Drizzle attempts to help his struggling friend with her magic.

Flusk Flurry had been always labelled a low-level unicorn ever since she was a filly. It was believed that her magic would never mature to the level of an average unicorn's power and she would be stuck only being able to do levitation and a little bit of teleportation for the rest of her life. Her best friend Drizzle Dots doesn't believe that and decides to help her out one day. Will her magic succeed against everything she's been told or will it fail?...Who knows. Perhaps the fate of her magic will decide her future..

Just a little gift for my best friend Pizza Lord that has to do with the past of the alternate universe he's developing. Drizzle Dots is also his oc and not mine.

“Can I take the blindfold off now?”

“Nope, just keep walking. We’re almost there.”

“I’m pretty sure you said we were almost there ten minutes ago. You lied to me.”

“I had to keep you excited for the surprise. Walking and silence don’t really do that.”

“Well then talk to me!”

“I am.”

“Oh shut up, Drizzle.” Flusk laughed.

“Annnnd..We’re here!”

Flusk went to go grab at her blindfold with her hooves when Drizzle levitated the blindfold off her eyes instead. They were in the middle of some kind of natural park with many green trees and squirrels and birds running across branches and flying about. There was a little bench in front of them with a wrapped gift that looked like the shape of a book sitting on it. They also seemed to be the only two ponies in the park.

“A present?” Flusk asked, trotting up to it curiously. “It’s not even my birthday.”

“It doesn’t need to be your birthday for me to get you presents, silly.”

Flusk levitated the present up to her face, studying its shape and wrapping. She seemed to be trying to guess what it was before unwrapping it.

“Open it already!”

“Okay, okay!”

She used both a combination of her magic and her hooves to tear away the beautiful flower wrapping. She began to see a purple book underneath the wrapping along with the word ‘M’. She figured it was a book but she couldn’t have been quite sure when she was first looking at it. Eventually, she tore the rest of the wrapping off and revealed the book. It was quite large and had many pages it seemed.

“..Unicorn Magic for Beginners?” Flusk read off the title of the book, seeming a little confused.

“Yup. I’m going to teach you some magic today.” Drizzle grinned.

Flusk’s jaw dropped, looking at him in complete surprise for a moment when suddenly her excitement disappeared. She frowned down at the book now.

“But..I can’t do anything more than levitate things..Sometimes teleportation..”

“You can’t just say..Well..You can’t. You have to say that you’re going to try and improve your magic.”

“But it’s not like that! You know my magic level is low for my age and I really don’t think that’s ever going to change.” Flusk folded her ears.

She felt her cheeks suddenly being squished by Drizzle’s hooves as he forced her to look up at him. He had quite a serious look on his face when she looked up at him.

“You shouldn’t just give up because of your disadvantages. Anything is possible if you work at it. I know that isn’t true and that you do have powerful magic inside of you. You just won’t let it come out because of what you believe.”

“But it’s tru-“

He suddenly pressed his hoof against her mouth to stop her from talking. She made an annoyed face at him but she let him speak.

“We will just try some spells and if you can’t do any of them at least a little bit, then we can stop and you don’t even have to touch that spellbook ever again. However, if you do manage to do it, I think you’ll want to continue and want to keep that book I gave you. I can even keep teaching you if you’d like. Alright?”

Flusk hesitated before nodding as he removed his hoof. Drizzle levitated the book, flipping through a few pages as he scanned through the words, looking for a spell that wasn’t too difficult for Flusk. He finally stopped on a page as he looked up at her again.

“So you can levitate things and sometimes do teleportation, right?”

“Yes?”

“Well, why don’t we try some transfiguration!” Drizzle said excitedly.

“Uhh..I have no idea what transfiguration is and judging by the word..It sounds really difficult..”

Drizzle laughed, setting down the magic book. “It can be if you’re trying to change your appearance into a specific thing. Transfiguration is changing something into another thing or perhaps making it look like something else. It doesn’t completely change you but it does change your appearance as I once said. However, I do know there is high level unicorns out there that have completely changed themselves into specific things. However, we’re not focusing on changing you today.”

“We’re not? But..Isn’t that the point?”

“Sort of but no. We’re focusing on changing objects since they’re smaller and easier to practice on when you’re first starting.”

“Oh..Alright then.”

Drizzle waved her over with his hoof as they now stood in front of a tall apple tree in the park. Its leaves were full of bright juicy red apples. Drizzle levitated a few down on the grass, giving them all a little space from each other.

“Let me demonstrate first.”

His horn glowed purple as he focused his magic on one of the apples. A burst of magic suddenly shot out of his horn and enveloped one of the apples. It twitched a bit when it suddenly turned into an orange.

“Woooah!” Flusk gasped.

“Now you try.”

“M-Me?..But I can’t-“

“What did I say earlier?..” Drizzle interrupted.

Flusk sighed. “Fine..I’ll try.”

Flusk turned her gaze to the second apple which was beside the newly made orange. She bowed her head as she closed her eyes tightly, trying to get her magic to work. A few sparks came off her horn when suddenly it glowed purple. She scrunched up her muzzle, trying to focus on the apple in front of her. Her horn sent a burst of magic at the apple as it twitched and moved a bit. Both Flusk and Drizzle watched in anticipation when it suddenly stopped and did nothing..Absolutely nothing.

“I told you I couldn’t do it.” Flusk said, sounding rather defeated.

“Just because you can’t do transfiguration, doesn’t mean you can’t do other spells.”

“Oh yeah? Like what.”

Drizzle picked up the book again and flipped through the many pages. He soon found the next spell he’d try with Flusk.

“You said you could do teleportation, right?”

“Yes but only sometimes..”

“Hmm..Let's see how far you can teleport.”

Flusk was about to say something back when Drizzle disappeared with a poof and reappeared again beside a nearby tree. It wasn’t quite far at all but Flusk knew she’d most likely struggle with this.

“Try to follow me!” He yelled.

Flusk sighed and focused on her magic once again. She suddenly disappeared with a poof as a grin appeared on Drizzle’s face. He was happy to know she could at least do a spell out of the book..Or..Could she? His grin shifted to a look of worry as he noticed she hadn’t reappeared again.

“Flusk?..”

There was a poof noise as Flusk appeared in the exact same spot she was before. She seemed rather excited and looked around her surroundings but frowned to see she hadn’t even moved one bit.

“I can’t even do a spell I thought I was able to do...” Flusk folded her ears.

“Where did you even go? You were gone for like a minute.”

“I think I was in the magic realm. It was all sparkly and there was no ground. I was just standing on air.”

“Well..You did teleport somewhere at least.”

“But I didn’t want to go there.”

Drizzle picked up the magic book again and thought to himself as he flipped through the pages. There wasn’t one spell so far that Flusk was able to get..Well, if you count teleporting as one even though her magic didn’t teleport her where she was supposed to go. He didn’t want Flusk to give up hope so soon. He just had to convince her that she wasn’t weak and that her magic was useful. And then..He got an idea. A crazy idea that might just work..

“Hey, Flusk, feel free to take a break. You earned it. I wanted to try a new spell out anyways while we’re here.”

“You sure?”

“Of course. Besides, I need some space for the spell.”

“Alrighty then.”

Flusk trotted off and sat on the bench where the magic book previously was sitting, dangling her back hooves off the bench and kicking them back and forth. She was relieved to have a break considering how terrible she was doing currently.

“Here goes nothing..”

He set the magic book down and began to conjure magic around his horn. It swirled in circles when it suddenly formed a little dome around his horn that began to expand outwards. She watched in awe as he soon had a dome of magic around him.

“Wow, that’s amazing!” Flusk grinned.

“Heh, it isn’t really anything special, it’s just a simple-“

BANG

An explosion suddenly went off as Drizzle’s magic around him sounded like fireworks going off. Flusk watched in horror as she saw a unicorn figure go flying through a massive amount of smoke and towards some trees.

“DRIZZLE!”

Flusk never galloped so hard in her life as she followed the trail of smoke in the air towards the trees where the unicorn was being sent flying to.

“Drizzle, DRIZZLE!”

She screamed his name when suddenly she felt a burst of energy within her. Something she had never felt before in her entire life..Was this..Her magic? She heard a poof noise and suddenly felt as light as a feather and rather cold when she realized she was falling through the air right beside Drizzle who was currently unconscious.

“Drizzle!”

She kicked her back legs and flew closer to Drizzle, quickly hugging him tightly as they both began to spin in the air while falling. She was starting to feel a bit motion sick other than just the fear and excitement of falling but she didn’t really care. She was more focused on her unconscious friend than what was happening right now.

“Drizzle, you have to wake up! Please, wake up!” She yelled, shaking her friend.

He didn’t wake up unfortunately as his body continued to limply fall through the air. If he didn’t wake up and use his magic to save them, they were going to die pretty painfully.

“Drizzle..I-I’m sorry..I wish we never came here...I..I wish I could do something!”

And just like that, her horn suddenly sparkled brightly with purple magic. She felt the same feeling of the cold air and feeling light as she and Drizzle suddenly fell softly to the ground with a little crunch of the grass.

“W-What?..How...Wait..Did I teleport us to the ground again?”

She gently touched her hoof to her horn, poking it. It did nothing as she assumed it would.

“Wait..Drizzle!”

She crouched to his side, putting her ear to his chest. She thankfully heard a heartbeat and sighed with relief. However, she couldn't be relieved over his current physical state. There was blood dripping down the side of his head as there was a huge scratch across his forehead along with tiny scratches across his legs and bruises. He would be fine but those wounds needed to be taken care of..

"There's no hospital nearby...Ugh, come on invisible force! You saved me and him from falling to our deaths. Heal him for me, please!"

She lied her face on his chest, still hearing his heartbeat as she waited for something to happen. Nothing..Once again. She folded her ears and sighed, now resting her cheek on his chest instead and staring up at the blue sky.

"Drizzle.."

She suddenly heard something zoom past her ears and blow at her mane a little as she looked up. There was now purple magic swirling around Drizzle as she gasped, staring up at her horn to see it glowing with the same purple magic. The magic split up in different directions and began to cover all his wounds like a bandaid. Within seconds, his wounds were already vanishing underneath her transparent magic, making it seem like nothing had happened in the first place. A large amount of magic covered the large scratch on his forehead and physically began knitting the skin back together as the blood that had dripped down his head vanished as well. The process seemed painless since Drizzle didn't get up out of nowhere and scream..Well..Maybe because he couldn't but either way, whatever this spell was, it was quite useful. It wasn't long before the magic finished its task and disappeared as her horn stopped glowing.

"Oh, my gosh..It worked.." Flusk mumbled to herself, still in astonishment over what just happened.

"Flusk?.."

"Drizzle! You're awake!"

The dark unicorn ran over and embraced her friend tightly as Drizzle only stared up at her.

"I was so worried about you..Don't ever do that again, alright? At least read up on a spell a little first before you try casting it." Flusk said, getting a little teary-eyed.

"Heh, whatever you say miss 'low-level unicorn'. I saw you use your magic back there. Magic like that and I won't even need to be careful because you can just save me instead."

"W-What?"

She let him go now, looking at him a little startled.

"Well, I guess I better come out with the truth now," Drizzle said, grinning a little as he got up from the ground. "I didn't actually get hurt. I faked it. I used a simple explosion spell and some fireworks and launched myself into the sky. I did get hurt a little bit though obviously from flying through a few sharp branches and smacking into a few things but that whole thing was faked for the most part."

"WHAT?!"

"But hey, I was right. I knew you had powerful magic ins-"

He suddenly got slapped across the face, interrupting him mid-sentence. He stumbled backward a bit, rubbing at his cheek with a bit of an annoyed look on his face.

"Ow..That really wasn't necessary you kn-...Oh..."

Flusk stood there with tears rolling down her cheeks as she exhaled shakily.

"I-I thought you were hurt for real..W-Why would you do that?.."

"I..." He sighed. "Look, I'm sorry, Flusk. It was a crazy idea but it was also a crazy idea that worked. I just wanted you to see what I saw..That you do have powerful magic. You just needed help getting it out. I knew you cared about me a lot and that..Well..You know what happened already."

He trotted over to her and hugged her.

"It wasn't my intention to make you upset. I just want you to see the potential you have and that you're not weak. You are powerful and you always will be. Just..Believe in yourself, Flusk."

She sighed and hugged him back, closing her eyes.

"I'll try.."

"You are powerful and you always will be. Just..Believe in yourself, Flusk."

She heard his voice echo in her mind as she stared up at the fiery maned stallion, watching her closely with an evil grin on his face with her son lying on the ground injured beside him. Although her magic worked in a strange way..She knew she could control it for this moment she dreaded with all her heart.

"I tried..I really did.."
