> What Happened to Flash Sentry? > by FandomSam > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Spirit of Vengeance Part 01 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The bell rings, signaling the end of day and everyone readies to leave before the teacher dismissed them. Cranky turns to each student as they pass by his desk. “Remember everyone, there’s a test this Thursday. You better prepare yourselves,” he then looks down at the last student. “Ms. Shimmer. Would you like some assistance?” Sunset rolls her eyes. “Thanks, but no thanks, Mr. Cranky,” the flame haired girl rolls herself out of the class. “I need get used to doing this stuff on my own.” As the yellow teen rolls her wheelchair down the halls. She can feel the stares on her and the chattering of her fellow students all about the former Unicorn. The girl has been back in school for almost two weeks, and no one will stop looking at her as if she’s a sympathetic puppy. Yes, Sunset Shimmer is in a wheelchair. About a month ago, she and Flash Sentry were in a car accident. They both survived. But at the cost of the Rainboom never being able to walk again. Since then, everyone’s been acting like they’re walking on eggshells around her. Sunset eventually made it down the ramp and is heading towards the school’s statue where her fellow Rainbooms are gathered. As she rolls up to them, the girl can tell that they were laughing at something. “What’s so funny?” Sunset asks when she’s finally close enough. The entire group quieted down, noticing the flame-haired girl. “Seriously, guys,” she sighs. “Look, I know that things are different now but I rather it not change how you guys treat me!” this treatment had been irritating her since day one after the incident. Even more so when her friends do the same. “I get enough of that from everyone else. I don’t want you guys treating me like a china doll.” The girls look at one another before turning back to their wheelchair bound friend. “Ah’m sorry, Sunset,” Applejack removes her hat before gesturing to the rest of the group. “We all are. None of us are shor how ta act round ya anymore.” “It’s alright, girls. I understand,” Sunset gives them a sad smile. “This is still new territory for me as well. But I rather you girls still treat me as me.” Fluttershy speaks up. “You mean, as our friend?” Rarity nods, “The girl with great creative and artistic talent.” Rainbow Dash jumps in. “Someone who really knows how to rock!” Twilight Sparkle fiddles with her glasses. “Not to mention the person who also so happens to be a magical talking unicorn from an alternat dimension.” “Yes!” the former Equestrian lets out a laugh. “To all of that. Now, Pinkie,” she turns to the cotton candy haired girl who had seemingly been vibrating in place. “You’ve been extra quiet around me. I just know that you want to throw me a—” “Welcome Back Party!” Pinkie shouts as she tosses confetti in the air. Sunset pulls some of the confetti out of her hair. “I figured,” she chuckled. It’s been a while since the yellow teen saw her pink friend so excited. Just as the party planner starts rambling about what kind of cupcakes she should bake, Sunset spots a familiar blue haired boy. She hadn’t seen him since that day. He had been avoiding her for some time. “Flash!?” Sunset quickly rolls her chair over to her fellow guitarist. The boy briefly stops to look at the approaching girl. He turns back around and considers taking off. But the sound of his name getting called for the second time stops him. “Flash!” the girl is finally next to him. “It’s, uh, been awhile.” “Yeah,” Flash couldn’t help but smile at her. “It has,” his eyes then wanders down at Sunset’s immobile legs. This did not go unnoticed. “Don’t blame yourself, Flash.” “Huh?” he looks back up at her. “How’d you know what I was thinking?” Sunset shakes her head. “I might be a telepath, but I don’t need to read your mind to see what’s going through that head of yours. It was an accident,” she reaches for his hand to reassure him only to have it quickly taken away. Looking back up, she finds the hesitation in his eyes. “I’m not going to invade your privacy.” “I…” he looks away. “I know. I just, I have a lot on my mind.” “I’m here to listen,” she smiles up at him. “I don’t plan on walking out on you. Or anyone, really.” Flash stares at her and sees the small smile growing larger. Soon, both teens burst out laughing. “I’ve missed you, Sunset,” Flash admits. “As much as you miss your car?” Sunset jokes. “Even more.” They stared at one another for a moment before Sunset lifting her arms up. Flash shakes his head and accepts the girl’s hug. Without meaning to, Sunsets eye glow as a memory flash before her eyes. .oOo. Sunset was in the passenger seat of Flash’s car. The two are on their way back from the first date they’ve had in a long time. The two were laughing at some joke. Flash faces Sunset to smile at her and the girl does the same. Sunset then turns back to the front and her eyes widen. “Flash!” The boy faces froward and swerves, attempting to dodge the oncoming car only to end up off road. Then, everything went dark. “Sunset!” Flash is heard shouting. Sunset then could have sworn she saw a burning skull and with a low raspy voice it says, “You’re the Rider now, Kid.” .oOo. The images stopped in time as Flash breaks away and Sunset shakes the images she just saw out of her head. “See you around?” the boy asks. “I hope so,” Sunset smiles at him as he walks away. She then turns her chair around as her name is called. “Sunset,” Principal Celestia is approaching the teen carrying her purse and keys in hand. “Thought you’d be in the car by now?” the woman walks up behind the wheelchair and starts pushing it towards the parking lot. “Come! Let’s go home.” “Actually, Principal Celestia,” Sunset calls out. “It’s not that I don’t appreciate you taking me in or anything after the accident,” she looks back down at her legs. “But I was hoping to spend the evening with my friends.” “Well…” The Principal of CHS looks back over to where the Rainbooms usually gather. They are her friends. But whenever they’re all together, they have a tendency to get into trouble. “I don’t know.” Trouble is the last thing she wants for the girl. “Please, Principal Celestia! It’s been so long,” the girl begs. “I want just one day where I could be a normal kid again.” “Sunset,” the woman walks around to kneel in front of the girl. “You’ll never not be normal,” and runs a hand through the teen’s hair. “Despite secretly being a Unicorn from a parallel world. You can go with your friends.” “Thanks, Principal Celestia,” she hugs the woman. “No need to thank me,” the Principal pulls away from the yellow girl. “And Sunset. It’s after school hours. I’m not your principal. I’m your legal guardian. That come with me supposed to be worried about you.” The woman then pushes her charge over to where the rest of the Rainbooms remain. “Hey, girls!” Sunset calls out to her friends. “Want to hang out at Sugarcube Corner?” The girls look at one another before turning back to the yellow teen and Twilight says, “Sure, Sunset. It’s been a while since we’ve all been hung out.” They all smiled brightly at Sunset. Celestia then says, “Just try and stay out of trouble.” Rarity whips her hair, “Perish the thought!” “Oh, my,” Fluttershy. “Wouldn’t dream of it.” Twilight nods her head, “We’ll do our best.” Applejack tips her hat. “Darn toot’n!” “No promises!” Rainbow adds and all her friends turn towards her. “What?” Celestia stares at them for a moment before turning back to her charge. “Just be home by six, Sunset.” “Come on, Celestia. Let me hang with them until…” the fiery haired girl starts looking for a number in her head. “Until ten.” “Seven,” the Principal offers. “Nine,” the teen rebuttals. “Eight! And not a minute more,” the pale woman glares. She soon cracks a smile along with Sunset. “See you this evening, Sunset,” with that, the educator leaves the group. Sunset then turns back around to her friends. “You ready to head out?” “Aren’t we ever?” Rainbow answers. Twilight gets behind the wheelchair bound girl and starts pushing her down the streets with the rest of the Rainbooms. As they pass an alley, a pale man in a long black coat steps out of the shadows. “Perhaps those humans could be useful,” his face darkens as his eyes turn black and fangs grow. “I’m coming for you, Rider.” To be continued… > Spirit of Vengeance Part 02 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- As night has fallen as the Rainbooms leave their favorite hangout spot with Fluttershy taking her turn to push Sunset. “Man,” Sunset sighs, “I needed this.” “I bet,” Rainbow walks ahead with her hands behind her head. “Must be hard to not stretch your legs. Ow!” the prism haired girl gets smacked upside the head by Applejack. “Couldn’t ya ‘ave worded that any better?” the cowgirl scolds. “Oh!” the sports girl looks down at her wheelchair bound friend as it dawns on her. “Yeah. Sorry, Sunset.” “Don’t worry, Rainbow,” the yellow teen waves off the comment. “Besides, I know what you meant. Ever since Celestia brought me home with her, she had been hovering over me from day one. It’s not that I don’t appreciate everything she’s doing for me, but I need to breath.” “Kinda sounds like my mom whenever I get sick,” Twilight notes. “Huh,” that got Sunset thinking. “I guess it does,” she then shakes her head. “Anyway! Perhaps I can convince her to let me do shows with you girls again. I kinda miss being a Rainboom.” The group looks at one another before turning to her. “Are you sure you would be up for that, darling?” Rarity asks. “I lost my legs, Rarity, not my arms,” the fiery haired girl does an air guitar. “I can still play. Just no fancy dance moves.” “Ah’m shor we can work somth’n out,” Applejack tells her. “Maybe we can get Principal Celestia or Vice-Principal Luna ta let us put on a show next assembly?” The Rainboom’s plans for their comeback show was halted by the sound of cars crashing. They quickly round the corner and are met by the sight of a ten-foot red scaled creature on its hind legs that end in cloven hooves. Upon its snake-like head rests a pair of antlers. “Come on!” It shouts while swinging a long chain at a streetlight, ripping it out of the ground. “Blackheart said this be easy!” “Okay, everyone,” Sunset grabs her geode. “Lets… Hey!” she feels her chair getting pulled away by Fluttershy. “What are you doing!?” “Getting you outta here!” the blonde answers before turning to her prism haired friend. “Rainbow! Take Sunset home.” “One it!” the lead guitarist salutes and in a rainbow streak, both her and Sunset are gone. “Now then,” the southern girl and the rest of the Rainbooms grab their geodes. “Time to—” Rainbow and Sunset suddenly return. “What in tarnation? Ah told ya to get her outta here!” “I was,” Rainbow rubs the back of her head. “We actually got to her front porch when Sunset made a very compelling case.” The cowgirl crosses her arms. “That being?” Sunset starts explaining. “We may have individual powers but when we’re apart, they’re weaker. Besides, the Magic of Friendship only works when we’re all together.” Twilight turns to Applejack. “She does have a point.” “Fine!” AJ growls. “But you better stay out of sight, Sunset.” The former unicorn shrugs. “I’m okay with that. Not like my powers are for fighting anyway.” Once again, everyone grabs their geodes. Applejack glances around. “Anybody else want have something to say?” No answer. “Good! Now we can power pony up.” The Rainbooms’ outfits changed, and they gain pony ears as their hair extends down their backs. “Let’s round up this varmint!” Applejack announces as the Equestria Girls, minus Sunset rushes towards the monster. The Rainbooms were outdone by the monster. He was far stronger than Applejack where it could burst through Rarity’s barriers, Pinkie Pie’s exploding sprinkles only seems to annoy it, Twilight tried lifting the thing but it’s too heavy, and where Rainbow is faster than the beast she was concerned with keeping Fluttershy away whose powers are useless against it. The monster starts laughing, “I can see why I was told not to worry about you. The seven of you… wait!?” It starts counting them. “One’s missing. Where’s the yellow one?” Hearing that, Fluttershy hides her face behind her hair. “Not you! The other one!” Twilight tilts her head. “What do you want with Sunset?” “Nothing. She’s just the bait.” Unbeknownst to him, Sunset had been sneaking up behind the monster. With all her strength, the yellow teen jumps out of her chair and grabs the beast by the arm. “Let’s find out what you really are,” and her eyes start glowing. .oOo. An armed guard throws a chained-up prisoner into the back of a transport truck. “Never transported a man with a hundred life sentences before,” the guard commented as he closes the door. The prisoner was alone for a moment until he looks up and sees a pale man in a black long coat. “What they got on you?” “Nothing,” the man answers. “I’ve already gotten out of one prison and have no intention of going into another one.” “Case you haven’t noticed, that’s exactly where this ride is going.” “Perhaps,” the stranger then leans forward. “That doesn’t mean you’ll still be on it. What if I were to give you the strength were no bars can hold you. Even those chains that bind you will become your power. You’ll be a demon.” The Prisoner squints at him. “What’s in it for you?” “There’s an artifact that I’m after is being guarded by someone In exchange for your freedom, I want you to bring it to me.” “And how might I find this artifact?” “I can give you all the details after you agree,” the man extends his arm. “Do we have a deal?” The Prisoner shrugs and accepts the offer. Not like he has a lot to lose. .oOo. Sunset is then thrown across the street. “There you are?” the demon smiles. “Maybe he’ll come now that you’re in trouble,” he swings the chain towards her. The former Equestrian closes her eye, readying for the impact. Only, it never came. Opening her eyes, Sunset finds a skeletal creature with a flame surrounding its head. It was standing in front of her with its arm out, catching the chain around its wrist. “Stay away from her!” It roars as it grabs ahold of the chain and fire ignites the metal, leading all the way to the Demon, forcing it to let go. The Skeleton pulls the chain towards itself. “Hey!” the monster lifts a car. “That’s mine!” and throws it towards them. The Skeleton was quick to grab Sunset and dashes out of the way of the oncoming vehicle. Curious about her savior, Sunset activates her powers. .oOo. Flash Sentry is sitting near his crashed car, leaning over a lifeless Sunset Shimmer. The boy was so distraught, he did not notice the presence of another. “What are you willing to trade?” a raspy voice asks. Looking up, the teen is startled to find a burning skeleton in an old duster and a Stetson on the back of a skeleton horse that to was on fire. “What?” “What are you willing to trade for her life?” the skeleton asks again. Flash looks back down at Sunset. “Anything. I’d even take her place if I could.” The skeleton seemingly glares at him as if pondering the answer. It then hops off the horse and approaches them. It then removes a glove to allow a burning skeletal hand to reveal itself and places it on the girl’s head. Sunset then takes a gasp of air before passing out. “Sunset,” Flash cries out in relief. The skeleton then speaks up, “Keep your end of the bargain.” The boy looks over at it to find the skeleton standing in front of him while holding out a rolled-up piece of paper. Understanding what the skeleton meant, Flash gets up and accepts the paper. He immediately regrets it with the feeling of getting burned from the inside out. “Keep the Contract from falling into the wrong hands,” the Skeleton tells the boy as his flames start to die out. “This is your sworn duty. You’re the Rider now, Kid.” With that, the Skeleton turns to dust as does the horse. Flash falls to the ground as he face seemingly burns away to reveal his skull as flames surrounds it. .oOo. The vision ends just as the Skeleton runs to the Rainbooms and hands Sunset over to Applejack. “Keep her safe.” Rainbow Salutes. “Aye, aye, creepy dude!” The Skeleton steps away but is stopped when Sunset calls out. “Be careful, Flash!” That catches the girls off guard and the Skeleton briefly looks back at the yellow girl before facing the demon. “About time you show yourself, Ghost Rider,” the Demon steps towards him. “My boss wants the Contract.” The Ghost Rider reaches into his coat to take out the rolled-up paper. “Come and get it,” he then places it back. The Rider then extends out the chain as it once again catches flames. Just as the Demon charges at him, the Rider starts swinging the chain. End > Ultra Rise! > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- At the local gym, Flash Sentry is busy practicing some techniques on a dummy. He was so into it that he didn’t notice anyone was behind him until a hand was placed on his shoulder. Without thinking, the boy spins around to throw a punch. Only, he soon found himself lying on the floor. “Wha…” he starts questioning before the face of a familiar red and yellow haired girl comes into his vision. “Sunset?” “You must have been really into it,” Sunset tells him. The yellow teen is wearing shorts, a sports top, sneakers, and has a gym bag slung over her shoulders. “I called you three times and you never answered,” she assists her fellow guitarist up. “What are you doing here?” the blue-haired boy asks once he’s back on his feet. “Same as you I suppose,” the girl shrugs. “Was that judo I saw? And taekwondo?” “Yeah, and some karate,” Flash confirms. “I had no idea you know martial arts.” “It was a recent development,” the former Equestrian reaches for the geode she has hanging on her bag. “My powers are very useful, but they’re not really made for combat. Started teaching myself just in case I actually need to fight.” “Your self-taught? Me too!” “Yeah, but I’d say I have more success than you,” she gives him a smug grin. “Come on, I’m not that bad.” “Really? Cause your footing needs work and I didn’t see much balance going on.” “Hey! I’ll have you know that I’ve been able to hold my own in a fight. And, and the size of these guys are unbelievable.” “Prove it.” Sunset starts walking over to the ring. Flash smirks as he follows her into the ring. As soon as the Trainer who offered to ref signaled the start of the fight, the Flash lands on his back with an “Oof!” And again, “Oof!” He eventually lost track. “Oof!” he starts rubbing his head. “Okay, okay. I get what you mean.” He gets up. “You just need a little practice and I’ll gladly train you,” Sunset boasts while helping him up for the umpteenth time. “I could use all the help I can get,” he sighs as he goes over to where he left his bag. Sunset raises a brow. “You plan on getting into a lot of fights.” “I don’t think I have a choice,” Flash unzips the back to take something out, but quickly pockets it. “I’ve kinda been going through some things.” The girl was about to ask when an alert went off on her phone. She takes the device out. “Seems like that giant made another appearance.” Flash’s eyes widen at that. “Uh, really?” “Yeah! Some hikers caught sight of him this morning. Look,” she shows him her phone and a video plays of a gold and silver giant with blue accents on its head, chest, arms, and legs. Right in the center of its chest is a white glowing gem. The Giant is seemingly sparing with nothing until he trips. Sunset lets out a chuckle. “This guy has the same problem as you.” Sweat drips down from the boy’s forehead. “You don’t say,” he laughs awkwardly. “Now,” the girl puts her phone away. “What were you saying before.” “Sunset,” Flash fiddles with something in his pocket. “I’m the…” Whatever the guitarist was about to say got cut off by the building shaking. “What… was that?” the former Unicorn asks as she and everyone leaves the building and is sees. “Is that a dinosaur?” There is indeed a massive dinosaur rampaging through the city. People started running away from the destruction. Sunset takes her phone back out, planning on calling her fellow Rainbooms. “I’ll need to call the girls. Flash you should…” when she turns, the girl finds that her boyfriend is not running away but towards the dinosaur. Sunset goes after him. “Flash!” The call of her voice stops the boy, and he turns to her. “You better get out of here sunset,” he takes a strange wand-like device out of his pocket. “Rise!” he shouts while twisting the top before lifting it into the air and flipping a switch. “Ultraman Flash!” Flash is then engulfed in a bright light. Once the light died, Sunset looks up to find the giant standing over her. “Flash!?” The giant turns to her and nods. He then faces the dinosaur and immediately charges towards it. Sunset decides to take this chance to find safety. The yellow teen eventually finds herself on the roof of a building with several other people that is a good enough distance away from the fight but still able to see the spectacle before them. Ultraman man throws a glowing punch into the Dinosaur’s abdomen before delivering a shining kick at its head. But the Dinosaur easily dodges that, causing the giant to lose his balance and fall. Sunset bangs her fists on the ledge of the building. “Stop making that mistake!” she watches as the Giant manages to grab the Dinosaur as it had charged at him. The white gem then starts blinking red. The girl then eyes the police officer next to her with a megaphone. She snatches the megaphone and uses it. “Hey!” she shouts. “Plant your feet and use its weight against it!” Ultraman briefly turns to the direction of the voice just as the officer retrieves his megaphone. The Giant does as he was told and lifts the Dinosaur over his head and tosses it a good distance away. Just as the Dinosaur gets back up, the Giant crosses his arms and a powerful beam is fired out of them and once it hits the monster, it bursts into an explosion. The people on the rooftop start cheering as they watch as the Giant raises its hands in the air and flies off. .oOo. “Ow!” Flash lets out as he was flicked in the air. He turns to find a glaring Sunset. “What was that for?” The yellow girl glances around to make sure that the school hallway is empty. “For not telling me that you’re a hundred-foot superhero.” “And how do you think that would go?” Sunset deadpans. “Says the giant to the unicorn.” Flash opens his mouth to say something, only to close it while thinking. “Fair enough,” he shrugs before walking down the hall with Sunset following. “I have band practice with the girls after school. So, we’ll have to meet up after that.” The boy turns to her. “Meet up for what?” “Training,” she answers. “You’ll need a lot of it if you’re going to continue fighting giant monsters,” the girl walks a head before facing him. “Hey! If you can pin me, then maybe we can go out tomorrow for pizza.” Flash smiles at the retreating girl. Now with a specific goal in mind. End > Brightest Day > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Hey, Flash!” Sunset runs up to the blue haired boy as school let out. “What happened? We made plans for Spring break, but you just vanished,” she glares. “And not once did you return my calls.” Sweat starts dripping down Flash’s head. “Sorry, Sunset,” the boy closes his locker. “I was kinda shipped off to a bootcamp unwillingly and they don’t really have cell service up there.” The former unicorn glares before sighing and crossing her arms. “I guess I can understand that. I just wished you’d call or something to let me know before you left.” “And I would have. But I didn’t know about the bootcamp until I got there myself,” they started walking down the hall. “That’s harsh. You’d think someone would have told you?” Flash unconsciously glanced at his right hand, “Not sure I would’ve believed it if someone did,” Or more specifically, what’s wrapped around his middle finger. The two made it out of the building. The flame haired girl noticed Flash’s gaze and looked at his hand herself. “That’s an interesting ring.” Around Flash’s middle finger is an unusual green ring with an image resembling a lantern on it. the article of jewelry seemingly had a glow to it. “Get it from bootcamp?” “Uh, yeah!” the boy moves his hand to where the ring wouldn’t easily be visible. “It’s just a badge you get for joining them.” “Really?” Sunset raises a brow. “If it’s just a badge, then why is it beeping?” The ring is indeed letting out a beeping sound as the ring starts blinking. “Uh, you know? So many things got to have useless gimmicks these days,” Flash starts walking backwards. “Hey! remember those pens that light up? What was the point of that? Any! Gotta go! Bye!” he then runs off to hide himself behind the CHS statue. Sunset considered just letting her guitarist be, but curiosity got the best of her, and she sneaks up to the statue. The Rainboom remained just around the corner. Out of sight, but close enough to hear. A gruff voice can be heard. “Green Lantern, Kilowog, calling Green Lantern Flash Sentry.” “Green Lantern, Flash Sentry, here,” the blue teen answers. “What’s going on, Kilowog?” “Me and some scouts were tracking a few Manhunters. We got most of them, but we lost sight of one. We’re still searching. However, I feel the need to inform you that it was near your sector.” “Thanks, Kilowog. I’ll, I’ll keep an eye out.” The gruff voice then sighs, “I know that sound. I hear it with all the new recruits. Especially the young ones. The Drill Sergeant gloves are off. What’s the matter, kid?” “I just don’t know how to explain the whole Green Lantern thing to anyone. My friends. My family. This stuff isn’t easy, and I don’t know about telling anyone about it. But I also don’t want to lie. Especially to Sunset.” The voice laughs. “That the pretty girl you keep talking about?” “No! I mean yes. Oh,” Flash stumbles over his words and Sunset had to cover her mouth to stifle her own laughter. “Not gonna lie, Kid. This job is hard. You thought I was tough on ya, you ain’t seen nothing yet. But that Ring chose you for a reason. And a Ring rarely chooses wrong. That doesn’t mean you have to choose it, though.” “Huh?” “You’re not the first poozer to doubt being a Lantern, Flash. But I’ve seen you in action. You’re one of the best cadets I’ve ever trained. You have the Will of a Green Lantern. And the heart.” “Thanks, Kilowog.” “Now, before I sign off. What’s the most important rule about being a Lantern.” “Keep your Ring charged,” Flash sighs. “I know, I know.” “Then why do my readings show that your Ring is almost out of juice?” “I, I was about to charge it before you called.” “Uh-huh,” the voice didn’t sound convinced. “Well, better get going, Flash. To the Core!” “To the Core,” the boy repeats. Sunset took this as her chance to peek around the corner. The flame haired girl sees Flash taking something out of his bag. It resembled a lantern. Flash holds the lantern out in front of him and points his ring in front of it before speaking. “In Brightest Day, In Blackest Night, No Evil Shall Escape My Sight! Let Those Who Worship Evil’s Might! Beware My Power! Green Lantern’s Light!” Energy pours out of the lantern and into the Ring. Soon, there’s a flash of light and the guitarists’ outfit changed. The boy now stands there wearing a green and black suit with the same symbol on the chest as the ring. His blue hair has a tint of green to it and his eyes are green when Sunset knows for a fact that they should be blue. Flash looks at his Ring and smirks as he lets energy leave it. Before Sunset knew it, the boy was holding a guitar and shreds a few notes. “Man, I never get tired of that,” he dismisses the guitar and then glances at his Ring. “I wonder…” and a domino mask soon appears on his face. “That’s better,” he says to himself as his feet leave the ground. Sunset watches in awe as she watches him take flight and disappear into a streak of green light. “Exactly what kind of bootcamp did he go to?” the yellow girl asks herself not expecting an answer.” “I don’t know,” Pinkie says, startling her fellow Rainboom. “But I would like one of those rings.” “Ah! Pinkie!? Where’d you come from?” “Huh? I thought for sure you’d be too old for this talk,” the party girl started thinking before clearing her throat. “You see, Sunset. When a mommy and daddy love each other very much—” yellow hands then covers Pinkie’s mouth. “Not that!” Sunset halts the talk. “I mean, how much of that did you see?” “Oh! You should have made that clear, Silly,” the pink teen giggles. “I started eavesdropping on your boyfriend shortly before the light show. Just image the parties I could throw with one of those.” “Flash isn’t my boyfriend,” Sunset deadpans. Pinkie wraps an arm around Sunset while giving a knowing smirk. “Suurrre, he isn’t.” That comment for some reason caused the yellow girl’s checks to tint red. Just then, a loud thump landed near them. Standing not far from Pinkie and Sunset is a red robot with a silver face holding a staff in one hand. “Green Lantern energy signature detected,” the robot approaches them. “Humans! You will tell me the location of the Green Lantern of Sector two, eight, one, four.” “Sprinkle Bomb!” Pinkie shouts as she throws a hand full of sprinkles into the machine’s face that bursts into colors. It had no effect on it. “Human of the Planet Earth. You are to be captured and detained for the assault of a Manhunter.” “Run!” Sunset grabs Pinkie by the wrist and drags her along. The robot though, took off using its thrusters on its feet and lands in front of the two girls. Stopping them in their tracks. “No one escapes the Manhunters,” the robot raises its staff that extends as one end sparks with electricity. It goes to bring the staff down onto the two humans. Only, it gets blocked by a green barrier. A familiar voice shouts. “Hey! Looking for me?” Flash descends between the two girls and the Manhunter. “Don’t worry, ladies. You’re safe now.” Pinkie shouts. “Thanks, Flash Lantern!” causing Sunset to cover her ears. “Actually, it’s Green Lan—Wait!” he turns to them. “You know!?” Sunset shrugs. “Behind the school’s statue is not exactly the best place for a private conversation. Nor a lightshow. And did you really think we wouldn’t tell just because you covered your cheek bones?” Hearing that, the Lantern slumps as he lets his mask fade. “Well, it worked in the comics.” That causes the yellow girl to smirk. “Real life is not the same.” “Am I interrupting something?” the Manhunter asks. “Oh, right!” Flash constructs a sword as he addresses the girls. “You two better get out of here. Manhunters are not to be taken light—” whatever the boy was about to say is cut off as the Manhunter’s staff is slammed into him, forcing the Lantern into the side of a nearby building. “Ow!” The Manhunter approaches Flash with its staff raised. “No one escapes the—” “Sprinkle Bomb!” Another blast hits the robot, still not phasing it. The machine turns to face the two girls. “That did nothing the first time. What made you think it would work any differently?” Sunset examines her nails while boasting, “I’d say it worked perfectly.” Pinkie giggled. “It’s called a distraction!” And before the Manhunter knew it, a drill was pierced through its back and out of its chest. The machine then collapsed to the ground. The drill disappears into Flash’s Ring before he starts speaking into it. “This is Green Lantern, Flash Sentry. The Manhunter Robot has been dismantled.” “Really?” the gruff voice is heard from the Ring. “Not bad for a poozer.” “Yeah, well,” the boy looks over at the two girls. “I had help.” They smile at him. “I look forward to hearing more in your report.” “Will do, Kilowog. To the Core!” “To the Core!” Sunset walks up to him. “Bootcamp, huh?” Flash rubs the back of his head. “Technically, that wasn’t a lie. I just didn’t tell you where the bootcamp was. And my phone plan does not carry over to the other end of the universe.” “Well, you can explain more, later,” the yellow teen crosses her arms while wearing a smirk. “I will,” Flash smiles. “I promise. We can go to the park after school like we used to. I’ll do it there.” “Aww,” Pinkie coos. “I was wondering when you two would start dating again.” The comment caused both Sunset and Flash to blush. But neither denying it. End > Morphenomenal > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- School let out an hour ago and Applejack finds herself sitting at Sugarcube Corner solo. Her fellow Rainbooms are stuck at work and while she has the day off. On top of that, this is one of the few rare times that the cowgirl’s grandmother lets her and her siblings off the hook from chores. Speaking of. The southern girl turns her gaze across the sweetshop to where her brother is sitting along with his new friend group. Big Mac had always been a loner aside from family events. So, it’s nice to see the oldest Apple sibling getting along with others. Applejack just never thought he’d get along with them. “Hey, AJ!” Sunset calls out as she sits across from her. “Sunset! What are you doin’ here?” Applejack turns to the yellow teen. “I thought you was workin’?” “I was, but the main stove went out and my manager had to close up until it’s repaired,” the former unicorn then faces the same direction the cowgirl was staring off into. “Jealous that Big Mac has friends outside of you and Applebloom?” “Nah! Ah’m actually happy he started hangin’ out with others. Just curious as ta why them?” Sunset has to admit that the cowgirl has a point. Flash is one thing. The blue haired boy can get along with anyone. But the others? Micro Chips isn’t too bad, just a little nerdy. Lightning Dust is often too competitive to get along with anybody. And Trixie? Well, Trixie is Trixie. The flame haired girl starts thinking. “I’m more curious about their new styles. Rarity has mentioned that they seemed color coordinated.” It’s true. Flash is now wearing a red shirt under his jacket, Big Mac has replaced his red button up with a black one, Micro Chips has a blue sweater, Lightning Dust is still in her usual track suit only yellow, and Trixie’s hoodie is now pink. A color Sunset thought she heard the magician swore she’d never wear. Then a series of beeps is heard from their table and curiously, the group looks down at their wrists before making their way out of the shop. Applejack turns back to her fellow Rainboom. “Then there’s them vanishing for no apparent reason,” the cowgirl crosses her arms. “Strangely, it usually coincides with…” The phones of everyone present in the shop went off. Sunset checks her phone. “It’s another Monster Alert. Twice in one week? Must be a special.” Mr. Cake then announces. “Alright everyone! Let’s make our way to the nearest shelter,” he says while he and Mrs. Cake starts shutting everything down. Mrs. Cake then adds. “Consider your bills paid for.” The two Rainbooms just like everyone else make their way out of the sweetshop. Sunset went to turn around the corner but noticed her friend heading the other direction. “Applejack?” she goes to run up to the cowgirl. “Please tell me you’re not thinking about taking on a Monster. Our last attempt did not turn out so well and we were all together. Just leave it to the Power Rangers.” “It’s not that,” AJ continues down the street. “Ah saw Big Mac and the others head this way.” The two eventually reached an opened area and find a bunch of grey monsters surrounding a group of five people in colorful outfits with their faces hidden by helmets with dinosaur themes. A red t-rex, black mammoth, blue triceratops, yellow smilodon, and a pink pterodactyl. Yellow dodges one of the grey creatures. “Too slow,” then uses two daggers to slash it. “Sorry, Putty, but there’s only one person faster than me,” she then spots something. “Hey, Red Ranger! On your six!” Red does a quick spin and stabs another Putty. “Thanks, Yellow. Need any help Blue!” The Blue Ranger does a quick backflip behind a trio of Putties. “No worries. I’m a bit more agile than before becoming a ranger,” he spins his double end spear. “As long as I keep the rhythm and pay attention to the air currents, statistically I won’t…” he hands slipped and the weapon goes flying through the air. “…do that.” he then starts dodging some punches and kicks as he is delivering his own. He then gets shoved to the ground. Just as Blue was getting surrounded by several Putties, they all got slashed through in a single swipe. Looking up, he finds Black walking up to him carrying a large axe, then holds out a hand towards the fallen Ranger. “You sure have gotten good with that axe,” Blue notes as he accepts the offer of help. “Guess it’s easy for you having grown up on a farm.” The Black Ranger lets out a chuckle before going, “Eyup!” at that moment, a pink light zips between the two and at the last putty. Pink is standing not far with her bow out. “The Grrreat and Powerful Pink Ranger is too great to miss a shot,” she boasts as the others gather around her. Red then scolds. “That was still too close, Pink!” “Hey! Pink got the mud brain. Didn’t she?” “But you still need to work as a team. In order to do that we have to trust each other.” Pink Ranger went to say something, only to stop as a certain cowgirl fell in front of them and lost her hat as she hit the ground. Black Ranger quickly picked up the Stetson and went to the blonde’s side. “You alright, Applejack?” and holds the hat towards her. Applejack was momentarily stunned before placing the hat back on her head. “How’d the Black Power Ranger know m’ah name?’ The Black Ranger just lets out a few mumbles as he tries to think of what to say. A voice then growls. “Enough!” Revealing themselves is grey monster with a feline face and claws, a set of wings, wearing an Egyptian style headdress. One hand is holding a long staff with a hook as the other arm is preoccupied holding onto a certain someone. Red Ranger shouts. “Sunset!” That shocked both Sunset and Applejack. “Let her go!” he points his sword at the Monster The Monster chuckles. “I don’t think so, Ranger,” it then threateningly points the tip of his staff at the girl’s head. “Unmorph if you don’t want a single hair on her pretty head to get hurt.” The Power Rangers look at one another as they considered their options. “What do we do about the tiger?” Red asks and Blue speaks up. “Technically speaking, it’s a lion as he is obviously based on the Egyptian sphinx. Rita must have done her—Ow!” “Not the time, geek!” Yellow scolds him after smacking him on the side of the head. Sunset took a moment and grabbed the Monster’s hand as her eyes glowed. .oOo. A woman wearing a strange brown dress holding a staff with a red jewel in the center of a crescent shaped moon. In a screeching voice, the woman says. “King Sphinx! Go to Earth and destroy the Power Rangers!” she points out from a balcony and the planet can be seen in the distance. Back on Earth, Flash, Big Mac, Lightning Dust, Trixie, and Micro Chips show up as the Putties arrive. “Ready?” Flash asks as he reaches behind him. The others answer, “Ready!” as they do the same. The blue haired boy then yells. “It’s Morphin Time!” they all hold out a hand device in front of them with medals that each has an image of a prehistoric creature. “TYRANNOSAURUS!” “MASTODON!” “TRICERATOPS!” “SABER-TOOTHED TIGER!” “PTERODACTYL!” They were suddenly transformed into the Power Rangers. .oOo. Sunset blinks as everything makes since now. “Flash!” the former Equestrian shouts, catching all the Rangers and Applejack off-guard. “I trust you! Now, I need you to trust me!” she slowly moves her hand close to King Sphinx’s staff. The Red Ranger notices this. Applejack starts realizing and points at the Red Ranger. “If that’s Flash then that means…” she turns to the Black Ranger. “Big Mac?” Black lets out an awkward chuckle. “Eyup!” “Okay everyone!” Red speaks up and gathers all the Rangers around. “Let’s bring it together!” and they all put their weapons out in front of them in the middle as energy surges through them. The Black Ranger turns his axe around, revealing as a large blaster. “Power Axe!” and throughs it into the air. Pink was quick to toss her bow towards it. “Power Bow!” it combined with the blaster’s barrel. Blue splits his spear in two. “Power Lance!” they become additional barrels. Yellow spins her daggers in the air before adding it. “Power Daggers!” and two more barrels exist. Red then holds up his Sword. “Power Sword!” he jumps and places his weapon over the blaster as he grabs it. He then lands among the other Rangers. He points it at King Sphinx before glancing at the Pink Ranger. “Here!” he hands the blaster over to her. “What!?” all the Rangers, including Pink shouts. “You’re too great to miss, right?” Pink excitedly accepts the weapon. “Darn right I am!” she points it at the Monster. Then, Red places his hand on her shoulder. “Wait for the signal,” he tells her. “You’ll know it when you see it.” King Sphinx growls. “You’re testing me, Rangers!” suddenly, Sunset grabs the cane and swings it under the Monster, hitting an unfavorable spot, causing him to let go of his captive. The flame haired girl then scrambles away from it. Pink Ranger then shouts. “Power Cannon!” and the large blaster releases five powerful beams at King Sphinx and the Monster explodes. Sunset runs up to the Red Ranger and they embrace one another. Red’s helmet fades away revealing a familiar blue haired boy. “I was so worried, Sunset.” “I wasn’t,” the former unicorn breaks away. “The Power Rangers always win.” Applejack turns to the Black Ranger as his helmet disappears to reveal the eldest Apple sibling. “You really are a Power Ranger, Big Mac,” she says as the others reveal themselves. “Ya’ll are.” Lightning Dust as the Yellow, Micro Chips is Blue, and the Pink Ranger is none other than Trixie. “Eyup!” Big Mac smirks. “Yeah,” Flash starts rubbing the back of his head. “Look. I hate to ask this, but we need you guys to keep this quiet.” “Ya want us ta lie!?” the cowgirl narrows her eyes. “Applejack,” Big Mac places a hand on his little sister’s shoulder. “I know this ain’t easy for you but being a Power Ranger is a lot of responsibility. And a dangerous one. Not telling people is the most important rule about being a Ranger. Imagine if Applebloom knew. She would want to see her big brother the Black Power Ranger in action. She might get hurt,” that causes Applejack to think about the possible situation. “We ain’t askin’ ya to lie. But you cannot tell anyone about this. You understand?” After a few moments, Applejack nods. “Eyup!” As the was happening, Sunset, Flash, and the other three Rangers stood there slack jawed. Micro Chips says. “That is perhaps the most I’ve ever heard him speak.” “I know, right!” Lighting dust agrees and counts with her fingers. “I honestly thought, Big Mac only knew three words. Eyup and eynope.” Trixie fans herself. “I had no idea that his voice was so great and powerful.” Sunset and the other Rangers, minus Big Mac, turned to the performer. The Pink Ranger’s face tints a bit as she crosses her arms and turns away. “Not that Trixie cares about that or anything.” End > Dig Giant Robots > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sunset is being driven by Flash in his new car. “Okay,” Sunset looks around the inside of the vehicle. “On the outside, it looks impressive. But the inside? What’s with all these buttons?” All across the dashboard are numerous buttons, switches, levers, and nobs. There was even an old game controller installed near the steering wheel. Flash smirks while watching the yellow girl twist one of the nobs to see what they’d do. “None of them are programmed to work like this,” he informs while enjoying the sight of his passenger trying out several buttons. The blue haired boy then panics as the girl reaches for a specific switch. “Except that!” he swats her wrist away. “Ow!” “Sorry,” the boy sweats. “That was the passenger side ejector seat,” he faces forward. “You probably would have been fine if we had reinstalled the parachute. But we forgot after the last test.” The flame haired girl rubs her hand. “Why would you need an ejector seat?” “Uh, we thought with what we were working on, it might be useful in case of an emergency.” “Emergency?” Sunset tilts her head. “What are you talking about?” With that, her fellow guitarist smirks once again. “It’s all part of the surprise.” After a few more minutes, they pulled into a junkyard and stopped once they got to the center. Flash puts the car in park before both teens got out. Not far from them someone in a jumpsuit can be seen working on another car. “Hey!” Flash shouts and the jumpsuit raises their head to reveal Vinyl Scratch was under the hood. “Is that the backup? Got it working yet?” The DJ waves her hand to say kinda. “Man,” Flash walks over and leans over to get a better look under the hood. “That’s too bad. It could be useful.” Sunset walks up to them. “So, Vinyl has been helping you with building cars?” The DJ smirks as she lowers her sunglasses to get a better look at the former unicorn and then glances at Flash. Flash returns the smirk as he takes out his car keys. “It’s more than just a car. I know that Twilight would love to see this more than anyone. But I really wanted to show you first,” and points them at the vehicle the two had just departed from and pushes the button. After a single beep that made the headlights flash, the ground beneath the car opens up to allow a large figure to rise up above them. Standing above the teens is a massive blue and silver robot with flames decorating the arms. Flash’s car rests on top in place of where the head should be. “Woah!” was all that the flame haired girl could say. .oOo. “Let me get this straight,” Sunset starts. The three teens are now in the car resting on top of the robot. The former Equestrian on the passenger side, Flash in the driver’s seat, and Vinyl is resting in the back. “Vinyl was looking for parts to build a new DJ stand in this junkyard when the owner asked if she had a twenty before swiping it and placing the deed in her hands. Then, when she heard that you needed some parts for your car, she suggested looking here. That’s when you found a giant robot of unknown origin under a pile of scraps and your first thought was to replace the head with a Cuma?” Flash shrugs. “Pretty much. But to be honest, we couldn’t figure out the controls in the head it came with. Vinyl was the one who suggested the replacement. That way, I would have a neat ride and a giant Robot.” “Heh,” the yellow girl chuckles. “A two for one?” she then looks over the controls. “So, what exactly does this baby do?” “We’re not entirely sure,” the boy admits. “We have some basic ideas and we skimmed over the manual a little bit. We plan on doing a full test run this weekend.” The conversation then gets halted by the sound of thunder, causing Vinyl to sit up. Looking out the window, the trio sees a vortex that lets three silver robots drop out near them. “Attention citizens!” a female’s voice leaves the middle robot. “You are piloting Megas. A battle mech from the future. It is the property of the Earth Coalition. Return it at once.” “A Battle mech?” Flash tilts his head and Sunset adds. “The future?” The boy then starts looking at the dashboard. “Okay. Which one was the speaker again?” he flips a switch. The robot’s shoulders opened up and released several mini rockets hitting the robots on both sides of the middle one. The remaining robot shouts. “Hey! My mercenary droids! I needed those!” Sunset and Vinyl turn to glare at the driver who only gave an awkward chuckle. The DJ then reaches over to the front, flips a different switch before turning a nob. Flash clears his throat. “Sorry! Still learning what everything does.” “You’re done learning!” the robot shouts as it uses jet thrusters to charge at them. The boy hurriedly starts pressing buttons as he turns the wheel. It allowed him to dodge the oncoming robot. The two passengers hardly had enough time to buckle up. “Time to run the tests early. Show us what you got, Megas!” he flips a switch that actually does what he wanted, and Megas flies up into the sky. Both mechs trade blows, fist to fist, kick by kick, rockets and lasers. Eventually the robots land back in the junkyard. The Silver one soon reveals a long blade. “So, want to go old school?” Flash smirks as he pulls a lever. Megas raises a hand to the sky and a large sword pops out of the wrist and the hand catches it. The machine spins the word around and swings it. “I… Have… The…” the boy starts yelling before the sword gets knocked out of the hand, landing a good distance away. The three teens look back at the blade before Sunset turns to Flash. “Smooth, He-Man.” The Silver robot took its chance and kicked Megas down and was about to jab its blade right underneath where the car was resting. Luckily, Flash was quick to have his mech catch it. As the blade was closing in, Sunset recalled what Flash said. “Manual! Where’s the manual!?” Vinyl points at the glove box and the fiery haired girl quickly opens it to take out a large book. she quickly searches through the pages for anything useful. Sunset briefly stops at a single page then slams her hand on a button as big as her fist. The front of Megas opens up and somehow the front end of a battle ship pops out with a single large barrel. A powerful beam is unleashed, seemingly disintegrating all but the Silver Robot’s head that drops to the ground. All three teens stared disbelief at what just happened. Vinyl then takes out a pen and a stack of sticky notes. She jots something down and places a piece of paper on the large button that Sunset pressed. “Big Scary Cannon,” Flash reads before turning to the DJ. “Good idea. Could you also help with the rest?” Vinyl gives him a thumbs up. The boy then sets the robot to stand up. “Now, which one was the speaker, and where are the shoulder rockets?” he asks moments before the door on his side opens and he gets dragged out of the car. “Hey!” Holding Flash against the car is what he can tell is a girl wearing a white and blue outfit. Over her head is a helmet with a visor hiding her entire face. Her grip was harsh at first but then eased up while tilting her head. “Pops?” the future girl seemingly asks, puzzling Flash. She then gets a punch to the head, knocking her away. “You mess with Flash, you mess with me,” Sunset warns. Future girl looks up at the former unicorn and speaks “Nana?” catching Sunset off-guard. Flash gets up. “Who are you?” The future girl reaches into a pocket to take out a photo and hands it over to Flash. The picture contained the image of him and Sunset from their first date. The photo is obviously worn and somewhat faded with a tear in it. Flash reaches into his car and pulls down the visor to reveal the same photo. He takes it out to compare both. Other than one obviously being older, the pictures are identical all the way to the fact that they’re signed on the back. Sunset grabs the older copy to get a better look at it. “Where did you get this?” “I got it from my mom,” Future girl admits. “Who got it from you.” The blue-haired boy finally asks. “Who are you, exactly?" Future girl paused for a moment before answering. “I’m Blazing Dawn. Or just Dawn for short,” she removes her helmet to reveal yellow skin, blue eyes, and short spiked hair with red stripes. The girl could be no older than them. “I’m your granddaughter.” End
