> Derpy Dream Hooves > by PuzzledPegasis > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Prolouge > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "I'll make sure your okay honey. . ." said a grey mare. Her blue eyes were now bloodshot as she ran through the forest, clutching on to something. Panic and adrenaline washed through her as she wheezed and coughed, staggering blindly into a tree. "A-are you okay sweetie?" she looked down at her foal. "Mama?it asked. She smiled back. "It's okay, your okay. You'll be fine." Her breathing got more shallow and she nearly collapsed into the mud. "Mommy's okay. . ." she said though her teeth. She soon spotted a house in the distance. "Oh thank Celestia!" she flapped her wings and lifted herself up off the ground and quickly landed on the doorstep. "Stay here honey, mommy will be back for you someday. . ." She lifted the foal out of her arms and placed it in front of the door. She held back tears as she was about to do one of the hardest things she would ever do in her life. With a kiss on the forehead and a panicked glance backwards, she was gone. She had left her foal. . . . The night air whistled through the trees as the birds give one last goodnight song. The sun has just set in a seemingly desolate forest far beyond reach of civilization. Trees gently sway back and fourth and the stream quietly trickles away into the distance. The tranquil silence is broken by the crickets beginning to sing and the occasional frog chirp. Luna's moon and stars provide a calming light to the forest. All is peaceful. Slowly, a light begins to dawn on the forest. A house, hidden in the brush, begins it's nightly routine. The light's die down and the muffled clip clop of hooves against bare floorboards fill the home. Two mares begin to stir. "Hello sister." one called. "Hello, sleep well?" the other one greeted. The mares chatted about in an sleepy manner till they reached the kitchen. One of them went to the counter and started brewing. The other, went to the front door. "Do you hear that Nightmare?" said the mare putting an ear against the door. Nightmare (no not Nightmare Moon) just sighed. "Stop wasting your time it's probably nothing Dreams. Come and get back to your brewing." she scolded. Dreams went back to the kitchen, her short curly mane bounced along the way. "Sister, it's much too early for the messengers to arrive, but I think I heard somepony out there." She said stepping next to her sister. Nightmare sighed once again, "I suppose I'll go and investigate." Lowering her head, she allowed her straight, red mane to curtain over her face. Carefully she opened the door. "D-Dreams! Come look!" Dreams jumped at the sound of alarm in Nightmare's voice and trotted quickly over to the door. "What is it? Is someone there-?" She was cut off by her own gasp as her eyes lay upon something sitting on the doorstep. A foal, who looked about only a few years old, wrapped in a blanket, fast asleep. She yawned and turned over, providing a better view for the mares: gray, with a shaggy blond mane which seemed to be clinging to her face. She opened her eyes, which caused the two mares to inch backwards into the doorway. Yellow eyes, big and shining. "Who?What?" Dream sputtered, looking at Nightmare for help. "We must not leave the poor filly out here! Go, bring her inside!" Nightmare whispered while shoving Dreams towards the baby, sinking deeper into the house herself. Dreams bit her bottom lip, lifted the foal and brought it inside, placing it on the living room sofa. It playfully lifted it's hooves up towards the mare standing over it. "Mama?" "I-I am certainly not you mother little one!" "Dreams it must be one of the messenger's. Nopony else knows how to reach this place!" "But we know of all the foals our messengers have had, and this one does not look familiar at all!" "We will question them when they return. . ." Nightmare trotted away, "I must get back to my brewing, we have had enough interruptions already." she returned to her station. Dreams gave in and left the foal to herself. There was a knock at the door. "That must be them." said Nightmare, "It is about time." . . . "What do you mean this isn't your foal?!" Nightmare hissed. Her eyes became a deep shade of purple and she soon began to grow and tower over her messengers. "Who's is it?" Her messengers tried to remain straight faced during Nightmare's anger, but some soon broke and snapped their heads downwards, avoiding her eyes. In a veil of smoke she transformed back and turned away. "I'm getting to worked up. . ." she closed her eyes, "I can't place the responsibility of caring for her in your hooves, you all lead busy lives, I just couldn't." She faced them once more. "Perhaps we could care for her sister?" Dreams suggested. Nightmare craned her head in Dreams' direction, "What?" She cannot handle me. I am Nightmare, all foals are afraid of me, this one will be no different!" Her eyes were a mix of fury and sadness. Dreams looked upon her sister in a concerned manner, "You don't know that yet. . ." Nightmare took this into consideration. She looked upon the foal, sitting propped up on the sofa facing them. She walked over and transformed. A could of smoke swirled around her, darkness fell upon the room, the messengers cowered and looked away. Nightmare was truly terrifying, height reaching up to the ceiling, back arched in a demonic manner, blood oozed from her eyes, hooves sharped into knifes, she stood over the filly. The filly giggled and reached up towards Nightmare. Nightmare was in shock. She quickly turned back. "She is the one." Dreams smiled, "Silly derpy little filly." _____________________________________________ A/N Well random story I had in my head that I though would be cool. It's alittle over the top but I have no idea if you would enjoy it, but I wanted to get it down for others to see. -PuzzledPegasis
