The hot sun flooding through the windows, reflecting off the mirrors, glistening into her blue eyes.It seemed such a shame to close the curtains on a day like this, but it was so distracting. "I wish I could be out there with him", she sighed to herself". She knew it wasn't the sun distracting her, it was thinking of him. But how could she think of anything else? Giving up on the dress she was working on, she stood up. "A nice walk should calm my mind", she assured herself, trotting towards the door. Just as she was about to head out, she heard a loud knocking on the back door. "Rarity, Rarity, are you there?" the voice was calling through the key hole. Elation flooded through Rarity's body, He was actually there! She couldn't believe it! "I'm coming, I'm coming!", she replied, rushing towards the back door. Swinging it open delightedly, she looked up to see him standing as tall as ever, greeting her with a smile. Stepping aside, she allowed Shining Armor into her home. "I missed you", he whispered close to her ear. She didn't respond, being near him was enough to make her speechless. "I missed you too", she managed to sputter out, "but what are you doing here?". Letting out a sigh, Shining Armor paced a few steps before answering. "I decided to leave my wife and come live with you", he started. Rarity could have sworn she felt her jaw drop to the floor, "Come live with me!?!", she asked, "here?". "Well where else silly?", he said, walking towards her. "You can't live here", She was stammering now, "think of all the trouble we'll be in, you can't leave your wife". "It's too late, I already have", he answered disappointed, "I thought this was what you wanted, I thought you loved me" Rarity didn't know what to do. How could she? She never expected anything like this. Remaining silent, she stepped away from him. "Aren't you going to say anything", he asked, slowly accepting his disappointment. Rarity could barely look him in the eyes. They'd barely met up, just a few hushed words. She'd never dreamed of anything like this, except she had. She had always wondered what this would be like. Spending her days here, living with Shining Armor, being greeted everyday by his warm smile. It's all she'd been thinking of the whole summer. Then she finally understood. She wanted what she couldn't have. "Shining Armor", she began, "we can't do this". His face sank, she felt like running away but she had to do this. "Don't Rarity", he begged, "please, don't." Looking up at him, Rarity didn't know what to do. She had been leading him on for weeks, fueled by her own insecurities. The thought of someone desiring her was so flattering she hadn't realized the feelings hadn't been as deep as she'd first imagined. "Two seconds!!", she screamed, making him jump, "I'll be right back". Before Shining Armor had a chance to respond, she was gone. Running out of her door as fast as she could, Rarity almost hit straight into Twilight. "Rarity!?", Twilight said, "What's wrong?" "Oh Twilight", she replied, "I've been keeping an awful, awful secret" "It couldn't possibly be that bad", Twilight said, trying to be reassuring. She was worried for her friend, she'd never seen her like this before. "Now what's the problem?", Twilight asked, "I've been seeing someone", Rarity explained. Twilight had never expected anything like this. Seeing someone? Twilight was sure if any of her friends had any kind of relationship they would have told her. "That's great Rarity, who is it?" asked Twilight. "No you don't understand", Rarity spluttered out, "It's Shining Armor" Twilight stopped. She felt her heart in her throat, unable to speak. "Shi..Shi.. Shining Armor?!?!?!", She stuttered, "That is NOT at all possible, he's married!, MARRIED, Rarity!" "That's not the worst", Rarity continued, "He left his wife and he's in my house, I didn't know what to do, so I ran" "Okay", Twilight said, "Okay". She let out a huge sigh, exhaling deeply. "Do you love him?" Rarity stopped. This is the question she had been so scared of. "No, I don't love him", she replied. This came as a huge relief to Twilight. Just as she had come up with an idea, the rest of their friends rounded the corner. Seeing Rarity in such a flustered state, they all came rushing over, "Whats wrong Rarity?", they questioned. Being so ashamed, Rarity couldn't bear to speak again, so Twilight explained the story, leaving the other ponies speechless. "You've got to go back", Twilight told Rarity, "Go back and tell him it can't happen, he's made a mistake" All 6 ponies headed back to Rarity's house. "We'll be right outside", they reassured her. Rarity slowly went back inside her house. "Shining Armor?", She called, but he was nowhere to be seen. She looked all around before going back outside. "He's gone", she told her friends, with a mixture of relief and worry. "GONE?", They couldn't believe it. Had Rarity been lying the whole time? They all went inside to sit down and make sure their friend was okay. Twilight was the last one inside and she shut the door behind her, but a small piece of paper stuck to the back of the door caught her eye. "Hey Rarity?", she called, "Is this yours?". Rarity came into the hallway. "I.. It's not mine, I never saw it before". "But it's addressed to you", Twilight said, handing it to her. Rarity took the piece of paper from her and unfolded it, reading it carefully My dearest Rarity, I'm afraid I made a huge mistake, I must thank you dearly for not allowing me to go through with it. It was in a moment of haze and confusion that I came to you, in hope of comfort. I hope that we can remain friends, you mean a great deal to me. I hope also that I have caused you minimal pain. My deepest apologies, Shining Armor The note was short, but came as a relief to Rarity. The other ponies had gathered around her reading the letter too. "You okay Rarity?", they all asked her. "I've never been better", she replied, hugging the note to her chest. "I think it's best if we don't tell anyone about this though. "Agreed!", her friends said, hugging her. She didn't deserve such loyal, kind and loving friends. She was sure never to get mixed up in anything like this again
