Harun was a powerful warrior with unmatched skills in dual-wield when it came to the sword and even more unmatched with his use of the spear. His current task was to be in service to Sunset Shimmer. He had fallen in love with this young lady, and he knew that she knew it. However, they occasionally went out to lunch as friends but nothing romantic. Sunset was from a wealthy family while he was from a poorer family in the Canterlot suburbs. 
On this particular day, he was off and walking about Canterlot. He saw the one whom he loved with her friends. He hung back and tried to keep our of sight. He knew all of the girls she was with and the guys as well. He didn't dare approach Sunset Shimmer while his captain was there. As he tried to duck out of sight again Shining Armor saw him. "Harun my friend! Join us won't you?"
"Captain....I um.....would like to but I have things to tend to." He was hoping to be dismissed. 
"Harun.....is it because of social status or something? For a man of courage on the field, I am slightly amused how....um.....frightened you are of a young lady."
"It's not that sir, well sort of, I am a middle class citizen from an outside nation and Miss Sunset is of one of the elite families."
By this time Sunset had to interject. "Harun, even though social norms won't let us be a thing, my father told me how while his legion was in full retreat and he fell wounded......you risked everything to save him. He even said out of his bravest men, you were the only one who came back for him. Your loyalty and strength of will to fight to the death for him is what got you promoted; even now you enjoy things other officers do not."
"I am aware of that my lady, it's that......"
Shining Armor had to jab a slight joke, "Let me finish for you friend, 'it's that a beautiful young lady as yourself disarms my prowess'." Sunset Shimmer blushed a little as Harun turned red and and stammered to salvage his dignity as Shining had nailed him on the head. 
"He's right ma'am,  if I may take my leave?" Sunset nodded and sadly watched him walk away. 
"Harun! I order you to join us for the day! That means all day Corporal!" Harun froze and did as he was ordered. Shining Armor decided to use his rank to let the pair be together. His sister Twilight Sparkle knew her brother meant well even though it cost Harun is dignity. The poor guy had become very nervous, the siblings could tell that he wanted to put his arm around her. Big Mac and Applejack bet by the end of the day that the pair would at least hug. Zephyr Breeze and Fluttershy waited for that hug to come.
"Sunset.....my lady....."
"You want to ask if you can put your arm around me? You can do so, it's a bit chilly and I had forgotten my shawl. Harun was wearing a long cloak which he put on Sunset Shimmer and he put his arm around her to try to keep her warm. As the day drew into the evening, he needed to take his leave for he had night watch that evening. To Harun's almost purest joy he got assigned to the portion where Sunset Shimmer slept. 
As he kept watch by her room and the hallways and battlements he be close to the one he loved. He knew that a few guards envied him, he was a favorite and no one dared to face off with him. Spear in hand and a pair of short swords on his waist he stood like a mighty oak when he became uneasy about something. Everything was clear and no alarms were given. Just something felt off. 
Feeling like a pervert he opened Sunset Shimmer's door. Inside he saw a pair of cloaked figures. Hastily he lit torches and ordered, "Lay your swords down! And reveal yourselves!" The figures were two thieves. He attacked as Sunset Shimmer saw the intruders. How long had they waited in her room? Either way, Harun was there and he fought with such speed and skill that the conflict was over in a very short amount of time.
"Harun what is going on?"
"Two intruders my captain, don't know how they got in here. Just had a gut feeling that something was wrong."
"Good thing you trusted your instinct." When the crowd that had gathered broke up, Harun hastily left after Sunset thanked him for being aware of his instincts and trusting them." He tried very hard to to stare at his charge, she was sure attractive even when she looked miserably unkempt with her hair everywhere. 
The next morning Harun was in the barracks cleaning his spear, he glanced up and saw Sunset Shimmer's father before him. He stood quickly, "My lord, how good to see you. I assume you're here because of last night?"
"I am, and let you know that your family social status has risen a good deal. Because of your courage on the battlefield a few years ago, because you weren't properly rewarded as is our tradition I asked her Majesty Princesses Luna and Celestia to give your family rank and status among our elite. Yes young man, yu can officially date my daughter....unless you want orders to do so?"
"Thank you my lord, if I may why am I so favored in your sight?"
"Besides your courage, you reminded my son who died in battle after an invasion. Sunset Shimmer is all I have left so be good to her." Shakily Harun shook his Lord's hand. He nervously walked the halls to the front gate; he was afraid of meeting Sunset Shimmer at the moment. His hands shook with excitement with how his life was proceeding. From a poor man to a man with a father who now had status and land, that made him a nobleman now. At least in theory the newest life change did, but his manners need a ton of work to fit in with the rich.
