Chapter one: I'm a Slugcat now.
It was any other day for me when I got invited by a couple of friends to go to Comicon. While I was getting packed to fly my door was knocked on. While going to the door I looked to the mirror to get a good look at myself. I'm a white male with a beard to good on me for my age of 20. With dark brown hair and green eyes. I am currently wearing a pair of blue reebok shorts and socks. a shirt that says "I'm fine. Everything is fine." while a stickman is on fire. and black sneakers with white shoestrings.
"Come on Sammy! We'll be late to the airport if you don't hurry up!" I heard my friend yell through my door. I'm Sam by the way. Samuel Amethyst is my name and the friend outside my door is James. I open the door and see his awful choice of fashion. James is of Irish descendant. With his shirt being brown with yellow stripes. His shorts being black with yellow highlights and black socks. Red sneakers with white shoestrings. Wearing some rainbow shades and an American flag themed hat.
"You realize that we have plenty of time right? It's not going to take off for three hours and it's a one hour drive." I ask while starring at him with a deadpan expression on my face. He rolls his eyes and huffs.
"But we want to look around the airport for some of the cool trinkets that we have been wanting." James then proceeds to point out. Which he doesn't realize that we'll probably only be there for about thirty minutes. But I'm not going to say anything. It will just break out into an argument that will make us ignore each other for the entire trip like last time.
"Just give me a minute, I only have to pack my two laptops and my Xbox. Then that will be everything I'll need." I say as I turn to go finish packing as I hear a sigh. I know James hates me taking both my laptops and Xbox but there is a lot of info on them that is essential for me. on my non gaming laptop i have a list that has all my passwords on it with some birthdays written down. having short term memory sucks at times.
"Now since I'm done packing and you decided to wait for me at my door you get to choose. Do you want to the heavy bag or the lighter bag?" I ask James while holding the two bags up. "Give me the lighter bag. I know I'm weaker than you." He says while holding his hand out. I put the lighter bag in his hand and he almost dropped it. I started chuckling when he rolled his eyes and used his other hand to lift the bag onto his back since it's a backpack.
When we got to the car we can see the two laughing. The one sitting on the hood of the car is Zack. He's German but lived in U.S.A ever since he was 3. He is wearing a black T-shirt with a skull on it. His shorts is grey and black. The shoes are red with a white Nike logo on it that goes with the white shoestrings. And unlike James, his hat is black to fit the colors better.
Amy was leaning against the car and had a smug grin on her. Amy is wearing a blue T with what looks like raindrops hitting in areas. Her jeans are blue and is wearing a belt. She had blue sneakers that has black for the secondary colors and shoestrings. she has blue shades with black fingerless gloves on.
"So you finally finished packing?" Amy asked. "Yeah. Now open the trunk so we can get on the road." I tell when i finally get to the trunk. She popped the trunk open and after setting everything in we take off. "So what's the plan boss?" Amy asked while driving. "Since James wanted to hit a couple stores first, we'll be going to browse. After that we'll be going to the airport." I explain so Amy and Zach knows what we're doing. They both nod as we start discussing about things that caught our interest.
"Did you know that there's a old game that is getting popularity now?" I ask as Zach nods. "It's Rain World. I've thought about getting it since it looks challenging. But I've been a little bit busy with life to have the chance. What about you?" Zach asked as I shook my head. "Life has been rough for most of us recently." I say sadly. "Especially since those of us who make less had to either take overtime or a part time job. But this trip will be worth it." Amy says as we cheer.

Later at the hotel they booked for after the flight.

"Hurry up Amy! I can't stand Zach's and James's stupidity for much longer!" I yelled through the bathroom door as the two idiots yelled 'hey!' together. I hear Amy chuckle and open the door. We decided in our group's guild hall that since all of us are going to be here for comic con that we should dress in the same theme. The theme that was chosen was slugcats from the game Rain World. Each slugcat has a different set of abilities. (See the abilities in the Author's notes section. I'll give a general idea of some of the abilities and which slugcat they belong to.) I'm going as a red Spearmaster, Amy is a light blue Rivulet, Zach is a black Artificer, And James is going as the teal Saint. The eight others we will meet with is going to be in the lobby of our hotel.
Well we would have if they didn't get impatient. "Let me guess, They got bored so they went to comic con already." I say knowing that I'm right in my prediction as the three nod. "They said we will meet up with them at the cafe there. said something about cats." Julia says. She's American wearing the white survivor slugcat costume. She's also the 'mother' of the group. Ever since she joined our guild as a cleric when searching for another healer as the boss can tank and dish out damage. And ever since then she's taken the 'mother' role for scolding us when we do something stupid.
"They wanted to see how the cats would react to people wearing slugcat costumes. They even made bets, But I bet that they would be aggressive to them." Gemini said. I nod approvingly and say "That would be the only thing they would do besides cower in the corner and wait for them to leave.". Gemini is of Roman decent but grew up in Canada for most of her life. She joined the guild while in Canada and after she a couple years, She moved to the States to go to a very promising collage. She's the only one with a degree in our group. She's in a green Saint slugcat costume.
"To be honest I'm surprised Gem didn't leave to see what would happen. Even more surprised that Logan went with them." Paul said. Paul is dressed as a yellow monk slugcat. "That isn't too much of a surprise to me." I say. I knew Logan while growing up and he's been a cat person all his life. His family always had cats. When I would visit I often had fun playing with logan while pretending the cats was our minions. "His family grew up with cats in every part of the house. I'm surprised he doesn't have a cat in his apartment." I say reminiscing about the childhood memories.
"And that's why you and Logan are the guild leaders/strategists." Amy said with a chuckle. We all left and went to the comic con. When we arrived, I noticed that Microsoft has a section. "How about we check out Microsoft's section? They might have something cool to announce." I point out and everyone agreed. We noticed that there's a new title in development for Diablo but that's all. We then moved on and ran into Larry and Mars. Larry is a yellow Gourmand while Mars is a tiny purple Artificer.
"Hey guys. Where are the other three?" I ask when we catch up to them. "Don't know. We split up when we went to the movie section." Larry said. "Since logan liked books more than movies, He will be at the book stores. Meanwhile Mike and Angela are likely going to the trinket stores." Mars add onto what Larry said. We then went after Logan first.
While looking into the stores, We heard a voice behind us speak up. "Looking for me?" I smiled at the familiar voice of Logan. "As smart as ever Logan." I said as I turned around and see him in a blue Gourmand outfit. "We're going to go to the trinket stores now to find the other two. Might buy some trinkets so we have a memento of our trip here." I tell him as he nods.
We arrived at the trinket area of the convention when we hear Mike and Angela yelling for us. When we get there over there I ask "You find anything cool?". "not yet but we're only on the third shop." Mike says as he continues looking around. Mike is a green baby Survivor. "Hey guys! look at what I found!" Angela said. She is wearing a cyan baby Rivulet costume. When everyone got there we see spears, rocks, and grenades on the rack. The best part is they are designed from Rain World's game. After we get the items best suited for us we walk up to the counter.
After a minute of waiting we see the back door open and a guy dressed as a merchant from Palworld walked in. "Nice costumes ladies and gents. Found some stuff you liked?" The merchant asked as we all nod. "For everyone but our saint a mark of communication. For myself as a Spearmaster a bone spear(it's cannon name is a needle but that's lame.). For the two artificers, a explosive spear. For one Gourmand, A grenade. For the other Gourmand, A fire egg. The Saint has a karma flower and a rock. Both the Rivulets have jellyfish. Everyone else chosen a spear." I say as we put it all down. "Well since you're a big group and fit the theme. I'll give you guys a discount. This will be a total of one hundred and twenty seven dollars." He offers and everyone pitched in to pay. With seven of us paying 1 more dollar then the other five.
"Thank you for the discount sir! Hope you get more money for giving us a discount." I say excitedly at him as we leave his store. When we exited the convention and got to our hotel room to sleep. We all meet in the lobby this morning. When we're walking to the convention a portal opens up out from under us. With me having the quickest reflex I grabbed the ledge of the portal frame. I then use my other hand to grab onto Angela. We almost had everyone in the chain but Logan failed to grab Mars' arm. in a panic I let go of the ledge.
"What the hell is happening here!?" Angela exclaimed in confusion. "I don't know! But the better question is where is this!? Especially since it looks like a wormhole from that one show!" I yelled out. "You're talking about The Lego Movie! But that's supposed to be impossible!" Larry yelled out. While traveling through the wormhole a window popped up and we can see two figures. "Have fun!" the figure on the left said before the window closed. Then we blacked out from the shock.
'Why am I feeling numb? And what is with this migraine?' I think to myself as I open my eyes and see an unfamiliar area. That caused me to sit up in a panic as I looked around and see a forest all around me. I tried to speak but widened my eyes when nothing came out. I grabbed my ears that used to be my costume's and feel me touching them as they are my ears now. I was about to sit when I noticed Paul stirring.
When he looked at me as I waved him over. When he got to me, I had started writing in the ground with the bone spear. Some info that I already discovered. As he went through the motions to confirm what I wrote down, I had started getting everyone up and caught up info wise. 'What do we do now?" Logan wrote to ask for directions. After everyone read it they started looking to me. I had my hand in a thinking pose as I started thinking.
I wrote 'Well first we set up base. I've been camping before but didn't care for it. Anyone here have a better way to explain?'. Gemini raised her hand in the 'I do' fashion and started jumping. I waved her over and she started writing down things to do. Larry's job is going to be to make sure everyone is fed. Logan had been to figure out a landmark nearby hopefully to see if there is any settlements nearby. He was told to bring me and Mike. We left to the West of camp.
After a bit of wondering around we discovered a wooden hut. When we paused and we're trying to decide who should check it out. After a minute of debating I just shrugged and pushed past the two while they glare at me. When I arrived to the door and knocked I didn't hear anything. After a couple of seconds I was about to go back to my friends when the hut opened and... is that a zebra!? When did a animal know how to live and operate like a human?
"greetings little one. how may I help you?" She asked me and I just stood in shock. After a minute of standing in shock I shake my head and bring out a stick. we decided if we ran into civilization that a cat wielding a weapon would be weird. So we grabbed a decent sized branch to communicate with. I wrote in the ground 'Hi! Me and my friends don't know where we are and is searching around for any landmarks. do you happen to know where we are?'.
After reading it then reading it again she looked at me with a confused glance. "How do you not know where this place is? And we're in the most dangerous place in Equestria. better watch out for nature's aria." She responds making me gulp... or I would if I HAD A MOUTH! I'm still very annoyed that I don't have a mouth. 'My friends and I had a portal open under us while walking and then we're in the clearing.' I wrote down. "So you are from foreign land. Be careful as even here isn't safe to stand." She says. I look around and see that there are eyes from animals watching me.
'Can me and my friends come in please? It would make the questions more relaxed. I write out and get a nod for a answer. I turn and throw a rock at the bush they are hiding behind. When they pop their heads up, I signal them to come as I get in the hut.
When they get inside I ask the zebra for her name. "My name is Zecora. What names do you three have?" The zebra now known as Zecora responded. 'My name is Sam. Logan is the name of the fat blue one. And Mike's the small green one.' I write down. 'Do you have a map or something of Equestria?' I write the question and she shakes her head. "I do not have a map. The ponies in the town perhaps." Zecora said.
After a while of exchanging info with Zecora. We left and headed back to camp. It turns out that in a couple of weeks is going to be Halloween, Or as it's called here Nightmare Night. Which I may prefer over Halloween. While I'm interested in checking it out. We'll be busy setting up our camp.
When we got back to the camp. Our campfire was set up to where it won't spread and start a forest fire. We have the outline of a shelter. As well as a 'chalkboard' but in the ground and with a bunch of sticks and rope to make a bunch of letters. I walk over to Gemini and point to it while shrugging. She made a motion to follow her. When the four of us got there she picked up the letters to explain 'This is the first chalkboard area. Since we needed a way to talk on the grass. I had made these so we can use the dirt areas for more important things like a shelter and fire.'.
After she finished and we read the sentences, We nodded as she picked the letters up and started again. 'Logan and Sam are going to go help finish the shelter. Meanwhile Mike's going to help me with this bowl. I'm making bowls for our soup and plates are easy enough.' Gemini wrote down. While Mike and Logan nodded I raised my hand and pointed at the board. When she nodded I moved to grab the letters and started writing.
'We made contact with a Sentient creature... It was a zebra and it could speak English like us.' I let her read before writing more. 'She made the house she's living in and is from this world's Africa. We're in the land of Equestria where the main species is the ponies. The ponies are separated into four sub-species. That being Earth, Pegasus, Unicorn, And alicorns. Earth ponies have higher strength. Pegasus with wings and can control the weather. Unicorns with literal MAGIC. And Alicorns Having all three traits from the other races. I Finish explaining.
After a while of debating. We decided to keep to ourselves for now. Especially with the whole being moved to this world. And we decided to wait until tomorrow to share the info we gathered from Zecora. After some collecting of herbs and other materials that Zecora said isn't poisonous, As well as getting the last huge sticks and leaves we need to finish the shelter. So far everything was almost... normal.
I was looking down at my bowl of soup as I realized something. When I looked up I noticed the others staring at me as if asking 'Why aren't you eating?'. I pointed at where a mouth should be. I see the look of realization and horror dawn on the smarter people. As Logan came to cheer me up and took me away. I could see Gemini who picked up on my meaning take to the chalkboard. She's most definitely going to point out I don't have a mouth.
When we were gathered before lunch we made rules like groups of 2 when in the woods. always have a spear with you. Things to help our survival. While Logan and I was walking we ran into a weird lizard. Logan being curious was starting to walk forward. Until the lizard turned it's head to us and saw us. Then the lizard rushed at Logan. He was frozen in shock as he just stood there.
Then without thinking I jumped over him and threw the bone spear. After it hit the Lizard I felt refreshed. I then noticed a line flow from the spear into me. I had to focus on the bigger issue though. After I hit the lizard it roared in pain as it started looking at me in anger. I'm officially on it's shit list now, yippee.
I started running away as the lizard chased after me. After a while I switched from running on my back feet to all fours. picking up speed as I ran for my life. I turned and see some ruins up ahead of me. I turned my head to look back and see the lizard still charging at me. I ran as fast as I could until I got to the entrance of this ruins. After a second of pushing the door gave in to the demand of mine. Opening just enough for me to get into the ruins. I start pushing it closed. once it closed I heard a thud and felt the door budge.
It didn't do that again but just to be safe, I looked for a window close by. While finally being able to take in the sights. This is most definitely a castle. There are banners ripped and torn. Some banners are yellow with the sun on it. The others are blue with a crescent moon. There are stone bricks missing from higher up on the walls and holes in the roof. Foliage has started taking over the ground again. Some bricks in the floor are even cracked by the foliage. In the middle of the floor is a carpet laid out for royalty. And on top of a set of stairs is two thrones. This must be the castle of the two sisters Zecora talked about.
I see the window that is able to view the yard area. When I get up to the ledge to look for the lizard I don't see it. But I do see my spear I used to feed... OH SHIT, I forgot about that for a second but I got less hungry after I stabbed the lizard. And I slowly got full until the lizard ran into the door. After it did I stopped getting food. But I still feel hungry... 'I can't believe I'm about to do this.' I thought to myself as I open the door and got the spear.
I started exploring the basement area of the castle and soon found what I'm looking for. Perched on the ceiling is a bat. sitting still and sleeping. I took my time to aim and threw my spear. I missed and caused the bat to fly away in a panic. I then jumped up and grabbed the bat. Once I got the spear I poked the bat in a non-fatal area. Once I was full I patted the bat on the head and released it. I watched it fly away into the darkness.
After a bit more of exploring the ruins. I ran into a bedroom that is still mostly in tact. As I looked around I heard lightning strike near the window. I went to it and looked out to see it raining. And all I can think is 'Great. Now my first night in this new world is on my own.'. As I get on the bed, I close my eyes and let the rain lull me to sleep.
