Long ago, in the magical land of Equestria, ponies were close-minded and against the other races. Zebras, deer, griffons, mules, all were target for their hatred. And this extended outwards to other ponies too.

One alicorn rose up. With her powerful magic, she brought eternal night, for reasons which have been lost over the course of history. And the sun has never risen since.

One thousand years later, the heir to the changeling throne, Chrysalis, dreams of seeing the sun. She learns of a way to overthrow the cruel Nightmare Moon, but she cannot do it alone.

Meanwhile, a draconequus, freed from his stone bindings, awakens. But the world is not as he remembers it. Seeking to right the wrongs of the world so he can bring chaos and a spark to the lives of the ponies, he also sets out to dethrone the mistress of the night.

And six wayward ponies, from different walks of life, scattered across Equestria. Each with a life, each with problems.

The sun will rise again.

As an ancient dragon prepares to sleep, he embraces memories of time long past, and begins to reminisce on the great lives of his friends and the changes he has seen throughout his life.

Originally written for The Collab Cage's September monthly collab, but I wasn't happy with it, so I never submitted the final version. I've since edited it and decided to post it as a standalone one-shot. In the original collab, authors were simply tasked to write a story involving change.

Rainbow Dash is hit with news that crushes her dreams. She'll never get the chance to be a Wonderbolt.

Upset and shutting herself out from the world, Rainbow considers just hiding away...

Until a butter-yellow ray of hope pierces the darkness.

A Night Fury dragon who believes she is worthless and dangerous, is offered her heart's desire. Seizing the opportunity, she finds herself in the magical land of Equestria. But one cannot flee from one's conscience, and past mistakes weigh heavily.

And it would appear that dragons are no more welcome in Equestria than at home.
