When Octavia woke up in the morning, she felt the sun caress her face, signalling that it was time to get up which she did with a loud yawn and stretching of her hooves, as if removing the sleepiness.

The breakfast had been a quiet manner because her best friend and partner, Vinyl Scratch was still sleeping from a late night event that she had been the main DJ of.

Octavia and Vinyl Scratch met each other a long time ago in Canterlot. The grey-coated earth pony and the white-coated unicorn had run into each other at a cafe called Pony Joe’s which had the best doughnuts.

When they both saw each others’ cutie marks, they began to talk, or rather, Octavia asked if Vinyl worked with music somehow. Then they hit it off, and despite the vastly different tastes in music, they still appreciated each other’s hard work that they had in the industry.

Octavia was within the classical music, playing with her cello that had seen many classical music events over the years since it was bought by her parents. She played at the Grand Galloping Gala multiple times at the request of Princess Celestia, which was a huge honour for Octavia.

Vinyl, on the other hoof, was focused on modern-day music as ‘dubstep’ as Vinyl had once said. She made soundwaves that became quickly popular with many ponies, especially the young generation. She was a key player in Pinkie Pie’s parties and Rainbow Dash was a large fan of the unicorns’ work.

Both of them being successful within their industry, it wasn’t difficult for Octavia to see why they became smitten with each other.

Sure, they may not play the same kind of music, but that didn’t mean they couldn’t appreciate each others’ work. Vinyl was very fascinated with Octavia’s music and enjoyed listening whenever she practices or plays. The same can be said for Octavia.

When the mare finished her breakfast, she went to the dishwasher and cleaned out her bowl and utensils before she went over to ‘her’ side of the living room that they had divided. One place for Octavia to practice and another for Vinyl. They played at different hours which they had a schedule for so they didn’t accidentally hurt each others’ sounds and effects they wanted to give with their music.

The grey-coated mare looked out the window and saw that the sun was moving slowly over the sky, caressing the earth and helping the plant life grow.

Maybe she should take a stroll around town? It had been a while since she visited the park.

Before she ponder on it further, she heard a yawn and a chair being pushed back. She turned and saw that it was none other than Vinyl who rubbed her eyes with her hooves, exhausted from work.

“Oh, morning Vinyl,” Octavia greeted with a warm smile. “Sleep well?”

Vinyl turned to the cellist and gave a small smile. “Yeah, just tired. I wanted to sleep more but I can’t be sleeping all day,” the unicorn grabbed a bowl and poured cereal and milk and began to eat slowly.

Not wanting to leave the other mare alone, Octavia sat on the opposite end of the table and grabbed one of the many magazines they had laying around. Most of them are dedicated to music. The cellist read through a few pages before looking out the window.

“It’s a beautiful day outside. I was thinking that I wanted to spend it outside, especially considering that this is one of the few times I have a day off. You want to join me in the park?” Octavia asked with a small smile.

It was difficult for the two of them to be in a relationship and have such a long and inconsistent schedule. That didn’t mean they didn’t go on dates now and again. They did, it was just difficult because nine times out of ten, they just wanted to relax and get some sleep.

Today was one of the very rare days that they had free time to do whatever.

While munching on her cereal, Vinyl swallowed and responded. “Yeah, that sounds nice, the sun is warm and it would be wasteful not basking in it even for a little while.”

The unicorn finished her breakfast and brushed her teeth while Octavia waited by the dining table where she continued to read until Vinyl came out of the bathroom. When the cellist looked at her friend, she noticed to her shock, that Vinyl didn’t wear the usual pink shades she normally wore.

Her eyes were beautiful. Octavia, being the closest friend and partner, had the luxury of seeing the unicorn's scarlet-red eyes.

“Vinyl… aren’t you going to wear your glasses? Not that I mind, of course,” Octavia added so she didn’t upset the DJ.

Vinyl shrugged. “Nah, today is a rare day for us. We haven’t been able to go on a date for a while, not even a small one. I’ll leave them at home.”

Octavia smiled and walked over to the mare and embraced her in a hug that the DJ returned happily. With that, they walked out the door and locked it before making their way to the park.

While making their way there, many ponies and dragon waved at them as they walked which they returned with smiles. The two musicians weren’t aware that they were holding each others hooves which everypony and dragon had taken notice of.

When they reached the park, they noticed the sun was in the middle of the clear blue sky, shining upon them like a bright lightbulb that protected them from the darkness beyond. Many fillies and colts played different games with each other while their parents watched or talked to the other parents.

Of course, other couples had gotten a similar idea like Octavia, and brought their special somepony to the park where they could relax and enjoy the sunlight.

Octavia and Vinyl lay down on a dry patch of grass and watched as the other ponies went about their day. They lay in an area that was slightly covered by bushes and thick trees, but they were still visible to the naked eye or if you looked over in their direction.

The cellist looked over to her friend and couldn’t help but admire her beauty. Her mane and tail were two shades of blue, one lighter, one darker and those eyes. She was always entranced by them, so beautiful and reminded her of a scarlet ruby she had seen in a magazine once.

“Like what you see?” Vinyl teased when she noticed Octavia looking at her.

“Hmm, yes I do,” Octavia said and nuzzled her cheek.

When they looked into each other’s eyes, they always believed time stopped. It was like everything around them was a fictional story written by someone but only the two of them knew the truth.

They had butterflies in their stomachs and they looked at one another, neither believing the beauty that they saw before them. Octavia was always admiring Vinyl, while Vinyl always admired Octavia.

Neither noticed how close their faces touched, not until their lips met.

“That never gets old.” Vinyl spoke with a red streak covering her face.

Octavia mirrored her lover’s reaction. “Yes, It is… a nice feeling.”

They smiled at each other and used their hooves to push each other closer while basking in the sunlight, watching the fillies and colts play a ball game.

Today had been a wonderful day.
