Paul's Thursday Reviews CLXXXIV · 10:27pm Nov 21st, 2019

No reviews next week, folks. I am on a fortuitously timed break.

This past week saw little work done in terms of writing. This was mostly due to me trying to upgrade my computer, a process which took longer than it should have due to me having never tried it before. I actually ended up without my computer for two-and-a-half days because of a wiring error on my part that took that amount of time to figure out. At least I have the experience, so the next time I try it I’ll be more prepared.

Not much time to talk today, folks. I’ve got a 1,000 watt power supply and an RTX 2080 Ti coming in and a cousin visiting to help me understand everything I need to do to make them functional with my computer. Even if the power supply (the most likely candidate) doesn’t make it today, we’re still gonna take a look at my computer’s guts so he can give me a quick lesson in electronic anatomy.

Got a wide quality range this week. I take you now to the reviews!

Concepts and Creations — The Tale of Tom · 4:27pm Nov 10th, 2019

Been a while since I did one of these, so I figured why not?

Yes, I'm serious, I had a story idea with Tom as the main character. But not, it turns out, as we normally think of him.

A Happy Halloween to all my readers! I intend to spend this evening watching horror flicks in the dark. At least one legit horror and at least one dumb one. Not sure what, though. I’ll peruse my rent options.

Not much to say or time to say it today, friends. Let us go straight to the reviews, shall we?

A few days ago, one of my favorite MLP fanartists (is that the right term, fanartist?) posted a picture. And as I took said picture in, I became inspired. Now, I know the drill with momentary inspiration: you get this idea, it seems brilliant, you try to write something for it, and two days later you don’t care anymore, thereby wasting two days of work. So when inspiration strikes me, I don’t jump on it.

Yes, yes, the show’s over. No, I haven’t seen the ending, I’m still rewatching Season 8 at my own comfy pace. No, I don’t care about spoilers. I’ll get to the ending when I’m good and ready, thank you very much. Dunno if I’ll blog about it when I do get to it. It’ll all be old news by that point.

As I write this, I have been awake for 25 straight hours. The last few days have been a little hectic as I run around Hell’s half-acre trying to find the right car to replace the one I’ve lost. I finally found one at a good enough deal to warrant purchase yesterday. But after that and going out to eat with my dad (who was my chauffeur the whole time), I don’t make it back to my apartment until ~10 PM. Naturally, the first thing I do is go to register the car with my apartment complex so the

Although it has been grindingly slow, I am indeed making progress on Book 2 of Bulletproof Heart. Of course, when I say “slow”, I mean in the last 15 months I have produced ~175,000 words for the story. So yeah, if you count 11k-12k words a month slow, then I’m going slow. I do, but I’m the writer. I’m allowed to give myself tough standards.

Well, quite the day of mixed results. On the downside, I was on my way to work at 5:30 this morning when my car… dropped something. I don’t know what, I just know that it made a loud bang, I ran over it with my rear tires, and my engine died instantly. I was able to get it to the shoulder of the (very busy) highway before the power steering died, at least. Whatever I lost, it also caused all the oil to leak out right away.
