> Spread Your Wings > by Closer-To-The-Sun > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Chapter 1: The World Is New > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter 1: The World Is New Dear Shining Armor, It’s me, your sister Twily– well, to be exact, it’s your sister Princess Twilight Sparkle. Goodness, I still find it hard to believe that is my title now. It’s completely stunning to me, that I am now a princess, just as Princess Celestia, Princess Luna, and Cadence. Such formality and such a big deal, is it not? Oh, sorry, getting off track of the original reason why I wanted to write this letter. I’m writing you, Shining Armor, because I have an inquiry to ask both you and the princess. With my new found gifts, becoming royalty, the new status amongst the Canterlot elite, and not to mention my newly formed wings, I don’t know how to deal with these changes. It just seems everything in the world is all new to me now. I’ve already had some experience with my wings, and my awful flying abilities. To say the very least, I’ve had multiple issues with my newly grown wings. Already, I have crash landed into merchant carts throughout Ponyville, ran into a tree and promptly got stuck, and managed to break a number of windows in the library by trying to use magic while flying at the same time. I must say I am lucky that I have my friends like Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash to assist me with my new appendages. My good friend Rainbow Dash found it quite humorous when I would often crash while trying to fly, even during, as she says, “the simplest exercises”. But with her help, I’ve gotten used to the simple mechanics of flight. Hovering is still tricky for me, and I dare not go past a simply, gentle glide right now. Just one trip with Rainbow’s “speed runs” is enough to tell me that I don’t need to go as fast as her. I must admit, it was invigorating, but it was terribly frightening hanging on for dear life onto Rainbow Dash’s tail as she zoomed across the sky. Just recently, I got used flying great heights. I’m well aware that my wings will be more than enough to support myself and the clouds are also there to help me, but it seems I’ve had a fear of heights that has just awoken. It’s not exactly a quality a princess should have. As for my other pegasus friend, Fluttershy, she has shown me the proper care for wings. She noticed that I kept biting at my wings in a vain attempt to clean them from twigs and leaves after one of my crashes into the trees. Fluttershy, bless her soul, was just so kind and took time to clean my wings out of all of the debris that had gotten stuck. The sweet pegasus even came to the library the next day with a basket of wing care products and instructed me in the proper care of wings. She really is one of the kindest souls I have ever encountered. Oh dear, it seems I’m trailing off again. I apologize, Shining Armor. Basically, I’m asking for some help, simple assistance. To be completely honest, I have no idea what it means to be a princess. I’m scared close to death at the thought of me being in such an important role. What am I supposed to do? I’m honored, no doubt about that, to become a new princess amongst the pantheon, but what is my role? For the others, it is quite obvious. For Princess Celestia, she is not only the ruler of all of Equestria (of course, with her sister), but she controls the sun in the sky to give us day. As for her sister, Princess Luna, she controls the moon and the stars in the sky, giving us night to accompany her sister’s gift to all of the land. And as for your wife, Princess Cadenza, she is the princess of love. Along with you, the two of you are the royal couple of love (I know it’s not the official title, but I always called you that even when I was younger and the two of you were still just friends). But for me, I have no idea what I have to offer for anypony. Up until a short time ago, I was just a little bookworm that only cared for studying and being Princess Celestia’s star student. Now that I have become that something far more than just a pupil to Her Highness, I don’t know what I could even stand for. It’s as if I am being told how to fly around Equestria when I have barely learned to fly around Ponyville. Maybe I’m just over thinking this. I know you would say that I’m worrying over nothing. In fact, all of my friends would say that and just try to get me to relax. Last time I stressed over something, I broke into the library in Canterlot in the middle of the night with Spike and Pinkie Pie. Don’t ask, it’s a long story, but I’ll be more than happy to share next time I see you. But until then, please write me back as soon as possible. I don’t want to let the other princesses or anypony else down as a princess! Love your little sibling, Princess Twilight “Twily” Sparkle > Chapter 2: Learn To Fly > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter 2: Learn To Fly Dear Twily, It’s your older brother, Shining Armor. I just got your letter and Cadence and I read through it. We both thought long about your issue and have come up with an answer to help you with your new role as a princess among the ponies: don’t stress over about it. This might surprise you, Twilight, but you’re far smarter than you think. In fact, I know for a fact that is why Princess Celestia entrusted you with Starswirl’s spell. She wouldn’t give you something you couldn’t handle. You even raised Spike into a noble dragon all by yourself. As for what you represent, it should be completely obvious to you. Think about your time in Ponyville. Think of all the adventures you have had, the ponies you have met, and all of the friends you have made. Twilight, you are the element of magic amongst the Elements of Harmony. Amongst the princesses, you are the one that little fillies and colts will be able to look up to. This is because you are just like them. You’ve been in their horseshoes before and know what it’s like to be the pony out looking for friends and wanting to be accepted. It’s a feeling we all have had at one point or another, and it is you that all ponies can look to for guidance and help in the matter. Twilight, you are worrying about nothing. You not only will make a fine princess that the princesses and Equestria will be proud of, but a daughter and a sister your family will always be proud of. You worry over trivial things too often, Twily, so here’s a bit of advice, from one sibling to another: set your problems and worries aside and focus on what matters most, the ones who make your everyday life amazing. For me, that would be Princess Cadence and, of course, you. Whether it be your group of friends, Spike, or even a special somepony that I don’t know about, don’t forget to let them know that you love them and care for them. The smallest thing can mean the most. And then, with the help of your friends, I know you will learn to not only fly, but soar. Just go and spread your wings. Love your B.B.B.F.F., Shining Armor P.S. Cadence is making me write this part here. I will admit that I was crying at your coronation, but can you honestly blame me? You’re growing up to become a princess.
