> The Abyssal Requiem > by GhoulDash97 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Arc One - Ten Years Later... > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- It was a cold and rainy night as a hooded figure approached what appeared to be a statue of three beings. The beings in question were called The Burning Sun, The Silent Night and The Corrupt Abyss. The hooded figure looked at the three long with hard, visible anger not because of them, but because of their failure. They would visit this place everyday for the past ten years, but their feelings never went away, no matter how hard they tried. After a few minutes of silence, they looked up and with a single breath, spoke.  “I’m sorry.” . . .  Elsewhere, one pony was in front of a crowd, newcomes that had shown up recently. However, among the group, there was one who had always been there and always listened to the pony no matter the time or day. That pony was none other than Flurry Heart. After a few moments, the pony spoke.  “Welcome, newcomers, to the land of New Equestria. This is the place where everypony can live in peace and harmony. We’ve rebuilt and salvaged everything here for the past ten years. As many of you know, a battle took place here and many lives were lost. We’ve built a memorial for the six, heroic ponies who risked their lives protecting us from the wrath of the Abyss. Applejack, Fluttershy, Rarity, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, and last, but most certainly not least, Twilight Sparkle. There are two more individuals, two that used to rule all over Equestria. Princess Celestia, the controller of the light. And Princess Luna, the controller of the dark. Together, they managed and looked over many threats and were around much longer than the six. However, as with all heros, they were defeated… but not before sealing away the evil that plagued our land and restoring peace across the lands. To this day, they're still remembered for their heroic actions. Some fell to darkness, but despite that, their legacy remains here…" After she finished, the newcomers asked several questions, all of which Tempest answered without issue. Once she told them where to go, all but one went to where they were told. That pony was none other than Flurry Heart. Trotting over to the hornless unicorn, she jumped on her back and hugged her neck. “I love this story! Especially at the end where the monster gets sealed away! Were the Royal Sisters always this powerful?” Flurry Heart asked as she jumped off Tempest. “Well, one controlled the sun and one controlled the moon. That should give you some clear insight on their power scale.” Tempest said with a clever smile. “I wish I could've met them. They must be really nice alicorns. But Twilight was the shining star of this story. Had it not been for her and her friends, I don’t think we would be talking right now.” the inquisitive alicorn said while she and Tempest looked at the statues. “You have no idea…” Tempest said as her smile faded. “Did I say something wrong?” Flurry Heart asked, worried that she offended her foalsitter. “No, no. I was just thinking about something. Is it almost time for your tutoring?” Tempest asked, raising a playful eyebrow. “Aw, but tutoring’s boring. Can I hear the story one more time?” Flurry Heart whined. “Really? Are you sure you didn’t fall asleep during the grand tour?” Tempest teased. “I did not! I was just resting my eyes.” Flurry Heart pouted. “Oh? A sleepy princess? That’s news to me. I couldn’t imagine what would become of Equestria if the sleep princess inherited the throne.” Tempest said, teasing Flurry Heart even further. “I’m awake! And what about you? You’re often tired yourself. I bet you’re even too tired for a race.” Flurry Heart teased back. “I dunno. I feel a little tired- GO!!!” Tempest suddenly shouted before dashing. “Hey! That’s cheating!” Flurry Heart exclaimed, rushing ahead. The two were neck and neck as they ran through Canterlot. Even if Tempest had the speed advantage due to her leg strength, Flurry Heart easily usurped first place, using her wings to get ahead of the former. “What? You can’t do that!” Tempest shouted, noticing Flurry Heart use her wings. “Why not? You didn’t tell me you wanted to race! So catch me if you can, Fizzy~!” Flurry Heart teased. “What was that?” Tempest asked, caught off guard by her nickname. The duo ran over the rebuilt city of Canterlot and they were having fun while heading to Flurry Heart’s tutoring. Almost everything around Canterlot was restored to its former glory while new buildings were placed on some of the landscapes. But after all that occured ten years ago, the feeling never went away. Especially not with Tempest or her friends during their experiences against the Abyss. Regardless, they could face their future head-on without the need to worry over any world-breaking crisis or wonder when they would need to defend Equestria. And that was a thought that Tempest took pleasure in. Having run all the way over to the school after-hours, the two stopped to take a breather and recover from their run. “We really made good time.” Tempest said while panting for breath. “Yes. It was quite a workout.” Flurry Heart said, breathing as well. After gaining their breath, Tempest walked Flurry Heart over to the campus grounds and said, “Well, I guess this is where we separate for now.” “Do I really have to go…? All I ever get are math problems and history lessons. I want to learn something new.” Flurry Heart whined once more. “You will, Your Highness. In time. But for right now, it’s a slow burn. I’ll pick you up at 5 PM, sharp. You’re not gonna wander off like last time, are you?” Tempest instructed as she started to take her leave. “I won’t, Tempest.” Flurry Heart said, annoyed by Tempest’s condescension. “Well, I’ll see you later. Behave yourself!” Tempest shouted before leaving. “I will. I’ll see you later, Aunty Tempest!” Flurry Heart shouted back as she entered the school building. After seeing her head inside, Tempest turned around and started heading back to the castle. Moving across Canterlot, she stopped at a local ice-cream parlor to get a quick snack. After paying for the ice-cream cone, she sat on a bench and proceeded to lick it. While having her meal, she sees Apple Bloom approach her and she stops eating her meal. “Apple Bloom, I’m glad to see that you’re keeping busy around here.” Tempest said, trying to make a joke. “It’s nothing to be worried over, captain. I’m just taking a walk.” Apple Bloom said as she looked around the town square. “Would you mind if I accompany you to the castle? I’m feeling bored out here.” Tempest asked, trying to strike up a conversation with the earth pony. “Yes, ma’am.” Apple Bloom answered as she stood at attention. “Apple Bloom, you don’t have to address me as ma’am or captain when it’s just the two of us.” Tempest said, trying to put her at ease. "I know, but it feels too out of place to be normal like this. Is the princess with you?" Apple Bloom asked while continuing to survey the area. "She's with her tutor, Apple Bloom. Let's head over to the castle." Tempest said while holding her castle. They said nothing to each other while walking. It was like a stiff air loomed over them and they had no idea what to say to one another. Tempest especially had no idea what to say since Apple Bloom has grown suspicious of Princess Cadance's rule over Canterlot. But they put their feelings as they went into the castle where they were greeted by none other than Princess Cadance and Shining Armor as well as Sunset Shimmer and Starlight Glimmer. > Anniversary > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Entering the castle, Tempest and Apple Bloom bowed before Princess Cadance and Shining Armor before rising up and presenting themselves. Turning towards her guards, Cadance dismisses them before stepping closer to them. “How has Flurry Heart behaved?” Cadance asked. “There was no trouble with her. She made it to school without a hitch.” Tempest answered. “Good. I was afraid that she would make a mess of the tour site. Regardless, how have you been? It’s been awfully busy around here and I barely had the time to chat, so how have you been?” Cadance asked in a tired manner. “Well, your daughter has been getting a bit rambunctious recently. Sometimes she runs off without warning, she does these crazy magic experiments in her room, and whenever she has a very important question… it’s always related to candy or ice-cream. But she is doing okay.” Tempest answered. “I see. It’s been ten moons, hasn’t it?” Cadance asked. “Yes, it has. And we have hardly recovered from the damage dealt to us by the Abyss.” Tempest said. “Really? Because the population has started boosting back up a bit recently and we have discussed plans of beginning the ten-year anniversary of our victory against the Abyss. We’ve yet to schedule the meetings though.” Sunset said, looking at the stained glass windows. All of them looked at the stained glass windows inside the hallway. They were depictions of the events that befell them during the Abyssal Invasion and the tragedies that followed up to their victory. A huge feeling loomed over them and their minds filled with a sense of longing and sadness. But Shining Armor shook it off and asked, “S-So… when will the preparations be made?” “Right now, we are holding meetings about the festival. Although it might take some time until plans are finalized.” Sunset answered. “Whatever it takes, Sunset. I want games, snacks, and I want crowds gathered in Canterlot. New Equestria deserves a moment of happiness. And we are going to give it to them. Make sure they get the full message, Sunset.” Cadance ordered. “It will be a day they will never forget, Your Majesty.” Sunset said before bowing and leaving. “As for you three, make sure Flurry Heart behaves herself and don’t let her out of your sights. She may be an alicorn, but she is unprepared and she has no idea how powerful she is. If this festival goes south, it could end in disaster. So until the festival begins, do not let her escape your sights. Understand?” Shining Armor asked, trying to keep Flurry Heart safe. “Your daughter is in good hooves. She won’t be a problem.” Starlight said before bowing to Cadance and Shining Armor. “I am relieved to hear your words, Starlight. But please do not tell her until we have a plan for this festival. I don’t wish to give her the wrong idea that this will go on in a hitch. So please be discreet until the time is right. I don’t wish to ruin the surprise.” Cadance said, chuckling a bit. “We understand. Our lips are sealed.” Tempest said in a playful tone. Cadance gave out a tired laugh at Tempest’s joke, but then she started coughing and nearly fell to the ground. They stopped her fall and helped her up before she could hit the ground. “Easy, Your Highness. You shouldn’t push yourself like this. Get some rest. We’ll take over from here.” Starlight said before giving her to Shining Armor. “Thank you, Starlight. When you see Flurry Heart, tell her that her mother said hello…” Cadance said before turning around and leaving with Shining Armor helping her. After watching them head back inside and seeing the doors close, Starlight turned to Tempest and said, “Princess Cadance is long overdue for a rest.” “Ever since we defeated that monster, Cadance has been putting everything under a microscope and trying to keep everything in order by herself. That is no way to live.” Tempest said, feeling sympathy for the tired princess. “I think she’s planning something. After all, she’s keeping herself holed up in this castle.” Apple Bloom speculated. “Apple Bloom, what happened ten years ago is out of our hooves now. There’s nothing we can do to reverse what happened to our friends.” Tempest said, trying to calm down the peeved earth pony. “Spike and everypony else meant Equestria to me too, but this is beyond our control now. Even if we did tell everypony the truth, who would believe us? This is a time of peace and this is the burden we now carry until the day we die.” Starlight said, trying to knock some sense into Apple Bloom. “Spare me that trash. If I wanted to hear a lecture, I would have asked for her.” Apple Bloom responded in a cross tone. “You’re still angry at Applejack, aren’t you?” Starlight asked. Hearing that name, Apple Bloom gave them an icy glare and retorted, “Don’t ever mention that liar to me. She betrayed everything that she stood for, she had the audacity to turn a blind eye from Spike, and allow Discord to destroy our lives.” “Why don’t you go and take a walk, Apple Bloom? I think you need to think a little more about time and place.” Tempest suggested, feeling a tad crossed. “I’ll do that.” Apple Bloom said before furiously taking her leaving. Watching the angry young earth pony take her leave, Starlight said, “She hasn’t let it go. After all these years, she isn’t the same Apple Bloom that I remember.” “She has seen it all. She lost her entire family, her Crusader friends, and she has lost her fillyhood. Nothing can replace those images. Not after living a full life of solitude.” Tempest said in a forlorn tone. “Too true. So how long does Apple Bloom have until tutoring ends?” Starlight asked, trying to change the subject. “An hour from now, I think? Do you have any plans?” Tempest asked. “Well, I plan on making a few stops before heading off to the cave. Do you wanna come with?” Starlight offered. “Maybe. But right now, I have guard assignments and I need to make sure Flurry Heart leaves on time. Will you be fine by yourself?” Tempest asked. “I’m fine. Just wanted to make sure if he’s doing okay is all.” Starlight said with a nervous chuckle. “Starlight…” Tempest said in a slightly-frustrated tone. “Anyway, I gotta get going. Tell Flurry Heart I said hi.” Starlight said before rushing out of the castle. “Starlight!” Tempest shouted, trying to stop her friend. But it was already too late. Starlight left the castle and Tempest was all by her lonesome. With nothing else to do right now, Tempest said to herself, “May as go check if Flurry Heart has finished…” With that, Tempest left the castle, ready to see if Flurry Heart had completed her tutoring for the day. > Old Friends > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- One hour later, Flurry Heart was finished with her tutoring and she waited for Tempest’s arrival. There were only two guards to keep her company and she had nothing to do while waiting for Tempest. Bored out of her mind, she tried making funny faces in front of the guards in order to find some form of entertainment. But they were so stone-faced and focused that they hardly even cracked a smile. Although if the occasional pedestrian passed by one inch closer to Flurry Heart, he or she would be immediately tackled, giving her at least some form of amusement out of it. But there were hardly any civilians and she could hardly keep herself awake. “Ugh! It’s so boring out here.” Flurry Heart groaned as she paced in circles. But as she was about to lose her nerve, she suddenly saw Apple Bloom walking from a distance. Immediately, she shifts to a happy mood and shouts, “Apple Bloom! Are you here to pick me up?” But to her surprise, Apple Bloom ignores her and walks away from the cheerful alicorn. Making a pouty face, Flurry Heart went back to being bored once again. But undeterred by the former’s attitude, the latter notices a pedestrian walk near her. Seizing the opportunity, Flurry Heart shouts, “On your left!” Immediately, the guards tackled the civilian and Flurry Heart quickly left the campus before they could notice that she had vanished from the sights. She follows after Apple Bloom and tugs the earth pony’s tail, gaining her attention. Turning around, the latter glares at the former and says, “You’re supposed to be waiting for Captain Tempest.” “Well, I don’t see Aunty Tempest anywhere. And she seems too busy to see me right now. Plus, I’m bored. So it would be nice if you could take me around town and do something fun.” Flurry Heart said. “And what if I say no…?” Apple Bloom asked in an irritated tone. “I’ll tell mommy and daddy that you hold secret parties for the guards~.” Flurry Heart playfully threatened. “Where did you hear that…?” Apple Bloom asked, unnerved by Flurry Heart’s blackmail. “I followed you, of course~.” Flurry Heart said with a bright smile. It was clear that Apple Bloom didn’t want to take Flurry Heart with her and she didn’t want to be blackmailed, especially by somepony who was related to Princess Cadance and Shining Armor. But the very last thing that she wanted was to be scolded by her superiors. So she swallowed her pride and said, “If word of this gets out to anypony, I swear that I’ll-” “You’ll what~?” Flurry Heart asked, striking a nerve in the process. “Just behave yourself. Or I will drag you back to mommy and daddy.” Apple Bloom threatened before turning around in a huff. Silently cheering to herself, Flurry Heart followed after Apple Bloom and they wandered across Canterlot. The former did very well to keep a cool head while the latter aimlessly played around. But while Apple Bloom kept watch over Flurry Heart, she accidentally bumps into two familiar faces. “Apple Bloom…?” this familiar pony asked, immediately recognizing her. After recovering, she looks up and notices that it was none other than Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon, her old school bullies. But instead of belittling her, Diamond Tiara nervously says, “H-Hi, Apple Bloom. I haven’t seen you in five years. How’s life?” “What do you two want…?” Apple Bloom asked in a hostile tone. “N-Nothing. We’re just doing some grocery shopping while going over plans for the festival. Then we bump into you… anyway, how have you been?” SIlver Spoon asked in a friendly tone. “Who are your friends, Apple Bloom?” Flurry Heart asked, appearing out of nowhere. “Princess Flurry Heart?!” Diamond Tiara shouted, immediately recognizing the princess. The duo immediately bowed before her and kept quiet. Noticing this, Apple Bloom said in a deadpan manner, “Don’t worry. She won’t bite.” Hearing this, they rose off the ground and Silver Spoon says in a bewildered tone, “Wow! You really moved up in Equestria, Apple Bloom. I never pegged you for a big-time bodyguard.” “Do you three know each other…?” Flurry Heart asked, confused by the conversation. “We used to go to elementary school together.” Diamond Tiara answered in a nervous tone. “Were you friends?” Flurry Heart asked once more. “Eh… that bit’s a little complicated.” Silver Spoon said, starting to feel uncomfortable. “They are not my friends.” Apple Bloom answered in a brutally honest tone. “We were acquaintances.” Diamond Tiara said, trying to save face. “Flurry Heart!” Tempest shouted. She immediately ran over to the group and grabbed Flurry Heart. “Let’s go.” Tempest said in an upset tone. Watching the two walk away, Silver Spoon said to Apple Bloom in a sad tone, “We know you have lost everything and the very last thing you want is to talk to us about it, but you are not alone on this.” “If you wish to talk to us or Snips and Snails, we will be there for you. But you shouldn’t be taking your anger out on Princess Flurry Heart.” Diamond Tiara said, trying to be reasonable with the angry earth pony. “Spare me the pity party…” Apple Bloom said, leaving them as they wondered what they did wrong. . . . Dragging Flurry Heart over to a private area in the corner of Canterlot, Tempest said, “I thought I told you to stay on campus.” “You did. But I was bored and I saw big sister Apple Bloom, so…” Flurry Heart said, trying to form words. “It doesn’t matter if there’s somepony you know or otherwise. You’re not supposed to leave until I arrive. Period. I understand that you’re impatient and you want to see more of Equestria… but you’re still young. Your magic has the potential to unite Equestria. And if that’s last unchecked, it will become a double-edged sword.” Tempest lectured. “Yes, Aunty Tempest. I heard you. I’m just so tired of learning the same old thing everyday at that boring school building. I want to learn more, to see more. I want to see the entire world of Equestria. I don’t want to spend my entire life here.” Flurry Heart said, bored of staying in Canterlot. “In time, you will see what Equestria is like. But for now, you must stay here. For the sake of your subjects and your loved ones, you are needed if Equestria wants a future. I understand you don’t wish to stay here, but we need you. I need you.” Tempest said. Flurry Heart felt mixed on what Tempest said to her. On one hoof, she understood why she was worried for her and wanted her to stay in Canterlot. But on the other, she wanted to leave. There wasn’t really much here for her, let alone anything to do. But regardless, there was nothing that Flurry Heart could do, so she swallowed her pride and conceded to Tempest’s reasoning. “Yes, Aunty Tempest…” Flurry Heart groaned. “We’re almost home. You can deal with your parents when you head inside.” Tempest said as they approached the castle entrance. “I know…” Flurry Heart grumbled as the castle doors opened. Immediately, she was greeted by her parents and they walked her to a private room where Tempest, Starlight, and Sunset eavesdropped behind the door. Flurry Heart was lectured for one whole hour while they listened from the opposite side of the door. When they were finished, Cadance and Shining Armor left the area and walked to the castle hallways, leaving the young alicorn in the room alone. “At least I got to see my parents today…” Flurry Heart said to herself as she walked out. After leaving, dinner was already prepared for her and she sat down at the table by herself. It was quiet and empty with hardly any company other than the guards. She felt cold and empty as she ate. After finishing her meal, she brushed her teeth and tied her hair back to prevent it from getting frizzy. When she was finished, she grabbed her favorite little teddy bear before tucking herself in and going to sleep. > Festival Meeting > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The next morning, Flurry Heart was woken up by a knock on the door, causing her to accidentally tumble out of bed. “Princess! You’re going to be late!” the voice shouted. After regaining her senses, Flurry Heart realizes that it was none other than Starlight Glimmer, the caretaker of the castle. Turning towards the clock, it read 7:30 AM on the dot. Immediately panicking, she shouted, “Hold on a second, Aunty Starlight!” Flurry Heart dashed for the door and opened it. Immediately, Starlight bursted in, causing Flurry Heart to get hit by accident. The former briefly looks around for her in a panicke manner before spotting the latter on the ground seeing stars. Without warning, she picked up the princess and said, “Come on, Flurry Heart! You need to get ready! Those piano lessons aren’t going to play themselves, you know!” “Aunty Starlight…?” Flurry Heart asked in a dazed voice. “Don’t dilly-dally! If we’re late, you’re gonna get an earful from your parents! Especially me…” Starlight said in a fearful tone. Flurry Heart raised an eyebrow at Starlight, followed by a disapproving look on her face. “Look, Aunty Tempest is busy with guard assignments and scheduling today. So I have to fill in today since she is busy. And Sunset being busy with meetings today isn’t doing me any favors.” Starlight said, scratching the back of her head. “Can’t we just do something fun for today…?” Flurry Heart asked in an annoyed tone. “Which one of us is the princess?” Starlight countered. Flurry Heart lowered her head in defeat and started getting ready. While she was busy preparing, Starlight noticed a picture frame on Flurry Heart’s drawer. She walked towards it and it contained a picture of Spike and Twilight with Flurry Heart when she was still a foal. Starlight grabbed the picture with her hoof and just looked at it. Tears silently poured as she could feel the memories rush back to her from before the Abyss took over. The feeling of longing was intoxicating and Starlight wanted nothing more than to go back and fix that mistake. But after everything that happened, it was too late. But just as she was swimming in thought, a fully-dressed Flurry Heart tapped Starlight on her shoulder, scaring her out of her wits. “I’m ready, Aunty Sta-! Are you… crying…?” Flurry Heart asked, confused by Starlight’s actions. “Some dust got into my eyes.” Starlight said as she wiped the tears away. “The maid dusted everywhere before I entered my room.” Flurry Heart said, not believing Starlight’s story. “Look, this isn’t the time to cry. We need to go.” Starlight said as she grabbed Flurry Heart. “Ow! I’m going!” Flurry Heart said in an annoyed tone. After leaving the castle, Starlight took Flurry Heart all the way over to school with no delays and dropped her off. A lot was going through Starlight’s mind when she saw the picture, but she made sure to keep her secret safe from the young alicorn. And even then, she could hardly keep her emotions tucked away after the memories started flooding her mind. But regardless, she did her duty and was prepared to head back to the castle. But before she could leave, Starlight shouted, “I’ll get you something sweet if you behave yourself! Okay, princess?” “Yay! I’ll be a good girl! See you later, Aunty Starlight!” Flurry Heart shouted back before entering the school building. “I know you will…” Starlight said before turning around. As she walked back to the castle, she looked up at her broken horn and touched the chips on her forehead. Then she remembered what happened after what Midnight did to her during the Abyssal Invasion. Immediately, she blocked that horrendous image out of her mind. Then she said to herself, “Life was much easier when I still had my horn…” Having walked most of the way, she saw a nice hayburger stand on her right. Deciding to stop for a quick bite, she bought a full meal and sat at a park bench before eating her lunch. When she was finished, she walked back to the castle where she was greeted by Sunset Shimmer. “You were almost a minute late.” Sunset said in an annoyed tone. “And I needed to drop Flurry Heart off.” Starlight countered. “Starlight, this is an important event and you’re a part of this. If we want this to work, everypony needs to be involved. You understand, don’t you?” Sunset asked, trying to lecture the former. “She does. She just doesn’t enjoy condescension.” a voice called out. They turned around and it was none other than Tempest. Walking over to the two unicorns, she asked, “Why was I called here?” “I’ll explain everything once we head to the meeting room. Come on.” Sunset said as she pulled them with her. Reluctantly going along with her plan, Starlight and Tempest followed her into the meeting room where they were greeted by dozens of business ponies, including Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon. “Now that everypony is here, please be seated. I would like to begin this meeting with an idea for the ten-year anniversary since the day we defeated the Abyss. Would you care to show us your powerpoint presentation, Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon?” Sunset requested, looking at the two mares. “Of course, Sunset Shimmer. We have the portfolio right here.” Diamond Tiara said as she grabbed the portfolio. The duo immediately rose out of their chairs and walked towards the powerslide with a portfolio containing the presentation. After loading the powerslide with their pictures, they stood at attention and faced the table. “As all of you are already aware, it has been ten years since we’ve defeated the Abyss and we have very high expectations for this upcoming celebration of our victory. So this is how we’ll kick off the celebration for this momentous occasion. We’ll…” Silver Spoon said as she started explaining the celebration. . . . An hour later, everypony clapped at their plan for the celebration. Even Starlight and Tempest seemed impressed by how well-spoken and thorough the presentation was. But there were a few things that lingered on their minds. So Tempest rose out of her seat and said, “There’s something that I need to ask and it’s not about the celebration. But it’s about the outside threats that still exist in Equestria.” “What about the threats, Tempest?” Sunset asked. “Objectively speaking, this party will most likely be the biggest event that has occured since the Abyssal Invasion. Which brings me to my question. What will we do if outside threats are drawn to it? How will we fight back if we were to be attacked?” Tempest asked. Hearing this sparked murmuring amongst the meeting attendees. Some have sided with Tempest’s side of the argument while the others opposed it. But attempting to mitigate the concerns, Sunset said, “We will do what we have always done, Tempest. The Abyss was the biggest threat that we have fought against and if there were any threats, it’d be mostly some of the creatures who had survived the Abyss’s purging before it died. And even then, it wouldn’t matter as we have dealt with foes far more powerful than either of us.” “But even so, we need to be prepared in case the worst comes to pass. If we don’t have a coherent plan to counter it, it could be a lot worse than the Abyssal Invasion.” Tempest countered. “I’m sure you already have a plan for that. After all, you were once the commander of the Storm King’s army. I’m sure you have no issues with any of the soldiers protecting us?” Sunset asked. Hearing this struck a nerve in Tempest. She wanted nothing more than to push Sunset into a wall and make her retract her statement. But she swallowed her pride and let it slide. “No, Sunset Shimmer. Just be ready in case an attack were to occur.” Tempest said, trying to keep her temper in check. “Then we are in full agreement. We will form teams and begin planning tomorrow morning. This meeting is adjourned.” Sunset stated. After everypony left, Tempest walked over to Sunset and pushed her against a wall, prompting Starlight to intervene. “What was that all about?” Tempest growled, feeling angry over Sunset’s rude behavior. “I was just stating the truth. After all, you did work for the Storm King.” Sunset said. “And what about you? You wanted to take over Equestria with a half-baked scheme of using teenagers as your army!” Tempest shouted. “Girls! That’s enough!” Starlight shouted, trying to shove them away from one another. “And you! Why were you being so quiet during the meeting? Did you have nothing to say about the presentation? Or did you just enjoy watching us destroy each other like how you enjoyed tearing everypony apart for equality?” Tempest shouted. “What does that have to-!” Starlight shouted before hearing a zap across the room. The three turned around and saw it was Cadance. Immediately, they stopped fighting and bowed before them. “While I am not sure what happened here, I will not tolerate any form of bickering and you will not tear each other inside this castle for any reason. Do I make myself clear?” Cadance said in a firm, icy tone. “Yes, Princess Cadance.” they said in unison. “When you are done reconciling with one another, one of you will pick my daughter up. I have other matters to attend to. Finish your duties.” Cadance said before leaving the meeting room. When Cadance left the meeting room, they immediately calmed down and looked at each other. Then Starlight said, “I’ll go pick Flurry Heart up. You two have so much to do for tomorrow. I’ll-” “We appreciate that you enjoy playing mediator, but you need to say something before something happens. That’s what you’re supposed to do. You’re stronger than this, Starlight.” Tempest said, having calmed down. “Plus, there’s gonna come another time where you have to make an important decision. And it won’t be something you can just reverse. You will need to be ready for that when the time comes.” Sunset said in a serious tone. Instead of saying a word, Starlight simply nodded and left the castle to pick up Flurry Heart. When she was finished with her task, she immediately took her home before preparing dinner. After they were finished eating, they got ready for bed and immediately went to sleep for tomorrow. > Nightmare > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- While everypony was asleep, Starlight was suddenly woken up by a strange noise in the castle. Getting out of her bed, Starlight moved towards the door and opened it. Slowly creeping her head out, Starlight whispers, “Flurry Heart…?” She leaves her room and walks around the hallway to see where she is. But as she kept moving, she suddenly started hearing these eerie whispers inside the castle. Starlight, sweating profusely and starting to hyperventilate, kept moving throughout until she made it towards the stained glass mirror hall. “Is anypony here…?” Starlight asked, starting to feel scared. But as she looked around, she noticed the stained glass mirrors. Instead of showing the victories and accomplishments that the Mane Six delivered, they depicted the events of the Abyssal Invasion. From being banished by Twilight and her friends while Discord was watching in the shadows, to encountering Spike as the Abyss, to fighting Midnight Sparkle, to witnessing the Royal Sisters in their corrupted forms, all the way over to destroying the Malachite Crystal Heart, killing both the Creature and Spike in the process. “It should’ve been you…” a voice whispered. Starlight frantically turned around to the sound of that familiar voice. “You knew all along, didn’t you…?” another voice whispered. “She always did keep secrets, after all.” a third voice said. “No…” Starlight whimpered. “Oh yes, Starlight… we are very much alive.” this voice said as she lit her horn up. Starlight looks up and sees the moving Ooze-covered corpses of Midnight Sparkle and her zombified friends, Daybreaker, Nightmare Moon, and every other pony that was killed in the Crystal Empire Raid, let alone the Abyssal Invasion. Starlight tried running away, but she was now cornered by the creatures that were purged by the Abyss during its death. But as she slowly backs away, she accidentally bumps into someone. She turns around and, to her horror, sees that it is none other than a zombified Spike possessed by the Abyss. “Spike…?” Starlight said, starting to tear up. “Why did you do it…?” Spike whimpered before being overwhelmed by the Abyss. Just before Starlight could say something, the Abyss wraps everyone up in its Ooze-y grasp and says as the corpses on its body moaned and screamed, “You are a poison to your kind…” the Abyss said as it bared its fangs while everybody else watched in glee. It swooped down and bit Starlight whole, crunching her in its maw as she slowly lost her life in the jaws of the Abyss. . . .  Immediately springing out of her bed, Starlight was dripping with sweat, hyperventilating in terror, and her heart pounded like a drum. She turned her lamp on before frantically looked around the room before checking her body for bite marks. Luckily for Starlight, it was only a horrible nightmare. But she couldn’t shake the feeling of the experiences she went through. It was like she was stuck in a loop. She reached for a glass of water on her drawer and downed it before catching her breath. But as she collected her thoughts, she suddenly remembered something. “Oh no…!” Starlight said to herself as she dashed out of her room. Running out of the castle, she ran through Canterlot all the way over to the outskirts. She ran for what seemed to be a good 15-20 minutes. Having run a good distance, she notices the cave where she buried Spike and she immediately stops. Slowly breathing with uncertainty, she walks towards the cave and enters it. It was filled with bright, vibrant crystals and they showed Starlight’s reflection while walking. Five minutes later, she sees the statue of the Royal Sisters fighting the Abyss, the same location where Spike’s body is buried. “Spike…?’ Starlight whispered. She moves ever closer and sees that the grave is untouched and non-violated. “Thank Celestia…” Starlight said as tears of relief poured out. She stumbles towards Spike’s tombstone and hugs it as tightly as she could with no hesitation of letting go. “I’m so sorry… you have no idea how lonely it is without you… it’s all my fault.” Starlight blubbered while hugging his tombstone. “No, it’s not.” a voice said. Hearing this startled out of her sad state. Starlight slowly turns around and sees that it is none other than Tempest. The latter approaches the former and hugs her along with the tombstone. She could see how much Starlight was hurting and Tempest would have it no other way. “You did what you had to do to kill the Abyss. Nopony could have done it.” Tempest said, attempting to comfort her mourning friend. “You could have.” Starlight said while crying. Tempest was hit hard by Starlight’s truth, but it didn’t matter to her right now and she continued to comfort her while she cried. But their moment of tenderness was interrupted by another voice. “It’s late out here.” this voice said. They both turn around and see Sunset walking inside the cave. She approached the grave and looked at the statue. Then Sunset said, “I understand that we have lost everyone dear to us. And there is nothing we can do to reverse the damage that has been done to us. But we are not living in the past. You need to let this go to rest.” “Like it’s any easier for you.” Starlight said. “We don’t know if he was possessed, Starlight. Even if he wasn’t faking it, there would be nothing we could do for him. Besides, you gave him what was a mercy kill. Nopony could-” Sunset said before being shoved into a wall by Starlight. “You never say that here. We’re not sure if he was possessed or not, but he has ears. And I will not allow you to speak about Spike like this while we’re inside this cave.” Starlight said in an angry tone. Tempest gets up and pulls Starlight away from Sunset. Then Tempest says, “We have all lost who we loved and there is nothing we can do to bring them back. Especially not our closest friends. But there is a time and a place for everything, Sunset. And whether he was possessed or not, Spike or any other creature will not be disrespected while we’re in here.” Tempest proclaimed. “What would your friends back in the human world say if you mentioned such things in front of them? Do you think they would be happy to know that you have been talking trash about Spike? Or would they be happy to know that you’ve become no different from the higher-ups?” Starlight asked. “Leave my friends out of this, Starlight! What we have planned for Canterlot is bigger than us and we have no time to argue over who deserved to die or not! If we stray further from that, it will not end well!” Sunset said in a firm tone. “Well, I’m sorry to say that not everypony shares the same viewpoint as you, Sunset! If you really cared about what we went through together, we wouldn't be having this conversation! Would we?” Starlight countered. But before the argument could continue any further, there were suddenly lights flashed directly at them. They look forward and see that it was none other than Shining Armor accompanied by the Canterlot guards. “It’s late, girls. Nopony is supposed to be wandering off at this time of the night. Come along!” Shining Armor shouted in an irritated tone. Having no other choice, the trio conceded and proceeded walking back with the guard unit. But while they were heading back, Sunset said to Starlight, “I understand that you don’t want to forget him, Starlight. But this foolishness needs to end. If you keep holding onto that, you’re gonna hate yourself forever.” “Maybe, but that’s better than pretending he never existed.” Starlight rebuked before facing forward. Tempest kept quiet after hearing their brief argument, but it weighed on her really hard after that night. Hearing them bicker brought her back to when Grubber was still alive and it hurt her so much to see her friends fight each other. But when they made it back to the castle, they were greeted by an irritated Cadance. After listening to an hour of a disciplinary lecture, they each returned to their rooms with a lot still weighing hard on their minds. But they let that all slide for the night as they proceeded to head back to sleep. > New Friend > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The next morning on the weekend, Flurry Heart and Tempest were walking around Canterlot, eating ice-cream with one another while looking at the statues. But while Flurry Heart was busy admiring the statues, Tempest was deeply troubled by last night. Perhaps Sunset was right. Starlight and Tempest have clung on to the past for so long that they hardly knew what it was like to live in the present. She already lost Grubber during the Abyssal Invasion, but she had to deal with learning that Twilight was evil the entire time and it did a lot to her psyche as a Pony of Friendship. But as she was dwelling on those thoughts, Flurry Heart asked, “Aren’t you going to eat your ice-cream?” “Huh? What do you mean?” Tempest asked. “It’s dripping.” Flurry Heart answered, trying to cover her giggles. Tempest looked at her cone and noticed that it was starting to leak. Immediately, she frantically licked the sides to keep it from dripping any further. Flurry Heart did her best to stifle her giggling, but she just could get enough of Tempest panicking with her ice-cream. Tempest herself wasn’t fond of this mistake, but she let it pass. “Is something wrong, Aunty Tempest?” Flurry Heart asked. “Huh? N-No. Why would you think that?” Tempest replied while licking her ice cream. “Whenever we get ice-cream, you would lick it all the way so far as to eat the cone. I didn’t do anything wrong, did I?” Flurry Heart said, starting to feel worried. “No, it’s not you… I’m just… there’s just been a lot on my mind recently.” Tempest answered. “Like what?” Flurry Heart asked. “I always told that story about the Abyss when you were much smaller than you are now. But there’s just a tad more to it than what I told you. There was also a baby dragon.” Tempest said while facing the statues. “Do you mean Spike?” Flurry Heart asked. “Just listen to what I have to say first. It could be very important to you later down the road. Are you listening?” Tempest asked, facing Flurry Heart with a serious look. Flurry Heart nodded yes and Tempest spoke in a firm but not forceful tone, “Before the Abyssal Invasion began, there was once a baby dragon named Spike. He was friends with Twilight Sparkle and your mother, but he was always alone. Because of that, he became sad and wanting. At one point, he left everypony entirely and while he was wandering inside a cave, he stumbled across the Malachite Crystal Heart. Tempted by its beautiful appearance, it latched onto him and he became a monster. Using his resentment against Twilight and her friends, he began to hate ponies. And later… all of life itself. If it weren’t for Twilight, her friends, and the Royal Sisters, we wouldn’t be here eating ice-cream and looking at the statues like we are now.” “Is there a point to all this? And didn’t you fight against the Abyss?” Flurry Heart asked. “I did. And it’s getting there. After some time had passed, we were heartbroken to discover what he had become. And then… we ended him. But he took so much from us… and there’s so little to go by after everything that he did.” Tempest said. “But did he ever think about what he did it for? And why was he so angry in the first place?” Flurry Heart asked. Tempest was hit hard by that question. Her insides were throbbing and she could feel her eyes start to tear up. But stomaching her emotions long enough, Tempest responded, “I don’t know, but he was not always angry. But you need to understand that not every creature is evil. Some of them were just as nice before they were tainted by the Abyss. Spike lost himself because he had nopony to turn to… and I don’t want you to end up like he did. So please, never let your emotions control your actions. But someday, you will have to make a decision that will decide the entire fate of Equestria.” Flurry Heart had no idea what Tempest meant. For all she knew, it could have been some lecture story she heard one time during one of her history classes. It may have even been part of a picture book that she read once. She was so confused that she didn’t even know where to start. But then Flurry Heart said, “Okay, Aunty Tempest. But if it’s okay, can I please finish my ice-cream? It’s starting to melt.” Having felt a little down in the dumps since this morning, Tempest chuckled and answered, “Sure.” Immediately, Flurry Heart went back to eating her half-melted ice-cream while enjoying the sight of the statues. But they continued gazing at the statues, they were suddenly approached by Cozy Glow, who was still selling cookies in the middle of the day. “Hello, Your Highness. How are you?” Cozy Glow asked. “Hi, Cozy Glow. Me and Aunty Tempest were just looking at the Statues of the Heroes of Equestria. Do you wanna watch with us for a bit?” Flurry Heart said in an excited tone. “I’m sorry, but I still have my daily rounds to go through. I would like to come over, but my parents are so busy making ends meet that I barely have time to play.” Cozy Glow said in a forlorn manner. Hearing this made Flurry Heart feel bad for the pegasus, but there was very little that she could to improve her living situation. But then Cozy Glow suggested, “How about I talk with my parents tonight and then see about giving you my answer tomorrow? Does that sound good?” “That would be wonderful! I can’t wait to hear your answer tomorrow, Cozy Glow!” Flurry Heart said in an excited tone. “Now don’t get your hopes too high, Flurry Heart. It could be a no tomorrow.” Tempest said, trying to temper the young alicorn’s happiness. “I know, Tempest. I’m just trying to be happy for my new friend.” Flurry Heart said in an annoyed tone. “Right. Anyway, tell us your answer tomorrow. Okay, sweetie?” Tempest said with a small yet skeptical smile. “I will! Thank you, Your Highness!” Cozy Glow said as she dashed away with her cookies. “Huh? Wait! I didn’t get any cookies…” Flurry Heart whined, starting to feel depressed. “You had enough sugar for one day. It’s time we walked off some of it in your body.” Tempest said as she stood up. “Fine…” Flurry Heart said as she rolled her eyes. “And no eye-rolling.” Tempest warned. While they started to walk, Cozy Glow was watching from afar and she had a sinister grin on her face. “They’ve fallen for it. Better tell him the good news…” Cozy Glow said as she proceeded to leave Canterlot. > A Sinister Force > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wandering off to the outskirts of Canterlot and into Everfree Forest, Cozy Glow tossed her cookie basket aside and grabbed her cloak from inside a hollow tree. After donning it, she flapped her wings and started hovering off the ground. She flew away, but kept herself low to avoid detection by the guards. While she was flying, she said to herself, “Oh, that princess is even dumber than I anticipated~. This makes my plan so much easier~.” Having flown across long enough, Cozy Glow flew out of the forest and started heading towards the mountains at full speed. Cackling madly to herself as she flew to a giant mountain with a cave, she flew inside all the way to where the black clouds lead and stopped flying. She walked towards the mummified goat corpse and said, “You’re not gonna believe what just happened today~. I was invited to the princess’s castle~! You have no idea how happy I am~! When she lets me in, all I have to do is lure her into someplace quiet where I can put an incapacitation spell on her~! After that, I’ll kidnap her and bring her over to you~! But the only problem is that I also need a corrupted creature or pony to get it done! I know where the Shadow King is buried, but there’s this meddlesome unicorn that always visits at night! WHAT AM I TO DO!?!?” Flurry Heart panicked and paced around while trying to figure out a plan to get Spike’s corpse. “There has to be a way! There has to be! I just have-” Cozy Glow frantically said before being pushed against the wall. Cozy Glow was held up by this black mist containing a form of corrosiveness and it slowly began to burn away at her body. She was shoved so hard that she could hardly breathe and panicked while trying to save herself. But before she could say anything, the essence dropped her and her body returned to normal. “I know that you wish to be returned to your former glory and that you want to destroy Equestria. But we made a deal. If I returned your power, I would be given the powers of an alicorn and I would seize Equestria for myself. Of course, your goals and mine are the complete opposite. But the door swings both ways.” Cozy Glow said, trying to justify her position. The mummified goat’s heart started beating faster and the harder it beated, the bigger his essence became. The mist swiftly turned into tentacles and they slithered towards Cozy Glow. Crawling along her skin, they smoothly caressed her coat and slid one of them right near her mouth. “D-Don’t worry! As soon as I bait one of the princesses, you’ll get your power back. Plus, they will be so preoccupied with trying to find either Cadance or Flurry Heart, they won’t notice the Shadow King’s corpse being robbed of! It’s all genius!” Cozy Glow shouted, trying to appease the corpse’s nature. Waving and caressing its tentacles across Cozy Glow’s body, they turn into serrated blades and point them at her eyeballs. Then they slowly moved away and pointed themselves directly at her mouth before aiming at her teeth. Cozy Glow sweated profusely as they glided across her jaw before holding her mouth wide open. It was sharply pointed at the top to the point where it could easily stab her brain. Cozy Glow breathed heavily and she could feel her life flash before her eyes. But just as she felt herself ready to die, the goat retracted its tentacles and turned back into the mist. As she was gaining her breath, Cozy Glow said, “Geez mister, you nearly gave me a heart attack. I thought for sure that-” Just then, a lone tentacle sharpened into a blade and pointed itself at Cozy’s throat, immediately silencing her before retracting its tentacle back into mist. Having been completely silenced, Cozy Glow bowed before running out of the cave with the black mist following closely behind her. After making it out, Cozy Glow ran into the corner of the entrance and puked her lunch out before sitting down to recover. “The nerve of that goat, thinking that I’m nothing more than its puppet…! Does it not know that power equals authority!? I’m the one jumping through hoops to achieve my dreams, not that stupid corpse! I swear… if I was in charge, it would be kissing my hooves and wouldn’t have to worry about pulling my weight around as much as that bag of bones! But right now… I need to get back to Canterlot~. After all, I have a playdate to make with a certain princess~.” Cozy Glow said with a sinister grin as she grabbed her cookie basket. After recuperating from her encounter with the corpse and putting her hood back on, she started flying away from the mountains. While she was flying back, she couldn’t stop thinking about seeing Flurry Heart again and how fun it would be to shatter her heart like glass. All she needed to do was put an incapacitation spell on her and it would be a done deal. But the other issue was trying to find the perfect moment to rob Spike’s corpse. It would be no easy task since Starlight visits every night before going to bed, but Cozy Glow had to make do with the best that she had. Even if it meant having to get her hooves dirty. “I’m getting closer…” Cozy Glow said to herself before descending into Everfree Forest. Traversing through the trees and the thick bushes, Cozy Glow avoided detection by the patrols in the sky and on the ground. Having made it close enough, she landed on the ground and walked towards Canterlot. After entering, she eyed the nearest cookie stand and stole a whole batch without anypony noticing. When she finished her little cookie theft, she resumed her innocent filly persona and started selling her freshly stolen cookies. It was only a matter of time until she would see Flurry Heart again, but Cozy Glow decided to keep her cool and sell her cookies until the time would come. > Trauma > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Inside her room, Sunset Shimmer was busy with attending to the festival plans and checking over the details twice. She was so stressed with checking the papers and writing the forms that she barely had the time to sleep and she could hardly see to the point that she needed to wear glasses while reading. When she was finished, she rubbed her eyes and felt the need to take a small nap. But just then, she sees her journal glow and vibrate rapidly. Teeming with joy, she grabs her journal and opens it. And to her delight, the message was from none other than Twilight from the human world. After reading her entire message, Sunset proceeds to write her back. It read, Dear Twilight, How have you been? How’s everybody back home? It’s been quite some time since we spoke to each other. I am so busy with everything that I forget what it’s like to have fun. Has anything changed in the human world? Is everybody okay? I… It’s been a long time since I’ve felt like this. Everypony back here in Equestria is still trying to recover from the Abyssal Invasion ten years ago and now we have to prepare for the 10th Anniversary of that horrendous event. But I’m not sure if it should happen. Princess Cadance has been insistent that we start it. In fact, I’ve been so busy that I have been growing distant from my friends. Whenever I try to speak to them, I just wind up brushing them off and deriding them for being stuck in the past. It’s not like I enjoy being mean, but I don’t want to see them like this. It hurts so much that I wish I was consumed by the Abyss. What do I do? Please give me an answer. I just… I’m just glad that I’m able to talk to you again. If anybody else is listening to this, I miss you all so very much and I wish that I could return to you. Please forgive me for my self-indulgent message to you. Love, Sunset Shimmer When she was finished writing back, Sunset closed the book and she felt herself getting groggy. But just as she was ready to take a nap, she suddenly heard a knock on the door. “Miss Shimmer, there are planners in the hallway who want to meet you. They said it was urgent.” the guard reported. Groaning in frustration, Sunset replied, “Tell them I will be there shortly.” “Will do, ma’am!” the guard said before leaving. Rolling her eyes in annoyance before rubbing them, Sunset muttered, “Just what do they want now…? Next time, Starlight’s taking over this meeting…” Preparing herself a quick cup of coffee, Sunset downed the mug and left her room, albeit still exhausted. Walking down into the hallway, she was greeted by several business ponies, including Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon. Heading into the meeting room, Sunset endured an hour of listening to their presentations and trying to pay attention without falling asleep. Which was all the more cathartic when it finished. But then she had to double-check on the plans and attractions for the anniversary and it was never-ending. It followed for the next several hours, but Sunset was finished and was ready to retire for the day. But as she was heading back to her room, she accidentally bumped into Starlight. “Oh! Sunset? Are you okay…?” Starlight asked, concerned for her groggy friend. “I’m fine, Starlight… just going to my room.” Sunset answered in an exhausted tone. “I’ll take you over.” Starlight said as she proceeded to help Sunset. As they proceeded to walk together, Sunset and Starlight felt awkward walking with one another. Even if they like they hated each other yesterday, Sunset felt remorseful for the way she acted and felt like saying something to Starlight. So she said, “You know I didn’t mean the things that I said, right?” Hearing this took Starlight by surprise. Trying to keep her cool, Starlight responded, “I know.” “I know what I said yesterday was disingenuous, but I’m worried about you. Every night, I see you sneaking off to visit him. You pretend like nothing bad is happening. I have to take over some of your duties. It’s not healthy.” Sunset said. “We’re almost near your room, Sunset. You’ll have plenty of time to rest.” Starlight said, trying to ignore her concerned friend. “Yeah, but… I can’t believe it’s been ten years since that event. Makes you feel old, doesn’t it?” Sunset said, trying to start a conversation. Deciding to humor her, Starlight responded, “Don’t remind me. I can’t even look at books without thinking of her.” “Neither can I. And I still can’t believe she would go this far.” Sunset said. “I couldn’t imagine if she got her hooves on Flurry Heart. We would be living in a fate that would be far worse than what the Abyss had in store for us.” Starlight said as she started to sweat. “Either way, we would’ve died if you didn’t destroy that Crystal. And it would’ve been even worse if he didn’t kill her. Just thinking about it just makes my insides tighten up. But everypony’s okay now, Equestria is recovering, and all we have to worry about is the festival.” Sunset said as she yawned. “Right… the festival…” Starlight said as she felt her heart pound like a jackhammer. “I know how much he means to you. And you valued him like you valued your old friends. But you need to-” Sunset said before being cut off by Starlight. “We’re almost there. Please mind the stairs.” Starlight said as she carried Sunset up the stairs. As Starlight helped Sunset, the latter started to notice that the former’s breathing was shallow, her movement was stagnating, and she was sweating incredibly hard.  “Starlight, are you okay?” Sunset asked, feeling worried for her friend. “Don’t worry. Your room is…” Starlight said before she started turning her head frantically. “Starlight?” Sunset asked as the hornless unicorn turned her head frantically. As the latter looked at the former in a now-scared manner, Starlight started seeing images. Images of the Abyssal Invasion that occurred while she was fighting the Creature. Then she saw various zombified ooze-covered ponies as they slowly walked towards while moaning. Panicking and sweating like a dog in a hot summer’s day, she shouted, “GET AWAY!!!” “Starlight!?” Sunset shouted, now even more scared for her friend as it alerted the nearby guards. “D-DON’T MAKE ME USE THIS HORN!!! I WILL USE IT!!!” Starlight screamed as she charged up her horn. “Miss Starlight, please lower your magic! Nopony is hurting you!” one of the guards said, trying to calm Starlight down. “NO!!!!” Starlight screamed as she unleashed a mighty volt of electricity from her horn. Sunset ran over to tackle Starlight, but the volt travelled everywhere across the hall, creating a hole in the process. The commotion alerted Cadance and Shining Armor, who ran into the room to figure out what caused the disturbance. “Keep back, everypony! Starlight’s having another episode!” Sunset warned while keeping Starlight pinned down. “NO!!! HELP ME!!! I’M BEING EATEN!!!” Starlight cried out as she struggled. “Keep her down, Sunset!” Cadance shouted. “I’m doing my best!” Sunset shouted back while holding Starlight still. Cadance slowly moved forward, but she made sure to avoid the lightning bolt that moved across the entire room. While Cadance slowly moved towards Starlight, she started hearing these weird ramblings from her. Cadance could hardly make out what she was saying, but she put that aside since Starlight was in danger. As she got closer, Cadance formed a horn on her head made out of electricity and placed her horn close to Starlight’s. Pretty soon, Starlight stopped moving and slipped into unconsciousness. “Get Starlight into the infirmary, stat!” Shining Armor ordered. Following his command, two guards ran over to Starlight’s body and carried her. After she was gone, Sunset turned to Cadance and said, “This was her third episode this month. After everything that Starlight’s been through, I’m not sure how long she can take this.” “I know. She’s been getting worse every year now. At this rate, I may have to send Starlight into retirement.” Cadance said, feeling a sense of worry for Starlight’s wellbeing. Just then, Tempest with Flurry Heart on her back ran into the hallway and asked, “Is she okay?” “She’s in the infirmary. But it may take some time until the doctors say something.” Shining Armor answered. “Take Flurry Heart with you. Me and Sunset need to discuss something.” Cadance said. “But mommy, what about Starlight?” Flurry Heart asked in a worried tone. “She’s fine, sweetie. Just go play with Aunty Tempest.” Cadance said, trying to assure her daughter. “Let’s go play with your toys, Your Highness.” Tempest said, taking Flurry Heart out of the hallway. After watching them leave, Sunset turns to Cadance and says in a worried tone, “If this keeps up, Equestria could wind up in an even bigger mess than what happened ten years ago. Garden tending can only keep her sanity intact for so long.” “Indeed. It’s kept her head in place, but it can only work for so long. Ten years is a record if you ask me.” Cadance said as she looked up at the hole in the castle. “But right now, we need to worry about the festival. Since Starlight is out of commission, somepony needs to take over chore duty. I will assign somepony. You look tired, Sunset. You can retire for the night.” Shining Armor said, looking at Sunset’s tired state. “Thank you, Your Majesty. I will see you tomorrow.” Sunset said as she bowed her head. Shining Armor and Cadance nodded in response and proceeded to leave the room. Sunset went back up to her room and took a look at her journal. She didn’t receive a response. Sighing in disappointment, Sunset stripped out of her uniform and got into her pajamas. After washing her face and brushing her teeth, she wrapped her mane in a bun and collapsed onto her bed. She wanted to help Starlight, but there was nothing that Sunset could do and she was powerless to do anything. That unpleasant feeling sat into her while she was laid into her bed. But she had time to worry about that as she needed to focus on tomorrow. Shutting her eyes, Sunset drifted off to sleep, awaiting tomorrow. > Argument > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Having watched the incident from outside the castle, Apple Bloom decided to head towards the source of the commotion. She was already aware of Starlight’s psychotic episodes, so she felt a sense of worry as she walked. “Please be okay…” Apple Bloom muttered as she grew more scared. Entering the castle, she walked through various hallways in different directions until she made it to the castle infirmary where it was blocked off by two guards. “I need to see Starlight.” Apple Bloom said while standing in front of the door. “All access is prohibited until Starlight Glimmer has recovered.” one of the guards said. “But she is my friend and I outrank you! Let me in or I’ll-!” Apple Bloom shouted before being tapped by the shoulder. Apple Bloom turned around and it was none other than Sunset Shimmer. Starting to feel a bit of anger build up, Apple Bloom asked with a scowl, “What do you want…?” “I know how worried you are for Starlight. But she is in the middle of recovery and nopony is allowed to see her. Those were Princess Cadance’s direct orders.” Sunset answered. “Thank you for clearing that up. I was worried that you were keeping another secret.” Apple Bloom said in a passive-aggressive tone as she started to walk away. “This isn’t easy for me either, Apple Bloom. After every that Starlight has been through, she’s-” Sunset said before being cut off by the stubborn earth pony. “Don’t pretend to understand. After all, we have been pretending for ten years.” Apple Bloom said in a now-snide tone. “I do understand. Nothing can fix what has happened to us and nothing can undo the damage that has destroyed our lives. But you need to face the facts, Apple Bloom. Spike was turned evil, Equestria was nearly destroyed, and the Royal Sister as well as Twilight and her friends are dead. We need to give everypony hope. Without it, everything we did will have been for nothing. Can’t you see that?” Sunset reasoned, trying to get through to Apple Bloom. “The only thing I do see is you trying to keep me from seeing my friend. I’m not angry because Spike was brainwashed, nor seeing our home nearly consumed by the Abyss, nor losing our loved ones. I’m angry because you refused to admit the truth. And you are condemning those who had no idea that they were being controlled.” Apple Bloom said, glaring at Sunset before walking away. Frustrated with Apple Bloom’s callousness, Sunset said, “Do you think Applejack would be proud of the mare that you’ve become?” Apple Bloom stopped dead in her tracks the moment Sunset mentioned the name. Apple Bloom turned her head and gave Sunset a death glare before walking over to her. Even if the former was nothing more than an earth pony, the latter felt a sense of terror that she gave off. Moving in closer, Apple Bloom shoved Sunset into a wall before looking her in the eyes and said, “Don’t. Ever. Mention. That. Name.” But before anything could happen, Tempest intervened and pushed Apple Bloom off Sunset. “What are you two doing? Starlight is in the infirmary and the two of you are fighting? What example will that set for New Equestria?” Tempest asked after breaking up the fight. “I was just on my way out…” Apple Bloom sneered as she turned the other way to leave. “Hey! Don’t walk away from us, Apple Bloom! What did you two do?” Tempest shouted as she turned to Sunset. “She was trying to force her way into the infirmary. She didn’t get in.” Sunset answered. Tempest let out a frustrated sigh upon hearing Sunset’s explanation. She understood that Starlight needed her rest, but she knew that Sunset went over the boundaries when she mentioned Applejack’s name to Apple Bloom. “You know that you shouldn’t be using Applejack’s name around Apple Bloom. It’s an easy way to wind up on her bad side.” Tempest warned as she proceeded to exit the castle. “Tempest, Starlight could have caused another incident if we didn’t intervene. Apple Bloom’s grudge should be the least of our worries.” Sunset said, trying to defend herself. “Perhaps, but mentioning dead relatives is no way to open them up. Just like how we tried destroying Twilight’s will.” Tempest said before leaving Sunset to reflect on her mistakes. . . . Apple Bloom was walking outside by herself in an angry manner while minding everypony else around her. She couldn’t get her mind off what Sunset said to her. It was upsetting enough that she wasn’t allowed to see Starlight, but hearing Applejack’s name just reopened her wounds from ten years ago. She was so steamed that she could hardly hear Tempest shouting her name from behind her. “Apple Bloom!” Tempest shouted, catching the earth pony off-guard. Apple Bloom turned around and saw Tempest giving her a concerned look from afar. But instead of walking towards her, Apple Bloom faced forward and continued to walk away. Groaning in frustration, Tempest runs after Apple Bloom and stops her. “Apple Bloom, we need to talk.” Tempest said. “We talked enough.” Apple Bloom said, ignoring Tempest once more. “That wasn’t a request, Apple Bloom.” Tempest said in a much firmer tone. Apple Bloom stopped and turned around to see Tempest giving her a serious look. Seeing that she wasn't playing around this time, Apple Bloom faced Tempest and said, “Okay. What do you want to talk about?” “I know how much you hate Cadance, Sunset, and everypony else linked to the Royal Family. But taking your anger out on them is unhealthy. And I have seen the way you acted towards Flurry Heart sometime ago.” Tempest said. “What anger?” Apple Bloom said in a now-aloof tone. “It’s in your body, Apple Bloom. I can feel it inside you. I understand that you lost everything ten years ago and you have every reason to be angry, but that’s no excuse to vent your frustrations on Flurry Heart. She is the daughter of Princess Cadance, but they are two different ponies. She has no idea what really happened ten years ago and she doesn’t deserve to live in what we went through. She is only a little girl and she is innocent. If we take that away from her, then we will be no different from the monster that took everything away from us ten years ago.” Tempest said as she looked towards the mountains. Having heard all this, Apple Bloom just grew even more frustrated. She said in a cold tone, “I don’t give a flying hoot whether she's innocent or not. She is naive and she has no idea what’s going on around her. We should have told the truth ten years back and all it has given us is a snowball that will be ready to crash any moment. And if there is anything I have picked up after leaving that horrible prison cell, it’s that you can never trust nopony. Especially not your family.” Apple Bloom turned her back on Tempest and left to walk a little more, leaving the latter by herself. The former looks up to the sky and forlornly whispers with a sad expression, “Where are you when we need you the most…?” Seeing Apple Bloom change for the worse shook Tempest like an earthquake. She was so devastated that she couldn’t put into words how much she wished that the Equestria before the Abyssal Invasion still existed. And even still, nothing has changed for her after defeating the Shadow King. But all she could do was keep going and spend the rest of her life, protecting Flurry Heart and her smile. Having decided that it was getting late, she decided to leave Apple Bloom alone and head back to the castle, awaiting tomorrow. > Cookies > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The next morning, Flurry Heart impatiently waited for Tempest to arrive at her door after getting herself dressed. She paced around her room, looking for something to do. She did everything she could to fight off the boredom, which ranged from reading books, challenging herself to a board game, even going so far as to play pretend as if somepony with her. Eventually, her boring solitude got to her and she collapsed on her bed in frustration. “Sweet Celestia, I want to leave! I understand that I’m a princess, but this is too much! Just what is keeping Aunty Tempest!? I want to explore already! Jeez!” Flurry Heart shouted in an exasperated tone. But just as she was about to scream into her pillow, she heard a knock on her door. “Aunty Tempest!?” Flurry Heart shouted before excitedly running to her door. Much to her shock, it turned out to be Apple Bloom. It wouldn’t really be much of an understatement to say that Flurry Heart didn’t expect this. For all she knew, the earth pony could just be sending a message about something. “O-Oh. Big sis Apple Bloom. How are you this morning?” Flurry Heart asked in a now-sheepish tone. “Tempest is currently overseeing Starlight’s recovery, so I have been assigned to watch over you for the time being until she is back on her feet.” Apple Bloom said in an annoyed tone. “Aunty Starlight!? Please tell me! Is she okay?” Flurry Heart asked, feeling concerned for the unicorn. “I cannot say. It has been classified and I haven’t been filled in on her conditions. But all I can say I now have to foal-sit you. Are you ready?” Apple Bloom said with a deadpan expression. “What is with you? I’ve been nothing but nice to you and you’re treating me like a rotten apple on the roadside. Did I do something to hurt your feelings?” Flurry Heart asked, trying to figure out why Apple Bloom is acting grumpy. “Are you ready…?” Apple Bloom asked, ignoring Flurry Heart’s question. “Yes. I am ready. You don’t have to act so mean about it.” Flurry Heart retorted as she exited her room. Apple Bloom groaned in frustration as she and Flurry Heart proceeded to leave the castle. For most of the day, it was tense, Flurry Heart barely spoke a word to Apple Bloom and when she did something, the earth pony would instantly grab and pull her away to keep her from escaping her sights. And whenever Flurry Heart sat beside Apple Bloom, a tense air surrounded the atmosphere all around her. It was like being watched over by a hungry timberwolve. Flurry Heart wasn’t even sure if she would make it through a day, let alone a week, of being supervised by Apple Bloom. She would much rather be forced to eat vegetables than to be watched like a vulture in a desert. But just as she continued to dread the moment, she heard a very familiar voice. “Flurry Heart!” the voice called out. The alicorn instantly lit up with joy and saw Cozy Glow with her usual basket of cookies. Flurry Heart couldn’t have been more happy to see her pegasus friend again after putting up with her icy bodyguard. “Do you want any cookies?” Cozy Glow asked in a cutesy voice. “But of course! May I, big sis Apple Bloom?” Flurry Heart begged. “I don’t care if you take the entire supply…” Apple Bloom groaned. Flurry Heart was unsure what she meant by the entire supply, but she took her bodyguard’s answer as a yes. So she happily replied, “Thank you!” She then took the entire basket of cookies and started eating them. But as she continued to eat the whole basket, she stopped herself from consuming any further and asked as she grabbed a cookie with her wing, “Do you want any, Apple Bloom?” “Not hungry.” Apple Bloom answered in her cold voice. Flurry Heart felt a tad heartbroken by her response, but then she turned to Cozy Glow and asked, “Do you want any, Cozy Glow?” “Oh now, I couldn’t possibly take my gift away from the princess~. What would my parents think if I confiscated those from royalty~?” Cozy Glow said in a saccharine tone. “Oh… well, more for me then…” Flurry Heart said in a dejected tone. “Aw, don’t be such an angry earth pony~. We are only trying to be nice~.” Cozy Glow teased. In response to Cozy Glow’s condescension, Apple Bloom turned to her and stared at her. Only she wasn’t just staring into the pegasus’s eyes, she was staring into her soul. Cozy Glow felt a feeling of fear and intensity the more that Apple Bloom continued to stare daggers into her. Then Apple Bloom asks in a cold, mocking tone, “Would you like to run that by me again, my cute little pegasus friend?” “N-No, ma’am!” Cozy Glow answered as she sweated hard. Hearing this, Apple Bloom takes her eyes off Cozy Glow and returns to watching out for Flurry Heart while she continues downing the cookie basket. But before she could say anything, Cozy Glow notices a few guards walking their way. So Cozy Glow says to Flurry Heart, “You can keep the basket. I gotta get going. Let me know if you want me to come over…!” “W-Wait! I thought you needed to sell more cookies!” Flurry Heart shouted as Cozy Glow ran away. Just then, the guards walked towards the princess and bowed before her. Then one of them asks, “Your Highness, did you happen to see a thief with a basket full of cookies?” “A thief? Do you mean Cozy Glow?” Flurry Heart asked in a clueless tone. “Yes. She was carrying a basket that looked exactly like that. Did you happen to see where she went?” the second guard asked. “She went over into that direction, I guess. What do you want with her?” Flurry Heart asked, curious about the guards’ plans. “We just want to ask her some questions, princess. Carry on. Although we will need the cookie basket as evidence.” the first guard answered. “What? But I wasn’t finished! Although I am starting to get full…” Flurry Heart said as she heard her stomach no longer growl. “Very good. Is it okay if we use it?” the second guard asked. “Sure, I guess.” Flurry Heart answered as she gave them the basket. “Thank you, Your Highness. We hope you enjoyed the cookies…!” the first guard shouted as he and the second guard left their sight. After seeing them leave, Apple Bloom said to Flurry Heart, “You will not see her anymore.” “What? Why?” Flurry Heart asked. “Because she is a thief and she was trying to sell her way into the circle of trust.” Apple Bloom said in a brutally honest manner. “But we don’t know that. She could only be doing it, just so that she can eat like us.” Flurry Heart said, trying to defend Cozy Glow. ‘Which is exactly why you won’t see her anymore.” Apple Bloom said in a serious tone. “But she-!” Flurry Heart said before being cut off by Apple Bloom. “But me no buts. I don’t care whether you two share a blood connection or not. You will not see her anymore. Do I make myself clear…?” Apple Bloom asked, asserting her dominance as Flurry Heart’s bodyguard. “Crystal…” Flurry Heart responded in a defeated tone. “Now let’s go. It’s getting late.” Apple Bloom said as she got off her seat. “But it’s still early. We didn’t get to look at the statues long enough and I’m not even tired.” Flurry Heart whined. “Well, I’m tired…” Apple Bloom said as she started to walk away. Having no other choice but to obey her, Flurry Heart walked back to the castle with Apple Bloom and they stayed there for the entire day. All that the former could do was play with her toys while the latter kept watch on her. When dinnertime rolled around the corner, Flurry Heart was eating by herself once again. And after dinnertime came bedtime. When she was finished tying back her mane and brushing her teeth, Flurry Heart went to her room with Apple Bloom continuing to keep watch. But before the alicorn could go into her room, she turned towards the grumpy earth pony and says, “I love you, Apple Bloom.” But before Apple Bloom could get a chance to look at her, Flurry Heart went into her room and closed the door. She went into her bed and tucked herself in before staring up at the ceiling above her. Flurry Heart had no idea why Apple Bloom was being so mean to her nor why she acted so dismissive of her in the first place. But she decided to figure that out tomorrow as it was already past her bedtime. > Tarot Cards > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Inside a therapeutic room, Starlight was being shown rorschach cards of what she witnessed in her psychotic episodes. The psychologist that was assigned to her spoke all about the summations he came up with and that all she could do was get herself buried in the sea of thought. So many moons have passed and she could do nothing but groan and tune out the voice of the doctor. “Okay! Our session is up! Tempest should be waiting outside for you.” the doctor said as she gathered his things. Without saying a word, Starlight went outside and saw Tempest sitting outside. But before she could leave, the psychologist said, “Oh! I forgot to give you these.” Heading back into his office, he opened one of his desk drawers and pulled out what appeared to be a card deck. “What are these cards?” Starlight asked, feeling suspicious of the deck. “These are cards that I sometimes give to my patients if they have been feeling… lost. Anyway, these are Major Arcana Tarot Cards. They are used by fortune tellers to predict what will come in the future. But only after certains that have already occurred in your life or what will happen next. Go on, give them a go! You might even pick up fortune telling as a hobby. Anyway, I’ll see you next Tuesday. Take care, Starlight!” the doctor said as he went back into his office. After leaving the office, she noticed Tempest in her seat, waiting for her to leave the psychiatrist’s office. Upon seeing her, Tempest got off her seat and asked Starlight, “Are you okay? You sure spent a lot of time in that office.” “I’m fine. That shrink was just spouting his usual nonsense about my psychosis and whatever else you call a diagnosis. Although he did give me this interesting deck of Tarot Cards…” “You mean the cards that are used for fortune telling?” Tempest asked, taking a look at the deck in Starlight’s hooves. “You could say that. Although they are only used when certain events have already occurred or will occur…” Starlight said in a depressed tone. “Well, I hope it’s a good future. The last thing we need is another disaster.” Tempest nervously chuckled before starting to feel depressed as well. Wanting to try and raise her spirits after seeing Starlight suffer a mental breakdown, Tempest said, “You know, Flurry Heart made a friend outside the castle while you were busy.” “Really? What’s her name?” Starlight asked with her interest piqued. “Her name is Cozy Glow. I don’t know much about her, but she sells cookies for her family and she often gives them to Flurry Heart for free. Although I’m starting to hear from the guards that she’s actually a thief…” Tempest said in a sad tone. “Well, she can’t be all bad. I mean, she’s trying to support her family in any way she can. Right?” Starlight asked, trying to be a little hopeful. “Maybe. Although it will be heartbreaking to know that Flurry Heart won’t be allowed to see her anymore…” Tempest said while they passed the stained glass windows. Walking past the mirror hall while Tempest continued speaking, Starlight started to see the images of her nightmares as she noticed them. It all just added more to the emotional guilt while walking through the hallway. Then she started to hear voices. They were filled with anger, guilt, sorrow, and whatever negative emotion that Starlight could feel as she walked. “...Starlight?!” Tempest shouted, scaring the unicorn out of her wits. Starlight looked around and saw that there was nopony left to scare her. She was still sweaty, but she regained her composure a bit and said, “Y-Yeah. I’m fine. Just feeling a little hot. Makes me want an iced tea right about now.” “We’ll go make some then.” Tempest said as she began escorting Starlight. But before they could go to the tea room, they were stopped by a couple guards. One of them announced, “Princess Cadance requires your presence. She wants you in the meeting room immediately.” before returning to his post.  Starlight and Tempest were quite baffled by the announcement, but it wouldn’t have been important if any of the guards were tasked for this assignment. “Will you be okay?” Tempest asked, touching Starlight’s head to feel her temperature. “I’m fine. Nothing an iced tea wouldn’t do. But let’s just get this meeting over with. I’m thirsty.” Starlight assured her friend as she turned the other direction. “Just don’t hesitate to tell me anything if you’re feeling unwell…” Tempest said, joining after her fellow hornless unicorn. The pair immediately went towards the meeting room where Cadance was sitting at the very end with Shining Armor standing on her left side while Sunset was seated near them on the right side of the room. Upon entering, the windows were blocked off by the blinds, the lights were completely turned off, and every guard was stationed in each corner of the room. “I am glad you two have made it. We have something to discuss.” Sunset said as she had them take a seat at the table. Nervous but knowing that there must be a good reason behind this meeting, Starlight and Tempest took on the left side of the table. After watching them sat down, Cadance said, “Now that everypony has arrived here, I have something important to discuss with all of you.” Everypony kept quiet and paid attention to what Cadance needed to say. “As all of you are aware, my daughter has been frequently meeting this cookie-girl named Cozy Glow everyday now. While I’m aware that you are beginning to question my request on calling you all here, listen to what I have to say first before passing judgement on my reasoning. I have recently heard reports that she has been heading in and out of Canterlot and multiple ponies from the market are telling me that half their supply has turned up missing. We currently have no idea why, but Cozy Glow may have reason that she is plotting against us and is using her occupation as a cover to infiltrate our home. And that she is using Flurry Heart to gain access. Do any of you have questions?” “I do. Why would she be heading in and out of Canterlot? And why would she plot against us?” Tempest asked. “Of that, we are uncertain. But she was last seen heading to and from the mountains. Nopony has headed towards the mountains ever since the Abyssal Invasion and we are inclined to believe that something is inside those mountains if Cozy Glow is using them as her hideout.” Shining Armor answered. “But wouldn’t that mean having to scavenge for supplies in Everfree Forest and committing theft against our kingdom? It just wouldn’t make sense for a pony, let alone a filly, to rummage off into the wilderness.” Starlight said. “Whatever the case may be, Cozy knows something. We are currently having her trailed and Zecora is currently figuring out what it is inside the mountains. If Cozy Glow has plans to commit treason against New Equestria, she will be arrested on sight.” Cadance said. “Does Flurry Heart know about this…?” Tempest asked. “No. And it’s better that it stays that way. If she were to know the truth, it would not end well. But when the time is right, she will come to understand why we did it. However, that is a subject for another time. All of you are dismissed.” Cadance said as she adjourned the meeting. After they all left, Starlight and Tempest left the room and saw Apple Bloom with Flurry Heart right beside her. Upon seeing them, Flurry Heart asked, “Hi, Aunty Starlight! Are you okay?” “I’m fine. Although I would appreciate it if you didn’t yell so loud…” Starlight chuckled as she rubbed her head. “Oh. I’m sorry…” Flurry Heart said as she rubbed her head. “Don’t be. It’s great to see you, Your Highness. Do you want to get iced tea?” Starlight asked. “Is it okay if I get ice cream…?” Flurry Heart asked, trying to get tricky. “Okay. But only one scoop. You’ll get a sugar rush.” Tempest said while raising a playful eyebrow. “Thank you!” Flurry Heart said as she rode on Tempest’s back. “But we will be only outside for just a few hours. So no complaining, okay?” Tempest said. “Fine…” Flurry Heart said in a glum tone. They immediately left the castle to explore Canterlot for a bit with time to spare. But while they were getting ready to buy iced tea and ice-cream, they were unknowingly being watched by Cozy Glow from afar and she had a very sinister grin on her face. > Infiltration > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Watching from the shadows, Cozy Glow reached into her bag and pulled out a bracelet filled with the Ooze before putting it on. Clicking a button, she let out a small droplet and it slowly grew to Cozy’s size. After watching it grow a bit, Cozy Glow said, “You know what to do. As soon as we get the princesses, we will be out of here. No exceptions!” When she finished explaining her small plans to the Ooze, it dissolved into the ground and crawled its way to Canterlot. Turning her attention towards Flurry Heart, Cozy Glow says with a vicious smile on her face, “Now the wait…” . . . When the group was finished eating their ice-cream, they got off their seats and immediately went back to the castle. Flurry Heart had no idea why they were heading back home nor why she hadn't seen Cozy Glow yet, but she could feel that something was wrong. So she asked, “How come we are going back to the castle early?” “It’s not safe right now, princess.” Tempest answered. “What do you mean? Nopony attacking us.” Flurry Heart asked as she looked around her surroundings. “No, but it will inevitably happen. So for now, we need to go back to the castle where it’s safe. And for the time being, we can’t afford to trust nopony.” Starlight said while checking the town. “I don’t understand. Why are you acting weird now?” Flurry Heart asked, not knowing what the situation is. “We will tell you when the time is right. Now please be a good princess and trust us.” Tempest said while carrying Flurry Heart. “Okay…” Flurry Heart said, feeling crushed by their authority. When they got closer to the castle, Tempest said, “As soon as we head inside, go to the throne room. The queen needs to hear the details.” “Right!” Starlight responded. The trio shortly arrived back at the castle and they were immediately greeted by the castle guards. Upon entering, they immediately accompanied Tempest as they went to Flurry Heart’s room while Starlight walked to the throne room. She was so confused by the situation that she could hardly think about sweets. It was like being pulled into a puzzle room without one’s knowledge and figuring out where the exit was. Flurry Heart couldn’t figure out what was going on and all she could do was comply with Tempest's orders. But then Flurry Heart says, “I want to see my mom and dad. Where are they?” “They’re busy, Flurry Heart. As soon as they have finished their duties, you may see them.” Tempest answered. “But Aunty Tempest, I don’t understand why we need to be here! This is all confusing!” Flurry Heart shouted. “I don’t care if you don’t like it! This is all for your own good! If you don’t like it, then too bad!” Tempest shouted back. Flurry Heart flinched at the sound of Tempest’s voice. She had no idea what was bothering her, but she was heartbroken by the unicorn’s sudden treatment. After arriving near her room, Tempest put Flurry Heart down and set her inside. “Wait here until I or your parents arrive. Don’t leave the room.” Tempest said before closing the door. As soon as they left, Flurry Heart ran over to her bed, almost ready to cry. “What did I do…? I just wanted some ice-cream…” Flurry Heart said as she hugged her teddy bear. . . . Tempest and the guards walked all over to the castle throne room where Queen Cadance and Shining Armor awaited them along with Starlight and Sunset. After entering the room, the doors immediately closed and it was only them. “Has anypony followed you?” Cadance asked. “Nopony has been around us. We should be safe, Your Highness.” Tempest answered. “I see. Double the patrols and check across the castle for any intruders. Nopony is to enter the castle until further notice.” Cadance ordered. “Yes, Your Highness! And about your daughter, she was escorted to her room without any hiccups.” Tempest said even further. “Thank you. Is our daughter okay?” Cadance asked. “She is confused. She has no idea why she needed to be taken here and she was almost close to crying. Do you think it’s wise, having your daughter in such distress when she is still just a filly?” Tempest asked. “It’s for her own good. Even if she doesn’t like it, she needs to be protected at all costs. As her queen and as her mother, her safety comes first and I will not tolerate disobedience. Am I clear?” Cadance explained. “Yes, Your Majesty…” Tempest said, starting to feel regret. “Now that you confirmed my worries, you are to keep watch for the time being until Cozy Glow has been brought to us. So come to attention!” Cadance commanded as she rose off her throne. Bowing her head, Tempest complied to her wishes and left the throne room with the guards. Cadance dismissed both Starlight and Sunset as well before proceeding to leave the throne room. “I hope Flurry Heart is okay. She must be sad about now.” Cadance said in a worried tone. “You did what all of us would do. As long as she is inside the castle, nopony can get to her. Besides, the Abyss has been gone for ten years and that’s not even including the activities that the creatures have tried to implement against us.” Shining Armor said, trying to comfort his wife. “I hope you’re right, Shining Armor. Because I have a feeling that something big is coming. And it’s right under our noses. It’s only a matter of time until it reveals itself.” Cadance said, starting to feel nervous. “How right you are.” a voice called out. “Who goes there!?” Shining Armor shouted, immediately recognizing the voice and activating his horn along with Cadance. Queen Cadance and Shining Armor stood close to one another, careful anticipating when they would be attacked. All of a sudden, the windows were blocked off by the Ooze and all that accompanied the married couple was darkness. Cadance and Shining Armor were at a loss for words and they couldn’t discern fact from fiction. “Whoever you are, reveal yourself! The longer it takes us to find you, the worse your punishment will be!” Shining Armor warned with intense anger in his voice. “I wouldn’t make threats if I were you~.” a strange new voice said with a threatening giggle. Having finally heard the voice and confirming their suspicions, it all became with whom Cadance and Shining Armor are dealing with. “After all, your daughter has a play date to attend~.” this warped voice threatened. “We knew it…” Cadance said with a low, angry voice. . . . Inside the upstairs hallway with various slaughtered guards, Cozy Glow was standing outside Flurry Heart’s room, carrying a scary smile on her face. > Deal > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Standing right in front of Flurry Heart’s room, Cozy Glow was ready to make her move. But she knew that subtlety needed to be her approach. Because if the young alicorn were to find about the pegasus’s scheme, she would be immediately turned in or worse. So taking that scenario into precaution, Cozy Glow made the Ooze dispose of the corpses as well as the blood and knocked on the door. “Who is it?” Flurry Heart asked. “It’s me, Cozy Glow! I’ve come to play!” Cozy Glow answered, putting on a cheery tone. “Huh!?” Flurry Heart said before rushing to the door. After opening it, Flurry Heart pulled Cozy Glow into her room and immediately closed it. Then she turned to the pegasus and asked in a panicked tone, “What are you doing here? You’re not supposed to be here!” . . . Cadence and Shining Armor were cornered by the Ooze and they had no way of calling for help. All they could do was lighten up their makeshift horns and get into a defensive stance. “What do you want…?” Cadance asked in a cold, hostile tone. “You know what I want~. I want you and your daughter’s magic, so that I can take the throne~!” “Why…? We fought for you! We defeated the Abyss! Why would you want to cause another tragedy against us!?” Cadance shouted, trying to make sense of the sinister pegasus’s ambitions. “Why…? It doesn’t take a scholar to figure out why I’m doing this, Your Highness. It’s about power! While it may not seem that much to you, I have a much bigger goal than either of you and I intend on taking it, whether you want it or not. And that would require your power~. Including Flurry Heart’s.” Cozy Glow explained. Hearing this made Shining Armor remove his half-mask, revealing his Glasgow smile in the process. He charged his horn even higher and fired it at Cozy Glow’s replica, causing the Ooze to drop like a vase full of water. “If you think that we’re gonna let you touch our daughter, you are sorely mistaken. We have been through a helluva lot worse than you will ever come to understand and we sure as Tartarus won’t allow you to touch our daughter.” Shining Armor said in a calm, yet angry tone. “Flurry Heart is our entire world. And if you have done anything to her, I swear that I won’t rest until I have your HEAD!!!” Cadance threatened as she fired her horn at the Ooze. But this time, they missed and it struck the doors. Cadance and Shining Armor attempted to exit the throne room, but they were blocked off by the Abyss once more. The royal couple were ready for anything. However, Cozy Glow said to Queen Cadance, “How about we make a deal~? If you come with me, I’ll make sure that Flurry Heart won’t have it as bad as you do when we begin the resurrection spell!~. Does that sound like a fair deal~?” “How about a different deal? You let my family go and you spend time in the dungeon for a thousand years!” Shining Armor shouted as he prepared to fire his horn. “I wasn’t talking to you, unicorn.” Cozy Glow said as she shoved Shining Armor against the wall with the Ooze. Turning her attention back towards Cadance, Cozy Glow asked, “So how about it, Princess~? You, or your husband~?” Cadance was hard-pressed by this sadistic choice. It was either her or her husband and it would end well, no matter what choice she made. And Flurry Heart would be in danger, regardless of her next actions. . . . Flurry Heart had a hard time wrapping her mind around Cozy Glow's arrival. One part of her is happy to see her, but something felt wrong. Her parents wouldn't allow anypony to visit the castle during lockdown and they would especially be the first to know about visitors. "Do mommy and daddy know that you came in here…?" Flurry Heart asked in an unsure tone. "Sure! I made sure to talk with Commander Tempest first before I came inside. Although Apple Bloom did have doubts about me…" Cozy Glow said, lying through her teeth. "Well, Apple Bloom has been awfully mean since I was still a foal. But what about Starlight and Sunset? Do they also know?" Flurry Heart asked. “They do know. What’s the matter? Don’t you trust me, Flurry Heart?” Cozy Glow asked, pretending to show concern for the young alicorn. “I do trust you, but you’re not supposed to be here. What if you get caught? I don’t want to lose my very first friend.” Flurry Heart said, feeling worried for her pegasus friend. Cozy Glow was happy to see that Flurry Heart was taking the bait, but all these questions were slowly annoying her and she wanted to be out of the castle as soon as possible. She could feel her hold on the Ooze beginning to slip away, so she had to make it quick. “Say… why don’t you and I go for a quick around the castle? Just you and me.” Cozy Glow suggested. “But I can’t leave my room. If I do, I’ll get in trouble.” Flurry Heart said, fearing the consequences. “Don’t worry. It’ll only be fifteen minutes. Nopony will notice.” Cozy Glow said as she started pulling the princess out of her room. Knowing that she had no other choice and feeling that Cozy Glow was doing no harm to her, Flurry Heart said as she followed Cozy Glow, “Okay, but no more than ten minutes. I don’t want another lecture from Aunty Tempest.” “It’ll be fine. Trust me. C’mon! Let’s go play~!” the pegasus said in a playful tone. Feeling that there would be no harm in leaving her room for ten minutes, Flurry Heart conceded to Cozy Glow’s demand and left her room. The two proceeded to play around the castle for a few minutes, all the while Cozy Glow was leading Flurry Heart into the throne room where Queen Cadance and Shining Armor were being held hostage. . . . While Flurry Heart and Cozy Glow were playing around the castle, Cadance and Shining Armor could overhear their daughter being lured to their throne like a cat to a laser. “I hope you enjoy that laughter. Because when she comes in here… I will be the one laughing.” “If you so much as yank a feather off my daughter’s wings, I will-!” Shining Armor was suddenly pressed even further into the wall. He felt his insides getting crushed and he was coughing out blood the more flattened he became. “Stop it!” Cadance yelled before trying to electrocute the Ooze. But before she could get a zap on the Abyss, she was punched in the stomach and slammed into the ground before dousing her horn with the Ooze. “Nah, ah ah~! Think of your daughter~. I don’t even want to imagine what will happen next if you try that little stunt again~.” Cozy Glow said in a sadistic, saccharine tone. Cadance was now entirely helpless and had no way of fighting back against Cozy Glow or the Ooze. “Although if I don’t get Flurry Heart down to the throne room, I will just have to settle for you. Guess I’ll just have to- what!?” “What are you doing out here…?” Tempest asked. “Oh no…”  . . . Flurry Heart and Cozy Glow were spotted by Tempest and Apple Bloom when they played around in the castle hallway. Cozy Glow was immediately in trouble, but Flurry Heart felt a great terror loom from the adult mares. And she knew that they were in for it. > Outburst > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Having already been caught by Tempest and Apple Bloom, Cozy Glow was at a stalemate. Seeing that she had failed to lure Flurry Heart into the throne room, the sinister young pegasus was left with no choice. “Oh h-hello, Aunty Tempest… I was just-” Flurry Heart said before being cut off by Tempest. “I told you to wait in your room until I returned. Yet you had the nerve to defy me and run off with her of all ponies…” Tempest said as she eyed Cozy Glow.  Cozy Glow slowly started to back away from Flurry Heart as she planned her escape. The latter took notice and tried to follow after the former, but Tempest ordered, “Stay where you are.” The chilliness that echoed in Tempest’s voice struck Flurry Heart into staying still. “For Celestia’s sake! Guess I’ll have to settle on second place for the time being…” Cozy Glow said as she backed away. . . . Seeing as Cozy Glow was cornered with little choice other than to escape, the Abyss took over and said, “You will be my feast…” “Wha-!?” Cadance shouted before her mouth was covered Just then, Cadance was pulled into the Ooze and disappeared before dropping the severely wounded Shining Armor to the ground. Slowly dragging himself to the wall, he pulled himself up and punched the alarm, sending out a blaring alarm to all of the guards. Afterwards, he sat himself down next to the wall and rested until the guards arrived. . . . The others were startled by the noise, but it didn’t take away their attention from Cozy Glow. Pretty soon, they were joined by the rest of the castle guards and they surrounded the pegasus. Confused by all this, Flurry Heart shouted, “Aunty Tempest, what are you doing!?” “Apple Bloom, take the princess to her room and don’t let her leave!” Tempest commanded, ignoring Flurry Heart’s question. Apple Bloom nodded in compliance and started taking Flurry Heart away. “Wait! Aunty Tempest, what is all this!? Let me go!” Flurry Heart shouted, trying to figure out what was going on before being pulled out of the hallway completely. After waiting for Flurry Heart to be taken back, Tempest shifted her focus towards Cozy Glow and commanded the guards to take their positions before aiming their spears and crossbows at the young pegasus. “What do you want? And why do you wish to destroy us after everything we did for you?” Tempest asked in a menacing tone. “Oh it’s simple, Commander Tempest~. Power is everything~. Admiration is key~. Might is right~. I want the throne~. And the Royal Family is on loan~.” Flurry Heart said in a sing-song tone. “What does that mean?” Tempest said before glowing her horn. “Exactly what it means…” Cozy Glow said before her eyes started to glow. Tempest stopped and signalled the guards to stay away for the moment. Quietly giggling to herself, the Ooze began sprouting out of the ground. And out of the puddle came Queen Cadance. “I knew it…” Tempest said in a quiet, angry tone. “It’s a shame I couldn’t get to Flurry Heart~. She is so naive and stupid that she doesn’t know the difference between a stranger and a mentally retarded puppy~!” Cozy Glow shouted, mocking everypony in front of her before laughing. Angered by this insult towards Flurry Heart and the Royal Family, Tempest shouted, “Fire!!!” Upon command, everypony fired with all they had at Cozy Glow. But to their dismay, she caught their weapons with the Ooze before firing them back towards the guards, nearly killing all of them with Tempest only receiving a few grazes. Using this opportunity, Cozy Glow turned around to make her escape. “If any of you can stand, do not let her get away!!!” Tempest ordered before giving chase. . . . Being pulled by her left wing up to her room, Apple Bloom wouldn't cease her rough treatment towards Flurry Heart until they made it to her room. "Why are you being so mean to me?! Cozy Glow just wanted to play with me!" Flurry Heart shouted. "You were not supposed to leave your room! Commander Tempest specifically said you weren't supposed to leave your room!" Apple Bloom responded. "But why!? Everypony just took me back to my room without an answer and I'm supposed to listen like nothing bad has happened!?" Flurry Heart shouted even further, demanding answers. That's right, princess. And until either the queen or Commander Tempest returns, you're not leaving this room." Apple Bloom said, trying to keep her cool. "But why!? Are you doing this just to be mean!? Just what did I do to deserve your anger!?" Flurry Heart asked, trying to make sense of Apple Bloom's resentment. "You don't want to go there, princess." Apple Bloom warned. "Admit it! You hate me! You're just doing all this because you have nopony else to talk to and all you do is make excuses to hide whatever you're feeling! Did I hit the nail on the head!? Or am I-!?" Flurry Heart shouted before being pushed against the wall. Apple Bloom has fully lost her patience with Flurry  Heart and the earth pony is now staring daggers into the young alicorn's soul. “Tempest told you to wait until she arrived. You didn’t. Thanks to you, she had to alert half the guards in town and your parents panicked for your safety. Do you know how that makes her feel, Flurry Heart?” “I know that wasn’t supposed to wander off on my own. But I saw Cozy Glow near my room and I-” Flurry Heart said with a nearly breaking voice before being cut off by Apple Bloom. “It doesn’t matter if there is another pony you know. What if you disappeared somewhere? What if you were kidnapped? What would happen then? If anything bad happened to you, she wouldn’t stop. Saying sorry to me won’t fix what you did today.” Tempest said before pulling Flurry Heart once more. “I’m sorry, Apple Bloom…” Flurry Heart said, trying to apologize for her mistake. Refusing to listen, Apple Bloom continued to pull Flurry Heart. But the latter furiously pulled away and got in a kneeling position before breaking down in a sobbing voice, “I’m sorry, Aunty Tempest! I just wanted to have some fun for a bit! Why are all of you being so mean to me?” Then Flurry Heart fell on the ground and covered her face with her wings as she wailed. Seeing this made Apple Bloom feel ashamed of her early actions, especially after all that she’s been through in the past ten years. Walking over to Flurry Heart, Apple Bloom tenderly moved her wings to the side and faced her with tears in her eyes. Gently picking her up, Apple Bloom wiped the tears off Flurry Heart’s face and hugged her. “I’m sorry.” Apple Bloom said in an ashamed tone. Flurry Heart continued to cry for a good twenty minutes before calming down. Hearing her crying settle down a bit, Apple Bloom proposed, “How about we walk around Canterlot tomorrow? Have some ice-cream while I tell you that story you love so much?” “I would love that, Big Sis Apple Bloom,” Flurry Heart said in a quiet voice. The two hugged each other as tightly as they could for a few minutes before heading back to the castle. Upon their arrival, they were greeted by a worrisome Starlight as well as Sunset. But over in the corner, Flurry Heart could see her father resting on a stretcher. "Daddy!" Flurry Heart tearfully shouted as she ran over to his side. "He's okay, Your Highness. Although it may take a day until your father can breathe properly." The medic said he looked at Shining Armor's unconscious body. Hearing this horrified Flurry Heart and all she could do was watch her father get taken away on a stretcher while trying to make sense of what happened today. > Resolve > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Flurry Heart followed after the medical team as they hauled Shining Armor over to the infirmary. She was filled with worry after seeing the damage done to him and he’s hardly even begun to suffer. But even with all that said, he was still breathing, albeit shallowly. Upon arriving at the infirmary, Shining Armor was brought into the medical and Flurry Heart was blocked off from entering. “Let me in! I want to see my daddy!” Flurry Heart begged, trying to let herself. “We understand, Your Highness. But your daddy is in critical condition and if you want to see him again, you need to let us do our job.” the surgeon doctor said. “But I don’t understand what happened! Where’s mommy? I need to see her!” Flurry Heart demanded, trying to figure out where Cadance was. “We don’t know, princess. She was already gone by the time we arrived here. But right now, we need to focus on your father. So please wait until we are finished. Good day.” the surgeon doctor said before closing the door. Flurry Heart was stunned by everything that has happened to her today. First, she was taken back to the castle without knowing why. Then she was yelled at for no reason other than leaving her room. Now she figures out that her father might be dying. And to add insult to injury, her mother is now missing. At this point for Flurry Heart, life couldn’t get any worse than it has now. “Your Highness!” a voice shouted. Flurry Heart raised her head and saw Starlight, running over to her along with Tempest and Sunset. Stopping right where she is, Tempest looks right at the princess and checks to see if there was any damage done to her, much to Flurry Heart’s dismay. When she was finished, Tempest said in a serious tone, “I thought I told you to wait until either me or Apple Bloom returned to your room. Did you know how much that hurt me? To see my niece gallivanting off without my knowledge of your whereabouts? I had to send out the entire guards to search for you! Why couldn’t-!” “That’s enough, Tempest. Flurry Heart is already hurting from her missing mother. We don’t need to drive the knife even further.” Apple Bloom said, coming to Flurry Heart’s defense. Having heard this, Tempest ceased her little tirade on Flurry Heart and proceeded to hug her as tightly as she could. “I’m so sorry for the way I treated you earlier. I was only trying to protect you and everypony was so busy trying to find the kidnapper who took your mother that we just lost focus. Losing you would’ve been the straw that broke the camel’s back.” Tempest said, feeling remorse for her previous actions. While Flurry Heart felt slight relief filling her body after hearing Tempest’s apology, it still didn’t account for Cadance’s disappearance and she wanted to know where she was. Even if it meant having to leave the castle to find her. “Aunty Tempest? Do you know where mommy is?” Flurry Heart asked. “I don’t know. Although I have a pretty good idea of where she’s being held…” Tempest answered as she turned the other direction. “What do you mean?” Flurry Heart asked, beginning to suspect what Tempest was thinking. “Apple Bloom, keep watch on Flurry Heart until we return. We have some hunting to do.” Tempest said as she and Sunset followed suit. “Wait! Take me with you, Aunty Tempest! I need to find my mommy!” Flurry Heart demanded. “I am afraid that is out of the question, Your Highness. If you come with us, your life will be in even more danger than you were already in.” Tempest said in a serious tone. “But my mommy is out there! What good is a princess if she can’t find her mommy?” Flurry Heart said in a tearful manner. “No, Flurry Heart! This is bigger than you! If you join us, we will lose not just a princess, but the entire kingdom! Do you want that weighing on your conscience?” Tempest shouted once more. Flurry Heart stood back from hearing Aunty Tempest’s yell and felt herself ready to cry once more. Seeing what she has done once again, Tempest goes forward and lifts Flurry Heart’s chin up. “I’m sorry for the way I’ve been treating you, but this is something that we have to do. And after seeing you leave your room without permission, you destroyed the trust that I placed in you.” Tempest said. “But leaving the room wasn’t my idea! It was Cozy’s!” Flurry Heart said, trying to defend herself. “It doesn’t matter if it was Cozy Glow’s idea or yours. The fact of the matter is that you left your room without my knowledge and you exploited whatever trust I had in you. Hearing that armor-piercing counterargument, Flurry Heart lowered her head in shame. “I’m sorry Flurry Heart, but you can’t join us.” Tempest regretfully said before leaving the medical section. But as they walked away, they didn’t hear a word out of Flurry Heart’s mouth. It was like they fired a bolt into her heart. Tempest felt a mixture of emotions fly around in her body as she reflected on what she said to Flurry Heart back in the medical area. “Are you feeling okay?” Sunset asked, feeling concerned for the guilty unicorn. “I’m fine. Just worried about what will happen to Cadance is all.” Tempest said, trying to shake off the feeling of remorse. “I’m worried too.” Starlight said with a heavy heart. That feeling hit Tempest like a runaway carriage with barrels. But even with all that, she needed to focus on the task at hand. Whether it was trying to search for Cadance or capturing Cozy Glow, one thing was certain; another threat was coming and it could be much bigger than the Abyssal Invasion. And they needed to find the Queen before it was too late. . . . Meanwhile in the Everfree Forest, Cozy Glow was walking through the thick bushes while evading capture from the guards. She was angry that her chance to capture Flurry Heart slipped through her hooves, but she was content to see that Cadance was in her clutches and ready to begin her ceremony. Having made her way back into the cave, she was greeted by various members of the Abyssal Kingdom. “Hello everybody~. I have a gift for all of you~.” Cozy Glow said with a sinister grin as she lifted Cadance out of the Ooze. > Resurgence > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Regaining her consciousness, Cadance woke up and found herself laying on a stone table, tied up and gagged. She looked around and saw various creatures surrounding the stone table. Having already figured out that something sinister is bound to occur, she tries to break out of her bond by using her horn. But to her horror, it was covered in Ooze and deemed useless. As she continues to struggle, she flips to the right side and discovers someone familiar. Upon getting a closer look, she discovers that it was the corpse of the baby dragon who nearly destroyed Old Equestria… Spike. “He looks nice, doesn’t he~?” a voice spoke, hovering over the captive alicorn. Cadance looks up and it turns out to be none other than Cozy Glow. Having finally realized the truth, Cadance glares at the young pegasus and tries to break loose from her binds. But it proved to be fruitless as Cozy Glow gave her a smug grin while playing with Spike’s corpse. “Those binds holding your body are smudged in the Ooze. Even if you were blessed with the powers of the Shadow King, you have no chance of escaping. So please quit struggling and LISTEN TO ME!!!!” Cozy Glow yelled. After realizing that she exploded, Cozy Glow regained her composure, she said, “If I remove the gag, you will not scream~. If you do, I’ll have my minions eat you alive~. Your daughter will be next too~. Now please be a good alicorn and be quiet~.” Cadence shot another glare in response, but complied to Cozy’s demand. Doing like she promised, Cozy Glow moved on top of Cadance and took her gag off. After removing her gag, Cozy Glow continued in a venomous tone, “While I’m not sure when your friends will arrive, your daughter will be wanting to rescue you~. But that stupid daughter of yours… she is so naive~! She’s like a cat wandering into a dog yard~! How she’s even your daughter is beyond me~! Always crying when nothing goes her way and always pretending that everything is all candy mountains and chocolate milk lakes~! Wah~! Wah~! Wah~! She’s a pathetic excuse of a princess~! Just-!” Cozy Glow was nearly zapped from a short distance by Cadance and barely missed. “One more insult about my daughter and I promise that I won’t miss the next shot, Cozy Glow.” Cadance coldly said. “Is that a dare I hear~? We will see about that, my queen~.” said Cozy Glow before turning to one of the shamans and saying to a hippogriff, “How long will it be until the magic transfer is complete, Hans~?” “It will take an hour until the light and dark magic is transferred into the God of Shadows. And knowing those meddlesome ponies, they shouldn’t be far behind.” Hans answered. “Precisely~. Which is why we will be sending in a diversion~. Some of you dragons and griffins need to deal with some critters in the forest~. Give us all the time we need~.” Cozy Glow commanded in a snotty tone. “Yes, ma’am!” most of the dragons said before turning away in a disgusted tone. Turning her attention back to Cadance, Cozy Glow said, “Now let’s see how much magic you hold in that broken tooth on your forehead~.” “My daughter will stop you. You just don’t know it yet.” Cadance said once again in a cold tone. “Whatever you say~. Begin ritual~!” ordered Cozy Glow. Hearing her command, Hans, along with the hippogriffs, pounded their staffs into the ground in a rhythmic fashion. Several minutes into the ritual, they begin this chanting with a deep choir-like voice to their incantation as they raise their staffs. The next thing that happened, lightning came out of their staffs and formed a sphere above Cadance and Spike. Panicking, Cadance tried breaking free from her binds. But it was all in vain as two lightning bolts entered Cadance’s horn and their mouths before their energy started getting sucked out. Cadance felt nothing but pain as her magic started disappearing. But just then, Spike started coming back to life and he screamed in agony of having his dark energy being taken out of his body and into the mummified goat. . . . Hearing the screams from far away, the trio moved forward with caution and vigilance. Even after what happened ten years ago, Everfree Forest was still a dangerous place and everypony rarely ever goes into the place as it still has a dark presence. But regardless, they were halfway towards finding the source of the Ooze and they were certain that Cozy Glow had already begun the ritual. “I can hear the screaming from across here.” Starlight said. “If Cozy Glow has already begun the ritual, then we need to hurry. Celestia knows what she’s planning against us.” Tempest said with a dreadful feeling in her stomach. “We better keep going then. If Cozy Glow has already started, then we will be in even greater danger than ever before.” Sunset said she felt the source of the dark energy. Moving through the entire forest, they could already feel the aura surrounding them. It was a feeling that they remember all too well after defeating the Shadow King ten years ago.  Sooner or later, there would have to be an ambush. And whatever ambush they would run into, they would be ready. Sweat trickled down their heads, butterflies flew in their stomach, and their mentalities were steeled for the dangers they were prepared to face. Having already wandered into enemy territory, they readied themselves for the worst. But suddenly, they heard, “CONTACT!!!” Dragons and griffins jumped out of the bushes and fired at the trio. Immediately, they dodged out of the way and fought back against the creatures that ambushed them. They were able to take them out, but they weren’t out of the woods yet. Just then, the Ooze took over their bodies and morphed their bodies into large abominations before facing the trio. “NoW. LEt’s SEe hOW STRonG yOU REallY ArE…” one of the malformed dragons said as the trio got into fighting stances. > Determination > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Meanwhile back at the castle, Flurry Heart still remained in the waiting room while Apple Bloom stood by her side. The former was worried about her father’s wellbeing, but she is more frightened about where her mother was. And there was almost nothing that the latter could do after the way she has been towards the Royal Family over the years as a guard. Not even factoring in the hostility she held to the little alicorn princess by proxy. “I’m sure they’re okay. There’s nothing they can’t power through. They’ve survived worse, believe me.” Apple Bloom nervously chuckled, trying to lift Flurry Heart’s spirits. Sadly, her efforts to cheer up the hurting princess were in vain. Apple Bloom couldn’t stop thinking about the times she acted cold to Flurry Heart nor the times when she became a soldier to the Kingdom of New Equestria. Not even accounting for the times when she acted dismissive towards her old classmates when they attempted to greet her as well as her adoptive mother, Tempest, tried reaching out for her. But in the end, Apple Bloom was at a loss. “What am I supposed to do…? Is there really nothing you can do to comfort her? What would Tempest or Starlight do?” Apple Bloom thought as she kept her eyes on Flurry Heart. Depressed out of her mind and limited on options concerning Flurry Heart, Apple Bloom got out of her seat and approached the little alicorn. Leaving her spear on the wall and her helmet on the chair, Apple Bloom faced the seemingly distraught princess and enveloped her in a hug. Flurry Heart was shocked by this approach from the earth pony, especially after the way that the latter has been towards the former over the years. "I'm sorry… for what I said earlier. I shouldn't have lashed at you like that. I guess I'm just not used to knowing somepony who can stay happy during all this. If I may make a small request… don't make the same mistake I did." Apple Bloom said in a remorseful tone. “Apple Bloom…” Flurry Heart said in a surprised tone. “Please don’t take this away from me. I haven’t opened up like this anypony ever since the… ever since the day that I lost everything. Whenever I look at you sometimes… all that I could think about was how stupid I was to have ever been the type to trust my family and what it must’ve been like to have that feeling again. The only regret that I have… was not paying attention to my elders and acting like I already knew the world. So please… don’t repeat what I did to you. Flurry Heart.” Apple Bloom said. Feeling the need to cheer up Apple Bloom as well as herself, Flurry Heart said “I know what it’s like to be alone, Big Sis.” Apple Bloom slightly released Flurry Heart in surprise and looked down at the young alicorn. She was interested in what she had to say, but felt like she was just trying to spare her feelings at the same time. Yet Apple Bloom decided to hear what she had to say. “I don’t really have a lot of friends and I’m never allowed to play with anypony else outside of the grownups, most of the time. But whenever I’m with you, I just like I have somepony to be with. Somepony that I can be close to. Mommy and Daddy don’t really spend a lot of time with me. And whenever they do have the time, they just argue over their duties. But right now, I just want to be with the pony who’s hugging me.” Flurry Heart said as she hugged Apple Bloom back. Touched by Flurry Heart’s words, Apple Bloom hugged her as tightly as she could and she didn’t want to let go of the little princess. But while she held onto her in her embrace, Flurry Heart said, “And I want to rescue my mommy.” “What?” Apple Bloom surprisingly said, slightly releasing Flurry Heart once again. “I know that it sounds crazy, but I can feel Aunty Tempest’s, Aunty Starlight’s, and Aunty Sunset’s magic. And I can feel it disappearing…” Flurry Heart said in a now-scared tone. Apple Bloom’s eyes widened when she heard those words come out of Flurry Heart’s mouth. If there was one thing that the earth pony learned when she was still a filly, it was that unicorns could sense magic. Alicorns were especially advanced when it came to feeling out the magic emanation from around them. Apple Bloom felt her stomach drop the more that she thought about it and she knew that Flurry Heart wasn’t lying. She rushed towards her chair and grabbed her spear and helmet before running out of the lobby. Flurry Heart joined after her as she ran. “You need to stay here, princess! This won’t be like the walks we have around Canterlot! Think about your daddy!” Apple Bloom shouted as she ran. “I know that, but my mommy is out there! If I can’t do anything for my family and New Equestria, then what good is a princess who can’t lift a hoof for her family? Besides, I can feel where they are. You need me if you want to find them!” Flurry Heart shouted as she flew right by Apple Bloom. Apple Bloom already knew it was a lie that she can’t find Cadance, nor Starlight, Sunset, and Tempest… but at this point, there was nothing that she could do to change Flurry Heart’s mind. Deep within herself, the princess’s words reminded her of her fillyhood during the times when she played with her friends and that feeling revisited her as she kept running with the young princess. Holding a small smile, Apple Bloom continued running towards the exit of Canterlot while Flurry Heart continued flying by her side. The town guards tried to stop them, but their efforts proved fruitless as the duo ran outside to the outskirts where the Everfree Forest awaited them. > Everfree Forest > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Making their way through the Everfree Forest after half an hour had passed, everything became quiet. Flurry Heart and Apple Bloom were still hot on the trail, but they still had a ways to go. The only form of sounds that kept them company were the animals that scurried throughout the forest as well as rustling that came from the bushes. Apple Bloom kept Flurry Heart close to her side so that she wouldn’t lose her, but the latter kept ahead of the former and continued sensing the magic as they moved. “Have we gotten closer yet?” Apple Bloom asked. “No. There are many sources of magic, but I can’t feel any of Aunty’s or Mommy’s magic. I hope they are alive.” Flurry Heart said in a worried tone. “They are. Nopony would kill anypony this important if they had a reason. And knowing them, they have been through far worse than this.” Apple Bloom affirmed. “I know, but I can’t feel any of it. All that I can feel is this scary magic up ahead of us and I have no idea why… but it feels… familiar.” Flurry Heart shivered. “That’s because it’s the same magic that you felt before when you were a foal. Only that goes far beyond magic.” Apple Bloom said as she looked around the woods. “What do you mean…?” Flurry Heart said, starting to get worried. “You’ll see when we get closer.” Apple Bloom said, still surveying the area. Flurry Heart had no idea what Apple Bloom meant by it, but continued to press on into the woods. Along the way, they began to hear rustling in the bushes. Only it was louder than the critters that usually roamed the lands. Walking through the woods, Apple Bloom accidentally stepped into something. Looking down, it appeared to be a puddle of blood. The earth pony told the alicorn princess to look away before she dug her hooves into the puddle. Reaching into it, Apple Bloom pulled it out and it appeared to be the corpse of a freshly-killed squirrel.  “Did you find something, Apple Bloom…?” Flurry Heart asked, still keeping her eyes averted. Picking up the smell of various creatures surrounding them, Apple Bloom grabs Flurry Heart and whispers, “Stay by me until I say run.” “O-Okay…” Flurry Heart responded, starting to feel scared. Sweat trickled down Apple Bloom as she readied her spear. Batting her eyes everywhere for enemies, she kept a cool head and waited for the ambush. She and Flurry Heart slowly walked across, keeping themselves quiet while keeping an eye out for the ambushes. But as they kept moving, Flurry Heart heard more rustling in the bushes. Only this time, it was accompanied by a deep growling noise. She looked closer and spotted a pair of glowing, slit eyes in the bushes. Flurry Heart watched it slowly raise its head and on that note, Flurry Heart screamed, “LOOK OUT!!!!!!” Startled by this, Apple Bloom swiftly turned around and a giant manticore jumped out of the bushes. Dodging out of the way, the earth pony thrusted her spear into its head and it died. But this encounter was far from over. Manticores, timberwolves, and various creatures ranging from dragons to griffins jumped out of their hiding spots with their weapons ready as they snarled and growled at the duo. “RUN!!!!!” Apple Bloom shouted. Doing as the earth pony told her, Flurry Heart flew away while Apple Bloom stood behind to fend off their attackers. Apple Bloom ran towards one of the dragons and thrusted her spear into his torso before pulling it out. A griffin aimed its crossbow and fired a few bolts at Apple Bloom, hitting her a few times. Shrugging off the pain, she focused her attention on the griffin and aimed her spear at the griffin before throwing the weaponing, getting his head. She ran forward and retrieved her spear and refocused her attention back on the rest of the remaining creatures. . . . Flurry Heart kept flying ahead, trying to stay away from the creatures that chased after her. She kept her head forward, but she could hear the creatures jeering as they got closer. “C’mon, baby alicorn~! You’re needed for the god’s rebirth~!” a griffin taunted. “Leave me alone!” Flurry Heart tearfully shouted while she kept flying away. “We can’t do that, princess~! The Abyssal God is on his way to achieving our salvation and the only key ingredient needed to complete his resurrection… is you~.” a female dragon taunted. Scared of this, Flurry Heart continued to fly her wings off while the creatures continued to chase after her. . . . Meanwhile, Apple Bloom kept fighting off the creatures that ambushed her and there were only three left: one dragon, one griffin, and one manticore. Covered in bruises and scratches, the Apple pony appeared to be on her last legs. But she wasn’t ready to throw in the towel just yet. After going all this way with Flurry Heart, she was unwilling to abandon the little alicorn or break her heart by dying in vain. Readying her spear and steeling her nerves, she waited for the next attack. “You can still give us the alicorn, earth pony. Surrender her, and we promise to make it quick.” a griffin said in a malicious tone. “OVER MY DEAD BODY!!!” Apple Bloom screamed as she prepared herself. “So you would rather be devoured by us? So be it!” the griffin said before firing his crossbow at her. Apple Bloom dodged out of the way and lunged towards the griffin before stabbing him in the head. Pulling it out, the Apple pony faced the dragon and dodged some of its attacks before stabbing through his heart, causing the blood to gush out. Suddenly, the manticore charged Apple Bloom and swiped its right claws at her, knocking her into a tree. Then the manticore attempted to bite off Apple Bloom’s head. But using the pole of her spear, she was able to fend off the creature’s crushing bite before getting it snapped in half. But before she could get away, the manticore grabbed Apple Bloom with its claws and proceeded to slowly bite into her body, causing her to scream in pain. “You overgrown feline! BITE INTO THIS!!!!” Apple Bloom screamed before grabbing the half-broken spear. Using it, she leaned in closer and stabbed the manticore in its left eyeball, causing it to roar in agony. Getting up with the rest of her strength, Apple Bloom jumped on top and jammed the spear into the manticore’s head, stabbing its brain and killing it in the process. But before she could recover, she heard a cry from Flurry Heart. Apple Bloom, the earth pony heard from the distance. She could hear the princess getting closer, so she pulled her spear out of the manticore’s head as well as pulling out one of its large teeth before hiding behind one of the trees and waited for her return. “Apple Bloom…!!!” Flurry Heart shouted, starting to get closer. Ready for the next attack, Flurry Heart passed by and Apple Bloom sprung out of her hiding spot to ambush the two creatures chasing after the former. Using her broken spear, she stabbed the dragon right through its brain while holding onto the griffin. Holding onto the manticore’s tooth, she proceeded to stab the struggling griffin repeatedly. It continued on for several minutes as she screamed in primal rage while repeatedly stabbing the helpless griffin. Five minutes later, she kept stabbing away until her vision was coated in blood. She released the griffin from her grasp and took several breaths before she decided to get up, but she felt the pain course all over her body after her skirmish against the creatures, even going so far as to cough up blood. “Flurry Heart? Where are you? You can come out now!” Apple Bloom shouted, trying to find the princess. Just then, she heard breathing. Looking past the trees, she saw Flurry Heart in a traumatized state. Already feeling remorse, Apple Bloom got closer to Flurry Heart and said, “Don’t worry. They’re not gonna hurt you. I promise.” “Not that. You’re hurting, Apple Bloom.” Flurry Heart whimpered. “Oh, this? This is nothing to worry about. I’ve been-!” Just then, Flurry Heart lunged at Apple Bloom and tearfully shouted, “IT IS SOMETHING TO BE WORRIED ABOUT!!! I THOUGHT YOU WERE DEAD!!! I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I DID TO DESERVE YOUR ANGER, BUT SEEING YOU LIKE THIS JUST HURTS ME!!!” Hearing this hit Apple Bloom very hard. While she clearly intended to protect Flurry Heart, she was unaware of how much her wellbeing was affecting the princess and it just amplified her guilt even more. But deciding to help alleviate her worries a bit and cheer her up, Apple Bloom said, “Hey. I’m still here. So are you. If you hadn’t lured in that dragon and that griffin, we would’ve been toast. I think we made a good team back there.” “You really mean it…?” Flurry Heart asked, sniffling a bit. “Cross my heart and hope to die.” Apple Bloom said before coughing again. “You know that you shouldn’t say those things when you’re already like this.” Flurry Heart said, trying to make a joke. “Hey, it’s an adult thing. You’ll understand when you’re older. Your momma shouldn’t be too far ahead. And if we’re lucky, we could run into the trio when we get there.” Apple Bloom said, focusing back on the task. Flurry Heart nodded and proceeded to fly ahead with Apple Bloom following up close towards their destination. . . . Having defeated the malformed dragon, the trio ran all the way over to the source of the dark magic from the distance. They made it all the way over and they have found Cadance laying there, hardly breathing. “Your Highness!” Sunset shouted upon seeing her damaged state. They rush over and right beside her, they see Spike’s corpse in a much-ravaged and mutilated state. Starlight was aghast of the defilement laid on the deceased dragon. Taking her cloak off, she places it on Spike’s corpse and hugs it before laying it down gently. When she was finished, Starlight turned to Cadance along with the others as they desperately tried to keep her awake. Starlight said “You’re gonna be okay, Your Majesty. As soon as we-” “Where’s Flurry Heart…?” Cadence said in her shallow breath. The three looked at each other in bewilderment upon hearing that question. They had no idea how to respond, but then Sunset said, “Your daughter’s back over in Canterlot. She is safe.” “Thank you… when you see Flurry Heart… tell her… that I…” “Your Highness!? What’s the matter!?” Tempest desperately shouted, trying to wake her up. Fearing what could have happened to hear, Tempest laid her ear close to Cadance’s mouth. Luckily, she was breathing. But before Tempest could do anything, Sunset said, “I feel her magic.” “What?” Tempest asked. “Flurry Heart is out there.” Sunset answered in a horrified voice. Both of the hornless unicorns recoiled in terror upon hearing her answer. So instead of arguing, Sunset set up a barrier on the queen before deciding to split up and search for Flurry Heart before they can take Cadance back to Canterlot. So without a second thought, they split up and proceeded to find Flurry Heart before she could endanger herself or worse. > This Strange Power > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- A half-hour later, Flurry Heart and Apple Bloom found themselves in the middle of the forest, the latter in far worse shape. Flurry Heart wasted no time in giving chase.  "Flurry Heart, wait!" But Apple Bloom's yell was in vain as she was already gone. Flurry Heart started to run through the forest, pushing herself to find her mother. Despite the pain she was feeling, she knew that it meant nothing compared to how her mother felt. She couldn't afford to stop no matter what.  Several moments later, she arrived at a mountain, one she didn't recognize but she could tell she was getting close. She flew up but as she did, one of the creatures attacked her. She evaded the attack but it clipped her wing, making flying all the more impossible. After rushing up the mountain, she found one of the creatures who had captured her mother. At that moment, she spotted something or rather, someone whom she didn't recognize. The unknown individual quickly killed the creature and grabbed Cadance. Before they could take a step further, Flurry Heart rushed over to the individual and yelled,  "Let her go!" The individual didn't answer which Flurry Heart, in tears yelled, "I said, let her go!" The individual did just that. However, as it dropped her mother, it quickly attacked Flurry Heart, grabbing her by the neck. The individual smirked as it did to which Flurry Heart looked at it and was scared for her life.  "If you're looking for somepony, I'll take her place. But leave my mother out of this!" “What makes you believe I'm after her? Foolish mare, it's not her I'm after… it's you." It tightened its grip as it continued. "You see, you have something very important to us. Normally, I would've just killed you and brought it back to me. However, since it has merged into you, that's no longer an option. After all, you'll be the one who will kill the dark one, the Shadow King." Flurry Heart was still struggling to get free as it spoke. Her only concern at that moment was getting her mother to safety, no matter the risk. "Whoever that is, I promise I'll leave him alone!" She yelled.  "Leave him alone?" It asked as it almost broke into a fit of laughter. "You misunderstand me, I want your help to kill him. If we join forces, we can free this world from his iron grip. And you will finish what your kind started," it said as it kept it's eyes on her.  "Please… just leave us alone…" she begged, struggling to speak.  "Unfortunately for you, that's not something you get to decide." It used it's magic to summon what appeared to be another form of the Ooze. "I'd like for you to take this gift. It's not much but it'll… making choosing much easier." As the Ooze in question started to enter her mind, she started to scream, unable to do anything or fight back. "It'll all be over soon… no more worries… no more thoughts… only fear and destruction." Her mind was slowly becoming blank and her own thoughts almost erased. However, there was one thing she continued to think about: her friend and family. "Apple Bloom… Mom… I… I have to…!" At that moment, she felt a surge of power flow though her. She let go of her fears and at that moment, an aura appeared around her. The individual noticed this and was struck with fear. After a moment, she realised an explosive spell, destroying the Ooze and sending the individual flying back.  She slowly walked towards it and only one thought appeared at that moment.  "Kill it. Make it pay."  The energy around her started to swell up once more. The individual begged for its life, pleading as it said, "Wait, stop!" "End it before it's too late." "Please, you're making a mistake!" "It hurt your friend, your family. Make it pay!!!" The energy was about to be released and the individual looked away, realizing it's life was about to end. However, before she attacked, one memory popped up.  "Spike lost himself because he had no pony to turn to… and I don't want you to end up like he did. So please, never let your emotions control your actions." "I'm sorry… for what I said earlier. I shouldn't have lashed at you like that. I guess I'm just not used to knowing somepony who can stay happy during all this. If I may make a small request… don't make the same mistake I did." "You're right… Apple Bloom, Auntie…" The aura around her slowly dissolved. She closed her eyes and her mind spoke to her.  "You're making a mistake, Flurry Heart." She turned her attention to it. "Leave. And don't ever come near my friend or my family again. Understood?" She said in a firm and cold tone.  It only nodded and ran off, disappearing shortly after. The energy she had from earlier had vanished completely and she collapsed. She was barely able to move but still rushed over to her mother who was still unconscious. She picked her up and walked down the mountain, each step hurting more than the last. After what appeared to be forever, Apple Bloom and Tempest spotted her.  "Flurry Heart!" They both yelled.  They rushed over to her and helped her up. They could tell she went through alot and decided for the time being to not say anything and get back home. But before they could leave, Flurry Heart ran over to her mother’s side. “Mommy! Wake up! It’s over! We can go home now!” Flurry Heart said in a happy tone.   But Cadance didn’t wake up. Flurry Heart rocked her body to make her wake up, but she didn’t budge. The young princess started to get scared and rocked her body even more as she felt her eyes water up. “Mommy! Please! Wake up! I promise that I’ll be a good girl when I get back! I promise that I will never leave the castle! I promise that I won’t make any more friends! Just please WAKE UP!!!” Flurry Heart shouted before bawling over Cadance’s body. Starlight went over and Flurry Heart away in a hug as Sunset and Tempest went over to check Cadance’s pulse. They could hear breathing, but Cadance didn’t move a muscle. Scared after figuring out what has happened, Tempest hoisted Cadance on her back and shouted, “Let’s go!” Immediately, the group proceeded to run back to Canterlot with Cadance’s body while trying to wrap their minds on what had happened back in Everfree Forest. > Doctor Report > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Having ran all the way back to the castle, Tempest called for the guards to bring a stretcher for Cadance. Immediately, the medical team came out of the door and put the stretcher down before hoisting the queen on there. They ran into the infirmary and immediately locked the doors, leaving Flurry Heart, Apple Bloom. Starlight, Sunset, and Tempest outside. Outside, they waited for a good half-hour until the doors finally opened. “Princess…?” the doctor said in a nervous tone. “Yes, doctor?” Flurry Heart responded, already starting to feel worried. “I need to speak with your caretakers for a bit. Would you mind waiting over in that corner over there?” the doctor said, pointing towards the playing area. “But what about mommy? And daddy. Are they okay?” Flurry Heart asked, trying to get answers. “Don’t worry, Your Highness. We will call you over when we’re done.” the doctor said, doing what he can to keep Flurry Heart from knowing the truth. “C’mon, Your Highness. Why don’t we play with some of those toys over there?” Apple Bloom suggested. “Okay…” Flurry Heart said, reluctantly going on with the Apple pony’s suggestion. After watching them walk away into a fair distance, the doctor brung the trio closer to him and said, “We were able to stabilize the Queen, but the damage done to her is far from reparable. Nothing that years of tending to the dying soldiers back in the Abyssal Invasion won’t fix.” “What do you mean?” Tempest asked. “The Queen is in a coma. We did all we could to wake her up, but she won’t move a muscle.”  “What…? Do you know when she’ll come back? She is the Queen of New Equestria and she’s the princess’s mother. We can’t just throw all the responsibility on her.” Sunset said. “Judging by the damage done to her, she’ll most likely remain like this for many moons to come. If we’re lucky, it’ll be 2-3 decades until she can wake up.” the doctor said in a defeated tone. “2-3 decades?! The princess will have been a grown mare by the time she has woken up! We can’t keep this deadline from her!” Starlight whispered in a furious tone. “I have the same grievances as much as the three of you do. But only the Queen can recover. As of right now, her recovery is out of my hooves and all we can do is monitor the Queen until she can make a full recovery. But as for the Captain, he’s resting and it’ll be a while until he can recover, but he is okay. Visiting hours will be permitted when he has awakened.” the doctor said. The unicorns were relieved to hear that Shining Armor will make it, but they were clearly distressed when they just learned that Cadance won’t be back until she has recovered from her coma. In all likelihood to their knowledge, coma recoveries were slim to none and it only served to amplify the guilt they had felt for arriving too late to stop Cozy Glow from draining the Queen’s magic, let alone whatever Ooze was left inside Spike’s body. And to add insult to injury, the sinister young pegasus was still out there and they had no idea where she ran off to after the ceremony. But deciding to table that discussion for now, the trio decided to walk over to Flurry Heart and Apple Bloom. “Hey. How are you enjoying the toy?” Tempest asked, trying to ease her way into the discussion. “They’re okay. Nothing really to brag over though.” Flurry Heart said, looking at the half-worn teddy bear in her hooves. “I’m sure he is cute the way that he is.” Starlight said, admiring the rustic charm on the teddy bear. “Listen. We just spoke to the doctor and we have news about your mommy and daddy.” Sunset said, trying to slowly break the news to the young alicorn princess. “Are they going to be okay…?” Flurry Heart asked, already feeling scared. The trio looked at each other, equally scared as well before facing Flurry Heart. Then Sunset says, “They’re going to be okay. We just learned that your daddy is feeling better, but he is asleep right now and we won’t be allowed to see him until visiting hours are permitted.” “But what about mommy? Is she okay?” Flurry Heart asked once more. “She is. But it’s gonna be quite some time before your mother can wake up.” the doctor said while trying to avoid spilling the secret. “What…?” Flurry Heart asked, feeling her stomach sink. “Well, we’re not sure when she will wake up. But you can rest assured that she will receive the best care that we have to offer. All we need-.” the doctor said before stopping himself. Flurry Heart started to feel the tears come out of her eyeballs. Seeing this, the doctor stammered and said, “Y-You can still visit her. But… she’s…” the doctor said, beginning to lose his wording. Having heard enough, Flurry Heart immediately ran away from the lobby with tears in her eyes. It didn’t take a grown-up to tell her what was happening to her mother. She could already see it on the doctor’s face when he was slowly telling her that she would be in a coma. This trauma that she felt within her gut was too much for her to describe. Even as the others called out Flurry Heart’s name, she ignored them and kept running. That is, until she tripped on a set of stairs, causing her to accidentally hit her nose. By the time she tries getting up, the grown-ups have already caught up with Flurry Heart. “Are you okay…?” Tempest asked as she picked up Flurry Heart and inspected her nose. But upon taking a closer look at the princess, she was already bawling her eyes out. The grown-ups were devastated by her saddened state and no idea what to do. Other than to comfort her as Flurry Heart cried. “Why…? Why won’t she wake up…?” Flurry Heart blubbered as she hugged Tempest. Tempest wanted to tell Flurry Heart the truth about Cozy Glow, but the looks she received from the others told her that now wasn’t the right time to tell the heartbroken princess. “I shouldn’t have left the castle. If I had just listened to you and ignored Cozy Glow… none of this would have happened. She hates me…” Flurry Heart blubbered once more. “No…” Tempest said as she comforted Flurry Heart. “She hates me. She hates me, Aunty Tempest. I wasn’t a good girl to my mommy and daddy.” Flurry Heart said as she cried. Before Tempest could say anything else, a voice said, “It’s not true…” Flurry Heart raised her head out of Tempest’s chest and saw that it was none other than Shining Armor. He was riding a wheelchair and he has an IV cable linked to his left arm. Being wheeled over to her by Cloak, he said, “You mean the entire world to us. And she never hated you.” “Daddy…” Flurry Heart said upon seeing Shining Armor in a wheelchair. “Sweetie…” Shining Armor replied, clearly beginning to have a breakdown as well. Flurry Heart walked over and jumped into her father’s lap before crying some more. Embracing his daughter while no longer feeling himself hold back the tears, Shining Armor said, “I’m sorry… for being such… a terrible father.” “Daddy…” Flurry Heart bawled as she hugged him. The others looked on in sadness as they took in the failure of saving Cadance from the ceremony held by Cozy Glow before secretly vowing to themselves that they wouldn’t rest until they found her and made her revive Cadance from her coma. . . . Meanwhile in the cave, all the cult members were gathered with Cozy Glow holding onto the fully-restored Malachite Crystal Heart that was shattered by Starlight ten moons ago. Looking at the heart with sinister glee, she could imagine all the destruction she would unleash on New Equestria until she was made Queen. After basking in her grandiose fantasies, she turns to Hans and says, “It is time…” On that note, Hans raised his magic staff and started waving it in the air. As soon as it started glowing, everybody began chanting a dark spell in ceremonial fashion as she held onto the crystal while flying over to the mummified corpse. “That poor, stupid Flurry Heart will be for a surprise when she meets you~…” Cozy Glow said in sadistic pleasure as she inserted the heart into his chest. The moment it got inserted, tentacles sprouted out of his body and it grabbed everyone, minus Cozy Glow. But instead of screaming in terror, the creatures embraced their demises as they were absorbed into the goat’s body. And when it was finished, everything became silent as the lights went out. Just as Cozy Glow got a closer look, she heard a crunching sound. She saw the head of the goat moved in a broken manner with snapping noises before facing the evil pegasus with red glowing eyes.
