see more than anypony. She can see how they sparkle.
