An Unusual Guest

Rainbow Dash really hated mornings. Even with the fact that she slept on a bed of clouds, morning was not her forte. It started with the sun coming up; its wonderful yellow glow spread through her house and conjured prismatic light beams all through the house, all directed into her face. At 6:00 in the morning. Every. Single. Day.

The fun continued when she decided to get up and comb her hair. Upon walking to the mirror, she attempted to mat down the wild brush of colors but normally gave up half way there. Then the brush came into play. With the combination of so many bright colors intertwined and, seemingly, acting of their own accord was enough to give her a head-ache before the combing even started. After that came a shower, some coat brushing and whole lot of hair spray. Only then was Rainbow Dash was officially ready to start her morning.

Swaggering over to front door, she took turns stretching her legs and cracking her hooves, readying herself for her morning flight. The Daily Equestria News was laying on her floor, probably the wrong day again. Derpy really had to start getting this right. On the cover was a photo of Discord looking rather chaotic, ravaging Celestia's hedges. Probably from last year, when they had defeated Discord. Almost immediately after picking up the paper and throwing it somewhere in the vicinity of the kitchen, the walls of her house darkened quite drastically and Dash felt her heart start to beat faster. A flight in a storm was just the thing to kick off a weekend. Checking that her wings were nice and loose and her hair looked decent enough, Rainbow Dash kicked open her front door; and was hurled straight backwards into one of her dressers, shattering the lamp on top and knocking her unconcious.

" Oh! I am SOOO sorry! I thought you were one of them! Did I hurt you?! Oh, no! Oh, no! Oh, no!" A little filly stood on Dash's porch in the midst of a whirling tornado, debris flying past her and lightning illuminating her flowing mane. Black shadows flew past her grabbing at her mane and face, their tentacles disipitating like mist upon contact. They howled and screamed like banshees, sucking all the light and warmth from the sky. She galloped forward into the house, her horn glowing only long enough to delicately close the door behind her. Skidding to a stop in front of Dash, she unfurled her wings and wrapped them around her in a tight embrace. "It's okay! You're are going to be all right." The filly spoke in soothing tone while her horn began to illuminate the area around them in a fiery orange glow, sparks twisting around her horn. The scrapes and bruises that marred Rainbow Dash's cerulean coat rippled and faded away, leaving a light sparkling of glitter around them. "There, there." The filly cooed, tickling Dash's nose with her wing-tips.

"AAAAA-AAAAA-AACHOOOOO!!!!!" The sneeze startled the filly who scampered away from the woken pegasus and backed herself into a corner, almost fading into the darkening cloud walls.

"Who's there?" Dash called, panic making her voice high and squeaky.

"I'm really dreadfully sorry, miss." Starlight spoke, carefully removing herself from the wall. " These things have followed me the whole way and I saw your house and I was going to knock and then the door opened and I saw a shadow so I blasted you, and-and-and PLEASE FORGIVE ME!!" The filly was in tears by now but what suprised Dash the most was the powerful blast of sound the filly had given at the end, not too disimilair to the voice used by Princess Luna.

"There, there. You're fine. You didn't do anything wrong." Dash said, slowly inching toward her. She had never filly-sat, what was she supposed to do with in this situation? Definetaly not panic, right? Should she panic?! Suddenly, she had an idea. "You know what's funny, the first time I met my best friend we crashed into each other and I knocked her striaght onto her rump. But now we are the best of friends, maybe you and I could become friends too, huh, how about? You'll be 20% cooler." She flipped her hair and offered the filly a hoof.

"O-okay." The filly sniffled, and took hold of the hoof with her magic and righted herself. "I-I'm St-Starlight."

"Rainbow Dash at your service Starlight, only the fastest flyer in all of Equestria and the only pony to-" Dash's confidence and voice trailed off as she finnaly took a good look at the pony infront of her. Realization hit her and she scrambled backwards until she hit a wall.

"W-what's wrong Rainbow Dash?" Starlight stammered, suddenly taking a very good look through the windows. The clouds were returning to their normal white but the occasional shadow still darted past the opening.

"Youre-your'e-your'e a" Dash stammered eyeing the flowing mane, the brilliant wings that put hers to shame, and the long spiraling horn that stuck up our of her forehead.

"A w-what, Rainbow D-Dash?" Starlight asked, a frightened look haunted her face and her wings twitched as if ready to jump into fight or flight any second.

"AN ALICORN OKAY?! A freaking alicorn!!" Dash screamed, hyperventilating and sinking to the floor, her hooves splayed straight out as her wings buzzed in a weak attemp to make her stand again.

"I d-don't understand. What is an alicorn, Rainbow Dash?" Starlight asked, seeming calmer now that Dash was talking about her and not those things outside.

"We need to get you to Twilight, and fast!" Dash rolled over and eventually pushed herself up, then in a streak of rainbow colored light was ready with a saddle bag and a pair of goggles. "Wear these." She commanded Starlight, "It''s gonna be a bumpy ride." With that, Rainbow Dash, fastest flyer in Equestria , lept off her balcony with an alicorn in tow and fell to floor at break-neck speed. A Rainboom echoed in the valley, followed closely by an explosion of light, sound and stars.

The Alicorn in the Library

Rainbow Dash didn't even bother to open the door. At the speed she was traveling, she wasn't even sure she could. Instead she decided to blast a giant hole in Twilight's front door, "I'll fix it later!" She yelled back to Starlight who seemed aghast that Dash would break such an ancient and powerful relic. "Too late, I guess." Dash snickered to herself.
The door splintered and shot into the library and flew until it was stopped by a pile of old books and a grumpy unicorn. The door (or what was left of it) was engulfed in a purple glow and levitated over to a nearby wall where it rested and started to mend itself.
"Dash," Twilight scolded, giving her an evil glare over the top of her books "that was a nice door, and now I'm going to have to spend this whole weekend trying to fix it." Twi gave her the best pouty face she could conjure up, but Dash wasn't having any of it.
"Twi, you need to see this." Dash stepped aside and pushed the timid alicorn forward until Twilight could see her.
"Rainbow, I don't have time for this! I tried helping Pinkie last week with the foals and I was terrible. You can't keep coming up to me with things you are too lazy to do. Unless you have a genuine concern, I am in the middle of an interesting text on levitation and its effect on psychology." Twilight sighed and put her head back in her book, trying her absolute hardest to ignore the rambling pony in the middle of the room.
"But Twiiiiii," Dash complained, stamping her foot exasperatedly. "She's an alicorn." Starlight smiled sheepishly and hid her head in her hooves.
"I am dreadfully sorry to cause you any inconvenience Ms. Twilight, but Rainbow Dash told me that I needed to see you and it is true, and, apparently, I'm an alicorn." Starlight seemed to whisper but the sound echoed through the room. The little filly sat on the floor and began pulling on her mane, stroking it with her magic. Her wings spread out and tightened around her body, the primary feathers meshing and becoming a solid wall of sparkling dawn.
"An alicorn!" The unicorn shot up and was up in front of the filly in no time. A purple aura surrounded Starlight as she was pulled up into the air and examined fully. The long wings extended and each feather was meticulously shuffled through, the tickling causing Starlight to giggle uncontrollably. The flowing mane was brushed and Twilight seemed astonished at the glittery residue it left on her hoof after she had stroked it. She whipped out a measuring tape and measured her legs and her horn. Then, of course, she wrote a list:

Extra-long wings: colors spread from white to orange to black like a sunset, and they almost seemed to be made of flame, each other wings curling in and causing spiraling colors.
Mane and Tail: Same color scheme as wings but ended in a darker black, both sparkled and glittered and were constantly flowing. Tried to watch one star in the tail but each movement caused them to change and flow, very tantalizing.
Horn: 2 inches longer than my own, even in a foal the horn is longer. When she used magic the colors fluxuate slightly and leaves a residue of what seems like glitter. (Pure magic, perhaps?)

"I can't believe it! We need to tell Princess Celestia immediately!" Twilight began panicking and grabbing as many things as possible, shoving them into her saddle bags. "Spike, get down here and take a letter!!" She ordered.

While this was going on Starlight turned to Dash and whispered, "Sissy's here?" Her eyes were full of excitement and sparkled nearly as much as her mane.

"Don't know, she might be.” Dash said, not really paying much attention as she watched Spike start to shuffle drearily down the stairs only to be bombarded by a pile of books and a stack of paper. The poor assistant went tumbling down the stairs, paper flying, and tail whirring until he bounced off the bottom step. Suddenly, the little dragon was engulfed in an orange glow the straightened his scales and collected all of the things that had been dropped, depositing them into his claws and released him gently onto the floor. Twilight whipped around and stared at the filly whose horn was starting to fade but the glitter in the air around her gave it away.

"Wait-what-how?" Twilight for once was at a loss for words. "That is advanced levitation. Who taught you that?" The lavender unicorn was staring at the filly, her mouth wide open in astonishment.

"Well, I w-was trying to tell Rainbow Dash, but then Spike fell and you mentioned Celly and, and it all happened so fast. You hate me now, don't you?!" Starlight stammered and then burst into tears. Twilight rushed forward to embrace the filly, but Starlight turned away and shied away from the lavender unicorn. "Stop! Don't come any closer! Please, I don't want to hurt you!" Starlight's horn lit up and a bubble of light appeared on the tip. The bubble expanded and grew, grew until it engulfed her in what appeared to be a miniature sun. Her faint outline could be seen inside but the light blinded the two ponies as they scrambled backwards.

" Twilight! What’s going on?!" Dash yelled, flailing her hooves, trying to cover her eyes.

“It seems that she's bending the spectrum in her vicinity, creating an impenetrable fortress. Incredible! I only learned about such a thing in the Starswirl the Bearded wing last month!"

Rainbow Dash shook her head. Even in the face of probably the most dangerous filly ever to set foot in Equestria, besides the royal sisters of course, Twilight could still hold a decent lecture.
"In English, please?"

Twilight deadpanned the Pegasus, only just able to contain her annoyance. “She made a shield of light. We can't touch her."

"So...... what are we going to do?"

Twilight looked around the library and brought back a pair of really old-fashioned sunglasses and a book. She sat down on the floor, getting herself as comfortable as possible, and passed Dash one of the glasses. She glanced at the bubble only to see that Starlight was still in tears. The unicorn opened her book and sighed heavily. "We'll just have to wait and see."
