Long ago the world was frozen. The sun and moon frozen in place in place in the sky by the sole ruler of Equestria.

Nightmare Moon.

But that was a very long time ago indeed. Civilisations have risen and fallen and risen again. Equestria faded into myth... then into nothing...bathed in the pale moonlight of its eternal moon.

But on this day a lone figure has trudged across the border. Perhaps the long night is coming to its end.

Thankfully its not permanent and while she waits she banters with Death.

He's a pretty chill dude.

(A quick slice of life tale, as it were. is canonical with The Wardens of Order)

on the longest day of the thousandth year, the stars will aid in her escape,

Equestria is a world rich with magic and power, and in such a world who's to say the Alicorn Princesses are not Gods? Controlling the Sun and the Moon, Guardians of Love and Friendship. They are benevolent forces that keep the world safe.

But even the Gods have higher powers that they must answer to. and after millennia the Wardens of Order have returned to Equestria, and after that has happened they have questions for the Princesses.

Power is a dangerous thing. The shadow of Nightmare Moon is long. And power granted can just as easily be taken away.

Immortality. Being able to live forever. But, do people really think about what that might imply?

One day your friends will die.

One day your planet will die.

One day your star will follow.

One day the never-ending force of entropy will destroy the universe.

Twilight's lived to see this.

This is the last story.

But there might just be time for one last adventure.

Author Note. This story was started many years ago. A lot of the older chapters are pretty atrocious by my own admission. I considered going back and editing it to shit but in the end I decided to keep it as it was for archival and posterity.

Cutie Marks have been an integral part of Equestiran life since before time immemorial. What would happen if suddenly they were all swept away one night. For as long as Twilight can remember the Observers have always seen there. Invisible to the rest of the world, she had almost stopped noticing the seemingly benign figures that only seemed interested in watching the world go by.

Now one is after her. She can't run, she can't hide, And even if she told anyone they'd think she's crazy. but she's not crazy...
