The only chapter.
“Good night Pinkie and happy Hearts’ Warming eve.” Rainbow said as she waved to Pinkie as she left for the night. Rainbow closed the castle door with a huff of exhaustion.
The party Pinkie threw for Heart’s Warming eve had been fun like most parties the pink mare threw but was tiring. But no matter how tired Dash was, she had a gift to deliver tonight. Thankfully Pinkie cleaned up all the mess the party made before she left, somehow. Rainbow didn’t bother questioning it.
Rainbow took to the air and flew her way down several hallways of the Crystal Castle to a seemingly random closet. She opened the closet doors and pulled out a lock box. The box was medium sized with a metal finish that had both her own and Twilight’s cutie mark on the front.
Rainbow opened the box and briefly looked inside. Rainbow had spent the last three months getting this gift ready for Twilight Sparkle. It was the perfect gift for Hearts Warming Eve. The pegasus had planned this gift out from beginning to end. Something she almost never did. But it was for Twilight so didn’t matter.
Rainbow smiled at the thought of the mare.
Dash hadn’t thought much of the unicorn mare when they first met. Just some nerdy mare she was friends with. Then things slowly changed during the first year that she knew her. She doesn’t remember when but she started making excuses to be with Twilight like crashing into the Gold Oaks Library to stay and help clean up. At some point Rainbow realized she had a crush on Twilight.
Then after a few days of thinking she flew down to the Library and forced herself to ask Twilight out on a date. Her heart had been racing more than any trick she had ever done in her life when she asked that question.
Then her heart almost exploded when Twilight said “Y-yes I’d love to.” It was later that Twilight told her that she had also developed feelings for her over the year they had known each other.
The first date had been a disaster as the both of them over planned everything. Rainbow didn’t want to get in to detail but The disastrous date had ended with the unicorn covered in some kind of wine. While Rainbow herself was drenched in champagne from a bottle that had detonated when she was trying to open said bottle.
Rainbow remembered the both of them just losing it at the bazaar situation and breaking down into laughter. They both had tried to get everything just right and it blew up in their respective muzzles. After that first date they had talked about what they wanted out of this relationship. Twilight didn’t want to stress out over being the perfect marefriend and getting everything just right so she didn’t go crazy with said stress, nor did Rainbow herself. So they agreed to just be themselves and be honest with each other. Neither of them could be happier with their relationship.
Then at the second year of the relationship Twilight became an alicorn. While Twilight had that sexy nerd look Rainbow loved. Alicorn Twilight was just fucken hot. Pegasi were naturally attracted to wings and Twilight’s new alicorn wings were the things dreams were made of. Those wings also meant Twilight could fly which allowed Rainbow to show her the ropes and teach her. Twilight wasn’t half bad either; she could do some good tricks too.
Rainbow moved out of the closet with the box in her hooves. She looked down the hallway spotting the door to the bedroom. She flew to the door and pushed it open with her hind legs.
Her and Twilight's bedroom was decorated for Hearts Warming like most of the castle. It had a small tree decorated with lights and ornaments in the far left corner, accompanied by lights that hung from the roof. The fireplace was lit casting a cozy warm glow over the room.
Twilight was on the rather huge bed reading a book Applejack gave her as a present today during the party.
Rainbow flew over to the bed and landed with a soft poof next to her fiancé. “Hey Twilight I have one more present for you.”
Twilight put down her book using her magic to put it on their night stand and looked at Rainbow curiously. “I thought we opened all the Eve presents, but I’m not going to say no. Especially if it's from my Dashie.” Twilight leaned to her side and nuzzled Rainbow playfully.
Rainbow nuzzled back against the alicorn with a happy humm as she stretched out her wing and layed the cyan featherly limb over Twilight’s back. Twilight did the same with her own lavender wing pulling Dash closer. Rainbow put up a token resistance as Twilight cozied up to her. The alicorn used her magic to put a blanket over the both of them and put Rainbow’s gift in front of her.
“Twilight please open the gift before you cuddle me to sleep.” Rainbow half begged her fiancé.
This only made Twilight giggle softly in Rainbow’s ear. “But you're so cuddly Dashie, How could I not hug you and-“ Twilight cut herself off by kissing Rainbow who immediately melted into the kiss. After a moment Twilight broke the kiss leaving a blushing Rainbow behind in her wake.
“Cheater.” Rainbow said back to Twilight who wore a smile causing Rainbow to gain one of her own.
Twilight turned her head to look at the gift. “Anything I need to know about this gift before I open it?” Twilight asked.
“No.” Rainbow answered.
Twilight lit her horn and opened the box. The box held several items, the first being two gems, one in the shape of her six pointed star cutie mark and was lavender to match. While the other was a red lighting bolt that represented Rainbow’s cutie mark.
Next was two gold necklaces, like her Princess regalia, each one had a slot to match one of the gems. The design of the gem holders was simple but was elegant with a V shape. With the gem slot sitting in the middle of the necklace.
The final items were a set of two gold colored fabric necklaces. Each one had a latch that let the cord open so it could be wrapped around the neck or something could be slid on the necklace.
Twilight used her magic to levitate everything out of the box starting with the golden cords and put them left to her. She levitated out the gold necklaces and put them to her right.
Then when she levitated out the gems she realized that they were enchanted. Not just enchanted though, they were heavily enchanted with a lot of strong magic. Twilight put the gems down in front of her body.
Twilight looked back at Dash with wonder. “Rainbow these enchantments are-“
“Extremely complex?” Rainbow suggested with a hopeful smile.
“Amazing, I have never seen enchantments like these before. I don’t even know what they do. How did you do this?” Twilight asked with curiosity in her voice
“I had help.” Rainbow pointed the golden cords and gold necklaces “Rarity designed both types of necklaces and Maud found those gems specifically for enchanting. Apparently those gems are really good for enchanting, can hold a lot of magic and have some kind of special property to them.”
Rainbow pointed at the gems with her hoof. “If you look really closely there is this white stone you can just barely see in the middle of the gem.”
Twilight looked closer at the red lightning bolt gem using her magic to bring it closer to her eyes. She spotted the white stone. It had small cracks that gave off a purple ethereal glow that gave it an almost alien look. Like it was glowing with magic or some energy that she didn’t recognize. The gem around the stone seems to have grown from said stone.
Twilight put the gem down. “So who enchanted the gems as there is no way you enchanted it.”
Rainbow nodded “That was the hardest part of getting the necklaces together. First I asked Starlight for help but she said she was terrible with making enchantments and somepony else was more qualified to help me. She suggested I go to Sunburst.”
“So I then went to the Crystal Empire and asked Sunburst. He told me that the gem could not be enchanted for some reason. I told him that both Maud and Starlight said it could be. He then pointed me to Cadence as she may be able to help me.” Rainbow explained.
“So I went to see Cadence and she was able to help by pointing me towards Starswirl to enchant the gem with what I wanted.” Rainbow rolled her eyes at the memory.
“Which was?” Twilight asked eagerly as she wanted to know what the enchantments did.
“In one second Twi” Dash replied. “So I went to find Mister Bearded, took a while but I found him. And he told me due to the two gems' unique properties he couldn’t help. Sent me to Luna.” Rainbow paused for breath.
Then she continued “I go to Luna and ask for help. She enchanted the gems as much as she could but said that the gems were difficult to enchant but she knows who could enchant the gems.”
Twilight giggled again “let me guess Celestia?” Twilight offered with a smile.
“Surprisingly no.” Rainbow said.
“Really?”
“Luna said Celestia would not be able to get farther then her. That actually Celestia wouldn’t be able to at all. Didn’t say why.”
“Then who did?” Twilight asked confused, who else could have enchanted the gems as it was clear unicorns couldn’t and nor could alicorns.
“Discord.” Rainbow answered.
Twilight just stared blankly at Rainbow.
“Really, He finished the enchantments and he was weird about it too. He first said that he was shocked that Maud had found the gems. He then muttered something about how choosing us meant something and the stone in the gem was a part of ‘The Gardener’ whatever that is. No wacky antics.”
“Honestly I think it was an excuse to cover him being kind.” Twilight interjected. This would not be the first time Discord had made some excuse to cover him being kind.
“Yea I think so.” Rainbow said in agreement.
“So Rainbow are you proposing to me again?” Twilight said with a laugh which Rainbow caught.
“Joking aside the amount of traveling and work you did Rainbow is amazing and I don’t even know what it does yet.” Twilight looked at Rainbow both Curiosity and admiration filling out her features.
“Do you want a list?” Rainbow said with a knowing tone.
“You know I do.” Twilight said with a smile.
Rainbow let out a fake cough to prepare her voice. “The First enchantment lets you know how close the other gem is to the other gem. So you can easily find me even when I’m flying in the air or off doing whatever. The second enchantment tells you how I’m doing. Like if I’m hurt or doing just fine, it’s also supposed to tell you if I’m sick but Luna said that the spell is inconsistent.
Rainbow booped Twilight’s nose with a hoof as she said “It’s also a two way street so I will know if you haven’t slept enough.”
Twilight blushed in response to Rainbow’s hoof boop and her comment.
“The third enchantment lets you talk to me from a distance. Discord said simply hold your hoof or wing on the gem and talk. Try it.”
Twilight put her hoof on the red lightning bolt gem causing it to glow slightly. “Hello?” Twilight said aloud.
The lavender gem started to glow but nothing else happened. “Right, I need to touch my own gem to start talking to you.” Rainbow reached out a hoof and touched the lavender gem. Twilight heard her voice emanate from the gem.
“Whoa that's cool.” The alicorn said.
Rainbow nodded “No more teleporting me scrolls or letters while I’m doing an Airshow.” Rainbow said jokingly. Twilight rolled her eyes playfully at Dash’s remark. “You know I’m more likely to just teleport to you nowadays.”
Rainbow raised an eyebrow “Even when dealing with the nobles?”
“Point Taken.”
“The fourth enchantment makes the necklaces able to be dropped from Cloudsdale and survive.” Rainbow said.
“So it’s durable.” Twilight commented.
“Yep.”
Twilight was silent for a second then spoke “I love it Rainbow, but I have to ask why all the enchantments. Not that I don’t like it. But why?”
Rainbow nodded. She had expected Twilight to ask this and it was one of the many things she loved about the alicorn. “Because I Love you.” Rainbow started with.
“I know that.” Twilight said.
Dash continued “I wanted it to be more than just jewelry. I wanted it to do something. Twilight you are worth more than just some pretty gem that hangs around your neck and we are going to be together for quite literally forever.”
Twilight smiled. “T-Thank you still by the way.” Rainbow smiled. “No problem I would do it again i a heartbeat but anyway what do you think?” Rainbow asked.
Twilight let out a yawn as she tried to answer, once she finished yawning she spoke. “It's wonderful Rainbow thank you.”
“Wooo!” Rainbow said with joy in her voice at the successful present. “Now I’m tired and you make a good pillow.”
“You do as well Dashie.” Twilight with a smile.
