> Give them a push > by Aurora_Glow > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > The Arrival > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Twilight paced around in circles on the Ponyville train station platform. Starlight watched nearby, unimpressed, yet used to Twilight’s anxiousness. “Their train was supposed to come 40 seconds ago!” Twilight exclaimed. “Where are they? Do you think something happened? Starlight, what if they suddenly decided that they didn’t want to come! What if they got into an accident! What if—“ Twilight’s rant was cut short when Starlight put her hoof to her former mentor’s mouth. “Breathe Twilight. I’m sure they’re on their way. Trains do get delayed after all,” she said. Twilight nodded, and removed Starlight’s hoof from her mouth. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, making use of the breathing exercise Cadance taught her. “Yes yes, I’m sure they’re fine,” said the alicorn. “I’m just so excited to see Cadance and Flurry. It’s been so long since we last met. Flurry’s 5 now! I can’t believe she’s all grown up!” Starlight giggled. “And I’m excited to see Sunburst as well. From what I’ve heard, Flurry’s been getting real good at spells thanks to Sunburst’s teachings,” she said. “I can’t wait to share some spells I learnt with him! Maybe we can teach Flurry together later!” Twilight smirked. “Only excited to share spells Starlight? You sure it’s not because of some other reason?” she teased gently. Starlight’s face turned scarlet. “What… what other reason could there be? I’m just excited to spend time with my friend,” she stammered. Twilight’s smirk grew. “If you say so Starlight. If you say so.” Starlight raised an eyebrow. So this was how Twilight wanted to play? "Fine. You win,” she said. “My feelings for Sunburst are just like your feelings for a certain Crystal Empire guard that you are literally always bumping into,” Starlight knew Twilight had a massive crush on Flash Sentry. She’s had her share of experiences during the last few years of watching Twilight bump into the guard, blush furiously then stutter. From what Rarity told her, the bumping, blushing then stuttering routine had started long before Starlight had met the princess of friendship. It was Twilight’s turn to blush. “So strictly platonic,” she said, nodding quickly. “Got it. Just friends, like how I’m just friends with Flash.” The sound of a train screeching on the tracks interrupted whatever the two had to say next, stopping the former mentor and student from continuing to chat about the embarrassing topic. Something they were both thankful for. Two pink alicorns emerged from the train, followed by an orange unicorn. “Cadance! Flurry!” exclaimed Twilight excitedly. Starlight also perked up at the sight of Sunburst, her cheeks gaining a faint rosy glow once again. Unbeknownst to her, Flurry Heart noticed the slight colour change. Ooh! Auntie Starlight likes likes Uncle Sunburst! thought Flurry. With her mother being the literal princess of love, the filly had picked up some things over the years. Maybe I can bring them together! I’ve seen Mommy do it with some of the Crystal ponies! If I make them say they love each other, they’ll be happy! The Crystal ponies that Mommy helps always seem happy after Mommy helps them! Plus, Auntie Applejack always said that it was important to be honest with your feelings. Oh Mommy’s gonna be so proud of me! “Sunshine sunshine ladybug’s awake,” said Twilight to Cadance while doing their special greeting. “Clap your hooves and do a little shake!” finished her sister in law. Flurry giggled at her mother and aunt’s antics. Some things never change. Even after all these years, her mommy and auntie were still as close as before. “Auntie Twily! Auntie Starlight!” cheered Flurry, running towards her aunt. Twilight hugged her niece and gave her forehead a quick kiss. “Flurry! How’s my favorite niece?” she asked. Flurry giggled. “Never better!” she answered brightly, her wings flapping a little bit due to the filly’s enthusiasm. “Uncle Sunburst taught me a lot of new spells! I learnt transfiguration spells! Mr Starswirl even came to visit once, and he taught me his pillow fluffing spell! Uncle Sunburst also taught me Miss Meadowbrook’s healing conju… conjumflation!” Twilight chuckled, ruffling Flurry’s mane. “Conjuration sweetie. Sound’s like somepony is getting really good with their magic! But Starswirl’s pillow fluffing spell?” she asked, confused. Cadance shrugged. “Apparently Starswirl is very strict about the fluffiness of his pillows,” she explained. Twilight nodded in understanding. Meanwhile, off to the side, Starlight and Sunburst were having their own little conversation. “Glad you’re here Sunburst,” said Starlight, giving her friend a quick hug. She didn’t notice how he had blushed slightly at the gesture. “But I thought Cadance was here to discuss some princess stuff with Twilight? If memory serves right, Twilight said that Cadance wanted to go through the upcoming Ponyville Days. Something about the Crystal Empire wanting to set up a booth to promote the history and culture of the Crystal Empire during the Equestria and beyond cultural exchange part of the festival?” Sunburst nodded. “Yes that’s what Twilight and Cadance will be doing,” he said. “But Flurry wanted to come see her, and I quote, ‘best auntie ever’, so I offered to tag along to look after her.” The stallion didn’t tell Starlight the real reason he wanted to come to Ponyville as well— Sunburst wanted to pay Starlight a visit. For some reason, Starlight was never far from his mind. No matter what he did, his thoughts always seemed to drift back to the unicorn. Starlight grinned, excited to not only spend time with her best friend, but also to spend time with Flurry. “Wonderful! I can teach Flurry some new spells while we watch her! I can teach her Mistmane’s crescente incantatores! Or maybe the speed reading spell Twilight taught me!” The unicorn clapped her hooves together in glee and delight. “Wait wait we?” questioned a shocked Sunburst. “You’re willing to foalsit Flurry with me?” Starlight rolled her eyes and nodded. “Of course!” she said. “Why wouldn’t I spend time with my best and oldest friend?” “I think that’s a great idea Starlight,” said Cadance, walking over to them, a smile on her face. “I’m sure Flurry would love to learn some new spells. She loves her magic lessons.” Flurry nodded and impatiently tugged her mother’s mane. “Can we go to Auntie Twily’s castle yet Mommy?” she pouted. “We’ve been standing here forever!” The group chuckled before heading towards to the direction of the Castle of Friendship. Little did Sunburst and Starlight know, Flurry Heart was cooking up a little plan in her head. They were in for a long day… > A Flurry of Spells > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- “You three have fun! We’ll be back from Town Hall after we discuss the Ponyville Days stuff with Mayor Mare by the end of the day,” said Cadance as she and Twilight walked out the door. “And don’t try any of the dangerous spells! Oh! And definitely no time spells! At all!” said Twilight, narrowing her eyes and looking sternly at the three ponies. Starlight huffed and rolled her eyes. “I know Twilight,” she said, exasperated. “Yeesh. Who do you take me for? Of course there’s no way I’m gonna mess with time again.” Beside her, Sunburst and Flurry chuckled, both very familier with Starlight’s past… exploits. Twilight smiled, finally satisfied, and after she and Cadance said their last goodbyes, they finally left the castle, leaving the three alone. Turning to Flurry Heart, Starlight said, “So Flurry, wanna head to the library now? I’m sure we can find a book with just the right spells for you.” Flurry Heart nodded quickly, then zoomed off to the direction of the library, leaving Sunburst and Starlight behind. Sunburst and Starlight chuckled. “She sure is eager to learn,” observed Starlight. “Yep,” Sunburst agreed. “Cadance told me that Flurry reminded her of Twilight when she was a filly. I can kinda see why.” A mental image of a filly Twilight trying to cast advanced spells from a book filled Starlight’s mind, causing her to chortle. “So can I,” she said. “Now come on. Let’s go find Flurry. Won’t be good to keep her waiting.” The unicorn took Sunburst’s hoof and ran, pulling the stallion along. Her tinkling laughter echoed through the hallways. She never noticed how Sunburst had started to blush when her hoof touched his. In the library, Starlight and Sunburst were going through books, hunting for spells that Flurry could try. Flurry Heart was flitting from shelf to shelf, going through all the spell books that Twilight had. Over the years, the bookworm had certainly accumulated quite a collection. A brown book with a heart on the spine caught Flurry’s attention. She took it off the shelf and put it on the floor, flipping through the pages, until she stopped at a particular page about a potion that intrigued her. There was a picture of a stallion and a mare looking at each other lovingly. Hmm… It’s a love potion? Hey! maybe I can use this! thought Flurry. A smile appeared on her face. She found the perfect way to make Starlight and Sunburst confess their love! Now I’ll just need to make it! The potion seems easy enough to make. The ingredients don’t seem hard to find. But I should ask Auntie Starlight whether or not this is safe. Auntie Twily says that I should double check everything. “Auntie Starlight, what’s this?” she asked. Starlight paused her search for suitable spells for Flurry, looking up from the book she was reading. Once she caught sight of the page Flurry was looking at however, her eyes widened in alarm. “That’s a dangerous potion Flurry,” she answered. “It makes ponies fall in love uncontrollably. The victims will only be able to think about love and they won’t be able to do anything else. Your Auntie Twily told me about it once. Apparently the Cutie Mark Crusaders have experience with it.” Flurry pouted. So she can’t use the potion after all. She should ask the CMCs what exactly their “experience” with the potion was. It sounded like a nice story. But that aside, she’ll have to think of some other plan now. Starlight noticed Flurry’s pout. “Oh cheer up Flurry,” she comforted. “Just because you can’t brew that potion, doesn’t mean that we can’t do other types of magic. I found some spells for you to try. Come on! Time for Auntie Starlight to show you some cool magic, instead of the boring spells Sunburst probably makes you do.” Sunburst snorted and put down his book. “I teach her plenty of ‘cool’ spells Starlight,” he retorted. “But fine. Let’s see how well you can teach.” Starlight rose an eyebrow. “I’ll have you know I am a very good teacher. Who do you think covers for Twilight and the gang’s lessons at the School of Friendship?” the mare asked, glaring playfully at him. “I’ve had plenty of teaching experience. But if that’s how you want to play, then challenge accepted. Ready to learn some of the best spells you’ll ever learn Flurry?” The alicorn cheered, momentarily forgetting about her quest to play matchmaker. The hours flew by. Starlight taught Flurry spell after spell. Flurry learnt super quickly. They stayed away from the dangerous spells per Twilight’s request. Sunburst watched Starlight teach from his spot on couch. She really is a wonderful teacher, he thought, staring at Starlight with a forlorn look. She’d make a wonderful mother someday. There’s no way I’ll ever be able to be the father though. Starlight’s one of the most talented ponies I know, not to mention Twilight’s former pupil and a guidance counselor at the School of Friendship. I’m just a school drop out and a Crystaller… Maybe someday… Flurry’s laugh pulled Sunburst out of his thoughts. He glanced at the clock on the wall, a bit surprised. They’ve been casting spells for almost four hours now. Flurry should be hungry by now. Sunburst cleared his throat. Starlight and Flurry halted their spell casting and looked at him. “Hate to break this up girls,” he said, giving his glasses a push. “But it’s lunch time right now, and I think somepony should be getting hungry right now. Why don’t we head out for some food?” Right on cue, Flurry’s stomach grumbled, which made Starlight and Sunburst laugh. “All right all right,” agreed Starlight. “Let’s head out for lunch. Then maybe we can head to Sugarcube Corner for some dessert.” A wide grin appeared on Flurry’s face. “Yes please Auntie Starlight!” she said. “And we can see Auntie Pinkie Pie while we’re there!” Maybe I can even ask Auntie Pinkie Pie whether or not she has any tips for matchmaking later! This is gonna be so fun! > Spaghetti > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Starlight looked at the menu in her hooves. “I’ll have a Rose petal burger,” she said to the waiter. “And a glass of grape juice please.” “An oats and daisy sandwich for me, with a glass of grape juice as well,” said Sunburst. “And macaroni and cheese for the little one, along with a strawberry and blueberry smoothie.” The waiter nodded, jotting down their order. He gave a small bow and left the table. “How did you know what Flurry wanted?” asked Starlight. “She never said anything about her preference.” Sunburst shrugged. “She always wants macaroni and cheese when we are out. And strawberries and blueberries are her favorite.” Starlight couldn’t help but admire him. He’s going to make a great father someday, she thought. He takes such good care of Flurry. The filly is definitely lucky to have Sunburst look after her. And I didn’t even notice how hungry Flurry was getting… Flurry Heart looked back and forth between Sunburst and Starlight. The two ponies were looking at each other, but each seemed oblivious to how the other felt. A light bulb went off in Flurry’s head. She got it! Maybe she can borrow a trick from the play Daddy and Mommy brought her to see! What was it called again? The lady and the tramp? The filly made a beeline towards the waiter from just now. She whispered instructions in his ear, pointing towards her table. The waiter smiled and nodded, happy to play along. “What did you say to the guy Flurry?” Sunburst asked. Flurry smiled at him. “Just told him that I wanted extra cheese on my macaroni,” she said, shrugging. Sunburst nodded before continuing his conversation with Starlight. The two were neck in neck in a debate on which one of Starswirl’s spells was the hardest. It wasn’t long before their food came. But to Sunburst and Starlight’s surprise, a large plate of spaghetti was put in front of them, instead of the foo they had originally ordered. When the two weren’t looking, the waiter winked at Flurry, who winked back. “Macaroni and a smoothie for the young lady, and a plate of lover’s spaghetti for the mare and stallion,” said the waiter, his eyes twinkling. “We… we didn’t order this,” stammered Starlight, flushing scarlet. Sunburst nodded in agreement. “It’s fine Uncle and Auntie,” chirped Flurry innocently. “Maybe they mixed up th order. But wouldn’t it be such a shame if the cooks had to prepare the food all over again? Looks like you’ll have to share!” Starlight and Sunburst looked at each other, embarrassed. The filly did have a point… “Well it’s fine,” she said to the waiter. “But can you bring us two plates please? We can’t really eat from the same plate.” The waiter nodded and went on his way, returning with two new plates. Flurry’s face fell. If they ate from different plates, they wouldn’t be able to eat the same piece of spaghetti and kiss! That was her original plan! Now it’s ruined. Flurry scowled, which none of the adults took notice to, since they were too busy splitting up the spaghetti. She’ll have to think of something else again… Oh well. That can wait. Right now, Flurry was hungry! The three ponies were on their way to Sugarcube corner, ready to have some dessert after their delicious meal. While the spaghetti might have been unexpected for Starlight and Sunburst, both agreed that it was a good meal. Ding! The bell sounded when they entered the sweet shop. Pinkie Pie was tending the counter. “Hi Starlight! Hi Sunburst! Hi Flurry!” Pinkie greeted with her usual enthusiasm, bounding over to the group. “My, you’ve certainly grown since I’ve las seen you Flurry!” “Hiya Auntie Pinkie!” greeted Flurry, flying over to the pink pony. “Can I have my special milkshake? Please?” “Of course!” Pinkie said. “My Pinkie sense told me you were coming. I just finished whipping it up!” It had became a tradition for Pinkie to give Flurry a special milkshake ever time she cam to Sugarcube Corner. The flavor was different every time, but it was always the best thing Flurry had ever tasted. Pinkie brought Flurry to the kitchen while Starlight and Sunburst waited outside. On the kitchen counter sat a pink and blue milkshake with whipped cream and a cherry on top. Flurry excitedly took a sip. “Mhmm! Cotton candy,” she said, slurping. “With a hint of blueberry!” added Pinkie. “Auntie Pinkie, can I ask you something?” Flurry asked. “Pinkie promise not to tell Auntie starlight and Uncle Sunburst?” Pinkie nodded. “Cross my heart and count to five, sick a cupcake in my eye,” she said. “I wanna get Uncle Sunburst and Auntie Starlight together, but so far nothing’s worked,” lamented Flurry. “Do you have any ideas?” Pinkie chuckled. “Seems like you’re taking after your mama,” she said, winking. “Maybe I can help you in succeeding in your little mission…” She whispered a plan in Flurry’s ear. Flurry giggled and climbed on pinkie’s back. The two made it back out to where the two victims of their scheme were. “Ready to go Flurry?” Sunburst asked. “It’s almost nap time.” “Wait before you go, can you two try out a new game I’ve been working on?” Pinkie asked. Starlight and Sunburst looked at each other, then shrugged. They’ve got time. Pinkie pulled two cupcakes out of her pouty mane. “You two bite into the cupcake. If the inside is blue, I ask you a question and you tell the truth. If the inside is pink, I dare you to do something and you do it. It’s cupcake version of truth and dare!” Sunburst and Starlight both bit into their cupcakes, revealing a pretty sapphire colour. “EEEEE!” Pinkie squealed. “You both got truth! Now here’s my question for both of you. Do you have a person you like like?” Both ponies turned crimson, while Flurry looked at them expectantly. Will it work this time?she thought. “We…well I don’t think I… I do. Do you have one Starlight?” stammered Sunburst helplessly. “N… no!” Starlight denied, shaking her head so vigorously that it looked like it was in danger of falling off. Flurry scowled. Aww, she thought. I really thought that would work. Better luck next time I guess… Pinkie eyed Sunburst and Starlight suspiciously, before giggling. “Okie dokie lokie,” she said. “If you two say so! Have fun with your day now! Bye!” “Bye!” Sunburst, Starlight and Flurry said, heading out the door. “What was that about?” Starlight asked Sunburst. “Pinkie seems more… Pinkie than usual…” “I’m sure it was nothing,” reassured Sunburst. “She’s just being, well, Pinkie.” But still… When Pinkie asked me that question, I couldn’t help but think of Sunburst… Starlight thought. But I can never be with him. He’ll never accept me. Heck, I started a cult and almost destroyed the world! Even the destroying the world part wasn’t intentional, it doesn’t change the fact that I still almost did it… He’s too good for me… Flurry yawned beside them, which made Starlight look towards her. “Hang in there Flurry,” a giggling Starlight said. “Sunburst did say that it was almost your nap time. We’re almost at the castle. Tell you what? I’ll let you ride on my back. Hop on!” Flurry smiled and flew onto Starlight, which made Sunburst chuckle. Nap time, here they come! > Story Time > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Flurry Heart was snuggled on a comfy bed in the Castle of Friendship. The room she was in was specifically designed for her by Twilight, for when she came for visits. There were all sorts of toys in the corner. A light in the shape of a cloud hung from the ceiling. And of course, there was a book shelf filled to the brim with books. Twilight had spared no expense for her niece. "So Flurry, would you like a story before you go to bed?" asked Sunburst. "Yes please," the alicorn said, clapping her hooves. She thought for a moment. Which story should I go for? she wondered. What about the tale of Princess Petunia and her knight? Mommy had read that to me once, and I had liked it a lot. Plus, it had a bit of love in it. Maybe it'll motivate Uncle Sunburst and Auntie Starlight to be honest? "Can I have the tale of Princess Petunia and her knight please?" Flurry asked Sunburst, pointing to the bookshelf. "Of course, since you said please," answered Sunburst, levitating the book over to the bed. Flurry Heart was growing up to be quite the polite filly. "You know, Twilight once told me that was her favorite fairytale when she was a filly," Starlight spoke up. "Like aunt, like niece I guess." Flurry grinned. She was glad to hear that. Auntie Twily was one of her favorite role models. On the cover of the chosen book was a pink mare wearing a tiara and a stallion wearing a knight's attire. The two ponies were looking bashfully away from one another, a blush on their cheeks. Flurry stared at the cover for a moment. The expressions of the ponies kind of reminded her of Sunburst and Starlight. And just like that, Flurry got another idea. Maybe fourth time's the charm? "Uncle Sunburst? Auntie Starlight?" Flurry said, looking at her two caretakers for the day. "Can you take turns reading to me? Auntie Starlight can read Princess Petunia's lines, and Uncle Sunburst can read Knight Braveheart's lines! Then you two can take turns reading the other parts!" Starlight smiled. "That sounds like a wonderful idea Flurry!" she exclaimed. Sunburst nodded beside her. "As long as you go to sleep right after we finish reading. Okay?" he said. Flurry nodded, delighted that her plan was going well. She snuggled further into her covers, eagerly waiting for the story to start. Sunburst cleared his throat and opened the book. "Once upon a time," he started... (Orange is Sunburst. Purple is Starlight.) There lived a unicorn princess called Petunia. Petunia was a curious and adventurous pony. She longed to explore the outside world, to fight some kind of evil. Her opportunity came when one day, the kingdom was threatened by none other than a monster! He was big, green and scary. Horns rested on top of his head. Petunia went to find her parents. "Mom? Dad?" the princess asked timidly. "I hereby request that I be sent to fight the monster that has been seen in our kingdom lately." The King and Queen looked at each other nervously. Neither wanted to send their dear daughter out to face the danger. "But Petunia darling, are you sure? It's a dangerous world out there. We would be most devastated if you got hurt. Or worse...' the Queen said, shivering. (Flurry giggled when Starlight did a stunningly accurate impression of Rarity while pretending to be the Queen.) Petunia nodded. This was her chance! She could finally have her adventure! Plus, the kingdom needed her! "Very well," said the King. "You can go. But we'll send a knight with you to protect you." Petunia nodded again. She could barely contain her happiness! She could go! She better go pack! Thanking her mom and dad, the princess ran out to her room, grabbing the supplies that she would need and putting them into a saddlebag. The next day, Princess Petunia went down towards the garden. She was told her guard would be waiting for her there. It didn't take long for her to spot him. He was a unicorn with a dark blue coat and a light blue mane, which greatly contrasted with her own light pink coat and dark pink mane. The knight was also wearing shining armor. "You must be my companion for the mission!" said Petunia as she walked towards the knight. "Hi! I'm Petunia!" The guard bowed. "Pleasure to serve you your highness," he said, which made Petunia blush. "Oh please don't call me that. Just call me Petunia!" she said. "If you insist yo— Petunia," the stallion said, and, unbeknownst to Petunia, he blushed when he said her name. "My name is Braveheart. "Well let's be off then! Come on! No time to lose!" said Petunia. And with that, they were off. The two journeyed through the kingdom. The monster they were looking for was near the outskirts of the kingdom. It was said that it had been terrorizing the villages near the borders of the kingdom. It didn't take long before the princess and her knight came across an obstacle— a timberwolf. The timberwolf launched at the two ponies. Petunia closed her eyes, bracing herself. Thump! The princess opened her eyes, surprised that she was still in one piece. In front of her, Braveheart was fighting the timberwolf, brandishing his sword. In mere minutes, the knight had frightened the timberwolf off. Petunia looked at Braveheart with admiration. He was so brave! Yet she hadn't even moved... He's a real knight in shining armor, and I'm a terrible princess, she thought to herself. I couldn't even run away... If it wasn't for him, I would have been hurt... "Are you okay Petunia?" Braveheart asked, worried. "You could have gotten hurt. We should be more careful next time." Petunia nodded. "Come on, let's not stay here. The wolf could come back," Braveheart said, walking away. Petunia followed in suite. After a bit even more trotting, Petunia and Braveheart had almost reached their destination. "You know, I've been thinking," Petunia said. "Maybe the monster isn't that bad? You never know. He might be a good monster. I don't think we've received any reports that indicate he has attacked anypony yet." Braveheart thought for a moment, and agreed. He was touched by the princess's compassion and optimism. She seemed to be able to believe in the best in every creature. If she hadn't said it, he wouldn't even have thought of the possibility that the monster was good on the inside. He would never be able to match up to Petunia. The two ponies arrived at where the monster was last sighted. Looking around, they tried to see if there was any trace of him, but it appeared that they didn't have to look too far. The monster appeared in front of them. Petunia took an anxious step forward. "Hello mister," she said, extending her hoof. "I'm Princess Petunia, but please just call me Petunia. I'd like to be your friend, if you wouldn't mind. The villagers here think that you've been waiting to attack them, but I think it's just a misunderstanding. Isn't that right?" The monster looked at the princess momentarily. The princess shuffled nervously, her hoof still extended. Then to her surprise, the monster started crying! The surprised Petunia and Braveheart quickly went forward, comforting the creature, "There there," comforted Petunia, rubbing the creature's surprisingly furry back. Braveheart did the same. "There's no need to cry. You're a big sweetheart aren't you?" Once the creature calmed down, he told Petunia and Braveheart about why he was here. His name was Bob, and he never meant to scare anyone! He was just lonely and wanted to look for a friend! But everypony ran away from him! Petunia smiled at him, and assured him that she didn't think that he was scary. She'd love to be Bob's friend! In fact, she was sure that her parents would love to meet him as well! He can go with them back to her castle! Braveheart looked from the sidelines. Petunia was the kindest pony he's ever met. He'll never measure up to her,,, Plus, she was a princess. He was just a knight... To his surprise, Petunia appeared before him. "Bob said that he's gonna get his belongings from the nearby cave and he'll be back in a few minutes," she told Braveheart. Nervously digging at the ground, she hesitated, before starting to speak again. "There's something I want to tell you..." she said, avoiding his gaze. "I...I like like you." Braveheart blinked a couple times, before a grinning. "Well that's good news Petunia," he said. "Because I think I like like you too. You're the kindest pony I've ever met." Petunia looked up to him, surprised. The knight in shining armor liked her? Petunia smiled. "And you're the bravest pony I've ever met," she said. "I'm just a scaredy cat... I'm nowhere as good as you..." Braveheart laughed. "That's just cause I'm a knight. Fighting kind of comes with the package. But you were the one to look past the monster's terrifying appearance," he pointed out. Petunia blushed. Braveheart opened his mouth to say more, but Petunia cut off whatever he had to say by giving him a kiss, taking Braveheart by surprise. Soon, Bob returned, and the three of them journeyed back to the castle, where the King and Queen welcomed Bob with open arms. A few years later, Petunia married her knight in shining armor, "And they lived happily ever after. The end," Starlight finished. Flurry clapped her hooves, and a giant yawn came from her mouth. Sunburst laughed. "Okay Flurry. You've had your story. Time for your nap now," Sunburst said. Flurry nodded, closing her eyes. "You remind me of Princess Petunia Auntie Starlight, and Uncle Sunburst reminds me of knight Braveheart..." Flurry murmured, dozing off in the middle of her sentence. Starlight and Sunburst both blushed when they heard what Flurry had said. "So what shall we do in the mean time?" asked Sunburst. "Her naps typically last a few hours, so we have time to kill." Starlight smirked, and brought out a book. "We can read Starswirl's simple guide to spell casting together," she said. "It's his new book." Sunburst snorted. "Starswirl has very little 'simple' spells. The pillow fluffing spell he taught Flurry was one of the few," he said. "But let's still read the book together. Come one." He trotted off towards the "reading corner" Twilight made for Flurry, complete with all sorts of fluffy pillows and blankets. "I can show you the pillow fluffing spell as well." Starlight smiled and followed him. Soon, the pair were side by side, bodies almost touching, bent over the book. A blanket was thrown over both of them. Both ponies contently read the book in peace, happy to just enjoy the other's presence. > Flour War > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Flurry opened her eyes, looking around. She had finished her nap, and was feeling a little bit hungry. In the corner of the room, she saw Sunburst and Starlight on the floor, reading a book together. Neither seemed to have noticed that Starlight was leaning on Sunburst, too preoccupied with the book in front of them. Flurry got off the bed and flew over to her uncle and aunt. They didn't notice her, too wrapped up in their own little world. Which would normally be cute, if Flurry wasn't itching for a snack after her nap. "Uncle Sunburst? Auntie Starlight?" the filly questioned. Sunburst and Starlight looked away from the book, before realizing how there was little to no distance between the two of them. Both ponies scrambled up, a slight flush on their cheeks. The blanket they were sharing fell off their back. "Sorry Sunburst," Starlight said sheepishly. "Looks like I got a little bit carried away with reading." Sunburst shook his head. "It's fine Starlight. I didn't mind..." He whispered the last sentence so quietly that neither Starlight nor Flurry heard him. "What was that?" Starlight asked. Sunburst turned crimson. "Nothing nothing. It was nothing..." he said. Starlight narrowed her eyes at him before shrugging and letting it go. "Sorry we didn't realize you were awake Flurry," Sunburst said, turning his attention to the filly. "Guess we kind of lost track of time..." Flurry flew up to Sunburst and Starlight's eye level. "I'm hungry," she declared. "I wanna have a snack." Starlight giggled and pat the filly on the head. "Okay Flurry. Hmm," she said, scratching her chin. "I'm kind of in the mood for something sweet. How about we bake some cupcakes together? If that's okay with Sunburst." "Yay! Cupcakes!" Flurry cheered, and landed on Sunburst's back. "Please Uncle Sunburst?" Sunburst chuckled. "I guess it's fine Flurry. Let's go to the kitchen." Excitedly clapping her hooves, the princess hopped of Sunburst's back, and impatiently tugged on Starlight and Sunburst's hooves. "Then come on!" she exclaimed, rushing out the door. The two adults chuckled and followed. "Now according to the cookbook, we add the water and vanilla extract, then mix until smooth," Starlight said, reading from the cookbook. "Do you want chocolate cupcakes Flurry?" Flurry nodded. Chocolate was the best! And cupcakes were also the best! she thought. What did Auntie Pinkie used to say again? Oh right! Cupcakes, so sweet and tasty! Mix chocolate and cupcakes together, and you get the best possible thing ever! "Well, then Flurry, pour the bowl of cocoa powder in the batter. You want to mix this time?" Starlight asked. Flurry nodded, and followed Starlight's instructions. Soon, the batter was done, and a batch of cupcakes were popped into the oven. "Now the frosting," Sunburst said. "Hmm, it says here to just mix the pack of royal icing sugar and water together. All right." The three ponies followed the instructions, and it didn't take long for some icing to form. "I want it pink!" Flurry said. Starlight laughed and got out the pink food colouring, adding it into the bowl. Sunburst took a spatula, mixing it evenly. "Perfect!" exclaimed Flurry when he was done. "Now let's set this aside and wait for the cupcakes to be done," Starlight set, levitating the bowl, covering it and putting it on another table. "Now it's time to clean up." Flurry looked around, and a mischievous glint appeared in her eyes. She dunked her hooves into some left over flour, then flew over Sunburst. Before Sunburst could register what was happening, Flurry clapped her hooves, causing flour to fall onto the stallion. His mane and part of his coat turned white. Starlight couldn't help but laugh out loud at his misfortune. Sunburst glared at her. "Game on you two," he said. He levitated a bowl of flour, and threw the flour at Starlight, earning a squawk from the mare. An adorable squawk, if Sunburst did say so himself. The now white Starlight narrowed her eyes, and got her own bowl of flour. She aimed at Sunburst. It didn't take long before a flour war erupted in the kitchen. Chaos ensued. Flour was thrown at each other, and soon so was cocoa powder and sugar. Starlight and Flurry went against Sunburst. The stallion did his best to defend himself, but he was no match for the powerful unicorn and alicorn. The ring of the oven timer brought them back to their senses. The cupcakes were done. The ponies looked around. There manes and coats were completed white with a few patches of brown. The kitchen was a mess. There wasn't an inch of space on the countertop that wasn't white or brown. The floor wasn't spared either. Hoofprints could be seen in the places where the three had ran around. "Twilight's gonna kill me," Starlight muttered as she surveyed the mess. Sunburst gulped. "Let's frost the cupcakes and put them away. Then we can clean ourselves up, then the kitchen," he suggested. Starlight nodded, and went to get the cupcakes out of the oven. "Come on Flurry. Let's frost these together." Flurry smiled, and took the piping bag that was filled with frosting from Sunburst. After the cupcakes were frosted and had been put into the fridge, and the ponies had all taken a quick shower, they got to work cleaning the kitchen. However, even after half an hour of cleaning, it seemed as though they had barely cleaned anything. Starlight looked at the mess, dejected. There was still flour, cocoa powder and sugar everywhere. I wonder... she thought. The unicorn looked over at Sunburst, who was hard at work scrubbing a particularly stubborn stain with Flurry. "Hey Sunburst?" she asked. "Remember that spell we used to use when we were foals to clean up our messes?" Sunburst nodded. "Of course!" he said. "What was it called again? Celeritas..." He scratched his head. "Purgatio exponentia!" Starlight and Sunburst finished together, grinning at each other. "I think I still know how to do it," Starlight said, closing her eyes and concentrating. With a blast of magic, cleaning supplies such as mops and brooms came out of the broom closet. The supplies cleaned up everything in their path, leaving a stainless, glittering surface, before they went back into the closet. Flurry clapped her hooves. "That was amazing Auntie Starlight," she said, looking up at Starlight with admiration. Starlight blushed. "I can teach you the spell some other time. I'll need to find a book with the spell in it. But your Uncle Sunburst was the first one who taught me that spell. If there's anyone to credit, it's him!" she said, pointing a hoof at Sunburst. It was Sunburst's turn to blush. "It was nothing Starlight," he said. A small part of him leapt with joy at hearing Starlight praise him. "I just showed you the spell. You did all the work on your own." The two ponies looked away from each other, a bit embarrassed by the praise. A large blush remained on their cheeks. Flurry watched them with a knowing grin on her face. "What do you say we try the cupcakes?" Starlight said, wanting to find any reason to move on to another topic. The other ponies nodded, and soon, all three of them were enjoying the delicious fruits of their hard work and success. > Mistletoe > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Can we save a few cupcakes for Mommy and Auntie Twilight?" Flurry asked with a mouth full of frosting. "Oh course Flurry," Starlight said. "They should get to taste your wonderful baked goods as well." Starlight's own muzzle was also covered in frosting. Sunburst laughed when he saw. "Umm Starlight? You have a little something..." Sunburst said, pointing at Starlight's mouth. Starlight tried wiping her mouth with her hoof, but was unsuccessful. "Here, let me," Sunburst said, levitating a towel over and wiping the frosting away. He stopped mid-wipe, realizing what he was doing. The two ponies stared into each other's eyes, turning red. They stayed in their position, not moving a single hair. Starlight recovered first. "Thank you," she said hastily, leaning back a bit. Sunburst, still red in the face, could only nod and put the towel away. Flurry watched the exchange with interest. It seemed as though Starlight and Sunburst had gotten even closer. But why aren't they kissing yet? she wondered. The ponies Mommy helps always kiss in the end. I'll have to try harder... The little filly stared at her half-eaten cupcake as if it would give her answers. Suddenly, it came to her. Mommy and Daddy always kiss under a green plant when it's Hearth's Warming Eve, she thought. "Auntie Starlight taught me conjuration earlier. If I conjure up a green plant, maybe they'll kiss!" "Ready to head to the library Flurry?" Starlight asked. "I think we have a bit more time to read before your Mommy comes to pick you up." Flurry nodded, and the three ponies got off their seats. Flurry waited till Sunburst and Starlight were a bit ahead of her, and with a little blast of magic, she managed to conjure up a little branch with green leaves. Hmm... Flurry thought. This doesn't really look like the ones Mommy and Daddy kiss under... Oh well. It'll probably work just fine. She sneakily levitated the branch above the doorway and hung it there. Now, all she had to do was wait... Sunburst and Starlight were about to pass the doorway when Sunburst realized something strange. "Umm Starlight? What's a mint plant doing above the door?" he asked uncertainly. Starlight looked up, and sure enough, there was a branch of a mint plant hanging right above the entrance of the kitchen. Starlight raised her eyebrow in confusion. "I have no idea," she answered truthfully. "But I should get rid of it. Twilight doesn't like things out of place." With a blast of her horn, the mint branch was gone. Behind them, Flurry pouted slightly. Turns out she conjured up the wrong plant. Well, she has one more chance to do it at the entrance of the library. But she'll have to hurry. "Uncle Sunburst, Auntie Starlight, I'll meet you at the library!" she exclaimed, before rushing towards her destination with all her might, disappearing from view. Sunburst and Starlight looked at each other before shrugging. Fillies were hard to understand. Flurry hurried to the entrance of the library. Once she arrived, she opened the door and closed her eyes in concentration. What did the plant look like? It had a bunch of little leaves, and little red berries, she thought. Auntie Starlight said that the spell works better if I think of the name as well. Mommy called the plant a mistle... mistletail? Mistletomb? No wait I got it! It's called a mistletoe! Flurry cast the spell again, and to her delight, the plant that appeared before her was exactly like the ones she had seen before. She quickly put it above the doorway again and ran inside the library. Flurry grabbed a book from the bookshelf so it seemed like she was occupied. To her luck, she had grabbed Cinderella, one of her favorite stories. Hoofsteps echoed in the hallway. Sunburst and Starlight had arrived. "Is that a... mistletoe?" Flurry heard Starlight ask uncertainly. She looked up from her book, happy to see Sunburst and Starlight standing underneath the plant. Both of them were blushing again. Sunburst gulped. "Well... it... it isn't Hearths Warming, so I... I don't think we have to kiss. Right?" he stammered frantically. "R... right," replied Starlight, who had suddenly became very interested in the carpet designs of the castle. "Lets ju... just go in..." Sunburst didn't notice, but there was a hint of despair in Starlight's voice. Oh forget it, Starlight thought. What were you thinking... Why would he want to kiss you... I'll just get rid of this thing... Starlight powered up her horn, and the mistletoe was gone in a flash. Unbeknownst to Starlight, Sunburst was wrapped up in his own thoughts regarding his own feelings. Should... should I have kissed her? Maybe I should have taken the chance... he thought. But she didn't even look at me! She got rid of the mistletoe just now! Who am I kidding. I'll never have a chance with her... Flurry watched the whole scene, scowling. She was getting fed up. So far, nothing, absolutely nothing had worked. Maybe she'll just have to force them to admit their feelings. How did her mommy make it look so easy? Now she was never going to impress her mommy now! Sunburst and Starlight walked up to Flurry. "Enjoying your book Flurry?" Sunburst asked. Flurry nodded absentmindly, too busy coming up with a new plan. Sunburst and Starlight just took it as a sign that Flurry was too caught up in her book, and went over to the couch. The two each grabbed a book and began reading from opposite sides of the couch. Sunburst shifted over slightly, as did Starlight. They didn't realize what they were doing. Somehow, someway, the two ended up being in the middle of the couch together, bodies touching. Starlight, noticing what had happened, flushed. "I'm sorry," she said moving away. Sunburst said the same, and he moved slightly away as well. And just like that, there was a gap between the two ponies again. At the same time, Flurry, who had long since became uninterested in her storybook, frowned. She's had enough. "That's it! I've had enough!" she yelled, standing up and closing her book shut. Sunburst and Starlight looked at her, shocked at the outburst. "You two are going to admit your feelings to each other, and you're going to do it now! You're gonna do what Auntie Applejack taught me to do. Be honest!" Flurry continued, scowling. Her horn glowed, and soon a yellow bubble was formed around the confused Sunburst and surprised Starlight. They were trapped. > Confessions > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "FLURRY HEART!" an enraged Starlight yelled from inside the bubble. She banged on the side of the bubble loudly. "Let us out RIGHT NOW! What's gotten into you?" Flurry Heart only shook her head. "Nuh-uh," she said, sitting on the floor stubbornly. "You two are gonna admit you like each other. I tried being like Mommy the entire day, but none of it worked! I'm taking matters into my own hooves!" Sunburst and Starlight could only glare at her through the bubble. "Wait," Starlight said. Something clicked in her head. "The spaghetti, the game Pinkie came up with, the mistletoe, that was all you wasn't it?" Sunburst gasped and face-hoofed. "Of course," he groaned. "We've been played by the daughter of the princess of love." Flurry said nothing. only grinning at the trapped ponies. "Maaaaaaybeeeeee..." she said, giggling, before a frown framed her face. "But none of it worked." Starlight tried to blast the bubble with magic, but it was no use. The bubble wouldn't budge. "How did she get so good at shield spells?" Starlight grumbled. "She's only five! She doesn't even have a cutie mark!" Sunburst sighed. "Shining Armor's been teaching her, plus she's an alicorn. But I didn't know that she had gotten this good," he answered. "And I don't she's gonna let us out unless we talk. About our... umm... crushes apparently." The stallion blushed. Starlight sighed. Looks like there was no delaying the inevitable now. "Well the thing is Sunburst..." Starlight said. She looked down, her ears touching her head. The mare avoided Sunburst's curious gaze. "I kind of... have a crush on well... you... I guess I... well... I guess I like like you..." Starlight didn't have the strength to use the "l" word yet. Finally gaining the confidence to look Sunburst in the eye, she expected him to be aghast. To be disgusted. To be angry. What she didn't expect was for Sunburst to smile at her. And not just a tiny smile. Sunburst was full on grinning, his face threatening to split into two. "Really?" he asked, unable to believe his ears. "The thing is Starlight... I kind of... like like you as well..." Starlight turned deep pink from her muzzle to the tip of her ears. Sunburst likes me as well? she thought, unsure. But... but I almost destroyed the world! How can he ever like me the same way! "You... like me as well?" Starlight said shyly. "Even after I almost destroyed our entire world by messing with time and also started a cult?" Sunburst chuckled. "But look at you now! You're a princess's former protégé, and you're a trusted member of the faculty of one of the most famous schools in Equestria! I'm just a crystaller... Not to mention school drop out..." Sunburst said. Starlight turned a deeper shade of red. "You're a royal crystaller. That's a title that not many have held in the past," she said, putting a reassuring hoof on his. They both turned even darker at the contact, but unlike the many times before, neither pulled away. Sunburst cleared his throat. "So umm Starlight?" he asked. "Will you be my... umm... marefriend? I'd understand if you didn't want to and—" He was cut of by Starlight putting her mouth to his, kissing him. Sunburst paused for a moment, surprised by the gesture, before he started kissing back. The kiss was slow and sweet like honey. Neither pony wanted it to end. Flurry smiled and awwed when she saw them kissing. She had succeeded! Slowly, she got rid of the bubble, releasing her two victims. Who were still kissing. Starlight smiled into the kiss. After a few more moments, she finally pulled back. "Yes," she said. "Yes. I'll be your marefriend." Sunburst smiled and pulled Starlight into a hug. She didn't resist, and the two stayed in that position for a while. Flurry walked up to them, looking a bit remorseful. "I'm sorry I trapped you two in a bubble," she said sadly. "I couldn't help myself! I wanted to make you two confess your love, and I wanted be just like Mommy and make her proud! Plus, Auntie Applejack said that you should always be honest and you two were definitely not honest!" Flurry said it all very quickly and in a breath. Sunburst and Starlight untangled from their hug. Starlight pat Flurry on the head gently. "Breathe Flurry," she chuckled, before her expression changed to a much stricter one. "I hope you know it's very wrong to trap ponies in magic bubbles little filly. Even if you want what's best for them." Flurry nodded earnestly, and Starlight's face softened. Flurry did have the best intentions at heart. And she's learned her lesson from the looks of it. Smiling, she crouched down. "That being said, thank you Flurry," she said. The alicorn looked at Starlight in shock. "You were a very smart little matchmaker. I would never have confessed my feelings without you," Starlight continued. "But remember next time don't trap ponies in giant bubbles to make them confess their love. Okay?" Flurry nodded happily, then gave Starlight and Sunburst a big hug. Sunburst smiled, and pat Flurry on the head. His smile widened when he felt Starlight lean on him and nuzzle him. "I thank you too as well Flurry," he said, putting a hoof around the filly. Their giant hug was interrupted when the sound of the front door opening was heard. "We're home!" came Twilight's voice. The three ponies dashed down, eager to see Twilight and Cadance after the long day. "Mommy!" Flurry said, giving her mother a giant hug. Cadance chuckled. "Hi sweetie. Did you have a nice day?" Flurry nodded. "I made Uncle Sunburst and Auntie Starlight become a couple!" she said, puffing out her chest proudly. "You did?" Twilight asked with glee, looking at Starlight. "She did," Starlight said in confirmation. She quickly told them all about their interesting day. "Then last but not least, she created a giant bubble to trap me and Sunburst so that we would finally confess our love. That plan finally worked," Starlight finished. "So yeah. Me and Sunburst are dating now." She and Sunburst both blushed at the last sentence. Cadance looked at them, but surprisingly, she wasn't shocked. Neither was Twilight. Instead, Cadance smirked, looking over at a pouting Twilight. "Pay up," Cadance said, holding out a goof. Twilight grumbled before taking out a few bits and placing them onto her waiting hoof. Sunburst and Starlight stared at the whole exchange, surprised. "You bet on us?" Sunburst asked. Cadance laughed. "I bet Twilight that my daughter would come up with plans to get you two together, but my dear sister in law disagreed," she explained. "Looks like I was right." She looked at Twilight victoriously, who grimaced. "Never make bets about with the princess of love," she grumbled. "Especially ones involving her daughter..." "Well Flurry always talked about how she Sunburst and Starlight are always blushing around each other. She thought that they were perfect together, didn't you Flurry?" Cadance said, nuzzling Flurry. "With both of them babysitting Flurry today, I just thought that Flurry might take advantage of it. Speaking of which, where did you learn about all those little tricks honey?" Flurry giggled, giving her mother a huge smile. "I learnt them from you! I wanted to be like you for the day and help ponies fall in love!" The others all chuckled, and Twilight gave her niece a hug. "Well Flurry, I think you did I wonderful job," she said. Starlight laughed. "Well, that aside, since me, my new coltfriend and Flurry saved up some cupcakes for you, care to eat them?" Twilight's ears perked up. "Well I don't know about you Cadance, but I'm famished. Let's go!" she said, heading to the kitchen. Cadance and Flurry giggled and followed. Starlight shook her head, chuckling, amused. She felt a hoof wrap around her, and smiled when she looked at Sunburst. "Come on. We should go as well," he said. Starlight smiled and gave him a peck on the cheek, making him blush. Outside, Celestia's sun was setting, casting a pink glow onto the castle. Starlight caught sight of the beautiful view from one of the windows. "Let's wait a bit and just enjoy the moment," she said, sitting in front of the window and enjoying the sunset. Sunburst smiled and sat down beside her. Starlight leaned on him, and he put his hoof around her shoulder. Starlight let out a contented sigh. Life was good.
