> A Cold Night > by PrincessEclipse > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Cold > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cold (this is supposed to be short, sweet, and to the point.) Luna looked upon the stars and sighed. It was another cold winter night and she wished that ponies were actually enjoying it. But no, the ponies couldn't care less about the night, they only thought of it as cold, dark, and scary. Turning away from the moon, she headed back inside to her room and sat on her bed with a steaming cup of coffee. Her sister's echoed down the hallway, and Luna sometimes envied her only having to be awake during the day. No matter, she thought. There was always something interesting Luna could find when there was nothing else to do. Celestia may have problems during the day, but Luna took great care of her night, and nothing ever happened. Well, there were sometimes when ponies would freak out over a star gone missing or something else that doesn't really matter. Luna glanced at her clock, it was only 11:30. She stood up and stretched her legs, it was going to be a long night. Her ears pricked up at footsteps, and she noticed she could no longer hear snoring, Tia was awake. Celestia's shadow came from under the door and with that a gentle tapping sound. Luna called out,"Come in." and Celestia opened the door. She looked rather sad and spoke quietly,"I heard you crying and came to check on you." Luna's hoof shot to her face, which was indeed wet with tears. She mumbled something about allergies and said louder," I'm fine sis, thank you, good night and good bye." Celestia made as if to leave but paused at the door," If you need some company, my faithful student told me her friend Fluttershy likes to look at the stars. Maybe you could visit her?" With that she left and so did Luna. She grabbed a soft blue blanket, her favorite for stargazing, on the way out. She snuck past the guards(as the castle is teleportation-proof) and flew out above the clouds. When she reached Ponyville, she paused and looked back. Maybe I should go home, she thought,It doesn't seem like anypony is awake. but she chose to stay and searched for the path to Fluttershy's cottage. She found it, and carefully walked up the path. her eyes widened in surprise, Fluttershy was stargazing and even was drawing it on a piece of paper. Luna tentatively came forth from the shadows and whispered,"Hi." Fluttershy jumped and hid behind a pebble before saying,"Oh, Luna! I'm sorry, you just frightened me! Oh, hello...What brings you here?" Luna smiled softly and said," I heard you like to stargaze and I was feeling lonely.May I?" she asked before laying next to Fluttershy at a tiny "yes." Fluttershy finished her drawing while Luna admired her work and whispered softly, "Don't forget that star." Fluttershy added the final star and set the paper aside. She looked up at Luna expectantly and Luna, with a sudden burst of passion, kissed Fluttershy. Fluttershy's cheeks became red as she kissed back. They held like this for what seemed to be forever. When they broke apart Luna realized," Some nights are worth remembering." Fluttershy bobbed her head in agreement as she fell asleep on top of Luna. Luna smiled and stroked her hair before joining Fluttershy in sleep. In the morning, Luna awoke first and lowered the moon before preparing to head back to the castle. Looking at the sleeping figure of Fluttershy, she knew she couldn't leave without saying goodbye, or at least leaving a note. She levitated Fluttershy inside and placed her on her bed. She found rose-scented paper and wrote in her typical spidery horn writing, Dearest Fluttershy, I wish to say thank you for that wonderful stargazing last night. I even wish to say that I love you, Fluttershy. I would very much like you to be my marefriend. If only we could see each other more often. But since we cannot, I will write you a letter every night and tell you all the things that I've never been able to say to anypony else. I love you and I wish for you to have only the best. Next to this note there should be a breakfast laid out for you, so sorry I could not say good bye to you personally, I hoped to make it up to you. Your lover, Princess Luna There was, indeed, a wonderful breakfast of pancakes, bacon, and eggs set on the table, next to it was a beautiful rose freshly picked. Fluttershy sighed when she read the note and immediately wrote back, Dear Luna, The stargazing was no trouble at all, and as for being your marefriend, I would really like that. Thank you for the wonderful breakfast and the rose. I have the rose in my window sill in a pretty blue vase that reminds me of you. I never realized how much I cared for you until last night. And now, I can hardly wait to see you again. I wish to see you again soon, Fluttershy. When Luna received that letter, she was very excited and began to plan for the Winter Solstice so they could see each other. Celestia seemed pleased Luna was happy and allowed Luna to continue on. The Winter Solstice soon came and after she raised the moon, there was much cake and partying. But Luna was only focused on finding a certain yellow Pegasus and she did find her, standing quietly in a corner her eyes flitting around the room with much intent. Eventually they settled on Luna and her lips curled into a smile. They ran up to each other and began talking about how their days had been and how much they had missed each other but then music began to play. It was slow music and Octavia herself was playing bass, so Fluttershy and Luna began to dance. They moved slowly, danced in time with each other and the music. Luna spun Fluttershy around and swung her low, planting a kiss on her lips. From afar, Celestia was watching them with a knowing smile...
