> Love Pies > by Dawn Honeycrisp > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Part 1 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The bell rang, denoting that school’s over for the day. Fillies and colt ran out from their classrooms to head to their respective homes. Some of them went to the cafeteria to buy some food to fill their tummies before going home. “R-Rainbow, w-wait up!” The little cerulean filly turned around to see her best friend, Fluttershy. She’s a year older than herself, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t be best friends. Even though the both of them are very different in personality. “What’s up, ‘Shy?” Rainbow Dash responded. “I’m just reminding you about our playdate with my animal friends, don’t forget okay? My friends would be really disappointed if you didn’t come.” the pale, light grayish gold filly said. “Pffft, of course I won’t forget! Well, I gotta go now.” Rainbow said as she opened her wings, ready to flap them. “U-um, Rainbow?” Fluttershy whispered as she nudged Rainbow’s wings. Rainbow rolled her eyes, knowing what her friend was asking – to fly her home. “Urgh, okay. Let’s go. You don’t want to get lost now, do you?” In another place... “Mom, can I go out and play?” said a little colt to his beloved mother. His mother was cooking carrot soup for dinner. From the smell of it, it is sure to be delicious! “Of course, Soarin’. Just come home before dinner.” the mother said. He grinned and turned away. Just as the little colt started to skip away, the mother added. “Just make sure you’re with Spitfire.” The little colt stopped and faced his mother. “But moooooooom, Spitfire’s a GIRL! I wanted to play cloudball with my colt friends! Spitfire’s only gonna play tea party and other girly stuffs...” he moaned. “You said that like being a girl is a bad thing.” “But it is! They have cooties!” Soarin’ added. “No they don’t. Who told you that?” his mother asked. “Fire Streak and Lightning Strea-“ Soarin’ was about to finish his sentence when he heard someone calling his name outside. “There they are, bye mom!” he said as he galloped to the door. His mother just sighed and continued to cook dinner. “Hi, Soarin’!” a female voice greeted Soarin’ out of the door. He was a bit startled. “Guys, why did you bring Spitfire along?!” Soarin’ said with displeasure on his face. “Our mom forced us to bring her along. It not like we want to...” Spitfire pouts and stomped a hole in the cloud they were standing. The three colts were a bit shocked by her action. She didn’t get her name without a reason – she’s short tempered. “Okay okay, you can come with us. But DON’T. TOUCH. US. Come on guys!” Lightning Streak warned Spitfire and walked away. Fire Streak and Soarin’ followed him. Spitfire grunts and joins them from behind. Meanwhile... “Urgh, this isn’t what I expected at all!” Rainbow Dash complained. She and Fluttershy were having a tea party with Fluttershy’s critter friends. Although the rabbits and deers are cute, she wanted to do something cooler. “Come on, Rainbow. It’s not that bad, and it’s your turn to pour tea for Angel bunny.” Fluttershy tried to comfort her. Rainbow Dash sighed and poured tea from Fluttershy’s little teapot into Angel’s cup. “Here ya’ go, Angel.” Rainbow said in an uninterested tone. This is forever! I hope something cool happened... Then her wish came true. She saw something white and fluffy falling from a cloud not far from her. Rainbow quickly zoomed to get it. She zoomed past a few young ponies and caught the – what it seems to look like – cloud shaped into a ball. Umpf, this ball of cloud sure is heavy. Why would anypony play with a cloudball anyway? Very uncreative and totally not sporty. I’d rather play tea party with Fluttershy than playing with them. She landed on a cloud and walked towards a cute looking colt. Gosh, he’s kinda cute. “Hey, is this yours?” she asked the colt. “Yeah, thanks for catching it. You’re fast!” the colt praised her. She blushed and hands over the cloudball. “Thanks. I’m Rainbow Dash. The fastest filly in Equestria!” “I’m Soarin’. Wait, you’re the pony who did that Sonic Rainboom, right? You are so awesome!” “I know I am! Hey um, my friend’s waiting down there so, see you later?” “Sure!” Then Rainbow jumped from the cloud and flew towards Fluttershy. “R-Rainbow, where did you go? I was worried. Who’s up there?” the latter asked. “Just some colts and a filly playing cloudball, I think. Very uncreative, pffft.” Rainbow replied. “O-Oh, okay then. Um, it’s getting late, Rainbow...” “Let’s go. I’ll send you home.” Rainbow smiled. “I-It’s okay if you don’t want to, I um..” Fluttershy hesitated. Rainbow wrapped her front hoof around Fluttershy’s neck and added, “Let’s go.” Fluttershy nodded and then the both of them went home. Back to Soarin’... “Mom, I’m home!” Soarin said. He walked straight to the dining room. He craned his neck on the dining table to see what’s for dinner. Awww, no pie like usual? “Welcome home, sweetie. Can you help me put these plates on the table please?” his mom asked. Soarin’ walked towards the kitchen with his head low. When he arrived, his nose smelled something. Soarin’ lifted his head up and saw his mother carrying pie on her back. PIEEEE!!! Soarin’ skipped in excitement. His mother nods, understanding her son’s excitement. Soarin’ skipped happily out of the kitchen before his mom cleared her throat, reminding him about the plates. Soarin’ then walked back into the kitchen to help carry the plates. After arranging the plates on the dining table, Soarin’ went upstairs to call his dad and his little brother, Wave Chill. His brother’s coat and mane are darker than his. But their mane style are almost the same. “Dad, Wave! Dinner’s ready!” Soarin’ called as he walked upstairs. He walked towards his brother’s room which was already open. But he still knocks on the door first before entering. His dad and brother were playing the Pony Station. “We’ll be downstairs in a minute, I need to beat him in Pinkie Jump!” his dad said, giving an excuse. Soarin’ said a simple no before pulling his dad’s tail. Then his dad paused the game and noogied Soarin’. Wave Chill just giggled next to them. “Haha... Come on boys. Let’s get downstairs before your mother gets mad.” his dad said, releasing his head lock on Soarin’. He then went out of the room, followed by Wave and Soarin’. “What’s the pie’s flavor for tonight, hun?” Soarin’s dad asked. “I know, I know! It’s blueberry this time, right mom?” Soarin’ eagerly answered. “No, it’s cherry!” Wave interrupted. “Blueberry!” “Cherry!” “It’s blueberry!” “No, it’s cherry!” “Now now, boys. Both of you are correct. I tried mixing blueberry and cherry! Now sit down and try some!” their mom said. “Don’t forget to brush your teeth after dinner, boys.” their father reminded. “Yes sir!” the colts said together at once as they saluted at their dad. After dinner, the colts went upstairs and brushed their teeth before going to bed. When suddenly, Wave exclaimed. “Mom! Soarin’ tooth is wobbly!” “Really?” their mother said as she flew upstairs to take a look. She entered the bathroom. There, Wave was panicking about his brother’s tooth while Soarin’ was sitting there with his mouth opened. “Don’t worry boys. When a tooth is loose, it means he’s going to have a new one!” “Does it hurt?” Soarin’ asked. “Well, a bit. But don’t worry, it won’t hurt unless you force the tooth to fall out from its place.” their mother said as she walked out of the bathroom. Soarin’ used his tongue to move his tooth side to side. This is kinda funny. Heheh. After brushing their teeth, the colts went to bed. But Soarin’ just can’t forget about that rainbow filly. She’s really really really cute. Her eyes, her colourful mane, and her voice... What am I thinking?! Girls have cooties! Urgh, what is wrong with you, brain? His mind suddenly remembered about the incident... ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ “Soarin’, catch!” Lightning Streak said as he threw a ball of cloud into the air. The ball was kind of heavy for a cloud. Soarin’ quickly caught the ball, nearly hitting the cloud they are standing. Fire Streak cheered. “Try catching this one, Spitfire! Prove that you’re worthy to play with us.” Soarin’ said as he threw the cloud ball. Spitfire muttered something like ‘Oh, you’re on’ and flew to catch the ball. Unfortunately, the ball went too far and fell towards the ground. “Oops. I think I threw it too far. I-I’ll get it.” Soarin’ volunteered himself before anypony blamed him. He was about to fly to catch it when a rainbow coloured trail passed him. Woah, what was that?! The pony landed and walked towards him and asked, “Hey, is this yours?” “Yeah, thanks for catching it. You’re fast!” he praised. The filly handed over the cloudball. “Thanks. I’m Rainbow Dash. The fastest filly in Equestria!” Rainbow Dash? The filly who won the race last week between those mean colts in school? AWESOME! “I’m Soarin’. Hey... You’re the pony who did that Sonic Rainboom, right? You’re so awesome!” “I know I am! Hey um, my friend’s waiting down there so, see you later?” “Sure!” Then Rainbow jumped from the cloud and flew towards the ground. Soarin’ walked back to his friends with the cloudball in his mouth and a happy face on. “Soarin’, is that who I think it is?” Fire Streak asked as he grabbed the cloudball from Soarin’s mouth. “If you thought that was Rainbow Dash, the fastest filly who won last week’s race between the mean colts in school, then you’re right!” “No! Is she your girlfriend?” Lightning Streak interrupted. “What? O-Of course not! I never even knew her?” Soarin’ said with his face as red as a tomato. “Reaaaaaally? Then why are you blushing?” “I’M NOT! Girls have cooties, don’t you remember!” Soarin’ yelled. Hearing what he just said, Soarin’ closed his mouth. From the corner of his eye, he could see Spitfire surrounded by dark aura. “Uh, I mean... Hey, it’s getting late. Why don’t all of us go home? Uhh... Bye!” Soarin’ said, wiping a sweat on his forehead and quickly flew home. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Not long later, Soarin’ was fast asleep. > Part 2 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- It was a fine Saturday morning for a blue filly that we know, Rainbow Dash, to show-off her tricks to her friends, Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie. How did she met Pinkie Pie? Simple. When she first stepped on the ground the other day, and suddenly a pink pony with cotton candy-like mane that appeared out of nowhere tackled her. Back to our story... “And I call this one, the ‘Fantastic Filly Flash’!” Rainbow said as she dived towards the earth. When she was about to hit the ground, she changed her direction quickly into another direction. “Rainbow, Rainbow!! Watch out!” Pinkie warned, but it was too late. She hit an apple tree so hard that the apples fall without even bucking it. Fluttershy and Pinkie rushed towards her. “Ow... Oh no, m-my wings! Are they okay?” the filly asked, worried that she might can’t fly anymore. Not being able to fly for a pegasus - that would be the worst possible thing! Fluttershy shooked her head. Oh no, nonononono, it can’t be... “Um, I think we’d better bring you to the hospital, it looked really serious!” Pinkie said, tilting her head. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ The doctor walked into the room with the x-ray results. “Doc, are my wings ok?” the worried blue filly asked. The doctor corrected his glasses and replied, “Well, only some broken bones. She’ll be fine after a week resting here.” “A WEEK?!” Rainbow shrieked. “And no flying.” “But-!” she tried to reason with him. A week without flying?! That’s not fair! She felt a hoof tapped on her shoulder. “Young mare,” a lady-like voice said. Uh oh. Rainbow turned around to see her mom and dad, looking a bit mad at her. She grinned sheepishly. “Thank you, Fluttershy and... To think about it, you haven’t introduced this pink pony to me yet, who is she?” “Oooh, HI Dashie’s mom and Dashie’s dad! I’m Pinkie Pie! I LOOOOOOVE parties!” Pinkie said with a big grin, shaking both of Rainbow’s parents’ hooves. “Glad meeting you,” Rainbow’s dad just smiled. “Fluttershy, would you care telling us what happened?” her mom asked. “Well, um... She was showing us some-” “At first, Rainbow asked us if we want to see some of her cool NEW flying tricks! And then we said, well, at least I did, we would LOVE to see them because Rainbow Dash is so cool, and her stunts SO gonna be cool too! So then, we went to a really really REALLY big field! It was THIS big!” Pinkie interrupted, telling the story enthusiastically. “And then... Rainbow crashed into a tree during one of her stunts.” Fluttershy continued. “Rainbow, I thought I told you, no stunts before finishing your homework!” Dash’s mom scolded. Rainbow Dash slid into her bed sheet to hide from her mom’s deathly stare. Then Dash’s dad noogied her. “Dad! I thought we agreed to not touch my hair...” Rainbow grumbled as she grooms her messy mane. “Fine, fine. Glad you’re safe, kid.” her dad gave a caring smile. The doctor cleared his throat. “Well, we’d better be going. You heard what the doctor said, no flying.” her mom said before trotting out of the room. Her dad just smiled, then followed her wife out of the room. Pinkie Pie followed them. “Well uhm, b-bye Rainbow. Take care,” Fluttershy said, before following Pinkie Pie. Then the doctor went out as well. Rainbow sighed on her bed. --------------------------------------------------------------- The sun was raised from behind the hills, as the moon made way for the sun to shine as it sets, and another beautiful day was born. But another boring day for Rainbow Dash. The nurse knocked on the door before entering with breakfast. “Miss Rainbow Dash, breakfast. I’ll be back in 30 minutes.” the nurse said with a sweet smile as she gave Rainbow her food tray. But the smile didn’t affect the blue filly’s day. She sat up and stared at her food tray before looking the nurse walking out. She sighed. “At least it’s pineapple flavour,” she said as she ate her breakfast. As she ate her breakfast, she looked out of the window, pigeons and crows flying about, mail ponies, weather ponies, Ponyville’s residents with their daily lives and etc. Then she looked at her roommate, a young aquamarine-coloured unicorn - estimated to be at her age, who broke her hind legs because of a certain accident that involved an attempt on walking on only her two hind legs - reading a book about something called “Anthropology”. (She was in this room a week before Rainbow’s accident.) “Um, hi! What are you reading?” she whispered. The unicorn didn’t answer, as she kept on reading. Rainbow tried to call her again. “H-hey, green unicorn! Hey! Are you listening? I want to know what you’re reading!” she asked again but with a bit louder tone. The unicorn was a bit startled and started to look around the whole room, making Rainbow a bit guilty, disturbing her reading. But she just can’t help it. “Me?” the unicorn asked Rainbow back once she was sure that Rainbow was the one who called her just now. “Yes! The book you’re reading, what is it about?” “Oh! Let me tell you something...” the unicorn somehow felt happy and started to tell Rainbow Dash everything about these so-called bipedal creatures - humans. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ “And on that day forth, I believe that humans exist. Maybe they’re in another dimension? Who knows, right? Maybe... Just maybe, they even like ponies, like us!” “You’re weird... But I like your spirit!” Dash said as she hugged her new unicorn friend, Lyra Heartstrings’ shoulder. The unicorn hugged her sholder back. “Hey, you like flying right? Have you ever heard of a flying team called, the ‘Wonderbolts’? They’re famous you know.” “Never. Are they awesome? Are they super fast?” the blue pegasus said with a skeptical look. “Duh, of course they are! I can’t believe you never heard of them! Hey, I got two Wonderbolts tickets for their performance this Sunday - Bonbon doesn’t really like pegasus ponies, so of course she won’t come - wanna come with me?” “Sure! I’ll have to tell my mom though.” Rainbow said she she looks down. Rainbow noticed that Lyra’s cutiemark was a lyre. “So, your talent is strumming the lyre? Can you play songs for me?” Lyra looked down, her tail covering her rump. “Y-yeah... It’s not that special though, ponies nowadays don’t usually play the lyre anymore, they play the piano, cello, trombone, and other fancy instruments. I do know some songs, but my lyre’s at home.” “Aw, I always wanted to hear how a lyre sounds like. Not my luck maybe. Hey, you’re gonna eat your porridge?” “Oh? No, I don’t like pineapple. You can have some if you want. I ate my apple already.” she said, giving her bowl of porridge to Rainbow. “Great! I’m starving, thanks!” she said as she ate the porridge greedily. > Part 3 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Soar, wake up! It’s already 5.30!” Soarin’s father said, waking the little colt up. “What’s with 5.30?...” he asked sleepily as he raised his head to look at his father. “Soarin’, you said you want me to teach you some flying tricks, remember?” “Oh... Oh! Oh yeah!!” Soarin’ cried and jumped out of bed and ran downstairs. His dad just shooked his head and followed. ~~~ “Hmmm......” “HMMM....” “URGH, I’m so bored!” Rainbow Dash cried. Lyra shushed. “We’re in a hospital, remember? Keep it down a bit if you want to complain so much. Someone is trying to read here.” “Urgh...” Rainbow Dash moaned. Lyra sighed and levitated something from under her pillow. “Here.” Lyra levitated a book with an autographed photograph on top of it on Rainbow’s bed. Huh? “The Biography of Each of The Wonderbolts? And who is this?” The latter asked. Lyra beamed and replied, “I’m glad you asked! That’s Firefly! I got it when I went to my first Wonderbolts performance. I’d like you to have it. Firefly’s the best, although she wasn’t the Captain, she was still the best.” “Ohmygoshohmygosh! You’re giving me these? I would never give these babies away if I were you! Thanks!!” the blue filly hugged the book and the photograph. Lyra giggled. “Oh hey, the performance is this Sunday right?” she asked. Lyra nodded and gave a simple ‘yep!’. “Yes!! I guess I’m getting a bit excited about the Wonderbolts! Heheh. Thanks anyway!” “No problem! Besides, I guess you’ll enjoy them more than I do!” ~~~ “OH COME ON!” Soarin’ cried and his smile went upside down. It was raining in Ponyville’s park, where he and his father are going to practice flying tricks. “It’s okay, son. We can do it tomorrow. The weather ponies were just doing their job.” his father put a hoof on his shoulder. “Oh alright.. If you say so... But you’re gonna have to buy me apple pie!” “Not if I win!” his dad said as he zoomed ahead of him. “That’s not fair! You started first!” he replied as he tried to catch up with his father. ~~~ Late at night, Rainbow Dash suddenly woke up. She had plans this night. She checked if her roommate is still sleeping. Yep, she’s asleep alright. She slowly crept out of bed with her Wonderbolts’ biography book in her mouth. Sorry Lyra. I just can’t stand doing nothing in bed all day anymore. Rainbow Dash went to the sliding door near the balcony and opened the curtains slowly. Then she carefully opened the door, trying not to make a sound. Then she crept outside. This is it. I’m outta here. But then, she saw a figure flying in the sky. Huh? What is this idiot doing? Then, the silver moonlight shone on the figure. It was a Wonderbolt. And by the looks of it, the figure looks like a stallion. Whoa. His flying tricks were so stunning, Rainbow Dash decided to postpone her plans and watched the late night performance. She hugged her book. I am SO gonna be a Wonderbolt when I grow up. ~~~ In the morning, Lyra freaked out when Rainbow Dash isn’t in her bed. “What’s wrong? Did anything happened?” a nurse came rushing into the room. “M-my friend... She’s gone!” Lyra cried as she showed the nurse Rainbow’s empty bed. “Are you sure that she’s gone and not in the bathroom?” “I’m sure! Absolutely sure! She always sings in the bathroom so I know if she’s in there or not!” “Well then. Wait, what’s that outside?” the nurse said said she approached the sliding door. She opened the curtains and saw somepony on the balcony. “Miss Rainbow Dash? What are you doing sleeping here?!” Rainbow Dash quickly woke up. “Who- what- where??” “You! What exactly are you doing in the balcony?” “Uh... Sleeping?” Rainbow Dash grinned sheepishly. OhCelestiapleasedon’tsuspectthatItriedtorunawayandaccidentallysleptpleaseplease- The nurse saw Rainbow’s The Biography of Each of The Wonderbolts book and ahh-ed. “You must be here to see Shooting Star’s Saturday night practices! Oh, he’s very charming, I’d say, but please don’t sleep in the balcony! At least bring a pillow or a blanket or you’ll get a cold! Now let’s get inside and drink some hot chocolate.” the nurse said, escorting Rainbow Dash inside. “Shooting Who now?” Rainbow Dash whispered at Lyra. “Shooting Star! He’s one of the Wonderbolts who usually does his practice at night. His awesome flying tricks are sometimes mistaken for shooting stars. Hence the name, Shooting Star. There’s a biography of him in that book. ” she whispered back. Rainbow ohh-ed. Phew, I don’t know who Shooting Star is, but I’m glad the nurse didn’t suspected anything else. “Oh, and please get ready, Rainbow. Today we’re gonna go watch the Wonderbotls performance, remember?” Lyra reminded. “Okay!” ~~~ “I can’t believe the doctor actually let us go to watch the performance! Maybe he had a pretty nice day, perhaps?” Lyra suggested. Rainbow Dash combed her hair neatly. Cool ponies need to look neat as well. “Maybe he got a box of chocolates from his special somepony! Can you imagine his face?” Rainbow Dash snirked. Lyra giggled. Lyra put on her saddle bag and her put in her two tickets. “Ready to go?” “Pfft, I’m always ready! Let’s go!” Rainbow Dash ran out of the room. ~~~ “Tickets please.” the ticketmaster said. Lyra levitated her tickets and proudly shows them. He lets the fillies in. The two giggled and walked into the stadium. “Ladies and gentlecolts! Today, we are going to present to you - The Wonderbolts!” the host said as the audience cheered. Just in time! Yes! The two young mares got to their seats in the first row. “Eeee, this is gonna be the best performance ever!!” Rainbow Dash squealed. “I bet it totally will!” someone said. Wait... I know that voice... Rainbow Dash turned around and saw... “Soarin’?! What are you doing here?” “Well, heh... Dad said that there was a Wonderbolts performance in Ponyville, and I can never miss ‘em! They’re my idols! So I’m just by myself.” “They’re my idols too! Well, recently. But hey! It’s awesome meeting you here!” “I know!” “Rainbow, come on, it’s starting!” Lyra interrupted their talk just in time for the show. “Oh hey! It’s starting!” Rainbow repeated. ~~~ “Did you see how they swooped down and- and, they zoomed and-?!” Rainbow said esctastically. No doubt her ambition being a Wonderbolt is fixed. “I did! It was totally awesome! And- and, when they- pchoooo!!” Soarin’ replied and flung his hooves in the air. “Ohmygosh, this is THE best performanc- Ow!” Rainbow jumped and hovered for a second before realising her wings haven’t recovered fully yet. “Rainbow Dash, you alright?” Lyra asked as she quickly goes to her friend. “You think? Ow... I guess I’ll have to get back to the hospital. See you later, Soarin’. Lyra!! Carefullll!!” Rainbow Dash bid goodbye before heading back to the hospital with Lyra. Soarin’ replied ‘goodbye’ and noticed her bandaged wing. Poor Rainbow. I wonder why is her wing bandaged? It sucks when you’re a pegasus and can’t fly. I guess I should visit her sometimes. Oh well.
