Detective Mi Amore Cadenza (Or just Cadence, as she preferred to be called) was the best darn investigator in the entire of Equestria! She could solve any case in the blink of an eye (Or as her rainbow-maned colleague put it, ten seconds flat.).

Princess Celestia's prized imported Balegian chocolates gone missing? Solved in an hour.
Secret killer running rampant in Manehattan? Nopony's secret was revealed after a day of Detective Cady on the case.
Prince Blueblood's coltfriend suspected of cheating? Cadence proved there was no nepotism in him getting into Canterlot University.
Mysterious embezzlement of public funds in Cloudsdale? If it weren't for the renowned detective, nopony would've ever known that Cloudsdale's bureaucracy desperately needed some reform.

But of course, as witty and sharp as our heroine was, a new seemingly unbeatable foe had appeared. One that despite Cadence's greatest efforts, somehow always managed to evade capture. A high-class mare who nopony would've ever suspected if Cadence had never finally revealed her identity. It was none other than…Fleur de Lis!

Indeed, even though she had stolen the crown jewels, rare artifacts, antique valuables, and even the Apple family's super secret dessert recipes, Detective Cadence had never been able arrest the dastardly, and admittedly gorgeous, Fleur de Lis.

Why? Because… Well, you see, the villainous mare had stolen what Cadence had thought to be un-steal-able (Or at least that's what Pinkie Pie said). Fleur de Lis had taken Detective Cadence's heart for herself! And not just her heart, but also her thoughts, her dreams, her desires, her appetite, her focus- her everything!

Perhaps Cadence would've thanked Fleur for helping her realize she was attracted to ponies of all genders. If she hadn't gracefully kicked Cadence in the face during a botched robbery, that is.

Nevertheless, none of that mattered, for tonight, Detective Cadence would be winning back her reputation. How? By laying out what literally kept her empire together as a trap: the Crystal Heart. In a foal-proof plan, when Fleur would attempt to purloin the Crystal Heart, she would at last overpower her beautiful nemesis and defeat her once and for all!

...Hm, now that Cady thought about it, maybe her plan wasn't that foal-proof. If it was, then why was she galloping after the hot- heinous Fleur down the halls? "Stop!" Cadence shouted as she dragged Fleur by her tail in her magic. Fleur simply smacked the detective with her fluffy tail. Cadence briefly wondered if her mane smelled just as nice before suddenly remembering she had a master criminal to catch.

Trying a new tactic, she grasped Fleur's foreleg in her telekinesis and made her spin around. The unexpected movement prompted Fleur to slip and fall on the floor with a dainty yelp. As luck would have it, Cadence found herself nose-to-nose with the light pink mare. Violet eyes stared admiringly-

"Alright, fine!" a teenaged Cadence exclaimed in exasperation as she threw up her hooves. Crossing her forelegs, she continued with a huff "I know. It was cheesy. Way too cheesy. But you know I'm no good at story-telling!"

Her marefriend, Fleur, tittered innocently before gently nuzzling her and saying in that Prench accent Cadence found utterly adorable "Yes, I know, my dear. Perhaps it wouldn't have been a best-selling novel, but for what it's worth, I did enjoy it." Then, she offered Cadence "How about I brush your hair while you have another cookie?" The chocolate oatmeal cookies the fillies had made during their sleepover were rather salty and not exactly very easy to chew. Yet, taking one and biting into it, Cadence savoured the sweetness of remembering how she made it with her marefriend. Needless to say, the generous amount chocolate frosting they had applied onto the cookies had helped quite a bit.

As Fleur took off Cadence’s blue bow and began combing her silky mane, the princess giggled at the memory of Fleur's flustered cheeks when she had gotten some of the frosting on her petite snout.

Sixteen year old Cadence had invited her marefriend (Or as everypony else other than Princess Celestia knew her, best friend) for a sleepover at her place in the Canterlot Castle. They had gone through every fun activity they could think of, and were finally ready for bed.

Lying in Cadence's queen sized bed beside each other, the two fillies stayed silent for a few minutes until Cadence asked quietly in a hesitant voice "Fleur, you aren't mad at me for making you the villain, are you?" In reply, Fleur laughed and pecked Cadence's cheek, saying "Of course not, darling! Especially not after giving me such a lovely love interest." A blush appeared on Cadence's cheeks as she cuddled her marefriend with a smitten smile "Thanks Fleur, you're really the best marefriend a filly could ask for." She received another kiss on the cheek from Fleur who said softly "Thank you, Cady, for giving me a wonderful year of dating you."

They both recalled how they had first begun dating. Simply friends at first, she had realized she was a bit more than just pretty. The way she'd casually glance at her became longer and more attentive. Those fleeting touches and accidental brushes became more wanting. Thinking about her made her feel warmer. How she felt about her was confusing, but made her heart beat fast. It couldn’t really be defined as merely a school-filly’s appreciation of a close friend. She was truly enamored with her. But how to tell her?

At last, it was Fleur who found the courage to pass Cadence a note, after she had finished with helping her in the study of Fleur’s native language. Written in Fleur’s elegant cursive, it said 'I really like you. But not only as a friend.' And the surprised but delighted princess, without meeting her crush’s eyes, had whispered shyly "Me too."

The two young mares stared admiring into each other's violet eyes, for real this time. Then, Cadence tapped Fleur’s nose with a hoof “Boop.” They snickered as Fleur returned the gesture, before sharing a kiss. Their first kiss had been quick and tentative. But as their passion grew, their kisses grew to reflect that.

Burying her face in Fleur's neck after a make-out session, Cadence sighed blissfully. Wrapping her forelegs around her lover, Fleur kissed Cadence's forehead, eliciting a giggle from her. "Have you come up with a ship-name for us yet?" Cadence asked playfully. Tapping her chin with a hoof thoughtfully, Fleur murmured "Ship-name? Not really. Let me think…" Cadence suggested "I was thinking, 'Fleurdence' maybe?" Fleur answered "Ah, that's a good one. 'Cadelis' was all I could only come up with."

"Cadylis? Hm…" the bubble-gum coated filly repeated musingly, as the name gave her inspiration. "I just had an idea! How about when summer comes, we start selling candied flowers and name them 'Candylis'? We could raise money for charity!" Cadence exclaimed enthusiastically. Tenderly nuzzling her, Fleur de Lis agreed "And that's why I fell for you in the first place. Your heart seems to have a place for anypony."

"But you know you have a very special place in my heart, because, well…I love you."

"I love you, too."

Closing their eyes, the young lovers snuggled up against each other and slowly drifted off to sleep, only to meet again in their dreams.
