A Nightmare Night to Remember
“Winter wrap up, winter wrap up! Tomorrow spring is here… “ Twilight sang to herself as she’s finishing putting up the decorations for the scary fright fest that is Nightmare Night. “And… finished!” Twilight said as she’s finished with setting the decorations up.
“Hehe, wow Twilight… . You literally went all out with this, haven’t you?” Spike said as he’s just awestruck at what he’s seeing… . To Spike’s point of view, it seems magnificent, and awesome at the same time… . To others… , a complete eyesore, or a good excuse to call someone or somepony an overspender because, like what Spike had suggested, she might’ve spent a little way too much on decorations for a scary holiday… . And even that could be an understatement.
“Heh… sorry there Spike.” Twilight sheepishly apologized. “It’s just that I haven’t got the chance to decorate for Nightmare Night before… . And I just got really excited, you know?” Spike, trying to be nice , replied; “I guess so… “ whilst starting to look around at all of the decorations, unamused due to them being cheap, and not so scary looking at all… . Even babies wouldn't get scared by them. They’d just laugh and move on… . That’s all.
Spike began again as he’s messing with one of the decorations out of boredom; “so uh… what’re your plans for the night? Cuz I’m going tricking with Big Mac and Rainbow Dash tonight.” Spike then finished with an evil chuckle. Twilight sighed in disappointment as a response. Reason being is that she knew that whenever it’s Nightmare Night, Spike and his guy friends would always do this for when it’s that holiday… . Especially knowing that Rainbow Dash is in on it too sometimes… , despite having thought at first that she stopped after scaring Fluttershy again that one time alone… . Guess not, as some things, and some ponies, just never change… . Sometimes at all if it’s that bad.
“Okay… “ Twilight began with a tone of disappointment. “But please try to be careful… . And please don’t scare Fluttershy. You know how much she hates that.” Groaning since that was actually planned out, Spike replied with; “fine… . But I’m not making any promises whether I actually scare her or not, got it?” Twilight groans also, yet shakes her head with a chuckle, and then replied back; “okay Spike, whatever you say.” Spike shook his head with a chuckle too, and then goes to get ready for the night.
Flurry Heart is in her bedroom, playing with a toy train set. Usually she would’ve played with her plushies, but she decided that they could use a break, after what happened last week.
Flurry Heart then paused and chuckled nervously, having just saw what she did when she began to look around, as it’s evident from the scorch marks that are in the corners in a few places that separates the floor from the walls. Which pretty much sums up as to why she decided to give her plushies a break… .
She then sets down her toy to look around some more, and then started to look confused. Reason being is that even though Flurry Heart knew that it’s a holiday to celebrate her aunt Luna acting all scary once a year, she found it rather odd that her room wasn’t decorated, and yet the entire castle was decorated for the event. So to her, it was strange, but she eventually stopped thinking about it, and went back with playing, as all toddlers would do in a situation like this.
“Ready for spooky night with Auntie Twilight?” Cadence cooed as she entered her daughter’s room. Flurry unfortunately looked, and screamed in horror from being startled by an unknown pony who looked like one of the wicked witches from one of her bedtime stories. Cadence held out her hooves in reassurance, and said with a motherly, yet slightly nervous tone; “easy there honey… . It’s just me, mommy! You know that right… ?”
Flurry Heart soon eventually regained her composure after a few seconds; having just heard her mother’s voice. Eventually though, she growled in annoyance from having been startled by her own mother, went to get one of the plushies that had a burn mark on it, and then threw it at Cadence as a way of getting revenge on her for scaring her like that. Cadence replied with; “I guess I deserved that… .” and then went to go fix her costume since the plushie hit her square in the face when Flurry Heart threw it; messing up her wig, and ruining the face paint. Flurry Heart then returned to her train set, sat down, and then began playing with it again like nothing happened.
Spike, Shining Armor, Big Mac, and Discord are all huddled together in a group in the middle of Ponyville, wondering as to what they should do first.
Big Mac first suggested that they should do some apple bobbing. The others denied that because Big Mac already suggested that last year, and the year before, so they wanted to do something different. Shining Armor then suggested a haunted attraction. Spike did agree at first, but then rejected the idea as he suddenly remembered that in the past few years, the haunted attractions either proved too scary, or lame and not so scary at all, and are just way too cheesy and or corny to even be considered scary… . Lastly, Discord suggested scaring random ponies. Spike at first agreed, but then denied that also because he then remembered what Twilight had told him… . Not to mention that he reminded Discord as to what happened during the last couple of years, and told him not to frighten anyone like that again; else he’ll have to clean up the “mess” that Fluttershy made during those times that she got caught in the crossfire of their scares. Luckily for them, it was either a nightmare night themed cake, or some tea that Fluttershy had bought because she ran out of them last year. And knowing how skittish, and really sensitive that she could get, Spike really doesn’t want Fluttershy to have a bathroom accident for the first time because of it. So with that, Discord understood, and shook his head, much to the dismay of the other guys, because they were looking forward to doing something fun for the night.
However, just when they think that all hope is lost for them, Spike then got a look that read; “I got an idea!” and then chuckled evilly while wiggling his claws like a villain would do for when they thought of a wicked plan to enact.
“Trick or treat!” Twilight chuckled a bit nervously as she’s in a Starswirl the Bearded costume while holding out a plastic candy basket that looked like a jack-o-lantern in front of Sugarcube Corner.
“Happy Nightmare Night Twilight!” Pinkie said excitedly while greeting her longtime pal at the doorway. “I see you’re wearing that costume again! Huh… . Never thought I’d see you wear the same costume again.” Pinkie then giggled at how she used to remember about dressing up as a chicken, and with Twilight dressing up as Starswirl the Bearded; years ago to be exact.
“Hehe, thanks Pinkie… “ Twilight began with a blush. “I thought that, hey. If we’re still young and such, then I’d figure that I might as well make the most of the youth that we have for now… . Am I right?”
Pinkie giggled sheepishly; surprisingly aware that whenever she acts silly and or childish, she’s aware of it. Who knew?
“Weww we stiww babies!” Poundcake said while also at the doorway standing behind Pinkie Pie while he’s dressed as a salt shaker.
“An I no wike dat… “ Pumpkin Cake commented with a pout; also standing behind Pinkie Pie at the doorway, whist dressed in a pepper shaker costume.
Twilight giggled in response, and said; “hey, could be worse… . If y’all got scared again, then I’m sure your parents wouldn’t enjoy it if y’all were to have accidents in your pants, right?” This made the Cake Twins blush and look down at themselves in embarrassment, despite knowing that they’re no longer in diapers. Seeing that, Twilight just grabbed a few random sweets, placed it in her basket, and then blushed and replied sheepishly; “sorry for mentioning that, and Happy Nightmare Night!” Afte that, she left.
Pinkie meanwhile, giggled sheepishly too; knowing that the Twins secretly still wear diapers to bed due to them still having accidents without their parent’s knowledge, and then replied to the two toddlers; “how about we just wait for more trick or treaters, and then we leave for our own trick or treating… . Huh… ? What do you say?” Pound and Pumpkin responded with throwing their empty candy baskets to the ground with a pout, and then going back upstairs to change out of their costumes. Pinkie then sighed to herself, and said; “I really sure hope Twilight doesn’t make a fool of herself tonight… . Cuz I’m honestly worried for her. Let alone a little embarrassed that Twilight had said all that… . Gee… , being a princess in training does do make Twilight do things she wasn’t aware of at times… . Hehe… . Who knew? Pinkie then noticed a burning smell, got wide eyes, and then said in shock; “my cupcakes!” and then ran back to the kitchen to hopefully salvage what’s left of the cupcakes.
Flurry Heart was fussing a bit because of the costume that her parents picked out for her to wear during Nightmare Night.
“Flurry, quit fussing. We couldn’t find anything else for you to wear, okay… ?” Cadence said, both trying to sound nice in a motherly tone, and yet also sounding annoyed too because her daughter is acting up, right now of all nights.
“It scratchy… .” Flurry Heart began to whine while also scratching her shoulders due to the costume not feeling comfy against her fur and skin underneath.
Cadence sighs in response, and replies; “well it’s either that or home to pass out sweets to other kids that want them. And we all know how much you hate sharing… . Let alone sweets during Nightmare Night.
Flurry Heart then responded back; “not twue… ! I shawre… . At times… .” Cadence then looked back at her daughter, sighs, and then turns to pause and fix her daughter’s costume.
Now feeling what her daughter’s feeling, she realized that Flurry Heart was right, and then responded; “I get why you don’t want to wear this honey, and I understand… . But please… , can’t you just ignore it for awhile… ? I know that your father bought this costume for you because you liked it.” Cadence paused to sigh before continuing. “And the thing is, I didn’t expect this costume to actually not feel comfortable… . I mean… .” Cadence then started having trouble with one of the poofy shoulder sleeves, and then said in slight anger; “I just don’t get why your dad has to get this so cheap… . I mean it’s ridiculous!”
Just then, she accidentally ripped the sleeve, and then sighs while looking defeated, and responded; “you know what… ? Let’s just leave… .” Flurry Heart started to whine because she doesn’t want to leave for home just yet, and began to latch onto one of her mother’s back hooves. In response, Cadence replied; “I’m sorry honey… . But there’s no way I can help with this. I mean, not without… .” But before she could finish, she spotted a nearby costume store with plenty of costumes to choose from. Looking back at her daughter, she asked; “wanna go get a better costume?” Flurry Heart gasped in return, and began hugging and nuzzling her mother’s back hoof. Smiling, Cadence said; “let’s go!” and then took her daughter by the hoof, and walked with her to the store to choose a much better, (and comfier), costume for her.
“Alright… “ Spike said as he and the guys are on top of someone’s rooftop. “This is gonna be good… .” Spike began to smile menacingly.
“Uh… ” Big Mac began as he’s now starting to have second thoughts about pranking the other ponies down below. “I don’t think we should do this… . What if Sugar Belle founded out that I’m a trouble maker, and never wanted to speak to me again?!”
Spike just scoffed it off, and said; “relax… it’s perfectly harmless. Oh look, here we go… “ Spike began again as he’s preparing to pour a bucket of who knows what’s in there… . “Alright now… “ Spike began as a group of ponies are almost at the ‘drop zone’ for the prank. “Three… two… one!” Spike then poured the contents out onto the ponies below, drenching them in what was now known as simply water infused with onion juice to make it smell bad. Spike evilly chuckled, but then stopped as he then heard crying of what sounded like a group of foals. Fearing for the worst, he slowly peered out from the rooftop, only to find none other than Pipsqueak, Pina Colada, Nix, and a few other foals in the group. Pipsqueak then cried out; “my pirate costume is ruined… !” And then began to bawl his eyes out, which luckily didn’t seem to sting his eyes as what was poured on Pipsqueak was not white onion, but green onions instead; (the non-stingy type of course).
Now knowing what he’s done, Spike shouted; “run!” and fled the scene. The other guys followed suit, and began to chase after Spike whilst enraged that Spike has just done that.
Few hours later…
“Wow what a night!” Twilight said as she’s carrying a big bag of candy. Back then Twilight did have a bucket… . But considering the fact that she got a lot more candy than she expected, it overflowed, and so Twilight had to make a quick trip back home to get a bag for the next trips, and then left the basket that’s already filled with candy at home so she’ll be able to snack on it later.
Twilight is now at the square, looking around, and seeing all of the nice decorations of the night. Problem with the decorations though is that they’re too… old. And by old, it meant repetitive… .
“Hmm… . Really sure hope Mare Mare gets new ideas for decorations next year… . Maybe I can help her… .” Twilight was busy thinking this through, failing to realize that her niece and former foal sitter were right behind her… . Both of them with an idea that Twilight would hate. Scaring her!
“Ready honey?” Cadence said as she’s gesturing her daughter to quiet down a bit so they won’t get caught. Unable to contain her excitement, Flurry Heart started bouncing up and down with joy, and then paused to nod in affirmation. “Good… “ Cadence replied. “Let’s do this!”
Flurry Heart started to get low to the ground, and began moving so she’ll be able to sneak behind her aunt so she wouldn’t notice. Meanwhile, Cadence hid behind a decorated barrel, keeping an eye out in case Twilight were to find out, and also for Flurry’s safety too, in case she gets foalnapped.
“Dis is gonna be fun!” Flurry Heart said to herself, whilst keeping her volume down to a minimum. “Auntie wiww never know wa hit her!” Just then, Twilight began to move, and Flurry Heart gave chase. Seeing this, Cadence unhid, and followed close behind so she’ll be able to catch up.
Meanwhile, back at Twilight’s castle… .
“Woah that was bad… .” Spike said as he and the guys were all covered in various injuries and bruises… . “Eeyup! Never doing that again… .” Big Mac replied back. “You’ve said it!” Shining Armor replied back. “I’m never doing that again… . Ever… !” After that, all of the guys went to their respectful guest rooms to sleep off their injuries for the night.
At the front door of Twilight’s castle… .
“What a night!” Twilight said to herself again. “I can’t wait for next year!” Twilight then used her magic to levitate her key to open the door, and stepped inside before closing the door and locking it. Now usually she wouldn’t have a lock to begin with… . But ever since the changeling invasion that had all of her friends and family kidnapped by Queen Chrysalis and her changelings, she decided to make some changes… . And those changes will come in handy soon. As Twilight is about to find out the hard way… .
“Ready Flurry?” Cadence said while looking down at her daughter. “Weady!” Flurry responded. With that, Cadence started to look determined, and then looks at the front door before getting out of the bushes. “Let’s do this… .”
knock knock knock
“Huh… ? Who could that be?” Twilight said while pausing from rummaging through her candy. “I better go see if it’s another trick or treater… . It’s almost time for it to end after all!” With that, Twilight then grabbed the bowl that’s for visiting trick or treaters, and then went to the front door to answer it.
one minute later…
“If this is a trick, then it’s not funny! Cut it out!” Twilight said, now infuriated. Twilight has dealt with trickers before… . So she’s definitely not having it this year.
Still not getting a response, Twilight got even angrier, and stormed to the front door to open it before stating loudly; “if I have to deal with one more prankster on this night! Then you’re gonna get it!” After that, Twilight slammed the door shut; unaware that whoever knocked on the door had already entered her castle, and is already planning on doing something to her that’ll definitely make her be scared silly… . So to speak.
“Boo!” Both Cadence and Flurry Heart shouted once Twilight got in range of them since they were hiding behind something while she was unaware… .
“Gyah!” Twilight shouted in response. “What’re you doing in here… ?! I thought… !” But before Twilight could finish, she then saw that her niece and former foal sitter were in the castle with her; having thought that it was some random stranger or something… .
After calming down a bit, Twilight said whilst sounding like she’s out of breath; “wow… . I did not expect that… . Good one!” Flurry Heart giggled, then babbles excitedly before toddling her way to her aunt, and giving her a hug. Twilight chuckles, and then hugs her niece back before looking at her former foalsitter, and then joked; “wow that was terrifying… “ before laughing.
Flurry Heart paused hugging because of that look she got. Knowing what it is, Flurry made a face like as if she’s holding in something, and started bouncing whilst still holding onto her aunt’s leg while also looking up at her.
Realizing what that meant, Cadence shouted in response, “oh no!” and then scooped up her daughter before taking Flurry Heart to Twilight’s bathroom. Twilight chuckled with a shake of her head, and then looked at the clock before thinking to herself; “I think it’s time I get a small sugar rush… .” She then giggled and went to snack on some savory treats.
