> When The Rain Fell > by Alicorn > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Raindrops and Romance > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOOM! Applejack's head shot up when she heard the sudden noise. She looked around, not finding a single pony anywhere. She became suspicious. What in Equestria could have caused that? she thought. She gave the area one last long look before thinking, Must've been my imagination... She continued with her daily chores, bucking apples and such. Everything seemed peaceful. She enjoyed the sun's warmth on her face. Breathing in the early afternoon air, she thought, What a beautiful, calm day. BOOM! "Alright, now I know-" Applejack began, but was cut off by a scream. She turned to the scream. Rainbow Dash flew right toward her. CRASH! Applejack opened her eyes to see a certain rainbow tail in front of her face. "Rainbow Dash, get tha buck off meh!" Applejack said in her annoyed tone. "Heh, nice to see you too." Rainbow said, getting off her. Applejack glared at her friend. "Sorry, AJ. Storm clouds can be hard to control." the pegasus said sheepishly. Applejack rolled her eyes. "Why in Equestria would ya have to handle storm clouds on this nice day?" the cowpony asked. "The Weather Patrol had last minute scheduling and we have to have a thunder storm today." Rainbow replied. "Aw, c'mon! That's tha third time this month!" Applejack pouted. Rainbow shrugged. "Blame the boss, not me." "Well, when does tha storm clear up?" Applejack asked. Rainbow thought for a moment. "Sometime in the late afternoon. Possibly the evening." She spoke, unsure. Or was it night? I really have to pay attention to the weather schedule. the pegasus thought. Applejack sighed. A beautiful day going to waste. "When does it begin?" She asked. Rainbow thought again. "Uh..." Applejack face-hoofed and said, "You don't know, do you?" Rainbow's response was smiling nervously. BOOM! The orange mare jumped, startled. "What tha buck was that?" Applejack asked, shaking a bit. Rainbow rolled her eyes. "Thunder clouds, AJ." She said. "Heh... I knew that." Applejack said, her face growing red of embarrassment. Rainbow shook her head, smiling. "Ah hope tha rain don't come soon, since somepony doesn't know her weather schedule." Applejack mumbled. As if right on cue, a cold sting fell on her nose. Then another, and another. She felt the rain fall onto her body and began shaking. Cold rain. It started out as small drizzles, but quickly turned into a pouring, cold shower. Both of the mares had been too busy talking to notice the rain clouds moving in. "Tha rain! Tha storm is comin'!" Applejack yelled over the roar of the rain. "Obviously! We have to get out of this!" Rainbow yelled back. "Follow meh!" Applejack yelled, running towards the barn. Rainbow ran after her. The wind and rain were so strong, Rainbow couldn't fly after the cowpony. They ran over the fields, seeing lighting strike in the distance. Rainbow eventually caught up with Applejack, running next to each her. Applejack glanced over at her. The rain falling onto her coat looked... attractive. Applejack blushed and shook the thought away. Once they reached the barn, they were out of breath and soaked. Their teeth chattered and their whole bodies shook. Rainbow shook her body around, freeing herself from the cold rain water. Applejack watched her movements. Rainbow looks really... good when she does that. Applejack thought, feeling her face grow hot. Applejack shook her body as well, hoping Rainbow was watching her. "Phew, that was freezing!" Rainbow said, grinning. Applejack stopped shaking and nodded. "Ah hate tha rain! It's too cold and wet!" Applejack said, still shaking a little from the cold. But she could feel her coat drying. Rainbow sat down in front of the barn door. "I like the rain." She said. "Yeah, that's 'cause you're used to it." the cowpony mumbled. Rainbow shook her head, looking at the rain fall. "No, it's not that." the pegasus said. Applejack joined her on the ground. "Then why do ya like tha rain?" She asked, looking Rainbow. "Because, listen to it. It's... calming." Rainbow said, closing her eyes. She was listening to the rain fall. Applejack watched the pegasus. She couldn't help but think how beautiful she looked. Applejack blushed once more, shaking the thought away. She closed her eyes, concentrating on the rain. She could hear the loud tap when the rain hit the barn roof. She could hear the rain gently thump on the ground outside. It was...peaceful. Calming, like Rainbow said. "It... it is calmin'." Applejack said, smiling. She opened her eyes, and looked over at the rainbow pegasus. Her coat looked like it was shining and her smile made Applejack's heart skip a beat. What am I feeling? She thought. Rainbow nodded. "I told you it was calming." She said, opening her eyes. She looked at Applejack, locking eyes with her. Those eyes. Those beautiful purple eyes. Applejack thought, staring into them. Gosh darnit! Why is she so beautiful? she thought, looking at Rainbow Dash. "Uh, Applejack? Why are you staring at me like that?" Rainbow asked, feeling a little uncomfortable. Applejack snapped out of her thoughts, but she was still staring into Rainbow's eyes. "Because, your eyes are beautiful." Applejack said without thinking. The cowpony mentally face-hoofed. Rainbow blushed. "T-thanks..." She stuttered, looking away. Applejack sighed. She'll never love me. she thought. Applejack could tell she was in love with the cyan blue mare, but she wasn't sure if Rainbow would return the feeling. "How did ya know 'bout tha rain being calmin'?" Applejack asked, trying to change the subject. Rainbow smiled. "I was really upset one day, and it began to rain. I just cried on my bed and listened to it. It calmed me." Rainbow explained. "Why, ain't that tha cutest thing!" Applejack said, smiling. Applejack was hoping that would make Rainbow forget about the eye thing, but to Rainbow, it made things awkward. "Uh...if you say so..." Rainbow said, shrugging. Applejack's ears flattened against her head. She looked back at the rain outside. How will I tell her? Applejack thought. She rested her head on hooves, staring at rain clouds. She knew she would have to tell Rainbow eventually, but she was afraid everyone would hate her. But I really want Rainbow to be my very special somepony... she thought. Applejack gathered her courage ad said, "Rainbow, I need to tell ya somethin'." Rainbow looked away from the rain, staring at her friend. "What?" She asked, tilting her head to the side. "Today, how we are here togetha, I can't help but feel... different. I have never gotten this feeling before. I never felt it for anypony. But now..I feel it for you," Applejack said, blushing. "Everyday, you get funnier, nicer, and more beautiful on the outside and the inside. You always make meh smile and happy, even when ah am angry at ya. What I'm sayin' is...ah love ya, Rainbow Dash." Rainbow sat there in silence. She stared at the orange mare, not blinking. "Yeah. Now ya can hate meh." Applejack said, looking down at the ground. She prepared to get yelled at, but instead she felt lips smack onto hers. Rainbow Dash is kissing me!! Applejack thought happily. The cowpony kissed back, slowly wrapping her hooves around the pegasus. Rainbow's lips brought happiness to Applejack. It made everything around her stop, bringing her only focus on the kiss. They could have stayed like that for hours, but they had to separate for air. "I love you too, AJ." Rainbow said. Her face was beet-red. Applejack smiled. They nuzzled each other, feeling their hearts beat against their chests. "You kiss amazingly." Rainbow complemented. Applejack blushed even more. "Same to ya." Applejack replied. "You know what would make the kiss even better?" Rainbow said, grinning. Applejack tilted her head to the side. "What?" She asked. "Kissing in the rain." Rainbow said thoughtfully. Applejack smiled and nodded. The mares got up, walking out in the freezing rain. They once again shared a kiss. Niether Applejack nor Rainbow didn't care about the cold rain around them, because the kiss brought warmth to their hearts.
