Turquoise and the others were now discussing the plan for escaping from Vale. Winter was going over the intel she gathered from Clay and Red before they returned to Atlas to warn everyone.

“ Alright girls here is the current situation,” Winter said before continuing. “ Right now the Iron shackles have plenty of troops patrolling the streets but luckily for us, we have someone who can get us to the docks safely.

“ And who might that be?” Turquoise asked before a certain someone Turquoise recognized came in from the back of the shop.

“ That would be me,” A familiar voice that belongs to Ruby Rose said.

“ Ruby? What are you doing here?” Weiss asked.

“ Winter asked me to come here and help you guys,” Ruby said.

“ Weiss, do you remember what Penny told you about Ruby’s semblance?” Winter asked.

“ Of course that’s brilliant,” Weiss said.

“ Would you care to share with the rest of us?” Rainbow asked.

“ It’s really simple. Ruby is capable of traveling at an extreme velocity from one point to another by breaking herself down to her molecular components thus negating her mass and then reassembling them at the destination,” Weiss explained which confused Rainbow.

“ It’s like your semblance but much faster,” Turquoise explained.

“ Ok, but how does that help us?” Rainbow asked.

“ Because Ruby can transport all of us in the same way as mass no longer matters,” Winter said.

“ But there is one problem. I can’t go through solid objects since you can’t have force without mass,” Ruby explained.

“ So what your saying is we need a way to create a clear path from here to the docks is that right?” Sapphire asked.

“ You got it which is why I’m going to create a distraction,” Rose said while wearing a hairband with cat ears on it.

“ Rose you can’t I refuse to lose you,” Sapphire said.

“ Calm down Sapphy I’m going to be just fine but you girls need to get out of here,” Rose said.

“ Where are we even going? The shortest route to Mistral is blocked off,” Turquoise asked.

“ That’s why we are not going directly to Mistral but instead we are heading here,” Winter said while pointing to a small island on the map.

“ That’s Menagerie,” Weiss said.

“ What’s Menagerie?” Rainbow asked.

“ It’s the central haven for Fuanus and also the HQ of the White Fang,” Winter said.

“ Won’t the Iron shackles be all over us there?” Sylvia asked.

“ Not to worry with the help of Atlas and the SDC menagerie has tighter security and a protective forcefield around the whole island so no one can get in without authorization,” Weiss said.

“ Time is short our contact is not going to wait forever,” Winter said. Everyone waited until the end of the patrolling guard’s current shift which luckily for them was now and it gave them a few minutes before the next one. Rose ran for the place where the guards would gather and kept the new guards distracted with a false tip of a rogue Fuanus sighting. Ruby used this change to grab everyone and take off in a fast-moving cloud of rose petals with multiple colors inside it. Five minutes later the girls arrived at the docks where an old man wearing a captain’s uniform greeted them before motioning for them to climb aboard his vessel. As soon as the ship set sail the guards were on their way to try and stop them only for Rose to stop them with a shield and sword. The guards all pointed their guns at Rose who not only made her circular shield spin but also project a massive force field.

“ Stay safe everyone,” Rose shouted before dropping her shield and fighting all the guards. As soon as the ship was far enough from Vale Sapphire looked worried.

“ Are you still worried about your sister?” Rainbow asked.

“ Rainbow,” Turquoise scolded.

“ What I’m just asking,” Rainbow said.

“ Listen it’s going to be fine you told us about your sister’s adventures with Team GRAP and how she took on a pack of fifty bio wolves single-handedly,” Turquoise said.

“ She did and man was that one quite the messy tale,” Sapphire said.

“ So how is this any different?” Rainbow asked.

“It’s different because this time my sis is on her own since her teammates were all killed in the line of duty,” Sapphire said.

“ Oh, we didn’t know,” Turquoise said.

“ It’s fine, to be honest, my sister didn’t tell me about it until two years ago when I found her crying over a picture of her and her team,” Sapphire said.

“ And what about your parents?” Sylvia asked.

“ They died when I was very little so my big sis was all I had growing up,” Sapphire explained.

“ Well you got us too and we will all make it through this together,” Turquoise said which made Sapphire happy.

“ I’m glad I found you girls Winter wants us all in the cabin to discuss our next move,” Ruby said.

“ Give us a minute,” Turquoise said. Later everyone was in the cabin of the ship listening to Winter discuss their plans for Menagerie.

“ Now listen up girls the reason we are heading to Menagerie is so we can do some training in a safe environment because at your current level none of you are going to be a match for the enemies ahead of us,” Winter said.

“ Did you forget how I killed Noir of Team SNOW,” Turquoise said.

“ That was nothing but sheer luck. She had you on the ropes until you acquired the power of the Spring Maiden,” Winter said.

“ Besides you still need to learn how to control and master that power,” Weiss added.

“ But who could teach me how to do that?” Turquoise asked.

“ That is where I come in since I am the current Winter Maiden,” Winter said. “ Just know that I won’t be going easy on you and you better not get used to sleeping in a nice warm bed because in the military we begin training at one past midnight and so will you.

“ Isn’t that a bit much?” Weiss asked.

“ If you want me to train Turquoise we will be doing it the Atlassian Military way and besides she lacks discipline which I’m going to drill into her once I’m done with her,” Winter said. Turquoise was beginning to feel a bit worried about that last part. Before the briefing could continue the captain spoke over the intercom.

“ Sorry to interrupt you ladies but we are approaching Menagerie so get ready to disembark,” The captain said.





Meanwhile, in the Vale Prison, the Iron Shackles were attacking the place just to rescue their captured members which included Stella Strings. While the freed members were reclaiming their belongings Stella decided to swing by a certain someone’s cell first.

“ You ready to get your revenge on the little bad wolf who put you here Raven?” Stella asked.

“ I have been ready for months,” Raven said before Stella undid the cuffs that bound her.

“ Good because our leader has a keen interest in you,” Stella said as she, Raven, and the others ran for the exit before the prison exploded.

“ Turquoise Schnee when next we meet I’m going to be wearing you like a pelt,” Raven said as she and the others left.

As soon as the boat made it into port and docked Turquoise and the others got off and were greeted by a man with black hair with a matching pair of fox ears and green eyes wearing a white robe with the new symbol of the white fang which was an animal head pattern with a ring around it.

“ Welcome to Menagerie, Lady Blake has been expecting you,” The man said before having them follow him. Turquoise noticed how the townspeople were all just going about their daily lives as if nothing was happening.

“ Why does everyone look so calm and collective when an anti fuanus group just took over Vale?” Rainbow asked.

“ Here in Menagerie, everyone is safe from the dangers of the outside world, As long as the barrier is still running no one can get in,” The man said before he stopped in front of a gate with the same mark that was on his robe. After entering the secret passcode into the keypad the gates opened. As soon as they went through the gates they saw a massive training ground with many white fang recruits going through various forms of training but what was most noticeable was a woman with short black hair with matching cat ears and yellow eyes wearing a black hakama with a matching shrug with a long right sleeve and a short left one. Weiss was happy to see this woman.

“ It’s so good to see you, Blake,” Weiss said.

“ It’s been a while, Weiss,” Blake said before the two embraced.

“ Girls meet Blake Belladonna the leader of the White Fang,” Winter said.

“ Belladonna as in Nari’s mother?” Sylvia asked.

“ You know my daughter?” Blake asked.

“ Sure do,” Sapphire said before Winter interrupted the conversation.

“ If you girls are done chatting we have important matters to discuss,” Winter said.

“ Right, While you girls are here we will be helping you improve your combat abilities since the Iron shackles are really strong and relentless,” Blake said.

“ We already saw two of them in action,” Sapphire said.

“ You mean Noir and Orre right?” Sylvia asked.

“ Exactly Orre can absorb and transform his body into whatever kind of substance he absorbs,” Sapphire said.

“ And Noir was able to change the state of matter her molecular components were made of but I already killed her so she is off the table,” Turquoise said.

“ And then there is the other two whose strengths and weaknesses are unknown,” Rainbow said.

“ The Iron Shackles top lieutenants are the real danger and you girls are not ready to face them yet,” Winter said.

“ We will begin training first thing tomorrow but for now feel free to explore the village,” Blake said. Turquoise decided to use this opportunity to show her team someplace on Menagerie that was dear to her while Weiss and Winter stayed behind. The girls were now standing in front of an old Japanese-style estate that looked like it has been abandoned for twenty years.

“ Why did you bring us to this dump?” Rainbow asked.

“ This dump as you call it was my father’s old estate,” Turquoise said to Rainbow. “ My parents and I would usually come here during the summer when I was little. But as soon as I started combat school my mom became too busy with her work as CEO of the SDC and my dad was always away on missions so we stopped coming here.

“ No wonder this place has seen better days,” Sylvia said.

“ I wish I could show you, girls, around but I get the feeling Aunt Winter’s aggressive training won’t allow me the time and it’s already getting late,” Turquoise said. As soon as the girls returned to the White Fang HQ they had dinner before being shown to a room that almost reminded them of their dorm room back at Beacon. Turquoise wasted no time in going to bed since she wanted to get at least some rest before she was put through hell. The time was now 12:01 am and just like Winter said she blasted a bugle like in the military.

“ WAKE UP YOU LAZY MAGGOTS AND REPORT TO THE TRAINING GROND BY 0 100,” Winter shouted at Turquoise and the others. As soon as they arrived winter had them run fifty times around the Training Ground which made them all moan in dislike of the idea. After running fifty laps winter had them drop and give her 100 push-ups. As soon as the girls finished doing their 100 push-ups they each collapsed from exhaustion. “ WE ARE NOT DONE YET LADIES THAT WAS JUST THE WARM-UP THE REAL TRAINING BEGINS NOW. And so for the past two weeks, the girls have been running laps, doing push-ups, and fighting Winter until each of them dropped. But Winter was even harder on Turquoise which felt more like a personal grudge than training. As soon as their five-minute break came Turquoise was furious.

“ I can’t take this anymore I’m done,” Turquoise said before running off with a trail of glyphs.

“ Turquoise wait,” The girls all shouted but were too late as Turquoise was no longer visible. As soon as the break ended Winter noticed Turquoise was missing.

“ WHERE IS THAT WORTHLESS NIECE OF MINE?” Winter demanded.

“ We don’t know she ran off in a hurry without telling us,” Rainbow said.

“ LIERS YOU DO KNOW WHERE SHE IS AND UNLESS YOU TELL ME YOU WILL BE TAKING TURQUOISE’S PUNISHMENT FOR HER,” Winter shouted as her eyes glowed with white energy. Weiss who was observing from a distance noticed that winter was about to use her maiden powers. The girls kept telling Winter the truth that they didn’t know where Turquoise was only to add more fury to her anger. As Winter was about to unleash a massive barrage of fire and ice on the girls Weiss’s arma Gigas stepped in to block all of it before disappearing as Weiss ran up in front of the girls.

“ This has gone too far Winter,” Weiss said.

“ Are you getting soft on me Weiss?” Winter asked.

“ No, I’m being rationale. Just look at yourself you are beginning to act like that monster James Ironwood,” Weiss said which made Winter fall to her knees and see Ironwood’s reflection in a water puddle before it returned to her own.

“ What have I done?” Winter asked herself.

“ We are going to try and find Turquoise if that is ok,” Sylvia said.

“ Wait I’m coming with you,” Winter said.

“ I think you done enough so just stay here,” Rainbow said. The girls asked around but no one has seen Turquoise. Just when they ran out of leads the girls then remembered the old estate and decided to check there.





Meanwhile in what looked like a child’s bedroom full of dust and cobwebs, Turquoise was looking back at the good times she and her parents had whenever they came here. As she was thinking she heard the sound of someone coming inside and hid beneath her optical camouflage cloak. As soon as the girls entered the room Turquoise dropped her invisibility.

“ How did you girls find me?” Turquoise asked.

“ You showed us this place remember,” Sapphire said.

“ Plus you left the front door open,” Rainbow said.

“ Oh,” Turquoise said.

“Any way we wanted to see if your ok,” Sylvia said before Turquoise broke down and cried.

 “ I am not ok, If anything I am the opposite of ok, My aunt hates me, My best friend is dead, and to top it off I now have a target on my back,” Turquoise said while crying.

“ Listen we know you didn’t ask to be a maiden and I neither did I but we have these powers for a reason,” Sylvia said.

“ And I can understand what Krystal was like to you, She was like a sister to you wasn’t she?” Sapphire asked.

“ She was the only friend I had since most of the people of Atlas still hated the Fuanus when we were kids. We even started our own Roller Derby team together,” Turquoise said.

“ As for your aunt, we know she doesn’t hate you she just wanted you to be ready for what’s ahead,” Rainbow said.

“ Then why not just help me with these powers instead of putting us all through the wringer,” Turquoise said.

“ Because your aunt is used to being a general than being a teacher,” Weiss said which surprised everyone.

“ How long have you been standing there?” Rainbow asked.

“ Just now and I managed to talk things over with your aunt so what do you say we all go back,” Weiss said with everyone in agreement. As soon as everyone returned to the White Fang HQ Winter approached them.

“ Sorry for everything I did. I just wanted you, girls, to be ready,” Winter said.

“ I’m sorry for running off,” Turquoise said.

“ Truth be told I have never been much of a teacher I was always a soldier who follows orders and your mother just reminded me of what Penny gave me besides her maiden power which was humanity and compassion,” Winter said.

“ I promise not to complain anymore,” Turquoise said.

“ And I promise to revise my training methods since the military approach failed,” Winter said.

“ Now that is settled let’s eat,” Weiss said. As soon as everyone finished eating dinner they went to bed ready for a new day to approach.

Winter was explaining to Turquoise how to use her maiden powers. Sylvia was listening in since she was a maiden too and her only problem was being able to use them freely without being in mortal danger.

“ Let’s start with something simple. I want you to try and recreate your bloody fang’s twin sword mode using the maiden power,” Winter said to Turquoise. Winter explained how the creation power worked which involved imagining any weapons you saw in previous battles and how this exercise was simple because it involved a weapon Turquoise was very familier with. Turquoise envisioned her twin swords and suddenly a pair of twin blades made out of black rocks with red energy inside formed. The edges of the blades were a bit jagged but it was a good first attempt. “ Not bad but now let’s try something a bit harder. try recreating someone else’s weapon. It can be any weapon you saw. Turquoise thought about all the weapons she saw during the Vital Tournament and suddenly managed to create a Hecate II made of Black Rocks with red energy inside.

“ No way isn’t that the weapon used by the leader of Team VOLT?” Rainbow asked.

“ It is,” Turquoise said while trying to aim it at one of the targets that were set up in the training ground.

“ Very impressive but have you ever fired one of those before?” Weiss asked.

“ It’s a sniper rifle, right? It shouldn’t be any more difficult to handle than a bow,” Turquoise said before firing which knocked Turquoise off balance from the recoil. The bullet which was also made from the same material managed to nail the bottom of the target.

“ That is no ordinary rifle A Hecate II is much heavier and more powerful so shooting one while standing is not advised,” Winter explained.

“ Noted,” Turquoise said before the weapon in question vanished.

“ Now I believe that is enough practice for today. You used up a good amount of Aura and you are going to need all of it for tomorrow we are going into the desert for our next training session,” Winter said.

“ Have you completely lost your mind? The desert is an extremely dangerous place full of the most dangerous Grimm you will ever see,” Blake said.

“ Exactly this is why Turquoise and I will be making this trip alone,” Winter said.

“ Why just Turquoise?” Sapphire asked.

“ Because we need to expand her arsenal of summons,” Winter said. “ A Beowulf and a Nevermore are not enough for who we will be facing.

“ Just promise me you will at least keep Turquoise safe because we can’t afford to lose her,” Weiss said.

“ You think I don’t know that,” Winter said. With training done for the day, everyone sat down for dinner which tonight they were serving Turquoise’s favorite. 

“ Tonight’s dish shall be a simple one,” The chef said before unveiling a slab of meat on a bone. “ Meat on the bone. Turquoise wasted no time biting into it fast which made everyone look at her with a confused expression.

“ Does Turquoise usually act like this around food?” Sapphire asked.

“ Only when it involves meat.,” Weiss said. “ She gets that from her father.

“ I don’t think she ever mentioned him before,” Rainbow asked.

“ I’m surprised she hasn’t told any of you yet,” Winter said.

“ Her father Fenris Yuki was quite the huntsman. Every time he would beat an opponent in battle he would claim their weapons,” Weiss said while remembering him.

“ I remember Fenris too,” Blake said. “ He was quite the romantic. Everyone looked at Blake confused. “ Sorry just talking to myself.

“ Anyway let’s not talk about it and eat before Turquoise decided to take our meat as well,” Winter said as Turquoise looked ready to strike. After everyone finished eating they went to bed. The girls could not sleep and decided to pass the time with some conversation.

“ Hey Turquoise can you tell us more about your dad?” Sylvia asked.

“ What do you wish to know?” Turquoise asked.

“ What is he like?” Sylvia asked.

“ He was a skilled warrior but also the best dad anyone could ask for,” Turquoise said. “ He taught me how to shoot a bow, How to fight, and most importantly how to always try and look for the positives when things go wrong.

“ Is he still in your life?” Sapphire asked.

“ Of course he is. Mom told me he was currently at the Schnee manor watching the Vital Tournament on tv,” Turquoise said.

“ Do you think we will get to meet him?” Rainbow asked.

“ Who knows but maybe when we reach Atlas you will,” Turquoise said. The girls were finally able to sleep after their conversation.





Meanwhile in a port in Atlas, a big man with red hair with a matching wolf tail with red eyes wearing what looked like samurai armor over a black shirt with matching pants was trying to find a boat to Vale with no such luck.

“ I’m sorry sir but at this moment all boats are to remain in the harbor by order of Vice General Galena,” The Harbormaster said.

“ There has to be something you can do? My daughter may be in great danger,” The man asked.

“ Sorry, sir It’s out of my control,” The Harbormaster said. Just as the man was about to give up hope a familiar blonde bombshell with a yellow mechanical arm approached him.

“ Long time no see Fenris,” The woman said.

“ Yang it’s so good to see you again,” Fenris said.

“ So what has you so down?” Yang asked.

“ It’s my family I’m worried about them,” Fenris said before continuing. “ Weiss and winter have not returned, Turquoise may be at the mercy of those Iron shackle jerks, and I’m just trying to find a way to vale to go find them.

“ Listen I just got some news about them. Blake sent me a message on my scroll informing me about their arrival on Menagerie so they are safe,” Yang said to Fenris’s relief. “ If you are that worried about them why don’t you come with me I just got my ride out of the shop.

“ Thank you, Yang,” Fenris said before Yang thew him a helmet. Yang pulled out what looked like a suped-up motorcycle with some added features. “ Fenris meet Bumblebee version 2.0. Fenris got behind Yang before she gunned the engine. Yang sped towards the water and then switched to hover mode which covered the tires and switched them with hover jets which allowed them to cross the ocean.





The next day Winter and Turquoise were at the gate that leads into the desert which was usually locked to prevent anyone from leaving the safety of the village.

“ Do keep in mind there might not be any Grimm in the desert and this won’t be like the desert in Vacuo,” Blake said.

“ Relax this isn’t the first time I had to fight off a ton of enemies in the desert before,” Winter said.

“ All the same just promise us you two will be back,” Weiss said. With the dire warning now out of the way the gatekeeper opened the gate and told Winter and Turquoise to hurry through so he could close it again. As soon as the gate closed a sandstorm began to blow. Winter and Turquoise used their maiden powers to push through it. A whole bunch of creatures that weren’t Grimm but were far more dangerous approached them. Turquoise began using her powers to create multiple blades that stabbed into the creatures before exploding and defeating them.

“ Where did you learn to do that?” Winter asked.

“ A trick I picked up from Sylvia by combining Fire Dust with the weapons I created,” Turquoise said.

“ Not bad you even managed to learn how to use the forces of nature too,” Winter said while noticing Turquoise flying with flames coming out of the bottom of her feet.





Back with Yang and Fenris, they were approaching Menagerie. Yang pulled out her scroll and requested access through the gate. As soon as the gate opened Yang and Fenris entered and then stopped as soon as they were solid ground. Fenris saw Weiss and ran to her.

“ Weiss thank goodness your safe,” Fenris said before hugging her.

“ Fenris what are you doing here?” Weiss asked.

“ When I heard about what happened to Vale I got worried and try to rush over as fast as I could,” Fenris said before Yang approached them.

“ Sorry to interrupt the reunion but where are Turquoise and Winter?” Yang asked.

“ In the desert training and working on expanding Turquoise’s summoning arsenal,” Weiss said.

“ Are they nuts? That Desert is someplace no one should be,” Fenris said.

“ I tried to warn them but Winter insisted on going through with it,” Blake said.

“ I swear that sister of yours will be the death of Turquoise,” Fenris said to Weiss.

“ Winter may be strict but she is also caring and won’t let our daughter die,” Weiss said.





Back in the Desert Turquoise was resting after using up so much of her aura in training and fighting the creatures off.

“ I think it’s safe to say you have a good handle on the maiden power,” Winter said while carrying Turquoise back to the gate.

“ So does that mean I’m ready for whatever we may face?” Turquoise asked.

“ Not quite yet we still need to train you girls in combat,” Winter said. “ Weapons, dust, semblance, and aura alone get only get you so far. Without any strength behind your attacks, they are all pointless, You get what I’m saying?

“ Got it,” Turquoise said before passing out. As soon as they arrived at the gate back into the village winter knocked on it and it opened. As soon as Turquoise and winter were safely back inside Winter noticed that Fenris was there.

“ What brings you here?” Winter asked.

“ Isn’t it obvious? I was worried about my wife and daughter,” Fenris said. “ Speaking of which why does Turquoise look so drained?

“ She can now control the spring Maiden’s power and has some new summons she can use in battle. But she used up most of her aura and is now resting,” Winter said.

“ Let’s take her back to the White Fang HQ she can rest there,” Blake said.

“ That would be best,” Winter said before everyone went to bed for the night.
