As the sun was rising, the sky was crystal clear, the rivers and seas were fresh and clean with the sun’s reflection, the grass was green and everything else was very peaceful with all that nature. ‘See this? This is the island where I’m from.’ Somewhere on that island, a small and young blue hedgehog named Sonic was running and zipping throughout all the terrains and land of his island. He ran across the field at the speed of sound, ran over a bridge before it collapsed into huge boulders, and even ran through a loop-de-loop and until he got to the other side of the island from a huge ramp launching him towards the sky. ‘It had everything. Sandy beaches, cascading waterfalls, public access to loop-de-loops. And I never had to catch a school bus because I could run across the entire island in less than two seconds.’ Also, there was no school. I know, pretty sweet island, right? Sonic then curled into a ball and sped across across a few caverns before heading towards a ramp and shot up into the air. “Yeah!” Sonic then landed back on the ground and continued zipping through the island. ‘I was born with extraordinary powers and was told to keep them secret.’ And like any kid, I did the exact opposite. The little hedgehog ran up some bridges to a small house. He then curled into a ball, rolled into the house, jumped up, and playfully bumped Longclaw while she was sleeping, causing her to wake up startled. Longclaw was an anthropomorphic owl, albeit notably more realistic in appearance than any of the other anthropomorphic animals from Mobius. She possessed purple-brown feathers on most of her body, while her face was covered in white feathers, with light brown feathers extending from her nose ridge and over her eyes, forming eyebrows. She also possessed blue eyes and a short and curved black beak. Additionally, she had two light brown and black-striped feathers coming out from behind her ear-tufts that are reminiscent of a great horned owl, and large mottled brown wings. Longclaw had small dexterous digits on her wrist joints, which were separate from her primary feathers, not unlike the forelimbs of a small, feathered dinosaur. For attire, Longclaw wore golden armor with notable details engraved on it that covered the front of her torso and was held in place by a collar around her neck and brown straps on her lower abdomen. ‘That’s Longclaw. She took care of me.’ Sonic then landed on the ground, now out of ball form, and he was now laughing happily from his little prank. ’She was basically Obi-Wan Kenobi, if Obi-Wan Kenobi had a beak and ate mice.’ “Sonic, how many times do I have to tell you?” The owl scolded with a concerned expression. “You can’t keep running around outside! Someone could have seen you!” The little youngster scoffed, “No one saw me. I’m too fast! And, I wanted to bring you this.” Sonic pulled out a small sunflower he picked from outside, which made Longclaw happy. Longclaw sighed and shook her head with her playful smile, “What am I going to do with you?” However, before she could reach over towards the flowers grab it from Sonic’s hand, Longclaw suddenly noticed a tribe of echidnas in the trees, aiming their weapons at the duo. She then slammed the door shut and grabbed Sonic to protect him. “Get down!” The echidnas fired their arrows from their bows and they hit almost every corner of Longclaw’s house, with one arrow breaking the window, barely missing Longclaw, and passing through Sonic’s flower, pinning it to the wood floor. ‘Turns out, with great power comes great power-hungry bad guys. And I led them right to us.’ She looked up just as more of these echidna warriors climbed through the windows as they prepared to attack, loaded with their weapons consisting bows and arrows, a few spears, and holding a few nets, intending to either capture or even eliminate the young hedgehog she’s been sworn by her tribe with protecting and nursing the young hedgehog. Determined to not let anything happen to the young hedgehog, Longclaw quickly flew through the back window and took off into the sky with Sonic safely in one of her talons as the echidnas continue firing arrows at them. Eventually, Pachacamac fired his arrow and it struck Longclaw, knocking her and Sonic, safely in her wings for protection and held against her chest, out of the sky and sending them plummeting to the ground. A wounded Longclaw got up and placed a very concerned Sonic on his feet as he looked up at her. “Listen carefully, Sonic,” Longclaw instructed. “You have a power unlike anything I have ever seen. And that means someone will always want it. The only way to stay safe is to stay hidden.” Longclaw took a ring from her satchel and tossed it, which opened a portal to a forest on another planet at night. “This world is on the far side of the universe. You should be safe there.” Sonic was now concerned that he might never see Longclaw again, “I don’t want to go without you!” He then hugged her, before Longclaw comforted him. “You must,” Longclaw insisted, before she handed Sonic her satchel of Rings. “And take this with you. These Rings will be your most important possession. Don’t ever lose them.” Longclaw gasped as she heard the echidna tribe getting closer, then she looked back down at Sonic. “If you're ever discovered, use one.” She then pushed Sonic closer to the portal with her wing. “And whatever you do, never stop running. Now, go!” Sonic ran through the portal before he looked back, horrified, as Longclaw prepared for attack. “Longclaw!” He started running back, as Longclaw looked back at Sonic one last time as the echidnas got even closer. “Goodbye, Sonic.” “No!” Before Sonic can get back to Longclaw, the portal disappears into gold dust. “No!!” Sonic now realized that he was by himself and must do what Longclaw instructed.
