> The Years Of After Unity > by Violet Runner > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Chapter 1: Lunas' Arrival > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Space, a lone shuttle moved towards the earth with the moon behind it. “This is the shuttle Titus, on final approach to earth.” The Captain said into the radio. “Shuttle Titus we have you on our radar now and have confirmed your landing clearance, you may begin your re-entry.” A man on the other end said. “Roger that.” A flight attendant walked down the aisles of the shuttle towards its only passenger who was looking out the window. “Excuse me, but we’ll be beginning re-entry soon, is there anything you wish to drink before we close the bar?” The stewardess asked. “No thank you. I’m alright.” The passenger said looking at the stewardess and giving her a smile. “Of course… my lady.” The stewardess said as she bowed and walked away. “The Earth is such a beautiful place, not unlike Equestria. But it’s also so very different, why can’t my sister see that.” She thought to herself as she looked back out the window at the earth. Flames began to form beneath the shuttle as it began its re-entry into the atmosphere. The shuttle touched down and made its way down the runway. A bridge was attached to the side of the shuttle before the doors opened and the passenger walked out and down the long hallway. “Princess Luna!” A voice called from in front of her. She looked up to see a man in his early 30s walking up to her. “Governor Obama, It’s good to see you again.” Luna said as he started to walk beside her. “It’s Minister now, and it’s good to see you as well.” The Minister of North America said politely correcting her. “Oh, congratulations on your election, Minister Obama.” She said with a smile. “Thank you, your highness. It’s an honor to sever you just like my great-grandfather, Barack, did back when you and your sister first came to earth.” He said as they walked through the airport. “That’s right, he was one of the first to accept our rule and was the first to sign ‘The Declaration of Unity’, and helped bring earth into an era of peace. Of course now it seems that, that era was short lived.” The Lunar Princess said sadly. “Now I wouldn’t say that. Sure there is some tension between the two factions but we aren’t officially at war.” Minister Obama said trying to cheer her up. It seemed to work because she put on a smile before answering. “True. So,” She said changing the subject. “How is your great-grandfather?” “He’s doing fine. He’s currently living in a retirement home in one of Equestrian Colonies.” He said happily. “That’s good to hear. Well it was nice seeing you again.” She said as they walked out of the airport and saw her privet limo waiting for her. “And you.” The minister said as the midnight blue Alicorn stepped into her limo. The Chauffeur closed the door before getting back in the driver’s seat and driving away. A huge crowd, made up of both humans and ponies, stood in front of the Whitehouse as President Barack Obama stood in between Celestia and Luna. T.V. crews and reporters from around the world listened patiently as the President began his speech. “A wise man once said; “To lose an enemy is to gain a friend.” So, on behalf of the citizens of the United States of America, let me be the first to officially welcome you, Princess Celestia of the Day and Princess Luna of the Night, to earth and to thank both of you for your help in eliminating Discord, who was not just our enemy nor yours but an enemy to the freedom of every sentient being; be it Human, Pony or otherwise. I would also like to thank you on behalf of the world’s nations for using your magic to safely dispose of all the nuclear weapons in the world as well as the materials to make them. Thus allowing us to finally fulfill the S.T.A.R.T. 1. Treaty.” Barack said taking a pause before continuing. “Now without further ado, it gives me great pleasure of having the honor of be the first to sign ‘The Declaration of Unity’ and usher in a new era of peace and prosperity to the nations of the world. Thus giving this day; July 4th, a new meaning for not just America, but for every nation on earth and in Equestria.” Everyone cheered as the president dipped his quill in ink and singed his name on the bottom of the document before handing it over to the two celestial princesses who did the same. “Now, before we wrap this up, I believe both princess Celestia and Luna would like to say a few words.” He said steeping down from the podium. The crowd cheered as Celestia stood at the podium. “Thank you.” Celestia said as the cheering died down. “Now, I know a lot of you are worried about how this change of power will affect you, but worry not for even though my sister and I will have direct control and final say over any issues that may arise, we grant you the right to elect your own Minister who will act as your representative. We know that you have recently re-elected Barack Obama as you leader, so to make things easier on you, we shall appoint him to the position of the first Minister of America.” She said as the crowd cheered and Luna took the podium. “Citizens of America and the other nations of earth, we are happy to see how willingly you are in accepting our rule. It warms our heart dearly to see counties, that up until recently, wouldn’t even think of communicating with one another, now have open/free trade between them and are also coming together in peace as part of the new world nation.” Luna said as the crowd cheered once more as Barack took to the podium again. “Thank you, Celestia and Luna. I accept this new passion as Minister of America with great honor and humility. Now unless our fair princesses have anything else to add,” Barack said looking at the two royal Alicorns who shook their heads. “That now concludes this assembly, I hope for the signatures of the other world leaders to join mine on ‘The Declaration of Unity’.” He said before walking off the stage with the two Alicorns as the Secret Serves with the help of the Royal Guards held the press back and escorted Celestia and Luna back to their royal carriage and Barack back into the Whitehouse. “Tia, I thought we agreed that we would let them elect their first Minister instead of just automatically appointing Barack. I mean what if others wished to join the campaign.” Luna said as the carriage began to pull away. “Relax Luna; I just wanted to make it a little easier for them to accept our rule by putting somepony they already trust as a leader into power. They would not have elected him as their president more than once if they didn’t trust him right?” Celestia asked in a calm tone. “I guess, but I just wish you had ran it by me before just making that decision.” The midnight blue Alicorn said looking out the window as they passed the sights of Washington D.C. > Chapter 2: The Senates Decision > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Lunar Legion, formerly the U.N. building, now serves as the North American headquarters of The New Lunar Republic. Here the Ministers, Governors and other Representatives of continents and countries a part of The New Lunar Republic, such as the Minister of Europe; Martin Novak of the former Czech Republic who convinced Switzerland to give up its neutrality and join the NLR, and the Representative of both the Equestrian and Earth Colonies; Heero Yuy of former Japan who won the independence for the Colonies from Earth, discuss and debate key issues concerning the Republic. The flags of the countries a part of The New Lunar Republic waved in the wind alongside the flag of The New Lunar Republic, as well as the Equestrian flag and the flags of the two Colonies, as Luna’s privet limo pulled up to the steps of The Lunar Legion. She stepped out of her limo and proceeded to walk into the building where a meeting of the leaders of The New Lunar Republic has already started. “It is clear that The Solar Empire is preparing for war. We can’t just sit here and do nothing.” A tall man in his early 30’s said standing up. “What about the citizens of both the Equestrian and Earth Colonies, Minister Novak? Have you even thought about how this might affect them?” A man in his late 20’s argued. “We are all aware of the Colonies wishes to remain neutral, Representative Yuy. But we can’t ignore the fact that the Solarists are arming themselves.” A woman in her late 30’s said from beside Novak. “But what about the Colonies?” Representative Yuy argued again. “I think we’ve heard enough out of you, Representative Yuy.” Minister Novak said angrily. “What about me? Don’t I get a say in all this?” Luna said stepping up to the podium. “Princess Luna! O-of course.” He said sitting down. “Now, though I doubt my sister would want to risk destroying the peace that has stood for almost two centuries, not to mention for the first time in earths recorded history, both sides raise good points. If my sister and The Solar Empire are arming themselves for war, we can’t just sit by and do nothing. We must however, respect the Colonies wishes to remain neutral. I know my sister feels the same way. Furthermore, we must think about how this will affect them even if they don’t get involved. I’m sure many of you have family members living in either of the Colonies.” The midnight blue Alicorn said addressing everyone in the room. “If it comes to war than communication between the Earth and Equestria will be cut off and that would mean big losses for both us and The Solar Empire.” “But if the Solarists-” Minister Novak began but was interrupted when Luna raised her hoof. “If they do attack then we will have no choice to defend ourselves, we will not be the ones responsible for starting a war. Also, in the event that it comes to war, we will take measures to assure the effects on the Colonies are minimal. Does this decision please everyone?” Luna asked the assembled Ministers, Governors and Representatives. After a brief moment of silence everyone in the room started to slowly clap their hands in approval of Luna’s decision. “In that case, if there are no objections then I officially call this meeting closed.” She said as she stepped down from the podium. “Princess Luna!” A voice called from behind her as she walked along one of the halls of the Lunar Legion. “Representative Heero Yuy.” Luna said happily as she turned around to see him walking towards her. “How was your trip to the Lunar Facilities?” He asked once he had caught up to her. “It was nice. The moon here is a lot better than the one back in Equestria. So how have things been with you?” She asked as they walked down the hall. “Good, in fact my marefriend, Agile Charge and I recently got married and we are planning on adopting a little filly.” Heero said proudly. “How lovely, congratulations.” Luna said as they turned a corner. “So how are things in the Colonies?” “Not good I’m afraid. The Solar Empire has increased the taxation on their energy shipments ever since we expressed our wishes to remain neutral. Not to mention that the economy has started to go down since we gained our independence.” “I’m sorry to hear that.” She said sadly. “Speaking of the Solar Empire, as the Colonies Representative you speak for them in the Solar Empire as well, correct?” “Yes your highness. And I’m afraid that, due to my position, I’m not at liberty to discuss anything that happens in the imperial senate that is not all ready public knowledge just as I can’t discuss what happens here with them.” Heero said. “Of course. How is my sister anyway?” Luna asked changing the topic a bit. “She seems to be doing fine. She doesn’t speak about you that much unless she’s talking about the Republic though.” He said a bit saddened. “*Sigh* It has been almost 200 earth years since we last spoke face to face. Though most wouldn’t think of it by looking at her, she has been known to hold a grudge against those she feels have wronged her. And we didn’t exactly leave on good terms last time we spoke.” “Do you really think it will come to war?” The Representative asked. There was a short pause as Luna collected her thoughts before she answered. "I pray that it doesn’t come to it but my sister isn’t one to just ignore something that she thinks may pose a threat to herself or to those she rules over.” Luna said finally. Heero just nodded his head as they exited the Lunar Legion, and were bombarded by a crowd of reporters asking what they have decided to do about the Solar Empire. Luna looked around at the large crowd before clearing her throat and giving a quick speech. “The Senate has all agreed that we will only go to war if we are attacked by the Solarists first, we will not be the ones to end the peace that has stood for nearly two centuries. Furthermore If it does come to war then we will do our best to keep the Colonies out of it.” With that Luna walked down the steps into her privet limo ignoring the questions from the reporters that followed her before driving off. “The Senate has all agreed that we will only go to war if we are attacked by the Solarists first, we will not be the ones to end the peace that has stood for nearly two centuries.” Luna said on a TV screen. “Earlier today the leader of the New Lunar Republic, Princess Luna, announced the Lunar Senates decision to not go to war unless attacked first.” The news correspondent said. “It is still unclear at this time what the princess intends to do if they are attacked but-” The reporter was cut off by the TV being turned off. “Humph, not going to attack unless attacked first, eh.” A white Alicorn said staring at the blank TV screen. “Fine Luna, if it’s a war you want it’s a war you’ll get.” She said walking out onto her balcony to see hundreds of troops standing in rows listening to their drill sergeants as six blue fighter jets flew overhead. “Squadrons!” They all snapped to attention. “Move out!” “Ave Celestia! Gloria Imperii!” They all shouted before moving out. > Chapter 3: The Declaration Of War. > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Lake Victoria Base, in former Tanzania, is situated at one of the many the borders between New Lunar Republic controlled Africa and Solar Empire controlled Africa. Though small in size the base has great strategic value as it controls the fresh water supply for most of Africa. “You can take a break now if you want.” A Gryphon soldier said getting the attention of a Human one. “I hear they're serving chilli in the cantina if you’re hungry.” “Huh? Oh thanks.” He said turning to face him. “Hey, are you alright?” The Gryphon asked a little worried. “Y-yeah, just a little nervous is all. We got a report in this morning that some Solarists troops have started to mobilize in our direction.” The Human soldier said. “Don’t worry this is a small base. There is little to no chance they’ll come out here. Cigarette?” The Gryphon soldier said offering him one and taking one for himself. “Thanks,” The Human said taking the cigarette, sitting down and lighting it. “And I know that but I can’t help but fear for my family. They live in the next town over; I transferred here last month so I could be closer to them.” He explained as the Gryphon sat next to him and he took a photo out of his pocket and showed it to him. “This is my wife; Zuri,” He said pointing to a Zebra standing next to him in the photo. “Our daughter; Yejide,” Pointing to a Zebra filly standing in front of him. “And our son; Ryan.” He said pointing to a human boy on Zuri’s back. “Nice family.” The Gryphon said looking at the picture. “Ya, they are." The Human solider said putting it away. "I hope to have a family like that some day." The Gryphon solider said with a sigh. "I’m Trent Clark by the way.” Trent said extending his hand. “Gerardo Lanzo.” He said shaking Trent’s hand. “Anyway I’m going to get some lunch. It was nice talking to you.” Trent said standing up and putting out the butt of his cigarette. “Same.” Gerardo said also standing up to take his post. (Music Starts) “This is Bomber 1 to base. We are nearing the drop zone, over.” The pilot of a stealth bomber said as it flew in formation with 3 other bombers. “Roger that Bomber 1. F-16 and ground troops will move in once you make the drop.” The Base commander said to the pilot. “Roger that, commencing radio silence.” The pilot said as he shut off the radio and sped up. (Music Ends) The sounds of something moving through the air started fill air around the base, as Trent came back from lunch. “What the hell is that? WAH!” Trent screams as a bomb exploded a few feet from him knocking him out. (Music Starts) “What hell was that?” The Base commander, a Minotaur, asked angrily as the room shook. “Sir, we’re under attack!” A random Solider replied. “Blast!” He shouted slamming his fist on a nearby desk. “You, get a message out to the other bases.” He said pointing to the, communications officer. “You, round up as many troops we can spare and help evacuate the nearby towns.” He said to a Zebra soldier. “Everyone else, get to your battle stations. Defend the base at all costs.” “Yes Sir!” Everyone in the room shouted before doing as instructed, as another bomb went off. “Get up man. Come on get up.” Gerardo said rubbing Trent’s shoulder trying to get him to walk up. “Come on, you can’t die here, you have wife and kids, you have to stay alive for them.” “Freeze!” A Human Solider in a gold and red Uniform said pointing a gun at him. “Oh Hell No!” He said before shooting the Solarist solider in the head. “Hugh, what happened, what’s going on?” Trent asked holding his head and sitting up. “Good you’re alright. Come on we’re under attack!” The Gryphon explained. “What!” He said standing up only to stumble. “Hey easy now, you’ve sprained your ankle in that explosion.” Gerardo said helping to support him. “Look out!” Trent said firing his gun that was strapped to his side and hitting a Solarist coming at them. “Come on, we got to get you out of here.” He said as they walked through the battle field. “Sir!” The Communications officer called. “What is it?” The base commander asked as the base shock again. “Sir, I’ve gotten through to the other base in the area. They say they can’t provide help but they’ve sent a message to the princess and can help evacuate civilians and provide cover for our escape.” The Officer said. “We will not-“ The commander started but was interrupted when a huge explosion cased most of the lights and some electronics to die. “Give the evacuation order, the base is lost.” (End Music) Most of the base goes up in flames as the remaining Lunar Solders evacuate to the southwest, except for two; one human solider and one Gryphon solider, who flee to the northeast. “Princess Luna!” A Pegasus messenger yelled running into her office. “What is it?” She asked looking up. “We just got this report from the Lake Victoria Base in Africa.” The messenger said stopping in front of her desk. “I’m afraid that, well…” He said handing her the report. There was a short pause as Luna looked over the report before she put it down and sighed. “*Sigh* It looks like we have no choice. Call the senate.” Luna said as she turned around and looked out the window. "So, It's finally come to this." she thought as a flock of doves flew past the window. “Today at 3:15pm, East Africa Time, the Military Base at Lake Victoria, Africa, was attacked and captured.” Luna said to the press. “It is thus the senate’s decision that, *sigh* we have no choice but to declare war on the Solar Empire." Cameras flashed and reporters tried to question her farther as she walked down from the podium and went back into the Lunar Legion to further discuss their next course of action. > Chapter 4 (last chapter): Asassins and Heeros > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- When Celestia and Luna first came to Earth to track down Discord they opened a rift in space which opened on the frozen continent of Antarctica. After his defeat and before Celestia and Luna where given full control of the Earth many citizens of Equestria wished to establish colonies in the new world. For some it was to be closer to the princesses, others for scientific research. But for most it was to begin a new life with a clean slate. The leaders of the world all agreed that they could colonize Antarctica because it was the only totally neutral place on earth and that was where the portal to and from Equestria was, in exchange for the right to colonize Equestria. Using Enchantments similar to the one used on the Crystal Empire, Equestrian Colonies were set up on the Frozen continent and Human Colonies were set up in Equestria. In the Year AU 187 both Colonies were granted independence from their mother worlds by their representative; Heero Yuy. “Are you sure you have to leave so soon?” Luna asked as she sat with Representative Yuy in a privet lounge in the airport. “I’m afraid so. With the war on, the colonies are going to need a strong leader to get them through this tough time.” Heero Yuy said a bit sad. “I’m sorry it’s come to this. I just don’t know what’s gotten into my sister.” She said hanging her head a little. “It’s all right; if I can convince Equestria’s Princess; Twilight Sparkle, to send humanitarian aid we should be able hold out.” He said as a waiter brought them some drinks. “She still has strong ties with Celestia, but she also has never been one to just sit by well others suffer when she has the power to help them.” The Alicorn said thinking about her sister’s old student. There was a short silence as they drank their drinks. The silence was then broken by a woman on a loud speaker calling out flights. “Now Boarding New Lunar Air Lines, Flight Number 1487 to the Colonies. New Lunar Air Lines, Flight Number 1487 to the Colonies now boarding.” The women on the loud speaker called. “That’s my flight.” Heero said getting up and picking up his bag. “Good luck with the Colonies.” Luna said also getting up. “And you with the war.” He said before shacking her hoof and walking to his terminal. A few hours later his plane touched down in one of the Equestrian Colonies and made Its way down the run way. As Heero walked out of the plane he was instantly bombarded with questions from both human and pony reporters wanting to know what was going on with the war. “What’s the status with NLR?” Some reporters asked. “How will this war affect us?” Asked others. “The NLR Is doing what it can. As long as we remain neutral the war shouldn’t affect us beyond less trade and little communication between the two factions. Also as the war progresses we may see an influx of refugees from both sides. Now I will answer any other questions you may have at the press conference tomorrow in Colony 34c.” He said as he made his way to a Limousine that was waiting for him with his wife. “Just one more question.” A human reporter said getting extremely close to him. “Who do you think will win the war?” “I honestly hope for a draw where both sides agree to stop fighting one another and come to a peaceful solution.” Hero said trying to get away from the reporter. “Gloria Solis.” The reporter shouted before pulling out a gun and shooting him in the cheat. “AHHHHHHHHH!” Heero’s wife, Agile Charge screamed as she ran up to him as he fell to the ground and the assassin ran away being chased by some of the authorities. “Heero! Heero! Say with me. SOMEONE CALL AN AMBULANCE!” She yelled holding her husband and crying. “Agile, *Cough* know that I love you, and my only regret is not being able to see our new daughter. Love her and tell her though I never got to see her I loved her to.” With that he breathed his last breath and died in his wife’s hooves just as the medical team arrived. “Princess Luna?” A black Earth pony asked getting her attention. “We just got world that Representative Heero Yuy was assassinated last night shortly after he arrived in the colonies.” “I see.” She said sadly putting down the papers she was looking at. “That’s not all,” The black stallion continued. “The Solar Empire has announced that they will be seizing control of the colonies here on earth in order to retain justice and peace with in the colonies.” “Is that all?” Luna asked poker faced. “Yes, your highness.” The black Earth Pony said before leaving. Once the pony left the room Luna stood up and walked out onto her balcony and looked up into the morning skies as three, dark blue and black F-22 Raptors flew overhead. “*Sigh* So much for allowing the Colonies to remain neutral. Alright Tia if that’s how you want to play it, so be it.” She said before walking back into her office and signing an order for the creation for a new type of war machine.
