Again. The orange filly, Scootaloo had been ‘rejected’ several times by her idol, Rainbow Dash. But this time was different and she didn’t know why. She could still clearly remember the words from the cyan pegasus. ‘Get out of here, alright?!’ Rainbow Dash had shouted. ‘Can’t you go somewhere else for once? Why don’t you just get your parents to teach you to fly, kid?’ In the back of her mind, Scootaloo knew why it had hurt so much, but she refused to acknowledge it. The orange pegasus now wandered through the streets of Ponyville with her head low to the ground. She shivered in the crisp winter air. She had been like this for a while and lost track of where she was going. It didn’t matter, though. Scootaloo just wanted the entire day to go away so she could forget all about what had happened. At the same time, the white unicorn mare, Vinyl Scratch, was striding through the small town, heading for her job at the local night club as a DJ. That evening was especially beautiful as she watched the sun set below the horizon. She had decided to take a longer route in order to enjoy it. Despite the cold, Vinyl walked at a slow pace, taking in the scenery as beautiful shades of deep purple and warm orange clashed and painted the skies. Her shades rested atop her horn so as not to corrupt the image before her with their purple tint. As she walked, however, something caught her eye. She saw another pony walking alongside the same street, which struck her as odd, the reason being that this particular street was normally deserted at that hour. Vinyl turned to see who it could be. Across the street from her, sulking with her head low to the ground, was a familiar orange pegasus filly with a violet mane. Vinyl recognized her from around town. She was always buzzing around town on her scooter or causing trouble somewhere else with her friends that called themselves… the Cutie Mark Crusaders? She was always following and idolizing the cyan mare pegasus, Rainbow Dash. ‘Geez, I can’t even remember her name,’ Vinyl thought. ‘Let’s see. Something with an ‘S’… Sca… Scoo… Scooter?... Scootaloo!’ Vinyl silently patted herself on the back for remembering the name she had probably only heard once. The orange filly across the street, however, looked crestfallen, which took Vinyl by surprise. She had always seen Scootaloo with a smile on her face, having fun or doing something crazy, but Vinyl had never seen her in a state like this before. Curiosity got the best of the alabaster unicorn and she deviated from her path to begin walking towards the filly. “Hey, kid. What’s up?” Scootaloo hadn’t noticed her approaching and jumped up with a squeak when she spoke up. “What the-! Oh uh… hi.” After calming down from her startled condition, she administered her previous depressed expression. “Hey. Scootaloo, right? The name’s Vinyl. Nice to meet ya.” Vinyl smiled and held out her hoof. “Oh. Nice to meet you too,” Scootaloo said without looking up, refraining from tapping her hoof to Vinyl’s. They stood in silence for a moment. “Um, so… What’s wrong? I’ve never seen you look this sad before,” Vinyl said, trying to relieve the awkward atmosphere. Scootaloo glanced up at her, and then moved her eyes back towards the ground. “Um, it’s nothing. Just… tired.” “Mmmhmm,” Vinyl hummed sarcastically. “C’mon you can tell me. I hate to see a happy filly like you be sad like this.” Scootaloo looked up at her again and sighed. “Well, it’s about Rainbow Dash,” Scootaloo started. “She kinda got mad and snapped at me… again.” Vinyl looked at the filly. “Ah, I see. So, she rejected you again, huh? I have a question, if you don’t mind. Why do you keep looking up to her if she just keeps looking down on you and rejects you?” She only took a moment to think about it. “It’s because every time I see somepony flying, they look so happy to be up high, like nothing can bother them or bring them down. I want to feel what they feel so much. But my wings are too small to even let me hover for more than a minute. So, I look up to Rainbow Dash and hope I can be like her someday… I guess.” She paused. “And she’s really fun, too. And the toughest pony ever!...” her voice trailed off. Vinyl was confused. “Well, that doesn’t explain why you’re so messed up over just one rejection. She was probably just blowin’ off steam, anyways.” Scootaloo nodded in understanding, but said, “I know, but this time was… different.” “Oh yeah? How so?” Scootaloo gave a pause and shook her head. “I-it’s nothing,” she stuttered frantically. She looked very troubled by something. Something more than what happened with Rainbow Dash. Noticing that she was crossing boundaries, Vinyl decided not to pry. But she couldn’t leave the normally happy filly just sulking by herself like this. She started back around to the path she was previously taking towards the night club, but not before turning to Scootaloo and saying, “Well, this just won’t do, now will it?” Scootaloo gave her a quizzical look. Vinyl just grinned. “C’mon, kid, follow me,” and she turned to keep walking, expecting the orange filly to follow her. Scootaloo, though still confused and uncertain, conformed and strung along behind the DJ. It wasn’t long before they reached their destination. It was the local night club, called Club Symphonic. It was the center of night life in Ponyville, which was surprising since it didn’t even have a bar. But if you ever went there, you’d see that ponies just went there to have a good time without alcohol or anything like that to ruin their night. It was also where Vinyl worked as a DJ. That was another reason why everypony loved it so much. Vinyl’s beats were on a whole other level than anypony else’s music. Standing at a distance, Scootaloo saw a huge line that she thought must’ve been over a block long. Everypony was waiting for DJ PON-3 to get things started. They approached the building that glowed with neon lights. “Wait here a sec,” Vinyl said, putting a hoof out in front of Scootaloo. She walked over to one of the bouncers and they talked for a moment, both of them glancing over to Scootaloo. When they were done the bouncer nodded and Vinyl came back over to Scootaloo with a smile on her face. “Alright, we’re good. You’re a little young, but everypony here knows I’m clean, so they won’t mind if you stay with me.” She grinned and motioned for Scootaloo to follow her again. They made their way past the ponies in line and weaved through the crowd. As the two entered, the filly sighed with relief at the warmth inside the building. The unicorn mare led Scootaloo up a short set of stairs and onto a small stage. At the front of the stage stood all of Vinyl’s sound equipment and everything she needed to drop her beats. Getting a closer look, Scootaloo realized that it was a lot more complex than she thought, various knobs, dials and switches riddled the board. Vinyl had adorned her shades for her performance, creating her persona, DJ PON-3. She did a quick check to make sure that none of the equipment was damaged or wasn’t working. When everything seemed to be in working order, she turned to the crowd and grabbed the microphone. “Hello Ponyville! You ready to get this thing started?!” she shouted. The crowd of ponies roared in response. “Alright! LET’S DO THIS!” Vinyl played her first track and the ponies on the dance floor began to move with the beat. The mass was perfectly synchronized with the music. Scootaloo stared in wonder as she saw every move that the dancers made was dominated by the beat of the song. The song ascended, reaching a climax, then it went silent and for that brief moment, the entire club froze. Scootaloo counted, 1… 2… 3… and the overwhelming bass dropped, shaking the entire room as the crowd shot back to life in that instant. The ponies went wild and danced to their hearts’ content as the song played on. As the song came to an end, Vinyl was grinning widely and preparing another record to spin. Scootaloo looked over to her and noticed a headset floating in front of her, surrounded by a purple aura. Vinyl smiled at her. “It can get a little loud in here. Try listening through these. It’ll sound a whole lot better, trust me.” Scootaloo nodded and grabbed the headset. The moment she put them on, all of the sounds from the outside ceased and silence washed over her. Even though she could still see what was going on, the roaring of the crowd, the bumping of bass, all of it became quiet. And then she heard it. Vinyl had begun to spin her new record and Scootaloo could hear it clearly through the headset. It began slowly with a smooth piano solo fading in. The solo was beautifully smooth and could make anypony feel as if they were drifting away on a soft, white cloud. A steady kick drum beat joined in without corrupting the beauty of the piano’s melody. Other electronic accompaniments blended in seamlessly. The song gradually grew with intensity, the piano being played with breathtaking passion. The music grew with a rapid crescendo, and then the bass dropped. It wasn’t an overwhelming rumble like the one from the previous song, however. This one was smooth as it reverberated throughout the room, playing in perfect harmony with the songs beautiful piano piece. As the pegasus filly listened to the song, she came to realize that, unlike other songs of its genre, this one was not one to cheer to or one to be played to a roaring, dancing crowd. It was a melody that one actually listened to without polluting it with other raucous noises. It was meant to be heard and truly enjoyed. It was beautiful. The ponies that were previously dancing realized this, too, and instead of going crazy with cheers and hollers, grabbed their partners and loved ones and began slowly circling the floor in an embrace. Scootaloo was in a trance. Without even noticing, she had begun to rock her head with the steady beat of the song. She glanced over to the white unicorn mare that had produced this beautiful symphony and saw that she was smiling down at her. Vinyl slowly lifted her head up as she closed her eyes. Scootaloo did the same and they drifted off into the music, forgetting all about her worries and troubles from earlier that day. A Couple Days Later Vinyl yawned into a scarf wrapped around her muzzle as she trotted through the dark and cold streets of Ponyville. It was late and she had just gotten through with another show at Club Symphonic. It was quite a party that particular night. ‘Man, that Pinkie Pie really knows how to party hard,’ Vinyl thought, giggling to herself. As she trotted home, she thought back to a couple nights ago, when she had let that orange filly into the club behind her set. Vinyl remembered how happy the filly had become after listening to her beats. She smiled at the thought, remembering back to when she was a filly listening to other ponies’ beats. Vinyl walked on, wrapping the scarf tighter around herself. She came to a corner and was about to continue across the road when she caught something out of the corner of her eye. It was a familiar orange shape. She quickly turned to get a better view and confirmed her suspicion. It was indeed Scootaloo that she had seen. She rounded a corner, though, and Vinyl quickly lost sight of her. She briskly trotted over to where the filly had been and peeked around the corner. There she was, just walking to who knows where. Vinyl normally would’ve said ‘hi’ to her newfound little friend, but she was just a little curious and decided to follow her instead. And so she did and the orange filly walked on in silence, thinking that she was alone. ‘What am I even doing? She’s probably just getting home late from a friend’s house or something. And I probably look like a freaking stalker right now,’ Vinyl thought to herself. But something was wrong. She couldn’t tell what, but there was something about this that gave her a bad feeling. So, she continued to stay on Scootaloo’s trail. Much to Vinyl’s dismay, it was a very long trail. All the way to Sweet Apple Acres, in fact. Scootaloo walked and Vinyl followed until they got to a far edge of the apple farm. She weaved through the trees, not stopping as she led the DJ pony into a small clearing with a big tree standing towards the middle of it. The unicorns gaze floated up from her hiding spot behind a tree. She saw a clubhouse sitting neatly atop the large tree’s branches. Her gaze shifted and she observed Scootaloo walking up the ramps that led to the treehouse’s entrance. Vinyl waited until she was inside before she followed. She went up the ramps as quietly as she could and crept over to the side of the small house to look through one of the small portals. She was a little more than shocked at what she saw. There in the middle of the hard, wooden floor of the treehouse sat a cold and shivering Scootaloo, wrapped up in a cape adorned with the CMC insignia. Vinyl didn’t know what to say, not that she was going to say anything, but she didn’t know what to think either. All she could think was, ‘Why?’ She watched as the filly in front of her whimpered in the cold as she curled herself in a tight ball in an attempt to keep warm. Vinyl was dismayed by the sight, her mouth hanging open in a gape. Just then, a horrible and unwanted thought involuntarily made its way into her mind. She had never seen Scootaloo with her parents. She was always with her friends. Never with any family. One of the things about living in a relatively small town is that you know everypony and everypony knows you. However, Scootaloo’s parents were two ponies that Vinyl had never even seen before. And this brought up the question: Do they even exist? Sure, she must talk about having family… but where are they? Dead. That word, that horrible word made its way into Vinyl’s thoughts. She tried to shake her head and erase it, but she couldn’t. She then began to consider that if it were true, then… ‘Then she’s alone.’ She saw the filly shudder once again and couldn’t stand it anymore. “Scootaloo,” she said. All in one movement, the orange filly squealed, jumped up and turned around, and backed up to the opposite wall to face the pony who had spoken her name. Scootaloo stared at Vinyl, gasping for breath after being so startled. Before she could say anything, Vinyl spoke up. “What are you doing in here?” she had a concerned expression on her face, her deep red eyes looking into Scootaloo’s own pale purple ones. “Vinyl! I-I-I… was just, um… thought I’d just stop by here… and…” Scootaloo stuttered. She couldn’t even find an excuse. “Scootaloo, why are you here?” This time, Vinyl said it with a more stern voice. Scootaloo recoiled at this, trying to back up further but just being held by the wall. Tears started to form in the corners of her. “Hey, now. Don’t cry, alright,” Vinyl said in her most comforting voice. She paused for a moment and sighed. “Alright. Come with me.” She began to walk towards the ramp. When Scootaloo didn’t follow, she turned back towards the entrance and said, “C’mon. We haven’t got all day.” The still disconcerted filly slowly rose to her feet and followed the unicorn down the ramps. The first moment that her hoof touched the ground, however, Scootaloo darted off in a direction in an attempt to run away. Vinyl, who was quite adept in her skill of using magic, simply grabbed the filly by the tail with a purple aura and set her back down on the ground next to her. “Don’t worry, kid. I’m not gonna try anything funny,” she smiled slightly. Scootaloo grumbled, realizing her defeat, and trailed beside Vinyl. The DJ used her magic to remove her own scarf and wrapped it around Scootaloo, recognizing how cold she must have been. “Thanks,” the filly mumbled. They walked for a little while in silence. Vinyl wanted to wait until they could relax to ask any questions. Scootaloo broke the long silence with huge yawn. Vinyl noticed that her eye lids had begun to droop and her pace was slowing. “Tired, huh?” the unicorn couldn’t help but smile as Scootaloo gave another loud yawn. “Here, how about this.” She lifted Scootaloo off of the ground with her magic and placed her on her back. The filly didn’t resist, or was just too tired to. “Thanks, Vinyl,” Scootaloo muttered as she rested her head on her ride’s electric blue mane. She remained like this as her breathing became rhythmic and Vinyl knew she was asleep. She smiled. ‘Huh, cute,’she thought. The rest of the way to the destination was short and she walked quietly and as smoothly as she could so as not to wake her passenger. Vinyl stopped as she arrived at their stop and unlocked the door to her home. After closing the door behind her, she quietly continued up the stairs to her guest bedroom. She made her way to the bed and set the sleeping filly down on it before using her magic to tuck her into the blankets. She didn’t wake up and instead just mumbled something in her sleep. When she was done, Vinyl smiled and left the room, silently sliding the door shut behind her and making her way to her own bed. She sprawled herself out on her bed, lying on her stomach. The distraught DJ went over the events that had just transpired in her mind. She sighed and drifted off to sleep, choosing to deal with it when the morning comes. > Chapter 2: With the Beats > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- My Little DJ Chapter 2: With the Beats By iDash An orange pegasus filly let her eyes flutter open as she woke up. She sat up in bed and looked around, and realized she had no idea where she was. It was a pretty empty room, one of the only things there was the bed that she sat on. There was a dresser in the corner with a mirror that was probably empty. Scootaloo closed her eyes as she tried to remember how she got there and the memory of Vinyl from last night came into her mind. Vinyl had found her in the clubhouse. This part was what brought Scootaloo down the most. What was she going to do now that they had discovered her? Vinyl had said to follow her. Scootaloo fell asleep and that was all she could remember. Scootaloo groaned as she got out of bed and headed towards the door, not bothering to fix her usually unkempt violet mane. She opened the door to the room and was about to walk out, but she stopped. Something she had heard caught her attention. It was a beautiful voice, singing. It seemed to come from down the stairs in the house. Scootaloo walked out slowly and quietly, not wanting to disturb the voice. Her ears perked up with every word. She didn’t know the song, but the mare’s voice flowed beautifully with every verse. It was unlike anything Scootaloo had ever heard before. It made her feel warm and happy inside, like everything was okay and nothing else mattered. She walked down the carpeted stairs in a trance and into what looked like a living room, but she didn’t pay attention. She had to find the source of that voice. As she progressed further, however, she noticed that the singing had stopped and was replaced with a familiar voice. “Oh, hey there, kiddo. ‘Bout time you woke up,” Vinyl said as she smiled at the filly. She was standing in the kitchen over a skillet. “Want some pancakes, kid?” Scootaloo looked over and saw that the unicorn had been making pancakes. The smell of the fluffy treat wafted to her nose, making her mouth water a little. She must’ve been paying too much attention to the singing to notice them. She brushed aside the thought of pancakes, though and turned her attention towards Vinyl. “Was that you singing just now?” “Eeyup. That’s right.” Vinyl flipped another pancake with a spatula held by her purple magic. Scootaloo’s expression brightened up, “That was amazing! I had no idea that you could sing like that.” Vinyl chuckled, setting some pancakes on a couple of plates, “Heh, thanks, kid. As a DJ, I’ve had to make my own vocals for my songs, so being able to sing is kind of a requirement.” The white unicorn set the plates on a table as she sat down and motioned for the filly to join her. The two sat in silence as they ate the pancakes, which were delicious in Scootaloo’s opinion. As she was eating, the pegasus looked all around her and took in her surroundings. She had never seen Vinyl’s house, but didn’t expect it to be this large. “I didn’t know that your house was so big,” Scootaloo said to her, still looking around. Vinyl chuckled, “Yeah, I used to share it with my old pal, ‘Tavi, but she moved out after a while. Couldn’t handle the wubs.” Scootaloo had no idea what she was talking about, but just accepted it and kept eating. There was more silence. She didn’t notice that Vinyl had stopped eating until she spoke up. “So, about last night…” her voice trailed off as she looked at the filly. Scootaloo’s expression quickly turned sullen as the inevitable finally came. “W-what about it?” she said, trying to remain vague. “Well,” Vinyl started in a sarcastic tone. “I remember a lot of walking, Sweet Apple Acres, a treehouse, and… well, I think you know what happens after that.” “Oh…” Scootaloo didn’t know what to say. She knew she couldn’t lie. “It’s because…” The next five words hit Vinyl like a punch in the gut, and they hurt just as much. “I don’t have a home.” They sat there in another torturing silence. Scootaloo’s pale purple eyes had begun to get watery. Vinyl was afraid to ask the next question, but she had to know the answer. “Where… where are your parents?” A tear threatened to escape the filly’s eyes, but she did her best to hold them back. She looked to the pale white unicorn in front of her. Something about her told Scootaloo she could trust her. And so, she told her story. “I… I’m an orphan. I never knew my father because he walked out on my mom before I was born. And my mom… she- she got really sick and died when I was young, so they sent me to an orphanage. I lived there for five years and I hated it. Everybody treated me like trash there and they abused me, so I ran away. I came here and lived by myself. I even enrolled myself into school so that no one would suspect me try to send me back to the orphanage.” As Scootaloo finished her story, a tear rolled down her cheek. Vinyl was bewildered by the story she had just heard, her mouth hanging open in a gape. When she saw the tear on the pegasus filly’s muzzle, she quickly stood up and rushed to the other side of the table. She rested a forehoof on Scootaloo’s shoulder and wiped the tear away with the other. “Hey now, don’t cry. Come on, it’ll be alright.” Vinyl tried her best to soothe the crestfallen filly in front of her. “So, there you go. That’s why I was in the treehouse. Because I don’t have a home.” “You haven’t told any of your friends yet, have you?” Vinyl suspected that she hadn’t told anyone, since no one has tried to help her. “No, I don’t want them to find out,” she said without looking at Vinyl. “So, I’m just going to have to keep sleeping there.” “No, you’re not.” Vinyl would absolutely not let the poor filly sleep out in the cold all alone. “W-what?” Scootaloo stuttered, looking into her deep red eyes. “I said you’re not going to sleep there anymore. I can’t stand to see you like that.” Scootaloo had a look of confusion on her face. “Well, then how am I-?” “You can stay here,” Vinyl said without hesitation. “I-… what?” She now stared at the unicorn in disbelief. “You heard me. If you’re not gonna tell anypony else, then you can stay here with me. Besides, winter’s comin’ up and I get the feeling you don’t want to sleep through that in a treehouse.” Vinyl smirked. She smiled at the look of joy that spread across the filly’s face as Scootaloo shot out of her chair and hugged. “Thank you, Vinyl.” Vinyl just chuckled, “Don’t mention it, kid.” *******~<---------------->~******* The four months since that time passed quickly. Though, they spent most of the winter inside. During the time, the two grew quite close, wasting no time getting to know each other. They had a lot of fun as well. Vinyl often let Scootaloo into the club with her to enjoy the music as she played it. She started to teach Scootaloo how to use the set. The filly was a natural at it. It didn’t take her long to get the hang of things after she boosted the bass a little too loud and blew out more speakers than her mentor could count. This normally wouldn’t have bothered Vinyl, but more than half of the windows weren’t hers. Nonetheless, she didn’t stop laughing about it until days after. It always made Vinyl happy to see the look of joy splayed on the filly’s face whenever Vinyl taught her or whenever she got to play. Scootaloo still hung around her friends and kept the CMC thing going, but started spending a lot of time with Vinyl. Over the winter, without her noticing, her wings had grown considerably to the point where they no longer buzzed as she rode her scooter. Instead, they made a soft, fluttering sound. It was a day after Winter Wrap-up that year when she and Vinyl decided to chill at the park, enjoying the new warmth. Scootaloo had taken note of her grown wings and stood in the middle of the park with the DJ pony watching. With one solid thrust of her wings, she shot straight into the air. It took her a moment to recover from her initial surprise, but when she regained balance, she realized that she was easily hovering in the air above Vinyl. The look of sheer joy that she had in her eyes was almost indescribable. In celebration of her achievement, they bought out all the sweets they could find at Sugarcube Corner and gorged themselves on the treats. As a special surprise that night, Vinyl took her to the club and gave her the honors of DJ’ing the first track for the night. During that whole period of time, from winter to spring, Scootaloo had almost completely forgotten about her trouble with Rainbow Dash, the mare she used to look up to. She sometimes wondered why she would look up to somepony who always rejected her like that. It didn’t matter, though. She had found another role model in Vinyl. They had grown so close that Scootaloo now saw her as something like a mother, and she had the feeling that Vinyl saw their relationship as something like that, too, seeing Scootaloo as her daughter. Why wouldn’t the filly feel that way, though? Vinyl had watched over her and taken care of her when nopony else bothered to notice her turmoil. She was so glad to have met her. It was a warm spring day when Scootaloo rode her scooter into town. There was no longer any need for the scooter, seeing as she could fly the short distance to her destination, but it felt comfortable to ride it still, so she did. She was headed to Sugarcube Corner to pick up some sweets for a movie night that her and Vinyl had planned a while ago. The sweets in question would be a cake that she herself had made the previous day, with the help of Pinkie Pie, of course who was holding it for her. She was going to use it to surprise Vinyl that night. In no time at all, Scootaloo arrived at Ponyville’s best stop for treats and walked in. Her heart skipped a beat as she stopped in front of the doorway, though. Right there, not ten feet in front of her, stood Rainbow Dash, who she hadn’t seen for the entirety of the winter. Rainbow Dash quickly noticed her as the bells on the door jingled. “Hey Scootaloo!” Pinkie Pie hollered, bouncing behind a counter. “You’re probably here for the cake, huh. Uno momento! Let me get it really quick.” She trotted off happily towards the back of the small shop. Rainbow’s face brightened up, “Oh, hey there, squirt. Long time, no see, huh?” she said, still smiling. “So, how’s my #1 fan been? Haven’t seen ya around during my practices for a while.” “Hey… Rainbow Dash.” “Aw man, you should’ve seen the last trick I pulled off! It would blow your mind…” Rainbow continued to boast about her flying as the orange filly remained in relative silence. Was this it? Rainbow wasn’t even making an attempt at apologizing. Did she even remember about the day that she had hurt Scootaloo? Did she even care? Pinkie Pie returned, bouncing, from the back. Neither of the other ponies present had any idea how she managed to bounce like that while balancing the cake perfectly on her head. Nor did they understand how she could set it down so gently without it toppling. “Here’s your cake Scoots! So, are you having that movie night thing with Vinyl tonight?” Rainbow Dash looked over with a curious look on her face. “Hm? So, you’ve been hanging out with Vinyl Scratch?” Scootaloo hesitated a moment before simply replying, “You could say that.” She was hesitant to even speak with Rainbow Dash, let alone inform her of her current personal life. She grabbed the cake, which was in a clear glass case, off of the counter with her teeth. “Hmmmm. Well, anyways,” Rainbow started, brushing off the vague reply without any concern. “I got that new trick down pat. You want to go to the park or something and see it?” more frustration was building up inside the filly. When she didn’t answer, Rainbow Dash just grinned, nudging Scootaloo with her hoof. “I bet ya can’t wait, huh?” “No.” “Yeah, I-… Wait, what?” Rainbow was taken aback by the filly’s response. The Scootaloo she knew would never even miss a chance to talk to Rainbow Dash, let alone see a new stunt. “I said ‘no’, Rainbow.” Scootaloo turned to the bewildered mare with an angry look plastered across her face. She had had enough of this. “I don’t care anymore, so just do it by yourself.” With the cake, she walked to the entrance of the shop and set it down on her scooter before saying one last thing to the cyan mare, “I don’t care, so just disappear, Rainbow.” With that, she shot off on her scooter leaving behind a very confused and even hurt Rainbow Dash. The pegasus filly wasn’t the only one having a bad day. A certain pale unicorn mare had just returned home that night after a very stressful talk with her boss. He had just ‘kicked her out’. Well, he had actually sent her on a small vacation with pay, but ‘kicked out’ is how she saw it. The reason for his actions frustrated her, too. For the past month or so, she had been trying her hardest to make new material for her performances, since, lately her usual stuff had become mundane to the ponies she played for every night. No matter what she did, however, she couldn’t produce anything that was worth playing at the club. As she reached her home, Vinyl hastily unlocked and threw open the door, stomping in and slamming it behind her as hard as she could without breaking the hinges. This all came as much of a surprise to the pegasus filly who had been sitting down on the couch, but had bolted up with surprise and Vinyl barged in. Scootaloo had not expected her home this early… or this angry. Vinyl noisily made her way to the kitchen, angrily muttering to herself as she went. She flung open the fridge door and pulled out a pitcher of water. A cup surrounded by a hazy purple aura floated out of one of the cupboards. The DJ poured herself a glass and chugged it down without stopping and poured herself another, this time taking it a little slower. Scootaloo crouched on the other side of the sofa, her eyes peeking over the top. She was a little hesitant to speak, but eventually began after she thought that unicorn had calmed down enough. “U-um… hey, Vinyl?” “What?” the alabaster unicorn bluntly replied. Scootaloo cringed a little at this. “Do you, uh… wanna start the movie or something? I-I got some sweets from Pinkie that we could have.” Vinyl sighs as she lifts her shades off of her head with magic and sets them on a countertop. She shakes her head in irritation, rubbing her eyes, “Not right now.” No further explanation was provided. They stood in silence until Scootaloo piped up. “But… I-I thought you said we could-” she was quickly cut off, though. Vinyl turned around quickly to face the other pony. “Yeah, I did say that, but now I’m saying, ‘Not. Right. Now!’” She harshly snapped at the poor filly. The DJ noticed and tried to tone it down a bit. “I’ve had a really bad day, OK?” Scootaloo didn’t know how to respond to the outburst, so she responded with the only thing she had seemed to be feeling all day. Anger. She stood up from the couch and settled in front of Vinyl. “You know, you don’t have to be such a jerk just because you had a bad day.” Vinyl bitterly chuckled at this before taking another swig of her water. “Whatever. You try having as horrible a day as mine, and then try saying that.” Scootaloo was offended but tried not to show it. She was mad now. “Well, what if I have?” “Huh, I doubt it.” That was it. “You know what, Vinyl? I’ve had a pretty bad day, too! So you should just stop moping about it! I’ve been miserable all day, and all I wanted to do was just watch a movie-!” Vinyl snapped back angrily in return before thinking about what she was saying. “Well then go cry about it to your freaking mommy-?!” Uh-oh. Her hoof shot up to her muzzle, but she couldn’t stop herself soon enough. Scootaloo said nothing, but glared at Vinyl with tears coming to her eyes. “Scootaloo, I-” She started, but instead of listening, Scootaloo darted past her and up the stairs to her room, a trail of tears following behind her. Vinyl didn’t do anything. She just sat and stared at the ground where Scootaloo stood a moment ago. ‘Geez, I really bucked up this time,’ she thought to herself. She sighed. ‘Well, time for my heartfelt apology.’ She turned to put the pitcher of water away and opened the fridge. She was about to shut the door again, but stopped. Something caught her eye that she was too furious to notice before. A rectangular glass case sat on the bottom shelf of the fridge. Curious, she pulled it out a bit with her magic and knelt down to examine it. It was a cake, electric blue just like her mane. It was very well designed, too. In the center of the cake, a picture was painted in frosting. It was two ponies, a small filly and a mare, holding each other in a tight embrace. They unmistakably resembled herself and Scootaloo. Vinyl didn’t know what to make of it, and then she saw a note on the front of the glass case. The piece of paper was neatly folded and had her name written on it. She lifted and unfolded it with her magic to hold it in front of her face and she read: Vinyl, Thank you. Thank you for everything you have done for me. You gave me a home, a bed, you gave me a roof over my head. You fed me and cared for me. You guarded me from the cold. You supported me when I thought nopony else would. You held me when I thought I was all alone. You made me happy when I just wanted to break down and cry. I opened up to you with my deepest secret and you accepted me. You could’ve turned away, Vinyl. You could’ve left me cold, hungry, and alone, but you didn’t. You shared your love with me, even though I didn’t even deserve it. Every day, I think about how lucky I am for you to have found me. How lucky I am to have somepony like you. There is no way that I can say thank you enough, so I made you this cake, too. I hope you like it. But again, thank you so much for being there for me. Love, Scootaloo Vinyl read the note over and over again, each time slower. Her heart broke. She couldn’t believe it, shifting glances from the cake to the letter. She felt a solemn tear form in her ruby eyes. ‘Oh, Celestia. What have I done?’ Without a second thought, she dropped the letter and rushed up the stairs as quickly as her legs would carry her. “Scootaloo!” she exclaimed, knocking on her door. There was no answer. “Scootaloo, please. Open up.” Still no answer. “Alright. I’m comin’ in now.” She took a step back, turned around, and bucked at the door with her hind legs, breaking part of the wood frame and almost removing the door from its hinges. She darted inside and looked around. Scootaloo wasn’t there. Her eyes quickly shifted around the room and she found what she was looking for. The window to the second story bedroom stood wide open, the fresh air flowing through it. ‘Crap,’ Vinyl thought as she ran out of the room and back down the stairs. She hastily opened the door and rushed out, not bothering to even close it behind her, and began to look for Scootaloo. Though, she already knew where she was. She was here. In front of her stood a familiar treehouse in a distant part of Sweet Apple Acres. It was quiet, but Vinyl knew that the pony she was looking for was up there. She placed her hoof on the ramp and slowly made her way up, cringing at the sound of each loud creak. As she came closer to the entrance, she began to here short, quiet gasps. Her mind made the connection and she knew what was going on. Scootaloo was crying. Alone. It hurt her to hear this, but she continued on. Vinyl reached the entrance and opened the door to go in. In the middle of the floor sat Scootaloo, wrapped up in a CMC cape and her head in her forehooves. Her back rose and fell as sharp breaths escaped her. She heard Vinyl walk in but didn’t bother to raise her head. “G-go away,” she said with a shaky voice between sobs. The words hurt Vinyl, but she didn’t stop. The unicorn sat on her haunches in front of the filly. She pulled the sobbing Scootaloo into a tight hug, letting her cry into her arms. Scootaloo didn’t resist. Instead, she returned the embrace and continued to shed tears into Vinyl’s coat. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry, Scootaloo,” Vinyl croaked out, stroking the filly’s mane to try and calm her down. She let a single tear fall from her eyes. “Please, don’t cry.” Vinyl was angry, but she was angry at herself. She hated herself for hurting Scootaloo like this. And it hurt her to see the filly like this. She felt so stupid and senseless for treating her like she did. And in the end, all she could say was ‘sorry’. She could only imagine the pain that Scootaloo had been going through and hated herself for making her go through more. They sat there for a while, losing track of time while Scootaloo cried and Vinyl held her in a warm hug. Eventually, the sobs began to subside and she began to calm down, but still clung to Vinyl. Her breathing became steady. She was about to fall asleep. She muttered one thing, however, before nodding off. “Thank you.” Vinyl smiled and waited until she was fast asleep to move. She got up and carefully lifted the sleeping filly onto her back with her magic. Just like the night she had first taken her in, Vinyl carried Scootaloo to her home, the filly nuzzling her mane as she slept. She walked up the soft stairs and into her passenger’s room and set her gently down on the bed. Vinyl tucked her in while simultaneously shutting the open window. Before returning to her own room, she turned to Scootaloo, who was smiling in her sleep. She knelt down and gently kissed her on the forehead, just like a mother would to her child, and went to bed, lightly closing the broken door behind her. > Chapter 3: My Little DJ > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- My Little DJ Chapter 3: My Little DJ By iDash As a special gift to Scootaloo, Vinyl had given her the offer of helping make her new material. The filly was absolutely overjoyed when she heard this and was pretty much about to faint when Vinyl said she’d let her make and perform her own track for the premier night. Vinyl was glad to see Scootaloo so happy. That day, the white unicorn was on her way to her favorite sound equipment shop for some new records. Her and Scootaloo had scratched the hay out of their previous ones. It was a pretty nice day out. Celestia’s sun was high up in the sky, letting everypony bask in its warmth. Vinyl adorned her purple spectacles as she trotted through town. “Watch out!” A sudden shout came from somewhere to her side. “Huh?” She started to turn around, but wasn’t fast enough to respond as something collided with her and she was flung to the ground. She sat up on her haunches in the soft dirt, coughing to clear her throat of some of the dust in the air. “Aaaawww,” a groan escaped a pony next to her. “That wasn’t very smart.” “You’re tellin’ me, pal,” Vinyl was standing up now, brushing the dirt off of herself. She lifted up her shades, which were lying on the ground next to her, and set them on her head. “What the hay were you-” She stopped when she saw the cyan blue form in a heap next to her. “Rainbow Dash?” Rainbow stood up and shook the dirt out of her mane before turning to the speaker. “Oh! V-Vinyl Scratch,” she stuttered, surprised for some reason. “Um, how’s it goin’?” “Uh… good. What about you?” “It’s… going good, I guess.” Rainbow put on a small smile. They stood in silence for a few moments, though it seemed like much longer. Rainbow pawed at the ground gently while Vinyl tried to figure out why she was acting like that. Rainbow eventually spoke up and broke the silence, “Hey, Vinyl… can I ask you something?” “Sure thing, Dash. What’s up?” Rainbow paused another moment, not looking the other mare in the eyes. “Well, it’s about Scootaloo…” “Oh.” Vinyl’s face fell. She had been hoping that this wouldn’t happen, but it was. Rainbow ignored the look on her face and continued. “Well, the last time I saw her… I don’t know. She just got really mad for some reason and took off. I heard that she was hanging around with you a lot lately, so I thought you might know.” Rainbow looked at the DJ unicorn, waiting for an answer. The way Rainbow spoke about her and Scootaloo told Vinyl that she had no idea what was really going on or what the filly was going through. “Yeah, about that. She’s… well, she’s been living with me for a while.” Rainbow took a step back. This latest revelation surprised her. “Living with-? Wait, why?” Vinyl looked up to Rainbow with her ruby eyes. She wondered if she could tell Rainbow Dash, then she thought how, if anypony should know, it should be her. She took a deep breath and began, “Because she’s an orphan, Dash.” Her voice lowered to almost a whisper that time. Rainbow stared at her blankly seeming not to have been able to process the information given to her. Her mouth hung slightly open, but no sound escaped. She finally managed to utter a single confused, “What?” Vinyl said it again to get through to her, “Rainbow, she’s an orphan. She’s been living with me because she has- well, had no home.” The realization finally seemed to hit Rainbow, her hind hooves giving way for a second without her trying to remain upright. Instead, she softly fell to her haunches, still looking into the eyes of the mare in front of her. Vinyl sat down with her and stared into magenta eyes. It was about time she knew about Scootaloo. And so, she told her. She told her everything, about how she found her one night in the treehouse, how Scootaloo became an orphan, how Rainbow had hurt her. The last part seemed to concern her the most as everything she had been wondering about came together and she realized the impact of her actions. “Oh my gosh. I-I had no idea.” Rainbow said, staring at the ground. Vinyl, who was now standing up, just looked at her without responding. She hated to admit it, and she didn’t know why, but she felt a little resentment towards Rainbow. She knew it was because she had hurt Scootaloo, a lot, even if she hadn’t known at the time. Rainbow looked up to her with a distressed look written across her face. “Vinyl, how can I make this up to her?” “I don’t know, but an apology would be a great place to start,” Vinyl said bluntly. She didn’t want to spend any longer here. “Look, Rainbow Dash,” she started as she turned in the direction of the music shop. “She’s gonna be performing for the first time at Club Symphonic in a couple of weeks. If you want to make amends, come to her performance, cheer her on and apologize there. If you don’t want to, then don’t bother to try and fix what you did.” And in a huff, Vinyl left, and once again, Rainbow was left behind, bewildered. Scootaloo rushed through the house once again. “Alright! Is everything set up everypony? We gotta hurry! Vinyl will be here any minute!” Today was a special day. It was Vinyl’s day. In fact it was her birthday. The mare had been so busy with her new tracks that she had forgotten all about it. Scootaloo, however, had not. She had organized a surprise party for the birthday mare. All of Vinyl’s friends were invited, even Octavia, who had agreed to come under the condition that there would be no ‘wubs’. Octavia had shuddered when she said the word and Scootaloo couldn’t help but giggle. She had gotten Pinkie Pie to help, of course. She was probably the best party pony in all of Equestria. The front door then burst open and Lyra ran in. “Everypony, Vinyl’s coming!” Scootaloo grinned. “Alright, take your positions!” Everypony hurried to a hiding spot and Lyra shut off the lights. There was a small crash somewhere in the dark, which was probably Ditzy Doo, but she managed to stay quiet eventually. Scootaloo heard the door creak open and her ears perked up. She waited, almost squealing as she did. “Hey, Scoots, I’m home!” Vinyl shouted into the quiet house. She flipped the lights on and flipped out herself after what transpired next. “SURPRISE!” everybody jumped up out of the hiding spots while Vinyl jumped about a good five feet in the air. “Happy birthday!” everypony shouted simultaneously. “What the-” Vinyl started, then the realization struck her. “I- Oh, no way! I totally forgot!” While a grin was plastered on her face, a certain pink pony rolled a cannon into the middle of the room. Classic Pinkie Pie. “Let’s get this party started, everypony!” Pinkie shouted before setting off the cannon. The party went off with bang… literally. They would be cleaning confetti off the walls for weeks. Everypony enjoyed themselves, dancing, singing or just catching up with old times. The cake was huge- a Pinkie Pie special. Everypony actually had to take a huge portion of it home with them since it wouldn’t fit in Vinyl’s fridge. Vinyl opened various presents as well, except for one from Scootaloo, which the filly was saving. Scootaloo had finally gotten Vinyl all alone. Excited, she pulled out the gift from behind her and handed it to Vinyl with her teeth. “Hm? What’s this?” Vinyl asked. “Just open it already,” Scootaloo giggled. Vinyl unwrapped the bow around it and slowly ripped away the blue wrapping paper. Hidden inside was a record, but it wasn’t just any record. This one was special. A picture of a trumpet with a soft flow of written musical notes illustrated the cover. Right above the picture, in blue letters and gold outline, it read, ‘Swing Blue’. An old jazz record was all it meant to anypony else, but to Vinyl it was an old jazz record that held so many precious memories. The song, Swing Blue, which was also the record’s namesake, was Vinyl’s favorite song ever since she was a filly. Her father would always play it for her on his trumpet. She remembered how they would dance to the song over and over before falling over, laughing. She cherished the song. Vinyl looked from the record to Scootaloo and back again. “Well, do you like it?” Scootaloo had a grin on her face. Vinyl couldn’t stop smiling. She wrapped a hoof around Scootaloo’s shoulder and drew her into a small hug. “I love it, kiddo.” The party eventually subsided. After every other pony had left, only two remained. Those two sat outside and looked up at Luna’s beautiful, starry sky. The filly was leaning up against the older mare, resting her head on the mare’s arm. Vinyl gazed at the moon. This night, this feeling. It took her back. Back to when she was a filly. When her mother and father would sit out with her just like this. How her mother would always sing. “Hey, Scoots?” “Yeah, Vinyl?” She paused, “Did your… did your mom ever take you out to gaze at the stars like this?” Scootaloo continued to look longingly at the sky, and then she spoke, “I… can’t really remember if she did. But I’ve watched it a few times by myself. It looks amazing.” “Yeah…” Vinyl trailed off as she admired the skies once again. “When we watched it, my mom would always sing me a song. It was a lullaby and it always made me feel warm and happy inside. It was kind of sad, but I still liked it.” She looked to the filly, “Do you want to hear it?” Scootaloo’s face quickly brightened up, “Of course I do! Your singing’s amazing.” Vinyl chuckled, “Heh, alright, then. Here goes.” Vinyl cleared her throat. Scootaloo moved over and nestled herself against her until she was comfortable. She closed her eyes and waited for the mare to begin. Vinyl took a deep breath and she began. Red moon, red moon, Why are you sighing? Because I’ve lost my child, Though, I can still hear her crying. Scootaloo’s ears perked up as she recognized the song. Her teacher had sung it once to her class. It was about a mother and her child. It was a a relatively short song, but she didn't mind. Red moon, red moon, Where have you gone? Into the heavens above So she may hear my song. Vinyl’s voice flowed smoothly like honey through each verse, filling Scootaloo with a warm happiness. It was amazing how well she could sing. Red moon, red moon, Why are you so happy? Because my child is singing And I know she still loves me. While she listened, Scootaloo also thought, about her and Vinyl. She was so glad that the mare had found her. So glad that she had taken her in and care for her. So glad to have someone she could truly look up to. So glad to no longer be alone. Red moon, red moon, Will you be okay? Yes, for I still love her, And in my heart, she shall stay. As the lullaby came to an end, neither pony moved. Neither one wanted to. Instead, they remained how they sat, content with how things were and both wishing that the moment would last forever. A single tear had rolled down Scootaloo’s cheek. The song reminded the filly about her own mother, how much she missed her, how alone she had been. But none of that mattered now, because she had Vinyl. *****~<-------------------->~***** This was it. It was the night everypony in Ponyville had been waiting for. Tonight was the debut premier of DJ PON-3’s brand new beats and every partygoer in Ponyville was attending. This meant something else to a certain orange pegasus filly, though. Tonight would be Scootaloo’s first performance. Her and Vinyl were waiting backstage for all of the ponies to file into the club. Scootaloo was trembling with excitement. She was nervous, but at the same time, she was so excited. She couldn’t keep the wide grin off of her face. Vinyl was standing to the side, watching Scootaloo. She was just as excited as the filly was about this night, and she didn’t doubt for a second that Scootaloo wouldn't disappoint the ecstatic crowd. She had become quite the adept little disk jockey. Vinyl was proud of her. “Hey, kiddo. Come over here for a sec,” Vinyl spoke to Scootaloo. The filly gladly trotted over to her music mentor. “What is it, Vinyl?” The mare smiled, “I just wanted to say how proud I am. You’re gonna do great out there, alright kiddo?” Scootaloo grinned and hopped in place. “You bet! I’m so excited!” Vinyl couldn’t help but laugh, “Hahah, I know, I know. Chill out for a sec. There’s something I want to give you.” Scootaloo gave her a quizzical look as her horn glowed a soft purple and out from behind her floated a small, black, rectangular box that was surrounded by the same aura. “Here ya go, kid.” The filly looked at the box, confused. “Um… what is it?” “Well, why don’t you open it and see?” Vinyl smirked. Scootaloo giggled and slowly nudged the box open on the ground. She gasped as she observed what was inside. Sitting comfortably in the box on top of soft red padding rested a shimmering pair of custom-made sunglasses. The spectacles were clean and black rimmed with metallic orange lenses in the sockets. Scootaloo was speechless as she gazed at her new gift. “I-it’s… m-my…my own shades.” “That’s right,” Vinyl said with a smile. “Well? Do you like them?” The filly looked to her with a grin that rivaled even Pinkie Pie’s. She lunged at Vinyl with a hug, shouting, “I love them! Thank you!” “You’re welcome, Scoots.” She held the filly until she finally had to break the embrace. “Alright, now try ‘em on and get ready. It’s time to start the show.” Vinyl got up and ruffled Scootaloo’s purple mane with her hoof before equipping her own glasses and heading past the backstage curtains and onto the platform that held her set and sound equipment. The crowd went wild as they saw their favorite DJ on stage once again. The DJ did a quick check for everything to make sure it was all ok. She got up and adjusted all her settings. The record she had selected to begin the night floated up in the soft purple aura and set itself on the tables. Before she got things going, however, she looked around for a light blue form that she had been anticipating. And there it was. Sitting against one of the near walls so as not to get caught in the crowd, stood the rainbow maned pegasus, Rainbow Dash. Vinyl smirked. ‘I knew you wouldn’t miss this,’ Vinyl thought. She took a deep breath. ‘Alright, DJ PON-3. Show me what you’ve got.’ And the record spun. A few songs later and the frenzied crowd of ponies was cheering until their hooves hurt and still kept cheering. Tonight was truly bliss for those anticipating the new material. They were ready and all pumped up now, which meant that it was Scootaloo’s turn. Vinyl grabbed the mic in front of her, “Are you psyched Ponyville?!” A wave of jubilant shouts and whistles erupted from the ponies. “That’s what I’m talkin’ about! Alright, since tonight’s an important night, we’re gonna give you a little something special!” She took a few steps back and began to gesture towards the curtains behind her. “Everypony, time to give it up for our newest little disk jockey, DJ F1LL-3!” On cue, Scootaloo burst out of the curtains as Vinyl announced her with her new stage-name. The crowd went wild once again. She eagerly trotted over to the set, giving Vinyl a smile as she passed. She had on her brand new set of shades and seemed brimming with excitement. Vinyl went to stand against the nearby wall to watch Scootaloo’s performance. Scootaloo wasted no time setting up and got out the record she was about to use, and then put it on and let it spin. She began her new beats with full determination. Through the loud speakers, a violin slowly began its solo, entrancing the listeners. A kick-snare abruptly, yet smoothly, jumped in, shocking the ponies as they began to rock to the steady beat. Not very long after, several electronic supplements appeared, joining in perfectly with the beat and tempo of the music. This is when Vinyl observed the pony playing in front of her. Scootaloo’s look of joy was amazing. Vinyl had never seen her this happy before. She watched as the last doubts, not only of her, but of every single pony in the room, were erased. The newly formed sounds perfectly complimented the excitement of the escalating pace of the violin and drums. The violin’s melodies flourished as the music grew into a crescendo. The music built towards a pinnacle. When it reached its peak Scootaloo halted the music, letting it echo throughout the room. Everypony froze. Vinyl counted with her eyes closed, ‘1… 2… 3…’ With a beaming smile, Scootaloo cried, “DROP IT!” She let the record go and the bass dropped. ‘Perfect.’ The crowd went wild and shot into movement once more. The ecstatic ponies in the club got high on the blissful reverberation of the intense bass. Even the filly that was playing couldn’t stop herself from jumping to the beat. She had never been more thrilled in her life. Vinyl gave a loud whoop with wide smile plastered on her face. She looks to Scootaloo and the smile is replaced with an expression of sheer amazement. “Scootaloo!” she shouted over the loud music. The filly turned to the unicorn speaking to her with a puzzled expression. “Look!” Vinyl pointed to Scootaloo’s flank. Scootaloo looked down and immediately gave an audible gasp, her eyes widening to the size of dinner plates. There, sitting on either side of her flank, adorned a sleek black, spinning record with an orange wing sprouting out of the center. Her cutie mark! For what seemed like a very long time, Scootaloo didn’t even move and just stared. She finally snapped out of her daze and jumped up and shouted, “THIS IS THE BEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE!” Vinyl couldn’t help but feel overwhelming joy in her heart for the little filly. She was so glad to see Scootaloo be truly happy. As her song played on, it was humorously ironic how Scootaloo cheered louder than anypony else. Just like all great things do, the party finally came to an end. The two jubilant performers went through wave after wave of congratulations, compliments, and pats-on-the-back. One mare waited until all of the other ponies were gone, though, and the cyan pegasus finally made her way to the DJ’s. “Hey, Scootaloo,” Rainbow Dash said as she approached the filly. Scootaloo jumped, a little shocked that somepony was still there. “Oh! Um… Rainbow Dash… What’s up?” “I uh… I wanted to say congratulations, squirt. It was really great. And that’s a pretty sweet cutie mark, too.” “Y-you saw it? T-thanks, Rainbow.” Vinyl watched from the side, smiling as Rainbow spoke to Scootaloo. “Yeah… And- Look, Scootaloo. I… I just wanted to say, ‘I’m sorry’. Vinyl talked to me the other day and told about what you had been going through… about how I had hurt you. I had no idea, Scoots. I’m so sorry. Can you forgive me?” Scootaloo stood there, her mouth agape and staring at the mare in front of her. She couldn’t believe it. Rainbow Dash was apologizing. Rainbow Dash! She didn’t know what to say, and then she realized what Rainbow was trying to say. A warm smile grew across her face. “Yes, I forgive you, Rainbow.” Scootaloo was so happy because of what she was hearing from the mare. “Wow,” Vinyl piped up. “Rainbow Dash is apologizing. I never thought I’d live to see that day.” She smirked. “You’re such a soft pony, Dash,” She said, nudging her on the shoulder. “Yeah, yeah. Whatever.” Rainbow said as she rolled her eyes. She was still smiling, though. “Alright, well, I gotta go. Congratulation, guys. And um… thank you for being able to forgive me, Scootaloo.” Scootaloo just smiled up to the pegasus. “No problem, Dash.” Rainbow gave one last smile and nod, then walked out and took off into the sky. After she left, Vinyl and Scootaloo quickly finished packing up their equipment and headed out the door. It was a nice, warm night outside as the two trotted home. “So,” Vinyl beamed. “How did your first performance feel?” “It was the most amazing thing ever!” the filly exclaimed as she jumped up “Heheh, I’ll bet. And a kickin’ cutie mark to boot! Now you get to make all your friends jealous.” “I know! I can’t wait to show them.” She said in excitement. Vinyl chuckled. She looked into the sky and at the moon. It had been a night just like this one when she had taken Scootaloo into her home. She smiled at the pleasant memory. Scootaloo yelped in surprise as she was suddenly wrapped in a purple aura and lifted off the ground. When she was set back down, she landed on Vinyl’s back. Confused, she inquired about this, “Um… Vinyl?” Vinyl just giggled in reply and said, “For old time’s sake, kid.” Scootaloo’s expression turned to one of content as she realized what the mare meant. She leaned over and lied on Vinyl’s back, nuzzling her mane as she got comfortable. The rest of the walk was spent in silence, but it was a pleasant silence. Each of the ponies was just happy with the way things were. Once again, Vinyl carried home the filly she cared for as if she were her own daughter. Once they got home, Vinyl took Scootaloo to her room, laid her down on the bed and tucked her in, just as she had so many times before. Vinyl was about to turn and walk out of the room when Scootaloo flung herself out of bed and wrapped her arms around the unicorn’s neck. Vinyl was surprised for a moment, but recovered and registered what was going on. Scootaloo spoke while still holding on to the mare. “I love you, Vinyl.” Vinyl didn’t hesitate to return the embrace, a tear of joy threatening to escape her eye. “I love you too, Scootaloo.” She nuzzled the filly she held in her arms. Vinyl truly did love Scootaloo. And she was so happy and proud of her. Her Scootaloo. ‘My little girl,’ Vinyl thought with a smile. ‘My little DJ.’ A/N: Alright guys. That’s it. Hope you liked it. Sorry if it wasn’t as good as the other chapters. I kinda wanted to get it finished fast so I could finish my other stories. And I just noticed something, too. Each chapter ends with Vinyl carrying Scootaloo home and tucking her into bed. Prooooobably overused that just a little bit :P. Anyways… Bye! > Sequel! > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- My Little DJ: Scootaloo's Melody YAY! Here’s the official sequel everybody. I know I said that I wouldn’t make one, but… meh. I tried to patch up a few problems I had with the first story. Anyways I hope you guys enjoy it : )
