> My Little Yoshi > by Blazing_Mane01 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Enter Twilight and CMCs [edited] > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Well, girls," the newly-coronated Alicorn princess Twilight Sparkle invited the Cutie Mark Crusaders into her room with a wave of her hoof, "come on in! You said you wanted me to read to you again? Stories that can only be found in Canterlot Castle?" All of the CMC's jaws were agape, struggling to pop an air bubble keeping them from speaking. The shock of being in Canterlot Castle, let alone in a Royal Chamber, had them thoroughly excited, and the room itself lived up to its reputation: There were silk curtains dyed in deep purple draping neatly from a glass door that led out to a small balcony looking out over the whole city. There were multiple bookshelves stacked upon one another along the very corners of the room, each varying in size, thickness, and quantity of books. Brightly-colored gems hang suspended from the ceiling, reflecting the light off the gold-lined fireplace, filling the room with wavy streaks of colors; as if fireflies were weaving a blanket of light. Finally, Scootaloo swallowed and bounded into the air. "This place is AWESOME!! I'll bet it have some crazy stories!" The young pegasus flapped her wings eagerly. Twilight couldn't help but smile. "Indeed, it does, Scootaloo. Now, everypony settle down," she continued as the three fillies entered her royal room. "I've picked out a 'crazy story' I think you will all love!" Sweetie Belle's ears perked up. "Really!? What is it!?" The purple princess waved her forehoof. "Let's get settled down first, Sweetie, and I'll show you." she promised, watching as each filly pulled an imaginary zipper across their lips and sat back on the floor. She then flared her horn, reaching for the light-green book she had set out. "Now, then..." Twilight said, levitating a light-green book out from a rather empty bookshelf, flipped it over, and read off the summary on the back, "this is a legend dating back to Celestia's and Luna's birth, how dinosaurs named Yos--" "DINOSAURS!?" Twilight's brief explanation was cut off by an exclamation from Apple Bloom. "Sweet! Ah heard rumors about them creatures. Fierce things back in the day, weren't they?" Twilight cleared her throat, mentally excusing the interruption. "Yes, well, nearly all dinosaurs were mean or vicious... Some were even carnivores, meat-eaters." Twilight couldn't help but shudder at the thought of some giant dinosaur, hungry for blood, clamping its massive jaws down unto some helpless soul... Or a pony, for that matter. She decided to quickly dismiss these thoughts with a shake of her head before she started to have nightmares or something. "But apparently, not all dinosaurs were hostile." This opened Apple Bloom's ears. "Really? Nopony I talked to knew of any dinosaurs that weren't either big or nasty. Applejack, Granny Smith, Ms. Cheerilee..." Twilight winked. "Stories only in Canterlot, remember?" "So, dinosaurs HELPED Princess Celestia and Luna!?" Scootaloo suddenly blared. "That is so super AWESOME!!" "Quiet, you two!" Princess Twilight admonished the fillies. "I'm getting there!" All of their smiles went to the brinks of their cheeks, leaving the purple alicorn in a mild state of curiousity as to how they could hold such a painful-looking face. "Now, not all dinosaurs were mean and nasty. In fact, there was this one species of dinosaurs that was actually very friendly! So much so that they could be domesticated, if ponies wanted to!" The CMCs looked up to the ceiling in wonder of how cool having a pet dinosaur would be. Seeing their obvious sensation, Twilight almost had no choice but to follow their lead. Even if she already DID technically have a pet or two - it slightly hurt at her to call Spike that, but at least Owlowliscious was an actual domesticated animal and not a baby dragon she's had all her life - the thought of another 'assistant', despite having royal 'service' as it is, was tempting. Twilight snapped back to reality. She cleared her throat one more time, "But if you don't let me read it, you won't get to learn about it," she shrugged almost sorrowfully, and gave the trio a smug look. And nor will I, actually... Though I'm sure many opportunities would've arised in the future. Sealing their lips for a second time, Scootaloo and Apple Bloom sat back on their haunches and waited patiently - well, almost patiently - for Twilight to continue reading. Smiling, the princess obliged, and brought her book back up so she could continue reading the cover. "As I was saying, this story is about the very early days of Princess Celestia and Luna, when they were still foals. Back then, Discord ruled this country. When Celestia and Luna were coming to Equestria, Discord attacked their transport, and the sisters were separated. Luna was taken by Discord, and Celestia fell into the territory of the peaceful dinosaur tribes, known as Yoshis. "The Yoshis found her -- well, no, actually; Celestia landed on one of them. But anyway, Celestia somehow knew, even at her young age, she needed to reunite with her sister. Since she was so young, the Yoshis decided to escort her to where she wanted to go..." ------------------------------ My Little Yoshi By Blazing_Mane01 > Prologue.) This is a story about Baby Celestia and Yoshi... > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a story about Baby Celestia and Yoshi... A story that took place a long, long time ago. A messenger Griffon hurries through the dusky, pre-dawn sky. In her talons, two baby filly sisters sleep, awaiting their delivery. When suddenly, a shadow races out from the thick clouds and attacks the Griffon with Lightning-fast speed. "THOSE BABIES ARE MINE!!!" Only catching one filly, the shadow disappears into the distance. The messenger Griffin was knocked out, and the other filly sister falls of her talons toward the open sea... It's a lovely day, and Yoshi is out taking a walk. Suddenly, a baby pony falls on his back! Yoshi quickly looks over to the package on his back, and is surprised to see that the baby seems completely unfazed by the fall! Wait... the filly seems to want to go somewhere... What could be nagging at the baby pony? Yoshi decides to take the white filly to his house for now... > Chapter 1-1.) The Meeting > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Even though the baby pony was anxious to go, Yoshi decided it was best to talk with the others first. So, Yoshi held a meeting at his house. Many other Yoshis attended the meeting, ranging colors from the brightest red to the deepest purple. They listened as the green Yoshi - the one who found the filly - told them exactly what happened, and, in turn, work out a plan to get the baby where she wants to go. When the plan was made, Yoshi picked up the baby and set her on his back. Each Yoshi bade the others farewell, promising they'd see each other again in the future. Thus, the adventure of Baby Celestia and the Yoshis began! > CMC reaction to Chapter 1-1 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Twilight put the book down for a quick moment to allow the Cutie mark Crusaders a chance to swallow what she read. In her mind, she didn't want to put the book down - she HATES it when she either loses her place or gets motivated in something else and doesn't return to it - but remembered she wasn't reading out loud for her OWN sake. She looked up from the green book and asked, "Well, girls? What do you think so far?" All of them remained silent. Twilight continued to look at them, hoping one of them would say something, but the silence dragged on. Perhaps they just need a little more time to digest the first chapter? the princess guessed mentally. But this book is written at a low-grade level for much younger readers. They should understand this easily. Or maybe the concept of 'friendly dinosaurs' still has their tongues caught? After a moment, Twilight deemed the silence awkward and broke it herself. "Wow. Is it that good? It seems to be leaving you three speechless!" she suggested, finishing with a smile. Once the purple alicorn finished speaking, Sweetie Belle shook her head and asked, "What's a 'Yoshi?'" Scootaloo nudged Sweetie's shoulder with her forehoof. "Helloooo? Were you not paying attention to the beginning of the story? Obviously the 'Yoshi's' are the friendly dinosaurs!" "Hey!" Sweetie furrowed her brow. "What's wrong with a question?" "It's a silly one!" Scootaloo threw her hooves into the air. "Easy, Scoot..." Twilight waggled her hoof as if to say caught you red-hoofed! "In all fairness, you ARE right, Scootaloo. The Yoshi's were the dinosaurs that took Princess Celestia to reunite with Luna! But just because you're right doesn't mean you get to pick on Sweetie for asking a question," she chided. At that, Scootaloo ducked her head and itched the back of her neck. "Oh... Well, uhh, yea... I guess..." Twilight smiled again and brought the book back up to reading level. But before she continued reading, she looked back to the CMCs. "Are there any other questions?" Apple Bloom's hoof shot up. "Yeah! Was 'Yoshi' the name of the dinosaur race, or was it an individual name? Ah heard it used both ways; Ah just thought Ah'd --" "Make sure?" the alicorn finished for her with an approving grin. "There's no problem with that. And you're also right! 'Yoshi' is both the name of the species, AND the name of the individual that caught Princess Celestia." She finished her explanation with yet another smile, but quickly lost it as she thought of something. "Wait..." She scrolled back through the first chapter. "Well, at least it seems to specify that Yoshi was its name..." Scootaloo sighed in impatience. "Can we PLEASE get on with the book?" Twilight tilted her head in confusion to the pegasus filly. "What's wrong, Scootaloo? Is the story THAT interesting to you?" Scoot didn't catch what she was saying until Twilight caught it first. "No, wait, no! I just... want Apple Bloom to shut up..." That made the newly-awakened princess frown. "Scootaloo! That's not a very nice thing to say!" "But it's true! I can't stand it!" Scootaloo all but whined, putting her hooves up to her ears to emphasize her point. "Oh?" Apple Bloom challenged. " 'N you think YOU'RE so much better, what with all these outbursts against us!? What's got your apple in a lasso, Scooty?" Twilight decided to cut in before this got ugly. "Apple Bloom can ask all the questions she wants. As with you and Sweetie Belle." Scoot looked down to the floor a second time. "Yea, I guess you're right..." Twilight waited for Scootaloo to finish her sentence, but when she didn't, she raised an eyebrow to the orange filly. It wasn't until Scoot looked up and saw her in that pose, did the princess regain her prior posture. It only confused the filly. "What?" she asked in honesty. Twilight furrowed her brow and let her jaw drop just a bit before she let out a frustrated (yet somewhat quiet) groan. I thought you were gonna say 'I'm sorry, Apple Bloom,' a disappointed Twilight thought to herself. Guess THAT was a mistake of me... She cleared her throat. "Now, is everypony ready?" They all shouted "YES!" at the exact same time. After momentarily cringing from the sudden decibel increase, Twilight opened her eyes and said, "Okay... Chapter two..." > Chapter 1-2.) Taking Baby Steps > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yoshi and Baby Celestia were finally on their way. Seemingly content with going to where she wanted, the little filly got less antsy and more cooperative. However, Yoshi was having a difficult time managing her. It was like every time he took a bad step, the baby princess started bellowing! Multiple times already Celestia panicked and fell off Yoshi's back and ran away somewhere, and Yoshi hadn't even cleared his back yard yet! Yoshi sighs and wonders if she will grow more patient over time. Until then, he was handed a big fit whenever he made a mistake. Celestia kept her smile, though. Perhaps she enjoyed giving Yoshi a hard time? Regardless, Yoshi fetched the young pony each time, and shared her smile to win her over, so they could keep moving. If he was lucky, maybe he could finally get out of his back yard... > Chapter 1-3.) The Flower > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yoshi and Baby Celestia were making some progress! Yoshi had walked through several obstacles already, and seemed to have gathered some of the baby's trust. While going up a hill, Celestia saw something. It was a floating flower, with a smiley face as its base. As Celestia looked at the flower, her face beamed with happiness. She reached out to touch the flower. In the process, Yoshi lost his balance, and the baby fell off! Recovering quickly from the stumble, Yoshi looks back and sees his shell saddle vacant of a baby! Frantically, his eyes scan the immediate area; she couldn't have gone far. Yoshi finds her in the air, hovering next to a floating flower! She seemed to be looking deep into the flower's cheery face. The more she stared, the more she felt happy. Eventualy, she burst into laughter, and fell from the air! Reflexively, Yoshi shot out his long tongue to catch the baby. Thank goodness he caught her just in time! > CMC reaction to Chapter 1-3 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- A flower? Twilight thought to herself. Where in the world would we find flowers like that? The Cutie Mark Crusaders didn't have quite the same question on mind, though. Sweetie was the first to talk. "There's such a thing as a happy flower?" Since Twilight didn't have any personal experiences from what she would know she'd remember, she just shrugged. "I guess so. I mean, it doesn't say anything else about the flower other than it has a smiley face. And, apparently, it spreads happiness when ponies look at it..." Apple Bloom bounded. "How cool! A flower that can make you smile when you look at it!" That's what I just said... Princess Sparkle sighed to herself. "Can you imagine how cool it'd be if you could have that for a cutie mark!" Apple Bloom continued. This made Twilight seriously wonder. Now that she mentions it, it might actually BE pretty interesting! But then she took a second look at the picture in the book... Umm... Never mind! she exclaimed to herself. She shut the book for a brief moment so she could force thoughts of having such a... weird-looking flower as a cutie mark. "Hey!" Scootaloo stretched out her forehoof, "That sounds just like Pinkie Pie!" That made Apple Bloom laugh. "No, silly. Pinkie Pie's not a flower! She's a pony!" "You know what I mean, Apple Bloom! Pinkie spreads smiles like that flower does!" "That's actually a very good observation, Scootaloo!" Twilight told the young pegasus. "Congratulations!" Twilight then looked to Sweetie Belle, who had a sly grin on her face. "Since this flower and Pinkie Pie have so much in common..." This can't end well... the purple alicorn bit her lower lip. "...how about we call it..." Sweetie raised her head, as if to prepare for an announcement... "THE PINKIE PIE PETUNIA!!" ... ... Twilight finally facehoofed, as did everypony else besides Sweetie Belle. The princess, however, was the only one to speak afterwards. "Sweetie Belle, you have a very creative imagination, but I think the flower would already have a name." Sweetie dropped her ears. "Aww! Does that mean we can't call the Pinkie Pie Petunia?" She looked up to the lavender pony with a set of rather large eyes. "You can call it whatever you want. I'm just saying that it probably has a specific name already." Twilight recomforted the white filly and lightly scruffed her mane. I should make a mental note to look it up later... "With that being said, can I move on to the next part?" They all nodded at once, and sat back down. "Okay... Chapter 1-4.) The Eggs." > Chapter 1-4.) The Eggs > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Time for a little break, Yoshi decided. He had been traveling with Baby Celestia for a while now. Carefully, Yoshi set the filly on the ground. He then looked for a berry bush, since his tummy was rumbling. Thankfully, there was one next to the stream with a lot of berries! Yoshi licked his lips, mesmerized by his hunger for the fruits. Quickly, he plucked many of them off with his long, sticky tongue. On one occasion, however, a berry didn't taste quite right... But Yoshi swallowed it anyway. And as soon as he did, out popped an egg! Celestia, watching him up to this point, became suddenly overcome with wonder of Yoshi's egg. Yoshi couldn't help but giggle at the adorable sight; the pony baby marveling over his egg. Then, Yoshi continued to pluck berries off the bush. Finally, with his belly satisfied, Yoshi picks up the baby, and sets off down the road again. > CMC reaction to Chapter 1-4 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Eggs?" Scootaloo tilted her head as Twilight Sparkle finished reading. Since this is the first time Twilight has read this story also, she wasn't sure what to make of this odd point. She knew that dinosaurs could lay eggs, though. But there was something nagging at her about how quickly the whole thing with Yoshi occured. Most dinosaurs take a long time to lay eggs, and when they do, there are usually multiples upon multiples of them! Are Yoshis always like this? Are they ALL so different from actual dinosaurs? "Can we see, Twilight?" Sweetie Belle asked. The princess tilted her head. "Hmm?" "The egg! I wanna see what was so adorable about it!" "Oh!" Twilight shrugged. She then took a quick look at the picture herself, since, while reading a novel of any sort, she tends to skip over pictures. Even the EGG doesn't seem very dinosaur-ish, she thought to herself before turning the book over so the Cutie Mark Crusaders could see the egg... "Ooh!" Sweetie's eyes doubled in size. "That IS pretty cute!" "You sure, Sweetie?" Apple Bloom put her hoof on her chin. "Ah mean, Ah'm no expert, but Ah reckon it's jus' a plain ol' egg... Other than the green blotches and all." "...I don't know, Apple Bloom," Twilight chimed in. "There's something bothering me about the whole process..." "What's that, Twiligh?" The princess exhaled. "What was it that triggered the egg?" "Oh, c'mon, Twilight!" Scootaloo threw her forehoof through the air in front of her. "Even I know that the fruit is what did that!" "No, no, no! I mean, is that how Yoshi naturally produces eggs? By eating fruit? And if it's not, then what is it? Speaking of which, what was this 'weird' taste that Yoshi ate anyway...? It doesn't say much about it at all..." Then all the Cutie Mark Crusaders put their hooves on their chins and went "Hmm..." at the exact same time. Deeming the moment awkward, Twilight continued, "I guess we'll have to read on to find out!" Then, simultaneously once again, the three fillies formed smiles on their faces, bounded, and shouted "YAY!!" Recoiling from the outburst, Twilight regained her posture, and brought the book back before herself. I take that as answer enough, she thought briefly, but shook it off. She then cleared her throat once and continued to read the chapter... > Chapter 1-5.) The Piranha > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Baby Celestia and Yoshi have come a long way now! It has been about half an hour since Yoshi left his house, and he's starting to get pretty tired. Yoshi wonders how Celestia has so much energy; she's been doing nothing but messing with his egg! After a couple minutes, Yoshi runs into an angry plant. The red plant seems to be rampaging in place. The way it's chomping at the egg makes Yoshi assume that the plant is hungry. Therefore, he pets Celestia's mane, takes the egg, and offers the egg to the plant. The plant quickly crunched down on Yoshi's egg and began to chew. After a short moment, the plant seemed to explode with happiness! Yoshi smiles to the plant, since it seems to be dancing to itself. Then, he waves bye-bye to it and continues moving over to the checkpoint on his map where another Yoshi will take Celestia. > Chapter 1-6.) The Checkpoint > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- It has been a long time since Yoshi left his house. His breath is gone, and his tired feet cry out for a break. And Baby Celestia isn't making it much better, either. At this point, the only thing keeping Yoshi moving was that the trade-point wasn't too much farther. Once he handed the baby to the next Yoshi, he could get all the rest he wasnted! After a few more minutes of huffing and puffing, Another colorful Yoshi appears in Yoshi's vision. Excitement getting the better of him, Yoshi bursts into a run. He skids to a stop in front of the red Yoshi, and bucks the baby pony into it's arms. The red Yoshi gladly takes the baby from tired green Yoshi. They wave good-bye and part ways. Yoshi watches the other Yoshi walk off into the distance with Baby Celestia until they disappear from his vision. > CMC reaction to Chapter 1 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Once she saw the number 2 on the next page, Twilight Sparkle temporarily shut the book (carefully confirming her magic kept her place for her) for a short moment of reflection. She then looked to the Cutie Mark Crusaders, but their initial expressions caught her off guard; their faces were practically vacant! Getting disgusted, Twilight suddenly barked. "Hey! Don't look at me like that!" In response, Apple Bloom took her gaze off of the purple princess. "Wh-why'd ya shut the book, Twiligh?" She looked as if she were about to start crying. Twilight quickly let out a groan. "I only did that because I thought you would have questions or thoughts! I didn't lose my place, I swear!" "Well," Apple Bloom continued, "ya never seem to have answers, so Ah figured to jus' stop askin' questions." Twilight's jaw fell a bit on that one, but she tried her best to recover: "W-wait a second! J-just because I don't answer ALL your questions, d-doesn't mean I can't try!" Scootaloo raised a hoof in Apple Bloom's support. "She DOES have a point, Twilight..." "Ugh! All right! I'll stop pausing!" Twilight proclaimed, raising her head and forehooves into the air. Everypony fell silent as Twilight brought herself down from her earlier outburst. The Alicorn was pretty upset that they would no longer share their points, but was ultimately satisfied that they would make some headway into the story. She was opening to the second chapter... "Umm... Do you girls mind waiting for a moment before I continue? I, uh, gotta... take care of something!" Without waiting for an answer, Twilight darted back from the Cutie Mark Crusaders, headed for a door on the far side of the room. In her haste, however, she lost the focus of her magic on the book, falling out of her grip in front of the three fillies. At the moment, the CMCs only looked at it as if Twilight had dropped it on accident - which she sort of did - and left it alone, but with Scootaloo seeing as how the book landed face-up and open on chapter two... But Sweetie Belle wasn't concerned about that. "What could Twilight possibly need to take care of... in the bathroom?" The other two fillies facehoofed at the same time, making the other wonder if she just heard its echo in the room. "What!?" Sweetie had such an innocent mind at the moment. "It's not like she has~" "No, never mind, Sweetie!" Scootaloo cut her off before she said something... disgusting. She then gestured over to the open book. "How about we forget about what she's doing and continue the story?" "Without her? But wouldn't she get mad?" Scootaloo flicked away the question. "Mad? Please. I'm sure Twilight's read the same story, like, a hundred times." "Well... I don't know, Scootaloo..." The young pegasus winked to her unicorn friend once, before stepping over to collect the green book. "C'mon, I'm sure it'll be fine..." > I wish I could continue writing, but my bronyism is dying > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- When I first started this story, I wanted to see it through to the finish. I still do. It's just that, with the end of Season Three, my brony passion has been dwindling. This is probably the first time I've even signed on to Fimfiction within a MONTH... I'm sorry guys. Unless Season Four rekindles my brony spirit, I just can't continue working on Fimfiction. It might just be the end of me on Fimfiction. Fair warning, I suppose. Again, I'm sorry.
