Invitations

Every pony in Ponyville knows that Pinkie Pie is one serious party pony, so when they received the news that the Cakes were holding a Hearth's Warming party at Sugercube Corner, who could refuse her invitations? Rainbow Dash said she'd get there faster than it takes her to clear the clouds, and Apple Jack said that Pinkie's party would be better than the Sisterhooves Social! Fluttershy was preoccupied, though, due to the fact that Angel, her pet rabbit, was catching one of the nastiest flues she claimed to have ever seen. Rarity couldn't make it either, because she had a big sale on winter outfits going on at her shop, and her customers wouldn't cease their hoofs even for Hearth's Warming.
That only left Twilight to invite. Pinkie knew that if Twilight had plans, she'd find some sort of way to re-schedule them for a different date. The snow that had blanked the earth around her library gave the impression that the planet was in a deep sleep that would last until next March, which Pinkie was perfectly fine with. Snow was fun! And the snow around Twilight's library was extra wet from the icicles melting from the branches. Pinkie bounced merrily up to Twilight's door and knocked three times. In no time at all Pinkie could hear the sound of a lock being turned. The door opened half way, and Spike's head appeared through the gap, and Pinkie blew a party blower.
"Hia, Spike!" She said loudly, "I was wondering if-"
"Ssh!" Spike shushed, rudely cutting off Pinkie. He looked behind him as if checking on something, and then said to Pinkie, "Do you want Twilight's concentration to be broken?"
"What do you mean?" Pinkie asked in a confused tone. Spike beckoned her inside and closed the door silently behind them. Twilight was in the middle of the library, staring at a green reef that was levitating in midair above her head. Pinkie started walking towards her, but Spike pulled her back with a cautious look on his face. Several seconds passed, and Twilight finally pointed to the reef with her horn and began casting a spell. Her eyes screwed in concentration, Twilight focused her magic on the reef, and Pinkie noticed that it started growing and changing shape. A few seconds later, the reef had changed into a pine tree. Twilight relaxed, and the tree land on the ground stump first and didn't fall over.
"Holy casserolie, Twilight!" Pinkie exclaimed, bouncing up and down again, "That was stupendously stupendous!"
Twilight turned to face her, and she giggled at the sight of Pinkie jumping up and down excitedly, "Alright, Pinkie, when's the party this time?"
"You knew?" Pinkie asked, and she stopped jumping, "How did you know? How did she know?" she asked Spike, who shook his head in an unsure way.
Twilight giggled again, "You're very predictable when you're wound up, Pinkie."
"Oh, OK then! The party is at Sugercube Corner, and it's gonna be great!" Pinkie stated excitedly, "There's gonna be food, there's gonna be presents, and friends, and family, and food, and friends, and more food, and family, and even more food, and I can hardly wait!" she began bouncing again.
"Calm down, Pinkie!" Twilight said hurriedly as she held onto Pinkie to prevent her from leaping, "Take deep breaths!"
Pinkie began taking deep but quick breaths, but after a few inhales she began to calm down. Twilight let go of her, and she didn't bounce.
"Now, when was this party?" Twilight asked.
"Tomorrow evening at six," Pinkie said, "Don't miss it, it's exquisite!"
A disappointed look spread across Twilight's face, and Pinkie mimicked her.
"What's wrong, Twilight?" she asked, "Do you have something planned for tomorrow at six?"
"Sadly," Twilight answered, "There's a convention that happens every Hearth's Warming that takes place in Canterlot for students who attend Princess Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns, and this year Princess Luna is showing up for the first time ever! It's such a big event, and I'd hate to miss it. And since there's no way I can possibly be in two places at once-"
"Preposterous!" Pinkie said dramatically, "Who says you can't be at two places at once?"
Twilight raised an eyebrow. "Logic."
"Logic schmogic!" Pinkie said, "Just teleport from party to party and then you won't have to miss anything!"
Twilight thought about this for a minute, and a smile spread across her face.
"Pinkie, you're a genius!" she said happily, "Why didn't I think of that? I'll do it!"
"Great!" Pinkie said excitedly, "And I'll help you prepare!"
"I don't know, Pinkie," Twilight said with a reluctant facial expression, "You'll need to know some scientific terminology if you want to help me."
"You mean scientific terms?"
"Yes, Pinkie, scientific terms," Twilight said as she pulled used her magic to pull out a book titled Scientific Terms for Dummies.
"What sort of scientific terms?" Pinkie asked curiously.
"Well," Twilight said, flipping through the book and stopping on a page marked Dark Matter, "Take this word for example. Scientists think space is full of mysterious, invisible mass. So what do they call it?"
"Dark Matter?"
"Exactly!"
"So scientists come up with wild theories, but then give them dull, unimaginative names?"
"Pinkie," Twilight said sternly as she closed the book, "Scientists make amazing discoveries each day and give them those names for a reason."
"I like to say 'Quark'!" Pinkie said happily, "Quark, Quark, Quark, Quark!"
"OK, then," Twilight said uncertainly, "I see your scientific vocabulary is more advanced than I thought. I guess we could give it a try!"
"Yippee!" Pinkie said loudly as she started bouncing again, "I can't wait to get started! Speaking of getting started, when should we get started?"
"Well, it's just about noon right now," Twilight said, thinking hard, "So... let's try three?"
"Okey dokey!" Pinkie said cheerfully, "See ya later, Twilight!" She then bounced out of the library and back into the cold weather, and Spike closed the door behind her.
