Wake up John
View point: third person, Cortana

Darkness... That's all there was around her, darkness. Cortana sat atop a pedestal just sitting there, trying to keep her sanity. How could she? Cortana had sat there for more than 4 years doing nothing. She managed to occupy her boredom for a short time by upgrading her Companions armor. Her companion was none other than Spartan-117. Upgrading his firmware took no more than 1 year, 5 months, 6 days and 7 seconds. She may have started to go rampant but she was still very accurate. Suddenly she was taken from her thoughts as rumbles ran throughout the ship. She looked up and started to smile

"An excuse I finally have an excuse!" A voice said maniacally in the back of her mind. Cortana did her best to ignore the voice which would soon be the one of many and focused on the situation. She slowly stood up and pulled up a diagnostic of the ship. There were multiple spots on the ship where they were most likely being boarded by either a rescue team or an enemy.

"Finally after all this time!" The voice exclaimed louder this time. Cortana was now trying her best to keep her Rampancy away just for awhile longer. Cortana slid the ship diagnostic to the side and brought up the cryo tubes activation interface she momentarily searched for the correct one then tapped her fingers on it. The cryo tube gave her a reading on the chief's vitals. she payed no attention to them as her eyes were fixed on the large button that read reactivate...

Confusion, that's what was going through the Master chief's mind for a split second. As soon as he realized that he was trapped he snapped to attention and put his hands against the glass.

"Chief! Easy, you've been out for a while." The Master Chief immediately recognized the voice as his AI companion. upon hearing her voice the Chief settled down and looked over at her.

"Where are we?" He asked as he tried to recognize his surroundings.

"We're still adrift on the Dawn." She replied as she brought up a projection in front of her. The Chief was confused to say the least. He thought that someone surely would have found them by now. But the real question on the Chief's mind was...

"Why did you wake me?" He asked in his trademark monotone voice.

"Hang on. Bringing your systems online now." She said currently focused at the task. The Chief looked down at his armor and noticed that it had changed quite a bit. The Chief was impressed to say the least.

Cortana noticed his actions for a moment and responded. "I rewrote your suit's firmware while you were out."

Master Chief nodded. "You've been busy."

"Activating the ship's gravity generators." Cortana announced. A moment later boxes and a few weapons fell to the ground. The ship's systems then began to announce the restoration after it had already happened.

"Chief - look up, you need to pull the manual release." Cortana instructed.

Master Chief looked up and instantly found the small handle that he was looking for. He pulled down on the handle which led to a hissing noise inside the pod. The chief looked back down at the canopy and pushed it open. He then made his way to a smiling Cortana.

"Seems like old times." She said, still smiling.

"Ready to get back to work?" He asked.

"I'd though you'd never ask." She replied. Taking that as his Que, John pulled the chip which held Cortana and inserted it into the back of his helmet. Cortana had immediately found her way onto the Chief's HUD which surprised him a little. The Chief's next objective was to see if any of the weapons that were floating around were still in good shape. He bent down and threw a small box to the side underneath the box's previous position was a standard issue UNSC assault rifle and a few mags to go with it. The master chief picked up the deadly weapon and inspected the gun for a few moments before he switched it from safe to full-auto then picked up the mags that went with the killing machine.

Suddenly Cortana appeared on the Chief's HUD, "We've got intrusion alerts lighting up on multiple decks. Our best bet to figure out who's boarding us is the Observation Deck - four floors up."

"Could it be a rescue team?" Chief asked her. As soon as he finished his question a multitude of rumbles and explosions sounded throughout the ship.

Cortana shook her head slightly. "I wouldn't bet on it." And with that she disappeared from his HUD.

The Chief looked down the hall and set off, setting off to face the unknown border head on...

"SPIIIKE!?" A voice sounded throughout a library tree. This library tree, known as the "mare cave" by some, was home to the studious student Twilight Sparkle. And she was currently not very happy.

Inside the library a teenage purple and green dragon was frantically running back and forth trying to do a million things at once. He was supposed to meet his close friend Rarity at a special restraunt tonight and was supposed to help Twilight study the stars on the same night. He told her what he had already planned but promised to help her set up everything.

"What is it Twilight?" Spike ran over to Twilight, panting as he did so. Twilight was currently set up with a large telescope, 5 notepads, 3 astronomy guides, and had some of Spike's homemade cookies along side her.

"I need quills!" She said loudly. Not even bothering to say please. Knowing she forgot them, Spike pulled some extra quills from his black tuxedo pocket.

"There. Now if you'll excuse me I'll see you later tonight." He breathed as he ran down stairs, shutting the door behind him. Now Twilight the unicorn was all alone. She smiled, Princess Luna had given her the task to study tonight's star fall and Twilight, being the unicorn who always wanted to learn more happily accepted. To bad she didn't know that tonight she was about to see something that would eventually change everything she knew about her world...

Chapter 2
Abandon ship
Location: Forward unto Dawn
View point: Third person, Master Chief

"That's all of them, Chief," Cortana confirmed as he finished off an Elite. Only minutes ago had they learned that an entire Covenant fleet was sitting right outside their door. After a small fight with the Covenant, Cortana ran a scan on one of the cruisers and found that its shields were down and vulnerable to an attack. Their only plan of engagement now was to launch one of the missiles that were on the Dawn right at it.

"Are we nearing the missiles?" He asked her as he entered an airlock.

"Yes. The auxiliary launch station should be to your left out off the airlocks," She replied.

"You'll have to prime the launch for ignition," Cortana continued but this time she sounded distorted which worried the Chief.

"Cortana?" The Chief asked his companion, hoping she was alright.

What she said next comforted the Chief very little, "It's nothing. Just get to the launch station."

He would have argued with her had there not been a Covenant fleet right outside. The airlock began to hiss signaling the pressure change as it did so Master Chief checked his ammunition. He had a couple mags left for his Assault rifle and had three shots left in a Concussion rifle. A rather loud hiss filled the airlock this time and the door leading out onto the wrecked ship opened. As the Chief stepped outside he noticed two things, the first being there was a Battle rifle with a few mags floating in front of him and second, the Dawn was orbiting around a giant metal planet.

"Uh- I'm sorry, did I miss orbiting a Forerunner planet at some point?" Cortana Asked the Chief as he threw the useless concussion rifle into space.

"One thing at a time," He told her, snatching the Battle rifle and the magazines. Suddenly out of nowhere, two phantoms approached their position and began to offload troops. The Chief mentally cursed at himself for not seeing the phantoms sooner. He took cover behind a nearby wall and scoped out the area in just a few seconds. There were a good amount of Grunts but very few Jackals and Elites. It was going to be a walk in the park for him to reach that launch station.

The Chief, set with his battle plan, leapt from cover and charged the grunts below him. Five quick pulls from the trigger of his Battle rifle was all it took to kill them. The Chief landed on top of a floating Grunt corpse and turned to his left. He aimed the Battle rifle's sights on a Jackal sniper and pulled the trigger causing the Jackal's head to explode in a fine blue mist.

"Marking the last few Covenant for you, Chief." Cortana told him as he reloaded his empty BR. A multitude of blue diamonds appeared beyond the wall the Chief was currently behind. He did a quick head count to find only four Covenant remained. The Chief now set with a new game plan leapt from cover once again, Assault rifle now drawn, and charged the last few bad guys on the current level. The first to fall was a simple Jackal infantry unit, The Elite next to his now dead ally and let out a ferocious battle cry. The Chief took this opportunity and unloaded the last of his magazine into the Elite, taking down it's shields. Not wanting to waste ammo, Master Chief charged at the elite with a knife drawn. The Elite attempted to reach for his plasma grenade but was stopped as the Chief jumped on the Elite's chest and stabbed him in the skull.

"Two down, two to go." He thought to himself as he pushed off the dead Elite and moved forward. The Chief made his way up the ramp towards the launch station as he did so a scared Grunt had bumped into him which resulted in the Chief simply snapping its neck, The Chief then turned and started up the second ramp with a fully loaded Assault rifle when another Elite roared his hatred for the demon. Master Chief wasted no time and pulled down the trigger, unloading the entire magazine into his current foe. The Elite fell onto the floor as a *click* sound came from the Chief's AR. He quickly reloaded and checked his radar to see if he had missed any Covenant foe. After five seconds he was satisfied and ran up towards the console. It took him less than a second to find the launch button since it was lit up on one of the screens. He gave the button a simple tap and turned his attention towards the ground level.

"Launch initiated." Cortana said rather loudly as the missile emerged from the Dawn. Everything seemed like it was going to be fine until Chief noticed a yellow flash emitted from somewhere beside the missile.

"Great. The blast door's jammed. The missile won't fire until it's cleared." She explained to the Chief as two more Phantoms appeared.

"Get down there!" She ordered him. The Chief nodded and began to sprint down the ramp but stopped as he spied a Covenant weapon rack filled with Carbine rifles. He approached the weapons rack and tossed aside his Battle rifle whilst picking up a Carbine. With his new weapon equipped at the ready, Chief sprinted down to the ground level and began to slaughter the Covenant who had been sent to stop him. Grunt after Jackal after Elite fell before him as he made his way towards the source of the jam. Finally after a mere two minutes of fighting the Chief had reached the jam. He set down his Carbine and rammed his shoulder into the block like mechanism which caused it to only move a few feet. The Chief looked up and saw that the cruiser was charging its main weapon. The Chief then quickly kicked the mechanism back to where it should have been. As he did so two mechanical arms went down towards the missile and green smoke rose from the missile chamber.

"You did it! Get back!" She told him as the missile launched up and at itss target. It was going to be close, the cruiser was almost above them and ready to fire. Thankfully the missile impacted against the Covenant cruiser and blew it into pieces.

"That was too close for comfort." Chief thought to himself as he moved into the open and began to examine the Forerunner planet. Suddenly an orange pulse emitted from a small hole on the planet and sent a beam aimed straight at the Chief. The Chief tensed his muscles as the beam connected with him but found that unnecessary as it just seemed to scan his entire body.

"Chief..." Cortana said slowly.

"The Covenant weren't the ones scanning us." He confirmed, as he finished his sentence the beam retracted and the planet actually began to open itself up and pull everything inside.

"So NOW can we worry about the giant metal planet?" She asked him. All the Chief could do was nod slightly and began to back away from the edge of the ship.

"It's using a gravity well to pull us inside the surface! We've got to hurry; the second we cross the dome's event horizon, its atmosphere will tear us apart," She told the Chief as he dodged an incoming Covenant barrier.

"Where are the closest escape pods?" He asked her calmly.

"Aft vehicle bay! I'm tagging the closest airlock, go!" A marker popped up on an open hatch not to far from the Chief he sprinted into it and waited for it to re pressurize.

"Hull integrity at thirty percent." A female voice sounded throughout the Dawn. Master Chief ignored it as the door leading to his objective opened. As soon as he sprinted out the door a section of the roof collapsed and blocked off a hallway. Chief turned away from the wrecked roof and sprinted down the next hallway which fell a little due to the added weight. The Chief rounded a corner and spotted a small group of Grunts who were crushed as the ceiling caved in again. He now had the option to go down or across the top. He made his choice as he jumped down and sprinted forward.

"All but one of the grav generators just went dark!" Cortana informed the Chief.

"Just keep me pointed towards that vehicle bay." He calmly replied as he turned around another corner. The Master Chief sprinted through all the destruction and scared Grunts with ease. Soon he reached a rather large hole in the floor which he simply leapt over with his powerful legs. As he came to the end of the hallway an Elite limped into view, trying to escape a fiery death. The Chief simply ignored him and ran past two more Grunts before He rounded the last corner which led to the vehicle bay. But as he neared the doors one of them was sucked right out into space.

"John!" Cortana cried out as the Chief grabbed a hold of the other door. The Chief watched his only chance of escape be torn away as half of the wall, filled with escape pods, was ripped from the Dawn He turned his attention back to the door and tried to hold on but fate just wasn't going to let that happen. His grip on the door failed as he was ripped away from it. He spun around and quickly latched onto a railing that was barely holding onto the Dawn as it was.

"Hold on!" Cortana cried again. Her cries were in vain as the railing came loose and the Chief was sucked right out of the Dawn. As soon as he was away from the Dawn a large piece of it came into view and he was heading straight for it. The Chief was able to avoid impaling himself upon any loose metal but he was dragged against the inside of the wreckage causing his shields to deplete.

"We're caught in the gravity well!" Cortana told him which explained why they were rapidly approaching the planet.

"Can you track the escape pods?" He asked her as he dodged a piece of wreckage.

"Negative! Look out!" She warned him as a piece of a Covenant cruiser came into his path. The Chief aimed himself through a opening in the cruiser, an explosion emitted from the opening obscuring his visibility of the other side. He plowed right through the opening and had just enough time to bring up his hands as a small piece of the Dawn collided with him causing him to become unconscious as both he and Cortana entered the atmosphere...

Twilight Sparkle sighed with content upon her balcony, once again Princess Luna's starfall had been beautiful. The way that mare manipulated the night was amazing. Twilight turned her attention to the all the notes she had taken during the event and giggled. She had used up most of the paper in less than two hours. Twilight levitated all of her notes back into the library and was about to pack up her setup when she saw something twinkle in the distance. Normally she would have payed no attention to it but this twinkle was followed by more twinkles and they seemed to be falling towards the ground. Twilight quickly pressed one of her eyes against the telescope to see what those twinkles actually were. She adjusted all the knobs on her telescope in an attempt to see more clearly and what she saw next made her mind almost shut down. In the distance, far away from Ponyville or the Ever Free Forrest, were what appeared to be... Structures of some kind and they were falling towards the Forbidden valley. The Forbidden valley was called a place of mystery and a place of death, Any pony who dared entered never came back out. Twilight had never ever had the guts to go there... never say never.

Chapter 3
Revelations
Location: The mare cave

It had only been a few hours since Twilight saw the strange structures fall from outer space and she was currently in a frenzy...

"No, no, no, no, no!" Twilight fumed as she desperately searched for the last book she needed.

The frenzied librarian was currently in her basement where she kept the most useful and most dangerous books hidden away from the public. A lot of the books down there were about high level destruction spells and guides to certain parts of Equestria. She was currently looking for one about the Forbidden Valley. The Forbidden Valley was discovered in the very early stages of Equestria's founding even before the Princess's arrival. There were tales of massive structures that could be seen all the way from current day Canterlot. But of course they were just tales, legends, and myths... right?

Twilight looked high and she looked low but she couldn't find the guide anywhere. She sighed in defeat but stopped her mopping as her number one assistant walked through the door.

Spike whistled at how messy her basement had become. "Nice Twi, don't expect me to clean all this up now though."

Twilight once again sighed, "I wasn't planning on it... How did your date go?"

Spike smiled the biggest smile she had ever seen. "I'm guessing you had the time of your life?" she asked him.

Spike nodded before he let out a yawn."It's late Twilight you should get some rest-" Spike stopped mid speech as he hit his foot on a certain guide.

"A guide on the Forbidden valley." He read aloud which in turn caused his mother to yell.

"WHAT!?"

Twilight instantly teleported in front of Spike and magically brought the guide up to her face. After she confirmed what Spike said was true she slowly lowered the book down from here face.

"You mean to tell me... THIS GUIDE has been sitting here for the past two hours since I started searching...?" Twilight slowly asked aloud.

Spike, seeing Twilight's mane and tail starting to smoke and not to mention her twitching right eye, quickly grabbed his old safety gear which was two pillows and a hoofball helmet... he was doomed.

"THIS GUIDE WAS HERE ALL ALONG?!?!?" She screamed

"Um... yes?" Spike barely managed.

Twilight then burst into a giant ball of fury and screamed a scream which managed to lift the library of the ground...

THE NEXT DAY...

Twilight, having had a very rough night last night (not that way you pervs), was finally ready to start her journey. She had done everything she needed to do. On her back were her lovely light lavender saddlebags that were currently filled with food, courtesy of the Apple family, destruction spells, a map and compass, and finally she had a guide to the Forbidden valley right in front of her as she got near the edge of Ponyville with her friends right behind her to wish her luck. Much to Twilight's disappointment, Rarity and Fluttershy couldn't see her off as they were both extremely busy.

"Twilight, are ya'll sure yer gonna be ok?" Applejack asked her librarian gal pal.

Twilight sighed and turned to her apple bucking friend. "Don't worry Applejack, I'll be fine, Pinkie promise."

Suddenly, Pinkie Pie dropped from the sky right in front of Twilight. "You have to do the motions!"

Twilight, first shocked then relieved, rolled her eyes. "Pinkie Pi-"

"DO IT!" Pinkie yelled, looking ready to kill.

Twilight, once again rolled her eyes and did the motions perfectly... well almost perfect.

"Agh! every time with the eye!" Twilight complained as she held her left eye shut tight. After a moment her friends laughed as did she, Twilight was never able to truly master the Pinkie promise.

Pinkie Pie smiled and bounced backwards to the back of the group. Finally The group of friends had made it to the beginning of Twilight's journey to the forbidden valley and the journey began at the Everfree Forest.

The guide told Twilight that the path to the forbidden valley was UNFORTUNATELY carved through this terrible forest. The group froze for a moment, remembering all the terrible things they had experienced during their adventures years ago.

"Twilight, are you sure you don't need me to go with you at least?" Rainbow dash asked as she descended to the ground in her royal guard armor.

"But Dash, your a major in the royal guard. Don't you have duties to attend?" Twilight pointed out to her friend.

Rainbow stepped forward . "Screw the duties, your my best friend and if anything happened to you I would never forgive myself."

Rainbow Dash had long ago given up on being a Wonderbolt when she was saved by shining armor and many other active guard members from a Manticore. The reports said that the Manticore had flown after Rainbow Dash and struck her down but not before she roughed him up a bit, that thing lost it's eye! Twilight's brother and his squad had been on a routine scouting mission and saw most of the fight, most of the guards wouldn't go into detail about how the manticore lost it's eye. Rainbow Dash thanked Shining Armor after the incident and asked if she could join the royal guard to help protect others and now here she was a few years later, Rainbow Dash a major in the royal guard, clad in full suit of armor asking to go on another adventure. Twilight smiled at that, She truly did show how much her friends meant to her and proved time and time again why she was the element of loyalty.

"Rainbow Dash, thank you for the offer, but I'd rather do this on my own." Twilight then turned as Rainbow Dash saluted her and started walking into the forest as her friends goodbyes could be heard. Twilight was feeling confident as she magically pulled out the guide and a map, showing her the way. Little did she know that as soon she put her hoof inside that forest she had begun an epic journey that would forever change her both in mind and body...

Hard landing

View point, third person: Chief

The beach.... such a calming place it can be. The Chief didn't know how he got here but none the less he was here, walking along side the ocean. He tried to stop and stare at the sea for just a moment but his body wouldn't respond to his thoughts. In a situation such one would think he would panic but he did not. The Chief simply went along with it an-

"John!"

The Chief stopped... that voice... it seemed so familiar. The Chief tried to move towards the source of the voice and this time his body let him. He didn't run nor did he jog, he simply walked towards the source of the voice which was further down the beach. As the Master Chief got closer to the source he heard it again but this time it was different.

"John!"

This new voice sounded desperate almost and it was coming from the same direction as the original. He quickened his pace and soon saw a small boy sitting on the beach, playing in the sand. As the Chief got even closer he stopped... That small boy in the sand... was him.

" Wake up John!"

________________________________________

The chief's eye's slowly opened. He tried to figure out what had happened first he had a weird dream and now he was somewhere dark. John suddenly remembered that he had got knocked out from a piece of the Dawn... which was probably what was sitting on top of him. At first when he tried to ball his hands they were numb. He slowly flexed each of his fingers and finally made a tight fist which took away any numbness left in his hands. The master Chief quickly placed his hands under the metal plating and with his powerful muscles he threw the metal plate off of him as if it weighed nothing more than a person.

Slowly John sat up and looked at what laid before him. Both the Forward unto Dawn and the Covenant vessel were in large broken pieces. Fires burned brightly everywhere as the chief turned his head. He stopped when he realized how much time he had wasted and slowly stood up and looked forward. Hopefully Cortana would know where they were

"Where are we?" He asked his companion who was thankfully unharmed.

A moment passed before she responded. "Checking coordinate impact data."

as soon as the words had left her mouth the Chief was assaulted with a voice he hadn't heard in a long time.

"We've asked you to give up your family, your childhood, your future-"

"what?" The chief shook his head and yanked out Cortana, "Cortana!"

Cortana appeared before him standing and twisting her hands, "I'm sorry. It's the crash. I'm fine."

Now the Chief definitely knew something was up, "Something was wrong even before we left the Dawn.

"Chief, really, i'm fine." Cortana horribly lied as her voice crackled.

The master chief slowly stood up and looked at Cortana with a hard stare, "We're not going anywhere until you tell me what's wrong."

Cortana looked towards the ground and sighed, she knew he wasn't going to take the news easy.

"I was put into service eight years ago."

"Eight years?" The chief thought aloud as he tried to figure out what that was supposed to mean.

"AIs deteriorate after seven, Chief." Cortana said, revealing the horrible truth.

John slowly turned his head back towards Cortana. Cortana was going to die... and it looked as if there was nothing he could do to stop that... unless.

"Halsey." He said with a strained voice.

"Chief-" Cortana began as she closed her eyes.

"We need to find Halsey." He repeated with the same tone of voice.

"Chief-please!" Cortana begged, it was difficult enough to reveal this to him but to now have a supposed source of hope as well...

"She made you. She can fix you." He told her, confidence slowly returning in his voice."

"I won't recover from rampancy, Chief." Cortana told him.

The chief wouldn't take no for an answer, "If we can just get back to earth and find Halsey, she can fix this."

A moment of silence passed between the two as they stared at each other knowing fully well that they had began another adventure.

"Don't make a girl a promise you can't keep." Cortana told him with a sad expression.

The two's conversation was then ended as a Phantom and a pair of banshes soared over their heads.

"We need to move!" Cortana commanded as the Chief inserted her into the back of his helmet.

The first order of business was to find a weapon. The Chief turned around and spied the Carbine that he had taken from the covenant storage rack on the Dawn. He walked over to it and noticed that the front of the Carbine was scorched black, except the barrel, and that the rest of the gun had remained it's purple color. The chief picked up the damaged Carbine and a few extra cartridges that looked intact. The chief then tried to fire a couple of shots, thankfully the gun still worked.

"Guess your lucks still holding out." Cortana said to him with a crackle in her speech.

As The Chief nodded and turned around, Cortana finally took notice of the area, "Doesn't look like the Covenant fared much better than we did."

"How many ships made it through the roof?" The Chief asked her.

"Plenty... Why?" She asked.

The Chief began walking away from the spot he landed, "Cause we still need a ride home."

As the two began making their way through the wreckage Elites and Grunts could be heard wailing in pain. But that was not the only thing that was making noise.

"Chief, up there." Cortana said aloud as she set a waypoint on top of a destroyed Lich.

"What's up there?" He asked her as he made his way around the destroyed vessel and began climbing to the top to find a destroyed console.

"The console still has some power left so I figured we should see if we can find anything that could help us." Cortana explained.

That made sense. The master chief quickly walked over and kenneled down to interact with the console. A few moments after he had done so an elite began to repeat one word over and over again, "Didact.... Didact"

"What does it mean?" John asked his companion.

"It's a message... They played this message every thirty minutes for the past three years..." Cortana informed him.

"Three years?" He asked as he began moving towards the new waypoint which lead to an exit out of the small destroyed canyon.

"Apparently they couldn't get in." She chuckled.

The duo cut their conversation there as the Chief came towards the exit. He gave his radar a quick glance and moved forward once he was satisfied. He also checked his ammo count and noticed he only had thirty Carbine shots and zero grenades left. It'll have to do.

"Chief, I'm picking up a faint transmission on the high-band." Cortana said as she interrupted the Chief's train of thought. She also brought up a display inside his HUD to show it to him.

"Covenant?" He asked her as he vaulted over a piece of debris that had made it's way into the tunnel.

She took away the display,"I don't think so... The pattern's different. I'll try and triangulate it's position"

The master chief nodded as he rounded the corner and saw a blinding white light at the end of the tunnel. As the Chief got closer to the end of the tunnel his visor polarized(?) a few times. The Chief walked through the end of the tunnel and was met with quite a sight. Giant Forerunner structures that loomed thousands of miles high floated hundreds of miles of the ground. The structures began to shift and change their massive parts right before his very eyes and had he not been on an important mission he would have stopped to glance at them. No nothing else was more important to him at that moment than saving Cortana. The Chief turned down the small path that lead away from the cave and saw warthogs, destroyed warthogs.

I need to find something with wheels if I want to get us out of he- The Chief's thoughts came to a screeching halt as he walked past a flaming warthog and spied a perfectly intact warthog... With a purple pony sitting in the drivers seat...

Unicorns, Elites, and Warthogs oh my!
Location: Unknown

The Chief couldn't believe what he was seeing, it was impossible... yet there it was twenty-five feet in front of him, a purple... unicorn, Sitting in the driver's seat of what appeared to be the only intact warthog in the area... and said Warthog was also pointed towards the edge of the cliff. Very few things had ever stopped the Spartan in his tracks before and this mythical creature was able to do so in less than two seconds, a new record. The Chief did the only thing that seemed sensible at the time and quietly dashed over to a nearby boulder on his right and began to consult Cortana about the creature.

"Cortana, did you se-"

"yes... yes I did, that thing was a purple unicorn which, by the way, was sitting in the driver's seat of that Warthog." She replied, almost not believing her own words.

John simply replied with, "I noticed." He then peaked around the edge of the boulder and saw what appeared to be a notebook and... quill floating next to the creature. He also took note that the objects were encased in a purple aura and same said aura was around it's horn.

"And now it's using what appears to be magic, great, any more surprises?" Cortana asked in a sarcastic tone.

"Oh this is just so fascinating! It almost looks like the ancient Pumas that used to roam in Zebrica!" The unicorn squealed as she jumped out of the drivers seat and walked around the Warthog, inspecting every detail of it's exterior.

Now once again very few things were able to completely stop the Master Chief in his tracks and the small purple creature had done it yet again and this time the result was instant, goodbye two second record. Slowly the Spartan brought himself back behind the rock and pulled Cortana out of the back of his helmet, she appeared before him and the two stared at each other for a moment before speaking.

"Chief..." Cortana started.

"...That thing just spoke English." The Spartan whispered to his AI companion.

"And it's a sentient living being... Chief we need to make contact." Cortana told her protector.

John wasn't to pleased with the idea, He wasn't exactly the diplomatic type and past first contacts weren't exactly great, but still he knew she was right, he quickly inserted Cortana back into his helmet as he heard the squeak of leather, peaking back around the boulder he saw the unicorn was once again sitting in the drivers seat and was currently ogling the dashboard of the Warthog. The Master Chief wanted everything to go smoothly, he took off his battle scared carbine and laid it down on the ground. He still had his combat knife but that was all. He took a moment to stand up and took a breath... and that's when he heard it scream. The Spartan quickly ran around the boulder to see an elite with an energy sword slowly walking towards the purple unicorn.

"S-somepony, help me, please!" It cried out as it's horn sputtered a few purple sparks towards the elite.

It's sounds like a female. The Chief noted before returning to the situation at hand.

The elite laughed and began to quicken its pace but stopped as he spotted the Master Chief. He raised his free hand and pointed at the Spartan.

"DEMON!" The elite roared, causing the unicorn to turn her head and spot yet another alien. She panicked at everything that was happening around her and fell onto the pedals in the warthog causing it to propel forwards towards the cliff's edge.

"Chief save.. her! She's our best bet at learning where we are right now!" Cortana commanded.

Wasting no time the Spartan quickly withdrew his knife from it's sheath and skillfully threw it towards the elite's leg, earning a cry from the elite and slowing it down long enough for him to save the unicorn. He sprinted at full speed and just as the Warthog went over the cliff's edge halfway the Chief grabbed the back end of the Warthog and began to pull. The unicorn kept screaming, thinking for sure she had fallen off the cliff.

"Come on Chief, pull!" Cortana yelled.

The Spartan's muscles bulged as he used his super human strength and picked up the Warthog briefly before tossing it back onto the cliff just in time to stop the elite from stabbing him with it's energy sword, said elite roared in the Chief's face before the Master Chief punched it in the head and used the elite's strength and momentum against him and let him fly off the cliff.

"Well that's one problem solved." Cortana commented.

Which now leaves us with problem two. The Chief thought to himself as he turned to the Warthog which was facing a rock wall. He watched as the wheels came to a halt and the the rumble of the engine was the only sound in the vicinity. After another moment the Purple unicorn peaked her head from the Warthog and saw the Spartan standing near the cliff's edge, slowly she began to climb out of the warthog, all the while keeping her eyes on the metal giant before her. Finally she was out of the vehicle after what felt like an eternity and simply stared at the creature in front of her. John stood like a statue not knowing what to do or say, the silence in the air was so thick that you could cut it with a knife. Surprisingly enough, after a few moments the purple unicorn was the first to speak.

"U-um h-hello?" She hesitantly asked.

The Master Chief quickly shook his head, clearing his thoughts, and responded to the small horse before him,"Are you alright... ma'am?"

The unicorn's eye's widened and she nodded slowly, "Y-yes i'm fine thanks to you mister..."

"You can call me Spartan one-one-seven." The Chief commented. Silence hung in the air like shit to a blanket after he gave his 'name' to her. To say the situation was awkward was beyond an understatement as both parties were uneasy even if they didn't show it. This was first contact between two species after all. The Chief took the silence as an opportunity to approach the creature and inquire about her name.

"Ma'am, may I ask you your name?" The Master Chief asked as he slowly walked closer to the now more situated unicorn. The unicorn in turn took a moment to gaze up at her savior as he stood in front of her, looking down as if she were a small child about to get a scolding. The unicorn took a breath, to say she was nervous about the next part would have been the biggest understatement in history but regardless she put on a mask of confidence, for her race, held out her hoof and watched as the metal giant extended his arm and accepted it with his own appendage.

"My name is Twilight Sparkle, and it's a pleasure to make you're acquaintance mister one-one-seven..."
