> Why so Shy? > by littlelionbigheart > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Prologue: Just a Filly > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Hey Fluttershy! Pass the ball over here!" It was Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy's best friend. They were playing a game of cloud soccer. "No, pass it over here!" That, was Lightning Dust. Her other friend. Fluttershy looked at both fillies, and quickly decided. She slammed her back hooves into the cloud ball, and it split in two. It went towards Rainbow and Lightning. The two fillies started seeing who could bounce the ball the longest. "Sorry guys, but I gotta go, my mom will probably be waiting for me. Bye!" Fluttershy flew off, heading for home. Her friends waved goodbye behind her, then returned to their game. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fluttershy walked into her cloud home. She had a great day with Rainbow Dash and Lightning Dust. Her mother, Willow's Wisp, greeted her at the door. "There's my favourite little filly!" She leaned down and kissed Fluttershy on the cheek. "Mom, I'm not a little kid anymore!" Fluttershy laughed. "I know sweetheart. Come on, dinner is ready. Remember, be careful around your father, he was out drinking today." Fluttershy nodded in response. Her father, Sky Chaos, had been a drunk for years and years. He was always drunk, and always angry. Sometimes Fluttershy wondered if he cared about his family's health. He had beaten Willow once. Fluttershy had witnessed the whole thing. She walked inside and saw her father at the dinner table. "Hi dad." Fluttershy mumbled. "Speak up! Stupid filly..." Fluttershy quickly walked to her spot at the table. Her dad seemed angrier and more frustrated than he had been before. "Fluttershy, come see me in the garage after dinner, I need to show you something." Fluttershy just nodded. She wondered what he could want, but she didn't really care. The rest of the time they say in silence. Fluttershy's father was finished first, and immediately went to the garage. He usually finished last. Fluttershy was done before Willow and went out to the garage. Her father sat there but got up when he saw her. "So, what did you want?" She said in a anxious tone. "I want to show you... why you shouldn't anger your father." "W-what?" She stumbled backwards, and her father moved towards her. Fluttershy bumped into a pile of beer bottles. Suddenly, her father raised a hoof to her face and hit her. The impact was very hard. He hit her 5 more times, then she fell to the ground, a black eye and a slow trickle of blood dripping down her face. She prayed to herself that she would be okay. She heard him say "Worthless filly..." And then, she passed out. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Fluttershy opened her one good eye. It was night time. The cloud columns cast long shadows over her frail body. She didn't have the courage or the strength to get up. Rainbow walked by. Fluttershy knew she should say something, but what could she say? Her throat was dry and her neck hurt. "Help..." It wasn't very loud, but Rainbow heard it. It just started to rain, and she flew inside. "Flutters, what happened?" She hugged her friend. Although the pain seemed to singe her skin, she loved the warmth of Rainbow, and didn't want this moment to end. "Dad..." It was all she could say before she passed out again. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Fluttershy woke up. She was in a completely parallel environment. This was Rainbow's Home. She could tell because she had been there so many times. She, was currently in the guest room. She pulled the white and black checker blanket off of her. She looked around the room and saw lots of her things. Why were they there? She certainly could't remember ever leaving anything here the last time she had been here. "Rainbow, breakfast is ready!" From down the hall, Fluttershy heard the steady flapping of tired wings. She peeked out the doorway and saw a sleepy Rainbow Dash. Rainbow looked up at Fluttershy and gasped. "Flutters! Your okay!" Rainbow sped up, and tackle hugged Fluttershy. Even though she thought her body was on fire because of the pain, she still embraced the fact that Rainbow was so happy to see her. "I thought you would never wake up!" "Rainbow Dash, come down here, your breakfast is getting cold!" "Okay mom! Anyway, come downstairs whenever you want." With that, Rainbow flew down the stairs, and headed towards the kitchen. Fluttershy peeked into Rainbow's room. It looked like it always had been. She went back to the guest room. She was more awake now, and could at least see clearly. She looked beside her bags and noticed green, brown, blue and white paint. Then she looked at the walls. Nothing too special. Finally, she decided to go downstairs. On the table was a lovely plate of pancakes. She wasn't very hungry right now, so she left them there. She went into the Rec Room, which to her surprise, was very big. She had never been in there before, and was never, ever, told what was. It was like a huge training course. Was that how Rainbow got so fast? "So, do you love it? Or do you love it?" Fluttershy gasped in surprise but calmed down when she noticed it was Rainbow. "Chill out Flutters, it's just me! So, how did you like your pancakes? Great huh?" Fluttershy looked at the ground. Not responding. "Well?" "They were.... um.... good." "Thought you'd say that! So, I bet you're wondering why you are here, huh?" Fluttershy nodded. She had been in the garage, at her own house, so how did she get here? Sure, it was possible for Rainbow to have brought her here, but what are the odds? Rainbow squealed with delight. "You, are going to live here!" Fluttershy's jaw almost dropped to the ground. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Well? What do you think?" Rainbow watched Fluttershy intently. "Rainbow.... I can't" Fluttershy had whispered it so quietly, Rainbow almost didn't hear her. "What do you mean? You're not saying that you're going to go back there are you? Your dad will kill you!" Rainbow looked like she was on the verge of tears. The last thing she wanted was her best friend to die. Fluttershy just stared at the ground. "Rainbow... I need to say goodbye to my mother if, if I'm going to live here." "Do you want me to go with you-" Fluttershy looked at Rainbow with horror in her eyes. "No! You... You can't. I really need to go now." She ran off crying. Rainbow heard the door open and close with a slam. Rainbow went to her own room and cried. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fluttershy ran to her house and went inside she screamed in terror at what she saw. Blood was spattered on the walls, fur covered the ground. She followed a trail of blood to the bathroom and screamed again. Her mother was limp, her head lay in the sink. Her face was covered with shards of glass and blood. The mirror was broken. Fluttershy started crying even more. Her father was a monster. "What are you doing here?" Fluttershy turned around in horror. Sky Chaos, her drunken father stood there. "Stop your crying! She was ugly anyways!" Fluttershy dashed between his legs and through the house. She heard his howl of rage behind her. She also heard him knocking into furniture and old glass items as he tried to catchup to her. She quickly grabbed her little music box and ran out the door. She flew as fast as she could to Rainbow's house. Rainbow stood outside. It stared to rain. "Fluttershy?!" Fluttershy landed, crying. Her wings felt like they would fall off. Rainbow ran up to her and hugged her. Rainbow whispered to her. "You went back didn't you?" Fluttershy nodded. They both stood there crying in the rain. > Chapter 1: And So It Began > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I made my way to Fluttershy's house on the edge of the Everfree forest. I had... A few questions I needed to ask her. She was never actually shy to tell you the truth. And that's what I've come to ask her. What really happened that rainy day that I don't know about? I knocked on the door, and Fluttershy immediately opened the door, as if she had nothing better to do. "H-hi Rainbow... Please, come in." The Pink maned pony beckoned me inside. "So, as you already know, I am here to ask you a few questions. You are alright with that right?" Fluttershy nodded her head slowly, her mane falling over her eyes in that cute way that she does it. I will have to admit, she is kind of cute. I never really noticed that slight twinkle in her eyes until now. I shook my head, sending the thoughts to the back of my mind. "Okay, have a seat please." We both sat down in unison. I flipped open my notebook and grabbed a pencil. "Okay, so. The first thing I need to know, what were your parent's name's?" "Willow's Wisp and Sky Chaos..." I gasped. Sky Chaos had been sentenced for 20 years in Pegalcatraz for murdering his wife, and for foal abuse. This interview went off with quite a bang. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I asked her quite a few more questions, involving her mother and father. My final question for the day, was what I felt was an important one. I needed to know why she seemed so keen on going back home, when I had seen her face, a black eye, and a slow trickle of blood running from her mouth down her neck. "Last question Fluttershy, then I'm done. For today that is. I will come back in about a week. Anyway, I want to know. Why did you go back to your house, to your murderous father, when you could have lived a happy life with me and my parents?" The response I got, wasn't what I was hoping for. "I don't know... Are we done now? I think we're done now, so if you could just leave please..." I got up. If Fluttershy wouldn't tell me her secret, then I would have to find it out myself. "Thank you, for answering all those questions. Again, I will be back. So don't think that I won't find out the answer to that question." I opened the door, and walked out into the pouring rain. Who knows what the next ponies I am interviewing will tell me. That is, if they have anything to tell. If I was going to reach them, I would have to fly to Cloudsdale. The next two ponies I would be interviewing, were Cloudchaser, and Flitter, me and Fluttershy's friends. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I had decided to stay in my cloud home for a few days, to try and figure out what questions I could ask them. They are a little bit older than me, and when they were fillies, they knew Fluttershy's "older" brother. He died for some mysterious reason. That's what I want to ask them. They probably knew why he died. I approached the door to their home, and when I knocked, I was greeted by silence. No one came, the lights were off too. I knocked again, were they just asleep? From behind be, I heard laughing and talking. I turned to see Cloudchaser and Flitter flying towards me. "Hey Rainbow, sorry we weren't here. We know you wanted an interview, but we had a radical party to go to last night, and that's why we were late today." Flitter nodded in agreement to what Cloudchaser said. "Okay, well, can we go inside? It's kind of chilly out here." "Oh, yeah, right." Flitter unlocked the door and went inside. I followed Flitter and Cloudchaser followed me. This interview, would be interesting. Not as interesting as Fluttershy's though, but it will be interesting.
