In all honesty, after the experience she had today, she felt that this type of response was justified. In just one day, she had single-handedly reformed an entire race of Changelings, went through a dangerous hive, and faced off against Queen Chrysalis herself. It was a rewarding experience but it was also a very scary one. She had to witness both Discord and Trixie sacrifice themselves for the sake of letting Starlight and Thorax go on, Thorax almost having the love sucked out of him, Chrysalis being an abusive monster to her subjects, and even then, she’s still out there. Suddenly, the light to the library turned on and she found Twilight standing at the entrance. “What are you doing here?” Twilight asked, not out of annoyance or anger but genuine curiosity. “Couldn’t sleep. You?” Starlight replied simply. “Same here.” Twilight admitted sadly. “Am I right to assume it’s because of the whole… kidnapping situation?” Starlight said awkwardly, hoping not to upset her friend. “Yeah… it wasn’t easy dealing with Chrysalis again.” Twilight shuddered which Starlight was surprised by, considering Twilight’s track record of villains, she was surprised to hear that seeing Chrysalis again sparked some negative emotions. Then again, she was kidnapped. “How bad was she?” Starlight asked solemnly. “She made me believe my sister in law turned into a monster, brainwashed my brother excessively, and turned my friends and family against me…” Twilight admitted with tears threatening to pool out of her eyes, “I had to start seeing a therapist after how much she affected me and thankfully I recovered by the time I became a princess.” “Oh Celestia…” Starlight gasped in silent shock, Queen Chrysalis was enough to bring Twilight Sparkle of all ponies to the point where she had to get therapy?! She felt horrible for Twilight, no one deserved to suffer what she went through. “Did… I ever have that affect on you?” Starlight gulped remorsefully, she already felt guilty for her past actions before but if she was beginning to see that Twilight wasn’t as guarded as she thought… “No.” Twilight shook her head sincerely, “I’ll admit seeing those futures were pretty unsettling but it took me a day to realize that they didn’t happen, the fact you willingly gave up your revenge plans helped me adapt to your actions quickly.” Starlight sadly smiled at this, she was glad that she didn’t hurt Twilight like Chrysalis did but she could have and could have done the same to her former villagers too. Another regret to add to her mental checklist she supposed. “I’m sorry.” Starlight embraced Twilight with tears in her eyes. “Starlight, I think we’re past the point of-“ Twilight began before Starlight interrupted. “No. I don’t care whether I had a lasting impact on you or not, I’ll never stop being remorseful for what I did to you.” Starlight said sternly, “And… I think after hearing what you went through, you deserve to hear it.” “Thank you Starlight.” Twilight smiled at the unicorn who smiled back before she asked, “So… enough about me. How come you can’t sleep?” “I… I’ve never saved the world before and… it honestly is a mixed bag for me.” Starlight admits nervously. “How come?” Twilight raised an eyebrow. “Well… it’s a rewarding experience, I learned a lot from it and got a confidence boost for sure but at the same time, I had to watch all my friends suffer. Whether it be from you all being hanged in those cocoon things, to watching Discord and Trixie be forced to sacrifice themselves, and force Thorax to have his love forcibly drained from him due to Chrysalis and…” Starlight began ranting before shuddering at the end in which Twilight threw a wing around her. “Would you believe me if I told you I had similar thoughts?” Twilight asked softly. “Really? Your friends always talk about how awesome it is to save the world.” Starlight raised an eyebrow. “Yeah… and it is most of the time.” Twilight twiddled her hooves, “But I can only put up with so many Discord, Sombra, and Tirek attacks before I start to get anxious about the fate of the world. I learn a lot from my experiences but I could do without having to fight evil monsters all the time. The only time I felt saving Equestria was fully rewarding was when I had to fight you.” “Really?!” Starlight asked incredulously. “Of course. I didn’t have to banish you or anything too severe. Instead I gained an ally, a student, and a friend and in all honesty, it was worth having to deal with the bad.” Twilight admitted happily. “In a way… I kinda agree.” Starlight chuckled before adding, “Though I’d rather never have to go through that again.” “Oh absolutely, I hate time travel.” Twilight playfully ribbed Starlight’s shoulder before they both broke into a giggling fit before finally settling down. Honestly, moments like these calmed Starlight down. Starlight’s eyes brightened, she had an idea in her mind, but it was a pretty bold ask. “Hey Twilight… do you mind sleeping with me tonight…” Starlight began asking which caused Twilight to raise an eyebrow before Starlight clarified, “Not for any of that, good gracious no, but I don’t wanna be alone tonight.” Twilight smiled before lighting up her horn and teleporting them both to her bed, “In all honesty, I don’t want to be alone either.” Twilight admitted before getting under the covers to which Starlight did the same. “Good night Twilight.” Starlight said happily. “Good night Starlight.” Twilight wrapped a hoof around Starlight calmly in a silent way to assure her that she’d be there for her. As Twilight and Starlight slept that night, they both shared a solidarity. Both of them would be there for them when they were feeling down and would also be there for each other whenever there was trouble. While they didn’t have the best meeting and the circumstances were pretty messy, they were glad to have found each other and they definitely did not want to let each other go.
