> Phoenix > by SilverWind14 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Awakening > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Finally. More power than I could ever imagine.” The cold and eager word of Sunset Shimmer echoed through the cold night of Canterlot City. She grins maniacally as she places Princess Twilight’s crown on her head. After all the planning, time, and effort to get this damn thing she wasn’t about to let some group of goody two-shoes get in the way of her plans. Celestia’s new protégé has been a thorn in her side since she arrived in this world, gaining the love and trust of everyone at the school. So much so that winning the crown “fair and square” like she has been doing since she arrived in this world is no longer an option. Brute force is the only way now.   Once the crown was sitting nice and snug atop her head, Sunset could immediately feel the sudden rush of magic. At long last, the power she’d been craving. At long last, she can finally take over Equestria like she’s always dreamed of. All of a sudden, Sunset’s body felt like it was on fire. A huge burning sensation was overflowing her as the magic became black. In the blink of an eye, it fully consumes her, enveloping her in a bright light. The rest of the girls had to shield their eyes. Twilight had a very bad feeling about this.  Sunset could feel her body begin to transform. Her skin turned a dark shade of red and height and muscles increased. Wings and a tail materializing behind her, ears pointed and sclera turned pitch black. Once the transformation was complete and the light diminished, where there once stood a normal looking high school girl now stands a demon in red. She opens her glowing cyan eyes and looks down at her new look in awe. She lets out an evil cackle, exposing her new fangs, as she admires her new devilish look. Twilight and her new friends could only watch on in horror as Sunset began flapping her wings and rising up into the air. Twilight felt so stupid. How could she let this happen? Her thoughts were interrupted when Rainbow Dash, Applejack, Fluttershy, Rarity, and Pinkie Pie all gathered around her.  “What do we do now, Twilight?” asked Rainbow Dash, trying and failing to hide the fear in her voice. “I-I don’t know!” Twilight replied. She had to think of something fast when Sunset set her gaze on them.  Sunset smirked as she looked down on the cowering group of girls. “At long last,” she says, her voice sounding a bit demonic. “All the power I could ever dream of!”  Her hands began to glow as she charged up a powerful magic blast similar to how she did when she was a unicorn in Equestria. In each hand, she forms two glowing balls of magic energy. She lets out a laugh as she raises her arms up and fires the blast right towards the girls. Twilight and the others readied themselves only to realize that the balls of energy went right over their heads and right into the Canterlot High horse statue resting atop the portal to Equestria. With a loud boom, the statue explodes, sending pieces of it flying in all directions.  Sunset’s laughter echoes through the night. That evil demonic laugh sent chills down the girl’s backs. Twilight doesn’t know what to do. She’s never had to face a threat this powerful without any magic before.  Sunset’s laughter suddenly stops abruptly when she hears the sound of someone gasping behind her. She turned around and saw some students who had come outside when they heard the loud commotion. They were completely dumbfounded to find a monster outside destroying things. They noticed that the monster turned around to face them and scrambled to get back inside and lock the doors behind them. Sunset found this amusing. She raised her right hand and it immediately began to glow. Just like her hand, the school’s entrance also began to glow and with a quick crushing gesture, the school’s entrance was crushed into smithereens. She tossed the ruble aside and began floating towards the students, now in full on panic mode, scrambling for their lives.  “Stop, Sunset Shimmer!” Sunset stopped and turned around to face Princess Twilight and her new friends. The thought of these mere insects thinking they still have a chance amuses her. “How cute! The gang really is all back together again.” Sunset charges up another ball of magic energy again, much bigger this time then raises it over her head. “After I deal with you lot, I will destroy this pathetic little world, and then Equestria itself!” With one swift motion, she threw the magic blast right at the teens. The girls could do nothing but on to each other and brace themselves as the blast hit them head on, causing a big explosion. Sunset laughed, proud of her good work. She suddenly stopped laughing and gasped when the smoke cleared and saw the girls unharmed and surrounded by a pink aura of magic.  “What the hell is this!?” Sunset screamed. Twilight looked down to see that she and her friends were alright. A bright determined smile grew on her face. She looked up to Sunset and said, “The magic contained in my element was able to unite with those who helped create it!” Suddenly, magic from the crown seemed to be pouring out of the crown and into the girls.  Sunset’s anger grew as she watched as the girls suddenly started to transform like this was one of those stupid old anime show things that she recently learned about. How the hell did Twilight know what was happening? “Enough of this! This ends-” But before she could finish her sentence, she felt a sudden burning sensation on her chest, like her heart was suddenly set ablaze. It felt hot, yet soothing at the same time. Sunset could barely hear Twilight’s stupid monologue through the pain. Something about friendship or whatever. She could care less about any of that as she let out a demonic scream as the sensation was starting to spread throughout her entire body.  Rainbow Dash noticed what was happening and turned to Twilight. “What’s going on with her?”  “I don’t know.” Twilight replied. “Whatever’s happening probably has something to do with my crown. It’s probably extracting her magic.” “That’s one theory.” Applejack said. “What do you say we end this.” Twilight only nodded in agreement. Sunset’s body felt so hot. She felt herself getting weaker and weaker. She looked at her hands to see that they were slowly turning back to normal. Her magic! She’s losing it! These damn girls! Damn Twilight! This was supposed to be her victory! No way she was letting some goody two-shoe bring her down. She was about to retaliate but noticed the girls were now floating above her, all holding hands and forming a heart shape, a spiraling rainbow beam forming above them.  Before she knew it, Sunset  found herself surrounded by the rainbow beam. It was at that moment, she not only felt her magic being completely drained, but at the same time, something else inside her awakened. The burning feeling she was feeling was now suddenly soothing. A sudden rush of amazing power replaced the burning sensation in her body. It felt… good. After a blinding flash of light, Sunset suddenly found herself lying in a deep crater on the ground. No longer in her demon form. Completely back to normal. Her clothes were slightly torn and damaged but no injuries. None that she could feel at least.  She heard footsteps approaching. Oh boy here we go. She looked up to find the girls at the top of the crater, towering over her, looking down on her.  "You will never rule in Equestria!" Twilight began. "Any power you may have had in this world is gone. Tonight, you've shown everyone who you truly are. You've shown them what is in your heart." Sunset looked over to the side to see that the rest of the students were also looking down on her. If she didn't feel so weak, she'd run up that crater and deck Twilight in the face. Instead, she slowly got to her feet, trying to ignore the splitting headache she had. She looked up and looked Twilight in the eyes and weakly said one thing. "Ah you can go shove it"
