> Shadow Wolf > by Lulamoon-Crystal > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Shadow Wolf > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sunny and her friends laid on the ground battered up, they were fighting a villain that sucked all magic from the world. This creature wasn’t Tirec, it was the Shadow Wolf. The Shadow Wolf was from a meteor that struck Equestria many moons ago, it hadn’t woken until magic returned. The Shadow Wolf was a huge wolf-shaped monster, fur as dark as night, red eyes and a purple mouth. On its forehead was a gem, a shade of red that matched its eyes. “Sunny, we can’t defeat this thing!” Izzy yelled hopelessly and she lifted her scarred leg. Zipp nodded, “Yeah, we have to back away, there’s no use!” He wings were ruffled. “It’s too strong!” Cried Pipp, she was the most battered of the lot. Hitch nodded, “The magic is gone for good we tried everything!” Sunny looked around at all her friends, hopeless faces. They tried attacking the body and gem multiple times, but it was too fast! It would either blast them away with magic coming from its mouth or gem, or it would whip around wildly and roll over in attempt to throw them off or crush them. She looked at the gem, they couldn’t get close because the wolf would just knock them off. She looked up at the wolf that stared at them angrily, not seeming to want to eat them, in fact it roared at them and walked away. Everyone looked at her as she gasped with an idea, she looked at them with determination. “Hey, we are not done yet!” Sunny shouted. Sunny shakily got up, she remembered that nearby was a boulder on a cliff high up, it blocked an avalanche. If they could just push them onto the creature, then that should be enough to crack the gem. But they needed a distraction, Sunny looked at her friends, tearfully, she nodded, she didn’t want any of her friends getting hurt more. It was decided, the distraction was going to be her. It was better off, she wasn’t very good with the alicorn magic yet, but she knew it would help if the plan went wrong. “What is it Sunny?” Asked Zipp with concern. Sunny nodded, “I have a plan!” Sunny sighed, knowing her friends wouldn’t like it. “Nearby is this huge cliff with a boulder on top that can be kicked down... the avalanche that follows should be big and heavy enough to crack the gem and destroy the beast,” Sunny then sighed, “But we need a distraction... one that will lead it into the pit area and make it stay there!” Everyone gasped in shock and worry, they looked at Sunny. “I’ll do it!” Zipp ordered. “Zipp, no... you can’t, we need a fast runner, and your leg...” Sunny responded, looking at Zipp’s broken leg, “I have to... I’m the fastest runner of the five of us besides Zipp, I can do this guys, I’ll be fine, I have alicorn magic, remember? Just play your part,” ”No! What if we lose you, you’re my first friend,” Asked Izzy, that question made Sunny feel worse. “I‘ll be okay... okay? Just I know we got this. Like last time, we just need to work together,” She put her hoof out, “Hoof to heart?” They all nodded and put their hooves together, “Hoof To Heart!” Sunny held back tears as they ran off, “I hate lying to them...” She sighed, knowing that this would possibly be the last time she would see her friends. Her heart was heavy, she sighed. The four stood on each side of a large boulder that was holding back an avalanche that would go into a large open area that was surrounded with cliffs, it had a big opening that was the only way in and out of the area besides flying or climbing. They all stood there, ready to kick the boulder and release the avalanche. Soon enough, Sunny ran into the opening with The Shadow Wolf hot on her heels, they all nodded and started bucking the boulder. The Shadow Wolf snarled and sneaked up to Sunny as she was cornered. Sunny was scared, there were tears in her eyes and her body shook. Her heart raced as the jaws approached her, but then the ears on the wolf moved. It perked its head up and spotted Sunny’s friends cracking the Boulder. Sunny gasped in shock as it snarled at them and got ready to jump up at them, it did and started to climb the cliff, she shouted at it and tried to activate her alicorn magic. It took her a while, her face sweated a little as she did so. “No... you don’t!” Sunny shouted as her body glowed and a transparent pair of wings and horn appeared on her body. She grabbed the beast’s tail in her levitation and pulled it down the cliff, it yelped as it hit the ground. It jumped up to Sunny with jaws open to snap at her, but she quickly dodged. As Sunny flew up she realised when the avalanche fell she would be okay, she could just fly out of a way. Sunny was thankful for Zipp’s flying lessons and Izzy’s magic lessons, even through they both were quite new to it too. Soon they bolder was shattered and the avalanche fell, Sunny flew upwards. A huge grin of victory on her face, her heart was racing, she thought she was a goner! She flew upwards proudly, unaware of the glowing gem, she smiled. But her grin only lasted a few seconds as a long, thin sharp blast of magic resembling an arrow shot Sunny in the side. It came from the monster’s gem just seconds before a boulder hit it, cracking it. Her alicorn magic faded as she fell and was buried by the avalanche. She screamed in pain and fear as she fell. The pain in her body was unbearable, it stung so badly. Sunny tried to flap, her heart raced but when she finally hit the sharp rocks everything went black. Up top Sunny’s friends watched the avalanche of rocks fill the pit, hoping she was okay. When they saw her in her alicorn form they expected her to be flying out but they didn’t see her. They did hear her scream, they all panicked and were scared for her. “Do you see her?” Pipp asked with fear for her friend. Zipp gulped, she wanted to say yes but that wasn’t the truth. “No...” Zipp responded sadly. When every last boulder and pebble was in the pit the four ponies looked around. They searched for her. Magic did return, but everyone ignored the glow of wings and horns. They wanted and needed to find their friend, it was urgent. She had to be okay. “S-sunny!?” Shouted Pipp. “Sunny!” Yelled Zipp. “Sunny! Where are you!?” Shouted Izzy uneasily. Fearing for the worse they all made their way down. The pegasi flew while Hitch moved rocks with his hooves, bucking them, breaking them or pushing them and called her name. The search took a while until they all gathered in the middle, except for Izzy. “There was no sign of her,” Zipp shook her head. Pipp nodded, “Nothing,” Her voice cracked as she wiped her tears. Hitch held back tears, “She has to be here, I’m not going to give up!” Hitch shouted. Everyone nodded, but they soon heard Izzy with a very depressed voice. Her voice cracked as she could out for the others. It appeared she was crying. “G-guys...” Izzy’s face was soaked with tears, she looked the worst out of all of them. On her back was Sunny, laid there, looking as if she was asleep but her body had been better. “Sunny!” The three ponies screamed in distress as Izzy put Sunny down comfortably. Izzy sobbed, “S-She’s not w-waking up,” She stated, “She d-didn’t respond to anything,” Hitch put his hooves on Sunny’s body and shared shaking her. He was trying to not cry as he looked down at her unmoving body. It was still warm. “Wake up Sunny! Please!” He said in panic, “I need you!” Zipp pushed Hitch out the way and studied her body, there was a stab would in her side along with gashes and bruises on her body. Her fur was stained with dirt and blood. It was clear the beast had one more hit as Sunny tried to escape as it died. If she was not hit, she would have most likely survived the rockslide… “Sunny...” Zipp whispered a tear going down her cheek as her heart raced. Izzy watched Zipp check for a heartbeat, she knew she was dead, she even had to close her lifeless eyes herself. It was just scary seeing them open like that. She had never seen something so bad in her life. But she didn’t want to believe she was dead, she just couldn’t. Pipp was the first to speak from her speechless friends as Izzy put her face into her hooves. “I-Is she okay?” Asked Pipp. Hitch couldn’t take it, “No..., please no...” He whispered, tears going down his face. “She’s okay!” Izzy assured herself, “She’s just sleeping! Right? She’s taking a nap!” Zipp looked at Izzy, she knew no one was going to take the news well. She wondered why Sunny didn’t let her do the distractions, she wanted to know why Sunny did it! She was slightly angry but mostly heartbroken, she had no shame in showing her tears. “Sh-she’s...” Zipp stuttered, “Gone...” Hitch broke down, he curled up on the floor freaking out. Pipp covered her muzzle and sat on the ground, tears pouring out. Zipp sat there, over Sunny’s body, sobbing, staring at her friend’s body, she couldn’t believe she was gone. Izzy went to Sunny and touched her shoulder, it was now cold, she hoping Zipp was wrong. “H-hey, S-Sunny? My first friend, c-cmon,” He voice cracked, “P-please get up,” “She sacrificed herself... we saved the magic again but this time... Sunny...” Zipp cried, “Why now? We...” The ponies sat there for a while and mourned for their loss. They didn’t know what to do or say for a while, on the way to Maretine Bay nopony spoke a world. Hitch carried Sunny on his back, he felt it was the right thing, she was her foal-hood friend after all. Upon arrival and noticing Sunny, Maretine Bay was quiet. They where shocked and upset when they heard of what happened. When the funeral came, the whole town and many others attended, she did save the magic twice after all. Izzy hugged Sunny’s bag, she sobbed when she looked at it, remembering Sunny. Back then when she found Sunny she shouted in shock. She moved the boulders and dirt off her as fast as she could, only to be met with a dead stare that was burnt into her mind. Izzy had to drag Sunny out and check for a pulse, there’s wasn’t any. That was the most horrifying experience she ever had. The team was quiet for a few weeks, but still took care of themselves and others. After mourning for a few weeks they hung out and had fun together, it was what Sunny would have wanted.
