> The Friendship Games: Amber Shine > by PonyyCode > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > The new girl in town > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sunset Shimmer had just finished telling her friends about what she saw earlier this morning. She told them everything that had happened including the strange hooded figure who ran away from her. "She was definitley up to something," Sunset said. "I mean why else would she be snooping around the portal?" "You don't think she was up to anything evil do you?" A girl with pink hair and pale skin, Fluttershy asked. "Well wether for evil intentions or not. She definitley wasn't there to stand around." Sunset said. "I would have gotten a good look at her but she ran away before I could see." "Do you think she came through the portal from Equestria?" Fluttershy asked. "No, no I'm pretty sure I would have noticed that. I think she's from over here." Sunset said. Well that's a relief. The last thing we need is another one of those villains hellbent on world domination." The farm girl, AppleJack commented winking at Sunset. Sunset smirked as she turned her attention towards the tomboyish rainbow haired girl, Rainbow Dash. "Well I think I know who it is. No I know who it might be!" "Who might it be, Rainbow?" Rarity asked. "Was it a nighttime gardener?!" the party girl Pinkie asked. "No. It wasn't." Rainbow said. "Now seeing as they got off a bus from the city and headed on a bus too the city I can guess they go to Crystal Prep!" The other girls nodded in agreement. Sunset was visibly confused. "Oh you've never heard of Crystal Prep before," Rarity realized. "They're our biggest rivals. Especially during this time with the Friendship Games." "The Friendship Games?" Sunset wondered. "It's an academic and sporting event that we compete in against our rival school, Crystal Prep." Fluttershy explained. "We've never won once against them," Rarity said sadly. "I bet that hooded figure was one of those ill-minded students about to deface the wondercolt statue again!" "They would take a bus all the way from the city for that?" Sunset asked. All the girls nodded. "They would have done so if you weren't there." AppleJack said. "I guess but why are they our biggest rivals? Aren't these 'Friendship Games' supposed to be our two schools getting along?" "Well it's kinda hard to get along with someone who beats you at everything." AJ said flatly. Not once had we won against them." "Our school has never won not even once?" Sunset asked. AJ shook her head. "Crystal Prep has won every Friendship Game. We have never won against them. Not even close and no other school has won against them either." Pinkie's eyes went wide as she realized something. "Wait! But isn't there.." "There is one school though," AJ quickly said. "which is..." "Cloudsdale High," Rainbow finished for her. "Basically they make Crystal Prep look like our school when they compete against eachother." "So they're better than Crystal Prep," Sunset said. "Mhm. By a long shot," Rarity replied. "Crystal Prep has won about 22 Friendship games and Cloudsdale High has won about 23." "I mean that's only one more. It's not that big of a deal," Sunset pointed out. "In the District," Rarity said. "They won 23 in just the District, and 15 in the State." "And they're considered the best in our region!" Pinkie chimed in. "You know that means multiple states!" "I'm sure Sunset knows what region means, Pinkie." Rainbow chuckled. "But yeah, that's basically Cloudsdale." "Wow, that is really impressive," Sunset said a bit surprised. "But how do you know all that?" "There's a news article in our school about the Friendship Games. It keeps us up to date on what's going on with the events and who's competeting against who," Rainbow explained. "So far it's only Cloudsdale who beat every school and that includes Crystal Prep." "But despite the obvious, those awful students at CPA still gloat that they're the best!" Rarity scoffed. "Even though every evidence that they're not is in front of them." "Have we ever played against them before?" Sunset asked. "The only way that would happen is if we beat Crystal Prep and move on up, but obviously that hasn't happened yet." "Nor will it ever," Fluttershy said quietly. "If they can easily step on Crystal Prep, imagine how it would be if we tried to compete against them." "Probably terrible." Sunset guessed. "Maybe but from what I heard, even though they're infintley times better than our rival school they're not like that stuck up school who think's they're better than everyone else." Rainbow said. "Sunset Shimmer?" Sunset jumped a little and turned around. Vice Principal Luna had approached her which took the latter a bit by surprise. "Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you, but I was wondering if you would like to show our new student a tour of our school," VP Luna said. "She just moved here from Cloudsdale High." "CLOUDSDALE?!" All the girls except Sunset said in surprise. "You mean THE CLOUDSDALE?!" Rainbow gasped as she could hardly believe her ears. VP Luna couldn't help but smile. "Yes Rainbow. I think we all heard about Cloudsdale High and I believe she might be one of the best region competitors in the Friendship Games. Maybe this is the miracle we need to win." "Of course I can show her," Sunset smiled. "Where is she?" "She's currently in the office right now getting her schedule and perhaps she'll be pleased to meet all of you." "Alright, I'll meet her there." Sunset waved to her friends. "I'll be right back." Her friends waved back as Sunset left the Library. ===========================================****===================================================== The door to the office opened and inside was the new student. A teen girl with brown hair, and light gray skin. She wore a pink jacket which had gold patterns along the waist and a pair of light blue jeans and athletic tennis shoes. She smiled at Sunset as soon as she saw her. "Hi! You must be the new girl here!" Sunset said joyfully. "I'm Sunset Shimmer and it's very nice to meet you." Sunset and the new girl shook hands as the new girl introduced herself. "You as well. I'm Amber Shine and I guess Vice Principal Luna told you a little about me already." She chuckled." "She did and my friends are all very excited to meet you. Hey about about you come meet them before I give you a tour?" Sunset suggested. Amber shrugged. "I don't see why not, lead the way!" Amber grabbed her new schedule on the way out as she and Sunset left the Office and made their way to the library. When they approached the other girls, they all immediatley gathered around her. "Well howdy there, partner! You must be the new girl!" AJ said happily. "Yep, that's me. Name's Amber Shine by the way." "Well It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm AppleJack by the way or you can just call me AJ." Rainbow was next as the girls continued to introduce themselves. "Name's Rainbow Dash! The absoloute best athlete in this school!" She said pridefully. "Rainbow, darling please do be humble. Don't forget who you're introducing yourself to." Rarity reminded her. She turned to Amber. "Sorry about that, she can be a little boastful but she's a really good friend. I'm Rarity by the way and I must say that jacket your wearing looks absolutley marvelous! I must know where you got it from." "Thanks. I actually didn't buy it. It was gift from the Cloudsdale High team after winning the Friendship Games All Region." "Wow, and we can't even beat Crystal Prep," Rainbow said in awe. Pinkie was up next to introduce herself. "Hi there! I'm Pinkie Pie. It's so exciting to meet you. I just know we're going to be really really good friends!" Amber smiled kindly at the party girl. "It's great to meet you too, Pinkie. I sure hope I can make as much friends as I did back in Cloudsdale. No doubt everyone's going to miss me there." Last but not least was Fluttershy. "I'm Fluttershy and it's an honor to meet you." She said kindly. "You as well, Fluttershy. Now I'm sure all of you heard a little about me." "uhhh yeah!" Rainbow said. "You're one of the best competetiors in the Friendship Games! In the entire region!" "Indeed, you and your school's talents are just on another level," Rarity added. "And to think you easily humiliate our rival school Crystal Prep so easily and we can't even win against them." "Crystal Prep? You mean that school who thinks they're the best even though we beat them every Friendship Games?" Amber scoffed. "Please the only thing they're better at than us is having a higher ego." "Well I'm sure they're going to be eager to meet you. We're facing off against them...unfortunatley." Rainbow muttered. She then realized something. "Hey how about you compete with us? The games are starting tomorrow!" "Oh I would love to but I think it's too late!" Amber said sadly. "They probably already picked their votes on who's going to compete." "But you're from Cloudsdale! Just go ask Principal Celestia. Considering your background, she HAS to make an exception. There's no way she wouldn't let you compete!" Rainbow urged. "Alright, alright I'll go ask but I can't make any promises." The girls cheered and Sunset beamed. "Come on, Amber. After I show you around, we can go ask if there can be an exception made." Sunset and Amber waved by to the other girls as the two continued on with the tour. > School Tour > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "And over here is the Library," Susnset says gesturing towards the double doors. "It's perhaps the largest room in the school so it's impossible to miss." "It's really huge," Amber commented as they went inside. She looked around. "Cloudsdale's cafeteria was only half this size. "Although the food there was decent." "Well I'm sure you'll like it here too. It's no cuisine but it's not terrible either." Sunset said. Next up was the gymnasium. "This is where we hold all our basketball games and tournaments. It's also where we're going to meet with Crystal Prep tommorrow. There coming over to our school." A smirk formed on Amber's face. "Ah I see. I can't wait to see there faces when see meet me." "They must really have it out for you, huh?" Sunset guessed. "Mhm. You know how they don't like to lose. Their ego is higher than Mount Everest so it's really funny when my school just comes in and puts them in their place." After Sunset showed Amber the other classrooms and hallways they decided to go ask Principal Celestia if Amber could compete. As they were walking down they accidentally bumped into two teenage girls. One was light blue skinned and had light blue and white hair. She wore a pink skirt with a matching tanktop and purple shoes. The other was cream skinned with dark magenta and pink hair. She wore white skirt and tanktop with matching shoes. They ran up to Amber and there was no doubt they were excited to meet her. "Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry," said the blue-skinned one. "We weren't looking where we were going." "That's alright," Sunset said kindly. The blue skinned girl noticed Amber. "Hey, I don't think I've seen you before! Well it's nice to meet you. I'm Lyra Heartstrings and this is my friend Bon-Bon." Amber shook hands with Lyra and Bon-Bon. "It's nice to meet you both. I'm Amber Shine. Today's my first day and I just moved here from Cloudsdale High." Bon-Bon and Lyra's jaws dropped as soon as they heard the last two words." "Cloudsdale High?!" they exclaimed together. Amber giggled. "It seems you two know alot about Cloudsdale." "Uhhh hello? Almost all of us heard about it! that school completley anihalated Crystal Prep when they compete against them during the Friendship Games!" Bon Bon exclaimed. "Wait have you compete in them before?" "I have, indeed." "Well you must be like godess-tier or something." "Aww it's no big deal, though I do find it funny seeing Crystal Prep's reaction when they lose and to think they still gloat they're the 'best'" "Are you going to compete with us? That would be so amazing!" Bon Bon asked hopefully. Me and Lyra are in and so are a few other students but we could really use someone like you on our team." "That's actually what I was trying to do. I was going to ask Principal Celestia if she could make an exception and let me compete since the votings are over." "Well I bet she will especially if you tell her who you are." Lyra said. "Well it was nice meeting you, Amber and good seeing you too, Sunset. bye-bye!" Sunset and Amber waved bye and made their way to the office. When they went inside they saw Principal Celestia at the front desk. She smiled at them. "Hello, Sunset. Have you finished giving the tour?" "I did and we were also wondering if we could ask you something." "Oh and what would that be?" Celestia asked as she shuffled through her paperwork. "Well we were hoping if there was any way I could compete in the Friendship Games. I know that would make a lot of us happy and I mean a lot." Amber laughed slightly. "Hmmm. As much as I would like for that to happen, I think me and Vice Principal Luna should talk it over. We did already counted the votes but I'll see what we can do." VP Luna just happened to come inside the office and noticed Sunset and Amber inside. "Oh you're back already. I see Sunset has shown you everything?" Amber nodded. "We were just asking if there was a way I could participate in the Friendship Games. I know it would make a bunch of us here happy." "Hmmm. If you girls would give us a moment and just wait outside while me and my sister discuss about it." VP Luna suggested. Sunset and Amber left the room and closed the door behind them. VP Luna turned to her sister. "I say I'm all for it. As soon as I saw she was from Cloudsdale, I also couldn't believe it!" "I know, sister but don't you think this would be an unfair advantage?" "Unfair? I don't understand what's so unfair about this. If you're talking about our school having one more person on the team than Crystal Prep than we can allow that school to have one more person as well." "I guess so, but I still feel like this is some sort of 'cheating'. "I can't say that it is cheating but I thought you would be happy to go along with it. Wouldn't it be nice to win these games for once so our school can have something good to look back on?" Luna asked. "Yes believe me I do but even then we'd have to replan the whole event because all of our challenges involve having a partner and it would be too much of a hassle to add a fourteenth player." As much as Luna wanted to convince her sister otherwise, she knew there was no other way. The school had already casted their votes and the Friendship Games were starting tommorrow. If nothing happened between now and then, Amber would not be able to participate. Principal Celestia walked up and opened the door. She motioned Sunset and Amber to come inside and told her the unfortunate news. "I'm terribly sorry but I'm afraid we can't let you compete. Don't get us wrong, you're extremely talented but it would be a hassle trying to fit you in." Amber smiled. Although she was a little dissapointed, she should have known it was too late. "Well thank you, anyways. I-" *knock knock* "Come in," Principal Celestia calls out. The door opens and a boy with light green hair with dreadlocks, red-t-shirt, blue jeans and brown shoes walked in. "Hey Principal, I got some bad news. I think I'm coming down with something so I might have to drop out of the Friendship Games. Been having this headache and I just talked with the nurse. She says I might have to stay home." Amber's heart almost skipped a beat. She could not believe her luck. That is if she could now participate. The boy now noticed Amber. "Woah! Didn't see you there! Wait a minute are you Amber?! Lyra and BonBon were just talking about you. They say you're like a beast in the Games! Oh I'm Sandalwood if you didn't know." Amber giggled. "Thank you, and yes I am Amber. And it's nothing really. I'm sure there's someone here who just's as good as me." Sunset couldn't help but admire how humble Amber was. Though she was definitley above both Crystal Prep and Canterlot High, she didn't act like a stuck-up snob who thought she was better than everyone else. "Nah, the best one we got is probably Rainbow Dash, I'm sure you've met her already. But even you could beat her." "Well you never know," Amber smiled. "And you're probably talented too because you were voted into the games." "That's probably because I'm an ace in Chemistry which is one of the first rounds. Hey maybe you can take my spot!" He turned to Principal Celestia. "Would that be possible, Principal?" Celestia and her sister looked at one another before Luna gave a nod. Celestia folded her hands together. "I see no reason not to so yes she can join." "Great! Alright best of luck to you, Amber and nice seeing you, Sunset." "Thank you, and hope you feel better soon." Amber replied. Sunset and Amber left the office after Sandalwood. They immediatley went to the Library to tell the other girls the great news. When they did, Rainbow's face lit up with joy. "That's what I'm talking about!" she almost shouts as she just realized she was still in the Library. She lowered her voice. "This is going to be so awesome!" Pinkie ran up and wrapped her in a hug. "Ooooh this is going to be so fun! *gasp* Everyone will just go crazy knowing your going to be in the games!" "Indeed, no doubt they're going to be cheering your name," Rarity agreed. "Well Crystal Prep sure ain't gonna be happy," AJ chuckled. "With you on our team, they can kiss their winning streak against us good-bye." Amber nodded. "I have a good feeling. It's time to change this school's record for good. > Sci-Twi > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- A teenage girl walked through the hallways carrying her books. She was purple-skinned and had dark purple hair with a magenta streak. She donned a patterned purple skirt, a vest, a white collard shirt underneath, a tie, long blue socks, and royal blue shoes with diamonds on the buckle. The hallways were rarely empty, considering she had bumped into multiple people along her way. "Hey! Watch it! "I'm walking here!" "Sorry...sorry" She quickly said as she picked up the pace. Still holding her books close to her chest, she arrived at her dorm room and went inside. Inside was a bunch of science equipment complete with test tubes, posters, a work desk, and a trashcan full of papers. On the wall of the work desk, are pictures of Canterlot High that all seemed to be connecting to the Wondercolt's statue in the front. Also in the room is a purple and green puppy with a purple spiked collared around his neck. He excitedly wagged his tail and ran over to his owner in excitement. "Arf!" He barked. The girl giggled as she sat down at her work desk and he jumped on her lap. "Did you miss me, Spike?" She asked playfully as she petted the top of his head. He barked playfully as he spun around. "Calm down, Spike! You're acting like you haven't seen me all week!" She laughed as Spike hopped off her lap and continued to wag his tail. "Guess what, Spike? I was able to get a reading off of Canterlot High!" She squealed holding a circular magic device in her hands. Spike growled in response upon hearing Canterlot High which the girl sighed. "I know I know I don't like it there either but I just couldn't help it!" Spike looked at her with a confused tilt of his head. A knocking sound came from the door and a young woman opened it. She had long purple, dark purple, and yellow-streaked hair with a light pink skin tone. She wore an aqua blue skirt with a formal blue blazer and a crystal heart emblem on the front and golden heels. It was the Dean of Crystal Prep: Dean Cadence. "Twilight, you know the rules against having pets on school grounds," she said giving her a stern look. Twilight laughed nervously and held up Spike. "But Spike isn't a pet, Dean Cadence. He's the main focus of my research: Human Canine cohabitation." She said patting Spike on the head. "If you say so, but I suggest you get changed. Principal Cinch is highly allergic and she's waiting for you in her office." Cadence said picking a piece of Spike's fur off of Twilight's shirt. "Oooh is it about my application into the Everton Independent study program?!" Twilight asked enthusiastically. Cadence let out a sigh and tried to put on a small smile. "That's what I was meaning to talk to you about...Are you sure you want to take those classes? There's hardly anyone in the same class as you're taking," She gave a slight frown. "It's like you'll be doing everything by yourself." "Well I mean it's not called an Independent Study Program for nothing, right?" Twilight chuckled. "But this is exactly what I want! To be able to focus on my career and future!" "If that's what you want, I can't stop you," Cadence said. "I just don't want you to miss out on anything, and being around other people can teach you a few life lessons along the way." She turned to leave but not before asking, "See you in Principal Cinch's office?" "I'll be there," Twilight said. Cadence closed the door leaving Twilight and Spike by herself. Twilight knelt down as Spike hopped on her lap. "I don't know why she's worried, Spike. It's not like I'm going to need any friends," her dog hopped off her lap as Twilight started to make her way towards the Principal's office. "I'll be back Spike." She closed the door behind her. *Canterlot High* It did not take long for word to get around about Amber just moving in. Not only that, but is actually competing in them as well. If that wasn't surprising to anyone then it was the fact that she was one of the Regional best took almost everyone by surprise "What?! The Great and Powerful T-r-r-r-r-rixie does not believe such lie!" Trixie says in surprise. "It's true. Believe it or not. You're looking at the girl who beats our rival's asses like it's sunday breakfast." Raibow smirked. "Isn't the proper saying like 'A stroll in the park'? Sunset pointed out. Rainbow rolled her eyes. "Whatever, but yeah Trixie. If there's one thing Crystal Prep can't do, is beat the school that she came from." "So Cloudsdale has like never lost before?" Trixie asked Amber. "Let me tell you something, Trixie, my grandpa also went to the same school and competed in the Friendship Games when he was my age. He tells me that even back then, Crystal Prep didn't even win once. Oh and our most recent win against that school? They trained for over 2 months and we only had 2 days to train and we still whooped their sorry asses 3-0," Amber said with a smug. "So yeah, you could say Cloudsdale's never lost before." "Wow...." Trixie said her eyes blinking in surprise. "Woah, are you Amber!" asked a boy who had just approached them. He wore a yellow shirt with green cuffs, grey jeans, and dark blue shoes. He also had on a pair of glasses and on his shirt was the symbol strucutre of an atom. "Oh sorry I probably should introduce myself. *ahem*. Name's Microchips. I just heard about someone with unmatched talent going to compete in the Friendship Games. Are you really Amber shine?" "Yes, that is me. And nice to meet you, Microchips." Amber smiled kindly as she looked at him. "I assume you're also competing?" "Oh yeah, and when I heard you were going to be on the team, I just got really excited. You know I'm sick of Crystal Prep always beating us. Well I guess I'll see you in the games I guess." Micro Chips waved bye. "Alright, cya there." "You know, Crystal Prep doesn't even seem big and bad when you talk about them." "They're really not. It's just their 'rich' they think they're above everyone else." Amber explained. "They have money, the expensive uniforms, but they're extremely overrated when it comes to the actual games. They had only won in the district, but regionals? They don't even stand a chance." > Principal Cinch's blackmail/CHS Rally > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Twilight opened the door to the Cinch's office and right when she stepped in, the cold and not so friendly voice of Principal Cinch greeted her. A woman with purple hair, and white skin sat at her desk shuffling a pile of paperwork. She wore a blue suit with dark blue slacks. "Oh good, you're here Twilight. I was wondering if you were going to show up." Twilight looked around the room and noticed her older brother Shining Armor was there, along with Cadence. "Shining? What are you doing here?" "As your brother is an alumni, Principal Cinch thought it would provide some great insight." Cadence explained. "Insight on what?" Twilight asked. "Why the Friendship Games of course," Cinch said codly. "In case you've been living under a rock, Twilight you know the importance of our reputation. Shining Armor, you competed in the games, did you not?" "I did," Shining said with a smirk. " "And you happen to recall who won?" "Crystal Prep, we always win." "Uh actually I thought Cloudsdale-" Twilight began to point out but was cut off by Cinch. "That name absolutley sickens me when I hear it! They might have handed our behinds to us but I'm not going to give up just yet. That school's the only ones keeping us from reaching regionals." Twilight decided best not to push on the subject any further and instead asked, "So why did you want to see me?" "Well you see, Twilight. Looking at your performance, I just can't help but wonder why you wouldn't want to compete in the Friendship Games. With you're genius intellect, you would be a valuable asset." "Look Twily, I know competing's not really your thing, but with your contribution, it could really move us up to the next phase," Shining told his sister. "And it seems like Canterlot High has been going under some kind of Renaissance. Test scores are up, grades and even athletics. You see they are developing some sort of reputation. This...cannot happen!" Cinch said firmly. "Principal Cinch, I can't possibly participate in the games, I just won't have time!" Twilight said getting nervous. "Ahh yes, your work. Cadence, could you and shining armor fetch me my contact sheet forthe Everton Independent Study program?" "Of course," Cadence replies as she and Shining left the office leaving just Twilight and Cinch. "See, Twilight. One of the advantages of having a reputation is having a certain amount of influence. I can use it to make sure your program gets improved..." Cinch began to say before her tone started to get more cold. "Or I can have it denied. What do you say?" Canterlot High Everyone had gathered in the gymnasium for the Friendship Games Pep Rally. Amber sat next to Sunset and her friends in the middle section of the bleachers. At least almost all of them, she noticed Rainbow was missing. "Hey where's Rainbow at?" "Oh she said she was gonna do something for the rally. Something about motivating us all," Sunset said. "Well whatever she's doing, we're going to need a lot of motivation." Rarity commented. Amber was about to say something when a freshmen girl ran up to her. "OMG ARE YOU THAT PRODIGY?!" One of them asked with enthusiasm. She had streaked pink and purple hair and wore a short sleeved red light red jacket with a stripped purple and white undershirt. She also donned a yellow skirt with shoes that matched her jacket. "My friends were just talking about you, are you really one of the best in the region?! How are you so good? What-" "Calm down, darling. One question at a time," Rarity giggled. She looked at Amber. "Sorry about that. this is my little sister, Sweetie Belle. It's quite obvious she's excited to meet you." "It's all good. And I don't blame her." She smiled kindly at Sweetie. "Nice to meet you. Name's Amber and to answer your first question. "Yes, you can say I am one of the best in region. And to your second question, you'll just have to wait for later." "Awww ok," Sweetie Belle said. "But it's still nice to meet you, I know you're going to do awesome in the games!" She went back to her friends as Pinkie gently nudged Amber with her elbow. "Looks like someone has a fan," Pinkie smirked. "Wouldn't be the first time. At Cloudsdale, almost everyone knew me. Even those who weren't really the extrovert type." The sound of a mic test came on as Principal Celestia came up on the stage. "Good afternoon students. As you all know, tomorrow we will face our rival Crystal Prep Academy in the Friendship Games as we join together in the spirit of excellence, sportsmanship, and fidelity!" Usually the students would give an unenthusiastic applause but with the elephant in the room, there were chattering among eachother. "I think we could win this year!" "Yeah, this year we have to win!" "We got a beast in our team! There's no way we're going to lose tomorrow!" Principal Celetia cleared her throat. "Now as you all know by now, our newest student might just be the key we need to finally win. Amber Shine would you please stand up?" Everyone turned their attention to Amber as she stood up from the bleachers. "When I heard that one of the best regional competetiors was moving in our school, I was quite shocked." Celestia admitted. "But the achievements this young lady accomplished is aboslutley phenomal, including winning the Friendship Games district, state, and region!" Amber blushed as Principal Celestia listed her accomplishments. "There is no doubt she will be a key player on our team." Principal Celestia paused for a moment. The students cheered wildly until she signaled them to quiet down. "Now I have asked Rainbow Dash to come up here and give you all a little motivation." Rainbow stepped up to the stage and grabbed the microphone. "Thank you, Principal Celestia." She said. She turned to the crowd of students and asked them, "Who are we?!" "Wondercolts!" came the student's replied. Rainbow shook her head. "Come on, scream like you have lungs! WHO ARE WE?!" "WONDERCOLTS!" The students hollered. "ONE MORE TIME WHO ARE WE?!" "WE ARE WONDERCOLTS!" Rainbow smirked as the Marching Band began to play. Rainbow Dash: Crystal Prep students are super athletic, super smart, and super motivated. But there's one thing they aren't. They aren't Wondercolts! We've fought magic more than once And come out on top [Chorus] Oh, oh [Rainbow Dash] There's other schools, but none can make those claims [Chorus] Na, na-na-na-na, oh [Rainbow Dash] Together we are Canterlot Come and cheer our name [Chorus] Oh, oh [Rainbow Dash] This will be our year to win these games [Rainbow Dash and chorus] We'll always be Wondercolts forever And now our time has finally arrived 'Cause we believe in the magic of friendship And you know, at the end of the day, it is we who survive [instrumental break] [Students] Hey! [Rainbow Dash] And we'll never bow [Chorus] Oh, oh [Students] Hey, hey! [Rainbow Dash] So get ready to see us in first place [All] We'll always be Wondercolts forever (Three! Two! One! Go!) And now our time has finally arrived (Our time is now!) 'Cause we believe in the magic of friendship And you know, at the end of the day, it is we who survive At the end of the day, it is we who survive Na, na, na-na-na-na Wondercolts united together Na, na, na-na-na-na Wondercolts united forever Na, na, na-na-na-na Wondercolts united together Na, na, na-na-na-na Wondercolts united forever Na, na, na-na-na-na Wondercolts united together [Rainbow Dash] We'll always be Wondercolts forever And now our time has finally arrived 'Cause we believe in the magic of friendship And you know... At the end of the day, it is we who survive At the end of the day, it is we who survive! The students cheered even louder than before. Rainbow beamed as she asked the students, "ARE WE GONNA LET CRYSTAL PREP TAKE OUR WIN?!" "NO!" "That's right! They may have stomped on us before, but we're not the same school anymore! Tomorrow, they're going to learn not to mess with the wondercolts! It's time we finally win these games!" The students cheered throughout the gym. So loud that if anyone was in the library, which was all the way across the other end of the hallway, they could hear the loud noise. Once the students cleared out of the gym, Amber met with Rainbow and the girls behind the curtains. The latter had a confident smile on her face as Fluttershy was the first to speak. "Rainbow Dash! That was amazing! Even I feel like we could win!" "I feel like my school spirit is at an all-time high!" Rarity squealed. "That was...incredible!" Amber said. "And how did you...transform?" "It's something that comes naturally. Probably because I'm so awesome!" Rainbow declared. "Maybe, I mean you are awesome, but there's gotta be more to it than that." Sunset replied. "Well whatever it is, we'd like you to keep magic out of the games as much as possible. We don't want to cause anything that would make us forfeit the games." VP Luna said as she came up. "Sunset Shimmer, you came here from another world filled with magic. Perhaps you could get to the bottom of our magically development." "I'll do my best," Sunset said confidently. After VP Luna walked away, Rainbow turned to her friends. "Any idea what events we're gonna play?" "Who knows. It could be anything," Fluttershy implied. "Anything?!" Pinkie gasped. "You mean it can even be a pie eating contest?!" "Maybe, we would never know until it happens," Amber giggled. "How will I ever find the right outfit to go with our events?" Rarity wondered. "I would really love to help but I really gotta figure out why Rainbow ponied up while playing her guitar. I'll see you guys later!" Sunset said as she left. "She's got everything under control. Nothing to worry about!" Pinkie reassured. "It would be a dream come true when we finally beat that awful school for once!" Rarity said with hope. "Yeah," Amber agreed. "I wish someone would show them their place. Oh wait- I already did!" She smirked. The girls laughed as Amber continued. "And I qoute from one of them *ahem*, 'Watch us humiliate you so bad, you're gonna forfeit!'. That same day, they got demolished so bad I'm sure they're still trying to live it down. Trust me, once they see me tomorrow, I can assure they won't be laughing anytime soon." > Crystal Prep arrives at Canterlot High > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Twilight had just about finished packing her books for her visit to Canterlot High. She grabbed her uniform shirt and was about to pack it in her bag but Spike was not too keen on letting her leave. He grabbed her shirt with his mouth and growled. "Ugh, come on, Spike. I was always gonna go to Canterlot High for the Friendship Games. The only thing different is now I have to compete. Besides it's not like Principal Cinch gave me much of a choice." She managed to grab her shirt from Spike's grasp as she stuffed it in her backpack. "I know, I don't like it either, I probably won't be able to gather as much data as I hoped...but maybe I can still get some." Spike started to whimper as Twilight picked him up. "Spike! I would never leave without you" She placed him in her backpack and told him, "Just remember to remain quiet, and try not to shed." She zipped her backpack and headed on out to the bus. At the bus stop, Twilight wasn't sure where to go. She asked Dean Cadence where to go. "One second, Twilight," Cadence told her. "You could try the end of the line!" said Sour Sweet. A girl with pink and slightly light blue hair. Just like Twilight (and all the other Crystal Prep students) she also wore the Crystal Prep uniform. "Oh, I'm sorry, what did you say?" Twilight asked trying to sound polite. Sour Sweet put on a 'sweet' smile. "Just that someone as smart as you should definitley go first!" "No I didn't mean to...I was just asking," Twilight said a little worried. "This is the right bus, Twilight," Dean Cadence told her. "But...I didn't mean to cut infront," "Well it's too late now," Sour Sweet grumbled in a not-so-sweet tone. As Twilight went inside the bus, Indigo Zap, another Crystal Prep student asked Twilight," "Are we gonna win?!" "Umm...maybe?" Twilight replied nervously. Indigo Zap shook her head. "Wrong answer! Try again! Are we gonna win?!" "Um I mean CHS I heard is doing really well now a-and with their reputation we can't let them do it...win I mean, right?" Indigo Zap gave her a confused look as Twilight just stood there feeling like an idiot. "You're gonna have to take a seat!" the Bus driver said. Twilight started to make her way down the bus aisle but whenever she saw an empty seat, it was immediatley made unavailable for her as if no one wanted her to sit with her. She managed to find an empty seat next to Lemon Zest who was listening to music through her headphones. Twilight placed her backpack on her lap and opened it. "Well Spike, at least I still got you with me," she whispered. "Dude, you have gotta hear this!" Lemon Zest said suddenly as she placed her headphones over Twilight's ears as the latter was taken surprise by the heavy metal. *Canterlot High* Back in the music room, Rainbow was showing off a few guitar solos. "I hope the Friendship Games have a music competetion because we would totally rock it!" She exclaimed as she strung a chord. "Um, we're supposed to keep magic out of the games, remember?" Sunset reminded her. "Easier said than done, darling," Rarity said. "I'm sure in Equestria magic does whatever you want, but..." "This isn't Equestria," Sunset said sadly. "Well when it comes to magic, I'm sure you'll figure it out," AJ reassured. "And while Sunset works on keeping the magic out, I'll be working on what to bring in!" Rarity giggled. "Rarity, what did you go and do?" AJ asked "Well I had a little time on my hands, and since we don't know what the events are...I made a few options for uniforms!" Rarity immediatley put one on Rainbow Dash. "You really didn't have to do that," Rainbow started to say. "I know," Rarity smiled. "No, you really didn't have to." AJ said with more emphasis on the word 'really'. "I know!" Rarity giggled. "Oh and I made a few outfits for you too, Amber but I understand if you still want to keep your jacket. I know it holds very dear for you." Amber smiled kindly. "Oh, thanks. Maybe I can try on one." She saw a jacket on one of the racks and examined it. It was a dark red jacket, with a black wavy pattern along the sides. "This jacket looks pretty cool." she commented. "Go ahead and try it, darling," Rarity insisted. Amber took off her pink jacket and tried on the red one. She took a good look at herself. "This looks pretty good." "Oh I just knew you would like it!" Rarity said excitledly. When the bus arrived at Canterot High, the students filed out of the bus while Principal Celestia met with Principal Cinch. "Vice Principal Luna can help your students get settled in, while I can give you a tour, Principal Cinch," Celestia told Cinch. "Oh yes, Principal Celestia, that would be fascinating," She said in a somewhat cold tone. Dean Cadence and VP Luna hugged eachother. "Oh it's always a pleasure to meet you, Dean Cadence. Even if you do beat us every time." "Thank you, Vice Principal Luna, but I heard it's not going to be so easy this time around," Dean Cadence said kindly. Twilight was about to make her way off the bus, when she heard someone yell, "Comin, through!" "Ugh!" Twilight gasped as she was pushed to the side and into Sunny Flare. "Seriously?" she asked annoyed. "Oh sorry, I didnt' mean to," she turned to Sour Sweet. "Why don't you go ahead." she suggested. "You are such a sweetie!" Sour Sweet said in her sweet voice then said in her sour tone, "I am watching you!" Twilight made her way inside the Canterlot High and as soon as she stepped foot, everyone seemed to know her. "Hi, Twilight." "Hey, Twilight, what's up?" "Yo, Twilight!" "How you doin, Twilight?" Twilight was starting to get confused wondering how everyone knew her already but she pushed it to the side. Her device around her neck started to vibrate and she started to follow where the signal was taking her. Meanwhile back in the music room, AJ said to Rarity, "These outfits are great and all, but why put so much effort into clothes we're probably not going to wear? You're going to exhaust yourself before the games even start!" "Oh don't be silly, darling! Putting effort into my clothes is what I live for, and spending time with my friends fills me with energy!" Rarity exclaimed joyfully as she began to float in air and started to pony up similar to Rainbow Dash did during the pep rally. The girls, including Amber all had amazed reactions. "And magic too I guess," Sunset said with a small smile. Twilight continued to follow the signal coming from her device until it started to absorb some sort of purple smoke from the music room. She was unknowingly draining the magic from Rarity but of course she didn't know. In the music room, Rarity started to feel exhausted as she slowly descended back down to the floor. "Actually, Applejack, now that you mentioned it, I suppose I could take a tiny break." "Told you," AppleJack said. The door to the music door opened as Twilight stood at the entrance. "Twilight?!" All the girls except Amber said in surprise. Although Amber was a little surprised herself. She knew most of the Crystal Prep Students from past Friendship Games, albeit not in a good way but Twilight didn't seem familiar to her. Nevertheless she smiled at Twilight. "Darling, what are you wearing? It looks so...severe." Rarity said. "It's my uniform for Crystal Prep" Twilight answered. "But why does everyone know who I am?" "Did you just say Crystal Prep?" Rainbow questioned. Spike suddenly popped his head of Twilight's backpack and gave a single bark. "Spike!" Fluttershy and Rarity said together as Fluttershy began to pet the dog on the head. "You know my dog's name too?" Twilight asked in surprise as she turned Spike away from Fluttershy. "You must be one of the Crystal Prep students, is that right?" "I don't think I've seen you in the games before," Amber said to Twilight. "I assume this is your first time competing." "It is...and if I'm being honest, not looking too foward to it. Only reason why I'm competing is because I'm kinda being forced to. Oh and I'm Twilight," "Amber Shine. Nice to meet you, Twilight." Amber smiled. Twilight seemed a bit surprised by that name. "Wait...why does that name sound so familiar?" Rainbow started to hide her smirk as Twilight started to connect two and two together. "Wait...you're not Amber Shine from Cloudsdale High are you?" "Maybe," Amber giggled. "Or maybe I'm just an ordinary girl who just so happens to have the same name as 'Amber Shine'." Oh my gosh! You're like one of the best region competitors out there...M-my school literally loses to yours every time!" Twilight gasped. " My classmates actually talks about you, not in a good way but they do know a lot about you. I-I don't think we're gonna keep our winning streak anymore." "Well whether you win or lose I'm sure you'll do great." Amber said kindly. "I actually gotta go. I'll catch you later at the welcoming party!" She left the room and that's when Principal Celestia happened to be walking by giving a tour to Principal Cinch. When she saw Twilight she gasped. "Twilight?" "This is getting ridiculous." Twilight muttered. "I must apolgize for the curiosity of my prized student," Principal Cinch said to Celestia. "Your student?" "The smart ones are always curious. I'll return her to check in with the other students." Cinch said as she started to usher Twilight along with her to the other Crystal Prep students. As soon as Cinch left Celestia looked at the girls. "I didn't know Twilight had a twin sister." Pinkie started to giggle. "She doesn't! That Twilight is obviously the Twilight from this world since it couldn't possibly be the Twilight from the pony world since the Twilight from the pony world doesn't go to Crystal Prep or wear glasses." Principal Celestia started to say something but decided better not to question Pinkie's knowledge. "Nevermind." she says as she too left. "Principal Cinch, I didn't mean to wonder off, I was just following these strange readings and they led me to those girls." Twilight tried to explain. "Twilight, what you do in your free time is little concern to me, but while you're here, all of Crystal Prep requires your complete focus." Principal Cinch said sternly. "But everyone seems to know who I am," Twililght said. "Perhaps to lure you," "But it didn't seem like anyone was trying to 'lure' me," "Well whatever they're trying to do, it isn't to help us win." As Sunset and her friends were walking down the hallway, Rarity expressed her disbelief of Twilight going to Crystal Prep. "I can't believe our world's Twilight goes to Crystal Prep!" "You're saying Twilight's gonna play against us? She wouldn't." Rainbow remarked. "Our Twilight is a Princess from Equestria and if she was here, we would've already figured out why all this magic is happening during pep rallies and costume changes!" Sunset said with a bit of irritation. The other girls started to flinch. and Sunset's expression softened. "Sorry, I tried to contact Twilight earlier today, but I couldn't get a hold of her." "She's a princess from Equestria. Probably got problems of her own to deal with." AppleJack pointed out. "We certainly can't expect her to drop everything and pop through the portal whenever," Rarity added. "Especially if it's to deal with something as minor as a few random pony-ups." But they aren't minor!" Sunset argued. "Magic came into this world when I stole Twilight's crown. It's taken a lot for me to earn everyone's trust. If we have to forfeit the games because I can't think of a way to keep it under control..." "Oh Sunset...I'm sure you'll figure things out." Fluttershy said. "You're the one who helped us understand what we needed to defeat those sirens, remember?" AppleJack remidned Sunset. "Yeah, but Twilight was the one who really showed us what we needed." "But remember, darling. What we needed to defeat them was you." Rarity pointed out. Sunset gave a small smile and sighed. "Alright." The girls cheered as Rainbow declared, "Come on, guys. Let's go see what the events are and come up with a strategy!" Sunset started to stay behind as Rainbow asked her, "You comin, Sunset?" "I'll catch up with you guys in a bit," Sunset replied. She made her way outside to the front yard and placed her hand on the portal. Still no reply she thought as she placed her hand on the marble base of the wondercolt statue. Maybe there's another way I can reach her. All of a sudden she couldn't move her hand from the portal as she began to feel herself being being drained. Twilight was on the other side and her device started to absorb a red aura coming from the other side of the portal. "Hey let go!" Sunset yelled out. Twilight however could not stop her device from draining the magic from Sunset. They both screamed in fear as Sunset was finally able to let go of the portal. She looked at Twilight in disbelief. "What did you do?!" Twilight was about to answer when Dean Cadence intervened. "Twilight, you have to check in with the other." Twilight quickly left while Sunset put her hand back on the portal but this time, all she felt was cold marble. "Where's the portal?" Sunset asked "The portal isn't here anymore!" Sunset didn't want to believe it, but there was no denying the truth. The portal had been closed. > Welcoming Party and special visitors > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sunset had told her friends what happened as they were making their way to the gymnasium. "What do you mean the portal's gone?" AJ asked. "I mean it's not there anymore. It's gone. It's closed!" Sunset said as she pushed open the entrance doors and walked inside followed by her friends. "I'm not exactly sure how, but I think it might have something to do with that Twilight." she pointed towards Twilight who was busy trying to detect more reading from her device accidently bumping into a fellow CPA student much to her annoyance. Sunset approached behind Twilight. "Twilight, what have you been up to?" Twilight jumped in surprised and turned around. "Me? I was just-" "Who wants to know?!" Indigo Zap interrupted. "Uhh we do?" Rainbow Dash fought back. "Alright everyone, let's not get too competetive before the games even start," AppleJack reminded them. "The games aren't really competetive since we've never lost," Sugarcoat said bluntly. "*Cough three-zeroed *cough cough*" came a voice from behind. Indigo Zap quickly turned around. "No one asked for you're opin-" her eyes widened when she saw who it was. Amber shine looked at Indigo with an taunting smile. "You!" Indigo gasped. "Come on, Indigo, talk like a big girl. What's my name?" Indigo's eye's started to twitch. "You're that Amber girl from that damn Cloudsdale! You think you're so good huh?" "Well I don't usually consider myself the aboslute best," Amber said calmly. "But I just couldn't help but hear how you never lose. You always win the district? That's cute." "Damn that is brutal," Rainbow commented. "Okay for the record, we didn't even try going against you guys. You just sweat too much!" Indigo snapped. "Oh you wanna talk about sweating? Okay Miss, "I try so hard to beat CHS." Amber taunted. "Shut up!" Indigo said sharply. "And what are you doing with CHS? You decided to join the losers now?" "Wasn't really much of my choice, but why does it matter? You're not scared are you?" Amber asked with a smug. "That's bullshit! I hope you enjoyed your times beating us before because now, we'll whoop your asses so bad!" "Wow, that's what you said to me last time!" Amber said with fake enthusiasm. "Please tell me, Indigo, how did that went?" "We weren't really feeling our best," Indigo quickly said. "You think you're gonna win? I hope you realize how bad we dog on CHS." "We're not that bad..."Fluttershy quietly spoke up. However Indigo turned on her. "Fluttershy, don't even talk with your god-awful skills. You missed your target five times in that archery!" Fluttershy began to look down in shame. Amber gave Indigo a warning glare. "Hey don't talk about how awful Fluttershy's aim is especially when I 3-0 you in every competition." Indigo's face went red with embarassment and tried to think of a comeback but her mind came up empty. "You know what? You're not even worth it." she stomped away. Meanwhile, Pinkie went up to Twilight to introduce herself. "Hi there, I'm Pinkie Pie!" she cheerfully said. Twilight gave a nervous smile as she shook Pinkie's hand. "Oh hi. I'm Twilight," "It's super duper nice to meet you, Twilight even if you're from our rival school. And what's that?" Pinkie pointed at the device around Twilight's neck. "It's sort of a spectrometer. I built it to track EM frequencies, but it can also contain anomalies. It basically measures things." Twilight explained. "Like the party?" Pinkie asked. "Yes but it doesn't really seem like a party." Twilight said looking around. "I know just the thing to fix that. Come on!" Pinkie said excitedly as she grabbed Twilight by the arm and ran off with her, much to her surprise. Principal Celestia came on the stage and tapped on the mic to gain the student's attention. "I would like to take this oppurtunity to welcome our visitors from Crystal Prep who have come all this way to CHS." she announced. She paused for a moment before saying, "And we are honored to invite three very special guest over for the games!" She gestured towards three other High School aged students that were not from Canterlot High or Crystal Prep. "Not only that, but they will be the ones hosting the games for today." A series of slightly surprised faces spread across the student. "I don't think I saw them before," Rarity whispers. "Did we just gain another 3 new students?" "I don't think so. Principal Celestia usually asks me to give new students a tour," Sunset pointed out. Amber however immediatley knew who they were. The excitment in her eyes and expression did not go unnoticed by Sunset. "You know must know who they are huh?" she chuckled. Amber nodded as Sunset looked back at the three other students. Two boys and a girl. The first boy had light gray hair and sported a black jacket hoodie with dark blue jeans, tennis shoes and a silver wrist watch on his right wrist. The second one had light yellow hair and wore a black short sleeved t-shirt with matching shorts and casual shoes. He also wore a pair of glasses. The last one was a girl who had on a white leather jacket with a matching skirt. She had wavy brown hair that reached passed her shoulders and donned a pair of white tennis shoes with a black pattern on the sides. She was the first one to introduce herself to the students. "Hi everyone! First off we'd like to thank Princiapl Celestia and Vice Principal Luna for inviting us over for the Friendship Games. While we're here. We'd like to take a quick moment to introuce ourselves. My name is Sapphire Rain. I'm the Field Leader over at Cloudsdale High. I help train and prepare the competetitors for the Friendship Games. It's a pleasure to meet all of you." She said kindly with a smile. The boy with the gray hair was up next. Sapphire handed him the microphone and it was his turn to speak. "Hey everyone! It's great to meet you all. My name is Hydro Flame. I'm the Assistant Field Leader for the Cloudsdale team. Just like Sapphire, I also help train the competitors for the events. Before I became Assistant Field Leader, I had competed and helped Cloudsdale win the Friendship Games All Region. It's great being here and it's nice to meet you all as well." He said joyfully. Last but not least was the boy with light yellow hair. Hydro handed him over the microphone and the latter began to introduce himself. "Hi there! Name's Error Code and I'm the Assistant Field Leader in training. Not too long ago, I just got moved up so here I am I guess hehe..." He chuckled. "Hydro and Sapphire thought it would be great to show me what it was like observing the different schools that competed in the Friendship Games. Nothing too special about me really but nontheless I think it's going to be great getting to know all of you," He smiled and handed the microphone back to Sapphire. "And you're probably wondering what we're all doing here." she said to the students which some responded with a few nods. "Well after the games, we have a special offer for the winning team." She handed the microphone back to Principal Celestia and a few excited murmurs began to stir amongst the students. "Thank you, Sapphire, Hydro and Error. We really appreciate you coming here today and I can assure you, that these students strive in excellence and pride." Saphire and the other two stepped down from the stage to mingle with the students. Amber and her new friends went up to Saphire and the others. "Oh my gosh Sapphire I didn't know you were going to be here!" She said excitedly. "Well we were invited so we couldn't resist," Sapphire said as she and Amber shared a hug. "And it's so good to see you again, Mighty!" Amber said cheerfully. "Mighty?" Rainbow asked. "It's what everyone calls me," Hydro explained. "It sounded a lot cooler back then but I don't know if it has the same nice touch as it did before," he smiled sheepishly. "Well I think it's cool." Rainbow said. "That is if you don't mind us calling you 'Mighty'" "Oh thanks. If you really want to. I go by either Hydro or Mighty so I'm cool with either one." "Alright, Mighty. We'll make sure we remember that name," Rainbow smirked. "Oh yeah and I'm Rainbow Dash by the way." "Sunset Shimmer," Sunset said. "Pleasure meeting you," The other girls introduced themselves respectively "Fluttershy." "AppleJack" "Rarity" Mighty gave a smile and waved hi. Amber turned her attention to Error and smiled kindly. "And congratulations by the way, Error for getting moved up. How are you by the way?" Error returned the smile. "I'm doing good and thank you. I just got moved up a week ago. And the reason for that is because..." his smile seemed to falter which Amber noticed. "Oh is something wrong?" "Amber, in one month, I'll be leaving Cloudsale High. Me and my family will be moving across the country." Mighty said with a sad smile. "What? But everyone will miss you!" Amber gasped. "I know, and I'll miss them too but some desicions aren't really my choice you know." "That's why I'm in training. After a month, I'll be taking over Mighty's role." Error explained. "If anything, this would be the last Friendship Games that I'd get to see." Mighty added. "It's always the best players we have that move away," Sapphire chuckled. "First Amber and now we're about to lose Mighty. You were really one of our best players. It's no wonder everyone called you Mighty." "Hey, Error, you must get pretty tired of Crystal Prep's ego, huh?" Rainbow asked. "Oh yeah. There ego is higher than Mount Everest." "Um, you don't think we're you know...lame right?" Rarity asked. "Why would you think that?" "Because we always lose to Crystal Prep and then there's people like you who comes in and just steps on them." "Oh no, Crystal Prep is good, I'll admit but they like to overrexagerrated their accomplishments. Don't worry we don't think you're lame." "Oh that's a relief. We were worried you'd think there was something wrong with us." "Don't be so hard on yourselves. One day, you'll beat Crystal Prep," Sapphire assured. "And I have a feeling this time, we will!" Rainbow beamed. "Well good luck, because that school will certainly give it their all." Mighty said. > Pinkie's Party Cannons (Short chapter) > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Ugh! What in the world are in these things?" Twilight gasped as she and Pinkie were pushing down two abnormally giant boxes down the hallway. "And why are they so heavy?" "They're party cannons!" Pinkie said cheerfully. "They let you have cannons in school?" Twilight asked looking shocked. "They're just cannons that shoot confetti. They're not like actually real cannons so they're completley safe," Pinkie assured. Twilight saw they still had a good distance to go before they reached the doors. Twilight groaned as she continued pushing along with Pinkie. After a few more pushes she stopped pushing to take a quick breath. "Hold on...I think I need to take a quick breather." she panted. "Yeah, I think I need one too," Pinkie agreed although it didn't even look like she was exhausted. After a couple minutes they resumed their pushing. On the bright side, they were just halfway down the hallway so it wasn't that bad and at least they didn't have to bring it downstairs. After many pushes Pinkie said to Twilight, "Okay, Twilight. Just a few more!" After about thirty exhaustin pushes they had finally made it to the door. "Finally...We made it." Twilight gasped catching her breath. Pinkie's eyes went wide as she just realized something. "Ohhhhhhh Twilight, okay so I just realized these are not the party cannons. These are boxes full of bricks from when I helped one of my friends on their barn. We gotta take these back and get the party cannons." "And you're just telling me now?" Twilight groaned. "Can't we just leave them here?" "No, silly! It's a fire hazard if we do! Come on, it's not that far." Twilight looked down the hallway in distress. She groaned again and now began to push the two boxes in the opposite direction. Meanwhile, AppleJack had noticed Pinkie wasn't with them. "Hey has anyone seen Pinkie?" She asked. "Beats me, she could be anywhere," Rainbow shrugged. "I saw her ran off with that new Twilight," Fluttershy pointed out. "Hey, Mighty. Do you have any ideas on what the Friendship Games are going to be?" "Yes, we do know what they are but unfortunaltely, we're not allowed to tell you until it starts. Sorry." "Aww well that's alright. I just know with Amber on our team, we'll kick anyone's butt!" "Oh yeah I don't doubt that." Mighty chuckled. "I think we will too." Amber agreed. "To me, it's just going to be a repeat of previous games but I'm sure for you guys it's going to be an amazing day to remember." "Yeah, it totally is!" Rainbow responded enthusiatically. "I still just can't wrap my head around how you're so good, Amber." "Wanna know how? Well Mighty here is your answer." she laughed. "Would you believe me if I said before I was so bad that I was even worse than Fluttershy?" She quickly realized what she said. "Oh I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend you, Fluttershy." "it's okay, none taken." Fluttershy responded. "No way..." Rainbow said in disbelief. "Yes, Rainbow. If you saw me before, you would not believe how awful I was." "It's true. I almost couldn't believe it either," Mighty said. "There were times when I thought about giving up entirely helping her train. But I knew she had potential and just needed help reaching it. It was a challenge believe me, and when I say that I meant it took countless days but now...I'm just blown away how far she's come. I still remember her reaction when she was chosen to compete for the Friendship Games All-Region." Amber's face blushed red. "Wow..." was all AppleJack said. "Thats...amazing." "Amber isn't the only one. I've also trained Error and just about over 100 students in the past couple years." "WHAT?!" all the girls gasped. "You're kidding!" Rainbow gasped. "It's not that big of deal," Mighty said with a sly smile. "I just like helping people, that's all. And besides even I was just like Amber. No one is born being insane you know. If it wasn't for Sapphire, I don't think I would have been where I am right now." "You think I'm good, Rainbow. Wait until you compete against Mighty," Amber giggled. "I'll lose for sure but I think I'll be able to get a few points," Rainbow said confidently. "You seem like a good player. Who knows you might tie or even beat me." Mighty replied. Back across the hallways, Twilight and Pinkie had now just finished pushing the boxes across the hallways. "Okay...just...need...a little...break," Twilight said weakly as she collapsed to the ground in exhaustion. > Pinkie's Party and game preparation > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Okey dokey, Twilight. These are the correct boxes!" Pinkie chirped as they were at the entrance doors again. Twilight was practically gasping for air at this point while the latter didn't even look exshausted. Pinkie opened up the boxes to reveal two large party cannons. Twilight realized what was about to happen and looked worriedly at the Cannons and to Pinkie wondering if this was safe. "Umm are you sure this is a good idea?" "Absolutley!" Pinkie beamed as she fired the party cannons of confetti, and at the same moment, she quickly put a huge table of of assorted cupcakes in the corner of the gym and handed Vynyl a CD player. It all happened so fast that to Twilight, she didn't even see anything. At that moment, the welcoming party was now beginning to feel like an actual party. The vibes were changing, confetti was falling everywhere, and even the CPA an CHS students were starting to mingle in a not-so-hostile way. Twilight looked around in amazement as she saw the excited and happy faces of both schools. They were having a great time, but Pinkie was the one who was the most esctatic. "This party is aboslutley super duper fantastic!" She squealed as she began to rise in the air emitting a pink aura around her. At the moment, the device around twilight's neck began to vibrate and seemed to pull towards Pinkie like a magnet. The next thing Twilight realized was that it looked like it was draining magic from Pinkie as the latter slowly descended back on the floor feeling tired. Principal Cinch came up on the stage and tapped the microphone, making a screeching sound that caused everyone to cover their ears. Cinch waited for a few minutes before speaking. "First, I'd like to thank Principal Celestia for the unconventional welcome. It's been awhile since the last Friendship Games but it seems like nothing has ever changed. It's amazing after so many losses, Canterlot High is still commited to it's ideals. They continue to pick their students in a popularity contest and Crystal Prep continues to fued it's top twelve. I wish you all the best of luck, regardless of the eneviable outcome." "And that outcome will change today." Everyone turned their attention to Amber who had a smirk forming on her face. If there was anyone who did not notice her in the room, they certainly did now. Principal Cinch noticed her too but had trouble remembering who she was. "Hiya everyone! My gosh it's so nice to meet all of you since we competed in our Friendship Games. I find it amazing how you talk about winning despite the reality of getting your behinds handed to you." "And who might you be?" Cinch asked slightly irrated. "Principal Cinch, don't you remember me? Amber Shine. I'm a transfer student from Cloudsdale High. You remember that school, right?" Amber asks in a sweet yet somewhat taunting manner. The Crystal Prep's student body suddenly went pale as one student whispered to the other, "We are so fucking screwed." "I know right." "Amber, it amazes me how confident you are. It really does and I wish you good luck if you're going to gain victory, because this time, you're going to need it." Cinch says coldly. She walked off the stage as Celestia took back the microphone. "Later today, the first round will start which will be hosted by the Field Leaders. You all have two hours to prepare while everything gets set up." She dismissed the students as they began to leave the gym. "I can just see CPA's faces when they lose to us. Can you imagine? Crystal Prep loses to CHS!" Rainbow says with excitement. "I have no doubt their reaction would be priceless and trust me, I'll be there to witness it all." Amber said. "If we want to win these games we need to put our absolute best out there." The girls nodded in agreement. "Indeed, no matter what, we shall put one hunred and ten percent," Rarity agreed. "And remember, we have the field leaders hosting this time and if Mighty and Sapphire gives you a perfect evaulation, I can guarantee that's a one way ticket to victory." Sunset noticed Pinkie collapsed on the floor exhausted. "Oh my gosh Pinkie!" She ran towards her followed by her friends. "Are you alright? What happened?" "I don't know...Everyone was having fun and then out of no where it felt like the magic drained right out of me." "Did you just say 'drain' out of you?" Sunset questioned. "Well I thought the party additions were really swell," AJ complimented. "Yes if only that Principal Cinch hadn't frozen it again," Rarity said. "Yeah, she's awful," Pinkie groaned. "Well we can't worry too much about her. We gotta have our minds ready for the first round," Rarity pointed out. "If we want to win, we need to be on our A game!" Meanwhile while everyone else was getting ready Mighty, Sapphire and Error were making sure everything was set up for the competetion. "You think Crystal Prep is going to win again, Mighty?" Sapphire asked. "Who knows. This time they have to deal with the one who beat them countless times," Mighty chuckled. "But we'll see." "So the first round is the home ec, right?" Error asked. "That's right. We'll evaulate each student's cooking and whoever team wins is the one who had the best score," Mighty confirmed. "It's going to be a tough one though." "Mhm, Crystal Prep might have an ego but they made some really high quality food." Sapphire said. "Yeah but nothing will top Error's Chocolate Souffle!" Mighty grinned. "I know I keep telling you, dude but that was probably the best dessert I had in my life!" "Come on, is it really that big of a deal?" Error asked as he blushed. "Whether it was or not, it was the best we've ever tasted. Hell not even Lemon Zest's Creme Brulee came close, I mean they had really good dishes especially Sour Sweet's Blue Berry Cheesecake. If the Chocolate Souffle didn't win, then it would have been the cheesecake." Mighty said. After they were done talking, they finished setting up the room. Once they were done, they exited the room to meet with the students at the front entrance ready to begin the games. > Round 1 Acadeca Part I: Apple Pie > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Welcome to the first round. The academic decathalon!" Dean Cadence announced. In this round, you'll be scored on the academic portion of this event but remember, only the six students with the most points will move on to round two!" "Good luck everyone, and give it your all." Principal Celestia said as she smiled. "Sapphire, Hydro, and Error. They're all yours." Celestia, Luna, Cadence and Cinch left the front as the field leaders took over. "Alright everyone, if you follow us, we'll show you where the first round is." Sapphire said as she began walking to the home ec room as the other students followed. "Home ec as our first round I guess," Rainbow whispered to Rarity. "I think I know what we'll be doing." In the Home ec room, there were tables set up with cooking ingredients as well as a table at thefront of the room. Sapphire instructed the students to pair up and take a table as she, Mighty and Error stood behind the table at the front of the room. For the students, AppleJack paired up with Rarity, Fluttershy with Pinkie Pie, Amber with Sunset, and Rainbow with Lyra. The Shadowbolts were just finished pairing up as Mighty began to explain the round. "Right, so the first round will be home economics. One of the most important skills in the class is food preperation. The ability to cook." Mighty explained. "You can make anything you want and at the end, the winning team is based on how well each student made the dish." "You all have one hour and twenty five minutes." Sapphire said as she pulled out a stop watch and set the timer. "Are you all ready?" The students nodded as she started the timer. Now on the time, the students were quickly thinking what they would want to prepare. "You know what we're going to make?" Sunset asked. Amber smirked and looked at her. "Oh I have an idea. I made this dish before. It's a honey semifredo with lemon crumb and honey caramel." "That sounds fancy," Sunset chuckled. "Is it good?" "Is it good? Sunset have you tried it before?" Amber laughed. "Come on let's not waste anymore time." Meanwhile AppleJack and Rarity decided on making an apple pie, while Pinkie and Fluttershy planned on making a cake. For the rest of the students, they all settled in on something similar. "I've been making apple pies for as long as I can remember!" AJ exclaimed as she mixed the ingredients. "I tell you, Rarity the first time I tried an apple pie as a little kid, I remember the tangy sweet apples that melts in your mouth. Ever since then, my mother taught me how to bake one. A recipe that granny smith taught her." "Wow. I don't really know how to cook much. The only thing I can make is pasta." Rarity said. "Well we all have our strengths," AJ chuckled. "Okie dokey, Fluttershy. Get ready for the most delicious cake!" Pinkie squealed as she started to mix the ingredients in a white bowl. "I just need a few more sugar!" "That's seems like way too much. Are you sure you know what you're doing?" Fluttershy asked. "Do I know what I'm doing?" Pinkie scoffed. "Uh yeah! Trust me this cake is going to blow everyone's mind." When the timer neared it's end. Sapphire announced to the students, "Everyone, you have thirty minutes remaining!" The students started to pick up the pace upon hearing the thirty minute warning as they tried to finish up the last touches on their food dishes. Amber and Sunset were just adding the lemon crumbs on the semifreddo topped with a caramel cream that ran down the sides. AJ and Rarity were almost done adding the cinnamon. Not to mention the apples have also been glazed. Pinkie and Fluttershy were now waiting for the cake to finish baking in the oven. As for Rainbow and Lyra, they were almost done with their flan dessert adding the finishing touches of caramel and vanilla. The timer buzzed signaling as Mighty announced. "Times up! Please stop what you're doing and stand behind your dishes!" The students all stood behind their dishes as Mighty, Sapphire and Error stood at the front of the room. "First up, we have AppleJack and Rarity," Sapphire said. "Would you two please bring to the front table what you've prepared?" AppleJack and Rarity felt a little nervous but they convinced themselves this was only round one. They bought the apple pie to the front table as Mighty took a step foward and looked at them and at the dish. "AppleJack, Rarity would you care to explain what you've prepared?" "Of course. It's an apple pie with a golden crust and the apples are glazed with cinnamon added in it." AJ explained. "We've also wanted to go for the more classical look. You know, the ones that look like a knitting pattern on top," Rarity added. "Well it does look pretty good and I do admire the classic feel this pie gives from the crust design," Mighty said as he took a fork and gently scraped the side of it on the crust. "You hear that? The texture on the crust: very well done. I do love how it's a perfect balance. Not too hard yet not too soft now lets see if it tastes good as it looks." Mighty cut a piece of pie and took a bite. AJ and Rarity were beginning to feel a bit nervous but managed to stay at ease. Mighty swallowed and looked at the two girls. "AppleJack, Rarity. One of the best parts of an apple pie besides the crust is the apples itself. The sweet glaze of an apple is what makes the pie stand out and this one right here.....is no exception," he smiled. AJ and Rarity felt their hearts skip a beat as they felt joy. "The flavor. Amazing is all I can say. And the way the apples almost melt into your mouth is exceptional." Mighty cutted another piece and held it showing the girls the glazed apples inside. "Take a glance and tell me what do you think this looks like." "It looks mouthwatering," Rarity said in awe. "How about you girls try a bite?" Mighty offered. "And tell me what you think?" Rarity and AJ took a piece and tried it for themselves. The moment they took the first bite, they're eyes went wide on how good it tasted. "My goodness! This is amazing!" Rarity exclaimed. "You sure said it! I can't remember I've had an apple pie this good before!" AJ agreed. "I agree. You girls did a wonderful job. Now a complaint I do have is that the glaze seems to almost block the cinnamon taste. For a perfect apple pie. We'd want to have a perfect balance between the glaze, cinnamon and other ingredients. That is what would make it stand out even more but other than that I thought this was really well made. Nice job." Mighty went back and Sapphire took a step foward. AJ and Rarity felt their hearts race with joy. A great start so far! Sapphire took a step foward and cut herself a piece. When she was finished. she looked at two girls. "Now I can't recall the last time I tried an apple pie but when I think of them. This is what comes to mind." She smiled as she gestured to the now quarter gone apple pie. "If there's one word to describe it. It would be outstanding. "If I were to sit down at a high end resutaraunt and they served me this exact pie. I would not question a single thing about it. This pie was made to a high standard which you girls clearly accomplished. This is fantastic." Sapphire beamed as she headed back. Last but not least was Error's turn. He cut himself a piece and took a bite. After he swallowed, he began to share his opinion. "By far one of the best apple pie I have ever tasted. From the texture, flavor all the way to the design. And speaking of that, I love how you girls went with the classical look. It gives it an enhancing presentation, which is a key part in food preparation. It's what attracts the attention of people. It's what seperates a regular apple pie from something stunning as this." Error said as he gestured to the pie. "And the crust has an incredible almost gold like texture which adds a great touch. Good job, girls." AJ and Rarity went back to their tables as their friends began to compliment them. "That was amazing, AJ and Rarity!" Amber exclaimed. "You girls did great!" Sunset complimented. "I think they really liked it." "From the way they described it, it seems like the pie was super super delectable!" Pinkie squealed. "That was awesome!" Rainbow said with enthusiasm. "A great start so far!" "You really nailed it," Fluttershy said with a kind smile. "Next up, we have Rainbow Dash and Lyra Heartstrings." Sapphire said. > Round 1 Acadeca Part II: Caramel Flan > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rainbow Dash and Lyra came up to the front table with their flan and set it on the table. Mighty took a step foward and asked, "Care to explain what you two made?" "It's a caramel flan. We decided to go for a more fancy dessert," Rainbow replied. "We wanted to do something that was a little out of our comfort zone," Lyra added. "Neither of us have much cooking expirence but I think at least we were able to get it done." Before Mighty sliced himself a piece, he examined the texture on it. "The texture seems really nice. Very smooth and the caramel running down the sides I think is a nice addition." He sliced himself a piece and tried it. Rainbow and Lyra were wishing the best for themselves as they waited for Mighty to share his opinion. I hope he likes it, Rainbow thought. "Now Rainbow and Lyra. The flan I think has a nice caramel taste on the outside and it's very smooth and moist. Unfortunatley on the inside it does fall on the bland category. In contrast to the sweet taste outside, the inside doesn't seem to have that nice quality that I was hoping for. Perhaps next time, try adding a bit more flavor for the inside when you mix the ingredients which in this case you girls used vanilla is that correct?" "Yes, that's right," Lyra said. "And besides vanilla, don't be afraid to try anything. Add a few more tables of sugar. Even a few teaspoons of honey. If you want your dish the stand out you gotta take a step or two out of your comfort zone, but I see you girls got a lot of potential. I know you do. You're here because people voted for you to compete. You just need to find a way to express it on a plate." Mighty said as he smiled gently. Rainbow was a bit upset that her and Lyra's caramel flan wasn't all that great but it could've been a lot worse. Mighty went back and Sapphire stepped foward. She sliced herself a piece and tried it. "The flavor isn't really that great, and I think the caramel could have been sweeter, although I do love how smooth the caramel looks and the way it runs down the flan adds a really fine touch. Even though the inside isn't up to par, I do like how you girls made sure to make it smooth as possible so you get that nice quality when taking a bite. Thank you, Lyra and Rainbow," Sapphire said. Error stepped foward and took a fork tried a piece before sharing what he thought of it. "Now if I'm being honest, flans are not the easiest to make. It requires careful measurements, timing and attention to detail. And as brutal as this might sound, this flan does show a bit of your inexpirence. However the fact that you girls were confident enough to choose a more difficult dish and commit to finishing it is what makes you strong competitors." "Rainbow and Lyra you can head back and take your food back to your table now." Sapphire said. Rainbow and Lyra headed back to their tables. They felt a bit dissapointed in themselves that their evaulation wasn't all that great. "Don't feel too bad. I thought you girls did great," Amber reassured. "Next up. Sunny Flare and SugarCoat." Sapphire announced. She took a step foward towards the front table as the two Crystal Prep students bought their food to the table. "And would you care to explain what you've made?" Sunny Flare gestured to the dish she and SugarCoat made. "It's a strawberry glazed cheesecake topped with a few thin dark chocolate bars and strawberry slices on top." she said. "I think you might enjoy it." she said with a smug. "I'll determine that after I try it," Sapphire said as she tried a piece. After a few seconds she looked at SugarCoat and SunnyFlare. "Great taste and awesome use of strawberries. It really adds in that nice combination to make a worthy dessert and that feeling of from this dish. that fine taste of strawberries mixed in with the perfect amount of chocolate is what makes this dish stand out, though do be careful on the glaze. It does seem to be excessivley sweet which takes away the attention of the most important thing on this plate: the actual cheesecake itself. How much sugar did you add in the glaze?" "I think we added like 7 whole cups of sugar," Sunny Flare said. "I would suggest next time not adding in so much," Sapphire smiled as she headed back. Mighty stepped foward and sliced himself a piece. As he ate it, Sunny Flare took a worried glance over at Amber and Sunset's dish and got a sick feeling in her stomach. As much as she didn't want to admit it, it looked pretty damn good but her mind didn't have time to think anymore when Mighty began to evaulate their dish. "Now Cheesecakes are something very delicate. It's a well known dessert across the world and there's no doubt you girls know your stuff when baking." He took a fork and gently pressed the side of it on the surface. "What we have here is a smooth surface which is always good but perhaps the highlight would be the arrangement of the strawberries and chocolate. I can tell each one was carefully placed which gives it this fine display. Good job." Error stepped up and tried a slice for himself. "This is I think really spot on. You girls did a great job pulling off this cheesecake and it has this nice rich flavor that's the pinnacle of all cheesecakes. Each part is executed to a high degree. "Excellent job." SunnyFlare and SugarCoat went back to their tables when Mighty called out the next pair. "Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy are up next!" Pinkie giggled as she turned to Fluttershy. "They're going to have their minds blown." > Round 1 Acadeca Part III: Mona Lisa Cake > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pinkie and Fluttershy bought their cake to the front table as Sapphire took a step forward. She smiled at them as she said, "I see you decided to go for a cake. Classic choice I must say." "There's actually a really nice surprise about this cake but you might need to cut it open," Pinkie giggled. "We hope you like it." Fluttershy said softly with a timid smile. Sapphire took a fork sliced a piece for herself and ate it. "Excellent flavor for both the outside and inside. There's this really nice cream icing that's just not common in most cakes and I think you girls really got what it takes. As for the actually cake itself, I think this the prime example of what all good cakes should be. The aroma comes off very pleasant and natural. Not like the ones you buy from the store but rather one that's homemade. Outstanding job, girls." Sapphire smiled as she headed back. Now it was Mighty's turn to try a bite. When he tried one, Pinkie and Fluttershy were beginning to get worried because he wasn't as quick to respond as Sapphire. "Now this cake I thought was well made. I can tell you girls put a lot of effort into it, however I will say the icing is a bit too sweet. Like most things cakes are one of those dishes where balance matters. Every part of the cake needs to have the same amount of sweetness. If the icing is way too sweet, it creates an unbalanced flavor for taste. The icing needs to be just as sweet as the actually cake itself and as for the designs on the outside, I wish they were a bit more creative. One thing that really draws everyone's attention to a cake is the design. Before they even take a bite out of it, it's the design that draws them in. If you were to put this cake on a pedestal at the museum people should want to take pictures. The cake isn't horrible but there are a few things that would have made it better." "Take pictures you say?" Pinkie smirked. "Why don't you cut it open? You might find a surprise." "Alright then, but I'll let Error do the honors since it's his turn now." Mighty said. Error took a step foward and sliced the whole cake in half and opened it. When the inside half was revealed everyone stared in shock. On the inside of the cake, was the Mona Lisa painting but made of cake. Everyone was shocked and even Amber couldn't believe her eyes. "What in the world?!" Error gasped. "How is that possible?!" Mighty and Sapphire took a look and their eyes went wide. "What the heck?" Mighty said. "Feel free to take as much pictures as you want," Fluttershy said sweetly. Everyone gathered around the cake. Error took his first bite but now with the elephant in the room, he had no choice but to comment on the Mona Lisa picture. "You girls pretty much mastered baking a cake and as for the Mona Lisa, never in my entire life have I had seem something like this." He turned to Sapphire and Hydro. "What do you think? If no other dishes are better, this one is the winner of the first round?" "I'm all for it," Sapphire said. "Pinkie and Fluttershy, if no other dishes are better than you're team wins this round." The latter's faces lit up with joy as they went back to their table. The next pair to come up was Sunset and Amber. They bought their plate up as Sapphire asked them what they made. "It's a Honey Semifredo with lemon crumb with caramel on top," Amber said proudly. "I must say this does look pretty good," Sapphire commented as she took a fork grabbed a piece. "The taste on this is spot on. You get that lemon taste in with the right amount of caramel and the way it runs down adds an enhancing look that really appeals to the eyes. Everything about this is amazing and if there was one thing I would change, is maybe making the semifredo itself a little bit sweeter because this is amazing. Good job." Mighty stepped forward and took a bite. It didn't take him long to realize how good it was. "This dessert was executed very well, with little to no flaws. Honestly, this might be one of the best desserts I've ever tasted and I've tried a lot of them. This is what I would expect to be served in a restaurant. Nice job, Amber and Sunset." Error was the last one to critique ad he tried a bite. "This is incredible. Never in my life have I tasted anything this good. Everything about this is amazing and the way it looks is mouthwatering. You girls outdone yourselves," he beamed. Amber and Sunset's face lit up with joy. The other students continued to bring thier dishes to the front to be judged. Some were really good, but there were a few not so much, such as Flash and Bon Bon's cornbread which would have been okay if it wasn't burnt. Something Mighty took notice right off the bat. "Since it is burnt this dish is a bit of a letdown," he said as he took a fork and sliced a piece. After he tried it he said, "Now, I'm assuming that you weren't expecting this to be burnt right?" "Hehe no I think we might have put it in the oven for too long," Flash chuckled nervously "We were not expecting it to look this bad," BonBon added. After Mighty tried a bite, he gently put down his fork. "And another thing is this cornbread does taste kind of bland." Sapphire and Error had similar opinions as Mighty. Near the end of the round, Sapphire announced, "Now out of all of you there are 3 pairs that stood out." "AppleJack and Rarity, Amber and Sunset, Pinkie and Fluttershy." Mighty said. The ones who were called were told to come to the front. "Now all your dishes were the best we have seen. The Apple Pie, cake, and semifredo. All of you should be proud of yourselves because you and your team had won the first round." Sapphire smiled. The Canterlot students cheered as the Crystal Prep ones were starting to worry. "OHh my goodness we won!" Pinkie squealed. "Settle down now, this is only round 1." AJ laughed. "But this is good news nontheless." After the first round ended, it was now time for the second round.
