The two dark figures had just entered the long-forgotten tunnels of the old jail as the storm started to intensify. Their blue and gold uniforms shimmering in the firelight of the torches hung on the wall. They walked so silently as if nopony was there. All there was to hear was the distant patter of rain and occasional crack of thunder. As the two pegasi went on, they could start to make out multiple male voices. As they neared the end of the tunnel unicorn guards (one a small and younger pegasus while the other was a large, muscular and middle-aged unicorn) walked up to them.

“What are you doing here?!” said the younger one.

“Calm down Featherweight.” said the larger stallion. “Go back to the others... I can handle this.”

The small pegasus turned without question and disappeared from sight. The unicorn looked at the bigger of the two pegasi and, after studying her for a couple of seconds, finally spoke.

“Been a long time since I've seen you around this area.”

“Yeah, well, busy schedule, ya' know?”

“Ya........”

There was a long silent pause between the two.

“Is there something I'm missing here?” said the slightly smaller, light purple pegasus breaking the silence.

“Oh... um.... nothing.” said the other pegasus.

They were once again all silent for a moment until the unicorn spoke up.

“I know that you didn't come here to visit old friends... so why are you two here?

“We came to see her.” The light blue one replied.

“Who is her?”

“Don't act stupid with me. HER.”

“Why would you want to see her?”

“Does it really matter why?” said the purple pegasus angrily.

“Yes. Plus, visiting times are over for today ,anyway.” said the gray
unicorn, flexing his muscles to show that he was getting impatient.

“Oh come on, seriously?” The smaller pegasus spat out anxiously.

“Calm down there girly.” Said the other pegasus mockingly. “I can handle this.”

She walked closer to the unicorn giving him a half evil-looking smirk. When she stopped, she leaned closer to one of the torches, exposing about 75% of her body to the firelight.

“You wouldn't want to disappoint the captain of the Wonderbolts now, would you?”

She slowly held up one of her hooves to her chest and pushed aside a red streak of her mane, revealing a shining golden pin in the shape of a thunderbolt with wings. Engraved on the thunderbolt was “CAPTAIN”.

“Oh..... well..... I guess I wouldn't.” Said the unicorn half astonished and half embarrassed. “Go right on ahead.”

The two pegasi walked on with smirks on their faces. When they were about to make a turn, the blue pegasus ran back to the unicorn guard and gave him a tight hug.

“Thank you, Thunderstrike.” She said, and ran back to her friend.

“I'm surprised that you didn't forget my name after being gone for so long.” He said back to her just as she rounded the corner.

“I never will.” Echoed from out of sight.

Thunderstrike stood there blankly for a few moments staring into the blackness and recovering from what had just happened. Then, without feeling any sort of emotion, he turned and went back to join the other guards.

* * * * * * *

The two pegasi kept on. Even though they kept getting questioning glares from the other guards lining the halls, they never met any of their eyes and just kept walking. They had walked almost a mile through the tunnels when they came to four guards standing before a huge, iron gate.

“HALT!” said one of the guards, a black earth pony.

Both of the pegasi looked at each other, trying to figure out what to say.
Finally, the light purple pegasus spoke up.

“Don't worry... Thunderstrike let us in.”

“Sure....” interrupted another guard, a dark green mare.

“What, you don't believe us?” said the blue pegasus.

“Why should I?” answered the mare.

“Oh come on!!!!!!” said the purple pegasus angrily. “This is the second time that we got stopped by someone in these tunnels!!”

“Okay, jeez.” said another guard, an orange-red mare. “FlowerBed, go to Thunderstrike and make sure their entrance is permitted.”

The green mare instantly obeyed and went off running the way the two pegasi came. It felt like forever for the ponies until the mare named FlowerBed came running back.

“Thunderstrike said that it's fine.” she said, after catching her breath.

“Okay then, open the gate.”

One of the other guards, a navy blue unicorn, turned around. His horn suddenly had a white glow around it as the giant gate unlocked itself and opened.

“There you go.” said the unicorn as he turned back around.

The four guards moved aside for the pegasi to pass. They walked past the guards and kept on.

“Wait!” said the green mare, standing back with the other guards. They all turned to her with questioning glances, except for the other mare who was giving her hate-filled glances.

“What is it now?” said the mare harshly.

“Don't you think that someone should go with them?” said FlowerBed, obviously a little hurt by the other mare's harshness.

“Why?” said the other mare, not losing her harsh tone.

“Because, there are five more gates, that means five more times they have to stop like this. Don't you think someone should escort them to tell the gate guards that they are permitted?” said FlowerBed.

“Ugh, sure, why not? Go ahead.”

FlowerBed almost jumped with joy. She walked past the two pegasi with a huge smile.

“Follow me.” she said as she started down the tunnels. The pegasi followed her. When they had walked a little way on, they heard the gates close behind them. It made a shattering noise that seemed louder than when the guards opened the gates.

“So may I ask why you guys are here?” said FlowerBed. “Or is that too personal?”

“No, it's fine.” said the blue pegasus

They could already tell that this guard was a polite and cheerful youngster. She seemed so young that she was probably new. She was also very nice. Nicer than most of the guards, at least.

“We're here to see someone, someone we know.”

“Old friend?”

“Ya, I guess you could call her that.”

“Whats her name?”

Both pegasi looked at each other. They didn't want to seem rude and not tell such a nice pony. After giving each other an approving nod, they turned back to the pony and said together in the same hate-filled voice-

“Gilda”
