Mr. Cake was sweeping around Sugar Cube Corner while staring out of the window with the pegasi flying about in the evening sky. He enjoyed watching the sky to find comfort in his daily work.

Mrs. Cake was selling some cookies to Twilight at the front counter.

"Thanks for making me a fresh batch of cookies Mrs. Cake! You're always so generous." Twilight gushed.

"Oh its no problem at all dearie, anything for one of my best customers." Mrs. Cake said with a sweet smile as she slid the container of cookies to Twilight over the counter.

"Bye, Mrs. Cake." Twilight said as she levitated the container on her back.

"Come again soon Twilight."

A crash came from behind Twilight and she turned around.

Mr. Cake was standing next to the table that had crashed into the ground. He tensed up and slowly turned around to see Twilight and Mrs. Cake staring at him.

"Are you alright, Mr. Cake?"

"I-I'm fine, Twilight... you should be on your way while I clean this mess." He said stammeringly.

Twilight trotted to the front door and looked back at him. "Do you need some help?"

A small bead of sweat formed at his temple. "N-no you should just leave, its almost closing time."

"Okay, Good bye, Mr. Cake." Twilight cheerfully as she left the bakery.

Mr. Cake locked the front door as she left and hung up the closed sign in the window and then began to pick up the broken table.

"How did that happen?"

Mr. Cake jumped at the voice of his wife's voice behind him. He nervously turned around to face her. "I w-was sweeping and I knocked one of the loose legs out from under the t-table..."

Mrs. Cake's smile faded and replied. "Alright, I'll go put away the leftover's from today."

Mr. Cake let out a sigh of relief as she trotted away. He picked up the broken leg and threw it in a trashcan and lifted the table and set it against the wall. He trotted over to the coat rack and hung his hat and apron on a hanger.

Mr. Cake turned around and almost ran into Pinkie Pie. His heart raised at the sight of the pink mare that he saw daily at the bakery.

"Oh sorry, Pinkie."

"What happened to the display table?" Pinkie asked biting her bottom lip while looking at the table propped against the wall.

"I broke it by accident.." Mr. Cake said while looking down.

"I'll help you fix it tomorrow if you need help." she said sweetly with a smile.

His face was blank. "Okay, thank you Pinkie."

"Good night, Mr. Cake." Pinkie left him and trotted up the stairs to her room, leaving a faint scent of sweet candy behind her.

"Good night, Pinkie." He said as he watched her trot up the stairs with his heart sinking.

Mr. Cake slowly walked to his room with his head drooped down low in depression. He entered the room where his wife was waiting for him, tapping her hoof.

"Did you finish cleaning up that mess you made?" Mrs. Cake asked quietly with a tinge of annoyance in her voice.

"Y-yes dear.." He said in defeat.

Mrs. Cake started glaring at him intensely while throwing her hooves in the air. "I can't believe you fucked up again! Can you not even do the simplest things right?! You're a weak stallion with no brains at all!"

"It was an accident!" Mr. Cake snapped back.

"Yeah, an accident." She turned to face an invisible pony. "Hey guess what! It was an accident!

"It WAS an accident dear..."

"I'm sure it was DEAR, I swear its always an accident with you." She said as she rolled her eyes.

"I make one little mistake and you always yell at me for it..."

"One? What about that fire you almost started on the stove last week?"

"The circuit shorted and sparked in the stove." He said now glaring at his wife.

"And what about your inability to give me a child? That THING down their is about as weak as plywood!" She said pointing down and cringing.

It was his turn to yell. "There's nothing wrong with me! You're the one whose sterile!"

"Yeah, blame everything else besides yourself." She sighed but then continued her glare. "You're a failure as a husband and I have no idea why I'm still here!"

Mr. Cake stomped. "Probably because you don't want anypony in Ponyville knowing that your actually a raging bitch!" He snapped.

"A raging bitch?!" She clenched her teeth in anger. She reached over and gave Mr. Cake's face a quick jab with her hoof and hitting him dead center in the muzzle.

Mr. Cake sprawled backwards covering his muzzle and fighting the urge to strike his wife back.

Mrs. Cake continued to glare at him. "See? You never were stallion enough for me, you don't have any backbone at all." She waved her hoof at him. "Go sleep on the couch tonight, I'm tired of looking at your face." She turned to walk to her bed feeling triumphant.

He clenched his teeth and through his hooves and teeth he muttered "Bitch." before he left the room. He walked into the living room and laid down on the couch still holding his muzzle, checking to see if it was bleeding. He sat up after checking his muzzle and put his head between his hooves in deep depression.

Mr. Cake jumped as a hoof touched his shoulder. He turned his head and saw a concerned pink mare.

"Mr. Cake? Are you alright? I heard some yelling." Pinkie asked sincerely.

"Y-yes.. Pinkie I'm fine."

Pinkie turned on the lamp next to the couch and gasped at him. "Your nose is swollen!" She trotted around the couch to get in front of him. She grabbed his head lightly with both hooves and pulled him closer. "Let me have a look."

When Pinkie touched his face Mr. Cake felt ripples of relief go through his body and his heart felt alive again at the kind gesture. He stared into her eyes that were looking down at his muzzle.

"It doesn't look so bad... One second I'll be right back." Pinkie trotted off into the kitchen.

She returned moments later with a small baggy filled with ice. She gently poked at the swollen muzzle with the ice a few times before she slowly set the whole bag on his muzzle. "This should make the swelling go down." She smiled at him while holding the bag up.

"P-Pinkie.." Mr. Cake was lost for words from being treated like a pony, most ponies talked to his wife and he usually held his tongue. "T-thank you so much."

Pinkie Pie's smile widened. "I'm glad to help." Her smile faded as a question popped up in her head. "How did this happen, Carrot Cake?"

He was surprised that she called him by his full name, everyone that spoke to him just called him Mr. Cake. He rubbed the back of his neck as Pinkie held the icepack with questioning eyes. "Uhh... When I was cleaning the table I stepped on a piece of wood and it launched up and hit me in the face.."

Pinkie Pie raised her eye brow. "But I watched you clean it up, I never saw a piece of wood hit you..."

"It.. it happened really fast Pinkie, it's fine though." He tried to muster a small smile.

"No, it's not fine, you're hurt." Pinkie grabbed his hoof and brought it up to the hoof she was using to hold the icepack.

Mr. Cake felt his heart flutter from the touch of their hooves.

"Hold this, I'll be right back." Pinkie removed her hoof and trotted back into the kitchen.

He held up the ice pack and watched her trot off.

She came back quickly with a glass of milk and she handed it to him. "Here, milk always makes me feel better."

He grabbed the glass and stared into Pinkie's eyes and he loved how they shone in the dim light. "Thank you so much, Pinkie."

Pinkie gently smiled. "You're not sleeping on the couch tonight are you?"

"Yes, I am."

"Why?" Pinkie's head turned with the question.

"Cup Cake has a cold, and I didn't want to catch it."

Pinkie looked at the couch but then smiled at him. "Okie dokie lokie. Good night Carrot Cake." She walked off towards her stairs.

Pinkie stopped at the top of the stairs and looked down with her hoof edging towards them, fighting the urge to go back. No, hes with Cup Cake.. I-I can't.... She continued to her room with a heavy heart.

He drank the glass of milk and didn't bother to put up the glass and just set it down on the floor next to the couch. He laid down on the couch again, this time feeling comfort and he drifted off to sleep.

"GAH!"

Pinkie shot up from her bed from the outburst and she looked frantically around the room. She didn't see anything so she hopped out of bed and trotted to her front door where she heard the Cakes talking.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Carrot Cake was in a deep sleep on the couch, his mouth was gaping open and a hoof was brushing against the floor.

Cup Cake saw him asleep so soundly and scowled. She went into the kitchen and brought back an ice cold glass of water and he stood over him. She tipped the glass over him and he quickly went from peaceful to rigid.

"GAH!"

He looked at his wife. "What was that for?!"

"You need to get up and get to work." she said coldly.

He looked at the clock on the wall and his temper rose. "We don't open for another hour, DEAR."

"Oh! Did you already forget the table you broke? Fix it. You should probably get Pinkamena to help you. You won't be able to lift that thing by your scrawny self." She left to go into the kitchen.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pinkie had been listening to the conversation. Scrawny? He's almost as big as a farm stallion. Why was she so mean to him? Pinkie scratched her head wondering why and then she knew. The yelling...Carrot Cake being sad and his swollen nose...No that can't be true, Cup Cake is way too nice... I'm sure it's just a misunderstanding, I'll ask him about it later and we can laugh at my silly idea.

She hopped down the stairs and saw Mr. Cake starting to look at the table's damages. She snuck up behind him and tapped his shoulder.

He spun around expecting his wife and he had his mouth open to yell.

He quickly regained himself. "Sorry Pinkie, good morning."

"Good morning Mr. Cake, do you need help?"

He had turned around and continued to look at the table's unoccupied socket. The thought of being with anyone other than his wife, especially Pinkie, made him happy. "Yes, I need to go and see if Nails has opened his shop yet. I'll need your help to carry some things."

She smiled. "Okie dokie lokie!"

They both left the bakery and the sun was poking its head over the horizon.

They reached a simple building that had a sign in the window 'Nail's nails.' and it had a picture of a pile of nails next to a hammer. The door was closed and Mr. Cake almost cursed.

"Pinkie do you know when Nail opens his shop?"

Pinkie looked up at the building. "Well, he opens before Sugar Cube Corner does." She smiled at him. "Lets wait for it to open."

Carrot Cake looked down at the ground and sighed. 'I guess this could be a good long break from Cup Cake...' He looked up and gave Pinkie a gentle smile. "Okay, it cant be too long." He walked over to the front steps and sat on the top step and sighed.

Pinkie bounced over and took a seat on the steps as well. They both starred out into the waking Ponyville and she thought it was a good time to tell him about her funny thought.

"Carrot Cake?"

"Yes Pinkie?"

She giggled. "When I was thinking last night and for a moment I thought Cup Cake was the one who gave you that swollen nose, silly huh?" She smiled but it slowly faded as she saw his reaction. "Carrot.."

He put his head between his hooves. "I'm so miserable because of her...."

Pinkie gaped. "Y-you mean she really did..?"

He nodded his head while staring wide-eyed down at the ground remembering last night.

"I-I had no idea.. I'm sorry.."

"It's fine Pinkie..you didn't know.."

Pinkie sat up straight and put a hoof over his shoulder. "Why do you let her treat you so badly?"

"There's nothing I can do about it... I can't hurt anypony and if I try to divorce her I can lose the bakery... it's been in my family for generations and her father is the local judge so I don't stand a chance.."

"What are you going to do..?" She had no idea he was so troubled.

He sighed and brought his head up to look at the sunrise. "I guess the only thing I can do is continue to carry this for the rest of my life.. the bakery is all I have."

She couldn't think of anything to say so she bit her lip. On the inside she was angry at Cup Cake I can't believe she could treat him like this! She takes him for granted when hes all I ever wanted in a stallion... strong, smart, and nice.. he taught me everything I know about baking ever since I came to the bakery to be an apprentice after I left the family rock farm. I shouldn't tell him how I feel.. it would probably make things worse. I should cheer him up.

Pinkie jumped up from the steps and walked in front of him with a large smile. "Show me a smile! I'm sure things will be better soon!"

He looked up at the pink mare and couldn't help but smile back. He knew things wouldn't get better but he was ready to believe in anything that she told him. "Y-yeah..."

Her smile intensified. "There you go! A smile is all it takes!"

To steal my heart... He thought. No, she doesn't like you like that Carrot. Be grateful you have someone who cares about you. He sat up straighter now back in a good mood and the door behind them clicked and it became unlocked, opening the store.

The two entered the store and bought the supplies to attach a new leg to the table and Mr. Cake had to order a leg to be made. He gave Nails the measurements and Nails told them to pick up the new table leg later today at noon.

They left the store and quietly walked back to the bakery. Carrot Cake had returned to his depressed state as they neared the bakery and Pinkie noticed it.

She hopped ahead and stood in front of him. "Where did that smile go?" She said showing her bright smile.

"Sorry Pinkie.. I was just thinking."

"About what?"

He sighed. I know I love her.. ever since she came to the bakery I've loved her...But I'm older than she is and she won't love me back. He looked at Pinkie's face and it forced him to smile. "It's nothing, we should get the bakery open now."

They both entered the bakery, a little too close together, and Mrs. Cake was waiting for them.

Mrs. Cake had a scowl on her face when she looked at her husband, but saw Pinkie and quickly changed into a warm smile. "Hello Pinkie, we need to start baking fresh goods for today while he starts to fix the table. Okay dearie?"

Pinkie no longer felt comfortable around her but managed to put on a fake smile. "O-okay Mrs. Cake..."

Pinkie and Mrs. Cake left to the kitchen and as they disappeared in the doorway Pinkie popped back up for a second to wave before she disappeared a second time.

Mr. Cake went about his usual chores for the day to keep the shop cleaned as he waited for the replacement leg for the table to be complete.

He went into the kitchen to take out the trash that was kept in the corner of the kitchen. He looked up as he was lifting the trash can and saw his wife and Pinkie working over the stove.
Pinkie was humming a tune and she wiggled her flank to the rhythm as she stirred a mixture over the burner.
His mouth was gaped at the sight and almost dropped the trashcan. He had to tear his eyes away and shake his head to continue his chores.

Later he was sweeping around the shop in places he thought were overdue. He was sweeping peacefully , he had taken it as a time of meditation and his thinking time, and Pinkie had ran past him.

She was setting up goodie displays around the shop and she left her normal candy scented trail behind her.

He had his eyes closed and was lazily leaning on the broom and as the scent touched his nostrils and surprised him and he fell off of his broom and smacking against the floor.

Pinkie tensed up at the loud smack and she turned around quickly to see Mr. Cake on the ground. She ran quickly to his side.

"What happened?" She said as she handed him a hoof.

He didn't take the hoof and just pulled himself up. "N-nothing I just lost my balance."

Pinkie giggled. "Okay silly."

The sound of Pinkie's giggle made him want to rush into the kitchen and yell at his wife in bravery exclaiming that he loved Pinkie, but he wouldn't do that.

Pinkie bounced away to continue her task leaving him there still dazed by the smell of candy.

He loved that scent so much, it made him happy and he continued his store duties.

It was noon and Mr. Cake was starting to leave the bakery when he was stopped by his wife.

"Hold it!"

He sighed and turned to face his wife.

"Take these and deliver them to their houses around Ponyville."

She piled him high with warm boxes.

"Hurry up and get back so you can fix this table." She turned sharply and trotted back into the kitchen.

He gritted his teeth. Does she honestly expect me to be able to carry all of this! He struggled to open the front door.

Pinkie saw from a distance and did something she rarely did, she scowled at Mrs. Cake. Shes way too mean to him! I don't see why she thinks she deserves him.. hes always super nice and she just treats him like icky garbage! Pinkie huffed and bucked into the air. Calm down Pinkie.. I should go help him. She quickly trotted over and grabbed some boxes from behind and places them on her back.

He was able to finally move without fear of dropping some of the containers. "Oh thank you Pinkie."

She smiled brightly and opened the front door.

The two left the bakery and headed towards the carpenters store while stopping at a few houses to deliver the orders.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

They had retrieved the replacement leg for the table and delivered all of the boxes and they were slowly walking home.

Mr. Cake was already feeling tired and there was still a quarter left in the day.

Pinkie looked over at Mr. Cake as they walked and she couldn't bite her tongue anymore. She walked closer to him. "Carrot?"

"Yes Pinkie?"

"Please don't let her keep treating you like that, I can't stand seeing you so miserable...."

"There's nothing I can do about it Pinkie..."

She wanted to badly tell him how she felt but they just continued to walk in silence back to the bakery. They walked into the bakery and saw Mrs. Cake hanging up her apron.

She saw the two enter and she gave them a quick smile. "I have to leave, my father needs my help, mother is sick. I'll be back tomorrow morning." She rushed past them, giving Mr. Cake a quick shove on the way out, leaving Pinkie and Mr. Cake alone in the bakery.

The two just continued the rest of their daily tasks, Mr. Cake had the table's new leg drying off while he worked at the counter and Pinkie continued to bake orders that came in.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was closing time and they both worked in sync together to put away everything to close the bakery.

Mr. Cakes heart sang at the thought of being able to sleep in the bed without his wife tonight.

He decided to unwind on the couch to free himself of the stress of the days work had given him.

Pinkie finished putting away leftover batter and ingredients that were left out and she turned off the lights of the kitchen. She was on her way to her room but she saw Mr. Cake sitting on the couch in the living room and she bit her lip and her heart became heavy and the stressed out stallion. I can't take this anymore! I have to tell him how I feel... its not right, but maybe he feels the same way? she walked into the living room and sat down on the couch next to Mr. Cake.

"How are you feeling?" Pinkie asked with a gentle smile.

He looked beside him and the smile melted away all of his stress. "I'm feeling alright."

"Are you sure?"

"...No.. I hate my wife so much... I'm just glad I have someone that treats me like a pony, thank you Pinkie..." He took a deep breath. No, don't tell her, you might make her feel awkward.

"Carrot Cake?" Pinkie said now taking a deep breath herself.

"Yes?"

She scooted closer to him. "I know your married.. but I can't stand this anymore! Your wife is a meany and doesn't deserve you!" She was now completely facing him.

"Pinkie..?" He was surprised and couldn't believe what he was hearing.

"You were always the one that taught me how to bake right, you were always so nice to me and... and... I love you!" She quickly said it as if it were stuck inside of her and she had to force the words out. "I'm sorry but you're everything I've ever wanted in a stallion... So nice and strong and you taught me everything... and your wife takes you for granite and I just can't stand it! Please please please don't be mad at me.."

"Pinkie.. are you serious?"

She nodded her head, keeping a stern expression waiting for a response.

He looked down at the floor. "Pinkie.. ever since you came to the bakery I've loved just the sight of you and I love how you always made everyone smile. Everyday I wake up I just hope to hear the sound of your voice past the yells of my w- my wife..." He couldn't stand to call that mare his wife anymore. "Pinkie, I love you too but..." He looked back up to stare Pinkie in her eyes.

Pinkies eyes were shining. "But what..?"

"I-I...." He couldn't control himself he lunged forward and surprised Pinkie with a short kiss.

He quickly pulled away. "I'm sorry...I could never be with you Pinkie.. no matter how much I love you.. nobody would allow it."

Pinkie grabbed his head surrounding her hooves around his face. "I don't care." She pulled herself onto him and he fell backwards on the couch into a passionate kiss with their muzzles meeting and their tongues dancing into an awkward ballet. The prize being the ability to come up for air.

After several moments he broke the kiss. "Pinkamena, I love you. I just wish this didn't have to be a secret."

They hugged each other tightly. "I love you too Carrot Cake..and it's fine we will do whatever we have to be together."

She got up from the couch and slowly pulled him to his hooves and led him by her fluttering tail to the top of the stairs and entered her room. She pushed Gummy out of the room before she closed and locked it behind her.

The sun hit the eyelids of Carrot Cake through the window and he brought his hoof up to try to block it and open his eyes. He looked beside himself and saw Pinkie cuddled next to him and he smiled remembering the night. Both of their manes were messed up and still sweaty from the long glorious night. He couldn't remember a night where he stayed up so late, he usually enjoyed his sleep it was one of the few escapes from that thing he called a wife. He slithered his hooves from under Pinkie and slowly got out of the bed, careful not to wake her up. He trotted down the stairs to get to his room and he was relived to not see, or any sign, of his wife being home at all and jumped into his shower to clean himself up.

He quickly showered and dried himself off and hurried to open the bakery for today. He rushed to get everything set up and even did Pinkies normal opening routine. Once everything was set he unlocked the door, opened the curtains and nonchalantly went behind the counter to wait for any potential customers.

Carrot Cake was tired from the lack of sleep and propped his head up on the counter with his hoof. Instead of dozing off he began to day dream about his night with his pink goddess. He was spaced out but then the front door slammed open and Cup Cake stumbled into the bakery, her appearance was peculiarly pecuntuous.

Pinkie hopped down the stairs and she had cleaned herself up and brushed her coat to improve her appearance.

Carrot Cake was practically in between them and he saw Pinkie and he had to force his jaw from being dropped. He looked at his wife and felt a deep disgust for her.

Cup Cake groggily walked up to the counter and slammed a hoof in front of him. "I'll be asleep, don't wake me up." She had a heavy aura of whiskey around her and she couldn't stand up correctly and constantly swayed to the side.

He never liked the smell nor taste of alcohol. "Ugh.. Have you been drinking?!" He said as he put a hoof over his muzzle.

"Thas nun of yer dam business!" She said as she banged a hoof on the table again. She looked across the room and saw Pinkie staring at her and gave her a drunken smile. "Oh, goosh morning Pinkie."

Pinkie wanting nothing more than to buck her in the face but she put on a cheerful smile. "Hello, Cup Cake." There was no way Pinkie was ever wanting to call her Mrs. Cake ever again. In her eyes, Carrot Cake was secretly hers now. "Need me to help you to your room?"

"Iem fine pankie..." She slowly exited the front of the bakery and disappeared behind a corner to head to her room.

Pinkie quickly went to Carrot's side and they shared a quick kiss as the drunken mare had left. Pinkie then quickly went into the kitchen to get ready for business.

The two worked in perfect harmony and their work quality increased regardless of their lack of sleep. Customers noticed the quality of the baked goods and service and left happy and most left tips which were scarce to any bakery. The two resonated from the front counter to the kitchen and each time they passed each other they shared a quick but passionate kiss when nopony was around and sent warm smiles to each other from a distance.

The day had gone smoothly and it was time to close the bakery. The two worked in perfect unison to clean up everything and Pinkie hung the sign over the door and Carrot locked the door at the same time.

The week was the same, Cup Cake had become lazy and saw that the two could handle the bakery themselves so she thought it was only fit that she would allow them to continue their productive work while she lazed around all day and left the bakery frequently. The two had never been happier as they worked together and treated it as if it was both of their bakery without Cup Cake around and more customers have even came in more frequently because of the quality service.

They both had alot of time to secretly be together, but these short bursts of romance were also a time for sorrow as they both knew that this could only be a secret.

Carrot wanted to climb to the highest mountains and scream his love for Pinkie all over Equestria and also yelling how much he hated his wife.

Pinkie had never been happier in all of her life being with Carrot Cake, but it burned her inside and made her smiles weaker to the fact that they could only be together in secret.

It was at the end of the week for the bakery and they were closed tomorrow and it was closing time.

Cup Cake had left earlier saying that she was going to visit her parents.

Carrot knew that was her normal excuse to go out drinking, but didn't ever say so because Pinkie was always near and didn't want her to know that she was an alcoholic.

Carrot and Pinkie Pie were upstairs lying in bed breathing heavily, both sticky with sweat and various other fluids. They held each other in their hooves with smiles on their faces but frowns in their hearts.

"Pinkie..." He said with his expression indifferent.

"yes?" Her eyes were shining with happiness.

"I don't want this to be a secret.. i want us to truly be together." He gentle stroked her mane.

Pinkie nuzzled his chest. "It's okay, like I said we will do everything we need to be together."

He thought for a moment and quietly said. "..Like get rid of Cup Cake..?"

She looked up to him in surprise. "What? how?"

He cleared his throat. "Well, I kind of have an idea..."

Pinkie looked at Cup Cake who was at the counter from the kitchen with her hoof over her mouth. She had a worried tone and she turned to Carrot Cake who was behind her. "Are you sure?"

His expression was stern. "Yes, I want to do anything to be with you freely... even if it has risks."

Pinkie showed her normal smile and wrapped her forearms around his shoulders and they shared a deep kiss. She withdrew from him and let out a deep breath. "Okay, I'm ready."

Cup Cake was having a conversation with a customer, Cherilee, who had just purchased some baked goods for her class.

"Thank you so much for making these on short notice, I should have called earlier but I have been grading this terms tests." Cherilee said with a sheepish grin as she took the container.

Cup Cake put on her most pleasant smile. "It's no trouble dear, I'm always willing to help-" She saw Pinkie Pie and Carrot Cake behind Cherilee, they were looking around the store as if they were checking if anyone was watching. Cup Cake felt a wave of confusion wash over her as she saw them lock lips in front of her, but then she grew angry and slammed her hoof on the counter. "WHAT ARE YOU TWO DOING?!"

Cherilee turned around to see what she was talking about, along with rubbing a hoof on her ear from the shout. She saw Carrot looking at his wife with confusion as he was stacking goodies on the supply table, and Pinkie had paused from sweeping the floor and she was also confused.

"Honey, are you alright?" He asked sincerely to Cup Cake.

She slammed her hoof on the counter again. "DON'T PLAY DUMB! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!"

"Um... Honey, have you been drinking again?"

"What do you think, you idiot?" She asked through her gritted teeth.

"I'll...uh.. just go?" Cherilee hurriedly left the bakery.

Cup Cake froze up, she had yelled at her husband in front of somepony in public. Ugh...it's just one and Cherilee isn't one to gossip.. She looked under the counter at her whiskey bottle, there was only a few sips of it left. She felt her forehead Maybe I am still hungover.. she got back up from the counter and the two had left.

The rest of that day was slow, no pony else had come in and they closed up the bakery early.

Cup Cake had already passed out on her bed, Carrot closed the bedroom door and went into the kitchen where Pinkie was waiting for him.

"Do you think it worked?" She asked, showing her nervous expression from earlier.

"I hope so, she didn't catch us and she saw Cup Cake yell at us, also she knows that Cup Cake drinks now." He hung up his apron and hat on a hanger in the kitchen. "I really hope this works like I planned."

"How do we get more witnesses?"

He rubbed his chin in thought. "Well... I think I have an idea for that too."

Pinkie was at the front desk, taking orders from the constant flow of ponies entering the store. Wow, he was right, a bake sale is really bringing in the customers.. I wonder what hes planning now. She looked over at the kitchen and saw Carrot working over then stove with haste.

Carrot was busy cooking up orders, he had his plans, but the success of the bakery was important. He was in deep focus on the several pots on the burners and checking the oven every few minuets, waiting for the next batch of baked goods to be done.

Cup Cake was in the back preparing containers for the orders, still thinking about the other day when she thought she saw Pinkie and Carrot kiss in front of her. She still questioned it, even though she had been drinking that morning. I'm not going to let some little slut take my husband.. sure I don't love him, I never have, but I'm not letting that weak stallion kick me out of this bakery. the more she thought about it she began to grit her teeth, imaging the young pink mare under Carrot. She hadn't calmed down, but her anger didn't show on her face as she took the containers to her husband and quietly set them down on the table behind him. she trotted out to the front desk to help Pinkie take orders.

She put on a cheery voice and spoke to Pinkie. "We sure are getting alot of orders, aren't we Pinkamena?"

Pinkie really did not want to talk to her. Pinkie had never disliked anypony so much, in fact she had never disliked anypony at all, but she hated her. "Y-yes Cup Cake."

Cup Cake raised an eye in suspicion. "You normally call me Mrs. Cake during the work hours."

Pinkie bit her lip, and to her luck another customer had come. She took the customers order and told him to wait patiently for it to finish. She had hopped that Cup Cake would have dropped the subject, but as the customer walked to sit at a table Cup Cake spoke up again.

"Pinkie?" She asked, her thoughts still on hate.

"Yes Cup Cake?" Pinkie tried to sound innocent.

"I would like it if you called me by Mrs. Cake, if you don't mind." She wanted the pink mare to know that she was Carrot's wife.

"Okie dokie..." Pinkie trailed off and began to organize some objects below the counter, ignoring Cup Cake's whiskey bottle.

Cup Cake had began to walk back into the kitchen, but she bumped into Carrot who was carrying an order of cake to the counter.

The container had busted open and the cake was splattered all over Cup Cake, covering her face down to her chest.

Cup Cake was still angry from earlier, but now she was furious. She slowly wiped away the frosting from her eyes to see the cringing Stallion in front of her. "You....."

Everypony in the room was peacefully talking to their neighbor, waiting patiently for their orders.

Cup Cake continued. "You.. WORTHLESS STALLION!" Her words echoed through the bakery.

The talking in the room had ceased and all eyes were on Carrot and Cup Cake.

Cup Cake poked at his chest. "You stupid waste of space! Why did you throw frosting in my face!?"

Carrot was still cringing, now trying to make himself look smaller for the crowd's gazing eyes. "H-honey, it was an accident."

"Yeah! An accident! Ugh..." She wiped off more of the frosting off of her and she gritted her teeth. She finally lost her temper and she delivered a heavy blow to the side of Carrot's muzzle and it sent him falling over backwards back into the kitchen.

The crowd gasped as they saw what had happened.

Cup Cake tensed up and looked at the source. She got angry and turned to face all of them. "What?! You want some too?!"

The crowd had stayed silent, shocked at what they had just seen. They had all known Cup Cake for a very pleasant mare, now they knew what she really was.

Cup Cake growled at the crowd she stuck her head in the kitchen. "I'll be at my mothers, Don't mess anything else up and finish today's orders." she trotted past the glaring crowd as if nothing happened and exited the bakery.

As she left a few of the ponies had went into the kitchen to see Pinkie helping Carrot stand up.

One of the mares spoke. "Are you okay Mr. Cake?"

"Y-yeah I'll be fine, its not the first time this has happened..." He said groggily while checking his muzzle for bleeding.

"What? This isn't the first time?" A colt said with disbelief.

"If you want, I could help finish today's orders if you like.. You shouldn't be working after something like that." Said another mare.

"It's fine. You should go back outside and wait for your orders."

The three ponies hesitantly left the kitchen.

Carrot stood up and gave a weak smile, still feeling the pain, to Pinkie. "It worked."

"But you're really hurt..." She said while rubbing the side of his face.

"I'll be fine, I'll talk to you after we finish filling out their orders."

"Do you think you can do it?" Pinkie asked, very concerned for her lover.

"Yeah, and it will hopefully help us even more."

They shared a quick kiss and Pinkie returned to the front desk, over hearing the ponies conversations.

The crowd had begun to talk about what had happened, some had left the bakery to tell their friends.

Pinkie Pie and Carrot had continued to work, and each pony they served had an awkward stare, a few had told them "Wow, she was a bitch." or "I feel really bad for Mr. Cake, he must be devastated."

The two had finished all of the orders and closed the shop hours early, and nopony questioned it because everypony knew about Cup Cake now.

Carrot had exited the kitchen with something in his teeth and he walked up to Pinkie who was cleaning the counter top. He dropped the papers on the table and showed her. "These are the divorce papers I filled out a month ago, in case I couldn't take it anymore. Now They are filed and ready for the court."

"Court?" She picked up the papers and read through them. "Wow.. so, Cup Cake will be leaving?"

"I hope so, we have enough character witnesses now for the court." He smiled, triumphant that his planned had worked without exposing his affair.

Pinkie's eyes shone and she hugged Carrot Cake in happiness, soon they wouldn't have to keep their relationship a secret.

~*~ Later That Week ~*~

Cup Cake was talking with her mother in the living room, they were in a house in the country side of Ponyville so she wasn't worried about her parents knowing what she did.

Knock Knock

"I'll get that mother." Cup Cake said sweetly.

"Oh thank you dear."

Cup Cake went to the door and saw a stallion wearing a cheap suit. "Hello?"

The stallion brought a hoof to his mouth to quickly clear his throat. "Are you Cup Cake, bakery owner in Ponyville?"

"Yes?"

The stallion pulled out a piece of paper from his coat pocket and handed it to Cup Cake. "You have been summoned to court, the court date is on the third, two days from now. The time is on the paper, good afternoon madam." The stallion walked away, his job complete.

Cup Cake read the paper and got angry when she finished. "Divorce!?" She bellowed loudly that the birds flying above turned around to fly away and a confused mother from inside the house to peer at the doorway.

The day of the trial had come, Pinkie and Carrot were outside of the building moments before the court was scheduled to begin.

Carrot took a deep breath. "I hope we come out on top..."

Pinkie fixed his hair a little and put her hooves on the side of his face in assurance, not touching the bandages from the blow a few days ago. She smiled and her smile made Carrot forget all of his worries.

They both entered the building and quickly found the court hall where on one side of the isle were their friends and customers that had seen Cup Cake's true nature. The other side of the isle had only three ponies as Cup Cake's character witnesses.

Pinkie took her seat next to Cherilee and began to chat lightly.

Carrot continued to the front and sat down at a desk with his civil attorney.

The guard next to the stand where the judge sat saw the judge come in. "All stand."

All of the ponies in the room stood up as the judge made his way to his elevated seat.

"Please be seated." The guard said as the judge sat.

The judge looked over the two ponies before him and surprisingly saw his daughter. "Why are we here?"

Carrot's attorney stood up and spoke clearly. "My client, Carrot Cake, wants to divorce his wife in hopes of no reimbursement."

"Very well, you may provide the jury with your evidence to prosecute or defend your client." He told the attorneys.

The court room was filled with tension, Cup Cake tried to look innocent but you could feel the hate radiating from her thoughts.

Several ponies were asked to give a brief example on their behavior and their opinions on the case.

Pinkie was the first to go to the stand and she was really nervous.

Pinkie spoke and tried to avoid the gaze of Cup Cake. "I've worked with the Cakes for several years and I always thought of Cup Cake as a good teacher..."

Cup Cake was relieved, she thought Pinkie was going to be against her.

"But then two weeks ago I found out that she is very aggressive and hit her husband, and that she has also been aggressive without my knowledge of it before I knew."

Cup Cake's mouth was gaped What?! How did she know?!.... I knew it..

The judge dismissed Pinkie and she returned to her new seat in the front next to Carrot.

Several more ponies were asked to give their character assessments.

"I always thought she was so sweet, but the other day I saw her hit her husband with all of her strength and he fell over backwards.. it was an awful sight." A mare had testified.

Another mare had defended Cup Cake's character. "She has always been a darling, and I'm sure that what happened the other day was just a misunderstanding."

Cherilee took the stands. "I never knew that she was a bad pony, but she is a drinker and thats not tolerable when shes always around children, I remember several times where she had slurred speech."

A colt took the stands for Carrot. "Ah sometimes saw Mr. Cake ther, with some bruises and asked him about a few of 'em, an' he always told me these weird things tha' happened. Ah guess it was Mrs. Cake beatin on the poor fella, and him bein a stallion an all, he couldn' hit back.

Regardless of Cup Cake's character defense, the numbers of the offense were alot higher, and all with bad opinions on Cup Cake.

The judge looked at his daughter and never thought that she was capable of being so cruel, and he blocked his emotions and memories of his daughter and now thought of her as just another pony.

After all of the evidence was gone through, Cup Cake's chances of winning were almost non existent. A long history of abuse, both verbal and physical, and working a bakery while intoxicated

The judge called for the jury to make their assessment, and it only took five minutes for them to make their decision.

The jury took their seats and one of the stallions had a piece of paper, ready to tell the judge the decision.

"What is the verdict?" The judge said as he gripped his gavel.

The colt stood up and spoke clearly, and with a tinge of hate in his voice. Just about everypony in the room now hated Cup Cake. "We find that the divorce should be final, and that no reimbursement is given to the defendant."

The judge tapped the gavel. "The jury has made their decision, this court is over in this decision." He tapped the gavel again and saw the crowds reaction.

The crowd that supported Carrot clapped and the crowd that supported Cup Cake just shrugged and left.

Pinkie had ran up next to Carrot and they hugged each other tightly.

Cup Cake's mouth was gaped in surprise. She saw Pinkie run up and hug Carrot and she lost her temper and her voice bellowed throughout the courtroom. "YOU LITTLE SLUT!"

Pinkie stopped hugging Carrot, the room was silent and she began to shrink at being called such a word.

Cup Cake looked on the desk and grabbed the glass of water and shattered the top of it on the table, sending the water splashing to the ground and she lunged at Pinkie.

Carrot saw his ex-wife grab the glass and he immediately knew her intention and he pushed Pinkie behind himself and extended his hoof forward, ready for the rampaging mare.

The guard was trained to always be ready for a situation like this and he galloped forward and grabbed Cup's hoof, inches before it was about to cut Carrot on his hoof.

Cup was being restrained by the guard, but was already becoming loose and still swinging the broken glass at Carrot and Pinkie.

Three other guards had come in the room and rushed to help restrain the mare, it took all four of them to fully restrain her and pull her out of the room.

The judge saw in disgust as his daughter behaved in such a manor, but then sighed and realized that she had just threatened someone in the courtroom with a weapon. He just stood up and left the courtroom to relax and press his hooves against his temples to help relieve the stress.

Pinkie had closed her eyes as soon as she saw Cup get up with the glass and only felt being moved a little. She opened her eyes and saw Carrot standing in front of her, he had protected her and she felt as if she owed her life to him now.

Carrot turned around as soon as he was sure that Cup was gone. "It's okay, I'm not going to let anyone hurt you, ever."

They happily left the courtroom together, and they were now free to show their relationship in front of others now that Carrot Cake had no wife.

They returned to the bakery and the first thing that they did was make sure that the sign said 'closed' before they disappeared inside of Carrot's bedroom.

~*~* 7 Years Later ~*~*

Everypony in Ponyville quickly knew of Pinkie's and Carrot's relationship with each other. At first it felt awkward for some, but everypony eventually accepted it as how it should be, seeing how happy they were together.

Pinkie's friends were very accepting of her love with Carrot. A year later when they were getting married Pinkie's friends all had wanted to be Pinkie's mare of honor and there was a little chaos in that time, but it was quickly resolved as Dash being her mare of honor.

On the week of their wedding they heard on the radio talk show news about a mare in prison being killed. The killer was a mare from Prance named Grindstone who was paid in cigarets to do the job, apparently the victim wouldn't learn to keep her mouth shut in prison and nobody liked her.

They had a good idea on who the victim was.

Pinkamena Pie had become Pinkamena Cake, but she still goes by Pinkie.

Two years after their marriage they had two children, there was nothing wrong with Carrot after all, Cup was indeed sterile. Two earth ponies named Pumpkin Cake, after Carrot's mother, and Clyde Cake, after Pinkie's father. The toddlers quickly showed their ability to defy the laws of physics like their mother did.

The family grew and the bakery had been more successful being ran by Pinkie and Carrot.

Pinkie was tucking her children in bed upstairs in her old room, they were now five years of age.

Pinkie nuzzled Clyde. "Good night my angels."

"Night mom.." Clyde said with a yawn.

Pumpkin was already fast asleep and snoring lightly.

Pinkie left the room and Carrot was waiting for her at the doorway.

They both tiredly went downstairs and went into bed. They both had everything they dreamed of, A loving partner, beautiful children, and the rest of their lives ahead of them.
