> We're Done > by TheKing2001 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Chapter I > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I gulped as we looked out at the massive crowd. We were supposed to be doing a comedy act tonight to help Pinkie win some prize or something. I never did well with massive crowds like this. Sure, I helped Trixie and all but this was different than that. Trixie only got about fifty or so ponies. There was easily more than a thousand out there. “Wow that’s busier than I expected,” Rainbow admitted as she peered above my head. “How about you go first Starlight?” I let out a nervous laugh at that. “You’re funny,” I leveled a flat stare at her. “You’re always so confident. Why don’t you go first?” Now it was Rainbows turn to laugh. “I would but I’m uh sick. Sick of standing here,” Rainbow chuckled. “Rarity. You go! You like all the attention of ponies anyway.” Rarity gave her a glare. “What does that mean darling?” Rarity asked indignantly. Rainbow scoffed and rolled her eyes. “It means you’re a drama queen and an attention seeker.” “And ya ain’t one?” Applejack asked in her normal drawl with a smirk. “Yur the biggest attention seeker I know.” “Fine. I would suggest Fluttershy go but we all know she is too scared,” Dash sighed. She turned around and Fluttershy was clinging onto her mane, shaking in fear. She always scared of everything except animals. She understood them more than ponies. Must be nice to be able to talk to animals. I would be able to easily tell the spider in my room to leave and never come back. I hated spiders with a burning passion. “It would take some pony a lot of guts to take them on,” my coltfriend Spike peeked under me out into the crowd. We had been dating for some time and it was probably the happiest I’ve ever been. A lot of ponies at first thought it was weird we were dating and I thought it was kinda weird when he admitted he liked me at first mainly due to my age. Then I founs out he was my age because of how fast dragons aged. I’m only twenty six and i feel old. Ponies in town don’t even cast a glance at us now thankfully. Rarity and Rainbow Dash made eye contact and nodded. “Not some pony. Some creature,” Rarity grinned along with Rainbow. I instantly caught on and we all walked to him. He can go and win Pinkie whatever it was she wanted. He gulped and I levitated him up with my magic and placed him on the stage. “Quick! Get him something to entertain them with!” Rainbow said. I quickly levitated some bowling pins into his claws. “So uhm how do you all feel about juggling?” Spike asked with a shaky voice as his entire frame was shaking. I tilted my head to the side in slight concern. I’ve never seen him act this way before. “You guys think we might have made a mistake?” I hesitantly asked. “He doesn’t look okay.” Rainbow was rolling around laughing on the floor. “He’s fine! He does public speaking all the time. Doesn’t he look funny!” Rainbow burst out laughing again. Applejack, Rarity and Pinkie joined in laughing and I just watched as he dropped a pin and everypony in the audience laughed. I had a weird feeling something bad would happen tonight. ------------------------------------------------------------- “That was funny Spike!” Rainbow giggled as we started walking through town to the castle. Apparently the others wanted to hang out and such inside since Twilight was off on a quick three day trip to Canterlot. “You looked absolutely ridiculous!” The rainbow maned pegasus giggled to herself. Spike said nothing and just kept walking. That wasn’t like him either. He typically talked all the time. Plus, most of the time we went out places he opted to ride on my back but tonight he chose to walk. Once you’ve been with a pony or dragon in my case, you pick up on the little things. “Spike?” I asked as I leaned in to nuzzle him. To my shock, he leaned away from it and kept walking forward. Now that was even weirder and just confirmed something actually was wrong. Spike never turned down affection from me, no matter the situation. Me and Applejack looked at each other, both of us wearing the same concerned and confused expression on our faces. Apparently she picked up on what I was feeling too. She was good like that. Scarily good in all honesty. “Sugarcube?” Applejack touched him with a hoof and he slapped it away to all of our shock, especially Rarity. “Whatever is the matter darling?” Rarity asked. Spike spun around and glared at us. I took a shocked hesitant step back at the angry and hurt expression on his face. He honestly looked like he was about to cry which made me even more concerned. “You all should know!” Spike fumed. “I was humiliated out there for your entertainment! They were all laughing at me. Hell, you all were laughing at me. You guys did that intentionally for your amusement!” I stepped forward nervously. “Spike we never meant to hurt you. We just weren’t thinking,” I tried to plead with him. Looks like my feelings of something bad going to happen and that he was acting off out there were right. “Bullshit. You knew exactly what you were doing when you levitated me out there!” My Spike never swore, no matter how angry he was. I didn’t know how serious he was until he said that. “We really didn’t sugarcube,” Applejack tried to convince him and he glared at her with such an intensity she faltered and stayed quiet, taking a step back and bumping into Dash who had been watching quietly with a confused look on her face. “We’re not friends anymore,” Spike announced as he glared at them. They all let out a gasp and stared at him. “B-but why?” Fluttershy whimpered as Applejack hugged her. “You know why. I just told you. Don’t interact with me again,” Spike grumbled as he climbed the castle stairs and opened the door. “Oh and Starlight?” “Yes love?” I asked nervously. “We’re done.” He slammed the door shut and I heard it lock. I felt my ears flatten against my head as my heart broke into a million pieces. I could feel the tears threatening to escape as I played those words over in my head. I had never wanted to hear him say those words but here we are. I hurt him somehow way more than I realized. “W-what just happened?” Pinkie asked as her mane flattened and she lost a bit of her bright pink color. “Ah don’t know sugarcube. Ah don’t know.” > Chapter II > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- “I can’t believe he broke up with me,” I sighed as I slumped against the wall. Fluttershy gave me a sympathic look. We were sitting in Fluttershys house by the fire. I had a small cat on my lap that I idly petted. Thank God Angel wasn’t around. That monster was a criminal I bet you. Would start a war to end all of Equestria if he had the opportunity. “You guys were all pretty awful and insensitive to him,” she agreed as I glared at her. “Excuse me? YOU we on our side as well!” I snapped. “All of us shoved him out there without a fucking care in the world about how he felt. All we cared was about us. All I cared about was my own selfishness and not my partner.” I curled myself into a ball and felt Fluttershy wrap a wing around me. The cat jumped off my leg and went chasing after a toy or something. “I’ve been spending too much time with my human version. She’s way more bold than me. I apologize for what I said. Spike just needs time. He will come around. You can stay with me,” she rested her head on mine. I nodded as I hugged her. “I’m so disappointed in myself. I never should done this. I can’t stop resisting the urge to cry or cast a spell to go back in time to convince us to not to,” I admitted quietly. “What would Twilight say if you did that?” Fluttershy pointed out. I paused and let out a sigh. “You got me there. She would be disappointed in me,” I admitted. “I just don’t know how to fix this.” “I don’t either. He’s been ignoring even Rarity and he used to like her. He kicked Rainbow out of the castle and yelled at Applejack. He’s only allowed the cmc, Lyra, Bon Bon and his friends from Canterlot in. If I remember correctly, he let the flower sisters and Blossomforth in.” “I didn’t know he was close with any of those ponies,” I said. He never mentioned them to me ever. I never really saw him with them except Lyra and the cmc. “He and Lyra go way back. She is Twilights original friend from Canterlot,” Fluttershy explained.” That made sense a bit now that I think about it. I think Twilight had mentioned something about it once during one of my lessons about friendship. I clearly didn’t learn much if I just got dumped. “You know Spike was my first relationship?” I suddenly said. “I never had much time for dating back then. I always cared about getting more ponies in my village.” “I haven’t dated either. Not because I don’t have time for it or anything but everytime I meet someone I like, I get too shy and nervous to do anything. Me and Rainbow Dash had a teeny thing back in flight school but that was years ago. We are just good friends now.” “Wow she never told me that,” I mumbled. Fluttershy gave a little giggle and played with a bird, watching it do loops in the air. Rainbow and the others were trying to come up with ways to get Spike come out. Or at least let us inside to apologize. Knowing Dash she would give a super shitty apology. She sometimes gave a good one but meh it was kinda rare. “We keep it a secret. Even if the public would support us, we like having a private life with us being national heroes we don’t have much of a private life anymore. Rarity and Rainbow like the spotlight but even Rainbow has her limits believe it or not,” the yellow pegasus explained. “That does make a bit of sense,” I admitted. I never really thought about it but it does make sense that they would get a lot of attention in public. It was somewhat tame in Ponyville but it still happened here and again I bet. That would explain why Rainbow was hiding in the castle a few days ago. “It’s okay I guess. I just stay indoors now.” “Isn’t that what you always do?” I pointed out. Fluttershy gave a giggle and nodded. “Indoors is my safe space. It’s nice and quiet in here,” she explained. I looked around with a raised eyebrow at the animals running around and making all sorts of noises. “Uh Fluttershy have you looked around your house? It’s a zoo in here or at least it sounds like one.” Fluttershy gave a shrug as a fox rubbed against her cheek. “I guess I got used to the noises. It’s comforting really,” she admitted. I guess that made some sense. I stared at a tiny white mouse staring at me and I jumped a little bit. Mice used to scare the hell out of me. Messy creatures too. They are nothing compared to rats though. Now those are some scary freaking things. “Uh why is he staring at me?” I asked curiously as the mouse took a step to me. She made some squeaks and I stared in confusion. “Uh what did she say? I don’t speak mouse, Fluttershy.” “She. Her name is Georgina. She’s saying she wants to introduce you to her children,” Fluttershy translated with a warm smile. “Oh uh sure.” Fluttershy nodded and made some noises. I assume it was the sound mice make. Not entirely sure. The mouse made some squeaks back and five small mice came walking up. As much as they scared me, I couldn’t help but let out an aww. “They’re adorable!” “That’s Teeny, Tiny, Nut, Will and Bob,” Fluttershy pointed a hoof to each one. “She’s a very proud mom.” I tentatively reached out a hoof and the one I think was Teeny touched my hoof with a paw. “I like this one. The black spot is absolutely cute. I should get a pet. Spike wanted to get a dog,” I announced as my smile faded. “Are you okay?” Fluttershy asked as the mouse crawled up my foreleg. “I’m going to sleep. Can I take Teeny?” I asked hopefully. Fluttershy gave a smile and made some squeaks. “Yeah the mom is coming too she said.” > Chapter III > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Spike “So Spike,” Roseluck drew out the sentence as she and her sisters stared at me. I had gotten considerably close to the the three mares after I accidentally destroyed their flower stand during my whole rampaging dragon birthday incident and we started hanging out ever since I fixed the stand. “You doing okay?” “Ever since Starlight and your friends screwed you over by forcing you in front of a crowd, making you afraid and uncomfortable,” Daisy added as Lily shot her a glare. “Daisy!” “It’s fine,” I sighed and swung my legs as Lily settled onto the couch next to me. They had a surprisingly nice house, looked smaller on the outside. “I do appreciate that she is the one who is quite blunt. Reminds me Sunset a little bit. She alternates.” “That’s good,” Lily said and shot me a smile. “So you staying in the castle or something?” “Nah. I wouldn’t kick Twilight out of her house even if she could live with Rainbow or AJ. That’d be rude of me.” The three mares looked at each other before Roseluck coughed. “Well where are you staying then?” Roseluck asked and shifted on her chair. I gave a shrug and yawned. “Haven’t thought about it. Maybe Bon Bon and Lyra, maybe Blossomforth. Or uh you girls if it isn’t too much?” I asked and gave a sheepish smile as the three mares faces lit up. “We’d love for you to stay for a few days. We could certainly use the company!” Lily announced as she flung a hoof around me in a one hoofed hug. “If you want, you can help out around the garden or stand. We can pay you for your work, right girls?” “Absolutely,” Daisy agreed and nodded her enthusiastically. “That’s fine with me,” Roseluck admitted as she slid off her chair. “I’ll make you a bed in the spare room. This is gonna sound weird but we usually sleep together. We all three get really cold no matter how many blankets we got covering us.” “I was just gonna sleep on the couch,” I admitted sheepishly as Roseluck stood on the stairs and tossed me a look back over her shoulder. “You don’t gotta do all this.” “Nonsense! You’re our guest, no exceptions!” Roseluck said cheerfully in a manner that sounded more like Lyra than her. I sighed and stretched out more on the couch. No point in trying to win a fight I’ve already lost. “So I just cut here?” I asked as I nervously held some scissors in my claws. The three mares had been up for a few hours in the garden before Daisy had woken me up to see if I wanted to help out. “Mhm!” Lily said as she tossed some flowers on the wagon they had parked nearby. “Just like that. Toss them on the wagon after you’re done.” I nodded and complied, quickly adding them to the evergrowing pile. I raised an eyebrow as Daisy levitated some flower seeds. “How can you do that? You’re an earth pony,” I pointed out and she blushed, moving her mane aside to reveal a small nub on her head. “Mom was a unicorn. I’m the only one of my sisters who had this defect. It’s not a full horn, just some stupid disability if you wish to call it such. Always got made fun of for it so it isn’t advertised around town. And all my classmates who knew about it moved away so it’s a secret between us four now,” Daisy explained as she let her mane fall back into it’s usual style. “That’s stupid,” I muttered under my breath as Roseluck raised an eyebrow. “Ponies making fun of her I mean, not the whole unicorn mom thing. My adopted mom is a unicorn.” “The princess?” Roseluck asked curiously and I shook my head. “Twilight Velvet, her mom. And her dad Nightlight. Nice ponies. A bit strange but nice. Shining Armor is incredibly strange but he’s pretty cool,” I admitted with a smile. “And then when Twilight was old enough, they gave me to her. Can’t really have a kid taking care of a baby, after all.” “True,” Lily snickered as she approached the wagon. “Alright, I’ll be back. Just gonna take the wagon around back.” I gave a nod and turned around to watch Daisy. I faintly listened to Lily pulling the wagon and the flapping off wings. “Spike?” Rainbow asked and I turned around. The pegasus stood above the fence, hovering as she stared at me with wide eyes. “Oh Spike! Starlight is worried sick!” She flew at me and tackled me as we went rolling and I slammed into the wall of the flower trios house. “Get off me,” I grumbled as I pushed Rainbow. “I’m not in the mindset to see you or her right now.” “But I-” “He said get off,” Daisy snapped as she and Roseluck stood behind us with angry expressions. “And you’re trespassing on our property so leave before I call the Guards to take you away.” “She’s right,” Roseluck chimed in coldly. “National hero or not, the laws still apply to you. Now get out of our garden.” “Not without Spike,” Rainbow said adamantly as I slid out from under her. “We all want to talk to him so he’s coming with me.” “Like Tartarus he is,” Lily chimed in as she came around from the house. “He’s our guest and if he doesn’t feel comfortable going with you, then he ain’t going nowhere with you.” I gave her an appreciative look as Daisy bit down on Rainbows tail and dragged her towards the gate as Roseluck pushed it open. “Get out!” Lily shouted as she pushed Rainbow from the front. Daisy dropped the tail out of her mouth and Rainbow quit fighting as the three stood out of the yard. “You can’t do that to me either! It’s assault!” Rainbow snapped and flared her wings. Daisy and Lily hastily retreated back to the garden as a crowd formed. “They technically can,” I said as Rainbow focused on me. “They told you to leave multiple times.” “But Spike-” “But nothing,” I interrupted her. “I want to be alone.” I sighed and watched Rainbow fly off, shooting a glare at Lily and Daisy. “Thanks for that,” I hugged the two mares as Roseluck hugged me from behind. “No problem Spike,” Daisy said casually. “What are friends for?” “Now come on,” Lily added and pushed me towards the side door. “Break time.” I gave a slow nod as the three shoved me through the open door. Might as well take a break from any more unwanted visitors.
