Legendary Camping Trip

View Online

On a nice relaxing mid-late morning, Thomas was ready for his camping trip with his big sisters. “Are you ready to go, sweetie?” Fluttershy asked. Thomas nodded, and then climbed onto her back. Fluttershy then took him and herself over to the entrance of the Everfree Forest to meet up with the others. When they got there, Thomas saw his big sisters, Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle, and Scootaloo standing there, and went over to them for a hug. “Hey, little bro! How’ve you been?!” Scootaloo asked. “I’ve been good,” Thomas said. “Are you excited for your camping trip, cutie?” Sweetie Belle asked. “Yeah! Let’s go!” Thomas said, and he suddenly received a hug from Rarity. “Hello, precious. Are you ready to go?” she asked. Thomas nodded, and then Rarity walked over to Fluttershy.

“Are you sure you can take care of him?” Fluttershy asked. “Of course we will,” Applejack said. “As long as our sisters behave themselves and try to support the little feller, he’ll be in good hooves.”

“Indeed, darling. We’ll make sure he has a good time on his first camping trip and that he’ll stay out of trouble,” Rarity said. Thomas then hugged his mother before he left. “Thomas? Now you be good for your big sisters and listen to your aunties, because they’re going to take good care of you during your trip,” Fluttershy said. Thomas nodded, and then she gave him a kiss on the forehead. “Climb on, precious. You can ride on my back,” Rarity said, and then she lowered herself so he can climb onto her back and then he sat himself down. “We’ll be back in a few days, sugarcube,” Applejack said. “So don’t you worry about a thing,” Rainbow Dash replied. “Bye, Momma,” Thomas said. “Bye, sweetheart,” Fluttershy said, as the 7 went into the Everfree Forest to find a place to set up camp.

While their trek continued, Thomas suddenly got bored while he sat on Rarity’s back. “Are we there yet?” he asked. “Not yet, darling. Are you bored?” Rarity asked. “Yep,” Thomas replied. “I know, sugarcube. Once we get there, we’ll make sure that we’ll do something fun together,” Applejack said. Thomas nodded and then he suddenly fell asleep on Rarity’s back. “Awwwwww... looks like he was ready for a nap,” she said, as she covered him up with her mane.

Later on, they arrived at an empty wide-open space in the forest. “Thomas. Wake up, darling,” Rarity said. Thomas woke up and saw where they’re at, “Is this it?”

Rainbow Dash then showed him a view of a huge waterfall, “We’re right next to our destination.” Thomas looked in awe, and then he hugged his auntie. Rainbow Dash then hugged him back, then Thomas suddenly realized something. ‘Oh no! I forgot to pack a tent!’ he thought to himself. He then went back to the there, and saw them finishing up with setting up their tents. “Uh... can I help?” he asked. “Yeah, go ahead and help me get this rope tied up,” Applejack said. Thomas then When they finished, they had a nice picnic together with sandwiches, fruits, vegetables, and juice boxes, and then went to the waterfall and had a little race. Thomas came in first place, and then got a group hug by his big sisters.

Later on, as the sun was setting, they sat by a campfire and roasted marshmallows with sticks. Thomas suddenly felt uncomfortable about something until he got comforted by Applejack. “You feelin’ alright, sugarcube? You’re startin’ to feel let down,” she asked. “I’m fine, but I kinda feel like this camping trip is missing something,” Thomas said. Applejack then thought for a moment, until an idea popped into her head and she placed Thomas on her lap, “How about a campfire story?” Thomas nodded, and then the others were listening. “How about if I tell y’all mine and Apple Bloom’s favorite legend?” Applejack asked, as Thomas scooted closer towards her barrel and belly.

“You mean Rockhoof?! I love that one!” Apple Bloom replied. “Who’s Rockhoof, Aunt Applejack?” Thomas asked. “Well, Thomas. Rockhoof was known far and wide for his incredibly mighty strength,” Applejack said. “Wow!” Thomas said. “But he didn’t start out that way,” Applejack said. “He didn’t? Why?” Thomas asked. “I’ll get there. A long time ago, Rockhoof was a tiny little fella, and the son of a farmer,” Applejack said. “Yeah! Just like us!” Apple Bloom said. “Shh! I’m trying to listen!” Scootaloo said.

“They used to live in a village that sat at the foot of a gigantic volcano,” Applejack said, and then a flashback of the setting appeared. There were two soldiers fighting with spears.

“And the village was protected by an elite group of guard ponies called the Mighty Helm.”

The soldiers laughed after a fair fight, and another threw an axe at a tree stump with a target painted on it, until Rockhoof appeared and tried to pull it off, but he slipped and fell.

”Young Rockhoof wanted nothing more than to be part of the Mighty Helm.”

When Rockhoof got up, he was laughed at by the other guards, which made him sadly disappointed.

”But he was told that he was too scrawny and weak to protect the village.”

Suddenly, more soldiers kept laughing after they saw how scrawny he was, and then gave him a shovel and a noogie.

”But somehow, Rockhoof wouldn’t take no for an answer.”

Rockhoof looked into his reflection and then made an angry look and dug some holes for muscle building.

“Then, one fateful day...” There was suddenly a rumbling noise, and he looked up at the volcano. ”... the volcano erupted!”

“Whoa...” Thomas said, as he hid underneath his Auntie Applejack’s hug. “That sounds really scary.” Applejack nodded. “But this is my favorite part!” Apple Bloom said. “But aren’t volcanoes dangerous?” Thomas asked. “Yes, darling. But I’m sure Auntie Applejack knows what she’s doing,” Rarity said, as she next to Applejack and stroked Thomas’s hair and gave him a kiss on the cheek. “Can you tell me what happened next?” he asked. “We’re just about to get there,” Applejack said, and then she continued.

“The molten lava started to pour down the side of the volcano...” The Mighty Helm ponies were chattering with the villagers for safety as the volcano kept erupting. ”...and try as they, the Mighty Helm couldn’t figure out a way to save the village! They had to evacuate.” After hearing about their plan at the docks, the villagers shook their heads for a no.

“But the villagers didn’t want to leave their homes. They’ve spent their entire lives there. They had nowhere else to go!” The Mighty Helm took the boat for themselves and abandoned the villagers. Rockhoof watched as they abandoned the villagers they were supposed to protect, and then looked back at the volcano, and then had an idea. “So Rockhoof decided to do something crazy.”

“What did he do?!” Thomas asked. “You’ll see in a moment, sugarcube. Just wait and see,” Applejack said.

Rockhoof ran to an edge of the volcano and started digging. “He thought if he could divert the flow of the lava, he might be able to save his village. So he started diggin’ a trench!”

“All by himself?!” Thomas asked. “Eeyup,” Applejack said. “But isn’t that impossible?” Rainbow Dash asked. “Yeah, I mean lava is liquid fire,” Sweetie Belle said. “But it’s a good thing Rockhoof didn’t believe in the word “impossible” at all,” Applejack said.

Rockhoof was still digging, until some of the Mighty Helm and the villagers saw what he was doing. “He continued to work, knowin’ the odds were against him, but determined to push through it. Then, somethin’ magical happened.”

Before he continued, a swarm of magic appeared and turned Rockhoof from a scrawny and weak little colt into a full grown muscular stallion.

“Rockhoof got visibly stronger! But the lava was gettin’ closer.” Rockhoof realized he was still digging, so he used his new strength and rapidly speed dug the trench all the way towards the water, stood aside and let the lava flow towards the water to solidify, and then the ponies of the island cheered for him. ”Through his extraordinary determination and sheer force o’ will, Rockhoof earned more than his place in the Mighty Helm.” Rockhoof gave the Mighty Helm a group hug, and laughed with them.

“Wow... Rockhoof must’ve been very brave,” Thomas said. “Indeed, darling,” Rarity said. “Suddenly, a thunderstorm appeared, and Thomas screamed until he gripped onto Applejack’s belly, and he started to cry. “Awwwwww... poor little thing,” Rarity cooed, until she gently lifted him up and sat him on her lap and brought him over towards her chest and belly for a hug. “Shhhhhh shhhhhh... There, there, precious. No need to worry,” Rarity said, until she gave him a kiss on the top of his head. Thomas kept shaking as his aunt kept hugging him and he started hearing her heartbeat. Rarity then thought of an idea, “Thomas? You see this cave we’re in? If you look closely at those rocks...” she swept some dirt off with her hoof and showed him some gold. “...you can see flecks of pure gold in them, while others either carry silver or gems inside. And see the way the firelight dances on the cave wall, shadow and light?” She showed him a shadow puppet of a ballerina pony dancing.

Thomas softly smiled, but there was another loud bang of thunder, as he jumped again and hugged his Auntie Rarity tightly. “Aww, darling. I know something that might’ve cheer you up. Sweetie Belle, have I ever told you about my favorite legend?” Rarity asked, as she continued to comfort Thomas after putting a blanket around him to keep him warm. “No. I didn’t know you had one,” Sweetie Belle asked. “Well, her name... was Mistmane,” Rarity said. “You mean that old sorceress with the flower?” Rainbow Dash asked.

“Yes, but she wasn’t like that before. Did you know she used to be the most beautifully young unicorn in all the land?” Rarity asked. “Not really,” Rainbow Dash asked. “What was she like?” Thomas asked.

After Rarity gave him a kiss on the forehead, she started, “Well, Mistmane was a very promising young sorceress whose heart was a soft as a cloud.”

The setting took place in an Asian-styled village, where some imperial ponies lived. “She was as talented as she was beautiful and kind. Everypony loved her and missed her when she was sent to the finest magic school.” All the ponies gave her a few hugs as she left for her school.

“Wow... She even sounds beautiful and kind, kinda like you, Aunt Cadance, Twilight, Starlight and Momma.”

“Yes, darling. But while she was gone, she was delighted to find out that her best friend, Sable Spirit was crowned empress. She couldn’t wait to return home when she finished her studies.” Mistmane read the scroll a guard gave her and then stood up and left for home.

“But once she arrived, she was devastated by what she saw.” Mistmane saw her village removing of beauty. “What happened here,” she asked a villager raking leaves. “The empress happened,” he replied, pointing at her palace. “She makes us work day and night on her palace. We don’t have time to take care of everything else.”

“That can’t be. I know her,” Mistmane said worryingly. “She would never do this.”

“But there was no denying what was in front of her.” Mistmane saw a young unicorn colt running with a blossom flower, until a carriage appeared and somepony with a black cloak to it away. After the carriage ran off, the colt began to cry. Mistmane walked over to him for a hug. “Sable Spirit took everything that was beautiful away from anypony else! And Mistmane was sure that there had to some sort of explanation.”

“That sound really harsh. I kinda wish I didn’t go down that path,” Thomas said, while the blanket kept him warm and Rarity stroked his shoulder. “I know, darling. But do you want to know what happened next?” Rarity asked. “Yeah!” the four young ones replied.

”She went to confront her friend by going to her palace.”

Mistmane walked towards the palace and then saw Sable Spirit in her black cloak and wearing a black veil over her face, “Sable, is that you?”

“Don’t tell me you don’t recognize your old friend,” Sable Spirit said. “I don’t. My friend would never work our families and friends to the bone for something as silly as a palace like this,” Mistmane said. Sable Spirit got offended, “Silly? My palace is a beacon of beauty! Anypony who passes will be in awe of its glorious majesty!”

“What good is a pretty palace if it just hides the misery of its ponies?” Mistmane asked. “Beauty is everything. You taught me that,” Sable Spirit said. “What?!” Mistmane asked.

Sable Spirit walked over to Mistmane, “You were always the pretty one. You got to go to the best magic school. Everypony missed you, and they loved you! I admit I was jealous, so I tried to perform a spell that would make me beautiful as you. But... you can see how that went!” She showed Mistmane her elderly look, causing her to gasp in horror.

Sable Spirit then continued, “I then found that if I couldn’t have beauty, I would take it. I wasn’t chosen to be empress, you know. I took it! Just like I’m going to take everything else.”

“I can’t let you do that,” Mistmane said, as she was about to fight. “Let me?” Sable Spirit asked, until she made an evil cackle. She then sprouted some vines from her magic and covered it around Mistmane, until she fought back. Sable Spirit then created a red dragon construct, and Mistmane created a aqua blue dragon construct and then beat the red one, and then covered up Sable Spirit with roots, until the guards cheered for Mistmane’s bravery.

“Everypony thought Sable Spirit was defeated, and that was that. But Mistmane knew there was more than she could do to help.” Mistmane took the flower Sable took and planted it on the dirt ground.

“Beauty isn’t everything. But Mistmane knew that she does have the power to make ponies smile.” Mistmane lit up her horn and bloomed every plant in the village, until she glowed and turned herself into an wrinkly old pony. “She made a huge sacrifice to bring that smile back to her friends’ and family’s faces... including Sable Spirit’s.” Sable stepped out of the roots and saw herself as a young and beautiful unicorn mare again, “You did this for me? Even after I was so cruel?” Mistmane hugged her friend.

“Sable Spirit was so touched that she vowed to be more like her friend in the ways that mattered. From then on, she ruled with kindness and compassion.” Sable Spirit gave the unicorn colt from before a flower crown, and then gave him a hug. The ponies cheered for her new behavior.

“Even though she gave away her physical beauty, she dedicated her life to spreading beauty all over Equestria. Any time you go out of your way to brighten somepony’s day by doing something like giving them flowers, you’re following the hoofsteps of Mistmane.”

“I think she’s my favorite legend too,” Sweetie Belle said. “That was beautiful,” Thomas said. Rarity then hugged him softly towards her chest and then gently rocked him while hugging her nephew.

“Looks like the storm stopped,” Applejack said. “But it’s already moonlight,” Rainbow Dash said. “I don’t suppose we have time for one more?”

“And what is it you would like to share?” Rarity asked. “Nothing. Just my favorite legend, Flash Magnus!” Rainbow Dash replied. “Ain’t he the pony who took on the big, scary, and mean dragons?” Apple Bloom asked. “How’d he do that?” Thomas asked. “Well, how about if I just tell you?” Rainbow Dash asked. Thomas nodded, and then Rainbow Dash walked over to him.,“Umm... Rarity? Could you put him on my lap?” Rarity nodded, and then sat him on Rainbow Dash’s lap, until Rainbow Dash wrapped her forelegs around the small boy and then began when he nuzzled with her fur, “A long time ago, before the Wonderbolts were even founded...”

”...Flash Magnus was a lowly cadet in the Royal Legion.”

Two cadets gave him high fives with their wings, and joined the other members in flight. “And the Legion needed to fly over the Dragon Lands to get to their comrades on the other side. But as they got closer to the dragons...” Flash Magnus coughed up from the smoke, until they saw the dragons appear and started breathing fire. “...the dragons attacked!”

“Whoa! Whoa! What did they do?!” Thomas asked nervously. “Hey, hey, hey. Easy there, buddy. If you busy hang in there, I promise you and the others will like the ending, okay?” Rainbow Dash said, comforting Thomas. “Okay,” Thomas said, and he got back to nestling with her fur. Rainbow Dash then continued, “So like I was saying, Flash Magnus and the Royal Legion tried to get past the dragons...”

“... the dragons wouldn’t let them!” The dragons roared and breathed fire, and the Royal Legion was somehow terrified. “Everypony, retreat!” Commander Ironhead said, and then they all fell back, but Flash Magnus and his two comrades got thwacked by a dragon’s tail. “Flash Magnus and a few other cadets were separated from the battalion. He managed to get away, but the dragons captured his friends and took them back to their lair!” The two Legion cadets screamed for help, but Flash Magnus was about to save them, until Commander Ironhead caught him and they hid somewhere in the Dragon Lands to avoid detection while the dragons flew into the big cave.

“Commander! We need to save our captured comrades!” Flash Magnus said. I appreciate your loyalty, Flash Magnus, but getting past those dragons is going to be impossible. Nothing will work,” Commander Ironhead said.

“So did they die?” Thomas asked. “Not exactly, but if you can outfight dragons, out-think them,” Rainbow Dash said.

Flash suddenly looked at the cave and suddenly came up with a plan, “Commander Ironhead, I’m pretty sure I can outfly the dragons. If I can lure them into chasing me, you can all sneak into the lair and retrieve our friends before they get back.”

“Are you willing to take that chance, soldier?” Commander Ironhead asked. “I am, sir,” Flash Magnus said. “You do realize it’s a very brave thing you’re doing. So, you’ll need all the help you can get,” Commander Ironhead said, as he showed the cadet a bronze colored shield. “Is this... Netitus, the fireproof shield?!” Flash Magnus asked. “Yes, it is. It has protected many heroes of the Royal Legion for many generations. And today, I can’t think of a worthier flank for Netitus to protect,” Commander Ironhead said, as he gave Flash the shield. “Good luck, soldier.” He and the other two guards saluted Flash, until he saluted them back and then took off to get started on the distraction.

“HEY! COME AND GET ME, FIRE-BREATH! IF YOU CAN!” Flash Magnus shouted, until he banged his shield. “HEY, HEY! COME AND GET ME! I’M OVER HERE!” The dragon then roared and began breathing fire, until Flash blocked it with the shield.

“While Flash Magnus bravely flew for his life, Commander Ironhead was able to get his soldiers back.”

Flash Magnus then did some aerial maneuvers while facing off the dragons and blocking off their fire breath with the shield.

“Flash Magnus flew like the wind...” The dragons kept breathing fire while Flash Magnus kept deflecting it with the shield. “...faster than the dragons!”

The dragons combined their fire breathing and then Flash Magnus blocked it with the shield. “But he knew he couldn’t do this forever. Luckily, he had a plan.”

Commander Ironhead and the other soldiers formed a huge storm cloud out of other clouds, and then the commander whistled for Flash’s attention, until he and the others got out of the way. “He led the dragons straight into a storm that the Legion had planted!” Suddenly, lightning struck, and the two dragons got roasted.

“One taste of lightning, and then BOOM! The dragons retreated.” There was then a long pause for the Legion because they were wondering if Flash was okay or still alive. Suddenly, he came out roasted. “Flash Magnus’ plan worked!”

The Legion cadets cheered for him and Commander Ironhead gave Flash permission for him to take care of the shield, and they all saluted at the conquering hero, until he saluted them back.

“Wow! That was amazing! If I was like him, I’d show them that there’s more to me than meets the eye!” Thomas said. “You said it. He even inspired me to be my brave and awesome self,” Rainbow Dash said, playfully tossing Thomas up and carefully catching him in her hooves, until she ticked his tummy, causing him to giggle. “Ya know, he does sound like ya very much,” Applejack said. “Tch! Yeah! I’m just like him!” Rainbow Dash Thomas suddenly went to get some firewood for tomorrow as the others went to their tents to turn in for the night.

When Thomas came back, he still realized he forgot to pack a tent for himself, so he went over to Rarity’s tent, and then he saw her sleeping. He quietly got his pajamas on privately, and then he went over to Rarity, and got into her sleeping bag. Suddenly, she woke up and saw her nephew sleeping against her chest fur while his lower body was gently pressed against her belly. She smiled warmly, and then wrapped her forelegs around him, so he can sleep peacefully.

The next morning, they had eggs for breakfast, and then went over to Winsome Falls for some relaxing. “Thank you, Aunt Applejack for bring me,” Thomas said. “You’re welcome, little feller,” she replied as she pulled him over for a hug. “Now, why don’t ya go and have some fun?” Thomas nodded and the went over to his big sisters so they can play tag.

Legendary Sickness With A Cure

In the Everfree Forest, Thomas and the Cutie Mark Crusaders were in a small field filled with beautiful flowers, and a lake that had a small swampy section. They carefully climbed a tree and tied a rope around Thomas so he can get some flowers for his mother, Fluttershy. “Are you sure this is safe? It almost looks kinda dangerous and we could get in trouble,” Scootaloo said. “Possibly, but I think we’ll be fine,” Apple Bloom said. “Let’s hope so, because I think our little brother’s losing a little bit of balance,” Sweetie Belle said. “Almost... got it...” he said, as he reached out for the final pack of flowers. After he grabbed them, he gave them to Sweetie Belle and then she placed them in her saddlebag.

“Now, that wasn’t so bad,” Apple Bloom said. Suddenly, the branch cracked a little. “You had to ask, didn’t you?” Scootaloo asked. Suddenly, the four fell into the water, and then got themselves wet and covered in algae, dirt, and water. They saw the bag on a lily pad and then grabbed it. Suddenly, a blue daffodil with orange spots appeared and sprayed an orange mist at them.

When they got out of the water, Sweetie Belle hugged Thomas to keep him warm, but the suddenly were covered in orange spots. “Thomas! I’ve been looking all over for you, young man!” Fluttershy’s voice said, until she saw a bag full of daisies, wildflowers, and lilies for her, and then she saw then covered in orange spots, and coughing and moaning. Fluttershy shockingly gasped in horror, “Oh, my...”

Later on, Thomas and the girls laid on Zecora’s bed while she and Twilight examined them. Fluttershy was really worried about her son, while Rarity and Applejack were worried as well. “Hmm, I’m afraid they’re very ill, and it’s one that’s sure to make yourselves horribly thrill,” Zecora said. “Well, what is it?” Rarity asked. “It’s appears this disease so severe, is no other than... swamp fever,” Zecora said.

“SWAMP FEVER?!” the three mares asked in unison. “No! My baby’s too young for swamp fever!” Fluttershy said. Thomas coughed out bubbles, until Zecora gave them each a bowl of soup. “Is there a cure for it?” Applejack asked.

“I’m afraid I don’t know what to do, since the very last time I’ve heard of Swamp Fever, mind you,” Zecora said. “Well, according to this,” Twilight said. “There is very little info about the disease. Except its symptoms - change of coat, coughing bubbles, shock sneezing, confusion, and the last stage, the afflicted turn into the very trees that drop the disease-spreading flower.”

They all gasped in unison. “And a cure was yet to be discovered, which is something that can be done for such a terrible conundrum,” Zecora said, until she softly stroked Thomas’s hair. “Oh, this is all my fault! If I hadn’t gone with them so they were supervised, they wouldn’t have gotten Swamp Fever. I’m such a terrible mother!” Fluttershy cried.

“My dear Fluttershy, you are not to blame. These things happen all the same,” Zecora said. “I refuse to accept that! Thomas is my child, and there has to be somepony who can help these four sweet little angels,” Fluttershy said. “I can’t let my Sweetie Belle be turned into a tree,” Rarity said.

“Oh, but I have heard that there’s a healer of legend who never would fail. But I only know her from ancient folktales. Mystical and masked, she came in the night and cured everything from hoof cough to fur blight. What became of the healer, nopony knows, for she disappeared ages and ages ago,” Zecora said.

“The Mystical Mask! Of course! My parents would tell me about whenever I was sick in bed,” Fluttershy said. “Yes. However, there’s so many accounts of her power to heal. She can’t be just a legend. I think she’s very real,” Zecora explained.

“If that’s who we need to cure you, then I’m going to find her, and this time, I was wondering if you three would like to come with,” Fluttershy said. “Well, darling. I’m not really into swamps, but if it’s worth saving our darling children, then so be it!” Rarity said. “I’ll get some materials for us,” Applejack said. “Zecora, can you take care of them while we’re gone?” Twilight asked.

“Never fear, my friends. Since these poor souls are unwell, I will accept the responsibility that is quite swell,” Zecora replied. Fluttershy walked over to the children, and gave her son a kiss on the forehead. “Thomas, Zecora’s going to take care of you four, but stay in bed, okay? I promise we’ll make you healthy again. Just be strong,” she said, until Thomas gave her a hug on her chest and nuzzled with her neck. “I will, Momma,” Thomas said. “Now, you be good, and we’ll be back soon,” Fluttershy said, until she gave Thomas another kiss on the forehead. “I love you.”

Thomas then laid back on the bed and fell asleep, and then the four mares started to go over to Ponyville for some research. Sweetie Belle hugged him and Zecora let them sleep.

At Twilight’s castle, Twilight and Fluttershy kept searching for answers about the Mystical Mask of Mage Meadowbrook and what it looked like. “Okay, so we’ve look through every page, including the last book on ancient ponies, and still no mention of the Mystical Mask,” Twilight said.

“Hmm... Did we check the unabridged versions?” Fluttershy asked. “Yes, and the books on rare diseases, the books on rare plants, and the entire section on bog habitation,” Twilight said. “Well, we might have to look through the entire library, but I know we’ll figure it out soon enough!” Fluttershy said.

“Fluttershy, I know you want to help your son, we all do, but you really need to take it slowly and easy, or otherwise you’ll lose pressure on yourself,” Twilight said. “She has a point, sugarcube,” Applejack said. “Indeed, darling,” Rarity said.

“I know, but we have to try,” Fluttershy said.

Later on, they continued the search until Fluttershy found what she was looking for, “This is it! I found it!” Fluttershy flew over to Twilight, Rarity and Applejack to show them the pages. “I just found out who the Mystical Mask is!” The other three gasped with pride. “You did?!” Twilight asked. “Yes! All I had to do was cross-reference a book about masks with another book on ancient Equestrian healers, then use a third book to translate it all from Olde Ponish, and there it was! Zecora was right! The Mystical Mask wasn't just a legend. The Mystical Mask was Mage Meadowbrook!“ Fluttershy explained.

Twilight gasped deeply, “The ancient sorceress from Hayseed Swamp? We studied her at Princess Celestia’s school! Are you sure?”

“Absolutely!” Fluttershy said. “Mage Meadowbrook wasn't just a sorceress. She was also a healer, and back then, healers wore masks so they wouldn't get sick themselves! This could be the clue!”

“Fluttershy, I am so incredibly proud of you for using your research skills to figure this out!” Rarity said. “But Meadowbrook lived ages ago, and didn't she disappear?” Applejack asked. “Mm-hmm. But if we go to Hayseed Swamp, maybe we can find something she left behind! Something that could lead to a cure! We might be able to save the girls and my precious little one!” Fluttershy said.

“Hmm... It seems like a long shot, but I guess it's possible,” Twilight said. “But how are we going to get there?” Rarity asked. “Don’t worry. I've got a route all planned out, and on the way, we can stop for some supplies,” Twilight said. “All taken care of,” Spike said, as he packed them some snacks, books, and the map to Hayseed Swamp. “Thank you, Spike,” Twilight said, until she hugged the little dragon and gave him a kiss on the forehead. “Can you help Zecora watch over the kids while we’re gone?” Spike nodded and then he went with them to the Everfree Forest so he could be dropped off at Zecora’s hut, and then the four mares started their journey to Hayseed Swamp.

As they finally arrived at Hayseed Swamp, they saw a tree that looked like a house. “I don’t suppose somepony as Meadowbrook could possibly live in a place like this,” Rarity said. “Guess we’ll have to find out,” Twilight said, and then carefully knocked on the door three times. The door opened and they saw a thick earth pony colt with orangish brown fur, a braided golden yellow mane, beard, and tail, grayish purple eyes, a red headband underneath a brown fedora, a green tribal vest, a golden necklace, and his flank had a cutie mark of two cattail plants with a yellow spiral sun.

“Can I help you?” Cattail asked. “Is this the residence of Mage Meadowbrook?” Rarity asked. “Yes. It is. You’re welcome to come in if you want,” Cattail replied. “Thanks,” Twilight said. “So, what brings you here?” Cattail asked. “We’re lookin’ on somethin’ about a cure for Swamp Fever. Our sisters and Fluttershy’s son are sick with it,” Applejack said. “A cure for Swamp Fever?! Well, you’ve come to the right place! I happen to be a descendant of the mage anyhow!” Cattail said.

“You’re a descendant?!” Rarity asked. “Yep. Oh, forgot to introduce myself. My name’s Cattail,” he said. “I’m Princess Twilight Sparkle, but you can call me Twilight. These are my friends Fluttershy, Rarity and Applejack,” she said. “Glad to meet ya!” Cattail said. “Now, since you’ve been lookin’ for an answer for a cure on the disease, I happen to know where it might be somewhere written in one of her journals. Follow me, I’ll show ya lot the library, and one of them should have somethin’ that says something about the cure you need for the little ones you mentioned.” Twilight squeed excitedly, and then they followed Cattail to the library in the treehouse.

Later on, they searched through every journal for answers, but found nothing. “Ugh! This is hopeless! How are we going to find a cure for four young children, involving three fillies and a 7 year old human child if there aren’t any answers that make sense?!” Twilight frustratingly complained. “Wait, wait, wait, wait! Hold on a second. One of those young ponies... is a human?!” Cattail asked. “Yes. My poor little Thomas has gotten the fever and now we don’t know which page to find. My baby boy’s too precious to me,” Fluttershy said. “Hey, now. Don’t be like that,” Cattail said. “Let me see.” Fluttershy gave him the book, and then he showed her the page in the journal.

“Hey! There’s a backstory on it! Oh... but she didn’t say how she did it,” Fluttershy said. “I think it’s time y’all knew about Mage Meadowbrook and how she was lucky at curing something like Swamp Fever,” Cattail said. “A long time ago, Mage Meadowbrook was a young and talented sorceress, and she lived with her mother in this tree...”

Mage Meadowbrook and her mother were cooking an unsniffle elixir, and then Meadowbrook gave some to a chipmunk who had a stuffy and swollen nose, until it shrunk to its normal size. The chipmunk nuzzled the top of its head on the mage!s forehoof and then ran back to the forest.

“Meadowbrook, I think it’s time you had this,” Meadowbrook’s mother said, until she gave her a gift box. When her daughter opened it, she received a bird like mask. “My very own healer’s mask! You really think I’m ready, mother,” Meadowbrook asked. Meadowbrook’s mother nodded, and gave her daughter a hug.

Suddenly, a knock on the door was heard, and Meadowbrook’s mother answered it, and it showed a unicorn mare with splotches from Swamp Fever, causing the mage’s mother to gasp. “What caused this to you poor dear?” The mare showed her the blue lily with orange spots.

Meadowbrook’s mother called it Swamp Fever. She and her daughter, Meadowbrook have been tryin’ so hard to find a cure, but I hasn’t been easy... until it happened.”

The lily popped open and puffed out the mist on Meadowbrook’s mother, causing her to cough. There was another knock on the door, and Meadowbrook suddenly saw more ponies with Swamp Fever by sneezing electricity and coughing bubbles. “The fever spread like wildfire.” Meadowbrook’s mother coughed up bubbles, and it made her daughter feel worried. “Meadowbrook was worried that if she and her mother wouldn’t find a cure soon, everypony would be in grave danger.”

Meadowbrook put her mother in bed with a cold compress on her head, as she kept coughing bubbles, and her daughter would come check on her mother every second.

“I promise I’ll do my best, mother,” Meadowbrook said. “I know you will, honey. Just have faith,” her mother said. Meadowbrook nodded and then hugged her gently. “With her mother sick, Meadowbrook didn’t think she’d ever find a cure soon enough. But when she tried to examine those cursed flowers by staying far away from them, she saw somethin’ amazin’ happen.”

A few flash bees buzzed over the flowers as they puffed the mist from inside, and then Mage Meadowbrook saw a miracle happen, “Flash bees!”

“And she realized the flowers’ poisonous mist didn’t affect the flash bees. And if they were immune to Swamp Fever, then she knew that their honey would be the cure! Mage Meadowbrook then carefully followed the bees without angerin’ them, until she realized they had a electrical surge in their stingers. They would be so aggressive defendin’ their hive and their queen, she didn’t know how she was gonna get it! But somehow, she had a plan. While the flash bees were distracted, she took her healer’s mask and used it as a defensive strategy.”

“Here goes nothin!” Meadowbrook said, as she put the mask on her head, and then carefully tried to get the honey safely.

“Then, after makin’ a negotiation with the bees with the mask over her head, she got the honey, and was able to cure her mother...” Meadowbrook fed her mother some of the honey, until she and her mother, helped with the rest of the sick ponies. “...and then the rest of the bayou! It was the greatest feeling she’s ever experienced, until she made a promise to dedicate her life to curing ponies all over Equestria. But right up ‘til she disappeared without a trace.”

“Wow... Mage Meadowbrook must’ve been so courageous and thoughtful over sick ponies,” Rarity said. “Definitely,” Fluttershy said. “Do you think there’s a way we can get the honey safely?”

“I suppose, but I suggest using these,” Cattail said, as he gave them spare masks. “Then, let’s do it,” Twilight said. When they were ready, the five ponies went to the nearest flash beehive and then put on their masks. “Are you sure this’ll work?” Twilight asked. “I think so,” Fluttershy said. “My son, Scootaloo and both Rarity and Applejack’s sisters are counting on us.”

They all nodded, and then Fluttershy climbed up the tree to the beehive, and then she communicated with the flash bees by buzzing with them. They acknowledged her message and then she pressed her hoof into the hive and took some of their honey. “Got it. Thank you,” Fluttershy said. The flash bees nodded and then Twilight levitated her down. “Fluttershy! You did it! You used your kindness to get the honey!” Twilight said. “You were magnificent, darling!” Rarity said. “Thank you, but we’ve got four young ones to cure,” Fluttershy said.

Back at Zecora’s hut, Thomas and the girls drank the honey, and then they were cured. “Momma! I’m all better!” Thomas said, as he hugged her chest and nuzzled with her neck. “Yes, sweetheart. Without the knowledge from Mage Meadowbrook, we wouldn’t have cured all four of you,” Fluttershy said, as she held her son against her chest gently. “For now on, we’ll try to do things if we need or want supervision from a guardian,” Sweetie Belle said. “That’s a pretty good lesson,” Twilight said.

“Since it was a great pleasure for taking care of these four foals, it appears that they now need to get home before the night gets cold,” Zecora said. “Right. Come along, children. Let’s get you all home,” Rarity said, and then they left. But Thomas went to Zecora and gave gave her a hug, “Thank you, Zecora for helping us.”

“You are humbly welcome, little one. But I assure you that we may see each other whenever time comes,” Zecora replied, hugging him back. “Thomas? Sweetheart, it’s time to go home,” Fluttershy said, and then he climbed onto her back and they walked home together.

In the town of Ponyville, it was a pleasant morning. “Extra! Extra! Get your Ponyville Chronicle right here!” said a newspaper colt. “Extra! Extra! Get your Ponyville Chronicle right here!” He suddenly saw Thomas walking by, “Oh, hey, kid. Want a copy?”

“Thanks,” Thomas said, before paying the colt 3 bits for it. “Extra! Extra! Get your Ponyville Chronicle right here!” Thomas then went over to a bench and read it, before he was shocked about an article.

Meanwhile, Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie took a stroll around the town. “Ah... isn’t it such a perfect sunny day today?! I just love the taste of warm sunshine in the morning!” Pinkie Pie asked. “Yep, you said it, Pinkie. I just can’t wait to get out of the house, stretch my legs, and get a good old taste of...” Rainbow Dash was cut off when they saw Thomas crying at the bench. “Thomas? What’s wrong?” Rainbow Dash asked.

Thomas showed her the article, until Pinkie Pie read some headlines, “Wow. "New Shrubbery In Castle Garden", "Parasprite Infestation In Fillydelphia Eradicated", "Noodles Named Official Food Of Whinnyapolis", "Author A. K. Yearling Announces Retirement", "Cloudsdale Election Heating Up For Candidate In Favor Of Cooling It Down"...“

“WHAT?! Let me see that!” Rainbow Dash said, until she saw the fourth column of the article. “No! It can’t be true...”

“Because of the noodles being the official food of Whinnyapolis or the parasprite infestation?” Pinkie Pie asked. “No, this! I can’t believe Thomas was crying because the greatest author and secret pony adventurer of all time that Thomas loves to read from, A. K. Yearling... is retiring!” Rainbow Dash said. “I don’t want her to go!” Thomas said, as he continued to cry, but suddenly he was held in a cradle by Pinkie Pie, and he cried as he buried his face into her chest. “Let’s pay her a visit,” Rainbow Dash said.

Later on, Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie ran off to the Everfree Forest to check up on A. K. Yearling, and Rainbow Dash was flying while she was holding Thomas with her right foreleg as he buried himself against her chest so he can cool off. “So, A.K. Yearling just retired. Like, today. Are you sure she wants visitors?” Pinkie Pie asked. “Pinkie, the A. K. Yearling I know would never quit and retire out of the blue! Something could be really wrong, and we need to make sure she's okay! Plus, it’s making our nephew feel worse than before!” Rainbow Dash said. “Okay! Heeeey... Wait a minute... You're not just trying to make sure she writes more Daring Do books, are you?” Pinkie Pie asked. “Not exactly, but that wouldn’t hurt either. I just want to check on her, and maybe if we find a different way to make our nephew smile besides scaring him, we’ll find a way to make her smile as well, because I don’t think a party will work,” Rainbow Dash said, as Thomas rubbed his cheek on her chest fur. “Shhhhhh... Don’t worry, buddy. Auntie’s gonna take care of things. Just relax for a bit, okay?” Rainbow Dash said. Thomas nodded, and then tried to calm himself.

Suddenly, they arrived at A. K. Yearling’s house. Rainbow Dash then landed on her hooves and then kept holding Thomas. “Hey, Pinkie? Could you look through the window to make sure she’s in before I knock,” she asked. “Sure,” Pinkie Pie said, and then she gazed through the window for a peek. “Yep! She’s home!” Pinkie Pie said. “Whew. Well, that’s good,” Rainbow Dash said. “I-I-Is... Is s-s-s-sh-she okay?” Thomas asked. “Hmmmm... Awwww... She’s right there looking all sad and alone,” Pinkie Pie said, almost starting to cry. Rainbow Dash gasped, “I knew it! Something is wrong!”

“Wait, wait, wait!” Pinkie Pie exclaimed. “Now she's sighing with the weight of the world. Now she's hanging her head in utter despair. Now she's shaking her hoof and cursing the heavens like nothing could ever possibly be the same again. Why, oh, why did this happen to her?!” Thomas began to cry again, and then Rainbow Dash comforted him gently. “No, wait,” Pinkie Pie said. “Whoops. Never mind. That time, she was just stretching her bones.” She then chuckled with glee.

Rainbow Dash floated for a little bit, and knocked on the door 5 times, until she landed on the ground again, “A.K., it’s us! Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie! Your friends, remember?!” Rainbow Dash looked down and then brought Thomas over to the door. “Miss Yearling, please open up,” Thomas said with soft worry.

The door then opened, and A. K. Yearling appeared with a sad face. “Hey, you guys,” she said. “Hi, Miss Yearling,” Thomas said. A. K. then took Thomas from Rainbow Dash and held him on her hoof, “Hey, sweetie. How’ve you been?”

“I’ve been good,” Thomas said. “Why don’t you come inside? I’ll explain everything,” A. K. Yearling said. They all nodded, and then A. K. Yearling carried Thomas inside as she held him, but she placed him on his feet so she can continue packing her stuff. Rainbow Dash was horrified about this, “Oh, no. Did somepony ransack your cottage again and steal some ancient, mysterious relic that's the key to saving all of Equestria?!”

Pinkie Pie found an Anubis artifact, “Oooh! Sparky!” A. K. Yearling gasped and took it from her, “Don’t touch anything! They’re very rare artifacts!” She put the artifact back into the chest and then closed it. “And no. Nothing’s been stolen,” she said.

“Then is somepony blackmailing you and forcing you to retire? Cause if they are...!” A. K. Yearling cut off Rainbow Dash, “No. Nothing like that, either.”

“So you're just quitting and moving away? Why would you do that?!” Rainbow Dash asked. A. K. Yearling grunted with a sigh, “I already explained everything to the Ponyville Chronicle.”

“Oh, really? "Author A. K. Yearling announced yesterday that the next adventure novel in her popular series, 'Daring Do and the Curse of the Pharaoh's Tomb', will be her last. Yearling looks forward to her retirement." That doesn’t even explain anything at all! Don’t you even realize how sad this kid’s gonna feel?! He loved your adventures as much as I do!” Rainbow Dash said. A. K. Yearling groaned with frustration, then Rainbow Dash continued, “It just says you're giving up writing stories. But most ponies don't know that you actually are Daring Do and that the stories are real. So what you're really saying is that you're giving up being Daring Do, but you're not saying why!”

“Of course, if you don't feel like talking about it, that's A-okay, A. K.! As your friends, we completely understand!” Pinkie Pie said. “We just came to make sure you're all right. That's really why we wanted to find out what's going on,” Rainbow Dash said. “Please tell us. We just want to help you,” Thomas said. “If you really want to know...” A. K. Yearling said, then continued. “My last quest took me to a village in Southern Equestria, where I started seeing these.” She showed the three some recent newspapers.

Rainbow Dash read the first one, “"Wake Of Destruction: Daring Do Ruins Entire Village Marketplace!"”Pinkie Pie read the next one, “"Dare Or Scare: Local Rogue Daring Do Involved In Frightful Fiasco"?” Rainbow Dash was about to read the third headline, “"Daring Do Leads Bull Into China Shop During High-Speed Chase—"

“That's enough!” A. K. Yearling said with annoyance in her head, then sighed with a deep breath. “Sorry. It’s just that... Everypony I tried to help is mad at me.“

“That’s not true,” Thomas said. “They're not mad at A. K. Yearling. They're mad at your other half, Daring Do.”

“That’s not the point, kid,” A. K. Yearling said to Thomas. “They don't sell my books in Southern Equestria. The ponies there don't know who A. K. Yearling is. They only know Daring Do, and apparently she does more harm than good.”

“Well, I don’t think you’ve done this,” Thomas said. “And it's a good thing you look so different as A. K. Yearling!” Pinkie Pie said. “So all we have to do is go down there and explain to these ponies that none of this stuff is true,” Rainbow Dash said.

“Easy-peasy-cheesy!” Pinkie Pie said. “And we’ll help you,” Thomas said, giving the author another hug. “But that's just the thing – it is true.” A. K. Yearling said. “WHAT?!” the three said in unison, and A. K. Yearling nodded. “I guess I've always been so focused on saving priceless relics and stopping the bad guys that I never really thought about the mess I leave behind,” she said with despair. “Then you are in a tricky pickle. But why is all this happening now?” Rainbow Dash asked. A. K. Yearling sighed, “I guess ponies are finally fed up. Either way, I'm done with adventures, having or writing.”

“No. You can’t be done. You can’t,” Thomas said with a crying tone, hugging her leg once more. “Come on! For every one pony who's upset, there must be at least a hundred that know you're a hero!” Rainbow Dash said. “I don’t think so, Dash,” A. K. Yearling said. “But there has to be!” Thomas said. “I know you’re innocent! I swear!” He then continued to cry, until A. K. turned herself around and wrapped her foreleg around him for a hug.

“Well, why don't we go visit this village "Som...nam...bu...la" and see for ourselves?” Rainbow Dash asked. “Those articles seem to make it pretty clear how the villagers feel,” A. K. Yearling said. “But if we go there, the ponies can tell you in person just how much they appreciate you,” Thomas said. “Yeah! It’ll be fun!” Pinkie Pie said. “You really think so?” A. K. Yearling asked. “We know so! Let’s go!” Rainbow Dash said. “Wait! I need to stop at my house and pack a few things, and I should ask my momma first,” Thomas said. “Probably a good idea. When you’re ready, meet me at the train station later,” A. K. Yearling said. They nodded and then Rainbow Dash, Thomas and Pinkie Pie went over to Fluttershy’s cottage to ask her.

When they entered the door, Thomas went over to Fluttershy for a quick hug. “Hey, Momma,” Thomas said. “What’s wrong, sweetheart?” Fluttershy asked. “A. K. Yearling’s retiring, and it’s hurting your son,” Rainbow Dash said. “Something about Daring Do being framed for some kind of crime in Southern Equestria.”

“Aww... How awful,” Fluttershy said. “Momma, can I go with? Please? I wanna help,” Thomas said, giving her the puppy eyes. Fluttershy smiled warmly and then she leaned her head down to give him a kiss on the forehead, “Yes, you may.” Thomas made a squee and then he ran upstairs to pack his bags.

“Are you sure you and Pinkie can take care of him during your adventure with A. K. Yearling, who is actually Daring Do? Was he any trouble with her?” Fluttershy asked. “Not really. Last time he met her, her arch nemesis, Dr. Caballeron captured him and used him as bait to lure Daring to the Temple of Chicomoztoc, but she was lucky enough to help me save him and bring both the Seven-Sided Chest of Chicomoztoc and your son back safe and sound. He even solved a puzzle with the doors one time,” Rainbow Dash explained. “Oh. Well, I’m glad,” Fluttershy said. “And don’t worry. We’ll make sure to protect him if it happens again,” Rainbow Dash said. “Okay, but please make sure he doesn’t get hurt,” Fluttershy said. Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie both nodded, and then they saw Thomas with his stuff for the trip, which consisted a small suitcase, and his travel bag. “I’m ready,” Thomas said.

Later on, they met A.K. Yearling at the train station and then took it over to Somnambula. When they arrived, it was a peaceful desert town. Thomas saw stores, and lots of homes, and up ahead, he saw a statue of a pegasus mare wearing Egyptian clothing, and a giant temple that looked like a pyramid.

“This almost reminds me of Egypt back in my world,” Thomas said. “Your version of this place is called Egypt?” Rainbow Dash asked. Thomas nodded, and then Rainbow Dash spoke up, “Cool.”

Rainbow Dash then squealed, “This is so cool! It looks just like that village in your last book where Daring Do recovers the Doomed Diadem from the Wild Bunch Gang who chase after her through the desert!” A. K. Yearling smirked, “It should. I based that entire chapter on my experiences here in Somnambula.” Pinkie Pie zoomed next to her, “What happens? No, wait, don't tell me. I changed my mind! Tell me!”

“Daring Do thwarts Ahuizotl's evil plot to separate the Sister Crown Relics,” Rainbow Dash said. “And if it wasn't for her, the region would be cursed with eternal night, and the entire town of Somnambula would have sunk into the ground!”

“Ah, puh!” Pinkie Pie said. “There's no chance that these ponies don't think you're a hero.” Thomas pointed at the sight he was seeing.

They then saw some ponies repairing their things, and selling a few things. Rainbow Dash and the other three went over to an elderly earth pony colt with grayish amber fur, a grayish streaked red mane and tail with a small beard, blue eyes, a white shirt with a brown vest, an orange headband, and his flank had a cutie mark of an apple with a purple lily. His name was Cortland. “Excuse me, sir? What happened here?” Rainbow Dash asked. “Well, Daring Do happened,” Cortland said. “What?! But that’s impossible! She never could’ve done this!” Rainbow Dash said. Thomas hid underneath A. K. Yearling’s cloak and hugged her leg as she comforted him by stroking his hands and fingers with her hoof as he softly stroked the fur on her leg.

“Oh, no? Well, read it and weep!” Cortland said. “P-P-Please, sir. Daring Do never would’ve done this. She’s was probably being framed,” Thomas said. “How could you even say some uncool things in front of a little kid like him?! He has a sensitive heart, and he cares for Daring Do!” Rainbow Dash said. “Well, indeed, my friend,” said a stranger in a male Mexican accent. He wore a brown cloak over him. “Daring Do is a menace who destroys everything she touches! I mean, look around! Is this what a hero would do?!” The ponies argued in agreement. “What?! No! Daring Do is the exact opposite of a menace!” Rainbow Dash said. “She’s a real hero, and you know it!” Thomas said. “Ugh! I tried to tell you! Coming back here was a mistake!” A. K. Yearling said, as she walked away. “Wait!” Thomas shouted. A. K. Yearling turned around and looked at him, “What is it?”

“Where are we gonna sleep?” Thomas asked. “Hmm... I think I know the one place, but I don’t know if they’ll accept me because of my other half,” A. K. Yearling said. “Well, we can tell them you’re just from Manehattan who’s visiting this place for a vacation,” Pinkie Pie said. “You know. That’s not a bad idea,” A. K. Yearling said, as she led her friends to the hotel, which was somewhere nearby and a little bit far from the village.

“Look. You see that right there?” A. K. Yearling asked, pointing at the hotel. “It's called the Get On Inn. I stay here all the time in my adventures as Daring Do.”

“Which means there must be ponies here who love Daring Do! Maybe they can help us,” Rainbow Dash said. “I don’t know, but it’s worth a try,” Thomas said, as he was riding on A. K. Yearling’s back. “Don’t worry. I’ve got it covered,” A. K. Yearling said, and then they continued. As they entered the building, they saw a mare named Mrs. Trotsworth at the check-in desk. “Excuse me, ma’am? Can I check in for a room of four, please?” A. K. Yearling asked. Mrs. Trotsworth looked at her, and then when she saw the three of them, Rainbow Dash pointed down, until Mrs. Trotsworth looked over and saw Thomas hiding behind A. K.’s leg, and then Mrs. Trotsworth confirmed the check in, “Okay, I’m booking you to the third floor. Now, enjoy your stay.”

“Umm, ma’am. I know you’re going to be angry about it, but is it true Daring Do stays here?” Thomas asked. “Not anymore, she doesn’t!” Mrs. Trotsworth replied angrily. “But why? She’s a good pony like you are,” Thomas said. “The last time I rented that rascal a room, she was in such a rush to hightail it outta here, she didn't even pay her bill!” Mrs. Trotsworth replied. “After that, a band of ruffians showed up and destroyed half the rooms looking for her. Guess she made them even more mad than she made me!”

“No! You’re wrong! Daring Do’s a hero!” Thomas said. “And how do you figure, young man?” Mrs. Trotsworth asked. “Because I was once in one of her adventures, and she saved my life. I got to say thank you that time,” Thomas said. “She’s got a good heart.”

“Sounds like a tall tale to me. And a hard one to believe, now that I know Daring Do is a scoundrel and a thief! Every year, ponies come to offer precious glowpaz to the Somnambula statue in the village in hopes for a good future. Why, that poor fella had his glowpaz necklace stolen by Daring Do just yesterday!” Mrs. Trotsworth replied. Thomas then began to cry, until he was lifted up by Rainbow Dash. “You better think about what you said to our nephew, because you don’t ever talk to him that way! Ever!” she said, and then she, Pinkie Pie and A. K. Yearling went to go sit down at a table. A. K. Yearling took Thomas and held him with both hooves in a cradle to calm him down.

“Daring Do ruined our town and stole our precious glowpaz! We need to make sure that if she turns up again, there will be consequences! Everypony who's with me, meet at the statue tomorrow!” the cloaked stallion said, as the townsponies agreed with comments.

“The nerve of that pony! Just who does he think he is?!” Rainbow Dash asked. A. K. Yearling sighed with sadness as she sat Thomas on her lap and comforted him with a hug, “Now I'm getting blamed for things I didn't even do? Why would I steal from them?”

“I still know you’re innocent! I just do!” Thomas said, as he buried his face in her chest. “They are super bad! But we're still staying the night, right?” Pinkie Pie asked. “Yes, Pinkie, we’re staying for the night,” A. K. Yearling said. “But since this poor boy’s suffering so much from recent news, he’s sleeping with me tonight.” Thomas nodded and then continued to cry softly, until he softly yawned with tiredness in his eyes. “Gosh, is it late already?” A. K. Yearling asked. “Listen, A. K. After a good night's sleep, we're going to fix all of this. I promise,” Rainbow Dash said. A. K. Yearling nodded in agreement, and then later on, they tucked Thomas into bed, and then got ready for bed.

The next day, the ponies met the cloaked stranger at the statue. “I shouldn't be here, Rainbow Dash. This is never gonna work,” A. K. Yearling said, as Thomas rode on her back. Rainbow Dash scoffed, “Of course it will! All I have to do is go up there and explain to everypony how wrong they all are.”

“Yeah! And then I'll be like, "What she said!" Well, you know,” Pinkie Pie said. A. K. Yearling sighed, “Easy-peasy-cheesy...”

“Exactly!” Pinkie Pie said. “Mind if I join in?” Thomas asked. “Be my guest!” Rainbow Dash said, as she carefully placed him onto her back and went over to the statue. “Here it is! Your — Our beloved Somnambula statue! Now that Daring Do has destroyed it, tell me, where will we hang our glowpaz?” the cloaked stranger asked. “We don't even have any glowpaz because they were stolen by Daring Do!” said a random villager. “But why is it rebuilt now if it was recently destroyed?” asked another villager. “What?!” asked the cloaked stranger, as he saw the statue back in its normal self. “Everybody STOP!” Thomas said, and then they saw him and Rainbow Dash walk up. “Listen to me! Daring Do would never steal anything! And okay, she destroyed your statue, but it was because she was trying to save you all from Ahuizotl! You know! He's about yea big? Long neck? Itty-bitty face? Weird claw thingy on his tail?” she explained. “Ooh! Ooh! I know him! He’s a real baddie!” Pinkie Pie said. “And she saved my life from a giant crocodile in the Temple of Chicomoztoc after I was taken by Dr. Caballeron on purpose!” Thomas said. “Would Daring Do ever steal anything from you?! No!”

“What are you saying, kid?” asked another villager. “I’m the one that rebuilt the statue! I barely even slept afterwards, but that’s okay!”

“Trust me, if Ahuizotl had gotten away with the Doomed Diadem, your entire village would have been swallowed up!” Rainbow Dash said. “Aunt Rainbow Dash is right! You all ought to be ashamed of yourselves thinking someone as heroic like Daring Do would steal everything from you! Well, she wouldn’t! Because Daring Do saved my life, and I’m grateful!” Thomas said. “And I care, and so would you!”

“See what I mean? If this so-called “Somnambula” were here, she’d forgive Daring Do and accept her apology if Daring ever helped rebuild the statue,” Rainbow Dash said. “But if Somnambula were here, she would condemn Daring Do for destroying your– our symbol of hope!“ said the cloaked stranger. The ponies then argued and walked away, until the stranger walked away as well.

Thomas sat near a building in sadness, crying about the villagers disagreeing with him. “What’s troubling you, son?” a voice said. He turned around and saw Cortland. “I don’t know why you’re so angry at Daring Do for destroying your statue, but she was only trying to protect you. She even saved my life,” Thomas said. “It’s just not fair, after I did to help fix the statue.”

“Aww... poor dear,” said a mare, giving the poor boy a hug. Thomas suddenly looked at the statue, “Who does that statue represent?”

“This sacred statue is the namesake of our town,” Cortland said. “But if you want to understand us, you must first understand her.”

“Who’s her?” Thomas asked. “She goes by the name that is also the name of our town, Somnambula,” Cortland said. “Is she another legend?” Thomas asked. “Yes, she is,” Cortland said. “Long ago...”

“...this village fell prey to an evil Sphinx who demanded most of their crops. Like her fellow villagers, Somnambula didn't have much, but she used what she had to keep others from giving up hope. The son of the Pharaoh, Prince Hisan, was so moved by her compassion that he decreed nopony would go hungry again. But when Hisan stood up to the Sphinx, the beast captured him, telling the Pharaoh the only way to get Hisan back was to solve her riddle. Nopony would volunteer to save the prince. Nopony except Somnambula.”

Somnambula flew to the pyramid, where the Sphinx held Hisan captive, and then landed on the ground to confront the beast.

”The Sphinx gave her the riddle.”

"I shine brightest in the dark. I am there but cannot be seen. To have me costs you nothing. To be without me costs you everything," The Sphinx said. ”As Somnambula thought of the hardship she and her fellow villagers had experienced, she instantly knew the answer.” "Hope!", she shouted.

The Sphinx roared with anger, and then stomped her paws on the ground.

“The Sphinx was so enraged, it seemed she might still refuse to release the prince, so Somnambula asked her for one more challenge. But if she accomplished it, the Sphinx would leave from the kingdom forever. The Sphinx quickly agreed, asking only that Somnambula walk to the prince across a deep chasm... blindfolded! Further, the Sphinx had cast a powerful spell that prevented Somnambula from flying.”

The Sphinx laughed evilly at what she did to Somnambula, as she pushed her over the bridge.

“But Somnambula never lost hope! She knew she'd need to make a leap of faith to save the prince. Guided by the sound of the prince's voice... she easily made it across.”

The Sphinx got angry again and then flew away to never return. Somnambula then freed Prince Hisan from the capture and then he removed the blindfold from her eyes.

“The Pharaoh asked how Somnambula prevailed, and she explained that she had always hoped she could make things better for her people and that hope had carried her through. The Prince replaced the pearls Somnambula gave up with a string of glowpaz. And around her neck, they glowed bright enough to light the entire kingdom.”

“Forever after, glowpaz became our symbolic jewelry of hope,” Cortland finished. “Wow... I had no idea how special the statue is. Somnambula sounds like a pretty compassionate pony. So what happened to her then?” Thomas asked. “She disappeared later on, mysteriously without a trace,” Cortland said. “Just like the other legends,” Thomas said. “If she were still here, I’d ask her for a chance for me to never give up hope like how she would’ve, and probably for Daring Do if she were here to help save your town.”

Cortland then rubbed Thomas’s shoulder, “Don’t lose hope, son. Just keep believing. It’s what we all would’ve done for her.” Thomas nodded and then Cortland walked away, until Thomas went to the statue and hugged its foreleg, “I know I’m just hugging a statue, but if you can hear me... in my world, I gave up hope on waiting for a family that would accept me, but every time it happens, they wouldn’t accept me. All I’m asking for is... please give me a chance to not give up hope on myself, because I don’t want others to suffer like I have, or pay for my broken-hearted life. I beg of you.” Thomas then kissed the statue’s forehoof and walked away.

He suddenly saw the cloaked stranger with a grin on his muzzle, and then looked at him angrily. “Hey, you! What did Miss Daring Do ever do to you to deserve all of this?!” Thomas asked. “Only... everything!” the pony replied, after removing his cloak. It was Dr. Caballeron.

“Dr. Caballeron?! It was you?!” Thomas asked. “Yes, my dear boy!” Dr. Caballeron replied, with an evil laugh. “When I saw you, her most beloved super fan with her closest friend, Rainbow Dash, I knew that Daring Do would not be far behind. I really do owe you for leading her right to me.”

“No! I didn’t mean to!” Thomas said. “Of course you didn’t! Thank you for helping me break Daring Do's spirit by destroying her reputation, but I can't have you running off and telling her my plan,” Dr. Caballeron said, until he whistled for his henchmen, until they tied up Thomas with rope, and put white cloth over his eyes and mouth, and took him hostage.

Rainbow Dash suddenly saw Dr. Caballeron and his henchmen take Thomas away, “Oh no! Thomas!” A. K. Yearling looked at Rainbow Dash with confusion. “Rainbow Dash, what is it?” A. K. Yearling asked, and then she saw Caballeron taking Thomas. “Caballeron?! No!”

“They’ve got our little cutie nephew! We’ve gotta do something!” Pinkie Pie said. “And where they’re going is where we’re going. Come on!” Rainbow Dash said, until A. K. Yearling thought about why Caballeron would take Thomas hostage since the last time, and then she made a brave face, and went with them.

Later on, Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie were lost in the desert searching for their nephew. “We’re... coming... little... cutie...” Pinkie Pie said, panting to catch her breath. “Are you giving up, just like that?” a voice said. Pinkie Pie saw Daring Do appear, “Ah! I knew you’d come!”

“You did? Well, I sure didn't. What if I cause more trouble?” Daring Do asked. “You won’t!” Pinkie Pie said. “Really? How do you know?” Daring Do asked. “I just do! Besides, you wouldn’t let anything bad happen to the little cutie. You care too much, and about our nephew since he’s your biggest fan!” Pinkie Pie said. “She’s got a point, you know. I did promise his mother I’d watch over him, but I’m not breaking that promise,” Rainbow Dash said. “You know what? You’re right,” Daring Do said, and then she took out her binoculars. “Which way did they go?” She saw the oasis up close, and then she saw Caballeron and his henchmen running towards the pyramid. “To the pyramid!” she said, as they ran for the pyramid.

As they got inside, they heard Thomas’s voice, “Help me! Someone help me!” They saw him tied up onto the stone that Prince Hisan was held by The Sphinx, and blinded. “Daring, is that you?!” Thomas asked. “Don’t worry, buddy!” Rainbow Dash said. “Yeah! We’ll save you!” Pinkie Pie said. They saw the pool of glowing green bubbling slime, and then they had no idea how to get across without the bridge in place. They suddenly heard Dr. Caballeron’s cackle, and looked up at the ceiling. “If my previous plan didn't cause you to give up, Daring Do, then the shame of losing your dear friend Rainbow Dash to the slime will! Oh, and that ancient magic from the legend is real. There'll be no flying in the pyramid! Good luck, Daring Do!” He cackled again, and escaped by trapping the heroes in the pyramid.

The pillar started to move, and Thomas tried to struggle free, “MOMMY! HELP ME!” Daring Do tried to move her wings, but they wouldn’t budge, “He's right! We'll never get to him in time!”

“If this really is like Somnambula's story, then we just have to have hope that we can,” Pinkie Pie said. “I think we need more than hope, Pinkie. There was a bridge in the story, and there's no bridge here,” Daring Do said. “So, what do we do?” Thomas asked. Thomas kept frighteningly whimpering as he kept trying to get free. “I don't know, but Thomas is our little cutie nephew. Just like Somnambula, we need to make a leap of faith and hope that we can save him!” Pinkie Pie said, as she jumped over the edge. “Pinkie!” Daring Do and Rainbow Dash shouted in unison, but suddenly, Pinkie Pie was bouncing with the steam. “Hey! Not a bad idea!” Rainbow Dash said. “Come on!” Daring Do said, as they both bounced over to the other side with Pinkie Pie. “Wheeee! I knew we'd do it!” Pinkie Pie giggled happily. “Thanks for reminding me to never give up hope, Pinkie,” Daring Do said. “Uh... a little help here?!” Rainbow Dash asked, trying to untie her nephew. “We’re on it!” Daring Do said, as she untied Thomas and held him against her chest as she, Rainbow Dash, and Pinkie Pie bounced back to the other side.

Thomas then opened his eyes, and looked at his aunts and Daring Do, but he suddenly hugged the adventurer and cried happily. “Shhhhhh... it’s okay, Thomas. It’s okay. You’re all safe now,” Daring Do said, as she held him and rubbed his back. “Fluttershy’s not gonna like this,” Rainbow Dash said. Daring Do then placed Thomas on her back and then they all left the pyramid, until they saw Dr. Caballeron and his henchponies running for the village. “We can still stop them! Come on!” Thomas said, and they all nodded with angrily brave faces and ran back to the village.

Dr. Caballeron and his henchponies were walking out of the village with the sack. Suddenly, Daring Do stood in front of them, “Not so fast, Caballeron!” Thomas climbed off Daring Do and stood with her. Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie surrounded the henchponies, as they dropped the sack, revealing the glowpaz stones and necklaces, as one of the pieces touched a mare’s hoof. “You stole our glowpaz!” Nile Faras said pointing at Caballeron and his crew. The ponies of Somnambula made angry and disappointed comments at the bandits. “I should’ve known you were just trying to sully my name so that you’d be free to steal whatever you wanted,” Daring Do said angrily, as she placed one of her wings around Thomas for a hug.

“Of course that was the plan, Daring Do!” Dr. Caballeron said. “At first I just wanted all the glowpaz, but then I saw an opportunity to write you out of the story for good!” Caballeron then cackled evilly, as the other ponies gasped at what he said. “And with the destruction you leave in your wake, it didn't take too much to convince ponies you were a villain!!”

“See? I told you Daring Do was innocent,” Thomas said nervously, as he hugged Daring Do’s foreleg. “You’re wrong, Caballeron,” Daring Do said. “And I won’t let you kidnap anymore innocent children or break my spirit again. Because I’m never going to give up hope that I can protect ponies and ancient treasures from miscreants like you!” Thomas blew a raspberry with his tongue at Dr. Caballeron, and then the ponies made agreeable comments with Daring Do.

“Just like Somnambula would do,” Thomas said. Daring Do then nodded, and then Caballeron thought of a lie quickly. “R-Remember! Sh-She ruined your statue! You’re all fools to believe in her!”

The ponies didn’t fall for it, and then kept surrounding the villains. Dr. Caballeron growled in frustration, “YOU’LL PAY FOR THIS, DARING DO!!!” He and his crew began to flee without the glowpaz. The ponies of Somnambula cheered for her. “Okay, okay, that’s enough,” Daring Do said, and then they put her down. “Guys?” she asked. Thomas, Rainbow Dash, and Pinkie Pie walked over to her. “Thanks for backing me up, and for helping me come to my senses. You three are true friends.”

“Are you kidding? That... was... awesome!” Rainbow Dash said. “Yeah! We’re just glad you’re back to your normal self again!” Pinkie Pie said. Daring Do nodded, “Me too.” She felt Thomas tugging her sleeve, “Yeah?”

“Thanks for saving my life again,” Thomas said, in a cute way. “Aww, no problem, buddy. I’m always happy to help,” Daring Do replied, giving Thomas another hug. “I'm glad that I realized that even if you're fighting for something good, you're still responsible for your actions, no matter what happens.”

“And if something bad happens that you didn't intend, you shouldn't give up hope or lose faith in yourself,” Rainbow Dash said. “Yeah! All you gotta do is make it right,” Pinkie Pie said. “Umm, could you use that in your next book?” Thomas asked. “You know, since you’ve helped me believe in myself, I think I’ll consider about it,” Daring Do said. Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie both squealed in excitement and laughed. Thomas then whispered an idea for Daring Do.

So, later on, Daring Do sent Cortland a letter about repairing his Apple cart, and then donated some bits to the motel she usually stay in to pay for the bill, until Mrs. Trotsworth removed the wanted sign for Daring Do and placed one for Dr. Caballeron since he lied to them about Daring Do being evil. Thomas then showed them the remolded statue he completed, and then Daring Do, Thomas, Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie stayed in Somnambula for a 3 day feast of honor.

“Thanks for believing in me, kid,” Daring Do said. “You’re welcome, Daring Do,” Thomas said.

Zeppelin Lifetime Cruise

At Twilight’s castle, Twilight was dealing with so much paperwork and friendship reports, and dealing with fan mail. “Ugh! Will this ever end?!” Twilight asked herself in frustration, and slammed her head on the table. “Twilight?! Is everything okay in there?!” Spike asked. “Not so well, Spike. This is just too much for one pony,” Twilight said. “Yeah, I feel ya,” Spike said, comforting the mare. “Twilight! This came in the mail for you!” Starlight said, giving Twilight an envelope. Twilight read it, until she made an exciting grinning smile on her face, “It's from my parents! Spike, Starlight, they won a zeppelin cruise and get to take the whole family!” She then sighed, “I wish I had time to go with them, but there's just too many princess duties I have to take care of.”

“Hmm, well... it wouldn’t be that bad, right?” Starlight asked. Twilight then thought for a moment, “I guess I could use a little time off from being a princess, too,” Twilight said. “Plus... you could at least bring a two guests, including me and a very special someONE along,” Starlight suggested with a smirk. Twilight then gasped about who she meant, “You don’t mean...?!” Starlight nodded with a seductive look. “Oh my gosh! Yes! This is so exciting! Oh, I should get started on packing and making a schedule!” Twilight screamed excitedly and then ran to her bedroom to pack her bags. “I’ll just uhh... hehehehe... go get that special someONE,” Starlight said, as she left the castle to go fetch their guest.

Later on, at the boarding dock at the Zeppelin, Twilight Velvet and Night Light were walking on board. “Oh, gee. I am really looking forward to a relaxing vacation,” Twilight Velvet said. “Watch out. She won't admit it, but when your mother says "relaxing vacation", she means "doing something crazy". Last time, she ended up bungee-jumping over Luna Bay!” Night Light said to Twilight.

“What was that, hon?” Twilight Velvet asked. “Oh, I was, uh, just telling Twilight about my new, uh, bingo strategy book! It's a, heh, real page-turner!” Night Light said, as he winked at Twilight.

“Oh, I can't wait to get on this zeppelin and fly like a Pegasus!” Shining Armor said. “Really? I remember you getting airsick on Admiral Fairweather's Wild Ride at Pony Island,” Twilight said. “Oh, please! I grew out of airsickness a long time ago,” Shining Armor said. As they all got on aboard, they saw Starlight with her suitcases, and another that belonged to somepony else. “Starlight? You’re near already? Wow,” Twilight said, then she walked over to her so she can introduce her to her parents. “Mom, Dad, I’d like you to meet my student, Starlight Glimmer.”

“It’s very nice to meet you, dear,” Twilight Velvet said. “Thanks for inviting me, Mrs. Sparkle,” Starlight said.

Suddenly, there was some feedback on the loudspeaker, until an assertive male voice spoke, “I hope you ponies feel welcomed aboard, because you are!”

“Well, that was an... assertive welcome,” Twilight said. “Twilight, we also brought a special somepony who’s excited to see you all,” Starlight said, until she revealed Thomas. “Oh my gosh! He looks so cute!” Twilight exclaimed, as she saw him wearing a blue pineapple themed Hawaiian shirt over his sports gray long sleeve shirt, and he had his dark blue jeans and sneakers with. “Mrs. Velvet!” Thomas said, reaching his arms out for a hug. “Thomas?! What a nice surprise!” Twilight Velvet replied with a chuckle, as she walked over to the boy and wrapped her foreleg around him for a hug and carefully brought him towards her chest. Thomas then nuzzled with her chest fur for a hug, and then Twilight Velvet nuzzled him back. “How come you never told us you were coming?!” Cadance asked.

“Aunt Starlight invited me,” Thomas said, as Starlight gave him a wink. “But as long as we’re together, that’s fine by me,” Twilight Velvet said, as Thomas was still in her hoof. “Ooh! They’re starting!”

Suddenly, the ropes holding the Zeppelin were untied, and then a mysterious arm activated the finned propellers, and then the Zeppelin took off into the sky so the cruise can start.

Later on, they went to a guest room that was huge for each other, and they got situated. “Guess this is what it's like to be big-time prize winners,” Night Light laughed. “I just wish I could remember what contest we won.”

“Wait. You don't know where this prize came from?” Twilight asked. “When somepony offers you a free vacation, you just sign the paperwork and don't ask questions!” Twilight Velvet replied. “Especially when it means we all get to fly off together. What should we do first?” Night Light asked. “Well, I did categorize the ship's activities and make a schedule organized by each of our interests. Dad, you're easy. Bingo competition right here,” Twilight said. “Oh, I just love how the numbers and letters are organized in their little boxes. It's so satisfying,” Night Light commented, as he looked at the schedule Twilight made.

“Shining Armor, they've got a tiny boat race in a tiny pool here,” Twilight said. Shining Armor was pleased, “Aw, sis. Only you would remember I love tiny things.” Flurry Heart babbled as her father played with her cute chubby cheeks. “And Cadance, there's a Peewee Princess Playtime here that Flurry's gonna love!” Twilight said, as Flurry Heart babbled again, but excitedly about how she’ll get to play with the other foals. Princess Cadance was surprisingly pleased about her sister-in-law’s kindness, “Oh, wonderful!” Twilight Velvet looked at her part in the schedule, “Hmm. This barrel jumping at Neighagra Falls sounds interesting.”

Twilight then placed the schedule on the wall and stuck it with tacks, “Eh. I just want to see you all have a good time. And this works out perfectly, because we have room for the one thing I wanna do! Our ship passes the Frozen North at sunset, which is the only time you can see the astrological phenomenon known as the Northern Stars. It's like the stars are shooting out of the setting sun!” Thomas gazed at the picture, until Twilight realized she forgot about her nephew.

“Thomas? I also didn’t have time to think about what you wanted to do, but if you want, you’re welcome to join some of our activities or watch them,” she said. Thomas nodded, and then received a hug from his Auntie Twilight. “How about if we get situated before we start?” Twilight suggested, and then the rest of the family made agreeable comments, and sat down on separate chairs.

“Attention, cruise ponies! Don't let this zeppelin be a bore! Leave your room and see the tour!” said the male voice in the loudspeaker.

“A tour could be fun,” Cadance said, as they all went outside for the tour. Thomas suddenly got underneath Starlight as he saw so many ponies on the deck. Shining Armor stood up and waved his forelegs out, “I'm flying! I'm—“ Shining Armor groaned and gagged like he was gonna puke, as he face turned green.

Princess Cadance came over, while holding Flurry against her chest, “I'm afraid Flurry may be airsick. Since I know that isn't a problem for you, would you mind taking her below?” Shining Armor grunted and then took Flurry, and zipped somewhere else to puke.

“And on the far right, you can just make out the white tufts of Cloudsdale, where the Wonderbolts come from to perform anyplace, and where the weather factory makes the weather.”

The ponies got interested, and then they took some pictures and made some comments. Thomas was still scared over the anxiety about being around so many ponies, which made him feel uncomfortable. Starlight looked at him, and then she carefully lifted him up and placed him on her back.

“We are now high enough to see all of Canterlot, even the royal tree where Princesses Celestia and Luna rule Equestria throughout the day and night.”

The cruise ponies took more pictures and made exciting comments. “How does he know that?” Twilight asked. “Beats me. Everypony knows Aunt Celestia and Aunt Luna because of their magical talents,” Cadance said. “True. True,” Starlight said. “Oh, we just wanted to say how excited we are to be here!” Raspberry Sorbet said. “Um... yeah. Us, too,” Twilight said. Thomas suddenly felt uncomfortable, but he managed to see some of the places. Suddenly, he felt a pair of darker grayish blue hooves lift him up, and he saw Shining Armor place him on top of his head like he was giving him a piggyback ride on someone’s shoulders. “Hey! I can see the Crystal Empire from here!” Thomas shouted.

”On our route north, we will pass the spires of the Crystal Empire, where the Royal Couple, Princess Mi Amore Cadenza and Captain Shining Armor rule with peace, love and harmony.”

“That kind of makes sense but true,” Cadance said. “If he says it like that, then yeah,” Shining Armor said, until Thomas kinda started to fall off. “Shining! I-I’m slipping!” Thomas said. He suddenly fell off and landed into Shining Armor’s hoof. “You okay, bud?” he asked. “Yeah, thanks,” Thomas said, as he gave his uncle a hug. “Who’s in charge of the cruise?”

“Excuse me?! Does anypony know where the cruise announcer is?!” Twilight asked.

The Sparkle family entered the bridge and went to see the captain. Starlight was still holding Thomas in her left foreleg as he buried his face in her chest fur. “Excuse me, sir? Who are you?” Twilight asked.

“You can call Iron Will “Iron Will”!” he said. He was a muscular minotaur with Grayish cobalt blue fur on his upper body and dark grayish cobalt blue fur on his lower body, two gray horns, yellow eyes, a black tie around his neck, and he had a big nose ring on his muzzle. He was also wearing a sailors hat on his head. Twilight remembered that minotaur, “Iron Will?! What are you doing here?!”

“The assertiveness seminar market dried up, so Iron Will started a new career organizing themed vacation packages!” Iron Will explained. “And the theme of this vacation is...” Twilight asked. “A chance for everypony on board for an extremely enjoyable experience for Iron Will’s Getaway of a Lifetime Cruise premiere!” Iron Will said. “Iron Will, I'm not sure it was entirely honest of you to offer this cruise to my family without telling us that ponies bought tickets just to experience some kind of world tour. What’s this got to do with my family anyway?” Twilight asked. “Iron Will outlined all the details of the cruise in the Prize Acceptance and Consent Form that yousigned,” he said. “Uhh... I don’t get it,” Starlight said. “None of these make sense.”

“Well, when somepony offers you a free vacation, who reads the fine print?” Twilight Velvet asked. “Iron Will prides himself on providing a quality vacation experience. But if Twilight Sparkle and her family don’t want it, then you can just enjoy the rest of the vacation and just break the hearts of every princess-loving pony on board!” Iron Will said. “That’s not fair! That’s cheating!” Thomas said. “Who said that?!” Iron Will asked. Thomas suddenly got scared of his yelling and hid underneath his auntie’s chest. “Who let this thing in?” Iron Will asked. “Hey! Go easy on our little one!” Shining Armor said, as he took Thomas and held him against his chest for a hug. Cadance put Flurry in her stroller and then stroked Thomas’s hands with her hoof.

“As much as I want a family vacation, I don't think I could entertain all these cruise ponies. My hooves are pretty full taking care of Flurry Heart,” Cadance said. “And this adorable little colt who we also love.”

“I guess we were just so excited by the idea of a family cruise,” Twilight Velvet said. Thomas suddenly began to cry without making a sound, and then he turned himself around and buried himself against Shining Armor’s chest. “Iron Will, I’ll make you a bargain. If you let us do what activities we want to do, will you let us try to make my nephew have a good time?” Twilight suggested. “Very well, you got yourselves a deal!” Iron Will said. “Now it’s time for Iron Will to reveal the special prize!”

“And what would that be?” Twilight asked. “ATTENTION, CRUISE PONIES ON BOARD! IF ANY OF YOU SIGNED UP, THE SPECIAL PRIZE FOR THIS GETAWAY OF A LIFETIME CRUISE IS... A VIP EXPERIENCE OF THE GETAWAY CRUISE OF A LIFETIME!” Iron Will said over the loudspeaker. “What?! A VIP experience?! That’s the prize?!” Twilight asked. “Correct! The VIP experience includes a chance for extreme enjoyment for all ponies to have!” Iron Will said. “Well, I guess we better get started...” Twilight said, laughing nervously.

“Thomas? Sweetheart, are you okay?” Cadance asked. Thomas turned himself another direction and lied in Shining’s hoof in depression, missing his chance to have his first family vacation.

After lunch, they went to the bingo tables for some bingo time. There was a unicorn mare with glasses and her mane tied in a bun sitting there, as she rolls the cage sphere full of bingo balls, and one of them popped out and she called out the letter and number, “I-19!”

They all put the chips on the number in the section where the letter was. Suddenly, Night Light got it, “BINGO! BINGO!”

“Me too!” said a cruise pony, then they continued chanting, until the game ended and Thomas came in last, until he got bingo last. Thomas raised his hand, and then the mare gave him a gold star medal. Thomas then cried with liquid pride.

“Phew! Just made it! And I'm ready to give you the tiny boat race of your life!“ Twilight said to Shining Armor, as he whinnied excitedly, but got sick again. “Are you okay, Shining?” Thomas asked. “I-I... I’m fine... bud,” he said while gagging. “Are you sure you're not airsick, big brother?” Twilight teased. “No way. How can I be airsick? I'm in the water, so it totally cancels out!” Shining Armor said nauseously said, until he gurgled in his mouth. “I don't think that's how it works. But I'm ready if you are,” Twilight said. “Can I race with you, Aunt Twilight?” Thomas asked. “Of course, sweetie. Climb on!” Twilight said. “Technically, Twilight’s nephew should sit this one out,” Iron Will said, lifting him up from his shirt. “Hey!” Thomas said. “I said I would let him race,” Twilight said, as she placed Thomas on her lap in the paddle boat. “Hmm, very well. May the best win! And no fighting dirty!” Iron Will said. “Starlight Glimmer shall officiate the race!”

“O-Okay,” Starlight said, and then she cleared her throat and then raised the flag up, “On your mark, get set... GO!!” Twilight pedaled as fast as she could, and Thomas cheered for her as he sat on her lap. They then came in first, as Shining Armor was still feeling airsick. “We did it! We did it!” Thomas said, hugging his aunt on the belly. “Yes, sweetheart. We did, “Twilight said, hugging him back.

“Congratulations, racers!” Iron Will said. “Oh, my word, that was exciting! Wasn't it, son?” Twilight Velvet asked, with a short laugh. “Just so everypony knows, I'm getting out of this boat because of how not sick I feel,” Shining Armor said, nauseously. “Aww, that's all right, dear. We'll take you back to the room,” Twilight Velvet said, as she took Shining Armor back to the room. “That was just the first heat! Of ten!” Iron Will said, as his abs popped. “Now, let’s bring on the next racers!”

Come on, sweetheart. Let’s go check on Cadance,” Twilight said as Thomas rode on her back. When they got there, they saw Flurry Heart playing with the other foals, by sharing with them and using her magic safely. “Cadance, I'm so glad you got in the Peewee Playtime!” Twilight said. “Flurry is having a wonderful time,” Cadance said. “That's great. I'm just on my way to take some old-time Appleloosan photos!” Twilight said. “Themed photoshoots are the best, but I never had one,” Thomas said. “And then do some stuff with Thomas before Mom’s barrel photos at Neighagra Falls! I really hope I don't miss that,” Twilight said.

“Twilight, are you sure you don't mind doing all of these princess activities?” Cadance said. “Mind? What? Absolutely not. I mean, you guys are having fun, right?” Twilight said. “Besides, I have to make sure that Thomas is having a good time without Iron Will ruining it for him.”

“You're already being a good aunt, Twilight,” Princess Cadance said. “Honestly, as long as I get to see the Northern Stars tonight with everypony, I'll be happy. But right now, I gotta go take some pictures. See you later!” Twilight said, as she and Thomas trotted off to the photo booth. “Why don’t you play and make a princess friend?” Sun Cloche asked her baby, as the mother’s gathered their babies around Flurry. Suddenly, she was lifted up magically and held by her mother. “Uh... I am so sorry, everypony, but it looks like Flurry needs her nap,” Cadance said, as she walked away with a soft sigh.

“Mom! I’m here!” Twilight said. “Glad you made it, Twilight!” Twilight Velvet said. “Starlight, could you watch over Thomas?” Twilight asked. “Sure,” Starlight said, as she gently lifted up Thomas and held him in one of her hooves. “Ready when you are, Mom!” Twilight said. “Okay, let’s go!” Twilight Velvet said, and then they went to do their barrel ride during each wait, and then each goat pushed one of them each over the wooden board and over the waterfall, until they came back in the barrels all wet from the water.

Twilight Velvet gasped excitedly. “Neighagra Falls was amazing! The endless open air, the water in my mane! Oh! The small confines of the barrel!” Twilight Velvet said excitedly. “You said it! I’ve never had that experience so much as you would have!” Twilight said. Night Light chuckled, “Another relaxing vacation in the books, hon.” He gave his wife a kiss on the cheek.

“Thank you so much, Mom! This VIP experience is just what we needed!” Twilight said. “Oh, honey, I know you're excited, but we’ve managed to wait for you sooner. Maybe we should take a break before dinner,” Twilight Velvet said. “Relax! You know how much I love joyous moments!”

“I just don't want you to forget. It's your vacation, too,” Twilight Velvet said. “How can I when it's a totally successful vacation?” Twilight asked. “All right. Well, uh, we can't wait to see those Northern Stars after dinner!” Night Light said. “Excuse me? Is this your child?” asked a sailor pony, who was bringing Thomas over, all wet from the water and standing next to a lifeguard pony. “Thomas? Oh, no. What happened to you?” Twilight asked in worry, as Twilight Velvet held him against her chest to keep him warm under the towel. “I fell in,” Thomas whimpered. “I tried to swim, but I thought I was gonna die!”

“Aww, shhhhh... There, there, dearie. It’s going to be okay now,” Twilight Velvet said, before she kissed him on the forehead. “Come on, let’s go get him cleaned up and ready for dinner before the Northern Stars,” Twilight said. “Attention, cruise ponies! At sundown, we’ll be experiencing the Northern Stars, so be ready!” Iron Will said over the loudspeaker.

Back at the room, Twilight Velvet washed and dried Thomas’s clothes so he can put them back on while Twilight helped him with his bath. After he was washed and dried, Twilight brought Thomas back out so he can put his clothes back on in the dressing room. When he came out, he sat down with Starlight as she placed him on her lap. “Is that better, dearie?” Twilight Velvet asked sweetly. “Mmhmm. I guess so,” Thomas said with a soft whimper. “It’s okay, honey. It was just an accident,” Starlight said, as she gave him a kiss on the forehead and continued to stroke his shoulders.

“Come on, sweetheart. Let’s go get some dinner, and we can watch the Northern Stars together,” Twilight Velvet said, and then they got up and went to a small restaurant in the Zeppelin. Thomas ordered a pasta salad he likes, and a glass of water with it. They all ordered salads, but Cadance and Twilight ordered pasta primavera. Flurry got herself some mashed hay potatoes with steamed peas on the side.

When they were finished, they went outside and watched the Northern Stars. “Iron Will is hoping you’re enjoying the festivities?” he asked. Twilight nervously laughed, “Yep, sure am!”

“Well, Iron Will has made one part of the Northern Stars experience just for all of you! A chance to have an extreme view of the Northern Stars!” Iron Will said. “Actually, I’d like to enjoy them with my family peacefully, thank you,” Twilight said, as she and Thomas went over to their folks. “Hmph! Very well,” Iron Will said, as he walked away.

“Ah! There you are!” Twilight Velvet said. “I know!” Twilight said, then sat down on her haunches, and then she took Thomas and sat him down on her lap. “Are you ready to see the Northern Stars, honey?”

“Yeah. I kinda like a calm vacation better, because peaceful happiness makes me happy more,” Thomas said. “And that’s why we’re doing this your way,” Twilight said. “Oh! Here they come!” Twilight Velvet said. Suddenly, the Northern Stars appeared and zoomed through the sky in a beautiful shower of comets. The ponies gazed in awe, and then made enjoyable calm comments. “They’re so pretty!” Thomas said, and then he saw Twilight make a wish. “What’d you wish for, honey?” Twilight Velvet asked. “That I would like to spend the rest of the cruise relaxing with my family,” Twilight said. “But that’s what we’re doing,” Cadance said. “I know, and I’m so glad we’ve got to take this VIP experience to a minimum!”

“Hey, let’s go get some ice cream!” Starlight said. And they all stood up and went to the ice cream stand and got themselves some ice cream cones.

When Twilight was about to give one to Shining Armor, he got airsick again, so she decided to let Flurry Heart have it, as the cute baby alicorn giggled as she adorably stuffed her mouth on it. The entire Sparkle family laughed at how adorable it was.

“Thanks for bringing me, Aunt Twilight. This was fun to hang out with your family,” Thomas said. “You don’t need to thank me, sweetheart. I just want you to have a nice vacation with me,” Twilight said. “And I’m glad I was lucky enough to come along in case you needed a foalsitter for Thomas,” Starlight said. “I know, Starlight. You’re a really good friend,” Twilight said.

“But why did you win the VIP experience if you wanted peace and quiet?” Thomas asked. “I only made that deal with Iron Will to keep the cruise going so everypony can be happy, and get a chance to spend some time with all of you, my family, my student, and my nephew,” Twilight said. “But what about what you wanted?” Cadance asked. “I only want Thomas to be happy, because he has a big sensitive heart. Do you remember when he told us about his heartbreak from his loneliness from the orphanage?” Twilight asked. “It almost sounded like he’s never been on a cruise before, so Starlight made a suggestion about bringing Thomas along, and for him to have fun.”

“We know what you had to do,” Cadance said wrapping, her wing around her. “But sometimes being a good aunt, and spending time with your family and your friends is a choice for a big responsibility on what you want what’s best. You have those traits, especially for a princess.”

“How do you know, Princess Cadance?” Thomas asked. “Well, sweetie. When I was pregnant with Flurry Heart a while back, the line was pretty easier for me. You will always have obligations as a pony or an nephew to somepony you love, including a mother, but you also have an obligation to yourself,” Cadance explained. “You’re right. I need we may need to set up some boundaries, because this VIP experience wasn’t too exciting,” Twilight said. “So, I think we all deserve a relaxing experience with each other,” Twilight said.

“Not enjoying the VIP experience, Iron Will has heard?! Well, we can fix all of that!” Iron Will said. ”Attention, cruise ponies! If it's your dream, come to the deck for ice cream! And feel free to get in line if you want the princesses to sign an autograph or get a picture!” The cruise ponies all appeared for ice cream excitedly and had autograph books and their camera with them. “No! Leave my aunt alone, you big bully!” Thomas shouted. “What you say to Iron Will, little rugrat?!” Iron Will asked angrily, until Thomas hid underneath Starlight and stood behind her legs.

“It's okay, everypony,” Twilight said, as she took the microphone from Iron Will and placed it on her ear, then spoke up after clearing her throat. “First, I want to thank all of you for coming. It means a lot that you'd spend your hard-earned bits just to be with us. But I honestly came on this cruise to take some time off from being a princess and enjoy some time with my nephew, Thomas.” They all made awwww about how cute he looked. “I'm just a pony, too, after all. And my nephew’s like 6 years old. But even though I want everypony here to be happy, I'd really like to spend the rest of the cruise relaxing with my family, especially my nephew. But you’re welcome to say hello to me or Cadance or visit us for an autograph anytime you have some free time during your stay. I also invited Thomas so he can have a chance for his first cruise, since he never had one in his life, because he was an orphan before Fluttershy adopted him and healed his broken-heart. And if you want, I’d like to allow Thomas to enjoy this cruise with me and my family, and be happy.”

Thomas then hugged his aunt as she held him on one hoof and let him rest against her chest. “Of course, Princess Twilight! Anything for you and your nephew!” Sunny Side said. “But I don’t get it. Why was this trip advertised as a Getaway for a Lifetime cruise if you just wanted to get away and have peace and quiet?” Sun Cloche asked. The cruise ponies and Twilight looked at Iron Will whistling like he did something bad, so he explained everything, “Iron Will’s Getaway for a Lifetime Cruise, including VIP experience makes no guarantee as to participation of actual princesses, celebrities or delegates! No refunds, whatsoever!”

“What?! You made up a scam VIP experience with my sister-in-law and our family, including this little sweetheart?” Cadance asked, as she took Thomas from Twilight and held him against her chest. “And you lied to everypony on board that this VIP experience was to have a good time, but with unsafe extremism your way?!” Twilight asked. “Iron Will doesn’t know what you’re talking about!” he lied nervously.

“I would think the same thing,” said a royal elegant voice. It was Princess Celestia, and two guards stood next to her. “Princess Celestia!” Thomas said, and he jumped off Cadance to give Celestia a hug on her foreleg, until she lifted him up and hugged him against her chest. “I got your letter, sweetheart. Is this con-artist minotaur bothering you and your family, Twilight?” she asked. Twilight nodded, then spoke to Iron Will with an angry tone. “Iron Will, for crimes of false advertising and various con-acts throughout Equestria, you are under arrest.”

“Seize him,” Princess Celestia said, as the guards took Iron Will to her carriage on the other side of the deck. “As Princess of Equestria, I hereby announce this cruise to be free for all!” Twilight said, and then the cruise ponies cheered.

Later on, Twilight and her folks went back to the room for the night. “There's still plenty of activities to do tomorrow. We pass Fillydelphia on the way back. I could give Flurry Heart a quick history tour,” Twilight said, as she and Cadance walked over to her folks in the living room. “That's very thoughtful,” Cadance said, as their folks agreed. “Shhhhhh! You’re gonna wake him up,” Starlight said in a soft voice, and she was wearing her purple and green plaid robe and slippers from the Crystal Empire. “Why are you whispering?” Twilight asked. “Because a certain someone’s trying to get some sleep,” Starlight explained, as she revealed Thomas, who was being all snug and warm in her hugging hooves and sitting on her lap by curling, and wearing his white pajama set while wrapped in his blanket.

“Aww, it looks like it’s time he was in bed,” Twilight Velvet said. “Aunt Twilight?” Thomas asked with a sleepy and raspy voice. “Yes, sweetheart?” Twilight asked. “This was... the best... the best fam... family vacation ever...” Thomas said, as he finally fell asleep in Starlight’s hooves. “I’ll go take him to bed with me. I’ll see you guys in the morning,” Starlight said, as she took Thomas to her guest room for bedtime. “Now this is what I call a family vacation,” Twilight said, and they continued to enjoy the vacation so on and so forth.

Thomas’s Royal Problem

View Online

At Twilight’s castle, the map was calling for Starlight, when she saw her cutie mark glowing on her flank, and there was another cutie mark, but it was Thomas’s CMC badge. “I can’t believe it!” Twilight exclaimed. “I know! I can't believe it either! The map has never called me before!” Starlight exclaimed. “Yep. As usual,” Spike said. “Oh, this is so exciting! You’re first friendship problem!” Twilight said. “I know! But I sure hope I don’t mess this up,” Starlight said. “Aunt Twilight! Aunt Starlight!” Thomas called out. “Thomas? Is that your cutie mark on the map?” Starlight asked. “It’s coming from my badge!” Thomas said, showing them his badge.

“I didn’t know that can happen,” Starlight said. “But... he’s a human. Why would the map call to him?” Spike asked. “I don’t know, Spike. But whatever it is, I hope he can handle this,” Twilight said. “Where is it coming from?” Thomas asked. “Let’s find out,” Twilight said, and then the map pinpointed the location of the signal, which was Canterlot. “Canterlot?! Oh my gosh!” Twilight exclaimed in excitement. “What could be going on at Canterlot?” Starlight asked, until the signal zoomed in at the Royal Palace. “The Royal Palace? What could that mean?”

“I don’t know, but you and Thomas better get going,” Twilight said. “I got my stuff ready,” Thomas said, revealing his luggage. “Good, then we’re ready to roll,” Starlight said. “We’ll let you know what we find on the way back.” Thomas climbed onto Starlight’s back and then she trotted over to the train station.

As they arrived at the Royal Palace, they saw Princess Celestia and Princess Luna sitting in their thrones. “Welcome, Starlight Glimmer,” Princess Celestia greeted. “Hi, Princess Celestia!” Thomas exclaimed. Princess Celestia laughed softly, until she went over and held him on her hoof and hugged him against her chest, as the little boy nuzzled with her warm chest fur. “I assume you brought him along just to see me?”

“Not exactly. It’s just that... me and Thomas were called here for a friendship problem, but we don’t know what exactly the problem is,” Starlight explained. “Oh. Right,” Princess Celestia said. “Well, there's nothing wrong here. Right, sister?”

Princess Luna had bags under her eyes. “No. Everything's perfect as usual, sister,” she said sourly. Thomas kinda felt concerned about their behaviors.

At the guest room, Starlight and Thomas got situated. “Aunt Starlight?” Thomas asked. “What is it, sweetheart?” Starlight asked. “I’m kinda worried about Princess Celestia and Princess Luna. Do you think something’s bothering them?” Thomas said. Starlight gently picked Thomas up and placed him on her lap, “I don’t know, sweetie. But whatever it is, I’m sure we’ll find a safer way to solve it.”

“But what if they’re fighting each other by hurting their feelings?” Thomas asked. “I don’t know, but it might be something else. We’ll have to find out in the morning,” Starlight said. “Come on. Let’s go get you ready for bed.” Thomas nodded, and then Starlight took him to a bathroom for his bath.

The next morning, Starlight and Thomas sat down in the dining hall with Princess Celestia for breakfast, which were pancakes with strawberries, blueberries and blackberries on top, and had whipped butter on top and syrup soaked on the pancakes.

“Thank you so much for breakfast, princess. I can't believe you cook it yourself,” Starlight said, taking a bite of her pancakes. Thomas even enjoyed his after cutting each slice and eating them. Princess Celestia lightly giggled, “Of course, Starlight! I really enjoy doing it. It's a small way to say I care. Especially for your dear nephew, who I love to care for.” The door opened, and Princess Luna had the look of a sleepy pony. “Good morning, sister! Join us?” Princess Celestia asked, showing her a plate full of pancakes. Princess Luna then walked away, sourly refusing the pancakes and used her magic to take a pineapple, “Too tired.” She took a bite of the fruit. “Please excuse me.”

“Wow. Last night must've been really hard on her,” Starlight said. Princess Celestia sighed sadly, “Perhaps. But she is like this every morning.” She discarded the pancakes for Luna into the waste bin.

“Is something troubling Princess Luna?” Thomas asked. “I think so,” Starlight said. “Thomas, why don’t you comfort Princess Celestia and we’ll deal with Princess Luna later?”

“Okay,” Thomas said, and he went to Princess Celestia, and then he gave her a comforting hug on her stomach and rested his head on her chest. “Aww... aren’t you sweet?” she asked, hugging him back. “I’ll go write to Twilight about my progress while Thomas takes care of you,” Starlight said, as she left the dining hall to the guest room, and then Princess Celestia took Thomas for a joyride by flying, as he sat on her back.

Later on, Starlight and Thomas joined Princess Luna for the night, as Thomas rode on Luna’s back. “Wow, Princess Luna. You do this every night?” Starlight asked surprisingly. “Lavender's calming scent is known to aid dreamers in achieving a restorative sleep,” Princess Luna explained, as Thomas sniffed from it, and made a soft warm smile about how good it smelled. Starlight sniffed some of the flowers, “That's so thoughtful!”

“I try my best to make sure the ponies in this castle sleep peacefully,” Princess Luna said. Suddenly, the door opened and Princess Celestia came in with other Canterlot ponies. “And so, then I said, "Touring? More like 'boring'!" Fleur Dr Verre said, as he and the others made an airy laughter. Princess Celestia laughed as well, “Oh, you really are a card!”

Princess Luna sighed frustratingly, “But as always, my sister is too busy having fun with dignitary ponies to acknowledge anything I do. Hmph!” Thomas felt worried for Luna.

Later on, as nighttime continued, Starlight was wearing her robe and slippers, while Thomas wore his blue star covered footsie pajamas and sat on Starlight’s lap, as she wrapped her forelegs around him for a cradling hug. “Well, Thomas. It looks like both princesses are hurting each other without realizing it. And instead of talking about it, they're just getting colder and more distant.“ Starlight said. “I don’t like it. They’re sisters and they love each other,” Thomas said, as he gently squished his cheek on her chest. “I know, honey. I know,” Starlight said. “But it looks like we’ll have to confront them with a thoughtful and strategic explanation type of way.”

“Do you think they’ll understand?” Thomas asked. “Maybe, but it looks like we’ll have to find out in the morning. It’s late anyhow,” Starlight said, as she saw Thomas yawning, until he fell asleep in her embrace. Starlight then put Thomas on the bed, and then she took off her robe and slid her slippers off her hooves, and then climbed into bed with Thomas as she hugged him against her chest for comfort.

The next morning, Starlight and Thomas joined Princess Celestia for breakfast again, which were pancakes, but with pineapples and peaches. “Wow. I almost feel bad eating this. It's adorable,” Starlight said.

“Like I said, I enjoy this part,” Princess Celestia said. “I just wish Princess Luna felt the same,” Thomas said, eating his pancakes. The door suddenly opened, and Princess Luna walked in, taking a banana and eating it. “Hi,” she sourly said with her mouth full.

“Uh, Princess Luna! Wait!” Starlight exclaimed. “As you both know, the map sent me and Thomas here for a reason, and I... think we found out what it is.” Thomas nodded nervously. Princess Celestia was shocked, “Really? Oh, that is wonderful, Starlight! What is it?”

“You two,” Starling said. “Excuse me?” Princess Celestia asked. “I beg your pardon?” Princess Luna simultaneously asked.
Starlight then continued as she hugged Thomas by holding him on her right foreleg and against her chest, “I think you're accidentally hurting each other's feelings without realizing it. Princess Celestia, does it bother you that Luna never notices the wonderful breakfasts that you prepare for her?”

“Uh... Y-Yes. It does,” Princess Celestia said. Princess Luna, tell Celestia how you feel about the fact that she never acknowledges the work you put into lining the hallway with lavender every night,” Starlight said. “I... Well, I... I-It's not the best feeling,” Princess Luna said, until she turned to Celestia. “I'm sorry I never noticed that you make fruit faces on pancakes, but nights are long for me. You might be a morning pony, but I am half-asleep.”

Princess Celestia scoffed, “You think I don't get tired? I'm exhausted! Oh, I apologize for not noticing flowers in a wall sconce. But by the time I get to retire for the night, I can barely see straight! Even so, I still make an effort to smile!”

“Like smiling is so hard,” Princess Luna argued back. “I-I-I'm sure that's not what Princess Luna meant to say, Princess Celestia,” Thomas said. “Is that what exhausts you? Smiling and being adored by everypony?” Princess Luna asked sourly. “And you have it so much worse, do you?! You've spent your evenings flitting around giving ponies lovely dreams! Oh, it sounds just awful!” Princess Celestia replied in an argumentative tone. Starlight chuckled nervously, “Okay! I feel like we should step back, take a deep breath...”

“Don't presume to know what it is like to govern the dream realm! I try my best, especially when little Thomas had nightmares during his first time here a while back!” Princess Luna yelled. “Don’t you dare bring him into this! He’s too sensitive to be taken that way! And yet you know exactly what it's like to be me?! HA! Oh, please!” Princess Celestia scoffed argumentatively. “Enough!” Starlight shouted, as there was a shimmering magical flash. The princesses looked at their cutie marks, as Celestia had Luna’s cutie mark, and Luna had Celestia’s cutie mark.

“There! Now you'll know exactly what it's like to... be each other,” Starlight and Thomas both nervously gulped, as Starlight nervously smiled and Thomas shook in fear worried about what happened. Princess Celestia gasped, “What have you done?!”

“I... went with my gut?” Starlight nervously replied, until Thomas spoke up. “S-Sorry, Princess Celestia...”

“Switch our cutie marks back this instant!” Princess Luna hollered. “My apologies, your majesties! But I can't, even if I wanted to. The spell lasts twenty-four hours. I-It may have been extreme, but, uh, I think it's still a good idea?” Starlight said in a nervously smiling response. Princess Celestia gave Starlight a serious look, “What?”

“Y-You said it yourselves! Neither of you believes your sister knows how hard it is to be you. So this is your chance to prove it,” Starlight said. “Please. I don’t want you two to tear each other apart anymore. Or otherwise you’ll end up lonely like before,” Thomas said sadly.

“Well, I could use an easy day followed by a good night's sleep,” Princess Luna said. “You can try. I haven't had an easy day in, well, ever! But now, I get to sleep, and tonight will be a breeze,” Princess Celestia said in agreement. “All right, Starlight Glimmer. We will do this.”

“Good choice! Not that you had one,” Starlight chuckled. Princess Celestia and Princess Luna both snorted. “I'm gonna stop talking now,” Starlight said. “I’ll just leave you too it.”

“Thomas? Since we’ve been delayed... would you like to spend some time with Luna so I can spend time with you later?” she asked. “You mean it?!” Thomas asked excitedly. Princess Celestia nodded, as Princess Luna leaned down towards his level, and let him climb on her back. “Now, let’s go have some quality time, just you and I,” Princess Luna said. “Okay!” Thomas said. “Luna? Try to keep him happily occupied, would you?” Princess Celestia asked. “Will do, sister,” Princess Luna said, as she, Thomas and Starlight walked off to the throne room.

“As you can see, Celestia and I are switching places today,” Princess Luna said to the staff of the castle, as they made confused murmurs. “I assure you, I am more than capable of handling all of Celestia's, heh, duties while I have time to spend some, heh, quality time with this little one.” She playfully tickled Thomas’s belly, that made him laugh. “Dismissed,” Princess Luna said, and the castle staff made nervous murmurs. “So, what is first on my dear sister's to-do list?”

Starlight lifted the list up with her magic and read through it, “It says you have a few public appearances. Store openings, judging the royal rose contest... You know, that sort of thing.” Princess Luna chuckled, “Oh, I knew today would be easy, but I didn't think it would be that easy. And maybe we’ll get some ice cream along the way.” Thomas then hugged his auntie.

Princess Luna smiled lightly while riding Celestia’s carriage and waved at the ponies, while Thomas sat on her lap, and Starlight followed from behind by trotting, then Luna did a ribbon cutting ceremony for a store opening, but she stomped on the ribbon and the ponies cheered. Luna did the royal rose contest judging by sniffing each rose, and then made up her mind and pronounced them all winners, which made the contenders happy, but confused. After the contest, she smiled lightly for the camera as the school ponies were having a picture for their school trip, until she accidentally frowned with a scowl.

“Well, it looks like you’ve handled most of it pretty easy. Except this,” Starlight said. “"Princess Luna Unhappy with Student Fundraiser"? But I wasn't unhappy!” Princess Luna exclaimed. “Um, you were scowling,” Starlight said, as Thomas nodded in agreement while eating his small ice cream cone that had four small scoops, one consisting vanilla bean, mint chocolate chip, regular chocolate, and cookies and cream ice cream.

“Well, I-I didn't mean to! I've been smiling all day! My cheeks hurt! I stopped for one second! And that's when he took the picture!” Princess Luna said. “Guess smiling all day isn't as easy as you thought?” Thomas asked, before taking another bite of his ice cream. “It says here that, because of me, the school didn't raise enough funds to go on their field trip! I-I didn't mean for that to happen!” Princess Luna said, as she face planted her head on the table.

“I know. But you can't dwell on that now. According to the list, some delegates are about to arrive for a luncheon. You need to dispel rumors of timberwolves in the White Tail Woods. The nearby towns have been in a state of panic for weeks,” Starlight said.

“B-B-But I have to fix this!” Princess Luna said. “You can't. You need to put on a brave face and help these ponies. It's what Princess Celestia would do,” Thomas said, after finishing his ice cream. “You’re right, dear one. Very well, here goes nothing,” Princess Luna said, as she opened the doors, took a deep breath and shouted. “Hello! Great news! There are no timberwolves!” She then slammed the door. “ No, there are definitely timberwolves!” said the delegate ponies.

“I'm sorry. But I couldn't stop thinking about those poor students. Normally, I have all the time in solitude I need to work through my problems at my own pace,” Princess Luna said. “Well, your sister doesn't get that luxury,” Starlight stated. “Mmhmm,” Thomas said, as he finished up his scoop of mint chocolate chip ice cream and moved onto the chocolate flavored ice cream scoop.

“The princess will definitely side with me!” Mayor Cream Cheese said to Mayor Baltimare behind the door. “Please see reason, Mayor Cream Cheese! I'm telling you, Baltimare...”

“Ready for the town hall?” Starlight asked. Princess Luna sighed and went to go reason with Mayor Cream Cheese and Mayor Baltimare as they continued arguing.

Later on, as nighttime appeared, things were now fixed. “Glad that's settled,” said Mayor Baltimare. Mayor Cream Cheese chuckled, “And it only took three hours.”

“That got heated, didn't it?” Mayor Baltimare asked. “Still on for golf?” Mayor Cream Cheese asked. “Oh, absolutely,” Mayor Baltimare said, as Mayor Cream Cheese chuckled.

“You made it to the end of the day. Yay?” Starlight nervously cheered, as she saw Princess Luna looking exhausted. “Hmm? Oh. Yes, uh...” Princess Luna yawned. “I'm just going to turn in, then. Good light, Starnight. Good night, Thomas...” She yawned again as she walked to her room.

“Oh, hello, Starlight. Hello, Thomas. I don't know about you, but I feel very well-rested. Where's Luna?” Princess Celestia asked as she appeared. “Um, uh, she already turned in for the night,” Starlight said. “Did she now? It seems my duties were harder than my sister expected,” Princess Celestia said. “I have an idea for you both. Why don’t you join with me tonight?”

Thomas nodded, and then he suddenly yawned as he got sleepy. “And it looks like he’s had a good time, but... could we give him some dinner before we head off?” Starlight asked. Princess Celestia nodded, and then they walked over to her bedroom to sleep.

After Thomas had some pasta and steamed vegetables, he put on his green pajamas, and then Starlight read one of her books. Princess Celestia then raised the moon with her magic, “Okay, moon raised. It's even easier than raising the sun.” She then chuckled. “So, what’s next?” She then saw Thomas sleeping by leaning towards her left leg. “Aww... Oh, right. Of course. Everypony's asleep at night,” Princess Celestia then tucked Thomas onto her bed, and gave him a kiss on the cheek. “Heh. Luna works alone... Oh, but it's nothing I can't handle. All I have to do is watch over Equestria, visit the dream realm, and protect ponies in their nightmares. My list was three times as long!” She then chuckled, and then Starlight got into bed with her nephew.

The lights in the houses in Canterlot were turned off. “All right. Everypony's asleep. You're talking to yourself, Celestia. Heh. But there's nopony else to talk to!” Princess Celestia chuckled. “Yet. I can talk to ponies in their dreams!” She then concentrated and traveled to the dream realm. When she arrived, she saw blue orbs consisting all of the ponies’ dreams.

“Now, to save some ponies from their nightmares. Which aren't real, so it shouldn't be too hard, right? Right. Good call, Celestia! And I'm talking to myself again,” Princess Celestia said, until she heard a child and a female voice screaming in fear. “Thomas?! Starlight?! Wonder what they’re dreaming about... Oh no!” She saw Thomas riding on Starlight’s back running down the hall with floating pancakes talking to him, “I care. I care. I care. I care.” Thomas kept running until he saw Twilight looking angry at Starlight, “This is big! Like, really big!” Twilight’s eyes shown both the sun in the day and the moon in the night.

Thomas and Starlight then ran into a dream version of the main hall, until Princess Celestia appeared to comfort them both, “Starlight! Thomas! I'm here now. Tell me what's wrong.”

Princess Celestia held Thomas against her chest on her right foreleg and Thomas cried underneath her chest fur, “Going with my gut was the wrong call! We were supposed to bring you two closer together! But I've only driven you apart with magic! If you two can't see why you need each other, then—!”

“Then I am back!” said a voice, until it was Nightmare Moon, who started laughing evilly. Princess Celestia stood by Starlight and kept holding Thomas, “Don't worry, you two. I know how to handle Nightmare Moon.”

“Yes! But can you handle... me?!” said another voice, as she revealed herself laughing evilly. She looked like Princess Celestia, but she had pale light grayish orangish white fur, her mane and tail were blazing with fire, she had deep reddish brown eyes with brilliant orange and brilliant gold gradient pupils, a helmet that was molded as flames in orange and light orange, razor sharp teeth, and her flank and chest piece had a cutie mark of Princess Celestia’s sun with a brilliant orange background. She also had a flame molded helmet in deep and light orange, a deep orange chest plate with Celestia’s sun symbol, deep orange armor on her wings, and deep orange shoes on all four hooves. Princess Celestia was fearfully shocked as the evil version of her kept cackling, “This can't be!”

“If Luna can turn into Nightmare Moon, you can absolutely turn into me — Daybreaker! The better, prettier, and more powerful version of you!” she said. “No! I'll never turn into you!” Princess Celestia said, as she stood by Starlight to protect her and still held Thomas in her hoof. “Deep inside, you know how powerful you are. You don't need Luna,” Daybreaker said. “That's not true! Even when we were apart, I knew I needed her!” Princess Celestia said. Daybreaker laughed, “Oh, please! You don't need anypony! You can do whatever you want. And all you have to do is get rid of anypony who stands in your way!” She blasted a red magical beam from her horn, but Princess Celestia blocked it. “I never should've banished you to the moon! I should've destroyed you!” Daybreaker said angrily at Nightmare Moon.

“No, you can't do that! Day, night, sun, moon — Equestria needs both of you!” Thomas said, as the two evil alicorns kept fighting. “Without balance, there's no harmony! Please, stop!” Suddenly, Daybreaker made an explosion towards Nightmare Moon.

Nightmare Moon then growled frustratingly and made a explosive shield. “Who needs balance when you can have it all?!” Daybreaker then laughed, until Nightmare Moon blasted her with her magic.

“You can't get rid of me so easily, sister! Unless you plan on smiling me to smithereens!” Nightmare Moon said mockingly. Princess Celestia then spread out her wings after she appeared magically, “Enough!” Daybreaker laughed, “I told you I was more powerful than you!” Nightmare Moon then summoned black magic from underneath her. “Ugh. So much black. We get it. You're sad. You could really use some... sun!” Daybreaker breathed fire at Nightmare Moon as she blocked it with her black magic orb. Starlight gasped, as she grabbed Thomas from the burning carpet, and Celestia flew with then in her hooves, until she casted a bubble made by her magic. Daybreaker made a flaming burst, and Starlight started crying, “This is all my fault! I never should've gone on this mission! Now Equestria is doomed!”

“I WANT MY MOMMA!” Thomas said, as he cried as well. Princess Celestia then searched for Luna’s dream, until she saw her sister dreaming about smiling.

Suddenly, the students she saw somehow teased her singsong, “That smile's too wide... It's obviously not real...” Princess Luna saw them looking sad, “Why don't you want us to go on our field trip?” The filly started crying.

“I don't...!” Princess Luna suddenly started to lose some of her teeth. “I mean, I do!” The fillies and colts teased her again, “That smile's too wide... It's obviously not real...” Princess Luna saw Celestia come through, “Celestia! I'm so glad you're...!” She was cut off by Celestia bringing her to Starlight and Thomas’s dream, where Nightmare Moon and Daybreaker kept fighting.

“I've seen a lot, but I haven't seen this before,” Princess Luna said in her normal tone. “It's a dream for both dear Thomas and Starlight Glimmer. They’re afraid this is what will happen if we continue to fight!” Princess Celestia said. Starlight kept sobbing, “What was I thinking?! I'm never going with my gut again!”

“I wanna go home to my Momma! I want my Momma!” Thomas said. “If you don't fix this soon, it could have a grave consequence on both their psyche,” Princess Luna said. “But my magic isn't powerful enough! I thought if we worked together...!” Princess Celestia was cut off by Princess Luna, “I have your magic, remember? It doesn't work in the dream realm. It has to be you!”

Princess Celestia started leaking tears from her eyes, “Oh, Luna, I can't do this! I was wrong! Your job is so incredibly hard! You have to battle nightmares and work in the darkness and do it all alone! It takes such a brave, strong pony to do what you do!” Princess Luna smiled warmly after hearing her sister’s thoughtful words, “And that pony is you. I walked a day in your shoes. I thought all you had to do was smile and be adored all the time, but I was wrong. There is so much more to it than that.”

Daybreaker laughed maniacally as she surrounded fire all over herself spirally, and Nightmare Moon was about to blast Daybreaker with a black and purple aura beam, but Daybreaker used the fire aura against the black alicorn. Starlight and Thomas panicked, as the boy hid underneath his auntie. Daybreaker started laughing maniacally, as her flames were spread on the pillars in the throne room.

“Don't do this to each other!” Starlight said. “Please! Please stop it! Please!” Thomas said, while he continued to cry. Daybreaker started walking over to Nightmare Moon. “In order to defeat Daybreaker, you need only to trust in your strength as I do,” Princess Luna said, as she and Princess Celestia smiled at each other.

Daybreaker lit up her horn, and so did Nightmare Moon, but as they shot magic from them, Princess Celestia stepped in and blocked both the auras with her wings. “You can't destroy me! I'm everything you want to be!” Daybreaker growled. “No, you're not! You are not real, and you will never exist again!” Princess Celestia said, as she spread her wings out and both Nightmare Moon and Daybreaker disappeared in a magical pop.

Princess Celestia landed on the ground, but laid there exhausted from the fight, and Princess Luna walked over to her and laid towards her level, “You did it!”

“Only because you were here. I don't know how you do this alone,” Princess Celestia said. “So, um, did you talk to yourself?” Princess Luna asked. “Um, a little,” Princess Celestia replied, and then she and Princess Luna laughed together. They then saw Starlight holding a sleeping Thomas in her foreleg. “Looks like he’s in a peaceful slumber now,” Princess Luna said. “Let’s go home. It’s probably time,” Princess Celestia said, and then they both returned to the waking world after a huge flash from Princess Celestia’s magic. As they got back, Starlight fell asleep next to Princess Celestia as the sun princess took Thomas and placed him in her forelegs so he can sleep with her. He was then snug and warm with her soft chest fur as he heard her heartbeat and hugged his Snuggle Bear teddy.

Princess Celestia smiled warmly and then gave him a kiss on the cheek, “Sweet dreams, little one.” Princess Celestia then rested her head on the pillow.

As morning appeared, Princess Celestia suddenly woke up, and felt like she had a good night’s sleep. “Mmm... what’s a pleasant experience that was,” she said. “Good morning, Princess Celestia!” Thomas exclaimed, as he was on her back. Princess Celestia suddenly jumped, and then laughed as she caused her breath. “Sorry. I brought us breakfast,” Thomas said, showing her a serving dish full of pancakes for them, including Starlight and Princess Luna. “I’m joining this time, since he and Starlight were kind enough to do it. Thomas wanted to surprise you in bed,” Princess Luna said. “Well, I’m flattered,” Princess Celestia said, as Thomas gave her a tray for herself, and then Princess Celestia and Luna had theirs with the mixed berries, and Thomas had his plain, and Starlight had hers with pineapples and peaches.

“Just like I usually do them,” Princess Celestia said. “I wanted to make this special for you and Princess Luna,” Thomas said. “I know you have to be perfect for everypony else, and you do an amazing job. But you don't have to do it for me all the time,” Princess Luna said. “I understand,” Princess Celestia said. “But it means a lot that you tried. I love you, sister.”

“I love you too,” Princess Luna said, as she and her sister hugged each other. Starlight was confused, “So... this was real. Or... was it not real, and this just happened now and-and not in my dream? I'm so confused.” Princess Celestia laughed, “It's all real. It was the right call going with your gut.”

“The map was wise to send you and young Thomas, Starlight. Nopony else would have been so bold as to do what you both did for us,” Princess Luna said. “That's a nice way of saying I came dangerously close to messing everything up,” Starlight said. Thomas nodded in agreement, “I’m just glad you’re back to being yourselves again.”

“It was just what we needed, dear. The experience has made us closer than ever,” Princess Celestia said, until both the princesses’ cutie marks switched back. “Wait. I'm not doing this,” Starlight said, until her cutie mark, and Thomas’s badge were glowing. “I believe that one means your mission is complete,” Princess Celestia said. “Wow! I can't wait to tell Twilight!” Starlight said.

Suddenly, Twilight appeared. “AUNT TWILIGHT!” Thomas exclaimed excitedly. “Sorry to disturb you, but I heard everything!” Twilight said. “I also got here because you forgot your toothbrush!” Twilight revealed Starlight’s toothbrush, which looked like Spike’s dragon design. “But this is a friendly visit!”

“It’s alright, Twilight,” Princess Celestia said. “Oh, uh, by the way, there's a field trip you need to make happen and a – ahem – timberwolf issue you need to address,” Princess Luna said, until Celestia was shocked. “W-What?”

Princess Luna then made a silly comment, “Oh! Look! There's the sun! Time for me to turn in!” Princess Luna then flew away, until Twilight turned towards Princess Celestia, “So, how did it go?”

“Oh, it went... rather well,” Princess Celestia replied, and then the two mares, and Thomas nodded in agreement, and they watched the sun rise over Canterlot together.

Baking with Pinkie Pie & Triple Threat

Meanwhile, at Sugarcube Corner, Mrs. Cake was giving their foals, Pumpkin and Pound Cake their bath. Pumpkin Cake was a baby unicorn filly with golden orange fur, a orange mane and tail with a blue bow, and blue eyes. Pound Cake was a baby pegasus colt with sandy tan fur, a brown mane and tail, and dark brown eyes.

Suddenly, Pinkie Pie came downstairs looking all excited. “Oh, good morning, Pinkie. What’s gotten you so happy?” Mrs. Cake asked. “Oh, didn’t you hear?! My little cutie nephew’s coming over to bake with his Auntie Pinkie Pie! Woohoo!” Pinkie Pie replied with excitement, until the two foals made an exciting reaction while splashing with their hooves, and laughed. “Aww... Aren’t you cutie little foals excited to see my little cutie nephew?! Are you?! Oh, yes you are! Yes you are!” Pinkie Pie then kissed their foreheads. “Now, he should be appearing... right... *door opens and bell dings* NOW!”

Thomas suddenly came in with his fire engine red jacket, safety yellow shirt, and bluish green athletic pants. “Hi, Aunt Pinkie Pie,” Thomas said, as he went over to his hyperactively auntie for a hug. “Hello, little cutie! How’s my little cutie of a nephew been?!” Pinkie Pie asked. “I’m a little tired, but doing good,” Thomas said. “Aww... that’s okay! Auntie Pinkie Pie’s going to take care of you for now!” she said. Thomas nodded, and then he saw the two foals making happy noises, when they were dried off. “Aww, they’re so cute!” Thomas said, as the Cake Twins were happy to see him until they crawled over to him and tapped their hooves on his feet. Thomas then leaned down and held them both against his chest. “They’re really cute, Mrs. Cake,” Thomas said. “Well, thank you, dearie,” Mrs. Cake said, as she walked over to greet the boy with a warm hug.

“You’re still the same sweet little boy we’ve always known,” Mrs. Cake said. Thomas nodded and then the foals in his embrace fell asleep. “I think these belong to you,” Thomas said, as Mrs. Cake took her foals and placed then on her back. “Why don’t you and your auntie do some baking together? We’ll take care of the rest,” Mrs. Cake said. “Okay,” Thomas said, as he and his Auntie Pinkie Pie went to the kitchen and got some materials and ingredients to do some baking.

“So, little cutie, what do you want to bake for fun?!” Pinkie Pie asked. “I wanna do cupcakes and cookies!” Thomas replied. “Cupcakes?! Cookies?! Woohoo! This is gonna be one special moment for baking some super yummy in the tummy sweets with my little cutie nephew!” Pinkie Pie exclaimed. “Let’s get started! But we should put some music on first!” Pinkie Pie put in a cd into a boom box and then music started playing.

They started off with making the cupcake batter by making several flavors of vanilla, chocolate, red velvet, apple flavored, and carrot flavored. When the cupcakes were being baked in the oven, they made several sugar cookies, snicker-doodles, chocolate chip cookies, and chocolate chip brownie cookies. Thomas even decorated his favorite type of sugar cookies with vanilla frosting and rainbow sprinkles on top.

When the cupcakes were then baked and fluffy, they put the icing on top, and decorated it with sprinkles for the vanilla, chocolate and red velvet cupcakes, apple slices for the apple cupcakes, and a big carrot shaped sprinkle for the carrot cupcakes.

“These look good, huh?” Thomas asked. “Yep! Now, all we need to do is give these to Mr. and Mrs. Cake, and then they’ll serve them to the customers!” Pinkie Pie said. “Well! These look amazing!” Mrs. Cake said. “With my little cutie nephew, he’s much more fun and a big help anytime!” Pinkie Pie replied. “By the way, Thomas sweetheart? You can take some of the treats you’ve made to go if you want. It’s on the house,” Mrs. Cake said. “Thank you, Mrs. Cake. I’ll stop by another time, too,” Thomas said, as he took some cookies and one cupcake to go. “Bye!”

Thomas then left the shop, until he saw Spike decorating Town Hall with a banner. “Is the banner even? Are the flowers in place? By which I mean "completely out of view". I'm pretty sure dragons don't like flowers. And what about the Ceremonial Dragon Fire Flame of Friendship? Is it still flaming?” Spike asked.

Thomas suddenly came over and saw a lot of decorations set up as well, until he bumped into a lavender colored foreleg. “Oh, I am so sorry, bug,” said a voice. Thomas looked up and saw Twilight helping him up. “What’s going on here, Aunt Twilight?” Thomas asked. “Spike’s been working really hard for a little something he’s expecting,” Starlight replied. “Hey, honey.”

“Hi, Aunt Starlight,” Thomas said. “So, who’s he expecting?”

“It’s Ember,” Spike said. “Reason one - I invited Dragon Lord Ember to Ponyville today. Reason two – the Dragon Lord is a dragon. Reason three – she's coming here to learn more about friendship.”

“EMBER’S COMING?! I MISSED HER TOO!” Thomas said. “That’s right, sweetie. And maybe she might be able to hang out with you as well,” Twilight said. “Cool!” Thomas said. “According to Ember's letters, the dragons are trying to be friends, but competing is in their nature, and it's leading to more and more fights,” Twilight explained. “Oh...” Thomas said. “Which brings me to to reason number four. The Dragon Lord wants my advice, and as the new official Equestrian friendship ambassador to the dragons, I can't let her down,” Spike said. “Don’t worry, Spike. I’m sure you’ll figure out something,” Thomas said. “Thanks, bud,” Spike said.

Suddenly, they heard wings fluttering, and they turned around and saw a tall changeling with beetle mandibles on his head. It was Thorax, the new ruler of the reformed Changelings. “Thorax?! You’re in Ponyville!” Spike said. “Hey, Spike. You invited me, remember?” Thorax said. “Oh, right,” Spike said. “Um, but since I’m in a middle of something right now... I’d like to spend a few minutes before my other guest arrives.”

“Oh, okay,” Thorax said. “Thorax!” Thomas said. “Hey, little guy. Glad you’re still alive,” Thorax said. “Yeah, and I’m glad you help my Momma save my life,” Thomas said. “Hey, just be glad you’re still breathing and still loved by your family,” Thorax said. Thomas nodded, and then gave the Changeling a hug. “Wasn’t expecting that, but okay,” Thorax said. “Sorry. He kinda missed you since you and the other changelings saved him from Chrysalis,” Starlight said. “Oh,” Thorax said. “Well, I’m glad you’re getting to know the changelings since they apologized for what they did. Oooh! I can't believe you did all this for me! Great banner! Love the stage! What's this flame thingy? Oh, it's pretty!”

“You invited Thorax over to Ponyville on the same day as Ember?!” Twilight asked while whispering to Spike. “Apparently,” Spike said. “That doesn't seem like a good idea. How are you gonna entertain them both?” Starlight asked.

“I don’t know. I completely forgot! Thorax wrote and said he needed to talk, and I told him to come over. I didn't realize it was the same day I invited Ember! What am I gonna do?!” Spike panicked “Well, maybe they'll like each other,” Thomas said. “Probably not. Ember is tough and self-assured and intimidating. And Thorax is...” Spike was cut off by Thorax. “Spike, I'm so glad you invited me! You are one of my closest, nicest, most caring, most understanding friends ever! Ooh! Is that ice in the shape of a dragon?”

“Yeah, I see your point. They might not get each other,” Starlight said. “But maybe with a little reasonable conversation with each other?” Thomas suggested. “Or worse – they'll hate each other!” Spike said. “And if the leader of the changelings and the Dragon Lord get into a fight... [gulps] I could be responsible for starting a war that could ruin Equestria as we know it!”

Spike started hyperventilating. “I'm sure that won't happen. Now pull it together,” Twilight said. “So, heh, Thorax, heh, everything good with you?” Spike nervously asked. Thorax sighed sadly, “Well, honestly, no. Not really. I have indigestion. Not sure if it's the new diet or stress. Or maybe it's both.”

“Wow. I’m sorry you feel that way,” Thomas said. “Yeah, it really could be both. And it might be affecting my sleeping, too. I'm a real tosser and turner.”

“Uh-oh!” Twilight whimpered. “Sounds like you really need to unwind.” Spike said. “Uh, how about a, uh... a trip to the castle? Heh. You can't miss that view.”

“Yes, the castle! I'll give you a personal tour!” Twilight exclaimed. “I’d like that,” Thorax said. “Aunt Twilight? Can I stay with Spike?” Thomas asked. “Go right ahead, sweetie. Starlight, could you watch over him?” Twilight asked. “Sure thing,” Starlight said, and then after the alicorn and the changeling went to the castle, Spike was being calmed down by Thomas as he rubbed the drake’s back and then Spike took some deep breaths.

They then heard something coming, and then it landed on the ground with a boom, until trumpets played a welcoming fanfare as they saw Ember stand up. “Hey, Ember!” Spike said, as he gave her a hug around her waist and laid his head on her belly. “Oh, right. The hug thing,” Ember chuckled. “EMBER!” Thomas exclaimed. “Hey, little guy! Long time, no see!” Ember said, until Thomas ran over to the blue female dragon for a hug, as she held him with both her arms. “I know. I missed you too,” she said. “Wow! This place has a lot of colors. In the Dragon Lands, everything's just rocks or the color of ash,” Ember said. “Yep. That’s why it’s called Ponyville,” Thomas said. “So, where is Twilight?” Ember asked. “She’s at the castle. Why?” Thomas asked. “Because I haven’t seen her in a while,” Ember said. “Oh...” Thomas replied. “We should go visit her then. Part of friendship is saying "hi" to your friends, right?” Ember asked. “Yeah, it is,” Starlight said. “But she’s a little busy right now.”

“Okay, well at least I can wait, right?” Ember asked. “Yeah! Wait for her!” Spike said nervously. They then went to the castle, and as they entered, Twilight and Thorax weren’t there. “I’m sure Twilight’s doing something important right now, so we should wait for her,” Spike said. “Good choice,” Starlight said. “Uh, you must be hungry from your travels. Please, I'd love to present you with an official friendship welcome banquet,” Spike suggested.

There was suddenly a loud crunching noise, and they saw Ember eating some of the crystals from the walls, “So this is something friends do? I could get used to this.” She then resumed chomping on the wall, until Thomas laughed since he thought she was being silly. “Actually, that's not food,” Starlight said. “Those are walls!” Thomas laughed. “Dragons love gems!” Spike said. “Fine, but you're telling Twilight what happened to her wall,” Starlight said. Ember then continued chomping on the wall. “Just keep her here,” Spike said to Thomas and Starlight, then he turned to Ember. “Okay, yeah!” He suddenly chuckled nervously, “Enjoy all the, uh... crystal... things!”

“Where are you going? I thought this was an official friendship banquet,” Ember asked with her mouth full. “Just gotta use the little dragons' room!” Spike replied as he zoomed away. Ember then chomped on a crystal bowl, until Thomas continued laughing. “What’s so funny?” Ember asked. “He’s laughing because he thinks you’re being funny,” Starlight said. “Hmm, no kidding,” Ember said, as she continued eating.

“So this is my comfy chair for fictional reads,” Twilight said, while showing Thorax the tour. “This is my studying chair because the hard back keeps me awake.” The door opened and Spike appeared. “Oh, Spike! I'm so glad you're here!” Thorax exclaimed, until he leaned over to him and whispered. “This castle visit is getting weird. Twilight really likes chairs. Oh, what happened to the ice cream?”

“What? Oh, right! Uh, they ran out. Heh. Hey, I'm really sorry, but I gotta borrow Twilight quickly,” Spike said, as he took Twilight out of the room and appeared again. “Be right back!”

“But we didn't get to talk yet!” Thorax said, until he groaned.

Twilight and Spike were in the map table room. “What now?” Twilight asked. “Ember's here!” Spike said. “I know. I saw you coming and had to distract Thorax by showing him chairs,” Twilight said. “Why did you bring Ember to the castle of all places?”

“I don't know! Ember was asking for you, Thorax wants to talk with me,” Spike panicked nervously. “We need to switch places! They might be getting suspicious.”

Twilight comforted Spike with a hug, “All we have to do is make both Thorax and Ember feel special and keep them apart for a few more hours. We can do this.” Spike then sighed, “You’re right, Twilight. I’m just gonna... go get some air for a little bit.” Spike then walked out of the room, and then walked out to Ponyville for a calming walk to relief his stress. “Spike, are you here? Ember's eaten all of Twilight's decorations, and—oh! Hey, Twilight! ” Starlight said. “Where’s Spike?”

“He’s taking a walk. He’s under a lot of pressure right now, so he needs to calm himself for now,” Twilight said. “Oh,” Starlight said. “By the way... we also brought Thomas over.”

“Where is he?” Twilight asked. “With Ember in the dining hall,” Starlight said. Twilight then went to go take a look.

Meanwhile, Ember laid down on the couch feeling bored, and Thomas suddenly laid on her chest as she held him with both arms. The door opened, and Twilight saw Ember resting on the couch, “Ember, there you are!” As Thomas woke up, Twilight then hugged Ember, “Okay, right. More pony hugs.” Twilight made a squee and an apologetic smile.

“How's your trip to Ponyville so far?” Twilight asked. “Well, I'm certainly learning a lot about friendship. I had no idea it was polite to decorate your walls in your friends' favorite foods!” Twilight Sparkle laughed nervously after seeing her walls eating and her decorations chewed on, “Oh, my.”

“Where'd Spike and Starlight go? I feel like I'm being avoided,” Ember asked, before she snorted. “Nooooo. They're just making sure everything is perfect for your welcome party later. In the meantime, how about I show you around town?” Twilight asked. “Sounds good. I can't exactly learn about friendship if I don't make new friends,” Ember said. Twilight then sighed, and then Ember walked out with Twilight.

Meanwhile, in the library room, Thorax felt stiff as he stretched his exoskeleton to make him comfortable on the chair. Starlight suddenly walked in, “Uh, hey, Thorax. Um, Twilight and Spike had some boring official paperwork to deal with, so looks like you and I get to hang out. What would you like to do?”

“But I wanted to talk with Spike. He said he'd be right back,” Thorax said. “Don’t worry, you will. Why don’t we... go grab a bite to eat?” Starlight suggested. “Yeah, I guess I’m a little bit hungry,” Thorax said. “Okay, since the dining room’s occupied, we’ll go out together until Twilight and Spike come back,” Starlight said, as she and Thorax left the castle.

Meanwhile, Spike was sitting on a bench feeling stressed out about Ember and Thorax meeting in a fighting situation, but he tried to get some help, until he heard a familiar voice. “Spike! There you are! Uh, done with your boring paperwork, I see.” Starlight laughed nervously, “Uh-huh. Uh-huh.”

“Yep,” Spike laughed nervously. “I am done with whatever Starlight says I was doing.”

“Thorax wanted to get out of the castle. I thought coming to town was a really, really great idea,” Starlight said. “Well, maybe now we can talk,” Thorax said. “Uh, sssssure,” Spike said. Starlight then let Thomas climb off her back, and he went to Thorax and Spike, I'll leave you guys to it.”

“First of all, I want to say thank you for having me over. I'm in a bit of a leadership pickle, and I could use some advice,” Thorax said. “Well, I definitely want to help you out as quickly as possible,” Spike said. “Here's my problem. There's this renegade group of changelings who still feed off of love. Even though I said, "Hey let's not do that anymore," they say, "Hey, this is how we've been doing things for hundreds of years..."” Thorax then crossfaded. “...but it's like they don't want to, even though I'm the leader and I have to...” Thomas suddenly went to go check on Ember and Twilight.

Ember suddenly saw some ponies chatting with each other, and then went to introduce herself, “Hello, I am Ember, daughter of Torch, winner of the Gauntlet of Fire, and lord of all dragons!” The ponies screamed and ran away after Ember roared at them. “Usually when I do that, the dragons are eager to meet me,” she said. “That's not how ponies make friends,” Twilight said. “Ah, I get it.” Starlight suddenly walked over, “Uh, you guys are in town, too?”

“What are you talking about? You've been with me this whole time,” Ember said. “No. I'm Starlight,” she said. Ember was suddenly beat, “Riiiight. I'm sorry, but you can't blame me. You both look and act so much alike.”

“WHAT?!” Twilight and Starlight asked in unison.

Thorax continued with his story with Spike, “...and they said to me they just keep saying the same thing. You know, I think my leadership problem started in childhood. I must've been three when...”

“...three's a different story, a-and you've definitely gotta hear it. But the story about my brother was when I was two... or was I one?”

Spike was suddenly confused, “And your point is?” Thorax sighed, “So what do you think I should do?”

“Uh, actually, I, uh... need a minute... alone... to, uh, really come up with great advice! I'll be right back,” Spike said as he ran over somewhere else. Thorax sighed, “Great. No problem. Leave me again. It's fine.”

“I'm just saying you're both purple ponies with purple hair. You both have cutie marks with sparkly things,” Ember said. Starlight chuckled, “Mine's more of a glimmer. Heh.”

“And my mane’s more of a navy blue,” Twilight said. “How is that different? Oh, good. Spike. Can you please tell these two I'm right? They look very similar,” Ember asked, while Twilight and Starlight gave Ember a angrily stern look. “Uh... Well, y'know, one thing friends do is let something go when it's upsetting somepony else,” Spike said. “But I'm right! Besides, who are you to be telling me about friendship? I've barely seen you all day!” Ember argued. “Uh, well, I've seen you,” Spike said. Ember suddenly got offended, “Are you calling me a liar?!” Spike chattered nervously.

“Hey! No one yells at my friend!” Thorax yelled, as he then transformed into a bear, and growled like a bear. “Spike, get away from the bear!” Ember yelled. “Actually, the bear is a changeling. And he's quite gentle,” Twilight said. “Not anymore! Thorax said, as he roared like a bear, and then ran towards Ember. Spike screamed, “My worst fears are happening!”

No!” Thomas said, as he and Spike stood in the way. Thorax panted, “Back away, guys! I'm not gonna let this dragon harm a single strand of hair or scale on your back!”

You back away! I'm not gonna let you harm them!” Ember shouted, until she got confused. “Wait. Did you say you're not gonna let me harm them?”

“Yeah!” Thorax said. “But that's what I'm doing!” Ember said. Thorax suddenly changed back to normal. “Uh, what?” he asked. “Yeah, what?” Ember asked. Spike somehow panicked, “Equestria as we know it is over! The war that pits changeling against dragon is about to begin! And it's all my fault! My title of Equestria's friendship ambassador is a lie—!” Thomas suddenly calmed him down. “Easy, Spike. It’s gonna be okay. Just take a deep breath and calm down,” Thomas said, and then Spike took a few deep breaths. “Oh. Hey. You guys aren't fighting?”

“Why would we be fighting?” Ember asked. “Because he accidentally invited you both over to Ponyville on the same day?” Thomas replied. “So what?” Ember and Thorax asked in unison. “So I... was trying to keep you apart because I didn't think you'd get along,” Spike explained. “But he was afraid you might start a war on Equestria that might doom us all,” Thomas said. “Oh. I get it. You thought he wouldn't like me just because I'm a dragon and I'm bad at friendship?” Ember asked angrily. “No, no, of course not! But— Wait. Isn't that why you're here?” Spike asked. “I can say I'm bad at friendship. You can't say it about me! You know what? I don't wanna talk about it,” Ember said, as she flew away in frustration. “Wait, please!” Spike sighed, and then turned to Thorax. “I'm sorry.”

“No, no, it's cool. You thought I would be too soft, and someone like Ember would never respect me. Just like my own changelings!” Thorax said, as he went away in sadness. “No, that's not it! Thorax, wait! Oh, no... What have I done?” Spike asked, as he began to cry, but Twilight came over to comfort him. “Shhhhhh... It’s okay, Spike. It’s okay,” she said. Thomas then went to go look for Ember and Thorax.

Thorax was at Saddle Lake skipping rocks feeling sad. Thomas suddenly found him, and walked over to the changeling, “Thorax?”

“Oh, hey, Thomas. Why aren’t you at Ponyville?” Thorax asked. “I just wanted to make sure if you and Ember were doing okay,” Thomas replied, as he sat next to Thorax. “Why are you still here?” Ember asked. Thorax sighed, “Because I'm having trouble leading my pack, so I don't really wanna go home.” Ember was shocked, “Wait, you're in charge?” Ember chuckled. “Oh, boy. You need to be more assertive.”

“Well, that's my problem,” Thorax said. “I don't know how! I tried asking them to please follow my directions. I even offered a prize, and then—“ Ember put a clawed finger on Thorax’s lips, “Shhh! Stop talking.” Thorax was beat. “That's how you do it,” Ember said. “Whoa! That just gave me chills,” Thorax said. “Yeah, me too,” Thomas said. “Oh. Thomas. I didn’t see you here,” Ember said, as she lifted him up and gently brought him in for a hug. “I know you have it in you. You turned into a bear to defend both Spike and Thomas, who’re like friends I’ve never had.”

“Huh, I guess I can be tough when I'm defending my friends, but when I'm just enforcing my rules, I-I feel unsure of myself,” Thorax said. “There's nothing to be unsure of. You're the leader for a reason. Make a decision and let it be known that the decision is final. And if that doesn't work, turn into a bear, or whatever it is your species does,” Ember said. “Oh, well, that's good advice,” Thorax said. “I know it is,” Ember said.

“So what's your deal? Why do you think you're so bad at friendship?” Thomas asked, as he was still held by Ember. “I don't want to talk about it,” Ember said. “Oh, you have to! How else are you gonna solve your problems?” Thorax asked. Ember lifted up a rock, “Through feats of strength and fire duels, of course. [grunted as she threw the rock into the air, and roared as she breathed fire at it, until the big boulder exploded.

“Uh, how does that help?” Thomas asked. “Crushing another dragon in competition establishes my dominance and makes me feel great,” Ember replied. “Right, but, uh, how do you think they feel?” Thomas asked. “Humiliated! Ashamed! They'd probably wanna run away and bury themselves under a rock and... never come out. They're probably sad. Kinda low. Definitely not happy,” Ember said. “That's because that kind of competition can divide you. And it doesn't get to the heart of the issue. Talking about your feelings does,” Thorax said. Ember suddenly sneezed fire, “Ugh! I think I'm allergic to feelings.” Thomas suddenly laughed, until Ember smirked, “Oh, you think that’s funny, huh? Well... how about this for a change?!” Ember suddenly ticked Thomas’s sides with her claws gently, and it caused the boy to laugh and scream. “You know you don't have to be sappy or huggy-feely about it. But you should let your friends know how you feel,” Thorax said. Ember saw Thomas resting himself against her scaly chest, “Uh, I know where we can start.” Thorax then realized who she meant, “Where? Ohhhh. Spike. Hah. I got there.”

Back in Ponyville, Twilight, Spike and Starlight were cleaning up the mess and taking down the banner. “I think they're gone. They probably never want to see me again,” Spike said. Spike suddenly saw Thorax and Ember land on the ground. “Or they want to see you now,” Starlight said. Spike gulped, “Uh.. Hehehehe... Hey, you guys.”

“Guess what, Spike,” Ember said. “I know. I'm so sorry,” Spike said. “Let me talk about this!” Ember said. “Spike,... I... feel... mad.” She then sighed.“Okaaaay... That's a good first attempt. Now maybe try to be more specific?
Ember cracked her limbs, and then breathed deeply, “I'm...” She sighed. “upset!

“I know. You have every right to be,” Spike said. “He was trying to make sure nothing bad would happen,” Thomas said. “I know I do! And I know I need to tell you how I feel because my friend Thorax said it would make me feel better. And it does!” Ember said. “Yeah! And I have no problem telling you what you did was wrong because my friend Ember is helping me be more assertive!” Thorax said. “I think you’re scaring him,” Thomas said. “Thorax? Ember?”

“Yeah?” Ember and Thorax asked in unison. “I was a part of it, too. But I was only doing it to help avoid a war happening,” Thomas said. “You guys should be mad at me, not him. I was so worried about how it could go wrong, I didn't even think about how it could go right,” Spike said. “Can you forgive me?”

“I really do feel better. So, yeah. I'm good,” Ember said. “Hah. Me, too,” Thorax said, and then Spike and Thomas were brought into a group hug by Thorax, as Ember joined in. Ember groaned, “Again?” Spike and Thomas started laughing.

Spike then through loudspeaker, “So, as a show of unity, I present the Dragon Fire Flame of Friendship to both Dragon Lord Ember and Thorax, leader of the changeling pack! May the flame of friendship burn for eternity.” The ponies then started cheering, and then Thorax and Ember lifted both Spike and Thomas up in the air for thanks.
