Of Death and Despair-The Night Before
Dark shadows cast themselves unto the floor, writhing almost as if the shadows themselves were in agony. Screams pierced the air, causing worry among the Royal Guard. This was the second time this had happened, the first, Celestia's death, was earlier that day just as the sun was slowly sinking and now, at midnight, it seemed to be Luna's time. The guard's usually calm faces had terror etched into them, and some were crying in horror an despair. They winced as the cries finally died out and then headed into the room to preserve the body before being buried.
The very Next Day
Twilight stood over their deep graves, tears running down her face. With her magic, she levitated a soft moon flower and a glistening sun rose to lay by them before the dark coffins were shut tight. The other representatives of the Elements of Harmony stood by, all of them crying and with looks of shock upon their faces. After all, the princesses had been in perfect health before their deaths and nopony knew how they died, not even the Royal Guard. It was lucky that Celestia had a great student who would be well able to take over her work as Princess of Equestria. When Twilight had first been told of the incident, she was also told by saying "Umbra" she would grow wings and be able to take over as Princess, which is why she is now an alicorn. Her wings faded from purple to black at the tips much like Princess MI Amore Cadenza's and held the same shape as Luna's once had.
Twilight was still getting over the tragic deaths when one of the guards told her that she was needed at the Canterlot castle already. She followed them to the castle but couldn't help but feel it still belonged to the princesses. Her new wings twitched nervously as she entered the Throne Room and was lead to the golden throne where Celestia once sat. She felt bad as she sat on the throne, one part of her brain(on the left side) thinking Celestia was still alive and was going to scold her for this. Twilight leaned over to one of the guards and whispered,"So I just listen to the ponies complaints and give them advice?"
"Precisely." One of the guards replied gruffly before nodding to the others to open the doors.
All sorts of colorful ponies flooded in, overwhelming Twilight. She cleared her throat as Celestia did, a few tears streaking down her face as she did so, and watched them turn towards her in surprise. "Get, uh, in a straight line please..." She mumbled loudly.
The ponies stood there for a few moments before messily organizing themselves. She looked to the first pony, a cream colored unicorn mare with silver hair, shiny green-blue eyes, and a purple barrette for a cutie mark.
"How may I, um, a-assist you?" Princess Twilight stuttered.
"Why do you have to be the new princess? Why can't it be somepony else?" The mare cried in anger.
"Yeah! What makes you so special?!"
"Why couldn't it be a talented unicorn, like Trixie Trixie Trixie Trixie Trixie Lulamoon?!"
"Well? Got something to say for yourself?! Hmmm?"
Others shouted their agreement and soon the organization was lost and chaos took it's place. Ponies were screaming, struggling against the guards to reach her, and yelling threats. One pony, a brown stallion with yellow hair, nearly got through her lines of defense but a powerful burst of her magic kept him at bay. Twilight could feel her patience starting to slip but she got a grip on herself and didn't disintegrate them all. Twilight tried to calm them down several times over the next five minutes but failed.
Finally she screeched," ENOUGH! I AM THE NEW PRINCESS BECAUSE I WAS CELESTIA'S PERSONAL STUDENT! NOW PLEASE, calm down!"

The room fell silent as the realization of what had just been said dawned upon them and they attempted a smile, embarrassed. A few of them left quietly while the others mumbled apologies. When the apologies were all accepted and she reassured them they left and she rubbed her head in pain from what she had just witnessed. How could she possibly go on like this?her head throbbed and she asked one of her guards, named Silver Sword, if she could be shown to her room. It ripped her apart on the inside as she entered Celestia's old room, yet flopped down on the bed out of pure exhaustion. How had the princesses handled it?

A few hours later she awoke and stared sadly at the ceiling, elegantly carved with the sun that appeared almost actually shiny looking. Twilight stood, noticing how she was a few feet taller than she used to be and walked over to examine Celestia's bookshelf. it was full of books on magic and history as well as, surprisingly, a lot of books like Daring Do and the Sapphire Statue. But what really attracted her attention was an old book with Celestia written on it. She stared at it for a moment before opening to the first page. There, in all it's perfection was her beautiful hornwriting and the date of year 500! in something lighter than ink. She heard hoofsteps from across the hall and was hurriedly putting away the diary? when she saw another book, looking similar to Celestia's with Luna written on the side. The hornwriting on the inside was different from Celestia's, in fact it was long and spidery. Shoving the books back on the shelf telekineticly and turned to await the oncoming pony. As the hoofsteps drew closer, she decided she would check them out some time when she could later tonight...
