> Friendship is like a Teapot > by TheTwerp > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Teapots & Friends > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Hold still!" "Ugh, I'm trying!" "Well if you could try a little harder maybe this would go faster." "Hay it's not my fault your place is boring!" "Carousel boutique is not "Boring" it is the centre for fashion in the whole of Ponyville-" "Yadda, yadda, just hurry up will ya! I need to fly!" "Hmph." The Client had been slowly getting on her nerves. Wrapped in the loving embrace of the velvet night she had begun such a lovely dream too. Standing in a hillside meadow on a clear day with wondrous sunfire poppies littering the ground. Dressed in a gorgeous ensemble of pure white silk, gold lace and sapphire blue highlights. Her mane loose and flowing when, if the wind permitted, showed off her swanlike neck and diamond ear rings. She had been waiting for him, her handsome prince adorned in a selection of gleaming silver armour that reflected the sky. Armed with a golden sword hilted at his side, shimmering shield strewn across his back and his impressive physique all contained inside that glittering armour. With a sheepish smile that caused a strange tingle and lit her face on fire he marched forward and stood in front of her. "Lady Rarity?" He asked pulling his helmet free losing a tumble of golden locks. "Yes my prince?" She uttered enthralled by his long flowing mane that showered his face. "I know it is improper to ask you in this manner." He raised a hoof to stroke her face. "However I cannot contain myself any longer!" "Oh my..." She shuddered. "My lady?" He pulled a large box from his armoured pockets, revealing a golden ring with a large blue diamond embedded in the centre. "Will you marry me?" "Oh my prince..." She took the ring and placed it on her horn before moving closer. As the wind carried the golden locks from his muzzle and their lips went to meet for a breathtaking kiss- *Crash* "Rarity! I need you!" That's when she woke up. It had been Rainbow Dash who after first bashing into the door and then shouting her out bed had begun ranting and raving about a new Wonderbolts tour. With enough time to shove a piece of sloppily buttered toast in her mouth she had begun to weave a new outfit for her friend. Still all she needed right now was a squealing pegasus raving over how she needed a new fan-filly costume. "Oh and Spitfire is gonna be there with a bunch of new recruits so...Hay! Are you even listening to me?" "Darling I'm trying to think a moment." Rarity mumbled into her notepad. "Ugh, you never listen to me!" Feeling her ire rise slightly Rarity turned away from her client with a haughty huff. "You know Rainbow Dash it was not my idea to come in here shouting and being a nuisance!" Trotting up to a mirror and despairing over her bedraggled appearance due to a horrendous case of bedmane and no make-up. "I was having a most lovely dream until you came and ruined it!" She began to try and straighten the purple locks with her magic but finding the lustrous mane was having none of it she ceased her attempt. Turning back to the offending pegasus Rarity felt a triumphant flutter dance up her spine as she saw her friend darken and slump down. "I'm sorry Rarity..." Rainbow said sadly rubbing her hoof against the back of her head. With the triumphant feeling vanishing in a poof of smoke Rarity sighed and picked up her measuring tape. "Oh, forgot it dear." Rarity said feeling a bit shameful. "I know how you get around the Wonderbolts. Now just sit still for a few more minutes and we'll be done. Okay?" "Yeah, okay." Rainbow visibly brightened again. With that the fashionista went back to work sizing her friend up for a mock Wonderbolt uniform. Personally she thought the standard uniforms were a bit garish but this being a mock-up could do with a little more style. "Mm, maybe some nice lavender hints in the legs?" Thinking back to the earlier rambles of the now pacified pegasus Rarity had gleamed, in-between Rainbow's squeals, that the Wonderbolts were coming to Ponyville for a special charity tour. An organization called "Pennies for the Poor" who were endorsed by the princesses themselves raised bits for all the ponies who couldn't read or go to school. "As if there are still ponies who can't afford to go to school!" Rarity thought idly to herself. "I wonder if Twilight had anything to do with it so far? I image she would have a heart attack if she found out that some ponies couldn't read." "Lift your left wing please." Rainbow complied while continuing to fidget quietly. "Huh? Some of her feathers are loose. I wonder if she'll let me have some?" Looking up she saw Rainbow's bored expression and in an act of pre-emptive action Rarity spoke before boredom made the cyan pegasus begin to twitch again. "So, how did you get the tickets?" "Huh? Oh well me and Snow Drop went to get tickets anyway but when we got there Spitfire saw us, of course she remembered and me set us up with VIP tickets!" Rarity sighed as Rainbow began to bounce again. "Still!" The bubbly pegasus became stone still. "Better. So have you kept them somewhere safe?" "Oh no they are being delivered in the mail today. I got Derpy to pick them up on her shift and bring them here for me." Rainbow said matter-of-factly. "Derpy...the mailmare?" Rarity stopped her measurements gazed thoughtfully at the pegasus. "Yea...why'd you say it like that?" Rainbow shifted feeling confused. "I thought Derpy worked for Cloudsdale movers?" Rarity inquired bringing a hoof to her chin. "Oh she does all kinds of jobs." Rainbow sniffed while waving a hoof. "Something to do with her kid going to an expensive college. To be fair us gals on the weather team get her something extra on Hearth's Warming Eve, ya'know to help them out and everything." "Well that's nice of you dear, let me know next time I'll be sure to pitch in as well." Rarity smiled happily. Silence pervaded the little shop for a while as Rarity continued to take her measurements with Rainbow settling to stare blankly into space, clearly fantasizing about her soon to be encounter with the Wonderbolts again. *Knock* *Knock* "Come in~~~" Rarity sang out startling the now drooling pegasus. As the door bell clattered she called to her new customer. "Welcome to Carousel Boutique where every garment is chic, unique and magnifique." "Hi Rarity! Hi Rainbow Dash!" A grey pegasus with a long sweep of yellow mane waved cheerfully. "Derpy darling how nice to see you!" Rarity said moving toward Derpy but not before being punted over as a multicoloured blur pushed past. "Derpy! Did'ja get um! Did'ja!" Rainbow chirped bouncing around the mailmare. "Of course Rainbow Dash." Fishing in her saddlebags she produced two golden envelopes. "'ere yah 'o" "Omigosh!" Rainbow squealed before blasting around the room causing a prismatic tornado to form behind her. "Hehe she looks like Dinky on her birthday." Derpy chuckled. "Yes. Adorable." Rarity uttered with a cringe. The colourful squealing tornado was making such a lovely mess on the shop floor. "Welp I'm off, cya later!" Derpy shouted over to Rainbow dash who took no notice whatsoever. Rarity gave a tired wave before moving back to the rapidly disintegrating shop. *Sigh* "Rainbow darling!" Rarity cantered over to the base of the tornado. "Darling would you mind-" As she went to finish the sentence a nearby cupboard blew open throwing flowery plates, dainty cups and biscuits all over the place. Well it had finally caught up to her as after being woken up early and rudely, unable to perform her make-up rituals, unable to eat a proper breakfast or even have a nice cup of tea and then having her mane showered with the crumbs of twenty Jammy Dogers, Rarity lost her temper. "RAINBOW DASH!" With a brief blast of telekinesis she wrapped her magic around the tail of the offending pegasus and gave an almighty tug. "Whuh!" Rainbow stopped still and then clattered to the floor in a bout of pain and feathers. "Rarity! What the hay!" "What the hay! WHAT THE HAY!" Rarity's anger blossomed in a great surge of magical power. Moving forward and pressing her hoof into her friend. "Do I break into your house!" *POKE* "Ow." "Ruin your morning!" *POKE* "Ow!" "Before smashing all your stuff, huh!" *POKE* "Hay!" "Look at what you've done to my shop!" Rarity growled with a wave of her hoof. Rainbow sheepishly looked around the place and could see the mess of broken plates, cups, ribbons and various other pieces cloth that had been sprinkled everywhere. "Oh, oops..." Rainbow scuffed at the floor. "Sorry um-" "You will help me clean all this up and then you will pay for all the damages done to my cutlery. Understand!" Rarity bellowed with her horn lighting up threateningly. Rainbow nodded meekly not wishing to make the irate unicorn even more angry and began to pick through the wreckage but not before securing the tickets in her saddlebag. Rarity feeling her point was made clear enough to the cyan pegasus turned toward the closet to retrieve a broom. As she cantered away Rainbow began to place some of the non-broken plates back into the cupboard. At this she noticed an object that sat awkwardly on a busted shelf at the top of the cupboard. Retrieving it Rainbow was greeted to the sight of one the ugliest teapots ever. It was ugly even by Rainbow Dash's fashion sense with green and orange stripes flowing around a big pink heart in the centre. "Geez Rarity where'd you buy this thing!" Rainbow snickered while turning it over in her hoof. "Huh?" "Look at it! It's hideous!" Rainbow eyed it closer. *Gasp* "Rainbow No! Put that down-" A chink it the handle gave way and the pot fell away from the blue hoof. *CRUNCH* "Aw hay..." Rainbow closed her eyes and shuddered waiting for the inevitable rant coming her way. ... ... "...out" A whisper called over. "Huh?" Looking up she saw Rarity had dropped everything and stood over the remains of the ugly pot. "Get out..." Rarity whispered again. "Rarity look I'll pay for it all I promise. Besides its just a teapot-" Rainbow felt her breath taken away as she saw Rarity turn to her with great tears rushing down her face, hair smouldering, eyes turning a baleful green and a snarl eating at her voice. "Get out Rainbow. Get out before I get my hooves on you..." > "We're still friends...Right?" > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "So she kicked you out?" "Yea..." *Snort* "Well ah would'a done the same!" "I know..." "Breaking her stuff! What were'all thinkin?" "It was a bit mean Rainbow." "I said I was sorry..." The sun was setting and as it was lowered off the celestial plane a spectrum of gold and violet hues seeped across the sky. Rainbow Dash sat upon a cloud staring out into the rich gold, it was showered with the twinkling stars that only the on-coming night could bring. With a dejected sigh she began to replay the events of the day inside her head once more. It had started so well too. Whilst nuzzled in her cloudbed the young pegasus had spent the entire night wrapped in a dreamscape of high flying, death defying stunts that shamed even the impressive Wonderbolts. So much in fact that they made her a member of the team. After she had saved them all from a rampaging dragon of course. As she banked down from another one of her trademark Three Feather-Shuffles she could hear the roar of the crowd. "Oh Rainbow Dash you were so brave!" "Please bear my foals!" Bringing herself into a hover over the fawning public she began to bow and wave to her loving audience. "Thank you! Thank you!" She bellowed over the din of praise. "I love you all! However, I want you to know that the awesome Rainbow Dash has eyes for only one pony!" Settling down in front of a tall stallion adorned in a tight flight suit, she parted the sweat drenched multi-hued locks that plastered her face. "Hello Soarin." She uttered with a purr. He merely smiled and winked back at her. Cantering up to him she brushed a dark tangle of mane out of his face as she pulled him into a sloppy kiss. Far to soon though the roar of the crowd was replaced with the chirping of morning birds, the gorgeous stallion became a fluffy cloud before disintegrating into a brilliant sunburst of light and colour. Rubbing the sleep from her eyes she lamented that the dream couldn't get any further. Grabbing a quick hay sandwich and soda she had begun her early morning chores of cleaning the sky. Once the chores were done and she had checked that no other obligations wee expected of her, Rainbow Dash began her plan for the rest of the day. First stop, Rarity. Of course that's as far as she got with the plan seeing how it all went wrong with her dainty friend. Turning away from the oncoming moonrise Rainbow Dash flopped onto her belly as she began to eye Ponyville. She could feel the wind pick up speed as it tussled her mane, waving a prismatic flag in the sky. The sun completed its descent and the silver orb which in ages past was known as The Watchtower rose up the skyline drawing deep violets and blues into the seams of the cosmos. Despite the nights cool blue shadow encasing the land many ponies were still out and about. From her lofty vantage point she found her gaze being drawn back to the place where her friend lived. "Get out Rainbow. Get out before I get my hooves on you..." *Sigh* "She was really mad..." Forcing herself to look away she spied her friends Twilight Sparkle, Fluttershy and Applejack entering the Mushroom Plaza café. Rising off her fluffy cloud she shot off toward them seeing this as a great opportunity to talk to her other friends about what happened at the fashionista's home. "Well saying your sorry wus a good start but ah don't think it's gonna cut it this time sugarcube." Applejack uttered around the carrot salad she was munching on. "I don't get it though! Last month I broke all the glass in her house when I did that sonic rainboom! She was less mad about that than how mad she was today." Rainbow said dejected. "Well maybe she has just had enough." Applejack snorted. "I didn't mean it though." Rainbow sank low in her seat. "Aw, come on Dash." Twilight Sparkle lowered her daisy sandwich before sidling up to the depressed pegasus. "Its not that bad." "Yes it is." The cyan pegasus mumbled into the surface of the table. Fluttershy moved her potato salad out of the way when she reached for a blue hoof. "Rainbow you know how Rarity gets when she is stressed." Patting the hoof gently she continued. "Well Rarity has been working all week to fill so many orders, I haven't seen her this tense since the Grand Galloping Gala." "So what should I do?" "Just give her some time. You're one of her best friends Rainbow." Fluttershy issued a calming smile as she collected the food again. "Eeyup, just'd leave her alone for ah few days, then go back and apologize. You'all see, she won't stay mad forever." Applejack patted Rainbow on the back as Twilight nodded cheerfully. "Okay, but seriously though what got her so mad this time?" Stopping Twilight brought a hoof to her chin in a thoughtful gesture. "Well you said she was mad when you broke the plates but only got really mad when you broke that teapot." "Yea...so?" "So what if the teapot was really valuable." "That thing? But it was hideous!" Rainbow exclaimed. "That's not the point Rainbow." Fluttershy scolded. "Yes Rainbow, just because it was ugly to you doesn't mean Rarity didn't treasure it!" Twilight huffed. "Okay. So what kind of valuable are we talking? The kind that's gonna cost me a lot of bits or the kind that's gonna cost me a...friend..." Rainbow began to choke and sniffle. The reaction from the others at the table was telling as Applejack spat carrots out over the floor, Twilight began to choke on the daisy sandwich and Fluttershy began to tear up. "Oh no! No!" Twilight said quickly recovering. "That won't happen Rainbow." "You said it could of been really valuable..." Rainbow felt tears trickle down her muzzle. "You know I've got some valuable stuff that if somepony broke I'd be really, REALLY upset." *Sniff* "I know we're not that much alike but she still was one of my best friends! What if she doesn't wanna be friends anymore?" Seeing the distressed pegasus sink lower and lower Fluttershy flapped over the table bringing her friend into a hug. "Shh, come on, no matter what it is Rarity would never be so upset that she would not want to be your friend anymore." She cooed trying to sooth Rainbow's spirit. Seeing the pegasus so upset was a new experience for all involved. "Huh, Rarity must'a been ready to string her up to get her this upset." The apple farmer thought with a heavy sigh. "Aw shucks it can't be that bad." Applejack shuffled over and brought a hoof to Rainbows withers. "Ah know! Sweetie Belle is coming over tomorrow to play with Apple Bloom maybe ya'll could come over and talk to her 'bout it? She must know if it was valuable." Perking up and wiping tears from her face Rainbow uttered. "Really?" "Eeyup." The farmer said with a kind smile. "That sounds like a great idea!" Twilight Sparkle jumped to her hooves. "Don't worry Rainbow Dash we'll help you and Rarity make up. "Thanks you guys...I was worried that you might all get mad and abandon me..." Rainbow sniffled. "Oh Rainbow we know you didn't really mean to hurt her." Twilight smiled before a slight edge entered her gaze. "Still we're not happy Rainbow. You did do a bad thing and maybe you should try being more careful, Celestia knows how many times you've crashed into my library." Rainbow merely nodded sadly before Twilight's smile returned and she carried on. "So if you promise you'll be more careful with other ponies things, we'll be there for you. Okay?" "Okay." "Good! So lets all meet at Applejacks farm tomorrow at ten o'clock." Seeing the nods of conformation Twilight Sparkle began to finish her dinner. After saying goodnight to her friends, Rainbow Dash sped off back to her cloudhome and settled in for a much needed sleep. Well after making sure the tickets were still safe in her secret stash. Pulling the covers over her she began to toss and turn as doubt started to niggle back into her mind. "Stop. Your friends are going to help! All you gotta do is find out how much that teapot was worth and buy her a new one." The mind became shaky as sleep stole its way into her breath. "Twilight's right, if I make it up to her I have to be more careful in the future. Otherwise I might really hurt my friends." Her last thoughts returned to the dainty unicorn. "We're still friends...right?"
