Rarity, still looking as fresh as she's always been, answered. She smiled. "Scootaloo, darling! It's been oh so long. Oh, so long, that you might have got your cutie mark! No, no - You must have gotten it!" cheered Rarity. Scootaloo scratched the back of her head nervously. "Uh, yeah, sure" she lied "So, um, is Sweetie Belle here?" she asked, quickly getting off the topic. "Sweetie Belle! Scootaloo is here to see you!" she called. The same beautiful white-coated, purple and pink maned unicorn she knew trotted down the stairs, carefully attempting not to ruin an elegant dress she had on, presumably one of Rarity's most recent designs. She wrapped her forelegs around Scootaloo's body and spoke up in an elegant voice. "Scootaloo, darling! So glad to see you, come in, come in!" she insisted. The Pegasus nodded and walked in with her friends. "Why, Scootaloo" Sweetie said, sitting down at a table with her friend while waiting for Rarity to bring tea. "It feels like i haven't seen you in..years! Well, after Babs, Apple Bloom and I got our cutie marks, well, we felt there was no purpose to be the Cutie Mark Crusaders anymore, but i am so dreadfully sorry I left you there, darling. I am really, truly sorry" Scootaloo's small wings perched up as she noticed tears welling up in Sweetie's emerald eyes, slowly cascading onto the table. "Honestly, Sweetie. It's perfectly fine!" she said. "I-It is?" Scootaloo nodded as she received another hug. "Oh thank you so much darling!" she flashed a smile "So, getting off of that, lets see your cutie mark! Why, I bet you tried so hard that you got such an extraordinary cutie mark that those ugly mugs Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon were jealous! Ha!" she finished, letting out a rather ladylike 'hmph!' at the end. The Pegasus stared blankly at her flank. "Oh, yeah...really extraordinary" she got out of her seat extremely slowly, her head at level with the ground. Sweetie Belle noticed Scootaloo's still blank flank. "Oh! M-my!" she gasped. She got out of her seat, revealing that she had a bell and a sparkling musical note as her cutie mark. "Dear, dear Scootaloo! I-" "N-no..It's okay, Sweetie Belle. It's my fault for being so useless" she cringed on the last word. Her purple tail covered her blank flank as she opened the door. "Thanks for having me over, Sweet. I'm going to see Apple Bloom now..." she explained, slamming the door behind her. Sweetie Belle stared at the door blankly. "What are we going to do with you, Scootaloo?" Meanwhile, Scootaloo was slowly walking along to her destination, her head level with the ground as she let out a sigh. "God. I'm a stupid blank flank. My friends are so much more superior than me. I'm just a worthless piece of s-" "Scootaloo!" A familiar voice called out. Her head perched up, noticing a red maned earth pony standing in front of her. "Is that really you, Scootaloo? It's been so long!" She smiled excitedly. The pegasus nodded. "Y-yeah! It has. What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be working at Sweet Apple Acres right now?" "I am workin'. I just needed to go to my stall and start sellin' apples" she explained. So Applejack isn't working on the stall anymore... Scootaloo thought to herself. Her eyes then caught her friends' flank. Instead of a regular bare one, it was filled with a design. A red apple with a paintbrush on top, supposedly being painted green. She sighed in disappointment. "Hm? What's wrong Scoots?" Apple Bloom asked. "Ah...it's just..um" "Spit it out!" "I'm still a blank flank!" she squealed. The earth pony smiled sympathetically at her friend. "But there's nothing to be afraid of, Scoots" she reassured. "'It means your special. It means you could be anything. You could be a great doctor. Or a scientist. Maybe even mayor of Ponyville someday. And you have all the time in the world to find your destiny'" she quoted. The memories of Scootaloo's first moments as the Cutie Mark Crusaders washed into her mind. She giggled. "Thanks, Apple Bloom." She turned around "Now i know just who to turn to!" her wings fluttered as she started to trot. "BYE, SCOOTS!" Apple Bloom shouted as she waved goodbye. Scootaloo kept trotting further and further until she reached a familiar cloud house. "Rainbow Dash?" she called. A rainbow maned pegasus' head popped out from over a cloud. The rainbow was now dull, but her face was striving with life. "Squirt? Oh! Scootaloo! What's up?" she asked, leaning casually on the edge of the cloud. "I need your help with something" "This is...?" "Flying" Rainbow Dash descended from the cloud, gently landing on the ground. "You're the best flier i know, Dash. And you're my hero. Could you please teach me to be...less useless?" The cyan pegasus' wings puffed out and began to flutter, whipping up a powerful wind before lifting off. She flew around in circles, immidiately leaving a rainbow around the pegasi. She finished, with her rainbow bursting into sparkles. "I'd love to" she laughed, watching Scootaloo gaze at the sparkles in awe. > The first flight > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pony Wings The First Flight Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and for there you will always long to return - Leonardo Da Vinci Scootaloo waited eagerly for her trainer to arrive. Her heart was thumping out of her chest. She had never been so excited. Maybe for once in her many years, she could finally taste the thrill of flight. She had arrived. The cyan pegasus rushed over to Scootaloo. "Sorry I'm late, sport. I had some business to attend to" "Don't worry, Dash. Better late than never, am I right?" she giggled. Rainbow Dash laughed along. "Okay, kid. First, wing exercises" The pegasus' wings flew open and they started to pound that the wind. Though, she was remaining on the ground. "Copy me, Scoots" The orange pegasus nodded, copying Rainbow's movements. Though, it wasn't as powerful. As far as it looked, she was just fluttering her wings. "Go a little slower, kid." Rainbow set out another demonstration. Scootaloo watched in awe before attempting to copy her again. This time, her small wings whipped up a little bit of wind. Rainbow could feel it pressing against her fur. "Good job" she finished. The twosomes' wings flipped back into place. "Now that you've got the warm up, it's time to get serious" Rainbow Dash picked up her student, flying her to a cliff. Scootaloo stopped at the edge. "D-damn! That's...She gulped "Really far down.." "What? You sound like you're afraid of heights, kid" Rainbow Dash explained. Scootaloo puffed out her chest, making herself look tough. "W-what? No way!". Rainbow Dash laughed and playfully knocked Scootaloo's shoulder. "Okay, squirt. You want to fly? Then you're going to have to make your first step somewhere high. You ready for this?" Scootaloo's mouth flew open. She had only just done warm-up excersizes. She hasn't even lifted herself up off of the ground, and already, Rainbow want's her to jump, or fly in her case, off of a cliff? She gulped again, fluttering her wings. "Okay". She turned to face the edge again, staring at the horizon. Okay, Scootaloo she thought to herself. You WILL fly. You can do this!. The tips of her hooves went over the edge slightly. "If anything happens, flap your wings to get speed, dive, then swoop yourself up at the last minute, 'kay? Remember - speed, dive, swoop" Rainbow winked, slapping Scootaloo's wing. Scootaloo breathed in, then forced herself to do something she never thought she would do. She jumped off the cliff. Rainbow looked over the cliff. "KID! I said to FLY not to DIVE!" she facehoofed. Scootaloo realized her mistake. Speed, dive, swoop the three words echoed in her mind. She nodded to herself. Her wings, instead of fluttering, finally flapped, giving her speed. She then stretched her forelegs out, going into a dive. Finally, before hitting the ground, she swooped skywards. She was either dreaming, or she was REALLY flying. She stopped and looked around. There, she could see Rainbow Dash heading towards her. "Kid!" She shouted, giving her a hug. "You did it! Y-you flew! You really flew!". Scootaloo stared blankly at her mentor for a while, but then her face filled with joy. A smile almost too big for her face appeared. She returned the hug. Now, she wasn't as useless as she thought she was. Now, she finally had something in her. She had courage. She had determination. She knew, with her new ability of flying, that she could finally find her destiny. She could finally find her cutie mark. > My Destiny > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pony Wings My Destiny Destiny is no matter of chance. It is a matter of choice. It is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved. - Willam Jennings Bryan. Scootaloo's eyes shifted open as the light of the morning sun broke through her window. She stared at her ceiling, a hug grin on her face. Still, after accomplishing it yesterday, she couldn't believe that she flew. She shook her head. Well, i can't stay in bed all day, i've got some flying to do! she thought to herself. She kicked her hind legs from under the covers then her wings flapped, lifting her up. She straightened into an 'arrow-like' position and burst through her front door, beginning to soar around Ponyville. "Scootaloo?!" Said three voices simultaneously. She stopped, staring at three familiar ponies. Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle and...Babs Seed! She smiled and descended. Once to the ground, she crossed her legs over, as if to say she was proud of herself. "Wow, Scootaloo! You're finally flyin'!" the Manehatten pony said. She flicked her forelock. "Of course, the next achievement is to get my cutie mark" She explained, unfolding her legs. "Well, that's great! Say, wanna come to Sugarcube Corner with us? Like we used to at old time-" Apple Bloom was cut off by her friends' voice. "Thanks, but no thanks. I'm gonna go check with Rainbow Dash. I might be able to fly with her again, you know, like i've always dreamed?" There was an awkward silence. "Uh, sure, Scootaloo. Check you later?" Sweetie Belle asked. "Sure" Scootaloo finished before bursting off from the ground, launching herself into the sky. The former crusaders kicked their hooves on the ground, supposedly in depression. "I really wished we could go back to old times" Babs sighed. "Well..." Apple Bloom looked up to where her friend left "We can't let ourselves get in the way of a friends' dream. Not even someone as vile as Diamond Tiara would do that". -- Scootaloo knocked on the rainbow-maned pony's cloud house door. "Hey, Rainbow! It's Scootaloo!" She exclaimed. Immediately, there was a reply. The door flung open. "K- No, Scoots! You're here. Wanna do some flying?" Rainbow Dash asked. Scootaloo eagerly nodded her head, doing an airborne backflip in excitement. They set off together, soaring over every other pony in Ponyville. This feels great! The adrenaline rushing through my body, the wind in my mane. I LOVE it! Scootaloo thought, her grin spreading across her face, once again. The cyan pegasus could notice this, speeding herself up. "Race, Scootaloo?" Rainbow taunted. She twirled in the air. Scootaloo did the same, giggling to herself. "You're on!". They landed on a large cloud. This reminded Rainbow Dash as old times, when she had her first race against the bullies to stand up for Fluttershy and defend her honor. But this time, it was different. She was facing off against a student, a friend. What would happen this time? "3..." Scootaloo began to count down. "2..." Rainbow Dash joined in. "1..." They prepared for launch. "GO!" They exclaimed in sync. They both started off great, neck-and-neck. However, due to her begin 'The fastest in Equestria', Rainbow began to take the lead. Soon, Scootaloo was far behind. Scootaloo's wings began to beat against the wind, the air pressing against her fur. She wanted more. Her wings began to smash against the wind faster, making her get closer and closer to her mentor. Rainbow Dash noticed the sudden change in her students' speed, attempting to go faster, but she was already past her limits. Scootaloo was closer than she even imagined now, and Rainbow Dash was starting to lose her rhythm. In excitement, she began doing more flips and twists, while still going at the same speed. This time, Rainbow was the one that gazed in awe. Suddenly, there was a boost in her students' speed. She was going faster than ever! Her tricks were top notch, too. Scootaloo could feel a tingle on her flank. As her eyes shifted themselves, she noticed that it was glowing a pure white. Was this it? Or just a fluke? Was Scootaloo going to get her cutie mark after all these years? She halted, gazing at her glowing flank. It then vanished, sparkles flowing in the air. There, in front of her formerly blank flank...was a cutie mark! It showed two pegasus wings. She stared for a moment. "So...what IS my destiny?" Rainbow Dash flew forward. "To be a fast, daredevil flyer" She grinned, flashing her cutie mark. "Oh well, I-I've finally got my cutie mark!" tears welled up in her eyes as another smile appeared on her face, but it was the biggest smile of all. Scootaloo, we're so proud of you... a voice echoed. It sounded familiar. Her ears dropped. Mom...Dad? she thought to herself. She shook her head in denial. No, it can't be them. I'm just imagining things. Rainbow Dash extended a wing around her friend, pulling her into a hug. "Scootaloo! You're amazing! You should go hang with your friends now. Go flash that flank!" She finished before 'dashing' off. Scootaloo chuckled. "Now, i have some friends to get to" she smiled, heading for Sugarcube Corner. Once at her destination, she burst through the door, eying every table in the room. "We are the Cutie Mark Crusaders~" A familiar voice chimed. "I know that amazing voice!" she followed the sound, leading to a table with her friends. Sweetie Belle stopped singing as everyone gazed at their pegasus friend. "Guess who got her cutie mark?" Scootaloo teased, showing off her newly-decorated flank. The threesome smiled. "You finally got your cutie mark! We're so proud of ya, Scoots!" Apple Bloom cried, congratulating her friend with a tight hug. Everyone else joined in. "We love you, Scootaloo!" they sang. Once again, she laughed. "You know what? I love you guys, too!" The group shared another laugh before settling down on their table and tucking into their milkshakes. Yes, guys...i love you too.
