Fluttershy is scared that Rainbowdash will leave her.

It is a normal date night for Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash. Or at least that was what Rainbow was thinking. But Flutters was very skittish. More than normal. Rainbow is about to hear something shocking.

Why are you with ME?

Rainbowdash knocked on Fluttershy’s door, awaiting her response. Tonight was date night. Specifically, movie night. It was Rainbow’s turn to pick a movie, so she decided to pick a comedy movie; she figured that way, both of them could enjoy something that was neither too scary or too cutesy.

Fluttershy opened the door, leaving only one eye showing through the crack in the door. When she saw her one year special some pony, she felt her heart skip.

Even though they had been together for so long, she still felt nervous around Rainbowdash. She could not be blamed, of course. Rainbowdash was a strong, athletic pony who was braver than anypony.

Fluttershy cleared her throat and let Rainbow in. Angel bunny showcased an assortment of candies, snacks, and drinks for the pair to enjoy.

“Angel helped me set this up.”

“Aww! That’s so cool! Thank you guys!” Rainbow pet Angel bunny on his head, leaving Angel’s leg twitching. The pair laughed a little, before taking a seat on the couch.

Rainbowdash set up the movie and Fluttershy had excused herself to use the restroom.

While Fluttershy was washing her hooves, she couldn’t help but look in the mirror and feel... Heartsick. She did not understand why Rainbowdash was so tender and considerate towards her. She felt like she did not do anything to ever deserve such a wonderful pony.

Fluttershy knew in her heart that Rainbowdash was far too loyal to her. She felt like they were too different. Too incompatible. She felt like Rainbow was too... Perfect to be with some pony like her.

Rainbow was sitting on the couch, awaiting for Fluttershy to return from the bathroom, but she hadn’t. She was in there for quite a while. She grew clutched at the fact that Flutters was taking so long. So she stood and walked over to the restroom, knocking on the door.

Fluttershy had felt stray tears fall down her face, to the point that it was obvious she had been crying. When Rainbow had knocked on the door, she was startled. She quickly wiped her face with her hooves, before taking in a deep breath. She opened the door and peeked out.

“Hey, I was worried. You were in there for a while. Are you okay?”

“Y-yes, I’m fine.”

Rainbow was not convinced. She stroked Fluttershy’s face, looking into her eyes with warmth.

“I know something is wrong. You can tell me what.”

“I know...”

“But?”

“But nothing! I’m fine.”

Rainbowdash laughed a little.

“Come on, Flutters. Even I know that when somepony says they’re fine, they’re not.”

Fluttershy sighed. There was no getting out of this. Not anymore. She looked down a little, pushing Rainbowdash’s hoof down as well.

“Alright, I’ll tell you.”

She then walked off to the couch, Rainbow following not far behind her.

When they both sat down, Fluttershy looked at Rainbow, feeling skeptical. She took in a deep breath, before asking the question that had been gnawing at her since they first got together.

“Rainbow? W-why... why are you with me?”

“Huh? What do you mean?”

“You know what I mean. You’re perfect. Beautiful, loyal, loving, nice... you’re everything I’m not. Even since we were foals, I always wanted to be like you. But I know now that I can’t be. I never will be. I’ll always be... just me.”

Fluttershy started sniffling, as tears began to shed. Rainbow felt her heart ache. She never thought those things out of her best friend. Her lover. Her...everything.

Rainbow grabbed Fluttershy’s chin and leaned in, kissing her softly. She pulled away before Flutters could respond.

“Look, I know you’ve always been... kinda meek and whatnot. I’ve known since I met ya. But I never at any point thought that you weren’t those EXACT things. You ARE beautiful, loyal, loving, and way more nice than I ever can be! You are a wonderful pony. A wonderful friend. A wonderful... lover. I know you can get down on yourself sometimes, but I will NEVER leave you. You are my everything. Don’t ya ever forget that. Got it?”

Rainbow then sealed her little speech with a peck on Fluttershy’s nose. Fluttershy smiled and hugged Rainbow.

The two of them then watched the movie, Rainbow falling asleep in the middle. Her head landed on Fluttershy’s shoulder, leaving Fluttershy a flushed face. But when the movie came to a close, Fluttershy looked at Rainbow’s cute little sleeping face.

She laid down, pulling Rainbow close. Rainbow snuggled up in Fluttershy’s chest, embracing the warmth. The two of them cuddled for the rest of the night, sleeping peacefully.

When they woke up, they looked at each other. Fluttershy was very red, embarrassed by her boldness last night. Then, Rainbow smiled and got off her. They’d both be lying in saying that they didn’t miss the warmth they shared. But they let it go and Rainbow left to go make some breakfast while Fluttershy cleaned up a little.

As Rainbow made breakfast, she saw Angel bunny standing in the doorway. He seemed to be holding something. Angel then hopped forward and handed it to her. Rainbow grabbed it and smiled a little. It was a picture of the two of them cuddling. She looked down at Angel bunny, him giving her a wink.

Meanwhile, Fluttershy picked up the remaining pieces of trash.

Rainbow finished breakfast, calling out to Flutters to tell her it was ready. When the pair sat down and began eating, Rainbow looked off to see Angel bunny looking at her. He nodded. So Rainbow slid the photo over to Fluttershy. She looked at her, confused. She then looked at the photo and blushed furiously. She glared at Angel bunny, huffing as he gave an innocent look.

When it sadly came time for Rainbowdash to head to her Wonder-bolts practice, she packed up her uniform. She then looked over at Flutters, smiling sadly. Fluttershy reciprocated. The two of them hugged and kissed one final time. Then, Rainbowdash gave a lasting look. But before she left, she gave Fluttershy the three words she had wanted to say for so long.

“I love ya, Flutters.”

She then flew off, giving a final wave. Fluttershy had a face redder than an apple. But she didn’t care.

She knew she had a long way to go before she’d be more confident in herself. But she knew that with Rainbow by her side, she’d find a way to get through it. She loved the colorful pegasus. More than anything.
