> Friendly Storms > by butboifranko > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Friendly Storms > --------------------------------------------------------------------------   Rain hit the roof of the cloud home, making small thuds as two pegasi laid side by side in a warm bed. Fluttershy, had come over to her dear friend, Rainbow Dash's home to spend the night. She never liked being home alone while there was a storm, so she would escape to her filly-hood friends and spend the night, and also some quality time between just the two of them.  Fluttershy watched her friend sleeping beside her, wishing she could experience the same but, no matter how hard she tried, sleep would continue to deprive from her. Fluttershy turned over to face the window, and watched the rain pour down the panels.  The rain reminded her of her first day of flight camp. Also when she first met Rainbow, and the first storm they experienced together...  *~~~*~~~*   "Come here Fluttershy, let Mommy kiss you before I go."  Fluttershy looked at her crème coated mother and leaned over to receive the kiss. Posey smiled at her young filly and leaned close to her ear, "Don't be scared, Fluttershy. I'm sure there are many nice fillies like yourself that'll be your friend. You just go with  Mr. Thunder and be yourself, alright?"  The small filly looked into her mothers emerald eyes and made a small nod. "That's my girl, I love you."  "I love you too, mommy."  Posey flapped her wings and Fluttershy watched her descend back the way they came. She turned to face Roaring Thunder, a tall stallion with a light grey coat,  a white mane with  pale yellow steaks, and golden eyes.  "Come this way, Fluttershy. I'll take you to your room so you can get settled in." Thunder explained calmly, as he began to lead her down halls until they reached her room.   "This is your room, Fluttershy. You get settled and remember, breakfast starts at seven-thirty, sharp."  With that, the light grey stallion left her room leaving her alone to settle. Fluttershy was more then nervous about the whole flight camp, mostly because she was alone and she was a very shy filly.  Fluttershy tried her best to not think about it while she unpacked her belongings and began placing them around her room, to make it a little bit more like home. Fluttershy took out a small stuffed rabbit and settled it on top of her pillow. Fluttershy turned around to go back to her bag, but was interrupted when she heard a knock on her door.  "Hey! Are you new here?" Fluttershy turned around and saw a filly, around her age with a cyan coat and a rustled rainbow mane.      "Um…yes." Fluttershy mumbled as the cyan filly began to make her way inside the room. "I'm new here too, my name is Rainbow Dash. But you can just call me Rainbow if you want!"   Fluttershy gulped and looked at the filly and made a small smile, "My names, Fluttershy."  "Sorry, what did you say? I didn't really catch that." Fluttershy made another gulp, "My names, Fluttershy."  "Oh okay, nice to meet you Fluttershy! Say, did you hear that we're going to be having a big storm tonight?" Rainbow asked, as if it was a good thing. Fluttershy's ears flattened and her smile turned upside down to a frown.  Rainbow looked at her concerned, "Don't you like storms, Fluttershy?"   "No…not really. I'm, scared of them." Fluttershy admitted, now worried the other filly would think she's a coward.   "Oh, well-" Rainbow trailed off, and Fluttershy watched her put her hoof to her muzzle. "Storms can be, somewhat scary sometimes I guess. Do you...maybe want to have a sleep over in my room?"  Fluttershy gasped, she had already made a friend and now they were going to have a sleepover. That is, if she agrees.   "That sounds nice, Rainbow. Where is um, your room?"   "Oh, my dorm is actually right across from yours! Which is actually really convenient."   "Yes, that is rather convenient. Um, what time should I come across then?" Rainbow tapped her hoof on her muzzle, and began to think again for a moment, "How about in half an hour? I kind of need to tidy my room up."   "Oh, alright I'll...see you then."  "See ya then, Fluttershy."    Fluttershy watched her unexpectedly, new friend leave her room and return to her own. She was shocked at how well that had just went, considering she was always really shy around other fillies and colts.  There was something about Rainbow, but she couldn't put her hoof on it. She had only known her for a few minutes, and she felt like they were already good friends. Fluttershy began to think that maybe, Rainbow was just trying to make as many friends as possible...to seem popular.   Fluttershy wasn't quite sure of what to think of her, since she had only just met her. She decided to finish unpacking and hopefully be finished by the time the half an hour would be up.  ~~~~~~  Fluttershy began to make her way across the hall to, Rainbow's room and knocked on the door gently. She stood in front of the door carry her stuff bunny and a pillow in her mouth, and soon Rainbow opened the door.   "Hey there, Fluttershy! Come on in."   Fluttershy made her way inside the room and looked around. On the walls there were a few posters that read, Wonderbolts and a picture of, Rainbow and two grown up ponies. Fluttershy looked at it for a few moments and looked over to Rainbow.  "Rainbow, is this your family?" Rainbow Dash came closer to Fluttershy and the picture and made a small smile.  "Yeah, that's me and my family. Do you...have a family?"  Fluttershy was a little confused at the question. Why would she ask me if I have a family? Doesn't everypony have a family?  "I have a family, but.. Why do you ask?"   "It's just-" Rainbow paused for a moment and looked harder at the portrait. "It's just sometimes, ponies I meet don't have a family. It's nothing, really."   Fluttershy was still unsure if that was a good reason to ask her such a question, but she decided to let it go. She looked back at the picture and took a better look at Rainbow's family. Her father had a red coat and a messy rainbow mane, almost like her daughters. Her mother held a bright smile, while Rainbow and her father seemed to be only smirking. Like father, like daughter... Rainbow's mother had a grey coat and a long black mane that seemed to rest over both shoulders.  Fluttershy thought they were a lovely family, based on what she saw.   "Hey, Fluttershy?"  Fluttershy flinched and looked back to face Rainbow, who looked a little confused. "Are you alright? You just keep looking at the portrait."   "Oh, um...I'm sorry. I was just, getting a better look."   Rainbow made a small smile. "It's cool, Fluttershy. It's just you've been looking at it for like...five minutes."   Fluttershy's eyes widened. Five minutes? "I'm sorry, Rainbow...do you want to um, get started with the sleep over?"   "Sure, but I have to ask a question."     "What is it?"  "What exactly do you like to do?"  *~~~*~~~*     Thunder roared, drawing Fluttershy out of one of her most cherished filly hood memories. It had been such a long time since then, and she remembered it almost perfectly. She didn't know if Rainbow remembered it as well as did, but if she didn't, Fluttershy would be more then happy to re-tell the whole thing to her.    Fluttershy closed her eyes, and began to try re-focus on her memories... *~~~*~~~*   Rainbow and Fluttershy sat on Rainbows bed that was covered with a dark blue blanket, and a fluffy yellow pillow. They had been getting to know each other better over the last hour, and both fillies thoroughly enjoyed it.   "So, Fluttershy. Have you ever actually seen the Wonderbolts fly?"  Fluttershy shook her head. "No, I never actually heard of them until now." "Well your missing out! Their so totally radical!" Rainbow exclaimed, flaring her wings out from her sides.    "From what you've told me...they do sound pretty, radical."   "You bet, Fluttershy! Maybe...one day we can go and seem them together. Maybe, after flight camp. We could go, just us!"   Fluttershy's eyes bulged. She would want to...go to a Wonderbolts show with me? "You…want to go see a Wonderbolts show with, me?"  Rainbow looked at her and chuckled. "Why wouldn't I, Fluttershy? You're the first friend I've made here, and you seem really cool!" Fluttershy blushed, "You...think I'm cool?"  "Ye-yeah, do you think I'm cool too?" Rainbow asked quietly.   Fluttershy giggled. "You're a pretty cool friend, Rainbow."  Rainbow smiled, and Fluttershy smiled back. She was so happy her and Rainbow had become such good friends, in such little time. I guess this how it feels... to have a best friend.  "Fluttershy, I think it's time to go to bed...it's getting kind of late." She looked at the clock, and noticed it was past nine. Did time really go that fast? It only felt like a hour past by! "Oh, alright. Where...do I sleep?"  Rainbow looked around the room and back at Fluttershy. "Well, there isn't a lot of space in here…but you can sleep on the end of my bed. Is that cool?"   Fluttershy looked at the bed. "Yes, that is just fine."   "Alright then." Rainbow got up on the bed and under the covers, while Fluttershy did the same on the opposite end of the bed. "Good night, Fluttershy."   "Night, Rainbow."  Fluttershy and Rainbow laid under the sheets of Rainbow's bed, both sharing the blanket and drifting off to sleep. Fluttershy had gotten comfortable and began to settle her thoughts so she could fall asleep.  BOOM. Fluttershy's fur stood on edge and she leapt out of the covers and fell onto her back, hitting Rainbows flank. Rainbow sat up and looked at her frightened friend and made a yawn.   "Fluttershy, are you alright?"   Still shocked, Fluttershy lifted her muzzle and looked at Rainbow. "I...just got frightened by the thunder."   Rainbow made a crooked smile and leaned over and pulled Fluttershy upward. "Do you want to sleep on my side of the bed with me? I don't mind."  Fluttershy was unsure of what to do, but instead of fighting between fear and courage, she nodded. "Yes, but only because...you don't mind."   Rainbow smiled and fell back onto her back and moved over to make room for Fluttershy, who shortly after Rainbow, shuffled back under the covers beside her.  "Good night, Fluttershy."    "Night." The two fillies began to get comfortable again and shortly after, Rainbow had fallen asleep. Fluttershy's eyes were drooping and soon, she had fallen asleep also.  *~~~*~~~* Rainbow's breathe was easy as Fluttershy's memory ended, as she smiled; ever so happy that nothing has changed other then age between her and her friend. She wouldn't know what to do without Rainbow. She was always there for her when things got rough, and when a storm came rumbling along, she was there for her. Rainbow would always be her best friend, through thick and thin.  Fluttershy made a small yawn and stretched her back quietly, before turning over and snuggling up to Rainbow Dash, as the booms of thunder eased down, and all that was heard was the rain.
