> Music be the Food of Love > by Lil Sunny > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > On the Road of her Heart > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- It was a night like any other in Manehattan. The streets were quiet after the hustle and bustle of the day was done, the neon lighted clubs and shining street lamps illuminated the city and many ponies were out partying. Lyra would normally count herself among them but today she was at home in her apartment. She’d recently discovered that an old friend of hers from University lives in Ponyville, in fact she owns and operates her own confectioners shop there. Bon Bon was a fairly standard earth pony all things considered, just a pretty mare with a talent for baking sweets, but Lyra thought differently. While in University, the two were inseparable. Lyra was the first to try her new sweets and she was always there to lend an ear to a hapless musician. Lyra scraped past her education mostly thanks to Bon Bon’s encouragement but the two went their separate ways afterwards. Lyra stayed in Manehattan hoping to rustle up some bits from her busking and gigs but nobody really wanted a lyre in a city full of booming techno music and loud beats. So she took a minimum wage job at a cafe to pay for her accommodation. She lasted one month in Manehattan before she was relying on alcohol to numb the pain of a mundane, joyless life. She decided to go to Ponyville and see her old friend again. Maybe the mare that was always her voice of reason and encouragement in University could guide her again. The minty unicorn slumped into an old beat up armchair and sighed. “Man, what was I thinking? I could’ve gone with her to Ponyville and started a new life there. Sure I had pals here but they’re long gone. You always regret something you did at uni huh?” She took a swig of a bottle of whiskey.  “I need to kick this stuff, no more alcohol when I move away from here. It’s gonna be a new me. I just hope Bonny can show me how to be a new me. Cause I ain’t got no idea.” She sighed and finished her drink. Throwing it into the trash can she slowly got up and went to her bed. “Life’s real lonely sometimes. I wish I had a partner to share my bed with. Then I wouldn’t have to rely on Bonny so much. She probably doesn’t want to keep helping me all the time.” She sighed one more time before trying to get some sleep. She was woken the next morning by an alarm clock telling her the time was 8 AM. She got out of bed groggily and went to grab some water and toast before packing a saddlebag with bits, a comb and her beloved Lyre. “So long Manehattan, I hope I never need to see you again.” A short walk through the city took her to the train station where she caught the next train to Ponyville.  “Alright, I made it. But where the hay is her store? Damn, I knew there was something I forgot.” A bubbly looking pink pony bounded up towards Lyra and smiled wide. “Hi! I’m Pinkie Pie! Why so glum chum? Turn that frown upside down silly filly.” Lyra chuckled. “Thanks, I’m Lyra. I’m looking for a friend of mine, she’s got some kinda sweet shop in town.” “Ohhh, Bon Bon? Town square, left side. Third from the top. She got a real nice spot for that place. A lot of kids go past it every day. Of course she’s not competing with the local bakery, she's just doing her own thing. I should know I work for the Cakes.” “Hey, thanks Pinkie. I’ll be sure to see you around.” Lyra walked away with a smile on her face. She found the exact store she was looking for and entered, a small bell above the door rang to signal a customer and Bon Bon turned around from the kitchen door. “Welcome to Bon Bon- no way. It couldn’t be. Lyra!? Lyra Heartstrings!? Oh my goodness! What are you doing in Ponyville!?” She dived over the counter practically tackling the mint coloured mare with a hug. “It’s nice to see you too Bon Bon.” she sighed. “I guess I just got sick of the big city. Nobody wants my skills, I’m alone and I was working some stupid minimum wage job for a sexist prick of a stallion. I quit a couple of days ago. Pal of mine, Derpy Hooves. She was visiting Manehattan and she told me she delivered mail to someone matching your description. So I put 2 and 2 together and figured you were here somewhere. Course I should’ve remembered you were coming here after uni, but hey memory was never my strong point.” “Well it’s very nice to have my old friend here. It’s a shame you’re so far away. I'd love to hang out more often.” “Actually…you might get that chance. I’m leaving Manehattan. I am so sick of that place. This town looks real cozy and I hear there’s a market for busking and performance. Course I’d need somewhere to stay till I got my own place and I’m coming here with a lyre, some bits and a comb so I don’t exactly have many worldly possessions either. It’s tough but it’s better than staying there.” “Well, I could offer you a couch if that’s enough for you. I only have one bedroom or I’d offer you a bed. If you want out of the city that bad I’d be happy to give you a place to stay.” “That’s another thing too Bonny, I got so used to the city. The nightlife, the booze, the freedom. I kinda forgot what it’s like to just be a regular old town pony. I was hoping you could teach me. And help me kick the drink.” Bon Bon rolled her eyes. “Of course Lyra, I’d never leave you high and dry. Well maybe dry but that’s for the best.” She giggled. “And I have another idea too. I was looking to hire some entertainment for the store. Someone to play some music while people wait for their order. Maybe come in back and help fill some orders if there’s a backlog. Know any talented musicians looking for work?” She smirked. “You’re offering me a place to stay, and a job, and help with adjusting to a new town? Bonny what did I ever do to deserve a mare like you. I could totally kiss you right now.” Bon Bon blushed. “Not appropriate Lyra, but yes I’d be happy to employ you. I think I’ll close the store today and spend some time with you. I didn’t have anyone coming in today anyway so far.” “You sure Bon Bon? I don’t want you losing business on my account.” Bon Bon flipped the sign to closed and dimmed the downstairs lights. “I’m sure, now come on up. I live above the store.” “So Lyra, can I get you anything? A drink or a snack maybe?”  “I’d kill for a soda, and if you got any sweets lying around I’d take some.” Bon Bon left the room and returned with a can of Colta Cola and A small paper bag full of chocolate balls. “Made them myself yesterday, they’ve been setting in the fridge overnight. I like to make myself some sweets now and then, can’t sell everything I make now can I?” She giggled again. Lyra tried one. “Damn Bonny, you still got it. I remember trying your new recipes every time you came up with one back at Uni. Those were the days.” “You know I remember those days fondly too. I remember a lost mare not believing in her own abilities. And I remember more than one late night practice session with the only thing keeping you awake being a combination of coffee and some of my special sugared donuts.” “Yeah, I thought you didn’t try to compete with the bakery here though. That’s what Pinkie said anyway.” “I don’t. The only baked goods I make are ones they don’t. Most of my stuff is candies, chocolate and sweets anyway. We sometimes trade recipes too, and help each other improve our own. Heck earlier this year on Hearts and Hooves day I just sold them a bunch of chocolates to sell for me so I could take the day off. Of course it would have been nicer if I had a partner to celebrate with but hey. That’ll come someday.” “So how come you ain’t got nobody Bonny? Mare like you with skills like that, you’d have the fillies falling off your hooves. Or stallions if that’s your thing.” “Well Lyra, the truth is. I’ve never wanted anyone. And I’m just not sure if I can say why.” “Come on Bonny, you can trust me with anything I swear.” “No I mean, It’s tough to put into words. Any time I saw a couple come in for some sweets I was a little jealous. But any time I saw a pretty mare on the street, I felt nothing. But as soon as you came through that door my heart beat so much faster. It felt like I was going to explode with happiness.” “Wait, Bonny. You ain’t saying what I think you are. Are you?” “I don’t know, what do you think I’m saying?” Lyra smirked. “You totally got the hots for me girl, and you have since University. Am I right?” Bon Bon sighed. “You know, I think you might be.” Lyra slid over and put a hoof around her shoulders. “Hey. It’s fine Bonny, I get it. We were pals all through Uni, makes sense one of us might have felt something more. But why didn’t you say something? I’d have came to Ponyville with you in a heartbeat if we were an item.” “It’s not as easy as just coming out with your feelings Lyra. I was embarrassed and scared you’d say no. For all I knew you just wanted to be friends.” “Well hey sweetie, I’m here now and I’m not leaving. I’d love to give us a chance. Where should we go on our first date? And more importantly when?” “I know the perfect place. It’s a great restaurant on the south side of town. Gustave’s. As for when. How about tomorrow night? That’ll give us time to prepare. I’ve got a dress but I don’t think you've got one in that bag of yours. Go see Rarity at Carousel Boutique, she’ll make you look like a million bits.” “Alright but for now. How about this?” Lyra pulled Bon Bon down into her lap and held her close. “You always sat weird Lyra. But I guess if you didn’t then we couldn’t do this together.” Bon Bon cuddled into Lyra’s underbelly and sighed A short while later the sun began to set and Lyra’s stomach rumbled. Bon Bon giggled. “Hungry Lyra?” “I guess so, I haven’t eaten since breakfast aside from that snack you gave me. You any good at actual cooking? I only ever saw your baking skills.” “I took a cooking course at University and you’re asking me if I can cook? Honestly Lyra what’s next? Of course I can cook. You just sit tight and I’ll handle the rest.” Bon Bon left for the kitchen and began preparing some food. She roasted some carrots in the oven and sliced up fresh vegetables to make a salad, she threw some ingredients together and made a dressing too. When she was done she plated up two plates of roast carrot and salad. Lyra took a bite and smiled. “Wow Bonny, this is great. Guess I can look forward to this if we’re together.” Bon Bon smirked. “Oh no you don’t. I’m not going to be cooking every single night. You’ll learn to cook too and you’ll make dinner sometimes when I need a break. Don’t worry I’ll teach you everything you need to know.” Lyra gulped. “Heh, well alright I guess. I suppose I do have to bring my fair share to our relationship if I want to be part of it. I can’t expect you to do everything. I’ll do my best for you Bonny.” “That’s what I like to hear. I’ve got some home made chocolate mousse for dessert if you want some.” “What kind of girl would turn down chocolate? Of course I’ll take some.” Bon Bon took the plates into the kitchen and returned with two dessert glasses filled with chocolate mousse, whipped cream and a cherry. “Woah, fancy. I hope it tastes as good as it looks.” “Lyra honey, you eat with your eyes first. Presentation is everything for fine dining. If it looks good enough to eat, then you want to eat it even more.” “Yeah and it helps when It’s made by a talented and beautiful mare like you sweet cheeks.” Bon Bon giggled and a noticeable red tinge appeared on her milky cheeks. “Oh stop it you. I always do my best for everyone to enjoy what I make. I’ve never had a complaint yet and I don’t want to start getting them now.” “So, Bonny. Pal o mine, Marefriend. Sweetie.” “Lyra, quit the buttering up, what do you want?” “Nothing, I was just wondering if I still had to sleep on the couch that’s all, since we’re an item and stuff.” “We’re not official yet, not until we have our date. But I’ll make an exception for my oldest friend. Don’t think it’s this easy for any old mare to get in bed with me though. I do have standards.” Lyra smirked. “Then I guess I’m well above your standards huh? I knew I was great.” Bon Bon pulled her into a tight hug. “Keep telling yourself that honey.” “Can’t, breathe.” Bon Bon squeezed tighter before letting her go. “I may not be as strong as someone like Applejack, but Earth Ponies still pack a punch in a pinch. How did you like my bearhug? Are you going to tone down the ego now sweetie?” Lyra smirked and an aura of green enveloped Bon Bon and began to tickle her. “Haha! Stop that!” She tried to speak through fits of laughter. “O-ok, you made your-ha ha! Point already Lyra.” “You’d do well to remember what Unicorns are capable of, Bonny. But I gotta admit I’m impressed with your strength.” “It helps carrying heavy groceries down the streets after doing a big grocery shop. I get most of my ingredients delivered to the door from a wholesaler but some stuff you just gotta buy special. And I get my own personal shopping done in the market too.” The two made their way into the bedroom where a large queen sized bed sat in the middle of the back wall with a small bedside table, a dresser and mirror with a decent sized wardrobe finishing off the room. Bon Bon climbed into bed and patted the bed beside her. “Come on in Lyra, My bed is nice and cozy.” Lyra got in beside her and Bon Bon pulled the covers up over them both. “You’re right, this is cozy, but I know how to be even cozier.” Lyra held Bon Bon close to her and she in turn snuggled into Lyra’s chest. “Oh shoot, I forgot the light. Now I’m going to have to get out of bed.” Bon Bon moped. Lyra smirked and flipped the light switch with magic. “You’re in bed with a Unicorn Bonny, I can do things you can’t.” Bon Bon giggled. “Well maybe if you’re a good girl I’ll show you what kind of things I can do in bed.” She narrowed her eyes and bit her bottom lip. Lyra blushed bright red. “Easy tiger, we’re not there yet. Let’s just get some shut-eye for now.” Bon Bon giggled again. “I know Lyra, I was kidding. Maybe someday, not today though. Goodnight my minty marefriend.” “Goodnight sweet flanks.” Lyra smirked, causing Bon Bon to blush. The two fell asleep happy and together. > A love never lost > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The next morning the pair woke up in each other’s hooves as Lyra let a loud yawn. “Good morning Bonny, you awake yet?” Bon Bon yawned as her eyes fluttered open. “Yeah I’m awake. I slept like a log last night. I could get used to this arrangement.”  The two got out of bed and went into the kitchen to grab some cereal. “Now Lyra, I do have to open the store today. But you can take some time to get to know the town layout, and check out Carousel Boutique for a dress. Rarity owes me for catering her dinner party in Canterlot last month.” “Alright Bonny, knock 'em dead. I’ll go see this Rarity chick and get prettied up for our date. I guess I’ll see you later then.” Lyra left the store and wandered around town for a while, taking in the market, the town square and everything else the place had to offer.  “Alright, I think I got a good idea of where everything is now. So where’s this Boutique Bonny mentioned?” “Beg your pardon dear, but would you perhaps be looking for Carousel Boutique?” Spoke a voice behind her. She turned around and saw a white pony with a curled purple mane and a cutie mark of diamonds. “Yeah, you know it?” The mare chuckled. “I dare say I do, after all I am its owner and proprietor. Rarity at your service.” She gave a short bow. “Sweet, my marefriend said I could get a pretty dress from you for our date tonight.” “I’m sure I’ll have something to suit you dear, follow me please.” As they walked Rarity nudged closer to her. “If you don’t mind me asking. Who is this marefriend of yours?” “Oh, her name is Bon Bon, she’s a confectioner.” “Oh my. Bon Bon has a partner? Well it’s about time. That mare has been lovesick for years, I’ve seen it with my own two eyes. I suppose you’ll be cashing that favour I owe to her then?” “Yeah if that’s ok. I’m Lyra by the way. Lyra Heartstrings. I was friends with Bon Bon back in University but we kinda went different ways. These days I kinda wish I’d stuck with her. Would have been better than wasting 2 months in Manehattan with a minimum wage job and nobody looking for my musical talent.” “We all have regrets in life darling. What matters is working towards a better future.” As Rarity spoke she skillfully measured all parts of Lyra’s body and produced a few dresses from the rack nearby. “Well, these are ready-made and ready to be taken. However if you’ll indulge me for a moment I may be able to create something original just for you. It will take a few hours but I promise it will look fabulous.” “Sure, I got time. You need me here for it or can I come back later?” “You could, but if you were here then you could give your opinion on choice of fabric, colour and things of that nature. I know what I like the look of, but that doesn’t mean it’s to everyone’s taste darling.” “Sure I guess. You got anything to drink?” “Water, Juice or something harder?” Lyra chuckled. “I’m going dry for a bit, trying to kick the habit you know? I’ll take some juice thanks.” Rarity brought her a glass of orange juice as she sat and watched the seamstress at work. Every stitch was perfect, every piece of the puzzle came together wonderfully. She picked a light blue colour with white accent trims. It looked beautiful. After three and a half hours it was almost finished. “For the finishing touches we just need to see it on you. In case I need to tuck or trim anything.” Lyra stepped into the dress and spun slowly, looking at herself in the mirror. “Wow, I look great! Thanks Rarity. I won’t forget this I promise. If you ever need a model for a day just let me know.” “I might take you up on that offer sometime. Now go and enjoy yourself, have a good evening darling!” She sang as Lyra left the store, a new dress in her hooves. She returned to her new home and found Bon Bon upstairs crocheting a blanket. “Oh there you are Lyra. I was wondering where you ended up. Our reservations are in an hour. How’d your dress hunt go?” “Rarity is so cool! She measured me and then made me a custom dress right on the spot. I picked the colours and everything. Man that was so generous. Sorry I wasted your favour Bonny.” “I told you to find her because I knew she was great. You didn’t waste anything Lyra honey.” Bon Bon smiled as she continued her crochet. “What’s with the knitting grandma?” Bon Bon rolled her eyes. “It’s crochet you goofball. I’m making a blanket for us. I’ve made a couple of little things already. I want to make some nice things for our home. Fluttershy showed me how to get started, she gave me a book too if you ever want to give it a shot.” “Pass, it looks a little boring to me. But hey if you’re into it then don’t let me stop you, it looks great already.” After another 15 minutes the pair got changed into their dresses and linked hooves as they walked out into the cool evening. Bon Bon’s dress was a striking pink with a sky blue trim and gemstones on the neck. “Did I ever tell you how great you look Bonny?” Lyra smirked. “Only a hundred times today honey. You look great too. Now come on, Gustave’s is a fine dining establishment. It won’t look good for us if we’re late for our reservation.”  They arrived and were greeted by a pony in a suit at the door. “Good evening ladies, I’m afraid we’re all booked out unless you already have a reservation.” “Reservation for Bon Bon? Table for 2. I was here a few hours ago.” “Ah. Miss Bon Bon of course, right this way. This must be the marefriend you mentioned. Here are your menus, may I start you with a drink?” “I’ll have a cider thank you.” Bon Bon said looking at the menu. “You sure Bonny? That stuff ain’t good for you.” “Lyra, some of us can enjoy a little drink now and then without drowning ourselves in it. Why don’t you have one too? You need to wean yourself off it instead of just taking a freefall without any.” “Alright then, why don’t we share some wine instead?” “Ooh good idea Lyra. forget the cider. Sorry sir, we would like a bottle of your finest red wine please.” “Excellent choice ladies. I shall return momentarily.” The two mares looked at the menus and each other, silently smiling and admiring their partner. “So Lyra, what looks good?” “You do. But if you’re talking about the menu, I think that Griffonstone salad sounds delicious.” “Yes, but I don’t feel like a salad for my main course tonight. Maybe a side, I think i’ll go for the steamed seasonal vegetables.” Bon Bon said while blushing. “In that case I’ll take the mountain style noodles and veg broth. With a salad on the side. I tell ya, the more I hear about that Kirin village up in the mountains, the more I want to see it.” “Fluttershy told me all about it. She said her and Applejack were sent there to solve a friendship problem. Turns out the village was silent, used a magic stream to suppress their emotions. One kirin found a cure and she needed help convincing the village to cure themselves. Then they started trading with Equestria and some of them began exploring, writing recipe books. All sorts of exports.” The waiter returned with two wine glasses and a bottle of red wine. “Here you are ladies, are you ready to order?” “Yes sir, thank you.” Bon Bon gave her order followed by Lyra and the stallion left as the two continued to banter. “So Bonny, tell me. How’d you get started here in Ponyville? Sure you’re good, but no way you’d have enough cash just fresh out of university to open your own place.” “Actually I did. I worked a side job in my last 2 years at uni. I was a waitress. Some of the customers were generous tippers so I ended up saving a bundle. Our place was going cheap for anyone who wanted to turn it into a business. Mayor Mare is always looking for opportunities to attract more ponies to the town. And what better way than a sweet shop? Well, I prefer confectioner’s shop, but sweet shop is easier for the kids to say. I’d say kids coming from the Ponyville Schoolhouse are probably my biggest customers. They love my cookies, chocolates and candies.” “Sweet. And you don’t have any competition from that bakery in town?” “Who, Sugarcube Corner? Nah. they’re great. They make more pastries and cakes. I stick to sweets mostly. But I do a few baked goods too like cookies. We work together sometimes on bigger projects. Pinkie was throwing a party just last week and The Cakes were busy running the store so she asked me to cater it. I don’t mind making some extra stuff for a good party, especially if it lands me a nice hoof full of bits.” Bon Bon giggled. Their food came and they both sampled each other’s dish as well as enjoying their own food. “Wow this stuff is killer. Good call Bonny.” “Thanks, I heard from Fluttershy it was a good place. Her friend Twilight came here one evening on her own for a meal and loved it.” “You seem quite friendly with this Fluttershy gal. She a pal of yours?” “Yeah, she’s a bit shy but when you get to know her she’s really kind and she loves animals. We always bond over our love of the little critters and she likes my baking too. I told you she showed me how to start Crocheting too. I’ll have to bring you to meet her sometime.” After their meal the waiter came back with a smile. “Would you ladies like to see the dessert menu?” “What do you think Bonny, got room in there for a little sweetness?” “Well I’ve got enough sweetness just across the table. But yeah I could go for dessert.” She smirked. Lyra blushed. “Dessert menus please, thank you sir.” They split a large sundae and enjoyed every bite. In the end Lyra had a bit of cream on her nose and Bon Bon licked it off. “Hey, save that for later Bonny, we can get frisky when we go home.” Bon Bon giggled. “I’m just teasing you sweetie. Shall we pay and head back?” Bon Bon counted out her bits and paid the waiter, with a good tip. The pair of mares then walked through the evening to arrive back home. Lyra yawned. “Tired sweetie?” Bon Bon asked. “I guess so. Been a long day. But I’m glad I made the right choice to move here. I guess we're still sleeping together then? “Oh yeah. I’ve been thinking about it all evening and we had a perfect date. We’re together now and I’d be a monster if i made you sleep on the couch after that. No, you’re sleeping beside me. No questions asked.” “Sweet, shall we hit the hay then?” “Sure thing Lyra honey.” The two of them walked into their now shared bedroom and crawled under the covers. Bon Bon snuggled up to Lyra and sighed. “I was missing out not having someone beside me. I was getting really lonely you know. But I knew deep in my heart I was waiting. For who or what I didn’t know, but now I do. I was waiting for you. I guess I’ve always loved you.” “Same here Bonny, I wish I could go back and tell my younger self to not be a dumbass and follow you to Ponyville. There was nothing for me in Manehattan, I don’t know why I stuck around as long as I did. But now we’re together and I couldn’t be happier.” She kissed Bon Bon’s forehead. “Well, goodnight Lyra sweetie.” “Goodnight Bonny, sweet dreams.” The pair drifted off in each other’s hooves.  > Looking Ahead > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- It had been a few days since Lyra moved to Ponyville, her personal relationship with Bon Bon was always saved for the evening after the shop was closed. During the day she played her lyre as Bon Bon sold her sweets, sometimes the customers would stand a moment and listen before approaching the counter. When the day got too hectic, she put the instrument down and left to help Bon Bon in the back by packaging whatever sweets were asked for, or restocking the displays in the front. All in all Bon Bon had seen booming business and received many compliments all because of her minty marefriend. One week after Lyra’s first day, Bon Bon decided to do something special. She left Lyra downstairs to take stock as she went upstairs and prepared a roasted marrow and plenty of side vegetables which she set on a candle lit table with two presently empty glasses and a bottle of fine red wine.  Lyra sniffed once, then twice and could smell something delicious upstairs, she kept doing her job but the minute she was finished she dimmed the downstairs lights and climbed up to their home above the shop. “What’s cookin’ good lookin’?” She smirked. Bon Bon giggled. “Oh you, come on in dinner’s ready.” Lyra sat at the table and her mout began to water at the massive marrow in front of her. “Something that big isn’t cheap Bonny, what’s the occasion? And wine too? You’re going all out for something.” “Lyra honey, it’s our one week anniversary. That’s an excuse to celebrate if I ever heard it.” “Well alright then. You gonna carve this baby up or what?” “Patience honey, good things come to those who wait.” Bon Bon giggled again and took a large carving knife and fork to the marrow, taking a few slices off it and adding them to Lyra’s plate, then her own. Lyra cut a piece off one slice and tried it, her face immediately lit up at the succulent taste. “Holy Celestia this is great, damn like, whoa. I knew you were a good cook Bonny but this is ridiculous. It’s seasoned perfectly, it’s tender and juicy. So good.” She continued to eat her marrow slices and salad with a big smile on her face. “Thanks honey, would you like a glass of Wine?” “Sure Bonny why not?” Lyra couldn’t keep the smile off her face as Bon Bon poured two glasses of wine for them. “A toast, to one week together and many more to come.” Bon Bon said proudly. “I hear that. To us.” Lyra raised her glass too and the two clinked their glasses before taking a sip of the crimson elixir inside. “So Bonny, you got a dessert too?” “Of course I do, but you’re gonna have to clean your plate if you want some.” “Not a problem with how good this stuff is. You’re gonna keep that in the fridge for another day right? I’d hate to see something this tasty get wasted.” “Absolutely honey. I know how to keep food fresh for as long as I need it.” Lyra finished her plate of food and Bon Bon took both plates into the sink before finding space in the fridge for the marrow and then bringing out two tall glasses. Inside each she put a few scoops of ice cream, some chocolate shavings, sprinkles, chocolate sauce and a wafer before placing both on the table with two long dessert spoons. “A chocolate sundae for my sweet and saucy marefriend.” Bon Bon smirked. “Don’t mind if I do Bonny.” Lyra took a spoonful of everything together and smiled. “Man I love sweet stuff.”  Bon Bon chuckled. “Don’t I know it? Count yourself lucky you decided to date a confectioner then honey.” “Oh I’m one lucky mare, but not just because your sweets are awesome, which they are. But because you’re awesome too Bonny, you’re the best thing that ever happened to me and I was stupid to almost let it slip through my hooves. But now I’m here with you and I’m not leaving. Not now and not ever. I want to be by your side forever.”  Bon Bon blushed. “Oh Lyra, that’s the most romantic thing any pony has ever said to me….mostly. I’m glad you think of me like that, I think you’re really talented too, in a different way. You have skills I don’t and vice versa. We make each other better and that’s the mark of a good relationship. No, a great relationship.” The two finished their sundaes and sat in the living room cuddling and finishing off the bottle of wine. Lyra’s tolerance for alcohol was significantly higher than Bon Bon’s so while she barely felt a buzz, Bon Bon was giggling and falling over herself clearly drunk. “You know hic you’re soooo minty Lyra, I bet you taste like hic toothpaste. Minty fresh Lyra.” Bon Bon giggled drunkenly. “Alright Bonny, we’re finished the bottle and I think you’ve had enough to drink for tonight.” “Awww but I like to Lyra, it makes me love drink even more.” She giggled. “I think that’s backwards honey.” “No if it was backwards it would be Aryl, hey that’s a funny name too.” She fell onto the couch. “Alright missy, time for bed. You’ll feel better in the morning.” “Alright minty horse. Sure thing.” Bon Bon flopped onto Lyra as she carried her marefriend to bed. “Hey Lyra?” “Yeah Bonny?” “C’mere.” Lyra scooched closer to Bon Bon who quickly wrapped her hooves around Lyra and kissed her passionately on the muzzle. Lyra’s eyes widened for a second but then she melted into the kiss, it lasted several minutes before they came up for air but no sooner had they when Bon Bon dove back in for round 2, then round 3, then Lyra stopped counting. “Man, that was intense Bonny. I wish it weren’t just because you’re drunk.” Bon Bon sighed. “It isn’t. I know I’m drunk and I’ll probably forget this in the morning but I really do love you and I’m sorry it took a bit of liquid courage for me to show you how much I cared. I don’t ever want to lose you.” “You won’t, I promise. We’re together forever. I want the whole town to know that where one of us goes, the other isn’t far behind. “ Lyra gave her one last gentle kiss. “Goodnight Bonny, this is a real good thing we’ve got here.” Bon Bon blushed slightly and smiled. “Goodnight Lyra honey. Sweet dreams.”  The two mares fell asleep in each other’s hooves knowing that while this chapter came to a close, their story was far from over and they would hopefully be together forever.
