Shifting to a new school and settling down there always takes some time. Similarly, Asterisk, having recently shifted to a new school, faces some problems at first, but all problems are solved when her special talents are revealed.

Asterisk Magical Galaxy is the only new student in her section of her class, Class VII; Section B. The two other new students had been sent to Class VII; Section D. Previously, Asterisk was also in that section temporarily. But after facing a section-change, Asterisk was brought to a new and better section. This section-change was a great lesson for Asterisk. She learnt how to adjust with different kinds of situations.

Asterisk was finally happy and was made the Class Monitor, what she wanted to be!

All the chapters in this story are written by me. Hope you all will like reading them just as I liked writing them!

Chapter 1 - A Shocking Saturday

View Online

It was Saturday.

Asterisk had told her Parents on Friday, "Today, Ma'am told us that tomorrow is a working Saturday."

Her Parents were surprised.

Her Father asked her, "Are you sure? Do you really have school tomorrow?"

Asterisk replied confidently, "Yes, Dad. I stayed really attentive in class today."

Asterisk told her Mother, "Mom, we have a Class Test on Magic tomorrow."

So, Asterisk studied well and soon was prepared. Asterisk thought that she had to revise in class the parts she forgot whenever possible.

It was Asterisk's Father who took her to School. So he set off with her. Asterisk's School was quite far away, so they had to travel by bus. It was not the School Bus, but a public bus. The journey was fun and safe. Soon, Asterisk and her Father reached Asterisk's School. Asterisk took a look at the time and went inside the School.

Asterisk came to the Assembly Room, lit up with bright white lights. The bright sunlight and the bright lights of the room made the room very bright.

Asterisk joined the line of her class and then they were asked to sit down. So all of them sat down.

A filly from another section, somehow, seemed to be one of Asterisk's classmate's friends. She talked to Asterisk's classmate as if she was from the same section!

That filly asked Asterisk's classmate, looking at Asterisk, "Is this your classmate? Are you from the same section?"

Asterisk's classmate, Shine Star, the light blue alicorn with purple mane and eyes, said yes.

The Assembly began. After Assembly, all the students went to their respective classes.

History was the first period. After History, was G.K. (General Knowledge). During that period, the students were taken downstairs and they roamed around on the playground.

In the next period, everypony was asked to draw a scenery. Asterisk drew a nice one. But a shocking thing happened when Asterisk was searching her bag and found that she had not brought her drawing copy.

The shocking thing was that, a foal, Star Glory, a blue pegasus with green mane, who was sitting on the bench on Asterisk's left side said, "Bring your phone to school the next day. It is an important thing to do if you want to be known as a good student."

Asterisk was a bit confused at first. But Star Glory's green eyes looked really suspicious, although he was joking.

Asterisk said, "But we are not allowed to bring our phones to school! Why are you telling me to do so?"

Star replied, "It is very important if you want to be known as a good student."

Asterisk, the light pink alicorn with pink mane with a purple gradient and pink eyes, thought, "I don't want to be known as a good student. I want to be a true good student. Being a so-called good student doesn't mean that you are really a good student."

Then, Asterisk took out her Rough Copy and colours to draw a scenery. She took her pencil and made a drawing of a scenery - a house in the middle, the sun shining, clouds in the sky, trees on the two sides of the house and bushes behind the house. It was a nice scenery. But another shocking thing happened while Asterisk was drawing.

The shocking thing was that, Star Glory again said, "You have not brought the drawing copy? The walls are there. Draw on the walls of the classroom."

Now, this was getting a bit annoying. Asterisk knew that he was, of course, joking.

Asterisk replied without a second thought, "Babies draw on the walls of the classroom. I have the Rough Copy, so I will draw there. By the way, why are you talking to me as if you will cry soon? I hate all that nonsense!"

Star Glory stopped teasing Asterisk. He understood that Asterisk was not what he thought she was - A fool, doesn't understand anything, will believe whatever he will tell her and very immature. But why did he think all these? Because Asterisk, however, was the only new student in that section of her class. She had taken admission a few months ago, before the beginning of the session. She had not many friends to talk with and therefore, was quiet.

Meanwhile, Asterisk was thinking how she could make him understand what she really was.

Sir said that Asterisk's drawing was good and so were the drawings of many other students.

The next period was Chemistry. Before that period, there was a five-minute gap. Taking this opportunity, Asterisk, nervous for the Class Test on Magic, thoroughly revised the Chapter. After Chemistry Class, it was Break Time. Asterisk was almost prepared during Break Time. She revised the Chapter while eating. Her tiffin was two biscuits and one cupcake. She ate the biscuits, but could not eat the cupcake because of another shocking thing that happened while she was eating and revising the Chapter.

The shocking thing was that, Tender Light, the previous Class Monitor, came to Asterisk and said with a rude and proud smile, "Stand up. Stand up, Asterisk. I will ask you some questions from the Chapter to see how well you have studied and revised."

Asterisk was not pleased with Tender's rude behaviour. Still she stood up, hesitantly.

Tender said again, proudly and rudely, smiling, "Stand properly. Become normal."

Tender continued, imitating Asterisk's hesitant behaviour, "Don't do like this. First become normal."

Asterisk was not happy at that. She remembered that it was Tender Light who sat with her on the first day in the new section (Asterisk had faced a section-change).

Asterisk recalled her first day in the new section, "On the first day, Ma'am told me to sit with Tender and asked her to help me with the Routine and some other work. I, at first, thought that she was not bad. But Tender seemed to be a bit hesitant when I asked her to help me with the work."

Tender said, taking Asterisk's Magic Textbook with her hoof. "Now, I will ask you questions and you will answer."

Asterisk said, "Alright."

So the quiz started.

"What is magic?"

"Magic is the unique power of ponies to perform miracles. Alicorns and unicorns use magic to hold objects."

Tender Light was surprised. She thought that Asterisk would not know the answer. She also misunderstood Asterisk as a psycho and that's why Tender asked Asterisk to become normal (according to Asterisk).

Then Tender Light said, "Come, now." and pulled Asterisk by her hoof and took her outside the classroom door, near the windows outside the class.

"Now, how do you make a magic heart? Explain the process." Tender said.
"1) First we make a heart with our magic.
2) Then we draw stripes on the heart with our magic. Then the heart begins to shine, float and fly in the air.
3) Then we add sparkles to the heart with our magic.
4) Then we put a spell on the magic heart. Then the magic heart is ready." Asterisk answered.

"How much did you score in Magic in your Final Examinations in your previous school?"

"98."

"And all your exams, average?"

"I scored 97%."

"Wow!" Tender exclaimed, "And your Average Score?"

"96%."

"Wow! Are you one of the toppers? What was your rank?"

"I came first."

Tender Light, the light yellow pegasus with blue mane, was really surprised, her dark blue eyes were shining with excitement. She was acting a bit crazy according to Asterisk.

Tender pulled Asterisk by her hoof and took her back to their Class and raised Asterisk's hoof, shouting, "Look, everypony! She is the topper! She came first!"

Then, a few minutes later, Asterisk and Tender came near Tender's best friend and the new Class Monitor, Shine Light.

Many students said that Asterisk scored even higher than the first foal in the Class. Yes, she really had. Three cheers for Asterisk for her hard work!

"How much did he score?" Asterisk asked.

One of the students said, "He scored 95%."

Shine also asked Asterisk some questions and Asterisk answered them correctly.

Shine was surprised that a new student was answering questions so correctly. She envied Asterisk a bit, just as Tender envied Asterisk.

Shine had brought noodles from the school canteen and Tender ate a bit. But Tender was not eating in a very good manner. Asterisk also ate a bit, but in a proper way.

Tender asked Asterisk, "Is it good? Is the food from the canteen good?"

Asterisk replied, "Yes, it is good."

After sometime, some other students came there and Tender was trying to tell them a funny incident or was perhaps making fun of someone. But she couldn't tell them anything as she couldn't control her laughter. Tender had Asterisk's Textbook in her hoof. She covered her face with the Textbook, with great force and continued laughing. Asterisk and the others were watching this.

One of them said, "First stop laughing and then talk."

But Tender couldn't stop laughing and so, couldn't tell the incident.

"Now you will ask me." said Tender to Asterisk.

Asterisk asked Tender two questions, but Tender was not able to answer them.

Tender kept on saying, "I have not read this part."

Asterisk said, "I answered most of the questions which you asked me. But when I am asking you, you are saying that you have not read that part."

Tender was not happy with Asterisk, but she didn't say anything. Asterisk discussed the correct answers.

After a few minutes, some other students gathered there.

One of the students asked Tender, "How much did you get out of 15 in the Class Test on Cutie Mark Studies?"

Tender replied, "10."

One of the students asked Asterisk too.

Asterisk replied, "I got 14. In two places, ½ marks were cut for wrong spellings. Some of the spellings were really long."

Tender was surprised.

Tender asked Asterisk, "Who is your best friend?"

Asterisk said, "Prism."

Tender asked Shine, "And you?"

Shine just said, "You!"

Then, on the next period, Ma'am would take a Class Test on Magic. Asterisk was really nervous. She looked outside the windows and saw that it was raining. All of them could hear the sound of rain and thunder and soon were permitted to watch the rain from the windows, by going outside the classroom, while Asterisk sat on the bench, drowned in the Magic book, revising for the Class Test.

After sometime the power went off and Asterisk understood that no Class Test on Magic was going to be taken on that day. Asterisk felt strange. She decided to go out of the classroom to watch the rain along with her classmates. She went there and watch the rain. But another shocking thing happened, just when Asterisk was watching the rain! From behind, Tender Light pushed Asterisk. Asterisk knew that it was, of course, that Tender Light, who was teasing her by asking her questions. Asterisk looked back to be sure that it was Tender. She saw Tender running away from there and joining a group of foals. Tender was the only filly in that group. Asterisk understood what was going on. Still she didn't say anything to Tender.

Tender understood that making fun of Asterisk was of no use. So Tender stopped teasing and making fun of Asterisk from then on.

After going home, Asterisk told her Parents all that had happened.

Her Parents were a bit worried at first, but then understood that all these were being done with Asterisk because she was the only new student in the Class. Some of the students were underestimating Asterisk and thinking that she doesn't understand anything.

Asterisk's Parents told her that all these problems would go as soon as Asterisk proves herself to be a good student.

Asterisk was happy with the solution and decided to study well for the Examinations that were coming soon.

Chapter 2 - The Truth

View Online

Asterisk was sitting on the bench next to her 'friend', Prism Orchid as Prism, the pink pegasus with yellow mane and eyes would say that she missed Asterisk if she didn't get to sit with her.

On the bench left to Asterisk was sitting Prism's previous friend, Jasmine Glow, a purple pegasus with blue mane and eyes.

Needless to say, casual students like Prism Orchid always chose new friends frequently, even twice a week.

Jasmine Glow asked Asterisk, "Who is your ¢₹@$#"?

Asterisk couldn't understand.

"Can you please repeat what you just said?" Asterisk asked.

Jasmine said more clearly, "Who is your crush?"

Asterisk felt really weird. But as she didn't have a 'crush' on somepony, she didn't blush, not even a bit.

Prism said, "Asterisk knows about it!"

But Asterisk replied, "But wh-why do y-you ask? Class 7 is a very low class to have a crush... so, I-I don't have one yet."

Jasmine laughed cunningly and asked Prism the same question.

Prism didn't answer, but she asked Jasmine the same question.

Jasmine just laughed, from which Asterisk could make out that Jasmine had a crush on somepony. But Asterisk, not being sure about it, didn't say anything.

Asterisk felt that Prism was not really her friend. Prism was just acting to be so. She went to wash hooves before break time with Asterisk, said goodbye to Asterisk when Asterisk would go during Dispersal Time, smiled whenever she met Asterisk, but slowly, the truth was getting unleashed. The truth was that Prism was not really Asterisk's friend and all that she had done to show that she was Asterisk's friend was all acting.

Asterisk would tell her Parents about her 'friend' in her new school and her Parents, too, started liking Prism.

But, sadly, Prism wasn't really Asterisk's friend. Prism had only come to get some help from Asterisk and would go when her need was fulfilled. Prism was also helping Asterisk with some work, in order to get what she wanted. But Asterisk and her Parents mistook Prism as Asterisk's friend and hence, the time had come for them to fall in trouble.

Asterisk, on realising that Prism was not a true friend, told her Father, Glitter Bright, one day, while returning home after dispersal time, "Dad, Prism isn't a good filly to make friends with! I realised that all the good things she did was all acting! I had forgotten to tell you and Mom that when Jasmine asked me if I had a crush on somepony, Prism said that I know about it. Then only I realised that both Jasmine and Prism have a dangerous personality."

Glitter Bright, feeling quite relieved, replied, "Shiny, It's good that you realised it. Otherwise, you would have fallen in trouble. I and Mom had started suspecting Prism since the day you told us that she asked you to give directions to our house."

Asterisk also felt relieved. She decided to go to wash her hooves alone from then on, whenever possible. She thought that sometimes she wouldn't even have to wash her hands as she could eat with magic.

Asterisk was happy that her quick realisation helped her get out of trouble. She secretly wished to be the Class Monitor, as Monitorship would give her the opportunity to manage her Class and then only she could free her Class from all bad things. All Asterisk needed was to be smarter than she was, because she was very less smart.

Glitter Bright told Glowing Mist about Asterisk's realisation and both of them stopped liking Prism from then on and so did Asterisk. And once again, they became free from all the personal problems that they were facing.

Chapter 3 - What I Really Am

View Online

Asterisk was tired of all the misunderstandings and wanted to prove what she really was. How could she prove it? Now, she had an idea, maybe a very nice idea. Asterisk decided to sing a song, that she had recently written, given music and all that was done to the song was did all by Asterisk. So after Dispersal Time, at home, Asterisk studied, took a very short rest and took her phone and recorded her song "What I Really Am" and uploaded it to Social Media. The video showed Asterisk singing the song and the lyrics were written below the screen.

The lyrics of the song are as follows:

What I Really Am
What I really am,
Maybe it's what you think.
But I'll never reveal that!
Mysteriously, at you I'll wink.

Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh

Maybe it's quite hard to find out for you!
What I really am,
Do you want to know?
But keeping it a SECRET is what just I can! (what just I can, what just I can!)

Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh

Just believe what I say and,
"Look At My Eyes."
Glowing, shining and burning with a BLACK light.
And a red shine brightening up my eyes!

Yeah-Yeah-Yeah-Yeah-Yeah!

Yes, yes, yes, that's true,
You won't see me waiting for you!
Just looking up with my eyes
Can brighten up the dark night sky!

Yeah-Yeah-Yeah-Yeah-Yeah!

I admit that it's really true
That I am not like YOU! (Maybe you guys are so really mysterious!)
I might be so different from you all.
After all, it's quite hard to find out what I really am!

Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh

Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh

Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh!

After watching the video many fillies and foals from Asterisk's Class understood what Asterisk really was. Though this song was just a joke, it was a lesson for many ponies. Still Asterisk knew that she needed to work harder to score well in her Examinations to prove herself to her Teachers as well as the whole Class. It's true that the whole Class wouldn't like her, but some of them would like Asterisk and the others who misunderstood Asterisk would stop misunderstanding Asterisk and they would become inactive. So this was the best and most effective solution to the problem.

Chapter 4 - Everypony Apologizes

View Online

Asterisk asked some of her classmates if they had seen her video.

Some of them had seen while some had not.

Still Asterisk decided to wait.

The next day was Wednesday. Asterisk went to school and all bad things changed to good on that day. She happily entered her class after Assembly along with other fillies and foals of her class.

After entering her class, Asterisk was happy to see that a few of the ponies who had teased her or made fun of her had come to her to apologize.

Star Glory, the foal who had asked Asterisk to bring a phone to school and to draw on the walls of the classroom, felt ashamed of his behaviour when he watched the video.

Star said to Asterisk, "I-I am sorry, Asterisk, for all that I had told you."

Asterisk replied, "It's okay. I understood that you said all that jokingly. But don't say that ever again."

Asterisk was happy that Star Glory had realised his mistake and had apologized to her on time.

Then during Break Time, came Tender Light, the filly who had teased Asterisk, when Asterisk and Prism were going to wash hooves together.

But at first, Tender just laughed and smiled proudly and rudely and just said, "Asterisk! Now I see that Prism is really your best friend!"

But soon she felt ashamed of her behaviour and apologized.

This made Asterisk more relieved.

Now, the time had come for Jasmine and Prism to apologize. But they didn't seem like they would. They both were a lot like Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon, the two earth pony fillies who always made fun and bullied the Cutie Mark Crusaders and other fillies and foals for not having Cutie Marks. But there was one difference - that they didn't laugh at Asterisk for not having a crush as they had theirs. They didn't apologize, or even regret their behaviour, but Asterisk didn't mind. She just kept on working hard.

For the next few days, Asterisk proved herself capable of managing the class.

About a few weeks after the Examinations, Ma'am announced, "So, I'm sorry, Shine Light and Starlight Glow, you're not good enough in managing the class. As I said previously, new Class Monitors can be elected even every month, the new Class Monitors are Asterisk Magical Galaxy and Sunflower Magic! I hope they can manage the class well!"

"Yay!" Everypony cheered.

But that moment was not very good for Shine and Starlight as they lost their Monitorship. They just stared at Asterisk, wondering how could a new student like her deserve Monitorship. Shine envied Asterisk even more.

This time, Asterisk and Sunflower minded the class whenever there were no Teachers in the class.

Asterisk said to the class when the class was making noise, "Don't talk that much. Now, who wants to listen to a story? Sunflower will tell you one!"

So half of the class stopped making noise. The other half was still making noise.

Asterisk said, "Please do stop. Talk softly if you really need to talk. If half of the class still keeps on making noise, then how will the others be able to listen to Sunflower's story?"

The class stopped at this. Soon the story started.

What would happen before, when the Class Monitors were Shine and Starlight was that, the class would scream and shout and the Monitors would shout at the class at the top of their voices, "Don't talk! Please! I am telling you not to talk and you are still continuing to talk loudly! Why are you shouting like this?!"

The class, finding it funny, would start laughing loudly, annoying the Class Monitors.

The Teachers would come to the class and ask the Monitors what work were they doing, when they couldn't keep the class quiet.

Starlight would complain that they were telling the class to be quiet, but the class wasn't listening to them.

But half of the fault was of the class and half of the fault was of the Class Monitors.

But to Asterisk and Sunflower, Monitorship was like a gift. They considered it as a responsibility given to them by the Teacher. So they did their best to keep the class quiet.

Soon Class VII-B became a quiet and peaceful class under the Monitorship of Asterisk and Sunflower.

The Class Monitors were happy with the class and so was the class with them.

Teachers told Asterisk and Sunflower that it was their hardwork and wisdom that helped them to transform a noisy and shouting class into a quiet and peaceful one.

Both Asterisk and Sunflower were happy to receive the gift of Monitorship.

Chapter 5 - Asterisk Is Happy

View Online

On Thursday, during Dispersal Time, Prism said to Asterisk, "Well done, Asterisk! I had never ever thought that you would be made the Class Monitor some day!"

Asterisk told her, "Really, Prism, it's an unexpected thing. I will tell my Parents about it. They will be happy and surprised!"

Prism, in an attempt to make Asterisk blush, said, "Aren't your Parents proud of you? You're a gifted heir of theirs whom they should be really proud of!"

But Asterisk, didn't blush, not even a bit and said smartly, "I can't say that."

Soon, Asterisk saw her Father, Glitter Bright standing amongst the crowd outside the School gates.

Prism waved her hoof and said to Asterisk, "Bye, Asterisk."

Asterisk, despite being aware of Prism's dangerous personality, waved her hoof back at Prism and said to her, "Bye, Prism."

Asterisk smiled as she left. She walked outside the School gates, that were opened. She walked to her Father. They made their way to the Bus Stand and got onto a less-crowded bus.

Sitting inside the bus, Asterisk looked through the windows of the bus and saw her surroundings change slowly. After about half an hour, Asterisk and her Father was near their home.

Asterisk told her Father as she jumped out of the bus after it stopped, "Dad, today, I've got some important good news to tell you and Mom."

"Shiny, don't jump out of the bus like that. It is dangerous." warned Glitter Bright, Asterisk's Father.

"OK, Dad." said Asterisk obediently.

"What is that good news, Shiny?" Glitter Bright asked.

Asterisk said, "No, Dad, I won't tell it to you now. It's a surprise good news. I will tell you and Mom about the good news when we go inside the house."

Soon, Asterisk and her Father went inside their house.

Asterisk quickly went upstairs and took off her uniform and took a bath.

When Asterisk's Parents were in a good and happy mood, Asterisk came to tell the important good news.

Asterisk said to her Parents, "Now, Mom and Dad, do you want to know the important good news?"

Glitter Bright said to Glowing Mist, "You know, Shiny's Mom, Shiny was telling me that she has got some kind of important good news to tell us."

So Asterisk started, "I have been made the Class Monitor...."

Glitter Bright and Glowing Mist was extremely surprised. They had never thought of Asterisk being made the Class Monitor.

Glitter Bright and Glowing Mist said together, "Wh-what do you say? Y-you h-have been made the Class Monitor? Really?!"

Asterisk said, "Yes, Mom and Dad, I have been made the Class Monitor!"

Glitter Bright asked worriedly, "Were you able to manage your noisy class properly?"

Asterisk said, "Yes Dad! I applied your idea - Telling them a story. Sunflower, the Co-Class Monitor told the story."

Glowing Mist asked, "How did you manage to keep the class quiet?"

Asterisk said all that she had said and had done to keep the class quiet.

Asterisk's Parents were astonished. They were speechless for a second.

Then Asterisk's Parents said, "It's a great news, Shiny. We always thought that you would never be given Monitorship as we were aware of the system of electing the fillies and foals who can shout at the top of their voices as the Class Monitors."

Asterisk recalled an incident that had taken place a few weeks ago.

One day, Asterisk said, "The Class Monitors shout at the top of their voices when the class becomes extremely noisy."

Asterisk's Father said to her, "Yes, Shiny, those who are able to shout at the top of their voices are elected as the Class Monitors. So, you will never ever be given Monitorship."

Asterisk thought, "I can get the gift of Monitorship only if I can prove myself capable of managing the class. Besides, it's a responsibility."

Asterisk trembled with happiness and thought of how the unexpected thing finally came into reality. She felt thankful for the wonderful gift of Monitorship she had just received.
