BC2019 Top 16 Review: The Railway Ponies: Highball · 1:18am Aug 9th, 2019

This is a review I did for "Luminaries," a now-defunct project I was invited to contribute to: getting a number of reviewers together to each write an in-depth essay on one of their favorite stories, each covering one by a different author. I jumped on The Descendant's The Railway Ponies: Highball as fast as I could, and as far as I know was one of only a few people (along with TheJediMasterEd and I believe Bad Horse, though I'd be happy to be proven wrong about that) to finish one.

From Pratt St. to Pratt St. and Back Again: A Bronycon Report · 11:43pm Aug 6th, 2019

My Bronycon experience this year started out rough: following a weeklong push to get a presentation together for work and consequently not doing much travel prep ahead of time, I was up until after 3AM Tuesday the 30th, with a disappointing amount of time spent on something that ended up never mattering at all—getting together a couple Magic decks that I’d be OK with losing in Baltimore (namely Mono* Black and Goblins for Atlantic 93/94). Then I was up at 6:00 Wednesday, which in

Bronycon 2019 · 12:59pm Jul 31st, 2019

In the airport, will take off in an hour. Looking forward to another con, hope to catch up with people from last time, meet some new ones. And pick up some books. Probably too many books.

Also looking for suggestions of either things to do solo in Baltimore, especially Wednesday and Sunday nights, or info on open-invite/public/whatever con/pony people related events to check out if possible.

Wonderblogging: Professor Marston and the Wonder Women · 5:39am Oct 18th, 2017

A happy confluence of events brought me to catch Professor Marston and the Wonder Women tonight. It’s a biopic concerning the creator of Wonder Woman and the women he loved. If a period piece kinky romance about an MFF triad, psychological theory, and life influencing art sounds like something you’d be into, check it out![1] Granted, I’m biased.

OMPR Guest Post: Couchfire · 5:45am Aug 16th, 2017

Over at Chris's blog, I've got a review up looking at some of the differences between SS&E's "Couchtavia" and Estee's "100% Move = 50% Fire," and why I felt very differently about two stories that have a lot superficially in common.

Why I Hated "A Royal Problem," and What I Wish It Had Done · 8:54pm Jul 8th, 2017

This week, Chris had a blog post detailing his problems with S7E10: Princess Freaky Friday“A Royal Problem.” It’s a good one, and I think very worth checking out. My response, like his, was that I hated the episode more than any other possibly going back as far as Season 3. (S4 for him, actually; I disliked some stuff in S3 more

Wonderblogging: The Movie · 10:51pm Jun 25th, 2017

Wonder Woman is my favorite comic book superhero (and one of my favorite characters overall), and has been for years—though the New 52 era of DC, the only title of hers I didn’t pick up was Superman/Wonder Woman, because I dislike that ship[1]. Right now is a wonderful time to be a Wonder Woman fan, with not only her 75th anniversary just last year (which brought with it several self-contained or limited series specials), not just a merging of the New 52 character and

Egg Yolk Cocktails: Notes from a brief tour · 5:49pm Mar 5th, 2017

I had a fair amount of extra time over the summer, and decided to take on a fun side project. I've loved mixing drinks for years[1], and some of my favorites—from the basic whisky sour through the extraordinarily rich-yet-refreshing Ramos gin fizz or the playfully thematic MacKinnon sour—use egg white as an ingredient, and with one exception, I never really had much to do with the yolks. So I
